“Man’s best dork”. That would accurately describe Jade. My adventures with Jade have not always been easy. She has been a special case. Her problems span from medical to mental. This dog is one of the most intelligent creatures I have ever had the pleasure of meeting, but she has also been one of the most challenging. I love her to death, and she is majorly spoiled. She’s provided many lessons for my life and although not all of our stories are happy, her presence is a very positive one.

Introduction

When you work in a veterinary clinic, the days can be chaotic. It’s easy to get caught up in the fast-paced setting. Often times, the day comes with early starts, late nights, short breaks, and a whole lot of emotional and physical stress.

Answering the clinic phone happens to be one of those tasks that you either hate or love. I happen to enjoy it. Not everyone you talk to is kind, nor are they always sane. But, it gives you a break from the routine crazy of the day. The phone happened to be ringing off the hook today. I took my moment to answer it. The voice on the other end shouted out, “I have a case of the wheezing whippets!” It caught me off guard, and I had to repeat her words to make sure I had heard it correctly. “Yep,” she replied. “Three wheezing whippets!” I made sure to answer her questions and we shared a good laugh. Her humor about the situation made me smile. Needless to say, her whippets would be taken care of and things ended up alright.

That little phrase reminded me to enjoy the little things in life. My life, like many others, has not been easy. It was never simple, but it has certainly been harder in recent years as I’ve faced life and the world head-on. However, for every hardship I’ve faced, I’ve come back stronger, wiser, and eventually happier. I could not have gone through life without the help of many people, animals, and family. Without them, I could not be me.

I wanted to share those stories and adventures with the world. If you are anything like me (an average human being), then many of you will be able to relate to these hardships and over-comings. My goal is to bring you joy in those difficult days, remind you that it’s okay to cry, and to show you that there is more to life than pain and frustration.

I also want this to be a place where others can share their experiences. We are all human beings and all have the ability to share, connect, and understand one another - regardless of age, identity, or any other discriminating factor.

Since animals are highly capable of this, I will be using them frequently to share the valuable lessons they have taught me. I hope we can all continue to learn from them and grow as a whole. This world needs a little more good in it.
