i get why people can get tired of the "dead parent // person not actually being dead" trope, but i do like when writers kinda put twists on them.

for example, i now have two AUs where either Angella managed to escape the 'dimension between realms' ( or wtv it is ) or Adora gets trapped there instead and also eventually escapes.

but, either way, it changes them.

inspired by 'Wolf In Sheep's Clothing Reborn' by Set It Off, Adora becomes angry, vindictive, and unapologetic, in regards to Catra and, eventually, the Horde. aside from the scars from when she was on Etheria, there are now 'corrupted' // iridescent scars on her body from her time in the in-between and the blast from the sword. and, on top of that, the Sword of Protection is broken.

with no She-Ra and only her unbridled grief and rage, Adora puts the fear of God in Catra and proves herself to be a danger to the Horde. she is, quite literally, too angry to die. and she plans to make the problem of everyone who dared to scar her.

as for Angella...

being immortal, living in the in-between with no one but vague whispers of the past around her, some from her own people, was a Hell in its own right. she didn't have the peace of dying. of seeing her husband at the end of the tunnel.

with her own grief, she is stuck in a cycle of despair and mental decline. in a sort of memory loss, she begins to slowly forget her own soul, as a form of utter heartbreak. her hope is lost.

then, she comes back.

like Adora would, she has scars from her time in the in-between.

and Glimmer is older. she's Queen.

and Angella knows that there was a time Glimmer was a child. logically, that just made sense. but...

she can't remember it.

Angella's story is inspired by this comic by spidertams.

Just thought of another kind of funny COTL au. Let's call it the "Wolf in Sheep's Clothing" au.

Wherein the "last lamb" is just a wolf in literal sheep's clothing situation.

Like. If the heretics put in charge of finding the Last Lamb accidentally killed all the lambs before they could pick one for that super fancy ceremony at the end, so they just decided to dress up a random wolf in a big wool sweater/lamb costume and try to pass them off as an actual lamb. Probably hoping that they can convince Leshy through scent and that the others won't question it.

Or maybe the wolf was adopted by a lamb couple before all the lambs had to go on the run, and they were killed either as a "lamb sympathizer" or because they ran at the bishops seeking revenge for their parents' deaths. And since they were adopted by lambs, the nature of prophecies and how they can twist and turn and run on technicalities means they count as a lamb culturally, if not biologically.

Or maybe they just had the ironic last name of "Lamb" and was the only member of their generation, with their parents and grandparents having already passed of old age or random tragic accident.

Or they were the last member of a club whose acronym spelled out LAMB.

Narinder has had other vessels before, after all, who don't have any prophecies attached to them as far as we know. He could have just been assuming this was another Ratau situation and just picked a wolf as a vessel to basically kill some time. Having no idea until the end that this was the prophesied "last lamb."

Yoichi: Why can't we ask for help so we don't need to eat others?

AFO: Because we are wolves, they see our fangs and fur caked in blood and they will flee.

Yoichi: Have you tried? I'm not caked in blood.

AFO: They will always run. They will never trust a wolf so just listen to me and we will be safe. Don't ever leave.

Some rough character design concepts! The Lamb looks a teeny bit different when she sheds her mortal form. She doesn’t quite realize that, though...

i just thought of something about frostpaw’s design having a wolf motif and her huge autopsy scar - it reminds me of how in multiple fairy tales (particularly ittle red riding hood, like you mentioned in the design post), the wolves in those stories have their stomachs cut open. i just thought that was cool :3

I hadn't even considered that, but it makes it work even better. The fairytales don't even just have the wolf get their belly cut open-- they also get filled with stones and tossed in the river.

There's a clear image in my mind that when Frostpaw is put under the human tranquilizer, her mind falls backward and plunges her into liquid void. A dream takes hold, bubbles forming in the dark, her body cradled by clear water as far as she can perceive.

The unspoken knowledge of her dream tells her that she's in a raindrop, the river, the lake, and Riverstar Himself. The embodiment of water. And He is endless.

Her problems are washed away by the sheer vastness of his being, and she's just beginning to wrap her head around the marvel of it all when she opens her eyes in a den. Warm, comfortable, surrounded by hay.

The vision sloshes in her mind like dancing waves. She has a boiling desire to understand what it meant-- and the only thing that comes to mind is the Tribe of Rushing Water's philosophy that all things are connected by the river. That living by the Lake, fed by the southern delta, which rushes down from the mountain's waterfall, makes their cultures kin.

She decides to start there, and will go further south if need be. Thus begins Book 3 of BB!ASC, The Source of the River.

Wolf in Sheep's Clothing

It was never a lamb. They were all slaughtered for nothing :).

It/Its

The Tower (reversed?), Two of Cups, Ten of Swords.

The decapitation was permanent, there is no scar left behind, it uses the crown as a collar that keeps its head on its body.

When distracted, its ears stand straight up, resembling a wolf.

It has no wool, only coarse fur. Of course, followers born after its death wouldn't know the difference if they had never felt wool before.

Utilizes Fleece of the Hobbled Heels and ONLY Fleece of the Hobbled Heels.

Tanks blows more often than it avoids them, coming back from crusades covered in its own blood.

Has a skewed concept of "love" and "affection".

It has canine teeth, so it tries not to smile in order to not scare its followers.

Finds an odd kinship in The Fox.

Occasionally, it mass-culls off followers with negative attributes.

It gives a necklace to every follower it likes, and none to those it doesn't.

Can't eat plants.

Since everyone in Cult of the Lamb seems to reproduce via eggs, do you think any of them practiced brood parasitism in the wild? I mean—the expectant parents would obviously realize when the eggs hatched that the kid was not biologically theirs (unless everyone was just picking nests they knew belonged to others of their same species), but… I could see some interesting cultural things resulting.

Possibly this would just mean that there were a lot more changeling tales floating around, or the idea of a “stork” who goes around adding extra eggs to nests sometimes. Maybe there would be some sort of tradition of creating fake nests in the hope of tricking a “cuckoo” so their own eggs stay safe/attracting a stork in the hopes that an egg will appear if a couple is unable to have a child together?

A lot of interesting possibilities to think about, is all I’m saying.

If you mean that Tag6 and Aster will be Sophie's siblings then no, in wolf in Sheep's clothing at least, they aren't part of the au

We did however discussed an universe with @lizaluvsthis where they all are hanging out and just love the image of tag6 and Sophie bonding
