Whatever They Told You About Dating Is Dead Wrong...And Here's Why
The rich dating web site is designed to match financially rich folks and their admirers. I like many differing kinds of individuals. So if this sounds like one thing you need to include your self in, then get online right now! They get alongside very well. For apparent reasons, this service is just not effectively fitted to meeting native women from your country. Better of all, our pleasant and extremely-rated customer service group are there for you 7 days a week, do you have to need any assist or recommendation along the way in which. Here’s what you might want to know. Please tell us if you discover any information about SSSniperWolf that is outdated. You could discover all of it to be a bit random, but belief us, this is going to inform us the name of the man who needs to be with you, in your entirety, for ever and ever. If you do not have emotions for this particular person, chances are you'll find that he is somewhat bizarre, however in case you do have emotions for this particular person, by the point you finish taking this quiz, you need to already be dialing his number to see if he is available for a date.
The actual fact you're noticing you might be preparing for relationships again means you are prone to already be sending those signals out individuals around you - you may have to נערות ליווי בחיפהsharpen you powers of commentary to see who's responding. Also, people do want food, and a dinner date is a superb technique to satisfy that want. Listed below are the foundations you could comply with not to get scammed. Usually, we just get the opposite individual a deal with to apologize. I've stored a lot of my past from this particular person. It was a number of fun, and we did not get too uninterested in each other. Tell us how you view the dating sport at all its stages, and we'll guess firstly the place you might be in it, and secondly, we'll get a fairly good idea of how you feel about that. Thus, this group of people can simply get an excellent company, but they actually hard to get an ideal soul mate. With so many great facets to Seattle, it can be laborious to remember that Seattle is a major city, and with every major city comes challenges. If she comes back, high quality. The connection that I've discovered continues to be new but we're very blissful.
Then, we'll know if you have been single long enough so that you can neglect dating etiquette or if you are still trying to neglect your ex. However, if you already know exactly what you are in search of, then you can go straight to the search, which comprises almost each doable function you would need to see in your potential hookup associate. Relationships might be beautiful and rewarding benefits in our lives, or they is usually a supply of stress and discomfort. No, folks can generate profits without one. E-mails from Nigeria requesting your banking data or money -- the Nigerian Bank Advance Fee Fraud money scheme -- usually are not legit. I'd tell them they are being clingy. If you want to be in a position where you'll be able to critically marvel how to tell if a youthful lady is concerned about you, you have got to point out some curiosity in her practices and beliefs. I normally video chat with them every evening to tell them about my day.
Make your bed, pick your clothes up off the floor, put away your sneakers and socks - this is all actually primary stuff,' Ms Ward mentioned in the video. Yes, but they make jokes. Yes, we are good at owning as much as our errors. Yes, they usually love me. Someone out there may be in love with you, and he has a reputation. The biggest shortcoming is a lot of useful info is out of date and most members no footage. So earlier than you go on a date along with your ideal "kind" of man, let's discover out what he seems like! We exit just a few occasions a month. We go out once a month. Answer these questions, and work out who actually loves you. Dating is the place two people who are attracted to each other spend time collectively to see in the event that they also can stand to be round one another more often than not, if that is successful they develop a relationship, though generally a relationship develops anyways if the people can't discover anyone else to date them, or are very lonely or one person is only drawn to the other and pretends to be in love with the second unfortunate one that has the misunderstanding that they have discovered love.

#YemziGirl Feature 50 (April) - Barbara - Nanny from Brazii
Hey Barbara, lets get straight into it…does being a nanny make you want kids more or less?
Hello Elizabeth !!! First of all thank you for getting in touch with me and for the invite I really appreciate it. Well I helped looking after my cousins and neighbours kids so when I came to London I first started working as a cleaner then slowly I was getting into the nanny life and as long as I remember I always loved it. I always say when I go on interviews that some people do this job because of the money and some other people do because they love being nannies and love what they do and I am one of them, being a nanny it isn’t an easy job as you need to balance the kids, parents and your needs and also you need to always keep reminding yourself that they aren’t your kids and you must do what the parents wants even though sometimes you won’t agree with them. I remember this family that I worked once that was very challenging that got me so stressed to the point that the thought of not wanting kids was being on my mind constantly and people that knows me knows that there isn’t nothing else in this world that I want more than kids so I had to put myself first and move on because I was getting so stressed by kids that are not even mine so when I have mine I wouldn’t be patient and this is not how I want to be when I have my own kids.
Why did you leave Brazil for London and what do you miss the most?
I left Brazil on 2012 when I was just 23 years old and was the first time I was living way from my family and in a foreign country. I came because a good friend of mine came with her girlfriend and a few months later she invited me to come and I decided to as I wasn’t in a good place back then as I was dealing with depression (only had the knowledge that it was depression years later) so I took some time off from drama university to come to London and have been here ever since. I love London and I feel like home here more than Brazil, I know I came from a beautiful country with beautiful people like me rsrsrs but life in Brazil it isn’t that beautiful like most people see when they watch tv or go on holidays specially now with that guy on the presidency. I really miss the weather of course but I am not complaining about UK weather no no no I am grateful with either because in my perception we must be grateful for everything we have in our lives but I was born there and that weather is part of my culture so I do miss playing outside with my friends as kids or going to a bar as adults OMG!!! If I could only share the images I have in my head with you all would be amazing but besides the weather I miss my family and friends the most but I have made my own family and friends here and where I live Willesden Green I can get all the Brazilian food I want to so I am ok with that rsrsrs.
Your bared all on BBC's Naked Truth:Tattoos so beautifully, how was that experience?
The experience on The Naked Truth was amazing and of course being naked in front of camera and people I’ve never met wasn’t that easy but the program’s idea of showing to people what tattoos means to us was what that made me want to be part of it. At the time we filmed it I didn’t have my full arm and leg inked and I’ve seen and heard people saying and looking weirdly at me because of my tattoos but imagine now that I have way more tattoos...once I had a nanny job position turned down because my tattoos would influence the kids rsrs crazy huh!? I can’t believe that there are people that still think like that they are more worried about my tattoos than how I am going to treat their kids. I am really happy and blessed with the family I am now and I can say this I’ve had a really hard year before I met them with three different families and I’ve been putting out to the universe to bring a good family that would see me for who I am and forget the stereotypes and I finally found them and I remember on my interview I asked the mum if she had any problem with tattoos and I showed her my arms and I was really worried about her reaction and me and the little girl was love on the first sight and her mum was like “no I also have one so no problem I am more worried how you are going to look after her than about your tattoos” I was in shock and as I am writing this now I have tears in my eyes because maybe for some people this was nothing but for me was her way of saying I don’t judge you by your look. The world it is getting better as much as we think that it is not but it is look at us black people everyday we are making our voices to be hear more and more...yes we have a long way to but hey lets celebrate instead of complain right? I hope one day people understand that tattoo is a form or art and expression.
As an aspiring plus size model which brand would you love to work with and why?
As long as I remember I’ve been overweight and we know how society treats us plus sizes women  and men so until my 25 years old I thought that being “fat” was bad and no one would love me for who and how I was and that feeling made me doubt myself all the time but then I decided to lose weight and I lost 50kg in a year I went from 126kg to 78kg and you are must be thinking WOW she was so happy right? No! I wasn’t. I was happy from the outside because I never thought that I could lose weight on my own without surgery or pills but I was so unhappy inside because I was treating myself so badly and that made me feel so unhappy and when I got stuck and couldn’t lose more I started gaining again and today I am back to my weight and you are must be thinking WOW she must be sad now right? No! I AM NOT and you know why? Because I had to learn how to LOVE MYSELF I thought that losing weight would make me happy and make people love me because that was what the tv and people used to say to me all the time and I saw that it wasn’t true. Today I learned that the “love yourself “  means literally love yourself no matter how you are, you can be slim or plus or too tall or too short be black or white or be Japanese or African love yourself means be grateful and proud of the life body,s kin that you have but doesn’t mean that you don’t need to look after your health for example today I want to lose weight because I want to be healthy to look after my kids when I have them not to make people to love me.
So once I started my journey on loving myself I started to have my own plus size inspirations so I thought about modelling so I’ve done one photoshoot for a friend and I loved it so I went and did a workshop for plus size model and I met so many wonderful and beautiful plus sizes women but ever since I haven’t done anything but soon I will be back to it. I always buy clothes from this brand called grassfield it is an online store that I found on instagram they are two sister if I am not wrong from Nigeria and all they clothes are handmade and believe me they are amazing and they have from size 8 to 24 so I would love to model for them plus just know that I am helping my black sis from there I am happy to keep buying from them.
What should designers who are wanting to cater to larger women pay attempting to?
Well I have large breast so I still think they should be paying more attention to that because sometimes you can find plus size clothes that with fit you everywhere but not on breast area and it is só frustrating and I know all my big breasted sis out there will agree with me rsrs.
Beauty products your afro can’t survive without?
OMG!!! One of my favourite subjects rsrs my friends always make fun of me saying that I go crazy if I don’t deep condition my hair at least 3x a week and I look after it like a babe and it isn’t completely true but I do deep conditioning it 1x when I am working and 3x a week when I am on holiday and as I do the low poo method so I don’t use any products on my hair only products that are allowed so I get it from Brazil as we have a huge range of products but when I cannot get it from there I get from Shea Moisture or Cantu they are not cheap comparing to the normal brands but for girls like me that are always dying their hair it’s worth it.
What does style mean to you?
Style for me means WEAR WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE AND BEAUTIFUL. At least that how I am to be honest, as I mentioned before I have my inspirations but I have my own style that for some people it isn’t cool but it’s fine beca I don’t choose my outfit to please anybody but me and I love before going out I plan the whole outfit in my mind and when I put it on I look in the mirror and I say GIRL!!! You are looking Gorgeous OMG rsrs and I am telling you I go out in the mood and no one will change it. I see sometimes people looking at me thinking “her style is cool or I didn’t like it” but the most important thing is I am feeling myself so F*%# the world rsrs.
Plain or printed?
Both depends on the occasion
Favourite quote?
Treat yourself with love and respect, and you will attract people who show you love and respect in other words FIRST LOVE YOURSELF
What piece of Yemzi do you love or have your eye on and why?
Girl I am getting that Yemzi identity pin!
Thanks so much @barbraprata! <3

Know Everything About Mens and Womens African Clothing
An African continent is a beautiful place with an outstanding array of animals, people, and places. People have started wearing clothes soon after the first homo-sapiens evolved near about 180,000 years ago (mainly due to an 'Ice Age' which has affected the globe at that time and developed a need to cover themselves).
The first early clothes were made of animal skin, and took the form of leather coverings and furs as well as jewelry adornments created out of seashells, feathers, and ostrich shell pieces. But African dresses online are rich in designs and color and usually made of the high-end material.
What Material is Used for Traditional African Clothing?
Natural Mens and Womens African Clothing were made of treated animal furs, feathers, hides, skin, and tree barks. The clothes made of bark are used rarely for everyday wear, but few societies still use them for ceremonial purposes. Most of the African societies now weave clothes from the locally grown cotton.
In the Northern part, ladies also spin and weave camel and sheep wool. Other sources of fiber include flax and jute in West Africa and Madagascar, raffia palm in Central and Western Africa, silk in Nigeria, East Africa, and Madagascar. All of these fibers are dyed using mineral and vegetable dyes for clothing.
What are the Common Dyeing Methods?
The African weavers generate a broad variety of colored and patterned fabric; they also weave pain clothes. These clothes are either used for everyday wear or used for special purposes. The common dyeing techniques in Africa are ‘resist dye’ and ‘tie and dye.’ In a tie and die, the designs are first tied and stitched into cloth via raffia or cotton threads.
On the other hand, in resist die, the dyer makes a drawing on cloth via impermeable substance like a paste of cassava or candle wax. After that, they soak it into a solution made of vegetable dyes. For the different hues, the extracts from redwood, coal buts, camwood trees, etc. are used. Also, the motifs and designs for decorating fabric are related to a specific animal, event, proverb, event, etc. Others include Roman numeral and letters and line drawings of modern objects (like car, bicycle).
Types of African Clothing:
Below are the clothing types found in Africa:

What Kind of Clothes Do Africans Wear in Old Times?
The kind of clothing African wears differs by region. Diverse tribes throughout the continent pride on their national dress which they use it for special occasions. Natural mens African Clothing includes an apron or loincloth. It means that men just wrap a bark cloth over a belt and passed between the legs and ladies usually wraps around their breasts or waists. Raffia was used to sew together the separate pieces of bark cloth and also for grass skirts.
What Does Modern African Fashion Include?
With time, African fashion has been blended with European styles to make it suitable for daily attire. The modern outfits could be worn quickly to parties, work or even for a casual event. This includes pencil dresses, African print skirts, jumpsuits, trousers, playsuits, etc. You can visit the online stores to buy African dresses for men and women.

Worldwide Feminism
On a warm summer Saturday, a white woman stands in a crowd of women, in the city streets of New York, chanting “equal pay! equal pay! equal pay!” Meeting on this Saturday because most of the women had work Monday to Friday and wanted to spend Sunday resting or practicing the religion of their choice. Taking pictures and selfies at the rally with the other women, making friends, and going home afterwards to post them, talk about their day with family, or even go out with friends. This is what western feminism looks like. 5,371 miles across the world in in Nigeria, a black woman stands on the corner of the street, when a car pulls up, she gets in, she sells herself to make money because women aren’t allowed the jobs that the men have such as police officer, banker, or even janitor. When she gets home that night, she’s so tired that she doesn’t clean the house and make dinner for her husband or kids, when her husband gets home, he hits her and yells at her for not doing her duties, she cannot seek help because women are viewed as property in her country and the police force are completely men and will side with her husband. She signs petitions that night online that could help women in her country not be treated as property or abused. This is what feminism in Africa looks like. While all forms of feminism are important and have an immense impact, it’s important for white western feminists to know that they cannot possibly represent all women. Women in other countries like Nigeria, India, or Saudi Arabia could not even imagine having all the things that 21st century western feminists already have. My mom joined the air force at the age of 18 instead of going to college, during her four years of service she was sent to many places, one of which being Saudi Arabia, occasionally there she would drive tanks on the air force base, or even drive to the store off base if she needed anything. While driving to the store by herself one day in uniform, just to get some food and snacks for that week that she couldn’t get on base, a man saw her leaving in the store parking lot and started to throw stones at her as she was by herself without a man, did not have her hair or body covered in the correct way as the kingdom of Saudi Arabia required all Muslim women to have their hair covered and all women to wear a full body garment, and was driving herself which women in Saudi Arabia were not allowed to do. She was shocked and even told me that story multiple times when I was growing up to try to explain to me how women are not treated as equals, and how sexism is integrated into our society. Yes, I know, what a fun lesson for a kid to learn.
Throughout the course of this class, we have covered many topics, with feminism being our first and most continuous topic. Feminism is by definition “the advocacy of women's rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes.” as google dictionary puts it, and each area in the world feminists focus on different struggles. I have always considered myself to be a feminist and found it important to advocate for women’s rights to choose, have equal pay, and be treated as equals inside and outside the workplace, but during this course when we talked about transnational feminism, I felt as if a third eye had opened, or a new lens to look through had been placed before me. Although I had always considered myself a feminist and thought I had been fighting for women’s rights, what I as a woman in America have is what women in other countries couldn’t even imagine or dream about having, such as a driver’s license, the ability to go to school, own property, or even have a job. It’s important for western feminists to acknowledge what they have that other women in other countries may not have and continue to fight for them, as well as fight for themselves. It’s important as a feminist in America to educate yourself on the cultures behind women across the globe, instead of viewing it through their single lens and decide they are being oppressed. An article by Erica West called Examining White Western Feminism explains it best, “More recently, we have seen Western groups positioning other cultures as inherently flawed in contemporary times with the French feminist group, FEMEN. The group’s main tactic is to protest shirtless with phrases such as “I AM FREE” written on their chest and stomach. Made up of almost exclusively thin, White, able bodied women, these protests are in no way radical, but the larger problem is their insular focus on Islam and Muslim women. One of the main focuses of FEMEN’s activism is to ‘save’ Muslim women from the oppressions of Islam. The group calls for an end to all dictatorial regimes, “first of all, theocratic Islamic states practicing Sharia law and other forms of Sadism regarding women.” They are deciding on behalf of Muslim women what the problem is and how it should be remedied. Like Hillary Clinton, they claim to have the solution to oppression, and the solution is to act just like them. They assert that by running topless through the street or wearing flower crowns, these women can achieve true liberation. FEMEN and White feminists like them enact discursive violence by speaking for these women rather than listening to them.” I really liked this article because it talks about how important it is for western women to stop and think about the culture behind a woman before calling her oppressed. While keeping in mind to think about the culture behind a woman it’s also important to not write off oppression as culture or religiousness, as Lughod said in Do Muslim Women Really Need Saving “it is common popular knowledge that the ultimate sign of oppression of afghan women under the Taliban-and-the terrorists is that they were forced to wear the burqa. Liberals sometimes confess their surprised that even though Afghanistan has been liberated from the Taliban, women do not seem to be throwing off their burqas. Someone who has worked in Muslim religions must ask why this is so surprising. Did we expect that once ‘free’ from the Taliban that they would go ‘back’ to belly shirts and blue leans, or dust off their Chanel suits? We need to be more sensible about the clothing of ‘women of cover’, and so there is perhaps a need to make some basic points about failing” this quote really helps to drive home the countering issue of keeping in mind a woman’s culture before calling her oppressed or trying to “fix” her. Although these women had been liberated, they did not magically throw off their burqas because it was part of their culture to wear the burqa. There’s a fine line that western family should not cross in terms of helping women in Third World countries, I would consider it more of a balancing act, trying to help those women that are oppressed, without assuming that all women that wear hijabs or burqas are being oppressed, and being insensitive to their culture.
My biggest take away from this class, that I feel I can continue to educate to others, and use myself on a day-to-day basis, is how to be a transnational feminist instead of a white western feminist. It’s hard as a western feminist to not get caught up in only your own issues, or only in the issues that you see other women face around you day to today. Through educating yourself and staying up to date on women’s issues in other countries, anyone could transform themselves from a “white western feminist” to a transnational feminist, thus creating a better worldwide community of understanding and support for all women, regardless of culture, education, or location. The best way to do this is to stay educated, never assume how women and other countries feel, or any women in general, always ask and listen before forming an opinion of your own. Be an advocate for not only yourself, but for other women they cannot help themselves, or that may not already have access to help. Most importantly as a feminist, never stop fighting for global equality between men and women.

Biggest fashion trends reflect a world in crisis
Written by Fiona Sinclair Scott, CNN
To look back at the year in fashion is to look back at a year of crisis. In the first few months of 2020, as the severity and scale of the coronavirus pandemic became clear, businesses around the world faced incomparable challenges posed by the largest global public health crisis in generations. The fashion industry was not immune.
Making clothes became extremely difficult, and many of us — forced to stay at home amid job insecurity and health concerns — lost our appetite for buying them.
A recent report by consulting firm McKinsey and The Business of Fashion showed that fashion sales in China dropped significantly at the beginning of the year, while in Europe and the US they fell off a cliff edge in March. The same report predicted that fashion companies’ year-on-year profits will decline by approximately 90 percent for 2020, following a 4% rise the year before.
But the pandemic wasn’t the only crisis the industry faced. While the fashion world was already reckoning with uncomfortable truths about its impact and practices — from its role in the climate crisis and poor working conditions for garment factory workers, to its failure to create inclusive, diverse workplaces — the events of 2020 have only served to further highlight these problems.
Suddenly, fashion had to find its place in a world ill-at-ease with the ideas of fantasy, frivolity and indulgence that it has long depended on.

For Shefalee Vasudev, founding editor of India’s Voice of Fashion magazine, this year has heralded “the great unmasking” of fashion. “The unseen other side of what we bring back home as a beautiful garment or product was revealed,” she wrote via email from Delhi. “Migrants walking back to their homes in villages, disowned as they were by the cities and their employers, was among the most poignant images that surfaced from India.”
Vasudev, who authored “Powder Room: The Untold Story of Indian Fashion,” pointed to “poorly paid laborers, unequal profits and (lack of) copyright credits to artisans,” as some of the most pressing issues laid bare by the pandemic in India. Meanwhile in the United States, and then countries around the world, the resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement put the issue of systemic racism firmly on the industry’s agenda. Brands awkwardly grappled with how to respond. Many got it wrong and were quickly called out for making token gestures.

“Plain and simple, I don’t think there is the intention behind (online gestures) to make long-lasting, sustainable change,” said Teen Vogue editor-in-chief, Lindsay Peoples Wagner, in an email to CNN in June. “Everyone can hop onto the BLM movement right now on social media, but what are you doing in your home, in your corporate office, with your connections, with the power you have?”
Months later, Wagner launched the Black in Fashion Council (with publicist Sandrine Charles) to drive better representation, advance opportunities for Black people in fashion and hold the industry accountable.
Writing from Nigeria, a country that experienced its own set of crises this year, Omoyemi Akerele, founder of Lagos Fashion Week, said along with the coronavirus pandemic, “civil unrest across African countries and the pandemic of racism, have been human disasters of epic proportions with countless lives lost, reminding us of the one thread that binds us all together: our humanity.”
To talk about fashion trends following a year defined by crisis may seem nugatory, but the themes that emerged offer a window into these extraordinary times.
Read on for one last look at fashion around the world in 2020.
Functionality
Face masks became the unrivaled accessory of the year. People made their own, brands produced unique designs and, almost overnight, they became the finishing touch to many outfits.

Some labels went a step further by marketing new accessories — and in some cases, entire clothing lines — as having antimicrobial properties. While experts say it is difficult to assess whether antimicrobial treatments can protect wearers from Covid-19, the concept of protective fashion is itself a defining trend. We also saw high-fashion riffs on the idea, including Kenzo’s fetching beekeeper-inspired looks presented during Paris Fashion Week in September.
Comfort
Fashion platform Lyst looked at search data from over 100 million online shoppers and, in its annual report, found that Birkenstock clogs, Crocs, UGG slippers and Nike joggers were among the year’s most sought-after items of clothing.

Reflecting a shift in both reality and mindset, loungewear replaced office attire, and floaty “house dresses” — comfortable enough to take you from home office to daybed — rose in popularity. The term “cottagecore,” an internet trend encapsulating the spirit of cozy, rustic living, generated huge buzz as TikTok users showed off their attempts to channel the aesthetic at home.
Pop culture, of course, helped underscore these trends. BTS’ music video for “Life Goes On” showed the boyband in matching pajamas, playing video games and staring wistfully out of windows. Oh, to be a young, rich, self-isolating idol.

Statements
Statement-wear took on an entirely new meaning in 2020. From protest T-shirts in support of the Black Lives Matter movement to political merchandise in the lead up to the US election, people dressed not to impress, but to convey powerful messages.

According to Lyst data, searches for terms including “vote” were up 29% week-on-week in the US the month before the presidential election. And when When Michelle Obama wore her now famous “VOTE” necklace, designed by Chari Cuthbert, demand for the item skyrocketed.
Pre-election, Instagram was awash with celebrities posting selfies in hot pink power suits thanks to a campaign launched by workwear brand Argent and advocacy group Supermajority, encouraging women to exercise their voting power and further bolstering the power of pink to signal strength and female solidarity.
Whether intentional or not, Savannah Guthrie’s choice of pink suit (not by Argent) to interview President Trump during the NBC town hall did not go unnoticed.

Conscious
Growing demand for local, handmade, sustainable clothing isn’t a new trend. But the pandemic saw a rise in values-driven shopping, reflecting a shift in mindset among more prudent spenders, who, perhaps, also had more time to think about the brands they lent their loyalty to.
In a report issued in April, Lyst noted a 69% increase in searches for “vegan leather,” year-on-year.
In Nigeria, Akerele said that sourcing materials internationally became challenging, so designers and the wider community were incentivized to build more vertically integrated businesses. This, she said, reduced the industry’s carbon footprint: “It’s helped reduce waste in the system in a way that only sourcing locally on demand can; and empowered our community of artisans, craftsmen and local supply chains by generating income for them in the midst of inflation.”
Vasudev said that, in India, she noticed two shifts in behavior, both benefiting local artisans: “One was the overwhelming response to artisans selling directly online (aided of course by NGOs and crafts collectives). Two, a number of artisan funds and charities went up,” she said. “Indian consumers went out of their way to support the ‘karigars’ (artisans). By buying, donating, by prioritizing Made in India.”
Digital
From Shanghai to London, fashion weeks throughout the year went digital to present new collections safely. During London Fashion Week in September, Burberry streamed its show — filmed live in the woods — on Twitch, a social media platform more popular with gamers than fashionistas. Later that month in Milan, Moschino creative director Jeremy Scott swapped models for marionettes, cleverly presenting a micro-sized version of his collection in a video that embraced the absurdity of the moment.
Fashion designer stages show with puppets
Months before in May, Congolese designer Anifa Mvuemba, founder of the label Hanifa, streamed a mesmerizing 3D collection of her latest designs on invisible models. The innovative idea went viral, racking up millions of views on Instagram.
While e-commerce has been growing in popularity for years, the luxury fashion sector has, historically, been slow to embrace its digital future. The industry’s common gripes are about the loss of the physical luxury experiences like walking into a beautifully designed store, flipping through the pages of a glossy magazine or attending exclusive fashion shows.
While these attitudes were slowly changing before the pandemic, this year has drastically accelerated the shift to online. According to the aforementioned McKinsey report, we have “vaulted five years forward in consumer and business adoption of digital in a matter of months.”
Grégory Boutté, chief client and digital officer for Kering (which owns Gucci and Saint Laurent, among other brands), spoke to the Business of Fashion in December, telling the title: “Our e-commerce revenue during the first half of 2020 went from 6 percent to 13 percent of overall retail revenues year-over-year. In North America we were as high as 26 percent e-commerce — so already ahead of the 20 percent McKinsey expected for 2025.” He noted that he expects these gains to normalize, given these numbers reflect the fact that the businesses brick-and-mortar stores were closed for large parts of the year, leaving buyers with no option but to shop online.
The future
Fashion’s recovery from the pandemic is set to be slow, with experts predicting a difficult year ahead for businesses. Trends seen during a year defined by crisis will not be left at 2021’s door, and they may permanently change the shape of the industry.
Some of these changes are positive and, when it comes to questions of inclusion and sustainability, long overdue. This year may have also accelerated fashion’s compulsion to look ahead in search of a brighter future. This is, after all, an industry filled with dreamers.

Bohan Qiu, founder of Shanghai-based creative and communication agency Boh Project, said he can already see more exuberant fashion displays emerging in China as the country returns to some semblance of normalcy. “I feel like people are actually going more vibrant, more experimental, more interesting rather than going more conservative,” he said via voice message. “And you can really see on the streets or at parties or at events in China, or at shopping malls, all the brands are displaying really colorful patterns, prints and embellishments. I feel like that’s really coming back, it’s like we’re celebrating.”
