What if - Chapter 2
SECOND CHAPTER!! Thanks to everyone who read and shared it!!
So....who's that mysterious man who talked to Catherine at the museum? Ready to find out? 😏
HOPE YOU LIKE IT!!!
💙👑
3rd of June of 2005
It was raining, as usual in London. That day Kate didn’t work in the morning so she decided to lend her car to Pippa because she needed it, that was why she used the underground to go to the Gallery. The brunette walked out of Charing Cross station and opened her umbrella, when she walked through the main entrance, she saw the same jacket and cap from two days ago. She couldn’t go find him because she had a group in ten minutes, but Kate would be looking for him.
After what felt like ages, she finished with the tour and let the students walk around. Kate stood in a corner when she saw the man from the other day and decided to talk to him. He was standing in front of one of the last portraits of Lady Diana, by Mario Testino.
-She was beyond gorgeous.-The brunette’s head tilt a little. He didn’t say anything.-I have always admire her.-The man just stood still, without making any noise. After a minute he walked to the next portrait.-Sorry to bother you.-She said walking away and standing where she could see her group.
Kate couldn’t help but keep watching him; going portrait by portrait, he ended up nearly next to her but facing oposite directions.
-You didn’t bother, sorry for being an idiot. I got too deep into my thoughts.-He had his hands in his pockets, as usual. Kate felt the same way as the first time, as she had already talked to him before. She smiled softly.
-It’s okay, I get like that too when I’m in a museum.-They stood in silence for a moment, It wasn’t as uncomfortable as it should be for two strangers.-I was thinking, isn’t it a bit unfair that you know my name but I don’t know yours?-He smiled at her and move to be in front of her to shook her hand.
-Steve.
-Very pleased to meet you.-Said Kate while taking his hand.
-I was wonde…-
-Excuse me ma’am, I had a question about a portrait-One of the kids of her group interrupted Steve, pointing at one of the portraits. The woman turned to the eleven year old.
-Yes, I’ll be there in a minute.-Kate wanted to say goodbye to Steve but when she turned around he was already gone, all she could do was watch him leave. The rest of the day was quite boring for Kate. She was grabbing her things to go home already when the man in charge of her department came to her.
-Miss. Middleton, do you have a moment please?
-Yes, of course, what’s the matter?
-Well, I just received a phone call from Sandy Nairne…-Kate’s body froze when she heard the director’s name.-He told me that a member of the royal family will become patron of the museum and will open a new collection. They asked me to find an expert about photography, because that will be the main subject of the collection and will also contain a few things about the camera’s history. Well the thing is that, I believe you could be that expert.-The brunette stood still, thinking if that was some sort of prank.-Would you do it?
-I...Uhm...Yes, of course, I…
-No need to say that this is still confidential. I will tell you the member’s name eventually but for safety I can’t do it yet.
-Yes, I understand. Don’t worry.-Kate was very excited internally, she wanted to scream and jump all over the place. When her boss was about to walk away he turned around one more time.
-I can only give you a clue, It’ll be at the end of this month.-With that he finally walked away and left Kate there. The young woman quickly grabbed her things and went straight home. She didn't want to find Pippa yet because her sister would notice her excitement and would worm it out of her.
Kate got home earlier that day and luckily Pips wasn't there yet, she fixed herself a quick dinner and went straight to her bedroom, switching on the little TV she had there while listening the rain through the window. She was going through the TV channels when she saw on the BBC News that they were talking about the royal family, specifically about the upcoming 23rd birthday of Prince William.
Catherine smiled about that and the first thing that came to her mind was Steve. She always got this strange feeling everytime he appeared next to her at the museum, she wished they could get in touch any other way. Suddenly her thoughts were stopped by her phone ringing, It was an unknown number so she thought about not picking up. FInally she did.
-Yes?-A pause was made until a familiar voice finally talked.
-Hello, Catherine.-The brunette’s mouth opened wide.
-Steve? How...how did you…?
-Well, a man has his contacts.-He let out a little laugh.-I bet you had no idea but I’ve met your boss a couple of times, I just had to ask some people and they gave me your number.
Kate was smiling widely. Yes, she felt that strange feeling and chemistry but she never thought he was feeling it to...because to ask for her number...he had to feel something, right?
-I, well then, hi...I don’t...I don’t really know what to say.-She started giggling and feeling like a 15 year old girl who’s crush is talking to her.
-It’s okay I, I just wanted to keep in touch with you. I won’t be able to go to the museum for some days so, If I can’t see you, at least I have your number to hear your voice.
In the center of London, the so-called Steve was walking in his room, a little nervous but confident at the same time. He had no idea why he asked for her number, he felt like he needed to hear her voice again, but with his contacts he didn’t want her to think he was some kind of pervert.
-Catherine, I, If you are uncomfortable with this, you can tell me. I know I should have ask you directly, I was planning to today but you had more important things to do and people to guide.-He started playing with a pan he found on his desk.
-Don’t worry, It’s okay.-She made a little pause, placing some of her hair behind her ear.-I like you did, even if It seems a little…
-Pervert?-He cut her.
-Hey, I didn’t say that, okay? You did.-She let out a smile that, even though he couldn’t see it, it made him smile as well.
-I just want you to be okay with this, with us talking.
Kate was biting her lip thinking whether or not she should ask what was crossing her mind at the moment. “What the...If not now, when?”
-Hey, I wanted to ask, you know it’s okay to keep doing this, talking through the phone and seeing each other at the museum sometimes but…-There she went, she wasn’t being too fast, wasn’t she? Tho she couldn’t care less.-...would you like to go out sometime? For a drink or, to another museum…
There was a pause, a really long pause that made Kate really anxious and Steve too scared. What was he supposed to do? Suddenly a knock on the door saved him from having to answer.
-I’m sorry Catherine but I have to go, I will call you tomorrow or when I have some time, okay?
-Yes...yes of course, see you then.
-Bye.
Kate heard the beep that followed the hung up and started screaming, letting all the tension out of her body.
-Why did you do it? Why did you have to be so stupid and ruin it?!-She fell on the bed.-UGH
______
-Hey son, can I talk to you?-A man, with gray hair and middle aged to old factions, came into the room.
-Yes, dad, what is it?
-I was just informed that you called Sandy Nairne to ask for a favour.-Steve started getting nervous.-To ask for a specific guide for the visit...A young woman named...Catherine Middleton?
-Yes, and?
-No, nothing I was just wondering why. But If you don’t want to tell me, it’s okay.-The man walked through the room and went to the door.-Just be careful, think before doing anything stupid.-And with that, he was gone.
The young man sat on an armchair and lean back, not knowing exactly what to do. He wanted to meet Catherine but then, he had to tell her the truth about who he was. And that terrified him. He grabbed his phone and typed a SMS, after five minutes of deleting and retyping, he pressed send, letting out a sigh.
In a Chelsea apartment, Kate’s phone rang just as she was walking out from the shower. It was an SMS from Steve.
“Yes. The Crown, Covent Garden. Sun 7pm.”
The brunette almost screamed, she jumped in bed and got ready to sleep, not being able to stop smiling. She has never been this excited for anything in her life before.

Pennywise Lives Again!
This Meeting of the Losers Club Has Officially Begun
Finding the Deadlights
The Summers of IT: Chapter One, You’ll Float Too
The Summers of IT: Chapter Two, IT Ends
Here’s our previous coverage of the movie with stacks of reviews:
IT: Chapter Two is a 2019 American supernatural horror feature film directed by Andy Muschietti (Mama) from a screenplay Gary Dauberman (The Nun; Annabelle; Within; Wolves at the Door; et al), based on the novel by Stephen King. Seth Grahame-Smith and Barbara Muschietti produced.
Bill Skarsgård returns as Pennywise the clown, with Jessica Chastain (Crimson Peak; Mama) as adult Beverly, Bill Hader (The Skeleton Twins) as Richie, James McAvoy as Bill, James Ransone (Sinister; Sinister 2) as Eddie, Isaiah Mustafa (Shadowrunner: The Mortal Instruments) as Mike Hanlon, Andy Bean (Allegiant) as Stanley, Jay Ryan (Mary Kills People) as the adult Ben Hanscom.
Plot:
Twenty-seven years later, the members of the Loser’s Club have grown up and moved away, until a devastating phone call brings them back…
Reviews:
“The group dynamics of the (very good) cast propel the film as each Losers Club member faces down his or her personal demons. (Chastain especially gives the material a lift.) Taking each storyline at a time, all accompanied by flashbacks, gives each character some depth, even as the crowded film — at nearly three-hours long — verges on turning into a clown car.” Jake Coyle, Associated Press
“The whole film is going damn near overboard, for better and worse. It’s easy to admire Muschietti’s film for its excess and imagination. It’s easy to watch and enjoy it as a fright flick. It’s just harder to connect with the adult versions of these characters than it should be, and it’s harder to take this story seriously than it was before.” William Bibbiani, Bloody Disgusting
” …each scene begins relatively innocently before exploding into a waking nightmare that preys on the worst fears and repressed memories of each of the Losers. All good stuff, but more often than not, director Muschietti and the first-rate special effects team deliver gross-out visuals in favor of truly chilling and tense psychological terror. I mean, the Losers have to deal with a lot of arachnid-inspired imagery.” Richard Roeper, Chicago Sun-Times
“The devotion that Dauberman and Muschietti exhibit towards the Losers is palpable from start to finish, and despite some pitfalls in the film’s pacing, overall what they’ve managed to achieve with their collaborative efforts on IT Chapter Two is nothing short of monumental, and I think they’ve crafted something very special with these two films.” Heather Wixson, Daily Dead
“A psychologically merciless sequel, everything here is as it should be: deeper, scarier, funnier. Muschietti, in particular, has stepped up, skilfully guiding us through a rollicking funhouse. It is obscenely entertaining.” Alex Godfrey, Empire
” …even if Chapter One was example enough, there are no diminishing returns when it comes to shock value. Any time Pennywise feeds on life there is genuine sadness over the loss (the naivety and insecurities of his child victims contrasted with Bill Skarsgård’s master manipulator tendencies ensure it so), whether it’s a character we are attached to or someone newly introduced. ” Richard Kodjer, Flickering Myth
“The terror of Pennywise is best glimpsed fleetingly. See the clown too many times, and he becomes a familiar joke. But also letting the air out of things is Muschietti’s penchant for CGI scares, where practical effects would be far more effective. The movie’s many monstrosities – a crawling eyeball! a giant spider! an insect with the head of a human infant! – don’t inspire fear.” Barry Hertz, The Globe and Mail
” …Chapter Two seems to consist of an indefinite number of big, scary set pieces, featuring interchangeable snaggle-toothed creatures, or occasionally gigantic, fairground-sized monsters lurching grotesquely up out of nowhere. The scenes deliver reasonably efficient scares, but with the tension level repeatedly and disconcertingly reset afterwards to zero…” Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian
“Muschietti’s faithful adaptation, with all its creative and creepy set pieces, can’t justify that ass-numbing run time; especially not when the characters are just doing a lot of the same things they did in the first movie. They run into cobwebbed houses, stare down nightmarish visions and get tangled up with a clown that can morph into all kinds of silly, gigantic creatures. It’s all so easily forgettable.” Radheyan Simonpillai, Now Toronto
“Chapter Two is darker than the first, Bill’s attempt to deal with the guilt of losing his little brother by saving another ending in a brutal bit of bloodshed. Yet there are really only a couple of scary jolts, too many scary CGI puppets repeating themselves, too many effects beholden to Carpenter’s The Thing. McAvoy feels miscast here, perhaps a first for the actor.  Chastain, Ransone and Hader do a great job updating their childhood counterparts…” Laura Clifford, Reeling Reviews
“Maybe it’s just that an evil clown terrorizing kids is intrinsically scarier than one going after adults. Or maybe it’s that the filmmakers, apparently believing this themselves, put the majority of their focus on a series of digitally created monstrosities. Whatever the case, It: Chapter Two, though ultimately satisfying, doesn’t get at the deep-seated creeps its predecessor did.” Michael Gingold, Rue Morgue
“IT: Chapter Two never really depicts the way dewy sentimentality can curdle into pain and regret or considers whether the other side of middle age offers a way of letting go of the past. Its monster only occasionally embodies the otherworldly fearfulness that leads the characters to speak of it in hushed tones. But at least Muschietti is trying for something epic and intimidating…” Keith Phipps, The Verge
” …when the filmmakers don’t force the story to fit into strict parameters and just let the story flow with these characters that we love, IT Chapter Two can be just as effective and emotional as the first film. For fans of the novel, you shouldn’t miss this because much of what we love about the book makes its way to the screen, even if it can’t completely hit every high point. IT Chapter Two is clunky, too long, and not as scary as it could have been, but when it hits, it really hits.” Alan Cerny, Vital Thrills
“Real trauma is given the same consideration as a literal funhouse of horrors, which cheapens what the characters and audience are put through.” Alan Silberman, Washington Post
“What stands out in It Chapter Two is not the clearly labored-over insect effects but that moment with Mrs Kersh and the scene of Pennywise as Beverly’s father — both reliant on actors rather than technical wizardry. The human eye can tell that there is not much in effects but effects themselves with a story like this about evil. But an actor like Gregson or Skarsgård can channel evil for us because they are human…” Dan Callahan, The Wrap

The New Line Cinema production is obviously the sequel to the smash-hit horror movie IT (2017) which took a whopping $700,381,748 at the box office worldwide against a reported budget of $35 million.
Controversy:
As reported by 9news, some parents in Australia say that giant billboards of Pennywise’s face have been giving their young children nightmares.
“It just totally freaks them out,” Brisbane mother Kellie told the Australian news outlet, speaking about her kids’ reaction to the billboards. Her daughter Piper added: “I get really scared because it’s hard to go to bed when you have a scary picture in your mind. Before I go to bed, I have to check the whole room. And when I finally go to bed I will wake up after a nightmare.”
Another mother also told 9news that her child is terrified by the imagery. “Some people do enjoy going to horror movies and that’s fine and that’s their choice, and I understand that but we’re not choosing to see this poster,” said Jane, who issued a complaint with Ad Standards. The latter body has confirmed that the ads don’t break any of their rules. [Source: Bloody Disgusting]
Production:
Filming on IT: Chapter 2 officially began on June 20 in Toronto with a release date of September 6, 2019.
Background:
IT: Chapter Two clocks in at a whopping 169 minutes.
“A movie is very different when you’re writing the script and you’re building a story compared to what the final product is,” director Andy Muschietti told Digital Spy and other press.
“At the beginning, when you’re writing and building the beats of the story, everything that you put in there seems very essential to the story. However, when you have the movie finally edited and it’s 4 hours long, you realise that some of the events and some of the beats can be easily lifted but the essence of the story remains intact.
“You cannot deliver a 4-hour movie because people will start to feel uncomfortable – no matter what they see – but we ended up having a movie that is 2 hours and 45 minutes, and the pacing is very good. “Nobody who’s seen the movie has had any complaint.”

hi! Comics rec anon here! to answer your question, I'm not entirely new to comics, have read a few but not enough to say I have a specific type. The first series I read was all the jessica jones comics which I really liked, also the miles morales series which i enjoyed and the spidergwen series which was cute but the art was kinda annoying lol. i also like a couple of dc ones like mister miracle. so i think i prefer a general rec from you since the comics world is so big. thanks in advance!
Got it. Hmm… let’s see. It’s probably easiest to break it down by publisher then. I’ll try to give a mix of ongoing, finished, and “classic” stories.
Fair warning, I read a lot of comics (probably about 60 per month, and that’s not including manga), so even though this may feel like a long list, it’s short for me.
Marvel
Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man - Relatively new series, and it’s been fantastic so far. Great art, and a bit more grounded than the Amazing Spider-Man run (which is also great). Stellar art, too.
Miles Morales: Spider-Man - A little YA-ish at times, but overall enjoyable. You get to see a lot more of Miles’ personality in this one, which is always fun.
Superior Spider-Man - Because nothing is more fun than seeing a semi-reformed Otto Octavius try to be a hero.
Captain Marvel - Kelly Thompson does a phenomenal job with this series. She has a great hold of Carol’s voice. Would highly recommend Kelly Sue Deconnick and Margaret Stohl’s previous runs to give context (Captain Marvel 2012-2017, Mighty Captain Marvel, and The Life of Captain Marvel).
Jessica Jones - Not sure if you’ve read Kelly Thompson’s recent run or just Bendis’, but hers is definitely worth a read.
Avengers (2019) - actually a solid run. I would check this out if you’re more into crossover, large-scale storytelling. They’re in the middle of War of the Realms, though… so maybe wait until like August or September?
Immortal Hulk, Daredevil, and X-23 - also good. I read them off and on (not really my fave characters to read on their own, I enjoy them in ensembles), but the stories are solid.
Rogue & Gambit - mini series that I absolutely love by Kelly Thompson (she does great character work) that came out last year. Mr. & Mrs. X is a follow-up to it and also tons of fun (nearing its end as well).
Runaways - I fell off of this when Brian K. Vaughn left, but I can say up through his run ended is well worth the read.
As far as classic stories, Infinity Gauntlet, The Dark Phoenix Saga, X-Men: Age of Apocalypse, Secret Invasion, and Secret Wars would be my first recommendations.
I would’ve recommended Spider-Gwen: Ghost Spider, but maybe wait on that. It’s about to end soon and transition to just Ghost Spider (where she leaves Earth-65 and comes to Earth-616 where Peter and Miles are). Same for X-Men. I’m currently reading Uncanny, but X-Men is about to be overhauled soon. So probably hold on that front.
DC/Vertigo
Honestly, not the biggest DC fan (I lean more towards Vertigo actually), but there are a few that I enjoy.
Action Comics (starting at #1000) - I am not a Superman fan, but I enjoy this series, which says a lot. I enjoy what Bendis is doing with him in this run.
Naomi - a new series, also by Bendis, following the story of a young Black girl who is investigating the circumstances around her adoption. Don’t want to give too much away, but probably my fave DC run at the moment. And Jamal Campbell’s art is fucking gorgeous.
Dial H for Hero - it’s fun. It’s weird. Not for everyone, but maybe give it a shot.
The Flash and Batman, New 52 runs - New 52 gets shit from fans a lot, but I thought these runs were awesome. Very good story-telling.
Dark Nights: Metal event - Probably one of the best things DC did in a long time. It’s a massive event that pretty much reworked the DC universe and all the characters. Enjoyed it immensely.
Heroes in Crisis - this miniseries ended very recently. It’s a story focused on a major event that happens at Sanctuary, a rehab for superheroes suffering from mental health issues (e.g. PTSD after doing something that nearly killed them). Not your usual superhero story, which I liked.
American Carnage - very gritty story focused on a white-passing Black man who infiltrates a white supremacist organization. It’s really fucking good.
High Level - I picked this book up randomly because the cover looked cool. I’ve been reading it ever since. I would say it’s weird sci-fi/fantasy/cyberpunk adventure. A little strong on the language, but very interesting story and great artwork.
Birds of Prey - awesome series with the DC women. A little shaky sometimes, but Gail Simone does really good character work. Her run is probably the only one I’d bother reading.
Deathbed - miniseries by Vertigo that ended maybe a year ago. It’s so bizarre and hilarious and out there. I loved it.
Batwoman (J.H. Williams run) and Batwoman: Rebirth - Kate Kane, my favorite lesbian superhero. Williams did a great job in his run (and the art is to die for). Don’t read the back half, they change writers and it’s a goddamn mess. But then Marguerite Bennett (a queer woman) picked it up in Rebirth, and it got awesome again. Also, shout-out to Greg Rucka for officially making her queerness canon in 52.
Wonder Woman - Wonder Woman’s my fave of DC main characters (along with Martian Manhunter and Wally West I & II), and my favorite run for her is Greg Rucka’s. He does a surprisingly good job of writing women. The run is over at the moment, but I’d check it out. Good stuff there.
For classic stories, Kingdom Come, Watchmen, Flashpoint (precursor to New 52), and Neil Gaiman’s Sandman are some of my faves.
Image
Image is probably what I read the most. Definitely has the most diverse pool of comics to choose from.
Saga - My favorite comic series of all-time. I’ve gotten so many people to read this and they love it. It’s weird - really weird, actually - but the storytelling is phenomenal. And it’s on hiatus right now, so plenty of time to get caught up.
Ice Cream Man - This series is so fucking weird, but I love it. It’s sorta like… Tales from the Crypt? Different stories (mostly horror) that all feature this demon ice cream man.
The Weatherman - This series is such a goddamn delight. I don’t want to ruin the plot but just… yeah. Read the first issue and it just goes crazy from there.
Man-Eaters - Sort of a niche story. Basically, this takes place in a society where when women get their cycle, they turn into giant cats and maul men, so they’ve given them pills to keep them from menstruating. Sounds weird? Wait until you read it. Probably a highlight series of the year for me.
Black Science - You might not like the art in this one, but maybe give it a shot? These scientists are trying to solve the problem of limited resources on Earth by hopping across dimensions for new ones (infinite dimensions, infinite resources). Only problem is, their machine got damaged so now they hop uncontrollably to whatever dimension it chooses for however long it decides. It’s a wild ride.
Middlewest - An interesting take on parent/child relationships and how the consequences of abuse, anger, and depression can manifest in dangerous ways. Sounds more bleak than it is - the story actually has quite a bit of humor.
Excellence - Very new series, but with a PoC lead, about PoCs, with mostly PoC creators. A story about a secret society of Black magicians and a son whose next in line to take on the mantle, and it’s pretty fucking cool. Issue 2 comes out this week - check it out!
The Walking Dead - I don’t think I have to explain this one, do I? Zombies.
Lazarus and Lazarus: Risen - Sci-fi story set in a dystopian society where the world is ruled by like 15 or so families, and they each have a Lazarus to fight for them. This is told from the perspective of the Carlyle family’s Lazarus, Forever.
Die - If Dungeons & Dragons and Jumanji had a baby, it would be this book. Sounds weird, but once you read it, you’ll find the description to be accurate.
Anything from Brian K. Vaughn - I have yet to read something from Brian K. Vaughn that I don’t like. Saga, Paper Girls, Y: The Last Man, Runaways, Barrier… his shit’s always good.
Independents / Not Marvel, DC, or Image
Some of these are nostalgia-based, so fair warning.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (BOOM Studios) - very new series that’s out. Great art. If you were a fan of the show, I think you’ll like it. It’s a re-imagining of sorts. There’s also an Angel series that just started.
Nancy Drew (Dynamite) - Listen… I could not stand Nancy Drew as a kid. Never got into it and thought it was boring as hell. But I really loved this miniseries (another Kelly Thompson run). It’s maybe 5 issues?
Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers and Go Go Power Rangers (BOOM Studios) - Honest to God, if you had told me 3 years ago one of my fave comics would be a Power Rangers one, I would have laughed in your face. Both of these series are really good and provide the continuity, nuance, and characterization the show lacked. Fan of the show or not, I’d say it’s worth checking out if you enjoy the teenage superhero genre. Also, just some really amazing art and world-building.
Anything from Jinxworld - This is Bendis’ own publishing company. He’s put out Cover, Pearl, Scarlet, and United States vs. Murder, Inc. All of them are really good.
Umbrella Academy (Dark Horse) - This is the series the Netflix show is based off of. Right now, they’re doing Hotel Oblivion in the comics, but start with Apocalypse Suite and Dallas.
So, there you go anon. There are FAR more I would recommend, but I tried to give a good range of books for you to choose from without (hopefully) overwhelming you. And if you have any questions, I’m more than happy to talk about any of them.

Book: 2/50 Started: 06/01/2020 Finished: 12/01/2020 Rating: 3/5  Warning: May contain spoilers!
When I first discovered goodreads at around age 15, I spent hours and hours window shopping the books I’d love to read, and The Royal We was one of them. Fast forward around five years, I serendipitously stumbled across it in the library, and figured I’d give it a go. It’s a pretty long read at 400 pages with the bonus chapter that was included, but I managed to get through it within a week.
This book employs the use of what I like to call ‘The Fan Fiction Formula’ (which you can read in detail here). Take one, perfectly normal and unassuming girl next door, who somehow ends up in a situation where she comes face-to-face with a very highly coveted celebrity (and without trying to), they fall in love with each other. Perhaps it’s because many reviewers refer to this as Will and Kate fanfiction, or perhaps it’s because it’s written from an American standpoint - who all seem to really love and adore the Royals (in the U.K., the majority of us don’t give a toss about them).
The story is told over 5 parts, starting in Oxford where they meet as American Bex Porter decides to do her year abroad, and ends up in the same dorms as Prince Nick (Prince Wills, of course). Along the five parts we follow Bex on her journey of living and working in London, becoming an adult and keeping her exciting but secretive relationship with Nick, all the way until stuff really gets serious and we find ourselves at the inevitable royal wedding. Mix that with conflicting feelings for womanizer brother Prince Freddie (Prince Harry) and Bex battling against her twin sister Lacey, who’s dying to be in the situation that Bex somehow just… stumbled into; it does actually make for a pretty interesting read.
Bex ‘Rebecca’ Porter is just your normal, upper-middle class American girl, hailing all the way from the state of Iowa, who’s been living in the shadow of her preppy and popular twin, Lacey. As the story goes on, we see their twin dynamic flip, Bex living the life that Lacey tries so hard to chase. Princes Nick and Freddie are pretty much the characterised versions of William and Harry, blanks filled in nicely, albeit sometimes stereotypically by Heather and Jessica. The Royal We also goes to show that good supporting characters can make or break the story: Gaz, Cilla, Clive, Joss and Bea were all heartwarming and supportive, even when it felt that sometimes their lives purely revolved around Nick and Bex drama. The supporting characters sometimes were the only thing keeping my attention during long pages of never-ending Nex drama (though, I felt that there were a lot of characters to take in, especially in the beginning; I spent half of part 1 not realising Bea and Lady Bollocks were the same person).
The story isn’t just a fetishization of the royal life, but it is equally a coming-of-age story. We’re with Bex for nearly 10 years; from her uni days all the way until she’s getting married. And for the most part, she was just trying to figure out her life and handle a really harsh tragedy, with the additional complication of the tabloid press, life in the limelight and dating the most eligible bachelor of eligible bachelors. Bex’s ultimate conflict with getting married to Nick wasn’t that she didn’t love him; if anything she loved him too much - but she didn’t want to lose who she was (which I had a hard time understanding, since I didn’t have mounds of personality). Her confused romance with Freddie made my eyes roll a little, but I also liked that Bex wasn’t just confined to Nick as lover - her existence did extend to outside of Nick, after all, remember Clive?
Things that irked me: the book was really Americanised - I cringed hard at the use of ‘candy bar wrapper’ in the bonus Freddie chapter (any Brit knows it’s sweet wrapper). Keg stands are an alien and American concept in the U.K., it’s more of a corner shop K-cider and Ring of Fire drinking games situation (or maybe I’m wrong, maybe that’s what rich kids at Oxford do), and many things were just based stereotypes of England. But it’s okay. I don’t think I’m necessarily the target audience for this story; I went into this story as a person who signed a petition to abolish the monarchy, and sees Oxford University as elitist and privileged rather than like Hogwarts. So maybe it’s not for me.
Though the book dragged on for 100 pages too long, and I thought the bonus chapter was unnecessary, I actually enjoyed reading the book as a part of mindless fun, and to be whisked away on celebrity club nights and days at the royal ascot. Chick-lit and YA romance are my guilty pleasures, and The Royal We satisfied that spot exactly for me.

Nearly two years after Downton Abbey finally heaved itself to a climax, I find Joanne Froggatt sitting in a hotel lobby bar in London ordering a dirty martini with two olives in it and extra brine. It’s 5.20pm, but she’s “had a bit of a week”, so I order one as well and begin sizing up television’s most clandestine superstar. Let’s not forget Downton was a hit in 220 territories worldwide, with episodes regularly pulling in 120m viewers. Froggatt was the only non-Maggie Smith cast member to pick up a Golden Globe, for her extraordinary work in series 4, when her character, Anna Bates, a lady’s maid, was raped by a visiting valet. The storyline so shocked the doilies-and-teapot brigade who made up the show’s core fans that it became front-page news. Now she is set to fire up the national debate all over again.
Tomorrow, Froggatt, 37, will reclaim her crown as queen of ITV drama with Liar. The six-part series is a thorny, modern he said/she said mystery, in which Froggatt plays a woman who claims she was date-raped after a nice first-date meal that ended up with a second glass of wine at her house.
Froggatt is in fantastic everywoman mode — her character, a teacher with a history of light mental illness. Meanwhile, in a shrewd bit of casting, Ioan Gruffudd (Prince Charming incarnate) plays the seemingly lovely surgeon she accuses. By the end of episode 1, I had both shed a tear watching her endure the brutal formalities of the rape kit (they used a real nurse instead of an actor for the scene), yet couldn’t shake the feeling she had made the whole thing up.
So, stand by your water coolers — buzz is through the roof, not least because it’s been written by the brothers Harry and Jack Williams (The Missing) and promises a big reveal. Froggatt is giving nothing away. She has another sip of her cocktail and wryly points out that, either way, it’s “another victim” for her CV. Fair point. Alongside Suranne Jones and Vicky McClure, she makes up a holy trinity of British actresses who have mastered small-screen misery. But while her peers look as though they can give as good as they get, there is something disconcertingly fragile about Froggatt. Partly, it’s her size — 5ft 2in and sparrow thin. Partly, it’s how normal she seems. The daughter of northern shopkeepers, there’s no Rada-induced sense of entitlement, and certainly no luvvie waffle with her. She lives in a small town in the home counties with a husband she met at the pub.
I wonder if the fact she has both feet squarely in reality is what makes her performances so devastating? She causes not one flicker of recognition in the bar. I could barely pick her out myself, even though we’ve met a couple of times before. I last saw her in LA, a few weeks after the final Downton Abbey aired, when she was full of trepidation. Was it hard watching the others — Dan Stevens, Jessica Brown Findlay — leave the show early and get big film careers? “You always wonder, don’t you, but I think I made the right decision for me. We were contracted for three series to start with, then they asked for four and five ...” She hadn’t felt series 3 had been particularly great for Anna, so she stuck it out and the following year Anna’s rape story became worldwide news.
Despite 244 complaints to Ofcom (and 200 more to ITV), she is very proud that the world’s favourite chocolate-box period drama dared to tackle the subject. Far from being sensationalist, sexual assault was rife for women in service, she points out. But with Liar, we are firmly in the now — where modern gender politics, social media and untraceable date-rape drugs can put a question mark over who the victim even is. “It brings home the point of how difficult it is to prove any given situation when it’s one person’s word against another,” she says. “Or the way my character just posts everything online and you go, ‘Oh God, no, don’t do that!” When I read the first script, I really didn’t know who was telling the truth.”
Did she bring her personal feminist take to the issues? “Absolutely. Of course I have strong opinions about it, although I’m not sure I can voice them right now,” she says, keen to leave jeopardy there for viewers. “One thing I will say is that, with any sensitive issue, it’s all about education. I can’t imagine anyone, having watched the first episode, not having a discussion about it.”
It can’t have been easy filming the post-assault examination. “Yeah,” she says, and takes another sip. “That day, James [Strong, the director] did shoot it in a documentary-style way. I was kept away from everybody else and we didn’t rehearse it.” The real-life nurse went about it as she would any other case, telling her to put her underwear in a plastic bag, swabbing her mouth and nails. “She had never met me before and I had never met her. I just came in and she had to react to me like she would on a normal day at work, while I just got followed by the camera. It was brilliant.”
Growing up, she was “quite determined — though I wasn’t always the most confident child”. Her father had a confectionery warehouse and a mini supermarket in Scarborough, but when that proved slim pickings the family moved to a farm outside Whitby, although he later retrained as a local civil servant with the police while her mother became a government trainer. “My brother and I have both learnt a very strong work ethic from our parents.” Her ambition — and make no mistake, Froggatt is madly ambitious — is all her own, however. Weaned on old films in the front room, she was adamant she was going to become a star from the age of five. “I’d heard about The Stage newspaper, so used to get my local newsagent to order it in for me especially. That’s where I got the idea for stage school. I think my parents were hoping I’d be a vet.”
She sent off for all the prospectuses and settled on Redroofs, all the way in Berkshire (and where a young Kate Winslet was then a pupil). On the open day, her mother’s “heart sank” when she saw how happy Jo was running around with all the other girls. It sank further when she got in. “I remember opening the letter with my parents. Mum and Dad were still in bed, and I could see their faces go, ‘Oh God.’ ”
“They couldn’t afford to pay for the school fees and the boarding fees, so it was a matter of contacting the council.” There were no grants for kids her age, but they asked her to go in for an audition and amazingly gave her a grant to cover the school fees. “The whole process took about 2½ years” — which tells you everything you need to know about her tenacity. “I was 13, nearly 14, so I spent my last two years of school there.”
She hated it at first. “I hadn’t realised how strong my accent was,” she says of her (still) long vowel sounds. “Like, ‘Nooo’ and ‘Jooo’.” She felt incredibly homesick. But half a term in she was settled, and still counts her best friends as the girls from her year. “I’m back living in the same sort of area that I was at school, we all see each other all of the time. I’m godmother to their children, and that’s how I met my husband. I was out with friends from school and met him in a bar.” Someone took a photo of them the night they met, which is now in a frame at home. He’s in IT and often works remotely, so he can follow her about. I suppose they might like children of their own at some point, but for now the vodka martini speaks for itself.
Anyway, she left school at 16 and ended up working in WHSmiths back up north. But she still had plenty of hustle and got auditions for The Bill and Coronation Street in quick succession. She starred in the latter as the teenage mum Zoe Tattersall until 1998. She became an industry darling, wowing at the Old Vic and playing Myra Hindley’s sister in the 2006 TV drama See No Evil — but it took 12 years after leaving Corrie for her to become a household name, thanks to the double whammy of In Our Name (a brilliant low-budget film about a female soldier with PTSD, which won her a British Independent Film award) and, of course, Downton Abbey.
There’s still endless talk of a Downton film. “We all want to do it, it’s just getting our schedules together,” she says. But it’s hard not to imagine how a career must always feel a little on the slide after such a big hit. Never count Froggatt out, though. She’s still as determined as ever. “Yeah, I’m quite impatient. I loved Anna Bates, loved her, but I didn’t want to play another nice housemaid after that. I get bored really easily,” she says, picking up her glass and looking me straight in the eye. A second later, the cocktail is gone.
Liar begins on ITV tomorrow at 9pm

ADRIAN TREVOR, our TOM HARDY fc is looking for a ARMY SQUAD / THREE TO FOUR PEOPLE connection who look like JON HAMM, MATT DAVIS, EVANGELINE LILLY, RASHIDA JONES / UP TO PLAYER who are 30+ YEARS OLD. you DON’T have to contact prior to applying. ( adrian was in the british army from ages seventeen to twenty six, when a serious injury brought his honorable career to a sudden end. he was the only survivor of a landmine related explosion, and a few of his friends died that day - but some of the people he was closest to survived, and i’d love for him to have their friendship, even now. they would have known him at his happiest and most put together, and have been witness to just how badly he fell apart when it was all said and done, and there’s just.. something really lovely to me in the idea of him clinging to their friendship more than he clings to any sort of relationship like that. ) ( vidar björk-thorson / 2-3 more )
familial.
ADRIAN & THEORA TREVOR, our TOM HARDY & KATE SIEGEL fcs are looking for their OLDER SIBLING who looks like BRADLEY COOPER, SKEET ULRICH, JONATHAN RHYS MEYERS, ALEXANDER SKARSGARD, AMY ACKER, WINONA RYDER, JENNIFER GARNER / ANY FC and is OVER 37. you DON'T have to contact prior to applying, though you CAN if you'd like at FIIDELIS or WVTCHFUL. ( the firstborn ! the way we see it, there's two ways to play it, and both are probably just as fun! option one is, they're only a few years older than the twins. after steve returned to life - john mulaney vc hooray! - he settled down for the quiet life, and diana continued to do her hero thing. somewhere in between of life, they had their own small family, and this would be their firstborn. they grew up alongside the twins in london, and probably had to deal with.... a lot, like the stage their little sister went thru where she stanned mom EXTRA HARD, and the time that their little bro went to the english equivalent of juvie. once they were in the latter teen years / had aged up to adult, all the kids kinda went their own ways - following their various dreams and whatnot until all roads led to here. but they were all VERY close growing up - understandably - and depending on how things have played out for them, they still stand a shot of being now! option two, while less fleshed out, could be that the eldest kid is actually from the first shot that steve and diana had at their relationship - conceived before steve died prior to the end of world war one, and still alive now because of inherited amazonian powers. they'd be... much older than adrian and theora in that case, but depending on how it's played, they could still totally have been close! maybe they spent an extended period in london w them, both to get close to steve and to know their sibs! maybe they just tried to make that a priority! who's ! to ! say!
)ADRIAN & THEORA TREVOR, our TOM HARDY & KATE SIEGEL fcs are looking for their YOUNGER SIBLING who looks like MANDY MOORE, RACHEL BILSON, SERINDA SWAN, TYE SHERIDAN, MAX IRONS, DANIEL SHARMAN / ANY FC and ANY AGE / PREFERABLY OVER 25. ( okay! this connect is for the youngest of the bunch, and boy oh boy... what freedom there is. the only thing ENTIRELY set is that, like the twins and the elder sib - if option one of that connect is followed thru - they were born and raised in london, where steve settled down to have the wholesome fam life while diana continued hero-ing. like ALL the sibs, in their later teen years / adulthood, they went their own way and did their own thing - totally up to YOU where that brought them and what was going on in their life - but... all roads lead, x2, and here they are. we totally can't speak for the yet unpicked up older sib, but adrian and theora are both... wildly loyal individuals who care about and love their fam more than absolutely anything, so while they got the younger sib treatment from their older sib, they gave it, x2, when it came to this one. they would have been so, so loved - and honestly? very close, at least up until a certain point. everyone in the family eventually drifted, but that doesn't mean that the love has ever waned, or that the twins' over protectiveness of them has ever stopped. cos it hasn't. they love them more than words can say, and would probably be THRILLED to have them here. in fairness its probably the first time they've all been together with no end point in sight in years, the sum of their conversations probably over way too many skype calls and text messages up until now. we'd love to have them! small explanation for the 'preferably over 25'. steve and diana are kinda?? the perfect family for chars on the 'older' end of the spectrum, and we kinda love the idea of all the kids being actual adults™ at this stage, especially since the rest of the siblings are all in their mid thirties plus. )
GRÁINNE CASSIDY, our SOPHIE RUNDLE fc is looking for her SIBLINGS / TWO OLDER, TWO YOUNGER who look like FINN COLE, OLIVIA COOKE, CILLIAN MURPHY, EMILY BROWNING, DOUGLAS BOOTH / ANY FACE CLAIM who are anything from 20-40 YEARS OLD. you DON’T have to contact prior to applying. ( do u want to play a member of a crime fam, but ur not sure which to pick? do u want to play an irish char, but dont know what to do? if the answer is yes to the first and no to the second, but ur ok with settling, then boy o boy do i have the crime fam for you ! mutant on their fathers side and mobster on their mothers, the cassidy-sullivan’s are honestly… p hot, if i say so myself. their matriarch was left the only member of the fam after they were wiped out in gotham about ten years ago, and now they’re all getting older, the kids are restarting that specific fam business. i love the idea of them all having like… conflicting ideals, conflicting ideas for their fam, conflicting LIVES. gráinne fancies herself the head of the family right now, and at least for the minute is continuing their loyalty to the falcone’s. her sibs could want to challenge her… could be happy working alongside her… could mayb not even wanna be apart of the family - it’s honestly up to YOU ! )
MAKENA THURMAN, our ZOE KRAVITZ fc is looking for her ADOPTIVE SISTER / HOPE SUMMERS connection who looks like KIMIKO GLENN, ALISON SUDOL, RILEY KEOGH, DEMET OZDEMIR / ANY FC who is 26+ YEARS OLD. you DON’T have to contact prior to applying. ( i also play hope’s “grandmother”, jean, but i mostly just !! really want kena’s fave and most badass big sis !! )
NIKKI BARTON, our PHOEBE TONKIN fc is looking for her ALMOST FOSTER PARENT / CANON OR OTHERWISE who looks like PLAYERS CHOICE and is  PARENT AGED. you DON’T have to contact prior to applying. ( right after her mom died and before her dad TECHNICALLY kidnapped her, nikki bounced from foster home to foster home a lot over a period of about three years. they most all ended badly, but there was one - the one right at the end, the one she left when her dad came back - that stuck with her, because a part of her was… sort of hoping they would want to keep her forever. they brought a softness to her that she had been pretty quickly losing, supported her when needed, were strict when they had to be, and have always been a pretty big what if in her life - making the idea of them reappearing and nikki encountering them at this point in her messy life… really interesting to me. )
NORA LANCE-QUEEN, our JOSEFINE FRIDA PETTERSEN fc is looking for her MOTHER / DINAH LAUREL LANCE who looks like ( SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR, CHRISTINA HENDRICKS, ADRIANNA PALICKI, DIANE KRUGER, MICHELLE PFEIFFER / ANY FC ) who is  MOM YEARS OLD. you DON’T have to contact prior to applying. ( nora is embarking on a new char arc that’s basically.. going to lead into her becoming a vigilante, smth she never rly wanted before now, and def like.. laying groundwork for her to Someday, whenever dinah steps down, mayhaps taking on the black canary mantle. she loves her dad, but she STANS her mom, so..pls )
NORA LANCE-QUEEN, our JOSEFINE FRIDA PETTERSEN fc is looking for her  FATHER / OLIVER QUEEN who looks like NIKOLAJ COSTER WALDAU, CHARLIE HUNNAM, MATT CZURCHY, RYAN GOSLING / ANY FC  who is DAD YEARS OLD. you DON’T have to contact prior to applying. ( oliver queen may have his - many - faults, but nora was honestly… always sort of a daddy’s girl, and that’s an unfortunate trait she may never rly lose. pls bring green arrow dad. i can’t offer much, but i can give u all the angst u could want. )
NORA LANCE-QUEEN, our JOSEFINE FRIDA PETTERSEN fc is looking for her TWO OLDER SIBLINGS who look like  BRIE LARSON, TOBY REGBO, CANDICE ACCOLA, DANIEL SHARMAN / ANY FC  who is 25+ YEARS OLD . you DON’T  have to contact prior to applying. ( it is honestly… one of my many dreams for nora to have a couple older sibs that she’s actually, like. u know. pretty close to! im not saying it couldnt go the other way bc ofc that’s just as interesting to explore, but im.. big hoe for the idea of three sibs standing shoulder to shoulder against the world and everything it may throw at them. )
RAMONA DARKHOLME, our MADCHEN AMICK fc is looking for her ELDEST CHILD ( MUST HAVE NAME BEGINNING WITH R ) connection who looks like WILLIAM MOSELEY, LILY JAMES, TOBY REGBO, WILLA FITZGERALD, DOUGLAS BOOTH, IMOGEN POOTS / ANY FC who is 30-35 YEARS OLD. you DO have to contact prior to applying at OFDARKHOLMES or DISCORD ( jean grey rail me challenge#5427 ). ( ok … hear me out. mayb im wrong. mayb im right. but i think… that romy having a kid that’s on the older end of the spectrum could b pretty fun, and i have … a whole sort of. concept for them. so. back in the early years of her relationship with her baby daddy ( he is an npc named abe ), and back when she was… very young, and VERY committed to the brotherhood cause - there came to be an accident. one that was loved, don’t get me wrong, but an accident nonetheless. at that point, romy… couldn’t care for a kid. she just wasn’t prepared for one, and it kind of parralells what happened roughly ten years later, in my mind - one child she knew she wasn’t prepped for and gave up for that very reason, and two that she could have given the world to but had to give up because the world said no. but here’s the CONCEPT ; i’d love if they could have been raised by raven, and if romy… was still in their life, as they grew. moreso than that, i’d love if they were past the awkward stage of “oh, so, i’m ur mom”, or at least… both on the same page about that, and think it could be a super neat dynamic if they had kind of gone from… mother / child to older sister / younger sister cookie cutout relationships to something more friendly. i’m essentially flying by the seat of my pants, here, and i can be talked into ANYTHING ( ask my friends, they’ll tell you ), but i’d love to have… a cute lil romy darkholme / darkholme extended fam , ok. pls. allow this to b a thing. ur grandmom / mayb adoptive mom is raven and ur grandfather is logan FOR CRYING OUT LOUD )
TRIXIE ESPINOZA, our CHRISTIAN SERRATOS fc is looking for her FATHERS / DAN ESPINOZA & LUCIFER MORNINGSTAR who look like JAY HERNANDEZ, ALFONSO HERRERA, GABRIEL LUNA, ANY MEXICAN FC ( DAN ) / DIEGO LUNA, RICKY WHITTLE, TOM ELLIS, ANY FC ( LUCIFER ) who are 40+ ( DAN ) & 1000+ ( LUCIFER ) YEARS OLD. you DON’T have to contact prior to applying. ( healthy coparents, unite !! chloe and dan are two of lapd’s best and brightest, and trix loves her parents so much - but she ALSO loves her stepfather, lucifer, and he’s 100% on the same level in her mind as her birth parents. )
TRIXIE ESPINOZA, our CHRISTIAN SERRATOS fc is looking for her MOTHER / CHLOE DECKER who looks like LAUREN GERMAN, VERA FARMIGA, WINONA RYDER, SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR, AMY ACKER, PLAYERS CHOICE who is  40+ YEARS OLD. you DON’T have to contact prior to applying. ( if u have seen lucifer, then u already have a pretty good idea of trixie’s dynamic with her mom! her dad is great and all, but… chloe was the one who was REALLY there for her, ya know? i kinda had it hced that chloe is now with lucifer cause that’s how the show was heading to and i didn’t imagine anyone snagging anymore lucifer chars, but i’m! definitely open to changing that! just gimme her mom pls! )
VICTORIA CREED, our STELLA MAEVE fc is looking for a “HALF-SIBLING” / COUSIN connection who looks like DJ COTRONA, JASON RALPH, KATIE CASSIDY, TINASHE, ANTHONY RAMOS, PLAYERS CHOICE who is ANY AGE / PREFERABLY 26+. you DON’T have to contact prior to applying. ( so. yall best know yall can do what yall WANT, its just.. originally when i played vicki i had a wc for a “half-brother”, and i was thinking about it recently and think it could be… kinda fun. SO. this is for a kid of victor creed - either.. biologically, or another one that he just kinda . stole - that vicki actually knew during certain points of her life, because for the most part, she was pretty isolated. for whatever reason - maybe he just wanted someone to keep an eye on his investment or whatever - victor allowed these two to interact a bit more, and depending on how they were to one another, i feel that a certain loyalty definitely could have developed between them. vicki got fucked over a couple times and left in, like, japan for 9 months and a yemen prison for another six and incidents like that have dotted her life, but im kinda thinking this “half-sibling” could have been the one who.. helped her out, or was stuck there alongside her. gimme! )
ZIVA MIZRAHI, our INBAR LAVI fc is looking for her HALF BROTHER connection who looks like SHILOH FERNANDEZ, JUSTIN BALDONI, JULIAN MORRIS, JUSSIE SMOLLETT, XAVIER DOLAN / UP TO PLAYER ( tho the named are preferred ) who is 30+. you DO have to contact prior to applying at SICVIITAEST or DISCORD ( jean grey rail me challenge#5427 ). ( things to know: they were both born in tel aviv, israel, and they share the same father - an oc named joseph, who is now dead. neither of ziva’s birth parents were good people, but what his mother was like and what happened to her is up to you. they were raised together, however briefly, before they were separated - ziva was seven, and he was either a small bit younger or older. both of them were experimented upon, though like prev, it’s really up to you whether or not that resulted in any sort of enhancements. she became a ward of shield, and where he ended up is completely up to you - just like his personality and whatnot, though i’ll admit straight up that the main reason i’m looking for him and the main reason i waNT him is cause i would love… for him to b a drumroll, please - villain. w her being raised to be a hero and him being raised the opposite it would create a rly [ forgive my choice of phrase ] hot contrast, and make them.. two sides of a literally same coin. it would also b. pretty fun to explore both of their feelings, and both of their motivations - would ziva want to try and see him better? would he want her to join him/think more on his side of things? would it instead take the turn of her wanting to b the one to take him down, or vice versa, and would either b capable of that? it’s fun to imagine so ! do the thing ! )
romantic.
ADRIAN TREVOR, our TOM HARDY fc is looking for an EX-FLING / MOTHER OF HIS CHILD connection who looks like EVA GREEN, MILA KUNIS, EVA LONGORIA, HOLLY MARIE COMBS who is 30+ YEARS OLD. you DO have to contact prior to applying at FIIDELIS. ( so! i won’t go into everything about this one here cause i wanna try keep it short, but basically… they were on and off and never really an official item for years - way back to when he was still in the army, meeting up and having relations whenever he was home / free for a while - and were… complete opposites. on the surface, it seemed as if she was the sweet and innocent angel, and he was this rough geezer. in actuality, SHE’S kinda cold hearted - in the best of ways - and he’s the softie, but… not many people rly knew that truth. anyway, they came to an end right around the time he got into his short lived relationship + marriage, and he always thought of her as a big “what if”… right up to last year when he discovered that after they had ended, she had moved to the states and had his son. the kid is seven now, and she never told him for obvious reasons, but he’s here only to try and make something work - he never WANTED to have a kid, but he’s not going to deny him now he knows. we can talk out p much everything, but ! yeah ! )
RAMONA DARKHOLME, our MADCHEN AMICK fc is looking for her EX-FLINGS / MAX. FOUR who look like WINONA RYDER, SOFIA VERGARA, PEDRO PASCAL, HUGH DANCY / UP TO PLAYER and are 35+ YEARS OLD. you DON’T have to contact prior to applying. ( romy might have lost the love of her life, but she did not lose her sex drive. i’m sure there’s a better way i could have worded that, but… whatever. over the years since her fiance passed, romy has tried many times to move on - and that means she has quite a few exes scattered about the place, all of whom she has a different dynamic with. like any ex / current fling connect, i’m most interested in discussing how it started and all with people who want to do it, cause i think that’s the best way of making unique dynamics! )
other.
ADRIAN TREVOR, our TOM HARDY fc is looking for a NEW BOSS / ANYONE WHO WORKS connection who looks like UP TO PLAYER and is 30+ YEARS OLD. you DON’T have to contact prior to applying. ( right now, adrian’s main job is pouring coffee for millennials at starbucks. he’s ex-army and current gang, and he’s really not got that much going for him - but it’d be nice, if there was someone out there in a better place, job wise, willing to give him a shot. he needs to get that bread! )
ADRIAN TREVOR, our TOM HARDY fc is looking for a NEW BOSS x2 / ANY PRESS ADJACENT CHARACTER WHO WORKS connection who looks like UP TO PLAYER who is 30+ YEARS OLD. you DON’T have to contact prior to applying. ( can you tell that i literally… do not know what to refer to this connection as? lmao. anyway he’s an independent journalist - who writes things on like… avocado recipes and shit for whoever will hire him at a time - and i’m not sure on the newspaper / general press situation here, but i’d love for someone to read his writing and take him on as some sort of regular reporter. i imagine it would remain secondary to his “main” job if only because he really needs to keep himself afloat here, but over time, i’d love to see him succeed and actually become the journalist who writes about relevant things that he’s always dreamt of being. )
EMMA FROST, our AMBER HEARD fc is looking for her HELLFIRE CLUB INNER CIRCLE / MAX. FIVE who look like ANY FC and are 30+ YEARS OLD. you DO have to contact prior to applying at WHIITEQUEENS or DISCORD. ( out with the old, in with the new. after emma’s hellfire club takeover, the old inner circle was removed, and she’s now formed her own out of members she trusts. they’d have neat titles all sourced from a chess board, and that, plus how they met / what their connection to emma would be because they would def have one is mostly why i’m making it a contact thing cos ! i’d like for us to smooth those details out! )
EMMA FROST, our AMBER HEARD fc is looking for her SECRETARY & PERSONAL ASSISTANT’S / MAX. TWO who look like ANY FC and are 25+ YEARS OLD. you DON’T have to contact prior to applying. ( emma runs frost international, a multi-billion dollar company that deals mostly in transportation, but has started to branch out into electronics. its a full time thing and she actually… doesn’t spend all her time on it, because she’s also dedicated to remaining an active professor and is splitting time between everything. she does it quite well i’d like to imagine, but she definitely needs the added help, and that would be these chars! bonus points if they’re mutants! )
GRÁINNE CASSIDY, our SOPHIE RUNDLE fc is looking for the FAMILY OF HER DECEASED SPOUSE connection who look like ANY FACE CLAIMS and are ANY AGE. you DON’T have to contact prior to applying. ( gráinne married at twenty six to the self professed love of her young life - someone who was better than her, who may or may not have known the full extent of the cassidy-sullivan crime families activities, but who loved her back, regardless of all else. theirs was a whirlwind romance - they had known each other before, surely, but had gotten ahead of themselves quickly once together - begun in spring and married in winter ; and when the leaves began to turn once more, and new life began to bloom, gráinne’s love was taken from her. it was her fault. whether they died for her or died because of her, details can be smoothed out, but the blame rests on only one woman’s shoulders, and their family surely KNOWS. give her people who resent that she exists. people who can’t understand why a light of their lives was extinguished, while gráinne cassidy gets to continue. give her people who can fuel her own feelings of responsibility. )
MAKENA THURMAN, our ZOE KRAVITZ fc is looking for a BOSS connection who look like JASON MOMOA and is 30+ YEARS OLD. you DON’T have to contact prior to applying. ( kena works at the karma klub as an accountant and booking agent, and i’d ! love for her manager / owner of the klub / honestly… whatever tf / to be a jason momoa face, just because… their pics are supes cute and i think it’d be really sweet if kena had this older guy in her life who’s almost, like… someone guiding her? they’re in the scene longer than her, they can provide some tips and tricks, and just past the job aspect.. neither of her parents are here, so it would be nice for her to have someone who can sort of step into that role and be someone who she has learnt to be able to go to and confide in, when needed. )
MAKENA THURMAN, our ZOE KRAVITZ fc is looking for her EX HOUSEMATE connection who looks like PIPPA SOO, ALFIE ENOCH, HAYLEY LAW, JOHN BOYEGA / UTP who is 25+. you DON’T have to contact prior to applying. ( in the years before her daughter was born, makena wasn’t always the most stable of people. she’s also never exactly been the WORST, but… she’s always had a lot of issues with keeping her emotions in check, and she used to be horribly selfish and petty, at the worst of times. after becoming friends in college, she and this character decided to get an apartment together and split the costs - but after a few months of this, shit hit the fan, and kena fucked up in a way that she couldn’t go back from, resulting in them kicking her out. they’ve barely spoken since, and she harbors.. a lot of resentment, for that fateful event. )
NIKKI BARTON, our PHOEBE TONKIN fc is looking for a EX-CLIENTS connection who looks like UP TO PLAYER who is ANY AGE you DON’T have to contact prior to applying. ( i’m gonna keep this one a little vague, cause.. i wanna leave it open to multiple people, and i think every single one of those could have a different sort of dynamic with her. nikki used to work as a drugrunner for a major dealer named callum. he was, for want of a better description - an abusive piece of shit, and he continued to be that right up until nikki killed him in self defense. HOWEVER, before he died and she got carted off to jail, nikki used to do a lot of jobs for him, and they led her across states. she would have rubbed shoulders with a lot of not so great people, but also some kinda ok ones. some might have heard what happened, others won’t and might be kinda confused about what the FUCK happened to their supply, but either way.. i want. also. callum coulda had some other helpers. idk. i just want it ALL. ) ( bea zsasz & others )
RAMONA DARKHOLME & ABRAHAM MUELLER, our MADCHEN AMICK fc is looking for their EX-BROTHERHOOD GROUP MEMBERS connection who look like WINONA RYDER, PEDRO PASCAL, JADA PINKETT SMITH, ANGELA BASSETT, HALLY BERRY, NORMAN REEDUS, KEANU REEVES / PLAYERS CHOICE, MUST BE 40+ THO who are 45+ YEARS OLD. you DON’T have to contact prior to applying. ( any of them can maybe be kids of canons, depending ON the canon?? anyway. all of them - preferably about.. five, ig - are surviving members of the brotherhood group that romy ran, some nineteen years ago. they all worked together for YEARS, moving around europe a lot but spending some time settled in rural germany, which was ultimately where their particular crusade seemed to come to an end. intolerant humans attacked them, most were killed, and those that ran were assumed dead / assumed they were the only survivors, pretty much ‘til now. romy back means they’re probably gonna maybe want to restart what they were doing before, and this connection could rly go.. any way. maybe romy - ran into one of them at some point in the past, and relieved they were alive, kept in contact to call them someday, leading to their reunion now. maybe they’ve seen a familiar name in the paper, or on the paragon website. maybe this is just where the wind has blown them. i lov the idea of this squad, ‘kay, cos.. they spent a chunk of their time together, and for romy, they were less friends more #fam )
TRIXIE ESPINOZA, our CHRISTIAN SERRATOS fc is looking for LUCIFER CANONS / MAZIKEEN, AMENADIEL, LINDA MARTIN, ELLA LOPEZ, CHARLOTTE RICHARDS who look like LESLEY-ANN BRANDT ( MAZE ) / DB WOODSIDE, IDRIS ELBA, ANY BLACK MALE ( AMENADIEL ) / RACHAEL HARRIS, RACHAEL TAYLOR, KRISTEN BELL, ANY FC ( LINDA ) / AIMEE GARCIA, MARIA LAAS, EVA LONGORIA, ANY MEXICAN OR PUERTO RICAN FC ( ELLA ) / TRICIA HELFER, JAMEELA JAMIL, CONSTANCE WU, ANY FC ( CHARLOTTE ) who are ANY AGE. you DON’T have to contact prior to applying. ( considering just how interlocked everyone has become on the show, between… maze and linda and amenadiel, ella working with everyone, charlotte being with dan, etc - i like to kinda imagine… they’re all a huge, vaguely blessed family. it would b nice not to b the only lucifer canon rocking around the place ! )
TRIXIE ESPINOZA, our CHRISTIAN SERRATOS fc is looking for ILLEGAL PATIENTS who look like UP TO PLAYER and are ANY AGE. you DON’T have to contact prior to applying. ( trix is a med student, and she does a lot of work at the local hospital - but i also imagine that over the last few years, she’s sort of made a name for herself in the lowkey sense as someone who’s willing to treat patients out of hours / out of the hospital / etc on the downlow. if your character is a vigilante / hero / villain / etc, who sometimes gets themselves fuckt up and doesn’t want to make the big deal it could be by getting treated officially… hit her up ! she’ll fix you up for free, and she’ll do it discreetly. )
TRIXIE ESPINOZA, our CHRISTIAN SERRATOS fc is looking for MORTUARY COWORKERS who look like UP TO PLAYER and are ANY AGE. you DON’T have to contact prior to applying. ( so !! trixie currently works at the local morgue, and as of right now… i think she’s the only one who does? and i’d love for her to have some coworkers there, cause it’s obviously such a heavy job, and i think… while it doesn’t phase trix, it would still be nice for her to have people who can relate to how TOUGH it can be sometimes, and who she can kind of have developed a little something something with. )
VICTORIA CREED, our STELLA MAEVE fc is looking for VICTIMS who look like UP TO PLAYER and are ANY AGE. you DON’T have to contact prior to applying. ( twenty six years spent being little more than another weapon in victor creed’s hands means that victoria has… a lot of blood on her hands. i dare say that none of it is blood she wanted to spill, but the fact remains that she never really knew enough torefuse. she’s done a lot of things she’s not proud of, and she’s hurt a lot of people - meaning she’s going to be spending a great deal of her very long life trying, in vain, to make amends in some way. i want for her to encounter people who she’s hurt. either directly, or that… she hurt their family or distant family before alongside victor, and either she recognizes them and seeks them out, or they recognize her and seek her out. give her people who shout and scream about what she’s done, and people who can’t believe she’s being allowed walk around and keep on living. give her people who know she was just another victim of a psychopath, who could maybe give her something she’s never had before - forgiveness - and make her feel a way she’s also… never felt before. give her all sorts of connections under this heading bc i think it’s unrealistic if she has none. )
ZIVA MIZRAHI, our INBAR LAVI fc is looking for her SENIOR AGENTS SHE SPENT TIME WITH GROWING UP / LIMITLESS connection who look like UTP and who are 28+ YEARS OLD. you DON’T have to contact prior to applying. ( ziva basically lived at headquarters from the time she was brought in - age six - to now, and while nick and natasha were her primary caregivers, she was often shuttled between different agents during down periods or whatnot. basically, if she for some reason couldn’t stay at shield itself, or there was a holiday - like thanksgiving, christmas, easter, her birthday - coming up, she’d be taken in briefly by a senior agent or their family and given a place to stay for a bit before such a time as she returned. )
ZIVA MIZRAHI, our INBAR LAVI fc is looking for her PERSON SELLING SHIELD INTEL connection who looks like UTP and who is ANY AGE. you DON’T have to contact prior to applying. ( they would be a shield agent, but what separates them from most is for whatever reason - be it nefarious or something closer in line with money troubles - they’ve been selling information on shield to the highest bidder. five years ago, ziva was sent on a mission with a handful of agents she had never really worked with before, and because of information that they gave - and the fact that they, or another, heavily implied that because of her shield upbringing ziva would be the one with the most intel on that team - the mission was compromised from the get go, and while ziva was captured, everyone else was wiped out. she suffered over a year at the hands of her captors and meanwhile, everyone back home fully believed that she was dead. what they did could weigh on them, or it might not. if it’s a case of something more innocent whereby they’ve needed the money gained from selling secrets, it could even be that they didn’t realize that the info they were giving was going to lead that particular buyer where it did. again, if not, it could be because they have a grudge against ziva for some reason we can talk out or smth. i’m v much into the idea of this and ! would love for it to b taken ! so pls ! do the thing ! )

EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: Esther Freud and David Morrissey split
Actor David Morrissey and novelist wife Esther Freud has announced their separation after 13 year together
With his brooding good looks and her fascinating family history, actor David Morrissey and novelist Esther Freud were one of society’s most celebrated showbusiness couples.
So I am sad to report that the couple, who met at drama school 26 years ago, have separated. They had been married 13 years.
‘It’s a great shame, but they just couldn’t make it work any longer,’ one of their many friends tells me. ‘They are making sure that the interests of their three children come first.’
The couple, who shared a house in Hampstead, are now living separately in North London.
As recently as last year, Esther, who is the 55-year-old daughter of late artist Lucian Freud, was talking affectionately in interviews about Morrissey, 54, the star of television dramas including The Walking Dead and The Deal, in which he played Gordon Brown.
Morrissey, who has been hailed as one of the most talented actors of his generation, did, though, highlight the great differences in their backgrounds. While he is the son of a Liverpudlian cobbler and a mother who worked for Littlewoods, Esther’s bohemian childhood formed the basis of her acclaimed novel Hideous Kinky, which was turned into a 1998 film starring Kate Winslet.

The great-granddaughter of the founder of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud, Esther is one of Lucian Freud’s 14 children. Her mother is the writer and gardener Bernardine Coverley.
Morrissey has credited Esther with helping to teach him self-discipline.
‘Suddenly,’ he said, ‘I was with someone who imposed a work structure upon themselves.
‘There we were, we’d just met and fallen in love and suddenly, even in my own flat, I was outside my bedroom waiting for two o’clock so I could go in and kiss her.’
Freud and Morrissey declined to comment.
The smart set’s talking about… The Sultan of Brunei’s party-loving prince
As the international outcry intensifies against the Sultan of Brunei after his decree that gay men in his country are to be stoned to death, spare a thought for his exuberant son, Prince Azim.
The party-loving prince — one of the Sultan’s four children by his second wife, former air hostess Hajah Mariam — would be heartbroken if Brunei became a pariah state.
Blessed with a playful spirit, Prince Azim, 36, is pictured here in characteristic pose at a London party, enjoying the company of Pamela Anderson.
Party-loving Prince Azim, son the highly controversial Sultan of Brunei, is spotted enjoying a night out in London with actress and campaigner Pamela Anderson
While the evergreen Baywatch babe favoured a mask and little black dress crafted from PVC, he opted for snakeskin-effect sheer T-shirt. It was offset by powder-blue feather boas, ripped jeans and a pert top hat with a fan-veil of the sort that milliner Philip Treacy might design for Ladies’ Day at Royal Ascot — plus a key, dangling from his neck.
Azim, who followed his father to Sandhurst but lasted only a week, has a serious side, of course, once designing a unisex suitcase for luxury goods brand MCM.
Described as a chic travel bag, it was, said one report, ‘destined to bring out the princess within’.
The Queen cancelled her visit to Newbury, where she had a runner in the 3.40 yesterday, after the death of one of her best friends, Jeannie, the Dowager Countess of Carnarvon, at the age of 83.
Her Majesty had been due to stay for the weekend with the American-born Countess’s family, who live near Newbury racecourse. Jeannie’s late husband, Porchy, was Her Majesty’s close confidant and racing manager. A lively character, she was played by actress Andrea Deck in TV’s The Crown.
Even last year, she was still doing Pilates at her dower house on her family’s Highclere Castle estate, where Downton Abbey is filmed.
Fleabag’s naughty priest breaks up with boyfriend
As the ‘hot priest’ in BBC hit comedy Fleabag (right), Andrew Scott leaves Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s character desolate at a bus stop.
In real life, he’s nursing his own broken heart. I hear Scott, 42, has split up with his partner of ten years, the actor and writer Stephen Beresford, 47, inset.
They had shared a London home. ‘I live alone now,’ Scott has confirmed. Asked if he had a new companion, he replied: ‘I have a lot of love in my life, but I prefer not to talk about that.’
Previously best known as Benedict Cumberbatch’s antagonist Moriarty in BBC hit Sherlock, Scott has been hailed as the ‘sexiest man on TV’ after his charismatic turn as a Catholic priest who breaks his vows in a fling with Fleabag’s dysfunctional heroine.

If you bump into Dame Vivienne Westwood, who turned 78 this week, best not wish her a happy birthday.
‘I didn’t celebrate,’ the queen of punk-turned-eco-campaigner tells me at a private viewing of Demelza Kids, a show of works by fashion photographer Juergen Teller at Bonhams in Mayfair.
Dame Vivienne Westwood by cartoonist Gary Smith
‘I just stayed at home with my secretary and worked on saving the world. There’s so much to do.
‘I did think it would be nice to go to work — people would like it — but then I don’t like cake or champagne much.’
The eccentric designer, whose clothes are worn by everyone from Theresa May to Angelina Jolie, even banned her husband, Andreas Kronthaler, 67, who now runs her fashion label, from giving her a gift.
‘I don’t need any presents. He gave me a lovely card.’
Now two’s company for Prue
Cookery queen Prue Leith is changing her recipe for a happy marriage.
Until now, twice-married Prue, 79, has extolled the joys of keeping apart.
But the genial Bake Off judge has decided she wants to live with her husband of three years, the retired clothes designer John Playfair, after all.
And she plans to build a new home on her farm in the Cotswolds so he can move in.
Prue Leith plans on converting farm buildings on her Cotswold property so that husband John Playfair can move in
‘The time has come when she and John want to live together, but in a place where they can each have their own quarters,’ one of her friends tells me. ‘They have designed a place themselves, which they are making out of a big old farm building on the land she owns.’
Her agent confirms: ‘Prue and her husband do have plans to convert some redundant farm buildings on her land into a single property.’
‘He lives a mile away from me,’ Prue said, after marrying John, 71.
‘He’s got a lot of stuff and I’m rather anally neat and tidy and I don’t want all that stuff in my house. And he doesn’t want me tidying it up.’
London is to be the scene of a reunion between former U.S. presidents this weekend. I hear that Barack Obama, who is over for his wife Michelle’s talk at the huge 02 Arena tomorrow, is planning to meet up with Bill Clinton, also in the capital with his wife, Hillary.
I wonder if the Obamas will pop into Frogmore Cottage to see their friends Prince Harry and Meghan while they’re here?
Princess Diana would be touched to see how close Prince William has stayed to her old friend Julia Samuel. I hear the Duke of Cambridge asked Julia, a grief counsellor, to be his official representative at the Chelsea memorial service on Thursday for cancer expert Professor Martin Gore, whom William described as an ‘inspiration’. In 2013, William asked Julia to be a godmother to Prince George.
Duchess gives her blessing to Missy’s new man
When Lady Melissa Percy married Thomas van Straubenzee, the ceremony was attended by Princes William and Harry.
Could wedding bells soon be heard again at her family seat, Alnwick Castle, which doubled as Hogwarts in Harry Potter films?
‘Missy’, as the 31-year-old is known to chums, divorced Tom in 2016. And her new romance with American hedge fund boss Remy Trafelet, 48, is going so well that he has already met her parents, the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland. ‘We really love Remy,’ her mother, Jane, tells me at the launch of Tim Bouverie’s book, Appeasing Hitler, at China Exchange in Soho.
‘We’re just happy for them because they both had marriages that didn’t work and they now have a second chance at being happy. I would be happy for them to get married when the time’s right.’
Macca’s boy brings the church down!
With his cherubic cheeks and twinkly smile, James McCartney was the image of his father as he performed a secret gig on Thursday night.
Sir Paul’s 41-year-old son received a standing ovation at Heath Street Baptist Church in London’s Hampstead, where he sang and played guitar and piano at an exhibition by photographer Danny Clifford called Rock Stars Don’t Smile.
One of his most moving songs, Angel, was written around the time of his mother Linda’s death from breast cancer in 1998.
At one point, James joked that he sounded less like his father and more like his fellow Beatle John Lennon.

Has Prince Charles secured a powerful ally in his crusade for alternative medicine?
I ask because the Health Secretary and prime ministerial wannabe, Matt Hancock, made an 800-mile round trip to hold private talks with the heir to the throne on Wednesday at one of his Scottish residences, Dumfries House.
Officials decline to comment on what the two men discussed. But their meeting took place a week after Hancock, 40, spoke at a reception in support of ‘social prescription’ therapies hosted by Charles at Clarence House.
On that occasion, Hancock — whose wife, Martha, is an osteopath — lamented that doctors were ‘dishing out’ too many pills. Music to Charles’s princely ears.
(Very) modern manners
Brexit is a no-go subject at most dinner parties, but imagine what it’s like at Boris Johnson’s family get-togethers.
The Brexiteer MP’s sister, Rachel, is an ardent Remainer. And she tells me: ‘Our house rules are don’t talk about Brexit at meals. If it does [come up], it all goes wrong and my mother sits there crying gently.’
Speaking at an Amnesty International bash at L’Escargot in London’s Soho, Rachel adds: ‘There is a liberal side of the family that is overlooked in the narrative of the Johnsons being this ambitious, power-hungry, blond tribe.’

Page 6: Since the start of his career Justin Timberlake has endured his fair share of scandals but after welcoming his second son with wife Jessica Biel over the summer and celebrating his 40th birthday, he is confessing that he feels immense guilt about the past and he won't be making the same mistakes in the future -- Justin's done some soul-searching and accepts that he's wronged a lot of people over the years with his own terrible mistakes and he says he's still a work in progress, but step one has been to stand up and admit he's hurt too many women -- in addition to a boozy night out with his Palmer costar Alisha Wainwright in 2019 and his part in the now-infamous Nipplegate incident with Janet Jackson at the 2004 Super Bowl, Justin recently came under fire again due to the documentary Framing Britney Spears which showed him exploiting his breakup from Britney Spears to help his solo career -- Justin's learned from his mistakes and has a lot more sensitivity about the impact of his actions on other people and that's the big difference between the Justin of today and his old, immature self and that self-awareness was evident in an emotional statement that he posted apologizing to both Britney and Janet for the errors in his ways -- his words drew praise from his wife Jessica who says he's come a long way as a husband, a father and more importantly, a human being
