yesterday I started a new job and I was extremely tired afterward, but I wanted to celebrate with R. this achievement and so I asked him out for a whiskey sour in our favorite place.

as soon as we entered the bar, my favorite song by Radiohead started playing and it felt so wholesome I thought it was a movie scene.

R. was holding my hand, he said he is really proud of me. I started crying like a baby just there. couldn't hold it inside anymore. he is my chosen family.

honestly?

I think I am proud of myself too for the first time.

it's not the achievement itself, it is that I have never given up and I am brave and fearless to a scary extent.

life wasn't kind to me, but sometimes you can make beautiful things out of rage.

Here's a recipe for an alcohol-free whiskey sour with Feragaia:

Ingredients:

2 oz Feragaia

1 oz lemon juice

1/2 oz simple syrup

1 dash Angostura bitters

Ice

Lemon wheel, for garnish

Instructions:

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.

Add Feragaia, lemon juice, simple syrup, and bitters to the shaker.

Shake well until chilled.

Strain the mixture into a glass filled with ice.

Garnish with a lemon wheel.

Enjoy your alcohol-free whiskey sour with Feragaia!

It’s National Whiskey Sour Day

The first mention of the #WhiskeySour was in 1862 from The Bartenders Guide by Jerry Thomas. However, it’s likely that people were drinking whiskey sours long before this. Like so many spirits and cocktails, we can thank sailors for this delicious cocktail.

Traveling by sea was difficult in the 1800s. It was particularly difficult to find clean, fresh water on long voyages, making whiskey, rum and other spirits very popular with sailors. In addition to the lack of clean water, many sailors suffered from scurvy, a potentially fatal disease that was caused, in part, by a lack of vitamin C.

Sailors would take huge amounts of lemons, limes and oranges on voyages. They would also bring alcohol, and the best alcohol was kept at room temperature, like whiskey and bourbon.

The whiskey sour was a perfect combination of citrus, to combat scurvy, and whiskey to quench the sailor’s thirst.

For years whiskey sours were enjoyed by sailors on the sea. Once it finally made it to the shores of the United States, its popularity continued. Bartenders today often add egg white to create the classic foam texture. Many variations have also been created over the years, the most famous of which is the New York Sour. The New York Sour is the classic whiskey sour, with a splash of red wine on top.

Miserably failed dry January because I went to the movie theater with my friend T. and the movie was so bad that we ended up craving a deepness and a drink.

Gladly the cinema we went to is really close to my favorite cocktails bar and we opted to got there.

I had the pleasure to break my soberness with one of the best whiskey sours I have ever had, and I am also definitely glad to have spent hours blabbing about aliens, the generational gap, artificial intelligence, and human relationships.

The only downside is that we ended up smelling like ashtrays so intensely it made me gag, and I am a smoker.

Sometimes I don't get this Berlin thing of smoking inside, but some other days I am incredibly grateful for it.

A blog where I posted photos (taken with a flip phone) of found grocery lists, which didn't last because I didn't find enough grocery lists

A blog where I took a flip phone photo of the chalk board in the men's room at work every morning and posted it (the whole premise was that, given a chalkboard, men will always draw dicks)

A blog where I posted more flip phone photos (this was all pre-smartphone, okay?) of wild recipes from the 40s-70s found in my vintage cookbook collection

A fitspo blog, hilariously out of character and fairly short-lived

A blog that was just cool pictures reblogged from other people's tumblrs

A secondary blog of cool pictures reblogged from other people's tumblrs after some guy got real weird with me on the first one

A super sad-sack blog of old movie clips and melancholy pictures I started after I got my heart extremely broken, which just had its 12 year anniversary, apparently (cheers.)

Anyway, apologies to whoever has the real, non-hyphened whiskeysoured tumblr, but that was my [redacted] handle like 25 years ago and I couldn't think of anything new because my brain is very old now, possibly on its last legs, honestly.
