Random thing about James Somerton's videos since everyone is talking about them right now. I watched a few of his videos a while back and by a while back I mean like 2 years ago but I stopped watching because his videos just lacked passion I guess. Like they felt more like someone being forced to read off a script for a topic they didn't care about and now with the context of most of his work being plagiarized and about topics he sometimes knew very little about that vibe makes a whole lot more sense.

one of my least favorite tweets of all time is that one that was like “yeah idk how people determine if a movie is good or not. if i had fun watching it then it was a good movie.” i wasn’t even mad about it, i was just alienated and confused. like what do you mean. when i like a movie or smth i do nothing but roll it around in my head for days on end. which tends to result in at least one coherent thought about WHY i found it compelling. do some people not do this. i had heard that some people will just watch a movie and go “that was nice” and move on with their lives but i thought they were cryptids or smth

I actually appreciate you have a sirry tag, and honestly, I think sirry would totally work, given how Harry’s measure of hotness canonically is… Sirius. I’ve gone down the rabbit hole on ao3 with that tag, and there’s also some amazing fics there! But, my problem with most sirry fics is that they try to sanitize it to make it more acceptable, with Harry becoming a girl, traveling back in time etc. Just give me the age difference, set in canon timeline fics, where Sirius and Harry are happy together after the war, and everyone who has a problem with this (looking at you Molly Weasley) is ignored…

Yes, exactly! Although this is a problem with all fics in this fandom where a character from Sirius's generation is paired with a character from Harry's generation. Everyone tries to make it "acceptable" by using time travel to make the characters the same age. No! Lean into the taboo! Give us the age gap! Give us everyone being weirded out by the relationship!

And yes, Harry absolutely has a crush on his hot godfather and makes sure to mention how attractive Sirius is at least once in every book. 😂 Usually I write the crush off as an innocent one, but you're right.............it does make for excellent fodder for Sirry content........

Marauders fans love to talk about misogyny and the villanization of female characters but why is it never talked about when it's mary and wolfstar or nymphadora and wolfstar??

Like the amount of hate they got and still get is gross. Like just bc it's wolfstar doesn't mean you can be misogynistic.

Also the double standard of saying that jegulus raising harry aus are bad while loving the wolfstar raising teddy aus.

because sometimes there are invisible tests and invisible rules and you're just supposed to ... know the rule. someone you thought of as a friend asks you for book recommendations, so you give her a list of like 30 books, each with a brief blurb and why you like it. later, you find out she screenshotted the list and send it out to a group chat with the note: what an absolute freak can you believe this. you saw the responses: emojis where people are rolling over laughing. too much and obsessive and actually kind of creepy in the comments. you thought you'd been doing the right thing. she'd asked, right? an invisible rule: this is what happens when you get too excited.

you aren't supposed to laugh at your own jokes, so you don't, but then you're too serious. you're not supposed to be too loud, but then people say you're too quiet. you aren't supposed to get passionate about things, but then you're shy, boring. you aren't supposed to talk too much, but then people are mad when you're not good at replying.

you fold yourself into a prettier paper crane. since you never know what is "selfish" and what is "charity," you give yourself over, fully. you'd rather be empty and over-generous - you'd rather eat your own boundaries than have even one person believe that you're mean. since you don't know what the thing is that will make them hate you, you simply scrub yourself clean of any form of roughness. if you are perfect and smiling and funny, they can love you. if you are always there for them and never admit what's happening and never mention your past and never make them uncomfortable - you can make up for it. you can earn it.

don't fuck up. they're all testing you, always. they're tolerating you. whatever secret club happened, over a summer somewhere - during some activity you didn't get to attend - everyone else just... figured it out. like they got some kind of award or examination that allowed them to know how-to-be-normal. how to fit. and for the rest of your life, you've been playing catch-up. you've been trying to prove that - haha! you get it! that the joke they're telling, the people they are, the manual they got- yeah, you've totally read it.

if you can just divide yourself in two - the lovable one, and the one that is you - you can do this. you can walk the line. they can laugh and accept you. if you are always-balanced, never burdensome, a delight to have in class, champagne and glittering and never gawky or florescent or god-forbid cringe: you can get away with it.

you stare at your therapist, whom you can make jokes with, and who laughs at your jokes, because you are so fucking good at people-pleasing. you smile at her, and she asks you how you're doing, and you automatically say i'm good, thanks, how are you? while the answer swims somewhere in your little lizard brain:

how long have you been doing this now? mastering the art of your body and mind like you're piloting a puppet. has it worked? what do you mean that all you feel is... just exhausted. pick yourself up, the tightrope has no net. after all, you're cheating, somehow, but nobody seems to know you actually flunked the test. it's working!

AuDHD is so funny sometimes like what do you mean my hyperfixations/special interests will last for years on end or possibly forever but they will cycle out every month or two with absolutely no transitional period or warning. like i will think about the same topic every day obsessively for 46 days in a row and on the 47th day with no visible cause adhd brain goes "ok! bored of that now" and autism brain goes "dw i got something queued up for ya" and i blast into full blown obsession on some other topic whose mental file folders haven't opened in 9 months. brain's out here treating hyperfixations like a crop rotation. once the dopamine runs out it cycles in another one but once something's in the rotation it never ever leaves. last summer we brought in one from when i was 11. it's so funny to me but frustrating too bc like. i cannot stress enough my inability to predict or control this. or how completely abrupt and random it can be

Hello! A small addition as a disabled, mobility aid user who is friends with other mobility aid users, if someone drops their mobility aid, please please please ask if we would like help getting it first and do not just grab it. For me, not knowing a strangers intentions as they grab an extension of my body that helps me move is terrifying, as I don't know if they are going to actually return it. + Offering first instead of insisting on helping without warning offers more agency in my life that is not often afforded to me.

If someone drops something by you, pick it up or help them pick it up. This goes double if people drop a bunch of stuff that scatters everywhere, as it's more likely they're going to need help picking it up.

Some people might have back or joint issues that make bending over to pick things up more difficult or more painful. But even if someone has a healthy back and joints it's still always nice to know the people around you are willing to help you even with the small stuff, and it's a kind gesture that can make someone's day a little nicer.

last time i saw my mom before coming home for the holidays i told her about my poetry professor. she made me pull up a photo and when she saw he was old-guy hot she rolled her eyes hard. she said: Be Careful Alone With Him. he likes my writing but i think it's for the wrong reasons. my mother raised me with a healthy distrust of male authority and also specifically poets. he misunderstands things i think are obvious, laughs when he shouldn't. last time i got a poem peer reviewed he kinda ripped me up and a guy in my class handed me a note that said D.B. Is Trippin -- You Make Sense. he has a good taste in books and said he would fight for me to get into the best writing courses. he likes me because i am just like my dad and i can talk to him like a gen-xer. sometimes i want his approval in a way that makes me feel stupid. i think he might be an asshole. he isn't that smart. he laughs really hard at his own jokes. a girl in my dorm has him for a different class period and she said he treated her like a child when they disagreed

Dungeon Meshi modern au where both Laois and Falin are food vloggers. Laois is always travelling to remote areas and cultures to try the most "extreme" foods and bring them to light. He's known as the guy who will drink blood and slam a still wriggling bug just to comment on it's nutty flavor. Meanwhile Falin is visiting long-standing eateries and sharing the stories behind local cuisine.

Nobody actually puts together they're siblings (in part due to wildly different viewerbases) until Falin in one video mentions how she enjoys eating insects and the comment section is full of folks asking her to "collab with the bug guy". Her very next video is her and Laois smiling infront of a mukbang style platter of insects and she introduces him as her brother.
