Let’s go with the Johnnicky Kids: 

Cal: “I was eight when I first officially met my Uncle Joseph. I had seen him the year before that, but my dad was adamant that I wasn’t supposed to talk to him when he was outside. But  Carmina and I went exploring one day, and we got lost. He took us home like he knew the place- that should’ve been the first red flag, but we were kids, we didn’t know. Anyway, we must’ve looked like we were starving, because he gave us each an Apple- yeah, you know where this is going. We didn’t know what those were. We were just happy to be given food. Or we were. He started going on about how the apple would give us the power to do anything, to keep everybody safe. Carmina got weirded out and immediately gave it back. Me, well, I almost took it, but then the anxiety kicked in about all the power and responsibility he was going on about. I already had like. eight jobs back home, I couldn’t add being Prosperity’s protector to it. I gave it back, and... he got this weird look I didn’t get, either. Hugged me, told me he was proud. I remember thinking that was the strangest thing because the way he said it- only my mom and dad should say it like that. Point is, he took it back and was super happy about it. Here we are, ten years later- we know what that Apple was. It gave the Gift of Eden. I guess it was a test for me and my dad- to see if I was humble enough for Eden’s Gift, and if my dad had done right and good and raised me to be humble enough to refuse the gift first. I did what Ethan didn't.” 

Lennox:  “So apparently I almost died when I was like... twelve. My dads were taking me fishing, and there was nothing biting, so I wanted to make sure we got something, right? So then I saw this giant fish in the water and I didn’t even think about it, y’know, I just jumped. Thing was like my size. Next thing I knew Dad was screamin’ bloody murder and Pop was unloading a shotgun into the damn thing. Turns out I had gotten a ‘demon fish’- like I was supposed to know that. All that work for nothing. I still have the scar from when it bit me though, wanna see? It’s awesome!” 

Ariadne: “Mom and Dad don’t think I remember Mickey and Lou, but I do. We weren’t allowed to go outside for a while until Aunt Syd and Uncle Tom showed up. Willa and some friends and I managed to get out once, and... Mickey and Lou found us, and they were... really nice, but really, really scary. They took us and promised to bring us home so we told them where we lived. Then everything went wrong and one of them gave Willa a grenade and then Dad killed them. Mom and Dad wouldn’t leave us alone for a long time after that. They were really scared. We promised them that we were okay, but... we lied. I lied, anyway. I still get bad dreams about it sometimes, but I don’t wanna make them worry.”

1) How many kids do they want? Do they have kids already? For John and Nic, I stand by that Galavant incorrect quote where they’re talking hypotheticals and she goes “our seven children” to which he replies “frankly I thought maybe three?”. Sharky would also want at least one just for the thrill of it all/taking the kid out for adventures with Hurk. Depending on the ‘Verse they have three or five, with Cal, Ariadne and Willa with John as their father, and then Lennox and Charlie with Sharky as their father. 

2) How old were they when they had/adopted their first baby? Nic was 29 and John was 33 for Cal, and then for Lennox, Nic was... 35 I think?? With Sharky at 42? 

3) Was their first planned? Cal was an Oops Baby no matter what, ‘canon verse or No Cult. Lennox was also unplanned but they were a little more open to it. 

4) Do they go overboard with buying baby clothes? In No Cult/No War AUs where they have the option, John is aaaallllll over that, spoiling the kid with clothes and other gifts but juuuuusssssttt under the radar enough that Nic only has to reel him in every couple of months. If he had his way entirely she’d at least give him a warning look every damn week. 

5) How did they decorate their baby room? Keep it baby blue until the kid has a favorite color that they would paint it, animal, airplane and car/truck themes everywhere. A little bit of all three parents everywhere. 

6) What did they dress up their baby(ies) for their first Halloween? A lion, bumblebee, lady bug, pumpkin and a scarecrow. 

7) What are their kids names? Callan “Cal”, Willa, Ariadne, Lennox, Charlotte “Charlie”/ “Charlemagne the Fifth - yes it counts, Nic, shut up” 

8) How do they celebrate their baby(ies) 1st birthday(s)? Again, John goes absolutely bonkers inviting 8/10s of the county to the party, Nic... strategically loses some invites but also goes overboard with cutesy decor, Sharky gets all the entertainment planned. There end up being a lot of fireworks and other loud, crazy things going on. 

9) Where do they go on their first family vacation? Something ‘small’ but fun, like a California beach. John’s absolutely planning to go to Hawaii or another country entirely when the kids get older, though. 

What type of personalities do their kid(s) have? Cal is a perfect blend of John and Nic where he’s got a flair for the dramatic but he’s also kind and chaos just follows him everywhere. Willa and Ariadne are far more reserved, eager to learn anything and everything they can, Lennox is basically mini Sharky with enough social skills where he knows when to Stop (but just barely), Charlie is super artistic, patient and confidant-shaped.

Pens: Next Gen Edition

Finn: As much as he loves his Uncle Roy, growing up and learning about all of his dirty cop nonsense is what kept him away from the LAPD and towards the path of seeing that corrupt people got punished legally. 

The Johnnicky Brood, counting them all as one pen  because BORED:

Cal: Takes a page from John’s book and melts down some spare scrap from plane Carmina to make the ring he proposes to human Carmina with. 

Willa: Helping the doctors around Prosperity nurse Ethan back to health is what got her interest in medicine going. 

Ariadne: During her childhood as obsessed with flower crowns and made one for everybody she encountered. She wasn’t sure why everybody was so nervous about it, but overheard it had something to do with “some Faith girl.” 

Lennox: Takes after Sharky when it comes to obliviousness, and has knocked himself out via trying to show off and twirling a wrench around and clocking himself in the head when he tossed it upward. 

Charlie: Learns to knit from directions she found in some salvaged books, knitted her entire family blankets as gifts one year. 

Lyrie: (my Dragonborn and Brynjolf’s daughter who I’ve never mentioned): Is the reason Teldryn got his first grey hair because she’s such a ball of energy and trouble magnet. Keeping her safe while babysitting is an absolute nightmare.

So the influx of FC: New Dawn    Seed/Deputy kids made me realized aside from Cal I’ve never really done a breakdown for the next gen of the Raylan(-Boshaw) clan, so: 

Apocalypse Callan “Cal”  Raylan 

Born: November 11th, 2019

- Spitting image of John, but with 70% of Nic’s personality. Kind-hearted, always wants to help people even if he gets nothing in return. Halent for archery and getting into trouble. Doesn’t take well to finding out the truth about his father’ real identity and  being a Seed by extension. When Joseph tells him he’s meant to lead New Eden, he’s not about that life. Especially when he finds out it involves fist fighting a bear. 

Willa and Ariadne Raylan

Born:  January 27th, 2028 Named after Earl William Whitehorse and the “girl who led Theseus out of a world of darkness” Willa and Ariadne, respectively, were two of the first sets of kids born into the New World. Adored by every co-parent in Prosperity, the girls lived for adventure, even if their kingdom was just the grounds of the Ranch. At age eight they were threatened by Mickey and Lou so they lost some of that sense of adventure and John and Nic didn’t take kindly to letting them out of their sight for a while. But what started as reasonably overbearing parenting ended with Willa getting interested in medicine and Ariadne getting interested in farming, and they grew up to me major players in keeping the people Prosperity healthy.  Lennox “Nix” Raylan-Boshaw 

Born: June 10th, 2026 Almost named after Clutch Nixon, but Sharky agreed to compromise when Nic refused and they eventually found middle ground with “Lennox.” Early on in life, John was extremely hopeful that Lennox was biologically his, but when Lennox, at early as age three, developed an interest in fire and explosions, there was no doubt that there was Boshaw/Drubman blood in his veins. He grew up dynamite fishing with Sharky, Hurk and Blade - until Nic found them and marched them all right back to Prosperity. Inherits the explosives lab once he’s old enough, and Sharky’s never been more proud.

Charlotte “Charlie” Raylan-Boshaw 

Born: July 3rd, 2029 To Nic and John’s relief, while Charlie’s got most of Sharky’s physical features, she inherited next to none of his interests. She’s perfectly content growing up following Nic around and helping her around the house, and then hanging out with “Uncle” Nick and “cousin” Carmina in the garage. She ends up being a grease monkey, and John is low key absolutely furious that Nick Rye is his daughter’s hero- and eventual boss. Nick figures it’s the best revenge he can get for all the bullshit John put them through in the early days.

🍓 - Whereas Cal’s an even split between a Momma’s Boy and a Daddy’s Boy, Willa and Ariadne are neither. They love their parents unconditionally, but they’re more Brother’s Girls than anything. Cal gets through to them more than their parents do, no matter what age they are.

― two headcanons you have for your muse:

During his first night after inheriting New Eden from his uncle, he had his first panic attack, because what the Hell was Joseph thinking, he’s twenty years old, he can’t do this, his mom was the hero leader, not him. 

When they’re in their mid twenties, Cal approaches Nick for his blessing for proposing to Carmina. Nick sort of blows him off for a bit which is moderately upsetting considering Nick is like another father to him, but Nick comes back asking a bunch of morality-related questions, Cal answers, apparently with ‘flying colors.’ Later he finds out that they’re the exact questions Nick asked John over the years to determine just how much he was willing to forgive the guy. He gets it, but he’s still a little insulted, but hey, he gets to ask Carmina to marry him, so whatever.

The matriarch, Nicolette Raylan came from a broken home, raised by her mother, and the police sheriff who would eventually be her boss took up the mantle as a stand-in father.  She went to Hope County to take out Joseph Seed and his family and started what we now call the Holy War. Eventually, things went south in the Project’s ranks, John Seed, the youngest brother, also the patriarch, went to the Resistance. The pair butted heads for a while, but love ended up conquering, and the pair married and started a family nearly right when the Collapse happened. Their firstborn was Cal, who went on to become the Shepherd of New Eden at his Uncle Joseph’s behest and looked after the new compound and led the two formerly opposing sides in peace with his wife Carmina. Then came twins Willa and Ariadne- the future doctor and botanist at Prosperity, the home they had made. After that, their friend Charlemagne Boshaw- “Sharky” to most, joined into their family and fathered two other kids with her, Lennox and Charlie, who would eventually become mechanics on the grounds. John and Nicolette also took in several children temporarily to help them get back on their feet if tragedy struck, and both still referred to them as their children, even years later. It was a very loving family unit all around, and they’re known for their loyalty to each other even now.”

Cal: Does not remotely have his parents’ skill in romance, he’s a hopeless mess, so even if he’s aware everybody expects him and Carmina to get together someday, when he finally develops an actual crush in his teens, Willa and Ariadne immediately find out and run to tell her, so he spends most of the day with the girls in a very loose headlock trying to keep them away from Carmina.

Cal: Can swim just fine but something about open water terrifies him. He gets fairly mad when all the former Resistance people find out about that if he ever brings it up and they’re just “well isn’t that interesting” “I mean, I guess, but why?” 

Nic:  When it comes time for the Thanksgiving dinner that her and John host and invite Joseph to, everybody’s skeptical about what the meal will be because Nic’s so adamant about ‘letting the deer and other animals with cuter faces live” - until she came home after a day of ‘hunting’ - with a wheelbarrow absolutely full of demonfish. There’s one with what’s very clearly a bulletwound near it’s skull “that bastard almost got me but as you can see it’s fine... ... but we can give any meat from that one to Joseph just in case.” 

Nic: Post-Collapse, she finds John’s plane jacket in Sharky’s bunker where they left it all those years ago. She does a few repairs on it then gives it to him as a birthday gift- which he nearly immediately re-gifts to her so they’re that annoying couple, but also so she’s got more something more substantial of his other than his bunker key cord that she converted into a bracelet. 

Isabella (Nic’s mother): In all AUs she’s low key smitten with John herself so she tells Nic on more than one occasion that ‘if you get tired of him send him my way.’ Her attitude is exactly why Nic is immediately attached to Addie- she’s far too similar to her own mom.

15.What was your OC’s childhood like? As mentioned in the last post, not fantastic. A lot of stepping on eggshells, even in her younger years until The Incident, and then things kind of… evened out and she led a spectacularly average life.

16. What is your OC’s strongest childhood memory? Why and how as that impacted him/her? Again, The Incident, and then meeting Whitehorse. It made the lightbulb go off that she wanted to stop the bad guys and learn what made them tick.

17.What is your OC’s imagination like? As a kid it was very vivid, rainbows, unicorns, castles in the sky, the works. As she grew up it… was still kind of out there but kept roots in reality. Like… she’d dream up best case scenarios of whatever she was living through at the time. There’s still the occasional unicorn, though.

18. How many times did your OC move as a child?  Which area was his/her favorite?  Only a couple of times in her childhood for her dad’s work, but once she graduated high school she became a bit nomadic. She’d stay on Whitehorse’s couch for a while, move somewhere else, stay on a friend’s couch, back to Whitehorse’s and so on. She didn’t really have time to get attached to any of them in particular. 

19.What does your OC think of children- either in general or about having them? Absolutely adored kids before having them. Once she’s pregnant the first time she still adores kids as a concept but she was a little nervous- not because of her own skill but the fact that John Seed was the father, and what if he pulls a Joseph? She was fine with it and excited when Willa and Ariadne came along, and then in the verse where Nix and Charlie exist she’s straight back to nervous because “oh my god is being a pyromaniac genetic, is this kid gonna be more Raylan, Seed or Boshaw? Please be a Raylan, please be normal. And sane. And like controlled fires once in a blue moon.”

20) What kind of mother/father would your OC be? As far as parenting, she’s the Cool Mom, but is absolutely okay being the disciplinarian because for her and John’s kids, John’s terrified of overstepping and making them fear or hate him for the rest of their lives. For her and Sharky’s two kids, she has to deal with “what the fuck is ‘discipline’?” so she’s gotta make sure her kids know SOME limits.

Sharky’s been in love with Nic/at least interested in John since game canon. It’s one of the reasons Sharky volunteered to be Cal’s pretend father when news of the Johnnic Oops Baby (Cal) got out. An equal scandal, but less of a problematic scandal, and it got people to not hate Nic which was A-OK with him

John was low-key jealous of Sharky and Nic’s dynamic at first because they were such strong best friends and there was clear unconditional, seemingly platonic love between them, which he never had with Nic until ages into their relationship. He earned her trust and love, Sharky got it regardless. Sure, it made Johnnic stronger as a couple, but it still would’ve been nice to have it so effortlessly like Sharky did 

John/Nic/Sharky getting intimate was only supposed to be a one night only thing. One and done, out of the system, they all admitted attraction and being adventurous in sexual exploits back in the day, so they all got “drunk”- (read: slightly tipsy) to ease their nerves and fuckin’ went for it

Woke up the next day all cuddly and cute and happy and were all “oh shit, this can’t be just one night, we’re attached” 

So then it just keeps happening and before long Sharky’s got “his own” pillow and preferred side of the bed and he moves into Seed Ranch with them, but only because his trailer was decimated.

John and Nic are open to having him in their relationship, but they figure with all the stories he’s got he’s very much a non-commitment guy so they give him a wide berth like they assume he wants. 

And then they have a conversation where Feelings are admitted and then by the end of it Sharky’s an official thing with them. 

They try to keep it low key but considering in the Post-Collapse world Johnnic is basically royalty and none of them know the meaning of subtle, people Know. And aren’t surprised at all. And considering Nic bagged the last remaining Herald of the Project, well, now they’ve seen everything, of course she bagged the resident pyromaniac who was head over heels in love with her on sight. And of course Crazy John is just so smitten with Nic he’d just go along with it. This is The New World, poly ain’t quite groundbreaking enough to be scandalous anymore. 

The next generation of the Raylan-Boshaw clan at random points in their life/ in the world where I don’t give Nic’s vag a break and let her have five kids. Cal, Willa and Ariadne are John’s, Charlie and Lennox are Sharky’s

Fun fact: Nic didn’t mind naming Charlie after Sharky, but absolutely refused to name their son after after Clutch Nixon like he wanted. They compromised with ‘Lennox’, because the “Nixon” thought is vaguely there but original enough that it’s not obvious. John thinks the name debate is hilarious considering that Cal was still “Apocalypse Baby” all through her pregnancy and minutes after his birth so Nic’s got absolutely no right to talk.
