Don't Tread on Me, God Damn, Let's Go! - The Harlem Hellfighters, 2021, cottons, silk, wool, and velvet, 109 1⁄2 × 156 in., Smithsonian American Art Museum, Artist: Bisa Butler
In this monumental quilt, Bisa Butler brings to life the history and emotions of nine members of the 369th Infantry Regiment known as the Harlem Hellfighters, a segregated unit of the American Expeditionary Force in World War I. Drawing from the wellsprings of African American quilting traditions and the Kool-Aid colors of the Black Power art movement, Butler pieced together layers of dazzling textiles to connect this present moment to the past.
“I look to their example to see for myself that the triumphs we experience today will outlast tyrants and that nothing can ever erase them—not time, not death. These protectors of our nation fought and put their very bodies and their lives on the line. My work is to continue to lift them up in history so they can be seen in public spaces, where their heroic sacrifices become part of the American quest to fight against oppression and for freedom.” —Bisa Butlerharlem hellfighters

High priority for me rn to figure out something I can add to my bags to hold notions, because crochet hooks and knitting needles are not safely held by anything as far as I can tell... constantly keeping an ear out for the clatter of a tool falling out of the bag

Any people with sheep in the central florida area willing to sell wool to me?
I'm willing to clean and process it myself - I want to try making my own wool batting for quilts. But I can't have the damn cute things in my back yard ( not enough space, HOA would also say no).
If you also know cheaper ways to get 100% wool for quilt batting let me know too ( that stuff is expensive); but yeah I'm happy to throw money at local people who can give wool.
Is there like a network or forum I can join of sheep farmers willing to sell wool? Come on guys, we gotta keep the sheep people in business!!!

That post about using cotton thread for garment making drives me up the wall. Cotton thread fucking sucks. It’s not durable at all for every day clothing use. The only projects that you should be using cotton thread for 100% of the time is for things that are going to be exposed to high heat (ex. microwave cozies and pot holders) because it’s crucial that you use something that won’t melt. If you’re making clothes or costumes just use polyester. It’s fine. You’ll be fine.

I would love to work with wool batting again. Buuuuut would batting that can go through the washer and dryer without shrinking or being damaged is very expensive.
One of my goals this year is to get a fill sized ironing mat and cover for my ironing board, not just one of the smaller mats. It's gonna be pricey, around $100, but it will be so worth it.
