Willamette National Forest, Oregon, USA
Willamette National Forest is located in Oregon in the United States. More specifically, in the Cascade Range, a major mountain range in western North America. Comprised of more than 600,000 hectares, with over 150,000 hectares of designated wilderness and seven major mountain peaks, visitors here can hike through the sprawling conifer forest landscape, explore scenic lookouts, bathe in alpine lakes and even take part in nature and heritage tours.
Today’s photo shows McKenzie River National Recreation Trail, part of the Willamette National Forest. This trail winds by lakes, rivers and springs, guiding you through shady old-growth forests. One highlight here is the view overlooking Tamolich Blue Pool, a crystal-clear pool created by the river bubbling up into it.

Lovely.
We're getting thunderstorms tonight.
This is NOT a good thing. The entire region is dry and fuel for wildfires. We have a wildfire about 30 minutes drive west of me, right outside town, and 115 acres thus far. Lightning strikes will bring more fires. Wind gusts going out from the storm are predicted to be upwards of 50mph.
If you're in a fire prone area, consider downloading the Watch Duty app. It monitors wildfires and is operated by active and retired firefighters, dispatch operators, and first responders. No ads of any kind, no third party, and updated the minute anything changes. There are also evacuation alerts in the app.
I'm also signed up with my county's alert system for wildfires and weather. Here's the info I received just now:
Red Flag Warning Issued: 2024-07-16 13:04:00 PDT|Expiring: 2024-07-17 05:00:00 PDT SOUTHERN WILLAMETTE VALLEY-CENTRAL OREGON CASCADE FOOTHILLS- NORTHERN WILLAMETTE NATIONAL FOREST- SOUTHERN WILLAMETTE NATIONAL FOREST- 104 PM PDT TUE JUL 16 2024 ...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 5 AM PDT WEDNESDAY FOR THUNDERSTORMS FOR FIRE WEATHER ZONES 685, 687, 689, AND 690...
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN PORTLAND HAS ISSUED A RED FLAG WARNING FOR THUNDERSTORMS, WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 5 AM PDT WEDNESDAY. THE FIRE WEATHER WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.
* AFFECTED AREA...IN OREGON, FIRE WEATHER ZONE 685 SOUTHERN WILLAMETTE VALLEY, FIRE WEATHER ZONE 687 CENTRAL OREGON CASCADE FOOTHILLS, FIRE WEATHER ZONE 689 NORTHERN WILLAMETTE NATIONAL FOREST AND FIRE WEATHER ZONE 690 SOUTHERN WILLAMETTE NATIONAL FOREST. * THUNDERSTORMS...ISOLATED TO SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS.
* IMPACTS...LIGHTNING AND CRITICALLY DRY FUELS MAY RESULT IN NUMEROUS FIRE STARTS. THUNDERSTORM OUTFLOW WINDS MAY RESULT IN ERRATIC FIRE SPREAD. * OUTFLOW WINDS...THERE IS A 10% CHANCE FOR WIND GUSTS IN EXCESS OF 50 MPH FROM THE STRONGEST STORMS THROUGH THIS EVENING.
* IMPACTS...FREQUENT LIGHTNING AND CRITICALLY DRY FUELS MAY RESULT IN NUMEROUS FIRE STARTS. THUNDERSTORM OUTFLOW WINDS MAY RESULT IN ERRATIC FIRE SPREAD. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A RED FLAG WARNING MEANS THAT CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EITHER OCCURRING NOW, OR WILL SHORTLY. A COMBINATION OF THE ABOVE CONDITIONS CAN CONTRIBUTE TO EXTREME FIRE BEHAVIOR
I fucking hate summer. Haaaaaaaate it.

West Diamond Lake Highway, OR (No. 3)
Odell Lake is located near Willamette Pass in the northwest corner of Klamath County, Oregon, United States. It is one of several lakes in the Cascade Range in Central Oregon, and lies within the Deschutes National Forest. It was named for Oregon Surveyor General William Holman Odell by Bynon J. Pengra, in July 1865, while they were making a preliminary survey for the Oregon Central Military Road, which would later become Oregon Route 58. The lake fills a basin carved by a glacier, and the resulting terminal moraine confines the water along the lake's southeast shore.

Understood that there’s no mandatory anarchist reading. Do you got any cool recommendations for anti-civ and green anarchy tho? I read Blessed is the Flame already and am interested in more
perhaps the coolest might maybe by chance be the ecodefense guide to monkeywrenching. focused on ways to attack and move toward the sort of future we seek.
im always recommending low-tech magazine, especially the solar powered version of the website (if you really want to go hardcore with it, you can also order the printed website). not really explicitely anti-civ, insurrectionary, or even radical (i seem to recall some rather reformist lib vibes at some point, but idr, so don't quote me), but focused on what a future/prefigurative society could look like, which i think makes it appealing for appealing to those not aligned with anticiv etc.
perhaps less specifically anti-civ and more broadly "post-left" is this article from do or die, which was a magazine you may find interesting as it was 'the voice of the british earth first movement', however ive only ever read this article tbh 😔😓😭
here are all 10 issues of do or die. i wouldn't necessarily recommend just reading thru them in order, but rather look at the various article titles and just follow whatever catches your interest
crimethinc has a lot of different voices going on, and they've changed over time, but overall they generally vibe pretty well with anticiv and green anarchy. to mix it up a bit and give your brain a bit of a rest, i'll recommend specifically pickaxe, but again just go browse what they have and follow your heart
i'd also like to give a shout out to zines and the punk scene. go to some shows if you're able, connect with people, hopefully someone is tabling, or maybe there are still some infoshops around and they got a show there, find a book or zine to read between or even during bands (great for if you're the type who is afraid to go to shows alone too btw)
could probably go on forever but hopefully that's some good leads for ya. enjoy.
