High priority for me rn to figure out something I can add to my bags to hold notions, because crochet hooks and knitting needles are not safely held by anything as far as I can tell... constantly keeping an ear out for the clatter of a tool falling out of the bag
#almost wondering if a small thin quilted pouch might work#i know from experience that you cant rely on a single layer of fabric and i bet 2 layers isnt much better#but 2 layers plus wool... maybe

Any people with sheep in the central florida area willing to sell wool to me?
I'm willing to clean and process it myself - I want to try making my own wool batting for quilts. But I can't have the damn cute things in my back yard ( not enough space, HOA would also say no).
If you also know cheaper ways to get 100% wool for quilt batting let me know too ( that stuff is expensive); but yeah I'm happy to throw money at local people who can give wool.
Is there like a network or forum I can join of sheep farmers willing to sell wool? Come on guys, we gotta keep the sheep people in business!!!

That post about using cotton thread for garment making drives me up the wall. Cotton thread fucking sucks. It’s not durable at all for every day clothing use. The only projects that you should be using cotton thread for 100% of the time is for things that are going to be exposed to high heat (ex. microwave cozies and pot holders) because it’s crucial that you use something that won’t melt. If you’re making clothes or costumes just use polyester. It’s fine. You’ll be fine.
#by all means go forth and make clothes using cotton and linen and wool for fabric!#just don’t be surprised when seams start popping because you were too good for polyester thread!#I think cotton thread also has uses in quilting but that’s an entirely separate set of skills I do not have

stepping away from this bc of a fuckoff headache. very rough idea for river drake armor sans the gnarly bladed helmet that would act as primary weapon and maybe some bladed front feet gauntlets
#the cape looking thing would be a thick quilted wool type thing a la gambesons. retains a shitload of water which helps keep their skin--#--from drying out but Also weighs them down. armored combat more so meant for short duels ending on first blood basis typically. a big--#--element being attempting to win b4 you tire out. realizing now that metal would rust so maybe they carve wood armor or smth idkkkkkk im--#--going to lie down now to stop staring at this annoying thing

I would love to work with wool batting again. Buuuuut would batting that can go through the washer and dryer without shrinking or being damaged is very expensive.
One of my goals this year is to get a fill sized ironing mat and cover for my ironing board, not just one of the smaller mats. It's gonna be pricey, around $100, but it will be so worth it.

So…any plans for the waste fiber? I've just started Getting into combing wool myself and while I would love to someday have garden access I currently live in a top floor apt so composting is immediately out. I am currently using it as stuffing but I only really need or want one pillow maybe 2. I've also thought about wet felting and using that as batting for a quilt but idk if or when I'll have enough time (or wool) to make a quilt. (Because of course I have to quilt by hand! Wouldnt dream of doing it any other way....)
Personally, I process it on hand cards and then either spin the resulting rolags into a textured yarn, or else then put them on the blending board. You can most likely (depending on your particular combing waste) just fluff it up by hand and spin it as is.
Wet felting it into quilt batting is a super cool idea, I really love that. I wonder if the short + tangled combo of combing waste might cause some difficulties, but I'd imagine most breeds would still felt ok !
Tbh I always recommend just saving your waste fiber (sorted by project or breed or whatever, if you can) and waiting till you've got a lot of it or inspiration strikes.
#mood about having to quilt by hand#i want to hand sew a quilt so bad !!! im just way too busy and i know it would take a very. very long time#maybe after i finish my handspun scrap yarn blanket lol#good luck with your combing !#hand comb#wool prep#wool processing#anonyme
