Why did they agree to accompany Wuk Lamat to Tural?

Aeryn doesn't know it (and won't for some time), but yes, she actually is! For many years, she's so anxious regarding nearness with others that she rarely puts herself in circumstances that would enable her to figure this out—but there are signs of it even in the beginning. She forms a habit of dozing off in the common room of the Waking Sands, very late at night, usually when the place is mostly empty (or, more often, when no one else but Urianger is around). Following their "exodus" to the Rising Stones, it's not uncommon for Aeryn to lapse into sleep in a corner while all the Scions are chatting and being social in the evening.

(Yes, yes, I know I'm frolicking in a field of "she rests easier when near those she is most comfortable with" tropes. Let me have this.)

Though she lacks awareness of it (and usually feels shame afterwards), the fact that she rests well when sharing space with those she trusts is the initial hint of her still-unknown-to-her preference. Those late nights with Urianger in the Waking Sands are particularly formative, because he's the first one she knowingly reaches out to for any kind of intentional physical connection (at least with an intent to draw comfort for herself rather than offer it to others). And later with the others in the Rising Stones, I've written multiple little moments when she, asleep, reaches for someone's sleeve or the back of their shirt and seems to hang on—signs that she actually does draw comfort from her closeness with others when at her least guarded.

Aeryn eventually becomes cognizant of this preference—probably as early as late StB, but most certainly during ShB—by which point she would have grown mostly comfortable enough to (with some hesitation) initiate nearness herself, then doze off with her head on someone's shoulder or other similar sorts of closeness. A restless and/or sleepy Aeryn would find Urianger reading and would settle beside him, then fidget with his jewelry or smooth out some drape of the fabric of his clothes mindlessly until she began to doze curled up beside him. Maybe not quite cuddling, but as far Aeryn's concerned, it might as well be.

Does your WoL/OC's story have a central theme(s)?

The quick tl;dr: Aeryn doesn't know her age. I'll offer some vague approximations, but I reserve the right to revise after replaying all the expansions.

Cut for some timeline and ShB/EW lore-specific spoilers.

Pre-ARR: Her "past self" (the actual shard that was Aeryn Stormwater) and her star both "die" when she's in her late teens (18 at most). Hydaelyn suspends her in aethereal stasis along with all her star's magic, where she remains until the calamity claims the life of her recently awakened shard on the Source. The rejoining causes her stasis to "crack," and she begins to "age" again.

ARR: 23ish. She's aged five years in Hydaelyn's "broken" stasis by the time it fully shatters, and she awakens "reborn" on the Source. So much happens in ARR I refuse to believe it takes less than two years, so...

HW: Mid-20s, roughly 25 at the start. I'm working on my own personal revised timeline for HW at the moment and insist that HW MSQ should have happened very fast with a more drawn out post-MSQ timeline as the WoL begins exploring all that's happened while they were stuck in Ishgard. Still in progress, but I'd tentatively peg it all at taking roughly a year and a half.

StB: 26-27ish. I do think StB took right at or maybe shortly over a year. Despite the pace of gameplay, the plot itself feels like the sort of story that, once begun, proceeded like wildfire on the timeline. (I suspect the travel time took longer than a great deal of the plot, though I may revise once I get around to replaying it.)

ShB: 28ish. Lore bite: when Aeryn starts absorbing the light magic of the First, it triggers all her (seemingly) dormant star magic to awaken again, shielding her from danger as it did her predecessor. This is likely what kickstarts her broken, star-like aging process. She stops aging entirely during the events of ShB, and even after expelling the excess light, her aging remains more prolonged and sporadic. It would be undetectable to anyone at this point, but she'd still be 28, or at most a few months shy of 29, by the end of ShB.

EW: Still 28ish. I haven't done any post-EW, but EW feels like it happens fast in spite of the worldwide/interstellar travel. I'd like to play it through again before saying for sure, but it does feel like at least another year passes here. On paper, Aeryn would be 31-32 by the time she returns from the edge of the universe. Physically, however, she's still sitting pretty at 28-29—and will be for the indefinite future, because star-age-stasis-plot-magic.
