cas and dean vs. clothes shopping small fic
after they get cas out of the empty there’s a lot of mundane shit to do. he’s human again, and it’s permanent this time, or as permanent as things ever are for a winchester, but that’s a terrifying thought so it gets locked up in the for later box in deans head. but cas needs food and toiletries and clothes and he’s decided he hates the bedding in the bunker so he has to get new sheets too.
most of this is easy enough. last time cas was human he learned the basics—digestion, hygiene, money—and when he was sick on stolen grace he learned a bit more about preferences. they get him set up with 3-in-1 shampoo and a tooth brush and when dean makes the trip out to the city to do their monthly bulk shopping, he drags cas with him to get some sheets he won’t bitch about. on the way back, dean stops at a secondhand store run by a local church.
cas doesn’t seem to like shopping. he was pleasant on the ride to the city and effusive about the cheap hotdogs they ate for lunch, but about 20 minutes into hauling cases of water and table salt into their cart he got surly. he got even surlier when dean suggested he could go wait with baby. by the time they checked out, dean had written him off and decided to wait out his silence.
the thrift store smells like every thrift store he’s ever been in, dusty and a little bit like cats. the clothes selection isn’t huge, but it’ll do for getting cas started. thats deans hope, anyway, but when he told cas to grab whatever catches his eye and wanders off to a rack of casettes, he hoped cas would get a few days worth of shirts, maybe even find some serviceable jeans. instead, cas dumps an XL shirt with “FALLSTON COUNTY MIDDLE SCHOOL TURKEY TROT 2013” across the front in orange bubble text and a faded grey bucket hat into deans basket.
“that’s all?”
cas shrugs. apparently still not talking. dean knows from experience that forcing the issue right now will, at best, start a fistfight, and at worst, cause cas to fuck off for who knows how long. maybe if he was still an angel dean would go for it, press his luck, but with cas freshly back and freshly human and apparently here to stay, dean swallows the impulse. he buys the admittedly very soft turkey trot shirt and the hat.
after two weeks, it becomes apparent that cas is uninterested in obtaining possessions. he’s content to wear his wholesale underwear and deans shirts and a pair of shorts abandoned by one of the apocalypse world hunters. there are infinite good things about cas coming back, and there are infinite terrifying things about him being human now, and there are infinite things about his return that dean has been trying to stuff in the For Later box, and unfortunately that leaves him kind of pissed off about how he can never find the shirt he wants to wear when he wants to wear it, and also the way his own wardrobe is dwindling due to cas never fucking returning anything. not that he minds sharing! but that would require cas to bring anything back.
not that dean plans to confront him about it. which is maybe cas’s play here? damn. well. deans done great at not bringing up anything heavier than meal planning for over a month already. no need to ruin his streak now.
there’s still hunts. sam and eileen have been out on a few since cas got back. now that dean is better, sam hasn’t been hovering so much. but cas brings the job to dean in the dean cave, pulled up on his phone to show him. it ends up being easy to wrap up, just a matter of destroying a cursed 35mm camera properly and getting the formerly cursed women to the nearest hospital. they don’t even need to put on the fed suits for it, which is good, because dean forgot that cas’s old suit got ruined in his rescue. in deans defense, he wasn’t really thinking that hard about clothes that day, or about anything besides cas heaving himself upright on the other side of that rift, alive and back.
when dean brings up the need for a new fed suit, cas just hums like it’s inconsequential. and because dean is still practicing non confrontation, he decides to take matters into his own hands.
the suit is easy. he goes with the same cut jimmy novaks suit was, in black, and a few dress shirts. ties seem to be one of the few things cas likes to shop for, so dean only grabs one—boring, professional blue and white stripes. it comes in handy days after he hangs it up in cas’s closet, when they have to haul ass out to tennessee to deal with a werewolf pack and have to play fed to get access to the bodies.
after that, it’s a blue fleece-lined hoodie he picks up while he’s canvassing for witnesses hunting what turns out to be a shifter. cas wears it the whole time they’re in the motel looking over the facts of the case, and he wears it in the car on the way back, his strong squared fingers catching deans eye in the rear view mirror whenever he fidgets with the hoods drawstring. there’s a stack of weird novelty tee shirts he picks up in the city the next time he does the bulk restock, this time alone. cas wears them all in a rotation, mostly under his hoodie or one of deans flannels.
when cas asks him to grab a jacket for him, dean cracks on his non confrontational policy. “you should choose it yourself,” he says. cas just hums.
“i like wearing what you’ve chosen,” he says after a minute. “i trust your judgement.”
which, leave it to cas to turn this into—something.
dean buys him a jacket.
he buys him socks, and pajama pants, and new boots and some henleys and a few thrifted flannels, soft from wear. he buys a scarf. house shoes. and cas wears them all, and never returns deans clothes before dean asks for them.

Hi Chronivac support: I hope you can help me. I am an affluent, well-educated, overgroomed, overdressed white corporate executive, but I know that is not my REAL calling and identity. I have very expensive clothes and a BMW, and even my name Timothy is formal and classy.
However, I know that I should be an uneducated manual laborer, working as a garbageman. My REAL calling. I must be forced to surrender my corporate career, my office, my BMW, my expensive formal Italian suit and tie, my briefcase, my manicured fingernails, my styled hair, my wristwatch and polished black dress shoes and socks and yes, even my own name along the way down the class ladder to my new real life. But I don’t have the courage to make the changes alone. Can you show me the way to transformation? Thank you.
Seriously? Well, it actually doesn't look like there's any reason for you to be dissatisfied with your life. But if you want to…
While you are taking your croissant and your cappuccino, your cell phone vibrates. You take it out of the inside pocket of your tailored Scabal jacket. But it's not your new iPhone 15 Pro. It's an old rather bruised device. But you know the code to activate it. The message you got is in Turkish. It's called "If you don't get your ass to the site in half an hour, you're out of a job." Unfortunately, you don't understand Turkish yet. The transformation has only arrived at your calloused hands and dirty fingernails. Your skin is getting darker. The back of your hands hairier. In incipient panic, you reach for your Montblanc wallet. But there is only a cheap nylon wallet in your worn jacket. With a few dirty bills inside. Fuck, if you pay for your breakfast, you're broke. You look around. And relax. Here in your favorite café, tea and sesame curls only cost a few cents. And you can pay later if necessary.
You get a new message. That you can pick up your wages for the last ten days later at the construction site. After that, you don't have to show your face again. Fuck, that means you'll have to bum cigarettes again the next few days. But working sucks too. And in case of need you can always carry boxes in the morning at the wholesale market. And actually, what the social security office pays you is by and large sufficient. Shit, the pissers said that you have to visit the employment office today. Otherwise they will stop paying you.
In the bus you drive without a ticket. What for? You have better things to spend your money on. The lady you sat next to gets up after a few minutes and changes her seat. Just because you are looking at pictures of fat cocks on your cell phone and massage your bulge. Infidel buffer!
You know what your name means, Ünal? It means "fame." What a contradiction to your new life. Let's see if the employment office has a job for you today.
Pics from your old and your new life found @mensuited and @hairyturkandarabstuds

Destiel Month, 22 Nov.: Case
Unlike Kevin, who'd left part-time glory for grad school a couple of months ago, the new delivery man moved a little slowly.
deancas ust, bookshop au + human cas + real baby jack
Unlike Kevin, who'd left part-time glory for grad school a couple of months ago, the new delivery man moved a little slowly. While a customer counted coins for the used book she was purchasing, Castiel observed the delivery man from the register at the other side of the shop, and noted the man's uneven gait, which was not so much a limp as a hesitation, like he was still getting used to walking without help.
The wardrobe was interesting too. Some of the national delivery services made their employees wear uniforms, but Ellen didn't bother with that sort of thing. Her laborers were probably being paid under the table anyway. The way she trafficked perishable goods and her general attitude gave the impression that it would be best not to think too hard about how and why she was willing to sell at such, ahem, reasonable, lower than wholesale prices.
New delivery man, despite the limp, seemed more than capable of lifting heavy boxes and placing them safely on the table by the shop's back door: namely, a child-sized box of raw sugar packets and two cases of something that sloshed, likely shelf-stable milk, if this was Castiel's standing third week of the month order. At the moment, the delivery man's arms distracted him, as the rolled up flannel sleeves showed off sinewy strength and freckles, and, on one arm from wrist to elbow, a long, uneven splotch of dark pink.
A recent second-degree burn, Castiel thought, and realized he might know this particular delivery man, if only by reputation.
Mrs. Applebaum achieved the thirty seven cents she'd been digging in her purse for. "My apologies for the wait," she said, handing over the dimes and pennies.
"Not a problem," Castiel said, sliding her copy of Mystifying Mushrooms and How to Cook with Them across the counter.
When she'd rolled herself through the front door, Castiel went to check on the delivery man. "Need any help?" he said, the words fading out of his mouth as the man's bottle green eyes caught his.
They stood there looking at each other for a startled, suspended moment. The man let the last case thump onto the table a bit roughly, and then blinked.
"Oh, sorry. Sorry." He steadied the box. "Should be okay."
"It'll be fine," Castiel said. "I'm–"
"You're Castiel?" Dean interrupted. The freckles on his cheeks were emphasized by the flush that had sprung across his face. He cleared his throat. "Ellen sent me."
"I figured." Castiel held out a hand. "And you're Dean."
"Yes." Dean shook his hand firmly. "We haven't met before, have we?"
"No, I…" Castiel paused. "Overheard Kevin talking to someone on the phone about you once, a few weeks ago."
Dean smiled and looked at the floor. "He's a total nerd. We miss having him around."
The fondness in his voice made Castiel almost smile too. "He was always prompt with deliveries." He waited until Dean looked back up to say, "It sounds like you've made a very encouraging recovery thus far."
Dean's eyes shifted away. "Yeah. It's been going all right." He gave a small shrug. "I'm lucky to have good doctors and everything."
The light that had dimmed in his eyes made Castiel's chest ache. "Will you go back to firefighting when you're cleared to?"
"No." Dean sighed. "I could pursue teaching at the training academy. And I might, but. Not for a while, if ever. Helping out Ellen's enough for the time being."
"I know firefighters know the risks, and you were brave to take them; it must still be very hard to have this sort of thing happen," Castiel said.
Dean's expression – well, the only word Castiel had for it was gobsmacked, though that couldn't be right. Had a dozen other people not said to him exactly what Castiel had just said?
"Would you like a tour of the store?" Castiel asked, because he couldn't think of another way to lighten the mood; and because he wanted Dean to stay just a while longer.
Oh, there. He'd surprised Dean again, but this time it provoked a shy smile and another lingering gaze. Dean nodded, after a few more seconds.
They walked together, leisurely, chitchatting, through the small shop, taking Castiel's usual path from the built-in shelves of history and science to the freestanding bookcases crammed with novels and poetry; to the children's corner with its low, colorful bins and several refurbished beanbags; to the bookshelves for nature, art, cookbooks, and biographies; to the counter with the cash register and coffee pots, the electric kettle for tea water, and two dozen well used, clean dishes, as well as a glass cake plate holding, this week, a dark chocolate and raspberry layer cake made by someone Ellen bought from.
"I recognize that cake," Dean remarked.
"You must've seen it before I picked it up yesterday." The rich, decadent scent of it had permeated Castiel's car in a way he hoped would never fade.
"Well, yeah. I baked it." Dean tipped his head wryly.
"It's the best cake I've ever tasted," Castiel blurted out. His cheeks went warm as he heard his own voice's volume. More quietly, he said, "I'd pay twice as much as you're charging."
Dean ducked his head. "I'll keep that in mind. And, um. Thanks, Cas."
Castiel had been given a number of nicknames over the years, all of which he'd loathed (even if he'd tolerated his brother's good-natured Cassie as best he could); this one from Dean…he liked.
"Your shop's great," Dean said. "I'll have to come back and buy something to read soon." He did a short double take when he spotted the framed photo by the register.
"That's Jack," Cas said, pointing at the swaddled newborn in his arms. "He's almost six months old now."
"You adopted him after his mom died." Dean's soft voice sounded awed. Off of what was surely shock on Cas's face, he said, "I've heard Ellen talk about you too. I'm sorry for your loss."
Cas's throat had to open again before he could say anything, but it finally did. "Thank you." He swallowed. "You should come back when you have more time to browse the stacks."
"I will." Dean's eyes were kind. He glanced at the clock on the wall and blanched. "Shit, I'm late to empty out the rest of the truck." He hurried, in a somewhat lopsided way, to the back door again and looked back. "Good to meet you, Cas."
"You too." Cas waved, and then Dean was gone.
Cas leaned against the counter and listened to the clock tick. After a few minutes, he shivered and made himself go unpack the deliveries.
-
"Are those delicious?" Cas asked Jack the next morning. "Are those the tastiest fingers ever?"
The baby half grinned at him and kept gnawing on his own fist. A blob of drool dripped onto his chin and Cas wiped it up with a napkin. Jack kicked out his chubby legs and made his bouncy chair bobble. He had just started his usual pre-lunch gossip babble as the bells on the front door jingled.
"Hold that thought," Cas told him and turned to see if his customer needed any assistance.
"I've heard," the customer in question said as he came, a little slowly, up to the counter, "that you sell slices of decent chocolate cake."
"Hello, Dean," Cas said.

You are going to enter the market with a new product, you think your product is very unique. But after launching, you see that no one is buying or using your product. You're thinking, "Why did this happen, it wasn't supposed to happen!"
After a little research, he saw that no one needs this product. So where did you go wrong?
You really haven't done proper market research. So what is market research?
Market research is about collecting information about customer needs and preferences. Put more simply, market research is what you do to find out whether there is a need for the product you're building, and if so, how many people actually need it. Many people think that market research means only research about competitors, but actually the idea is partial.
Suppose a new soft drink is launched in the market. For this, market research should be done by targeting 4/5 categories. General Consumers eg: us, shopkeepers, other brands in the market, wholesalers etc.
Now the question is, how do you collect market research information?
1. Of course there are some techniques for this. The most common method is a survey. A survey consists of a series of questions that you receive information from your potential customers after they answer them.
The survey will contain questions related to exactly the information you need about the customer. Collect the information from the survey and analyze it to see if you got what you wanted to know.
2. Another technique is the interview! In the interview you will speak directly with a customer. This interview can be by phone, mail, video conference or in person. You talk to him and try to understand what he really wants and what you can do to solve his problem. On the one hand, there is market research as well as customer relationship building.
3. Then there is focus group discussion. 7/8 customers are basically brought together in focus group discussion. Then they have to listen to the discussion among themselves and understand where their needs are. Here you don't ask too many questions, let them discuss. By doing this, many opinions are obtained and priorities are understood. Remember, Your customer probably knows more about what's happening in the market than you do.
4. After that is the observation (Observation). Observation means observing the customer's behavior in a natural environment without directly talking to them. In this case, you have to observe and understand what product the customer uses. Or what type of product is preferred.
Then we have to talk about the source of information. Source of Information
Market research information has to be collected from various sources. First is Field Research. You can collect information directly using company sources if you want. Your company can collect information from customers by contacting customers on their own initiative. For this reason, you can follow the techniques mentioned above.
Or you can do desk research. Alternatively, you can collect information from others who have collected the same information or by using the Internet.
You can also get internal information. Many times it is seen that you will get different types of information from those who work in your company. There are various departments in your company, such as: sales team, marketing team, finance team, you can get important information from them too.
You can take external information again. It means taking information from outside sources. Why customers are not buying your product or what your competitors are doing can be external information.
You can learn about the latest industry models by attending executions, trade shows, conferences, networking events. Besides, if you look at other similar industries, you will get a lot of information, especially you have to observe the similar products used by the same target audience in other industries.
So how to plan this market research —
First is to define your object, then Define what information has to be obtained and how to obtain it you need to figure out the best way. Then the data should be collected and the data should be analyzed.
So what are the benefits of market research —
If you want to launch a new product then first of all you need to know about the market size. Market size is an approximate number of your potential customers. By doing market research you will know how many potential customers you have.
If you know the market size, now you need to know what your customer's needs are or what they want. You can never make a good product if you can't identify customer needs. When you have been able to identify the need of the customer, you must make the product according to his need. Market research will help you to know whether your product has been able to fulfill the customer's needs at all.
What are your competitor's strong points, why customers buy their products, why their products are different? These questions will be answered through market research. Once you get the answers to these questions, you can definitely make a better product out of them.
And also it has to be said Market, Products, Customers and Competitors never stand still so at least once a year you have to pay attention to what's happening in your market...

Pharmacy tech here, currently not working in a pharmacy, but the last one I worked at went through hell trying to get meds bc the company that bought our small chain screwed over our wholesaler, who then refused to sell to us for 2 weeks. After that, for a good month, we could only make an order once a week, and only up to a certain price. Getting stimulants (in a COLLEGE TOWN) and opioids? That was a 9-month battle BEFORE this mess started. This was all corporate's fault, and was to say nothing of drug shortages.
Pharmacies are facing major staffing shortages, bc we all get treated like shit and don't get paid enough. Like many occupations, it costs more to go to pharmacy school than ever before, and employers want to pay pharmacists less than ever before. It's to the point where Walgreens will hire fresh our of school pharmacists to be pharmacy managers, and badger them with job offers over a year later. But, to the general public, all the pharmacy does is put pills in bottles, so oftentimes respect is near nothing.
That being said, here's a few things you can do to improve the chances of getting your meds!
1) Call in the refill! Do not rely on autofill! Autofill is trash! Some meds can't even be put on autofill! Try to call them in about 5 days in advance! If the prescription number starts with a 4 or a 2 (RX#4231232, for example), they often can only be filled up to 2 days in advanced, but you can at least ask them to put it in a queue.
2) If your med is uncommon, brand, or expensive, calling in advance goes double! Unless this is a small pharmacy that you have proven your loyalty to, they may not consider 1 patient who may or may not return to them reason enough to stock a $900 drug that almost no one uses. This is especially the case with the newer insulins! So they need time to order it so it will be here by the time you need it!
3) Stimulants and opioids (C2s) have really weird laws. Again, they can only at max be fill 2 days in advance, but I highly suggest calling ahead and checking to make sure you have another prescription on file for next month. Use those exact words- 'on file'. C2s cannot have refills, you basically have a new prescription every month. If they don't have another prescription, YOU are required to reach out to your doctor-the pharmacy legally cannot solicit a prescription from a prescriber. This is why you want to call a few days in advance.
If somehow, you arrive at the pharmacy and they don't have your meds, there are two things you can ask, but these things are courtesies and, based on how busy they are, the pharmacy can say no (this does not apply to meds with prescription numbers starting with 4 or 2):
1) Ask if the prescription can be transferred to another pharmacy. Some chains can check stock of other stores in the area, but if want to try, say, from Kroger to Walmart, it's a big help if you call ahead and see if the Walmart you want has it- that Walmart may sometimes have to request the prescription from your current store, rather than your store just sending it over.
2) Some stores will do partial fills, where they'll give you however many pills they have and owe you the rest. This is based on store policy, however, so please don't push it if they say no.
3) If they don't have it bc you need a new script from your doctor, you can ask for an emergency 3-day fill. Obviously this doesn't work for everything (like ointments), but the idea is to hold you over until the pharmacy gets a new script. The pharmacy is working on it, but please also reach out to your prescriber for the script (yes, even if their phone tree says to do it through the pharmacy)- they tend to be more responsive to their patients.
The pharmacy is not trying to screw you over. We aren't in it for the money. I always told people if I wanted the same pay with less stress, I could stock shelves at Target, and that's *with* my tech certification of (at the time) 8 years (uncertified is literally minimum wage). But we are severely understaffed. Please help us help you.
a fun thing about being on medication that carries warnings like 'if you suddenly stop taking this you might have effects that can range from feeling crummy to psychosis' is that the pharmacy will still go 'haha oopsie we forget to get those pills you order every single month, you can do without for a while right'
#wings does things#i don't know if I even want to go back into pharmacy at this point#the amount of anxiety attacks I had to pretend to be okay through wasn't worth it#the only thing that was worth it was the people who remembered when I was helpful
