Wood Engraving Wednesday
In 1994, Sebastian Carter (b. 1941) of the Rampant Lions Press in England printed a suite of original color wood engravings that the Soviet-era Russian graphic artist Anatoly Ivanovich Kalashnikov (1930-2007) had produced in response to the works of Fyodor Dostoevsky. They were printed for the London publisher Primrose Academy as The Dostoyevsky Suite, with an introduction by the noted jurist, educator. bibliophile, and bookplate collector William Elliott Butler (b 1939) in an edition of 135 copies signed by Butler and Kalashnikov.
Kalishnakov is most well-known for his engravings for postage stamps and bookplates. In his early years, Kalashnikov was deeply steeped in Soviet social realism, but broke with that style in the late 1960s to produce this suite of abstract wood engravings. Butler writes:
Kalashnikov's engravings . . . were deemed to be too subjective and abstract for publication. The engravings appear here for the first time in their proper colours. The technologies available in Moscow never permitted the artist to achieve the full artistic impression which he intended. A small unnumbered edition circulated underground amongst friends. . . . the engravings quietly brought Kalashnikov a formidable reputation in the artistic and literary circles. . . . The engravings were not conceived as illustrations for Dostoyevsky's books. Rather they stand as autonomous graphic expressions inspired by those works. . . .
Our copy is another donation from the estate of our late friend Dennis Bayuzick.

Hope you don’t mind using my OC elliott for this ^^
cw// Oc x canon, tiny bit of blood (bc elliott is a vampire)
⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯
“oh my goodness! darling this is far better than i imagined!” grelle twirls in her beautiful new dress made by her lovely elliott
elliott just smiles, clearly showing how smitten he is, seeing the one he loves in the dress that he made especially for her
“because only the most beautiful and most lovely girl like you can pull off such a dress.” he had an idea popped into his head.
“my dear, could we go to the roof? i want to get a better view on your gorgeous figure in the moonlight.” he held his hand and grelle accepted it.
they went to the roof and the first thing elliott did was facing her directing and kissing her knuckles.
“may i ask for this dance, my lady?” grelle, feeling her heart fluttering from the treatment, giggled. “you may~”
the started to slow dancing across the moonlight. the way the red dress contracts the moonlight yet it makes it so beautiful.
the way it flows along with her beautiful red hair whenever elliott twirls grelle, like a beautiful river stream.
oh the things elliott can list but grelle definitely shines brighter than the sun and moon all together.
elliott grips her waist as he shifts their weight so they can do a dip. grelle was definitely surprised because she held onto elliott’s shoulder for dear life.
elliott shift his head so they can share a kiss. it is one of those soft kiss that lovers share under the moonlight. ones they share before going to bed. ones they share when the lovers are away from other people.
like when the prince kisses his sleeping beauty.
they continue to press soft kisses as elliott shifts up so they are standing again. elliott’s grip around grelle’s waist tighten, as she wrap her arms around his shoulder even more to get closer.
she pokes his lips before nibbling them a bit. elliott huff and pokes back with his fang, before biting it down softly, not enough to hurt her but enough to draw a bit of blood
he took a few sips before pulling away, with smudged lipstick on his lips, licking away the excess blood
grelle just peppers him in kisses, decorating him with more of her lipstick.
“i love you darling~~~ <3”
“i love you too, my princess~”

I can't write but damn can yall imagine having your first kiss with Grell?? Soft lips against yours, her sharp teeth pricking your bottom lip to tease you, your both holding each other so tightly that one of you might pop??? Amazing

The Rest of Our Lives, Part 9
TW: Verbal Abuse, TW: Child Abuse, TW: Racism
Butterscotch and Finn sat next to each other at the dining table quietly. Finn’s back was straightened as he placed a napkin on his lap politely, making sure to keep his elbows off the table, and keeping his utensils in the right place. Meanwhile, Butterscotch was slumped over in his chair, legs comfortably spread, with his elbows rested on the table and utensils not organized.
“Your table manners and posture are absolutely atrocious.” Margaret sneers at Butterscotch in disgust.
“Y’know? Finn said the same thing to me when I had dinner at his house for the first time! Isn’t that right, honey?” Butterscotch chuckles, trying to keep the mood light.
“I don’t think I said “atrocious” though…” Finn giggles softly.
“Same general idea.” Butterscotch shrugged with a smile.
As the couple giggled sweetly, Margaret wasn’t laughing at all. The disgusted scowl never left her face, and her eyes were locked on Butterscotch like he was public enemy number one. Once Butterscotch finally noticed, he stopped laughing and cleared his throat.
The butler gives everyone a plate of spaghetti. It is around then that Margaret’s husband, William, finally comes downstairs and joins everyone at the table. Upon seeing Finn, he glares.
“Ugh. What is he doing here?” William asks rudely.
“I invited him, darling. He won’t be here long.” Margaret responds in a posh, snooty manner.
“I see…and what is that thing…sitting next to him?” William addresses Butterscotch in disgust.
“It’s his…fiance…darling.” Margaret clears her throat. “It won’t be here long either.”
Butterscotch is tense hearing these people refer to him like he’s not a person, but he just takes Finn’s hand. He gives Finn a reassuring look. Finn’s ears are drooped down softly, but he nods at Butterscotch.
“Demon boy. Straighten up. You will not sit at my table with such disgusting posture.” William hisses.
“I’m more comfortable this way.” Butterscotch glares.
“Elliott, sweetie, straighten your back, you’ll hurt yourself.” Finn says softly.
“Oh yes, you’re right. Thank you, Finn.” Butterscotch straightens his back, un-spreads his legs, and puts a napkin in his lap politely.
It is with this one act of disobedience toward Finn’s mother and her husband that he makes it blatantly clear. He does not take orders from them, and the only one he respects here is Finn himself. Finn smirks at his mother proudly. Margaret gives a low growl.
Finn cleans his hands in the little water dish.
“Will my siblings be joining us today, mother?” He asks softly.
“Mary is in Paris, focussing on her acting career, and her family. Helen is probably at her own house right now with her 10th new husband. As for Reginald, he’s at work right now, so he will not be joining us for dinner tonight.” Margaret cleans her hands as well.
“Mary’s an actress, huh? Y’know, Elliott used to be an actor too. Isn’t that right, amour?” Finn smiles at Butterscotch.
“Yeah.” Butterscotch rubs the back of his head in shyness, before cleaning his hands. “It was a long time ago, though.”
“Community theater hardly counts, demon.” Margaret glares.
“Actually, mother! He started in community theater, but he went on to be the main character of one of the most famous cartoon shows of the 30’s! Butterscotch and Friends, it was called. He was one of the biggest Toon Celebrities in Hollywood.” Finn brags, because he knows Butterscotch will be humble.
“Aww, you sound like you want me to be impressed by that! But need I point out the fact that you said ”was”, Phineas? He was…one of the biggest Toon Celebrities. As in not anymore. Besides, I’ve never heard of this “Butterscotch and Friends” you speak of…and if I’ve never heard of it, it must not have been that famous. Also, one TV show? Again…hardly counts. My darling daughter, Mary, has been in dozens of movies, dozens of TV shows, and has won at least 20 awards in the past 5 years. Mary Belmont…you may have heard the name.” Margaret smirks.
“Never heard of her, and if I’ve never heard of her, she must not be that famous.” Butterscotch shrugs, throwing Margaret’s words back at her. Finn tries to hold back his laughter.
Margaret hisses, her pupils turning into slits.
“Probably because you can’t afford cable, or internet! I can tell just by looking at you that you’re poor!” She fires back.
“Margaret, dear. Don’t entertain this ruffian’s weak attempts at insults against our beloved daughter. You’re better than this.” William says to Margaret softly.
“Hmph. You’re right. Well, let’s not sit here and let the food get cold…let us say grace.” Margaret huffs, before putting her hands together in prayer. William follows.
Finn puts his hands together, and looks at Butterscotch with gentle eyes. Butterscotch blinks, then sighs softly before putting his own hands together. Given that he was a demon, he didn’t do these kinds of things typically.
“Dear lord, thank you for this meal we are about to eat. Thank you for my wonderful husband, and my three beautiful children who have grown to live very successful lives. May they keep being successful.” Margaret says grace with her eyes closed, then peeks up at Finn before closing her eyes again. “Also, may you bless my youngest child, Phineas. I understand his birth is the punishment you provided to me for my sins, sins of which I have repented for. However, the boy remains unwell despite my repenting…please show him the light, lest he burn in the fiery pits of hell. Amen.”
“Amen.” William huffs.
Finn’s ears shrink back, but he stays quiet. He separates his hands and quietly eats his spaghetti, neatly twirling the pasta on his fork and taking delicate bites. Butterscotch eats his spaghetti without twirling the noodles at all.
As everyone eats Margaret looks at Butterscotch. “So, Demon Boy-”
“He has a name, mother.” Finn corrects Margaret sternly.
“Oh yes, uh…what was it again? Elliott? What is it you do for a living? Aside from the whole “former actor” thing. All of nothing, I bet…” Margaret asks.
“Oh! Actually, I’m a freelance artist. I’m also an independent musician…” Butterscotch answers honestly.
“Music, huh? Y’know, that’s actually the path I set up for Phineas, here. I mean, I always knew he’d be a failure, but I figured that if he’s going to be around, he might as well make something of himself. So I had him take choir and piano classes…the only good thing I can say about Phineas is that he always was a really good singer and pianist.” Margaret explains. “Too bad that talent has gone to waste…tell me, Phineas. Do you still play piano at all? Or sing?”
“Well…I still know how, but my cottage is a bit too small to have space for a piano, and there’s not exactly any random pianos around anymore. So it’s been a while. As for singing, I actually still sing, quite a lot actually. Elliott and I duet all the time…” Finn explains, rubbing his arm.
“I never knew you played piano…when we move into our new house in Bryson City, we should get one, and you should play for me sometime.” Butterscotch smiles.
“I’d…like that, actually.” Finn smiles gently, taking Butterscotch’s hand.
Margaret glares.
“Your house isn’t even big enough for a piano? What kind of Hobbit Hole are you living in?”
“It’s a cottage, mother…and I love it. When I bought it all those years ago, I did all the renovations myself, and I’ve been happy living there for so long. I’m sad to be leaving it, but if Elliott and I want children, we need a bigger house.”
Once children are mentioned, Margaret’s eyes widen.
“CHILDREN!? You two!?”
“Well, yes. We’ve talked a lot, and we’d really love to have a family of our own.” Finn says softly. “Is there a problem…mother?”
“Ah…no problem at all. Of course I’m to assume that any grandchildren I get from you will be adopted?” Margaret asks confidently. “After all, you are both men…”
“Actually, Elliott here has the ability to change his body as he sees fit. So, if we are able, we will be having children biologically after we are married…” The cat-like toon answers honestly.
“I see.” Margaret doesn’t try to understand these abilities, she does not want to know. “I do think you should consider adoption…you don’t want to contaminate the family bloodline, do you? More than you already have, anyway…”
Butterscotch glares, but before he can say anything, Finn speaks up.
“This is the last time you’re ever seeing me, and it wasn’t even planned. I’ve been perfectly content not seeing or hearing from you for the past 97 years. What makes you think you’re ever going to even set eyes on my children? You have absolutely no say in what we decide to do…”
Margaret growls. “Watch your tongue, Phineas. Don’t forget who you’re talking to.”
Butterscotch looks at Finn in concern. Finn’s ears are folded back, and his pupils are slit-like as he growls at his mother softly. Butterscotch clears his throat.
“This spaghetti is pretty good!” He changes the subject, then starts shoveling spaghetti in his mouth like a starving dog, emptying the plate in seconds. “Would you look at that! I ate it all! And now I need the bathroom! Finn, show me to the bathroom please!”
Finn blinks, but then realizes what Butterscotch is doing. He nods.
“Please excuse us.”
He stands, leading Butterscotch to the bathroom. The demon pulls Finn into the bathroom with him, then closes and locks the door. Finn is panting softly.
“Elliott, I don’t know if I can do this!” Finn pants.
“It can’t be much longer now. Take deep breaths…” Butterscotch says softly. “You’re doing amazing so far…standing your ground, showing her that she doesn’t control you anymore. I’m so proud of you, honey…”
“But I can’t stand hearing her talk about you like you’re not even a person. I know you keep saying it doesn’t bother you, but it really bothers me! You’re the most important person in my life, and you’re being treated horribly just because you’re a different race and species, it’s so unfair!” Finn is almost brought to tears.
Butterscotch hugs Finn gently.
“I know, sweetheart…but just a little longer. Dinner’s almost done. We’ll get the answers we need, and get the hell out of here. You just gotta hold on a little longer.”
The demon helps Finn take deep breaths. Once Finn feels more calm, he looks at Butterscotch.
“Okay…” Finn smiles.
“We’ve got this. You’ve got this.” Butterscotch smiles.
After a little bit of waiting, the couple returns to the dinner table. However, Margaret and William have finished eating.
“Will you be finishing your plate, Phineas?” Margaret asks.
Finn looks at his plate…then shakes his head.
“I’m pretty full…”
“Very well. Come along, then…we’ll talk in my office.” Margaret heads up the stairs.
Butterscotch takes Finn’s hand, and the couple follow behind. It was time to do what they came here to do.

Goin' Back To T-Town: A Walk Along Black Wall Street
The Greenwood district in Tulsa, Oklahoma was once a Mecca for African American business. Then came the racist mob.
— Published January 20, 2021 | Kirstin Butler | From The Collection: The African American Experience
Tumblr media
Art by Jordan Mitchell
In early 1921, you could spend an entire day in the Greenwood district of Tulsa, Oklahoma without once leaving its central thoroughfare, Greenwood Avenue. You might start with breakfast at Lilly Johnson’s Liberty Cafe before heading to Elliott & Hooker’s at 124 North Greenwood to buy a new suit or dress. If, say, the sleeves were too long, you could stop at H.L. Byar’s tailor shop across the street at 105 North Greenwood before picking up a prescription down the way at the Economy Drug Company. By then it was probably time for another meal, maybe a plate of barbecue eaten while perusing the pages of one of Greenwood’s two newspapers, the Tulsa Star or Oklahoma Sun. Playing pool at one of several billiard halls was an enjoyable afternoon pastime, or if glamour was more the order of the day, a photoshoot at A.S. Newkirk’s photography studio could be arranged. After dinner at Doc’s Beanery—the house specialty, smothered steak with rice and brown gravy—you could take in a silent film accompanied by live piano at the 750-seat Dreamland Theatre. Finally, a long and satisfying day would come to a close at 301 North Greenwood, when your head came to rest on a well-fluffed pillow in one of the Stradford Hotel’s 54 rooms.
Tulsa’s Greenwood district in early 1921 occupied about 40 square blocks of real estate in the city’s northwest corner. The district’s eponymous avenue ran for more than a mile through the community’s heart, the central artery of its livelihood and the place where inhabitants went to see each other and be seen. There and on adjacent streets, they also accessed the services of doctors (the district had 15), dentists, realtors and lawyers.
Tumblr media
Black-owned businesses in Greenwood, including some of entrepreneur J.B. Stradford’s real estate properties, advertised in the Tulsa Star, 1914
Probably the most remarkable thing about all of these entrepreneurs, professionals and their clients was that they were Black. The Stradford hotel, valued at $75,000 ($2.5 million in today’s dollars), was founded by J. B. Stradford, one of Greenwood’s architects and the son of a formerly enslaved man. By 1921, Stradford's real estate portfolio included the hotel, his own personal mansion, two dozen rooming and rental buildings, bathhouses, shoeshine parlors and pool halls. Stradford was also a highly public critic of Tulsa’s racial oppression. In a 1916 petition to the city, he lamented a segregationist zoning ordinance passed that year: “[S]uch a law is to cast a stigma upon the colored race in the eyes of the world,” he wrote, “and to sap the spirit of hope for justice before the law from the race itself.”
The Dreamland Theatre anchored Greenwood Avenue at its locus of activity, the intersection with Archer Street. The theater belonged to Loula Tom Williams, who with her husband John also owned an auto repair garage and a confectionary. The Williamses moved to Tulsa from Mississippi in 1903 in pursuit of the American dream, which they realized in their theater and other business interests. The couple owned Greenwood’s first car, a 1911 Norwalk with leather seats, that would cost more than $50,000 today. Loula’s first foray into entrepreneurship, the Williams Confectionary, was a popular site for marriage proposals, presumably celebrated with a shared ice cream sundae.

Greenwood was a mecca for Black-owned businesses, fulfilling its community’s every want and need. Booker T. Washington, after whom the district’s high school was named, called it “Negro Wall Street.” Students at the high school studied Latin, bookkeeping and physics and were prepared to attend college at the best schools in the country that would admit Black students.
Some of Greenwood’s residents were the descendents of enslaved African Americans who had accompanied Indigenous tribes from the southeast during Native American Removal. Many came from states in the former Confederate South in search of opportunity (Greenwood actually took its name from a town in Mississippi). And by 1921, around 11,000 people, more than five times the population of the district only a decade earlier, had made Greenwood home. That population explosion mirrored greater Tulsa’s, where the booming oil business supported a rapidly growing metropolis with its own proliferating commercial interests.
Jim Crow segregation ensured that the two economies, those of white and Black Tulsa, remained separate. As a result, the money someone spent in Greenwood stayed in the community, circulating and recirculating from one business to another, one proprietor to the next. Those entrepreneurs then reinvested their earnings into the district and helped to develop it further.
In its upward mobility, Greenwood was an archetypal American neighborhood of the early 20th century. But that mobility made it particularly vulnerable to the malignant forces of American racism, and as Greenwood’s borders expanded, so did white Tulsans’ jealousy and resentment.
On May 30, 1921, a young Black Greenwood resident was arrested for allegedly assaulting a white woman in a downtown elevator. Thwarted in their attempt to lynch him , white Tulsa invaded the district with murderous intent the next day. White mobs, some of them deputized by official arms of the government, looted, set fire to and destroyed businesses, churches, schools, a public library and a hospital. The Dreamland Theatre was torched, as was the Stradford hotel and both of Greenwood’s newspaper offices. More than 1,200 homes were demolished. A thriving, vital place was reduced, in less than 24 hours, to piles of smoldering ash and rubble.
By today’s estimations, the Tulsa Race Massacre left at least 300 dead, many more injured, and 10,000 homeless. Eighty years later, in 2001, Oklahoma published an official report that equated the atrocity to a pogrom: “[T]he city of Tulsa erupted into a firestorm of hatred and violence that is perhaps unequaled in the peacetime history of the United States.”
Accounts from the era confirm this assessment. During the massacre, pioneering journalist Mary E. Jones Parrish escaped the combat zone of Greenwood’s commercial district with her young daughter, dodging bullets to make it to relative safety. After interviewing eyewitnesses, gathering photographs of the decimation and assembling a record of property losses, Parrish authored one of the definitive contemporary reports of the atrocity, Events of the Tulsa Disaster.
Tumblr media
Mary Jones Parrish (left) and her daughter Florence Mary Parrish as pictured in Events of the Tulsa Disaster, 1922
Of her own personal experience of the massacre, Parrish wrote, “[s]omeone called to me to ‘Get out of that street with your child or you will both be killed.’ I felt it was suicide to remain in the building, for it would surely be destroyed and death in the street was preferred, for we expected to be shot down at any moment. So we placed our trust in God, our Heavenly Father, who seeth and knoweth all things, and ran out in Greenwood in the hope of reaching a friend’s home.”
Parrish also chronicled her community’s heroic efforts to rebuild what had been taken from them. They did so with next to no assistance. The $4 million in claims (more than $200 million in today’s dollars) filed by the massacre’s victims were all denied by insurers, who refused to make payments on damages incurred by what they deemed a riot.
In fact, Oklahoma’s city and state officials tried to prohibit Greenwood’s residents from reestablishing their lives. White Tulsa’s political leadership and development interests passed fire ordinances intended to prevent the district’s reconstruction. Black residents found a stalwart advocate in Buck Colbert Franklin, a Greenwood attorney who worked out of a tent in the massacre’s immediate aftermath. Franklin represented community members in a case against the city in which the ordinances were eventually deemed a denial of inhabitants’ property rights.

By 1925, Greenwood stood again, rebuilt by its residents; their resilience was affirmed by the National Negro Business League’s selection of Tulsa as the site of its annual conference that year. White Tulsan’s racist attitudes toward African Americans remained, but Greenwood flourished nonetheless over the next several decades. The thirties and forties saw further economic development, and the community once again played host to high-profile out-of-town guests like Louis Armstrong and Nat King Cole.
Eventually, desegregation during the 1960s drew Tulsa’s African Americans beyond the district. As Greenwood’s residents spent their money elsewhere in the city, Tulsa planners hastened the neighborhood’s economic decline by using eminent domain to seize and demolish much of Greenwood’s commercial center. In 1960, for example, the city tore down the Dreamland Theatre building, which had become an Elks lodge and social center for the community. That destruction made way for Interstate 244 to cut directly through Greenwood Avenue and bisect the district’s central thoroughfare. Tulsa redlining and urban renewal policies hastened further deterioration. By 1980, Greenwood was largely a collection of deteriorating shuttered businesses and vacant homes.
In the last two decades, the area has been revitalized with new development. The benefits (and beneficiaries) of the recent economic growth remain controversial, however, with some community members arguing that gentrification further erases the area’s historic importance and public understanding of the massacre’s impact.
Now in 2021, a visit to the district might begin at 322 North Greenwood Avenue at the Greenwood Cultural Center, a nonprofit organization that fosters public awareness of Greenwood’s history. A memorial to Black Wall Street stands outside the center, yards from the Interstate 244 overpass. The marble slab was dedicated a generation ago on the massacre’s 75th anniversary and lists the hundreds of businesses once owned by African Americans in the district, among them the Dreamland Theatre and Stradford Hotel.
Above the columns of lost enterprise, a poem by massacre survivor Wynonia Murray Bailey is etched into the black stone. You might read the poem’s final stanza, accompanied by the sound of cars rushing by just 200 feet away:
“Greenwood! Lest you go unheralded,
I sing a song of remembrance
While sons of your bounty, loyal still
Place a headstone at the site of your victory.”

Golden Globes fashion: Stars return for soggy carpet
NEW YORK
The stars were back Tuesday for the Golden Globes' return to television, walking a soggy grayish carpet in relatively predictable looks — with a few notable exceptions.
A look at fashion from the 80th Golden Globes:
WORM NO MORE
Heidi Klum, not long after her Halloween worm appearance, showed up in a sky-high silver sparkler with a feathery embellishment over one shoulder as the crowd was treated to a reprieve from rain that has plagued Southern California.
THE MEN
There were lots of black suits and tuxedoes. Eddie Redmayne showed up in brown with a huge silk flower on one lapel, courtesy of Valentino. Another standout: Colman Domingo in a black tux with jewels.
Elvis, also known as Austin Butler, entered the building in a traditional black tux.
METALLICS
Sheryl Lee Ralph of “Abbott Elementary” in jewel-tone blue with chunky embellishment led the train parade in her high-neck look. Viola Davis also opted for a jewel-tone, body-skimming blue.
Chloe Flower, who will perform a song during the show, went for a longer train in a white, lightly embellished number.
Niecy Nash-Betts wore a lovely deep purple gown with chunky sparkle, paired with a large-shouldered overcoat. Both were done by Dolce & Gabbana.
There was a healthy showing of golds, too, including an adorable 19-year-old Bailey Bass from “Avatar: The Way of Water” in a long look with a delicate pattern. Michelle Williams wore an ethereal, ivory one-shoulder look trimmed in gold. Her ruffly look included a high-side slit.
With exceptions like Domingo, jewels were kept to a minimum.
Tumblr media
THE COLOR
A pregnant Abby Elliott went for burnt orange with all-around sequins from Pamella Roland. Her sparkler had long blouson sleeves and a high neck.
Jenny Slate was in emerald green. She told E! of her slip dress with a large flower at the neck that she was aiming for “a woman who's about to turn into a magical plant.”
Among the standout looks was E! host Laverne Cox in a sexy goddess gown in blue and silver, her hair in a curly Old Hollywood bob. Her look was vintage John Galliano.
Billy Porter walked in a crimson tuxedo gown and high chunky heeled blinged-out silver boots.
Anya Taylor-Joy went for a sunny yellow two-piece look with a tiny bandeau top.
SPECIAL COLLAB
Sepideh Moafi, an Iranian American actress, wore a black sequined look with special touches. She worked on the look with Iranian designer Amir Taghi and the Haus of Milad.
“The dress has many stories,” she told The Associated Press, “but the most important of which is this flower, which represents a blooming new Iran during this revolution.”
She was referring to a monthslong wave of protests in Iran challenging the country's ruling theocracy.

i read the final girl support group by grady hendrix a few months back, and while i was reading it my friend and i would discuss who we think should play each of the characters.
starting with lynnette, i think that olivia hussey should play her. i'm like 99.9% sure that lynnette is at least loosely based off of jess bradford from black christmas (1974) and i just think she'd be a good fit for her.
dani is based off of laurie strode, so of course jamie lee curtis would have to play her. while i was reading the book and when dani would be mentioned or she'd be present in the scene, every time she would speak i would just think of jamie lee. so jamie lee playing dani is a no brainer.
julia should be played by neve campbell, since julia is based off of sidney prescott and shares neve's last name. similarly with dani, every time julia was mentioned or in a scene i would just picture neve as her.
for heather, obviously, heather langenkamp would play her. heather is based off of nancy thompson (and probably the fictional heather from new nightmare), so it definitely makes sense for heather to play heather. though there are some differences between book heather and the real heather, i think they could still make it work.
okay for marilyn, there would have to be a recast since marilyn burns is sadly no longer with us, so i was thinking sarah paulson should portray this version of marilyn. now, hear me out on this because i think it would be hilarious for sarah to play marilyn. there's a scene in the book where marilyn threatens to smack lynnette and heather because they're arguing and the idea of olivia hussey, heather langenkamp, and sarah paulson all in the same scene together that results in sarah threatening to smack heather is so funny to me. and yes, sarah might be too young but they could always use make up to make her look older (like they did to her when she played older lana winters in american horror story: asylum), or i was also thinking that caroline williams could portray marilyn since book marilyn has a little bit of a stretch brock reference.
another recast would be for adrienne butler, who is inspired by adrienne king who played alice hardy in the original friday the 13th. book adrienne is black and adrienne king is white, so i was thinking that angela bassett should play her instead. i love angela and think that she's a wonderful actress, and i have loved her in horror since american horror story, so i think it would be really cool to see her as a final girl.
for the last of the final girls, i was thinking for the disgraced final girl chrissy, she should be played by ashley laurence. when i got to that part of the book where lynnette meets up with chrissy, as i read her description i immediately pictured ashley. this may be because chrissy sounds a lot like kirsty, ashley's character in hellraiser, but the way she acts just reminds me of kirsty. chrissy is also, as one would say, squirrelly, and that was a trait that i thought she had in common with kirsty. i can just picture ashley nailing the role of chrissy.
finally we have doctor elliot, and i have no other reasoning behind this other than there was a rumor of her being in a movie for the final girl support group, and although i don't know who she was supposed to play, i think charlize theron would be a good fit. my friend told me of her casting and i couldn't really picture her as anyone else other than doctor elliott if i'm being completely honest.
