2/20/24.
Happy birthday Scott Lawrimore (Buick). If you're ever looking to stay in a bubble house with the Chartreuse in the background, hit this link. Say happy birthday for me when you see him.
Joe Ziffer (Adelaide, Australia) doesn't really remind me of Scott's music at all. The cassette was released via Tenth Court late last year. I listened, liked and then forgot. Thanks to "When You Motor Away" for bringing it back to my attention. I've been loving all things Syd Barrett lately, so this really itches that scratch.
Dom Trimboli (Wireheads) descibes Ziffer as "the wonky plonky wonderfully wobbly jamboree jangler". He also mentions Kevin Ayers and Pip Proud as touchstones. I would also mention Ray Davies, The Great Unwashed and Bingo Trappers.

Wireheads – Potentially Venus LP (Tenth Court)
RECOMMENDED
God I missed this band. Haven't missed a beat. Fifth album, crew outta Adelaide, continuing to build/blow off steam. At the kernel is the sort of aggravated folk-punk of Cracker or Camper Van Beethoven, but replace the cutesy artifice and ska leanings with authentically rad historicals (The Saints, The Mekons, The Fall). You don't need me to tell you anything else. Couldn't ask for more, really. Glad they're back. (Doug Mosurock)

5/20/23.
Expensive Music Band are a Cringlia, Australia (suburb of Wollongong) band. "Things to say at a barbeque" is their debut LP released by both Permanent Slump and Exclusive Culture.
I've been enjoying this release which kind of moves between Le Villejuif Underground (Nathan Roche), Wireheads and Lawrence Arabia. From those three, you probably get the idea that this can rock at times and mosey along at others.
This has the Mikey Young stamp of approval.

Reviewing Indie Brand Wire head
I actually don’t own that many indie brand releases because I own a lot of clothes already. Being able to fit into Japanese brands means its easier to just go for them instead of trying my luck elsewhere. But I had seen this brand in my friend’s stories on insta and was pretty interested in their stuff. Wirehead started up last year and started producing small batches of old school looks that…

There have been a couple thinkpieces on why multiverses are so popular in movies. Usually they attempt to make some grand theory about society or culture or whatever, maybe imply we're in some new era of post-meta-whatever, but I honestly think there's three things that can explain most of it:
Multiverses make it easy to do the sort of Baskin-Robbins 31 flavors of the same thing that scratches a similar itch to Hogwarts Houses
Fads and Lemming-like follow the leader behavior explain 90% of everything, people and especially executives like what's popular and right now Multiverses are it. They also haven't been mined out for the sort of stories you can tell, at least in mass media.
"Retell and resell the same story again" is the wireheading of studio moviemaking, but usually you have to wait awhile before remaking it; now you can make that the main selling point!

1/21/23.
Cowboy Machine are a Christchurch, New Zealand band. "U Up?" is their album released in 2020 on the venerable Melted Ice Cream label. How did I miss this? I only learned about it because about the cool new video for "Morning Glory". Check it out (at the top of the Bandcamp page)...it's a poor man's Prince Achmed.
The Bandcamp page states John Cale, Neutral Milk Hotel and Tall Dwarfs as inspirations. I would add Terror of the Deep, Wireheads and Scott & Charlene's Wedding (those vocals!).
Members have played in other Christchurch bands...most notably (to me at least) Minisnap.
