These imports (from the Elsie Cobin collection from Paris) are, left to right: Morning, a Schiaparelli silk tweed fringed suit; a Vionnet-red sleeveless redingote over a black cape-dress; Tea, a Robert Piguet black and white cape ensemble; evening, a printed taffeta tunic dress by Mainbocher; All Day (seated) a Mainbocher petticoat frock with a candy-striped taffeta petticoat and a Schiaparelli Directoire reefer; Cocktails, an Alix suit dress, with a red checked organza peplum jacket.

PHOTOSHOOT: MARINA FOR NYLON MAGAZINE
I mean, you guys. How great does Marina look here? For Marina's ever NYLON cover, she paved her own path and went for a more retro look for the magazine.
Photography was done by Damon Baker. Styling by Santa Bevacqua and Shawna Ferguson, glam by Ozzy Salvatierra, hair (look at all those adorable pins!) by Fallon Toni Chavez and lastly, nails by Stephanie Stone.
I love how fresh, confident, retro, fit and coiffed up she is here for this spread.
For the cover look, we got Marina in a Dior Pre-Fall 2015 white, beige, orange & black striped rib stretch woven sweater with turtleneck design.
You know how much I love a good mish-mash of pieces that create one look together.
Her coat and skirt belong to Fall/Winter 2015 collections. The first one is by Holly Fulton and is the Gaze repeat print silk and wool coat with red Mongolian fur collar and cuffs, while the latter hails from the French house of Vionnet and is a plaid maxi skit with electric-blue mohair strips and delicate black lace panels.
Underneath her coat M wears the Fortnight Fall/Winter 2014 Vega demi bra made from their signature chevron jacquard lace!
The third look is from Emilio Pucci's Pre-Fall 2015 lookbook. I could totally see the majority of this collection on Marina for this particular shoot but I'm glad they went with one of my favorite sets!
A striped silk dress with roomy, tunic-like silhouette with lace-up neck in striking shades of magenta, blue and pale grey ($1,520.00 - sold out). Of course, she also rocked the matching flared trousers ($554.00 - sold out).
Throughout the shoot, Marina rocks the Cartier Amulette de Cartier 18k rose-gold band ring with malachite and brilliant-cut diamond of 0.09 carats.
Add one more fun printed ensemble to Marina's spread with NYLON.
This 70s-inspired chevron multi metallic jacquard coat with contrasting black panels ($1,540.00 - sold out) and matching flare pants ($495.00 - sold out) hail from Giambattista Valli's Pre-Fall 2015 lookbook – an ode to 1970s icon Mariana Schiano!
The clever play with prints is truly something to be adored.
For the final look our girl looks more than amazing in this diagonally striped silk jacquard blazer ($2,285.00 - sold out) and culottes pulled straight from Dsquared²'s Pre-Fall 2015 collection!
Underneath, Marina rocked a silk blouse version of DKNY's Laura bandana print flare dress.
Marina injected even more fun into her outfit with the shoe department!
The appropriately named Solar strappy sandals are from Charlotte Olympia. I love the typical Charlotte quirk factor on these stunners!

BurdaStyle June 2023
This issue starts with a sundress on the cover, Dress 103, which is perfect for border prints as it is made of gathered rectangles of fabric. You can opt out of the ruffle on the strap if that is not your style. Dress 110 is another sun dress which they show in yellow with a flounce around top edge and a short feature offers some tips on sewing flounces.
One of the full, illustrated sewing lessons features knit T-Shirt 121 which has a knotted, draped front as you see in dark red, but it doesn’t appear to be a successful design: wrinkles appear in all the photos along the shoulders/neckline; a reminder that draping is tricky especially when it involves a tight fit. Far more successful as a top is the new little sleeveless Blouse Top 123 which has a keyhole neckline front and back and which you see here in a woven of white with black stripes. Also successful is the simple Dress 106 which they show here as a tunic. It needs a fabric with lots of drape to create the graceful look with the large, flowing sleeves. I think it also needs that obi belt in order to cover up the gathered elastic which gives the dress its shape. Elastic gathers always remind me of children’s wear; the obi belt brings the dress some sophistication.
The last image shows the interesting Jacket 112 with a shaped pieced front which closes with an inside and outside tie. They show it as evening wear over a fancy dress which fits with its dramatic shaping.
There are more dresses as you can see from the sketches, three skirts, and some DIY projects. A pair of wide-legged pants which I would advise to cut to a cropped length as otherwise your shoes may catch the hemlines, especially on stairs. There are also plenty of simple tops; if you want a fast project, opt for a simple cut and let an an interesting print fabric do the work for you.
All of the patterns are printed as overlapping lines which you must trace out. The instructions for sewing are written, and not illustrated, but a Glossary does illustrate trickier techniques. You can find it at your local fabric store or newsstand or online here: https://www.burdastyle.com/blog/magazine

i actually really want to tell my story relating to this. so, i have two moms (lesbians), but honestly they’re not as cool and amazing about trans stuff as you’d expect. they’re not particularly bad or anything, they’re just kinda standard liberal boomer parents. they’re more open to queerness than most folks their age, but they’re not actually much more knowledgeable about it.
anyway, after i came out to them as a girl, i had talked to them about wanting to go shopping for clothes. i wanted to go thrifting like my sister does, because she always managed to find cool alt-fashion stuff that i really liked. BUT my parents insisted that my first time shopping for girl clothes should be more special than just going to goodwill, because apparently they thought thrifting was bad (??). so they drove me to the mall, and we went to freaking old navy
idk if this is a normal thing or not (i haven’t been to another one since), but that old navy had the most boring looking clothes imaginable. like it was all fast fashion, plastic belts, and tacky printed tshirts. since nothing really stood out to me, i followed the guidance of my moms, and looked at all the things they suggested. i quickly realized that all the things they were suggesting were freaking mom clothes. a striped blouse, a camisole, a cardigan, some plain jeans. which makes sense, you know, because they’re my moms. but i really didn’t like any of it, because i wanted to dress more like other girls my age did
i ended up picking out a plain white blouse, a pair of leggings, and this weird baggy tunic shirt thing. but the biggest thing i took away from that experience is that i really should stop taking fashion advice from my parents. and you know what? i think that’s an important experience that i think a lot of girls probably share. i’d imagine most moms probably had the same experience with their mom too
my point is, parents of trans girls should probably just treat them the same as they would if she was their cis daughter. which probably entails taking her clothes shopping, but also means you have to listen to her wants and needs, and treat her with respect.
Unfriendly reminder that while you're busy mourning the loss of your childs old gender, claiming you need to mourn the death of your son/daughter, there's a group of boys/girls/enbies scrambling to take your kid clothes shopping, snatching up the chance to take those "first" experiences from you forever. Your sons first fishing trip is gonna be with his best bros, your daughters first makeover is going to be with her girl friends, your kids first camping trip out as themselves is gonna be with the besties. Good luck getting those bonding experiences back. While you're busy trying to guilt-trip your kid with your weird manufactured parental trauma, there's a whole community ready to take your place as the better family.
Your loss, someone elses gain.
#i know this doesn’t entirely follow the main purpose of the post but i hope it’s ok#personal story#trans#transgender#non binary#trans fem#queer#fashion#clothes#lore

How to Style Modest Fashion with Modern Flair
How to Style Modest Fashion with Modern Flair
Introduction Modest fashion is more than just a trend—it’s a lifestyle choice that balances style with comfort and cultural values. As more people embrace this approach, blending modesty with modern fashion has become an art form. At Modestees Store, the fusion of timeless designs and contemporary aesthetics provides endless opportunities to express your style while maintaining modesty. Here are some practical tips and ideas to help you create stylish, modest outfits that are as comfortable as they are fashionable.
1. Layering for Versatility and Style
Layering is a cornerstone of modest fashion, allowing you to adapt your look to different occasions and weather conditions.
Start with basics: Use Modestees' simple, high-quality T-shirts or long-sleeve tops as a foundation.
Add structure: Pair these basics with blazers, cardigans, or lightweight jackets to create a polished look.
Balance proportions: Combine loose tops with slim-fit bottoms or vice versa to maintain a balanced silhouette.
For example, try a fitted Modestees tank top layered under a flowy kimono for an elegant yet casual vibe.
2. Play with Patterns and Textures
Modern modest fashion doesn’t have to be boring. Adding patterns and textures to your outfit can make it visually exciting while staying true to your style.
Mix and match: Pair a striped Modestees shirt with a solid-colored skirt for a balanced look.
Incorporate texture: Opt for cozy hoodies or sweaters from the store, especially those with unique embroidery or subtle patterns.
Statement pieces: Let bold accessories like printed scarves or textured handbags elevate your ensemble.
3. Embrace Loose-Fitting Styles
Loose-fitting clothing is a hallmark of modest fashion, offering comfort without compromising style.
Go oversized: Choose oversized shirts or hoodies for a trendy, relaxed look. Modestees’ unisex hoodies are perfect for this.
Pair with structure: Balance oversized tops with tailored bottoms like straight-leg jeans or fitted skirts.
Choose flowy materials: Fabrics like chiffon or cotton create graceful movement, especially in maxi dresses and skirts.
4. Accessorize to Elevate Your Look
Accessories can transform a simple outfit into a stylish statement.
Use belts: Cinch your waist with a belt over a long tunic or dress for added definition.
Layer jewelry: Pair delicate necklaces with modest tops or stack bracelets to add a touch of glam.
Choose statement footwear: Chunky boots, sleek sneakers, or classic flats can tie your whole outfit together.
For example, Modestees’ minimalist designs pair beautifully with bold, metallic accessories for a chic and modern touch.
5. Incorporate Neutral and Bold Colors
Color choices play a significant role in achieving a modern yet modest look.
Stick to neutrals: Shades like beige, white, black, and gray form the foundation of a versatile wardrobe.
Add pops of color: Pair a neutral base outfit with bold accessories, like a bright scarf or statement bag.
Experiment with monochrome: Wear varying shades of one color for a sleek, cohesive look.
Modestees offers a variety of clothing in neutral tones and bold prints, making it easy to find the perfect pieces for your style.
6. Modest Activewear and Casual Looks
For active days or casual outings, modest fashion doesn’t mean compromising on practicality.
Activewear options: Modestees’ comfortable, breathable T-shirts are great for layering with lightweight hoodies for workouts or hikes.
Everyday casual: Pair a graphic T-shirt with wide-leg pants or culottes for a relaxed, modest look.
Comfortable footwear: Choose practical sneakers or slip-ons that complement your outfit while ensuring comfort.
7. Highlighting Modestees Store’s Unique Offerings
One of the best parts of shopping at Modestees Store is the wide range of stylish yet modest designs available.

Being inspired by the tribal community the designs are a collection of beads in pop neon colours, shells, and indigenous neck rings in brass. The silhouettes showcased relaxed pants, flowcoats, kaftans and dresses. The collection also contained denim with lavish threadwork and embroidery splashed across pieces to match the tribal vibe. Anamika topped whites, pastels, reds, and pinks with pop-coloured accessories and gathered a huge fan base.

Designer Rajdeep’s collection can be summarized as a ‘Celebration of Prints’. His designs generously incorporated a blend of European motifs and desi prints.
