the justification for our coming to tural and meddling in politics is . it smacks of "we're sidestepping the problematic aspects now no need to think abt this too deeply" in my opinion. but i'm not.. opposed to it? it succeeds in making me not feel dread for dawntrail, i guess. i'm actually pretty excited to see where the story will go

back to wuk lamat. she's not really all that, is she? despite all the bluster and her status. i think the devs have put a lot more effort in the cutscenes this patch and you really get the sense that she's in over her head here. i like that tbh. a weakling who nevertheless chooses to tank is a novel concept for me, i'm so into it. wuk lamat feels like a synthesis btwn "yda" the false identity and lyse the real person underneath, they took the traits between these two and made them into one girl. my perfect waifu. there will definitely be differences btwn wuk lamat and lyse (the lack of her immigrant narrative, for one) and i'm excited to have another flavor of my favorite girl

and then there's... the scions. i am beyond happy to see that estinien's journey to tural is just him having seen the east and north and south.. ok let's go west. KING. my beloved hobo i'm so happy for him. urianger and thancred also look to be having a good time, good for them, have a great time with your thing fellas. y'shtola has been unseen? at all? is she sitting this expansion out without a word, damn unexpected for the poster girl innit? though as for the one who is sitting out with a word. hmm. hmmfhphfhgfhdgshfh sorry. sorry for my schadenfreude. but this is a very, very funny way to go for g'raha. i thought the funniest thing the devs could do was "somehow zenos has returned" but this is so much fucking funnier. oh my sides. g'raha doesn't deserve this, probably (though i have been feeling that he's a bit redundant now, sorry to his fans) but if i'm getting krile in his place i sure as fuck won't complain lol. but then there's the twins. yeah i guess they do have to join us. for the first time ever i'm not happy about alphinaud being included. his character being turned into a garlemald simp is just. ugh. i have nothing objective to say abt that i just do not want it

well whatever. with this setup i'm hyped to see the scions divided and possibly fighting each other. my prediction is that the miqo'te machinist in the poster is koana-niisan and he's the one who hired thancred and urianger. which might leave the mamool ja guy as the one with imperial ambitions whom we must stop. err that would be a bad look... i sure hope not. my dread for dawntrail might be coming back

If Varian is a nicknamer, what are the nicknames he's come up with for the Scions or any other NPCs who come to mind?

Got long, also some spoilers, so here's a cut

Alisaie- Starts off calling her 'red' for the hair ribbon (the only way he can tell the twins apart at a glance at first) and occasionally , progresses to 'kid' and then just her name or Ali. Sometimes still calls her 'kid,' especially when she's goin' through it, as in 'c'mere, kid' [hug]

Alphinaud- Starts off calling him 'fancy lad', by late ARR he more often calls him 'General' with mild if obvious sarcasm (the unheard 'Armchair' going before it still very apparent) but by the time Heavensward starts up properly he is calling him 'kid' like Alisaie. By late Heavensward it's Alphy more often than not. Once or twice he slips and just calls him 'son'.

Krile- Professor. Where Varian comes from, 'Professor' is something you call a know-it-all busybody more often than a career descriptor. Krile doesn't need to know that. Alisaie has definitely picked up on it. Alphinaud would be scandalized if he figured it out.

Lyse- Basically calls her by whatever name she's going by at the time- though in ARR he might refer to her as 'knuckles' in an approving sort of way, like he listens to Papalymo's plan, hears that her alternative plan is to go in swinging, and says 'I'm with knuckles, on this one.' By Stormblood he invariably uses her name in the slightly awkward way you might with a crush.

Papalymo- Mostly called him by his name, though when he'd be particularly hard on Yda, Varian might take her aside like 'You gonna let that pompous runt talk to you like that?'

Tataru- What do you call the heart of your weird organization who throws her entire everything into keeping it going, learning new skills the way people pick up cool rocks? You call her whatever the hell she wants.

Thancred- When Thancred is on his game (coming to the rescue at critical moments, infiltrating enemy strongholds), Varian calls him by his name. When Thancred is being a horndog or drinking heavily, Varian tends to refer to him as 'Slops'. Like, grabbing his shoulder and hoisting him onto a chair so he doesn't drown in his own vomit, 'Come on, slops, keep it together'.

Urianger- Has a number of nicknames. Most of them revolve around how fucking odd he is. His penchant for Batmanning into a scene when no one knew he was even around has earned him the nickname 'Wigs' as in he wigs people the fuck out.

Y'shtola- Has never been anything but 'Y'shtola'. Varian respects her and low-key is afraid of the results if he tried to give her a nickname. Best case scenario, she retaliates proportionally, and if 'little sun' is any indication, people don't come back from Y'shtola nicknames.

Aymeric- Starts off with low-key contempt, something with the same in-universe ring as 'choir boy' but also 'fucking cop', not sure exactly what it'd be. But by the time the man is charging into a fortified position to rescue hostages all while tearing open his very fresh near-mortal wounds, there's no fucking way Varian says anything but his name with anything less than maximum respect.

Edmont- Calls him 'chops' in conversation with Alphinaud and Tataru like once (the facial hair), but quickly grows to really respect and admire him and by the end of Heavensward has to resist the urge to call him 'dad' sometimes.

Estinien- Dragoon abilities mean he gets nicknamed 'hops' a lot of the time. Also somewhat disparagingly calls him 'killer'; as in he recognizes a fellow Rabid Dog but doesn't feel like Estinien has enough self-awareness or restraint to really manage that without getting people hurt. He grows into it though, and thus gets upgraded- 'Estinien' when directly addressed, 'surly' when being referenced (only in his own presence- like 'Alphy, you and surly go check out the path').

Haurchefant- The man literally keeps charging in to the rescue on a chocobo. Varian starts jokingly calling him 'hero.' Then it's not a joke. Then it's really not a joke.

Well, this is a pleasant surprise to get! Thank you for asking about her - I love her quite a bit, even if I'm not openly vocal about her. BUCKLE UP. :D

Possible MSQ spoilers below.

Xerain is a Seeker of the Moon min-height Miqo. She's deep grey, almost black, with heterochromia eyes (one gold, one white.) with silver hair tips. She is a bit more feral looking than other miqo, what with having digigrade legs, claws, and velvet-like fur that covers her. If she removed her gloves/clothes, you'd see a line of fur up her spine from her tail, tufts of fur on her joints, etc. Her hair, usually tied up to keep it out of her face, is nothing but 80's megafauna catgirl poof hair. She is, canonically, a monk.

She doesn't have miqo tribe markings on her face because she was never in any tribe.

It's suspected that her parents were miqo and hrothgar, but its unclear who was who. She never met her parents, nor does she remember them. Her earliest memory was finding herself as a child in the desert outside Ul'Dah fending herself from the sandworms out there and stealing food/water from travelers. Hamon found her on one of his girl-spying adventures and, after seeing her square up against a worm many times her size with nothing more than her claws and teeth, took her in as a daughter... sort of. She grew up in the Pugilist's Guild before heading out on her big WoL adventure.

The scars across her nose and face are from her first encounter with Zenos. It was a painful reminder to never underestimate an opponent.

She tends to wear as little clothing as she can get away with. She finds it annoying and troublesome, but society says you gotta, so she does bare minimum. She is always never wearing underwear and her toga-like robes she wears has one breast exposed. The scions have gave up trying to force her into clothes, though Tataru tries. At this point, they don't even notice anymore, but people she's meeting for the first time are always a bit thrown off by whatever is happening.

Her previous life was being a very large, tall, and muscular Pandemonium creature wrangler - she was one of the ones you called on to drag troublesome creatures into the place to be handled further by Wardens. She lost an eye during one of these encounters (Hence her white eye now - she can see out of it, it's just aesthetic as Xerain.). Her coming back as a short, 'dim-witted' catgirl is all an act. She acts like an airhead and will indulge in more cat-like behaviors to get a reactions from others (Like sitting down and licking her toes clean like a housecat would), but she's actually very smart and very shrewd. The part of her that is still Azem wants to enjoy having a life without any cares or responsibilities, and anything that risks exposing that just has to be removed before the gig is up. In a way, 'Xerain' doesn't exist. It's just a fully aware Azem playing a part for fun and to avoid having to do responsible things unless they really have to.

The only person to figure out she's more than what she lets on is Zenos. Ultimately, this is why she couldn't let him leave alive, however. He knew too much so as fun as it was, he had to go. It was too risky for him to talk or use that knowledge against her.

She does, however, really like fish. There's a running joke she keeps a ton of dried fish in her pockets, along with whatever cool rocks and leaves she finds.

Her and Estinien are bros, and will often spar or give the other one a hard time, but all in good fun. They will, however, get violent with each other over the last squid skewer. G'raha and her are an item, but I'm suspicious it's because he's so easy to bully and embarrass and she gets a kick out of it.

She has a home in Kugane because the fish there is the freshest.

I dreamt I was playing the new msq stuff

it was all the main guys in thavnair doing whatever I guess they all got back from the void stuff already or were having a break idk

and then aymeric showed up and said (to me specifically. while I was standing in line to buy a hotdog or whatever the thavnair equivalent is) that he wanted to propose to estinien and needed my help and laid out this absurd plan where he was gonna stage some kid being in trouble so estinien would go save him or something?? and I was like dude tf just go talk to him what is all this also have u even spoken to each other in like however long and he was like LISTEN NO I GOTTA DO THIS so I was like okay fine and we went and found some random kid but he ALSO thought it was dumb as balls and just ran off with the money we bribed him with

he was in disguise also and it wasn't a very good disguise bc his whole face was still visible

he basically just was wearing different clothes and a hat

the outfit kinda looked like zelda's battle dress from twilight princess tho it actually looked pretty cool it just wasn't a good disguise at all

on further thought I think the kid just decided his very convincing falling out of tree performance was worth what he had been paid and didn't deign to also stay on the ground pretending to be injured afterward. he was like ok I did what I was told mission accomplished I'm outta here

So I finally got the courage to post about her. I tried to stay away from the actual game story since I don't remember much about ARR and Heavensward despite playing them and I only watched Stormblood and Shadowbringers. I might play the free trial soon so I can refresh my knowledge of the first 2 expansions but I don't think I can play the others so if I get anything wrong main story and lore wise just let me know.

These are just general stuff and headcanons but it might contain SPOILERS FOR 5.x

Nameday: 22nd sun of the second umbral moon

Profession: Apothecary and healer

Canon class: WHM/BLM (it's the classic FF sage but there's no sage in FFXIV)

Headcanons: again they're just general stuff and they contain SPOILERS FOR 5.x (I'm on my phone so idk how to put the under a cut)

Arciela/WoL:

She sat out on her adventure because she wanted to explore the world and learn more; to expand her horizontals horizons as a healer and apothecary and if becoming the Warrior of Light and saving the world was the way to do it then she would embrace her new role and duties in order to achieve her goals (she's also reckless and would never say no to an adventure even if there was a chance that she might die in the process)

Self proclaimed culinarian. After everything is over, she dreams of opening her own restaurant and bakery.

Relationship with her allies:

Thancred and Estinien are her closest friends and drinking buddies

Papalymo was like a big brother to her (he reminded her of her own brother) and helped her learn new black magic spells and perfect the ones she already knew.

Urianger and Y'shtola are her "nerd friends" as Thancred dubbed them. She still has trouble understanding certain things that Urianger says.

Ryne and the twins are like little siblings to her and she enjoys spending time with them and teaching them things. She taught Ryne how to make Thancred's favorite foods and desserts and she goes swimming with Alisaie (I can't think of anything she might do with Alphinaud except for being nerds together).

She's very close with Aymeric, especially after the dinner (and a certain culinary adventure that prompted Arciela to work on creating the best honey cake the lord commander will ever taste.)

She became good friends with Cirina after spending an entire day trying new recipehs recipes and making the mol taste test them for her (iirc Cirina liked food, right?)

X'rhun Tia is like a father/cool uncle to her and they're super close. He's also her favorite job/class teacher. She appreciats his patience when he was teaching her red magic. While she didn't struggle in the casting part, she did struggle with the fencing part, especially since it was completely different from the dark knight style that she learned from her father (I'm working on her father and I have this idea that he was once an Ishgardian dark knight but I'll wait until I either play or watch Heavensward to decide if I want to go with it or not)

Other good friends of hers are: Kan-E-Senna (who helped her with her white magic), Haurchefant (who was like a brother to her. His death still haunts her) and the Fortemps in general, G'raha Tia (he's adorable and she has a very hard time containing the urge to touch his ears and tail. She's doing a good job so far), Moren (she spent most of her time in the Crystarium in the library with him), Cid, Hilda and Unukalhai.

Triggers for remembering her past life in Amaurot:

The deaths of Lahabrea, Emet Selch and Elidibus and meeting Hythlodaeus.

Lahabrea's death caused her to vaguely remember her time in Akadaemia Anyder and her work as an alchemist but she dismissed the memories as dreams and didn't think much of it since it was similar to her work as an apothecary. She didn't remember him but she felt that they were connected somehow.

Meeting Hythlodaeus for first time triggered memories of Amaurot in general but she also dismissed them as an effect of being there and talking to him.

The death of Emet Selch caused the first bang of memories for she remembered her time and true relationship with him. The memories and the new knowledge brought about hesitation and uncertainty, doubts and immense guilt.

Meeting Hythlodaeus the second time in 5.3 and collecting "stars" triggered memories of her time as Azem and the final days. His presence somehow made it easier to handle the new memories.

She didn't remember Elidibus prior to fighting him in the Seat of Sacrifice, but she remembered enough to know that they were once connected and thus she found the resolve to kill him and end his suffering, for both his sake and the sake of the world.

It was only when he regained his memories that hers started to come back more clearly to her.

The hope that her friends are now resting in peace, free of Zodiark's tempering was the only thing that kept her from crumbling under the weight of her memories and guilt.

Amaurotian Arciela/Anais/Azem/The Alchemist:

Just general stuff to explain certain things from above:

Before becoming Azem she was a professor in Akadaemia Anyder and an accomplished scholar in the field of pharmacy (potions and herbal medicine; or this is what I think is their equivalent of pharmacy at least).

A friend of Emet Selch, Lahabrea, Hythlodaeus and Elidibus. (I ship her with both Lahabrea and Emet Selch so nothing's official until I decide on one of them or create multiple time lines).

Childhood friends with Lahabrea. They've known each other for so long, attended the academy and became professors together. They're probably the only ones who actually listen to and show interest in each other's rambles (just let them be nerds together)

She's also a self proclaimed culinarian, which made her delve into the field of botany and create certain herbs and trees including cocoa trees which lead to her creating chocolate.

During their days as students, Anais would wake Lahabrea up in the middle of the night or drag him away from whatever he was doing to accompany her to the kitchen so she would try to make the new recipe she came up with. He'd complain the entire time she's cooking but at least she could count on him to give her his honest opinion. After tasting the new recipe, he'd either complain some more, insult her ability to cook and just leave if he doesn't like it or he'd ask for seconds... And thirds...

Her favorite pass time is annoying and pranking Lahabrea and Emet Selch. Sometimes, she would team up with Hythlodaeus and they're an absolute menace together.

Lahabrea's reactions are the best because he never sees anything coming since he's always too engrossed in some book to pay attention to anything else and thus, he's always startled, surprised and falls for all of her pranks. And he's ALWAYS extremely pissed off afterwards and they'll be subjected to one of his famous rants and lectures. Hythlodaeus suffers. Anais has known him long enough to get used to them and thus they have no effect on her (and one would think that he's known her long enough to learn to not let his guard down around her when she's bored). It's always worth it though.

Emet Selch's reactions are the second best, because whether the prank works or not, he'll complain about it because he's dramatic. He gets his revenge by pranking them later.

Much like Arciela, Anais took the chance of becoming Azem and traveling the world to gain more knowledge on her field of studies.

There was so much cool shit in the PLL this morning. I kind of already screamed about it with my pals on discord, but I'll scream here too, because I took tons of screenshots for our FC discord.

I'm really curious to see what the new relic weapons look like. I'm happy they're at least finding a way to get more people to actually do the Hildibrand content. There's so much fun stuff hidden in there, including one of my all time favorite trials (Kugane Ohashi)!

I know a couple of us were speculating that tho Omicrons were probably gonna be a tribal quest hub. There was NO WAY they'd leave that little cafe area alone. I'm really kind of interested to see what it ends up looking like in the end.

I'm not quite sure how I feel about savage being pushed back a week. On the one hand, it gives us time to get some gear from normal and kind of look into mechanics a little bit. On the other, it will make getting gear in normal a little tougher if EVERYONE is prioritizing certain things.

I probably won't do unreal in 6.2 lmao. I hate Sephirot EX as it is, I cannot imagine how awful it will be in party finder and I know half of our usual crew already said they're not doing Sephi. I have the gil to just buy whatever new mount they come up with, so I don't really care either way lmao.

NGL, I still haven't done ARR duty support stuff, but just the fact that Ysayle, Alphinaud, and Estinien are your support for the Aery is pretty neat.

Steps of Faith being made into a solo instance is everything I could ask for. Actually, it's exactly what I asked for in voice the other day when we got this in roulette lmao. And Thornmarch being revamped will be nice. I do hope they don't change the EX because I really do like it, but I'll be glad to not have to deal with normal moogles in trial roulette.

Variant dungeons sound cool. I like that you have to replay it multiple times to get the full story. But what I'm REALLY interested in are the savage Another Dungeons. Me and my friend have been waiting on like, harder dungeon content, so this feels like it'll be a ton of fun.

Being able to request repairs in duties will be so good. I can't tell you how many times we've had to back out of a duty because someone's gear broke during prog. It was ESPECIALLY bad whenever we'd reach the door boss and couldn't continue progging, but backing out also meant having to redo the first phase.

Doubling the glam dresser will be nice. I'm still not at 400, but I'm getting there, so having it pushed to 800 will be a relief lmao.
