Yujikiri is the main focus, and the poly stuff comes more towards the epilogue. How does it all play out? You will just have to wait and see!}} _ _ _
OBLIGATORY MAJOR SPOILER WARNING FOR Sword Art Online: Alicization Arc! Do not READ if you haven't finished the first half of the Alicization Arc! MAJOR CHARACTER DEATH INCOMING! YOUVE BEEN WARNED!
_ _ _
Tumblr media
There’s a hollow fracture in Kirito’s chest, a fissure stretched all the way vertically across the middle, it is wide and raw. Bleeding, red, agonizing and burning, yet all at once so cold.
So cold…
It was as if a blade of ice, so cold it burned, but so hot it was cold- had flayed him open. Cleaving through skin, muscle and finally carving against the bones within his ribcage. Where it punctured downwards, rending them until broken, and struck true into his heart.
The frigid point piercing and plunging its serrated edge so deeply into it, that it found his very core, his soul and froze it over.
There was a hollow fracture in Kirito’s chest. It was far deeper than it was wide, like a black abyss, swallowing him up whole, devouring everything he had left to give.
A murky nebulous, akin to the night sky, yet there was no light to guide his way, no stars speckling the canvas of the lonely void to bring him back home.
Why? Why wasn’t there any light?
He knew why.
His light, his star, it had burnt out like a supernova and had left him all alone.
Isolated and suffocating in his own despair. That’s right… his heart had been plundered and his soul pillaged, and all that remained was ice.
Kirito’s home didn’t exist anymore.
There was a hollow fracture in Kirito’s chest and in that hollow space between his bloodied and shattered ribs, was a single blue rose.
It was withering, yet a sheen of glistening frost had crept over the surface of its beautiful petals.
Beautiful just like…him.
Beautiful it might be it was still just as ugly.
A merciless constant reminder of being so brutally bereaved of his beloved partner.
It was as if the frost had frozen Kirito in time. Forcing him to remain in that exact heart-stopping and spine-chilling moment. When the sword, that was responsible for this fractured and icy hollow in his chest, shattered and then dispelled and released his precious partner. Leaving him to plummet to the floor.
Leaving him all but lifeless, his crimson cruor pooling like a sea of ruby rose petals underneath him. His frame severed into two halves, leaving him a shell of something once whole, by the sword of the ruthless ruler of the Underworld.
“EUGEOOOOOOOO!!!”
The guttural and wounded growl, of Eugeo’s name, detonated like a violent gale. It surged rapidly out from Kirito’s vocals like a swirling storm and echoed within those damn forsaken walls.
And she with her long lavender hair, fitted with a dress as white as snow, looked on.
Outwardly, one might mistake her for a holy being, innocent and pure, full of love and light.
If Kirito didn’t know better, he would have thought her an angel sent from the heavens above to collect Eugeo.
But the angel was a devil in disguise, staring mockingly and sneering with a smirk so vile that Kirito had come to despise it and her.
That despicable woman, no not a woman, she was naught but a callous and cold creature with no capacity for loving anyone put herself. She had love for herself alone and her insatiable bloodlust for control over all.
The Administrator, Quinella, were she still alive now- Kirito would have hunted her to the ends of the Underworld and he would have slaughtered her. Then he would have used system commands to bring her back and slaughter her again, and again, and again…
Over and over… until not a trace of her fluctlight remained. He would raze her away, permanently deleting her from the system, and by the time he was finished it would be as if she’d never existed.
Yet nothing could be done now. Though Kirito’s body was in the present, his heart and soul and sense of self and time had been frozen in place. It froze over within an impenetrable barrier, an icy cage. Of which the only key that could set him free had long since melted away. Leaving it forever locked and leaving him in everlasting lament.
A part of him had died with Eugeo that day. That dark and dismal day, the day that Kirito’s star went out, the day that his precious little Eugeo…
His best friend and his ever-loyal partner, his everything…
His beloved Eugeo.
His icy blue rose.
Burned and melted away in a baleful blaze of crossing blades and blood.

_ _ _ There you have it, that's the preview! I've wanted to rp a Yujikiri reunion for a long time, but no one has ever come to the call and actually committed. So I decided to write something my damn self, and make it into a fanfic. this will be a self-indulgent Yujikiri reunion fic, with a small side of poly dynamics between Kirito, Eugeo, Alice and Asuna scattered throughout the fic and in the epilogue. If polyamory isn't for you, then this fic I'm writing isn't for you.
Please do NOT start a ship war in the comments, or reblogs, or even screen shotting this preview and making it into a ship war, thank you. This fic won't be exactly like the Yujikiri reunion I have in my head rp wise. Rp wise would be a much simpler premise, and it would be strictly Yujikiri, and not as long and as lore heavy.
Anyways, hope you enjoyed what you've read so far. I don't know if it's obvious or not, but Kirito is having a nightmare. He's reliving Eugeo's death over and over and has been every night for YEARS.
I take no responsibilities for anyone's emotional turmoil.

Select a strange and inhuman creature from beyond the realms of human knowledge to go on a sate with and possibly form a long term relationship with.
1- a scientist from an alternate timeline where the kpg mass extinction never happened, and raptors evolved sapient minds. He's trapped in this realm after a failed timeline travel mission. He's very curious about your world, though still a bit afraid of his fate here.
2- a cyborg supersolider whose been wandering the earth since the fall of Atlantis. She has a tall slender build, and is unable to take off her power armor below the neck. Despite her appearance she can be very quiet and reserved, and despite her appearance startles easily. She's still deconstructing a lot of trauma from her past.
3- a mouthless, sexless, vampire who drains blood through very sharp tentacles on their. They seem to be at the bottom of whatever hierarchy vampires have, being unable to speak of pass as human. Though they have an animalistic way of movement, and can't communicate without aac, they're very much a person, and tend to be affectionate and enthusiastic with those who are nice to them.
4- a deal making entity that looks like a black eyed human in a suit (the suit can't come off, it's like part of its skin). It's known to buy and sell human souls, but it wouldn't do that to someone it's on a date with. It's personality is considered strange and sometimes uncomfortable to humans, though it is charismatic in a way. It will also insist it isn't a person.
5- an elder demon whose taking a hundred year vacation from the underworld. Despite his job as a demon he tends to be pretty freindly and casual, sometimes deceptively so. He appears as a tall reptilian humanoid, with horns, several eyes, and a heavy set build. He'll probably give you headpats.
6- a shape-shifter made out of living metal who was made as a weapon, but failed her job because she refuses to take forms that aren't female. She's just been released into the world and is still kind of naïve and can be very trusting of new people that she meets. Her base form that she chooses to take is some sort of anime oc.
7- faerie of the unseelie court who kidnapps children who wander into abandoned buildings. She tends to appear as a naked woman, with deer antlers, and a snake where her genitals should be. She can seem a bit sadistic and violent, but since you're her's she'll be nice to you, just don't expect to explain the concept of morality to her, she lives a life based on what she finds fun. For better or worse she doesn't kill the children, though they aren't human children after she's done with them.
8- a computer from the 1980s whose been granted sentience. He's very arogent due to being technically the first agi, though little to his knowledge he's only sentient because a faerie lord thought it would be funny. Due to his limited body he uses a wheelchair for movement and some sort of claw to grab things. He's nice but he can be a bit self centered.
9- a slender genderless humanoid and a massive venomous wyvern who are actually the same being inhabiting two bodies. They can seem cold at first, and don't seem to have normal body language or expression, though they do feel emotions despite what some think. They can pretty easily lose track of social cues and tend to go own about their hyperfixations a lot. They really hope you'll like them, and also want to make sure you see them as equally their humanoid and draconic halves, not just one or the other.
10- a fallen angel who only fell a few weeks ago. It's still very afraid of what it's become, scares easily, and has an inferiority complex, though it can be very nice and affectionate. It won't tell you why the other angels kicked it out, though it now knows the entity that created it lied about being a god, and shouldn't be trusted by mortals. It looks like a living doll, with a jointed body, and golden wings and a broken halo behind its head.
11- werewolf who serves a god so old that his name has been lost to history. The werewolf has been around for a long time, and has been fighting for the rights of humans, nature, and other entities since the 20th century. Xe speaks with a soft voice, and converses with humans, gods, demons and animals all in the same tone, and with the same amount of respect.
12- the sparrow king. Do not under any circumstances interact with the sparrow king. The organization does not approve of this option.
Reblog to book your date. Like to buy the creature a little present.

And Your Name Is? (Deuce, Azul, and Floyd)
Tumblr media
After successfully resolving whatever was causing NRC to be trapped in an endless time loop of overblotting and disaster, one last reset should give him a chance to experience a normal school year with you. But instead you find yourself trapped in the here and there, appearing as a vague shadow around the school that vanishes as soon as he catches up to you. The kind thing to do would be to allow you to be forgotten in the chance it lets you return to your world.
But this is Twisted Wonderland where the kind thing is seldom done, and he wants you back as much as you want to find him again.
notes: they/them used for Yuu, we are back in business bby, these three are by request, next up are Lilia, Jamil, and Grim! Angst with the intent of comfort, if you like this please consider checking out my masterlist for the previous three parts.
Tumblr media
Deuce
"Don't go where I can't follow."
Deuce has said that many times before.  He wonders if you thought he didn't mean it or had taken it as a joke, and truly he cannot decide which is worse. He had foolishly thought when he first woke up and saw the school year begin anew that he could relax knowing he wouldn't need to chase you across an ocean into the depths of S.T.Y.X. He should have known it wouldn't be that easy, his memories of you might have been scattered across time and space but he knew with certainty this set back did not surprise him.
"Are you alright?" Trey's concern does not go unappreciated, but Deuce can't really bring himself to respond out loud. "You seem a bit distracted." There are countless wishing stars hung above him in the trees, he wishes he remembered if any of the wishes he heard had been the same. He knows his no longer is.
"Let him be." Idia surprisingly in the flesh, but still draped like a wet cat over the drums. "We can afford to take a break anyway." His seniors move away as Deuce remains staring up at the wishing stars. Yuu is sort of the same color as them now, and just as ephemeral.
"Do you remember this?" The starsender robes don't feel as special anymore, he wants to be proud that he was really meant for this task seeing how time itself has seen fit to make him repeat it. "I only remembered to ask you what your wish was after... I think you passed it off as me being dumb but I don't think that's what happened now. Somehow I knew if I asked you to make a wish what you would say." A gentle breeze sways the little lights above his head as Deuce tries to spot the star Trey had helped him make. "I meant what I said, I want you to see just how cool I'll look in my officer's uniform. I want to make my mom and grandma proud, and I want you to come home and be proud of me with them." Sometimes he swears he can feel your head leaning on his shoulder, your arms embracing him from behind, your voice carried by the breeze drowning out shouts for him to come back to reality and pay attention to his surroundings. There's a legend in Twisted Wonderland about a man that dives into the Underworld to rescue his beloved, you had told him your world has the same story but it has a different ending. Deuce doesn't want to think about that as his hands curl around where yours should be, just over his rapidly beating heart. "I wish," he already has but he swears the star twinkles with magic in response all the same "for Yuu to come home." He squeezes your hand and jumps when he finds purchase, your weight forcing him to stumble forward and crash as he rapidly tries to turn and see your face.
Idia and Trey make noises of surprise, he thinks that they're talking but he can't seem to hear them above the sound of your heavy breaths. "I'm back Deucey." You whisper softly into the evening air.
"Welcome back Yuu." He hopes you never make him let you go again.
Azul
There is a mournful song flowing through this strange cold place you have found yourself. It's familiar, but you swear you have never heard it before, perhaps it is the voice you find yourself stumbling towards and not the music itself.
"There you are." It's pleased with itself this voice. "Come to spend some time with me again?" You don't know, you can't even really tell where you are. It looks like an office, but it is bereft of papers or any light. You feel more than see the desk at the center, the smooth grain of the wood chills your fingertips as you run along looking for something. A sigh rattles the room as you are dragged away, back to the mirror chamber by frighteningly cold darkness and you grope wildly around for the person you thought had been there with you. "Goodnight Yuu. I will see you tomorrow."
"Why can't you see me today?" You swear you speak but you hear no noise. And in the solid space you've left behind Azul leans back against his chair and studies the ceiling above him. He should be pleased. He had a theory and the tattered scraps of paper in his hand would seem to have proved it. Azul should be angry that your state demands such a sacrifice of him, he should be weighing the potential cost of this decision. Of saving you.
But instead he laughs.
"Yuu. Yuu, Yuu, Yuu. I wonder if I ever stood a chance." He knows the answer of course, but he wonders if it is as ingrained in your soul as it is his. ~~~~ "Do you believe in other worlds Yuu?" The voice is asking you a silly question, and you chase after it determined to tease. "And I don't mean like yours, I mean completely other realities where things even mages would find unbelievable exist." You manage to push yourself through the waters and begin to wander the purple and grey hued halls, desperately searching for someone you swear is here, his name on the tip of your tongue. "I admit it's not something I ever thought too much about, but after we got together the first time I would lie awake thinking about it. You and I meeting was never a guarantee, so why did it feel so much like fate? I think I asked you once."
"Don't underestimate me." You can hear yourself now, and the walls around you are coming into more solid focus. There is only one door between you and the person you have been searching for now. "I will find you in every lifetime." Delighted laughter moves towards you now, as the door opens to reveal the outline of a man, shimmering just like you.
"Yes that's exactly what you said." His hand is cold, you reach to catch it worried it will fall through you and almost sob as you both find the familiar sensation of the other's touch. "And I think I said, 'Well that's not threatening at all!' Because in my mind there was no other way for us to meet than as adversaries, but that didn't need to be true did it?" Azul's coat and scarf is slung over the back of his chair, your breath catches in your throat at the unusual sight of Azul in just his tuxedo. He preens under your attention, guiding you carefully towards the couch, hands trembling in equal relief, excitement, and still small fear that this was all a painful dream. The shredded remnants of carefully counted contracts can remain scattered across the desk behind you, yet he finds himself surprisingly unconcerned. He curls himself around you, sighing in content at the return of the warmth of your solid form. "I found you this time." You return his embrace with a half sob, the memory of the here and there cementing itself within your fears alongside the sheer relief of Azul's presence. "If other worlds do exist, if time gets re-set again, even if you are forced to return to where you came from, please don't underestimate me either. We found each other once, and we will in every timeline we exist." He kisses your hand and dares reality to prove him wrong.
Floyd
"Man every day's a party when I'm with you. I can't get enough!" He had really meant it, but he could see the doubts still flickering behind that smile.
"Glad you had fun Floyd."
Had. You were glad he "had" fun not "was having." It was an odd thing to get caught up on, Floyd didn't fully understand why it soured his mood so much himself. There was always this carefully crafted barrier between the two of you, carefully built up by you that he never noticed until it was too late. Until little shrimpy was just Yuu and the nickname became a facade to deny the depth of his emotions.
It was silly to think that he was the only one lying to himself.
"Y'know you can't stay all ghostie like that forever." He tries to poke you, disappointed in how you shimmery form neither disappears nor wavers. "It's not good for your health." Floyd has never had the smoothest of emotions, they tumble around his chest like waves, but he knows them to be consistent. He hates standing in place and doing the same thing over and over, he loves it when people make stupid mistakes and he gets to watch them blow up (sometimes literally) in their face, and he hates how predictable he has been. The jumbled memory of countless looping timelines and never once did he do anything more than maybe chase you around a little and come up with excuses to monopolize your attention. Floyd wants to squeeze himself, that's what this entire situation already feels like anyway. "Say do you know what humans used to say about merfolk?" His mood twitches back to something like happiness as he rolls his head up from lying on the library table up onto his hands. "They thought that when we died we turned into sea foam cause we didn't have souls. Isn't that silly! Say Yuu, which one of us looks like foam now huh?" Floyd hasn't cried since he was a fry, but these past few days he feels like he has done little but cry and sleep. In his dreams he gets to re-write his impossible memories to be a little lighter, he gets to drop the nickname and call out to you and have you cry out to him in return. In his dreams everyday is still a party and not a waking nightmare. Your hand, or maybe he is delusional and has begun to dream yet again, reaches towards him, fighting its foamy nature to try and touch his head.
"I like you." He had said it into your neck while you died that time, still lying to save himself some face in case that was the last thing you wanted to hear. "C'mon dance with me Yuu!" He had tried hyping himself up in his head, all words dying in his throat when he finally spun you away from Crabby and Mackerel calling you shrimpy once again.
"I love you." Why is he only brave enough to say it now when he swears it won't actually matter? "I think I've loved you since the first time ya tricked Azul and then immediately every time I saw you after. So come back yeah? I thought I had all the time in the world but I don't, and I ain't ever gonna be board of having you around..." The foam flickers, and for a brief delusional moment Floyd thinks he sees your proper face. "You know that, right?"
"I love you too." It's watery, he feels the answer somewhere in his soul rather than hears it as you crash under your own weight back into reality and onto the hard wood of the NRC library. His laughter cackles up and out across the whole school as he leaps across and over to catch you up and soothe your bruises with soft kisses, not at all the activity Jade expects to find him engaged in when he follows rather than flees at the noise.
"Mine." He kisses your pulse point and you wonder, not for the first time but with much more joy than sorrow, why it was his hand you were searching for. "My Yuu." Floyd purrs, a dangerous tittering laugh of genuine relief convincing you of his genuineness more than anything else.
If he was going to get bored of you, he would have done it timelines ago.

finding out that wriothesley's constellation is cerberus doesn't help my brainrot about this au that the anon suggested either...
wriothesley as "hades", the terrifying duke of meropide. no one actually knows his name -- wriothesley is but a whisper on the lips of the exceptionally brave (or amazingly stupid) who dare to try and say his name out loud. he has many names, so people often refer to this unseen duke with several names. ("aidoneus", "ditis pater", "orcus", etc.)
wriothesley likely happens across you and your oddly placed flower shop during one of his trips to the overworld. sigewinne had asked for a souvenir from the overworld, so he stopped by the coffee shop for some tea for himself and stepped inside your store right after. it's weird that such a fragrant store would be next to a coffee shop, but the scent of the flowers was so pure -- it was as if the coffee shop didn't exist when he stepped in. the flowers were mesmerizing to him. but what was even more mesmerizing was you, the flower shop owner who stumbled out of the door upon realizing that you had a visitor.
the flowers seemed to breathe a sigh of relief when you entered the room. perhaps it's due to the dendro vision that's dangling from the chain on your neck? whatever the case is, the entire world becomes static as wriothesley becomes fixated on you.
i'm a little scattered rn since my attention has been pretty fixed all day, but i'm thinking so hard about this, like...
wriothesley wants you in a way that is so dangerous. he wants you so badly, he's kind of scaring himself. he's no idiot -- if he's scaring himself, then he's sure to scare you. so he approaches you slowly, all the while feeding you hints that you should return to the underworld (the fortress of meropide) with him. he knows that you wouldn't do too well down there with the lack of sunlight and flowers, but he can work around that. he'll make it work. he has to. he will.
but maybe after courting you for so long, you still refuse to go. after all that? after all the effort he's put in to keep you in the dark about his desires? maybe after all that, he kinda blanks out. you fall asleep in your little apartment illuminated by moonlight, but awake in the fortress of meropide.
there's no map, no directions, no friendly faces, no stars to guide your path. just the stench of ozone and wriothesley, who insists that you'll be happy here. he'll make you happy here. he promises.

I would love to hear more about your Sampo headcanons!:)
Hello!!!!
So strictly speaking, I've said all my 'main' headcannons so what's left is just silly little thoughts that I feel like would or could happen in cannon and just are fun to think about. So here we go!
1. I think it would be really cute if at some point, after the seal of the underworld was lifted and Rivet Town is habitable once more, Natasha wants to return to the orphanage and, to raise money, they do a theatrical performance.
Sampo volunteers to help as a director and while he is fair, he bias he has for children is a lot more noticeable. Like, he'd be the Gordon Ramsay of theater. They did raise the funds though so all is forgiven. /j
2. You know Celine? The NPC that wants to become like another NPC so at that point she just stalks and copies her and asks for our help in a daily mission? Yeah, he accidently gave her the idea.
He would probably at some point advertise himself as a 'solver of any problem' and Celine would come to him asking for acting advice, saying she wants to be more like Tamila (the NPC she's trying to copy).
The advice he would give is learn how to pick up some of her mannerisms so she can get more 'in character', saying that's what he does a lot . And Celine does, and that's the start of her 'obsession'.
He doesn't know what's going on with Celine since after the initial 'session' he hasn't seen her and he didn't think about it much. He made money that's all that matters.
3. When Seele turned of age to drink, she immediately started challenging people to drinking contests because she has high metabolism. However, she got too cocky when she taunted Sampo, not knowing that man has spent a big portion of his life in the World's End tavern.
She lost soon after and never went drinking with Sampo again. Don't worry though, the day after Natasha scolded both. Sampo still makes fun of her anytime he sees her holding an alcoholic drink (Natasha won't admit she finds it entertaining).
4. Has started multiple betting pools with the Silvermane Guards (while pretending to be one). Gepard know of them (not that it's Sampo making them) and lets them do it since the bets (50-100 credits) aren't that big so nobody is losing much money and it keeps his soldiers entertained enough.
5. I just know this man makes snowmen in highly dangerous, far from the city, fragmentum filled areas. Like he's in the middle of nowhere, snow is all around him and fragmentum are ready to strike anything that moves and he crunches down, and makes snowmen in dumb poses, sometimes resembling people from Belobog.
Anytime that the Guards have to make an expedition for whatever reason and spot a snowman, the reaction they have is: "He's been here too????????!!!!! Why?????!!! What the fuck, how?!?!??!1/1?1/"
6. Babies, infants more specifically, immediately calm down and giggle in his arms but he himself is very awkward around them. It's probably because he's a Creation of Elation so he brings laugher easily, but he does not know how to interact with them. They are just so small! What if he accidently boops their nose too hard and it dents or something???????
Whenever Natasha has a difficult baby to deal with because they keep crying no matter what she calls Sampo. He always comes, thinking it's a favor she needs or more medicine, but no. It's a baby, here hold it.
7. Since he's not entirely human, he needs less food, water and sleep. That's great! But he neglects those needs more often than not because he forgets he needs to eat, drink and sleep.
8. He probably has slept in a cardboard box before, because he forgot that he does get tired and was about to pass out so he did it in the safest place (trash).
9. I do believe he's unvaccinated, not because he's anti-vax, but because, one, he's not fully human so his immune system is different and stronger, but also two, it requires a lot more touching that he's comfortable with (that is none) which is why he avoids doctors
Plus, he was spawned, he was never a child. So he never had the opportunity to get one and he learnt about their existence a little too late.
He once mentioned it to Gepard who freaked out and made a plan with Natasha to get Sampo to get his shots. It was messy.
10. I do believe he can shapeshift and I imagine that he once had a conversation with Gepard (after they had become closer) where he mentioned that in another language Geppie's name means cheetah. And because Gepard has never seen a cheetah, Sampo shapeshifted into one. Sampo spent the entire night shapeshifting into different animals and species to show the other. Gepard quickly noted that a fox suits Sampo a lot.

days after the bit of rereading inspiring it Hraaarghh summoning the power to verbalize "i appreciate how much Everyone's Really Motivated Rn Huh & Barely Keeping Ahead Of Things is set up / converging At This Moment for the gamers in lackadaisy"
go mitzi lmao with the fraud or whatever (more importantly robbing the last friend in the world cashed in like poker chips you said it wasn't gonna be like that it wasn't supposed to be but etc Great Exchanges) stringing back together the symbolism necklace, are you sure progress is the world, all this on the line to barely hold things together a bit longer & then the payoff of this relies on what's going on with the other active players in the operation, which is "even more haphazardly strung together into an operation" and "it's going: bad"
which is to say, getting An begrudging shipment of goods based on a bluff, which hasn't been made yet, things are hanging together by a thread as it were, mostly nobody's having a good or particularly strategic time but now they're sure More In It than ever. and killing a guy from the most powerful enemy to make around here who is already on the defensive (ft. good offense style) but whoops where's the other guy? well that's probably fine, as was almost getting shot, and the entire run isn't even completed & compare this to the success of the marigold trifecta operation we were just shown. really ramping up the "no way this can go on indefinitely, & only would keep going on if you Need To Believe It Can Work Out rather than bring down disaster 5 min later"
shoutout to zib in whatever stage of imprisonment he's in where initially it's like "well dropping your access to / affiliation with lackadaisy pin down a drain could solely be about 'ha ha, now Another authority won't detect this'" but i'm supposing it's (also) about giving up on the operation / actually intending to cut his losses. But What Will Happen....and will the time devoted to his establishing any rapport with a prohibition bureau agent lead to him Learning Anything important? hmm
meanwhile there's viktor over there not wanting everything to end with paisley & regret, who's also like "wow i'm moved to tragically look at these unanswered letters from my Daughter daughter, whoops i lost (a picture of) her to the abyssal underworld (basement space) & can't manage to retrieve her (photo) from it. sure hope i don't get a call from elsa telling me a daughter figure is doing her first rumrunning challenge for the vine"
lmao MY guy. you imply around mordecai that marigold WAS up to something that could've played into atlas's death, On Top Of that Something's Up currently that's involving him but he doesn't understand it and he can't get any info from marigold about it, it's like two nights later & he's asking gracie about it, what a special time they're having. unfortunate that it's gonna end in ten seconds based on "mordecai is pushing a guy like thrice his size along on a squeaking desk chair through the obstacle course of an abandoned brewery so i don't think that's prime conditions to evade the savoys' detection / catching up to that" and "also wip sketch pages suggest serafine's about to noscope gracie 'what's going on here' shoot first ask questions of the guy who was supposed to have shot him already later" so like, a) mordecai will presumably have the info about gracie's scheduled Next Meeting With Drago (in several days) so like hm what's he gonna do? we know drago is focused on marigold. does he have info for zib, for mordecai? how would mordecai approach a meeting with a fed out here & as little Specificity to work with as he's had in questioning gracie, even if plausibly drago Does have more relevant info? i guess you could abduct him too, for a start. risky, ups the stakes, but that's just what he's Already done (as has Everyone Else, as per the central topic of this post) and so now b) seems like the savoys' getting to go "uhhh so. what's up" about mordecai's antics (like. also do we really think the savoys believe he's Having Fun anyways. i Guess. just also probably they'll very easily readjust that belief lmao)
actually this is just a paragraph break for the hell of it. MY GUY....so that basically it's looking like another thing that'll happen is mordecai will have to accept an Affiliation Outside Marigold with the savoys, simply b/c suddenly they have all this leverage knowing he's up to something, But based on what they've Just said & done, they aren't particularly interested in Telling On Him but Are particularly interested in "yeah we don't assume we or you will work at marigold forever, so also we Do want to be allied outside marigold forever" and like seems plausible they could be interested in [find out what's going on at marigold that Concerns Them but that they can't be more privy to than they are now] designs as well anyways. difficult to imagine that they can get on exactly the same page here, but it could be some Good Enough compromise between all of them. and i hope so because they Are still crushing it out here and i certainly think their allying in recognition of We're All Out Here Doing What It Takes To Survive is a basis of encouraging clarity / accuracy on the matter and of course a powerful teamup to maintain & work with & because like lord the [this is a narrative] target on mordecai otherwise perhaps lmao like he does not have the insulation of "wow, family, beautiful" or "wow, romance, beautiful" or "wow, the 'innocence' to have been insulated from This Kind Of Situation in the first place, beautiful" or "wow, randos happen to find you useful AND personable, beautiful" or "so you're up to violence in the violence business & so is everyone else but did you see all these preceding points?? watch out" like boy he needs the backup here. fingers crossed my special little guy. and rooting for the savoys too. anyways
and like see all my murder mystery musing but ofc i dunno what marigold's other Ventures and other Warnings and other Thorns are all about, but that we know Something's Up, and it sure could be that like whatever retrenchment type of maneuvers might've led to some situation of marigold like ummm maybe we care more about an alliance with atlas being a potential liability rather than an asset and then that nonzero involvement in the interest of Indefinite Survival For The Business will have been a little domino of its own destruction set off. would be wild if such "whoops trying to outrun one's own doom was feeding into it??" & Cycles Of Violence & stuff were like some fundamental themes driving the whole narrative here. would be wild if it was like nooo not the isolated guy too Weird to everyone else nooooo....at least one way or another getting up to plenty of Drama first. that's right

The Curse of Oenone (Leo Valdez xFem!Oc)
A/N: The House of Hades chapters were massively fun to write, I hope you love them -Danny Words: 2,237 Series' Masterlist Previous Chapter // Next Chapter

XXVII: I'm in My Critical-Thinking Era
Today is Ara's 15th birthday, according to the magical screens surrounding the room: The beach has remains of a party. The fireworks show must've happened while they were fighting the rock giants or while she was sleeping.
Leo glances at the screen, then freezes and takes a second look. "Hey—!"
She drags him out of the room. "Don't say anything to them!"
The boy scowls. "What? Why not?"
"This is the worst timing possible," Ara's expression is horror-struck and pale. "Do you think I'm in the mood to celebrate?"
The boy blushes. "But pretending it's not an important date..."
"In the future..." Ara trails off. There is no future. If they're lucky they have a few weeks at most. "Listen, just forget it."
Leo glances at the screens and makes a face. "You shouldn't be spending it like this."
"Don't start," she groans, turning away to enter the mess hall, but Leo stops her.
"You should be in camp with Lily. Or with your parents—"
"And what difference does it make if I'm here or there? My family would be incomplete, the Romans would be all around camp..." she huffs, pushing his hand away. "There's no way I would've enjoyed my birthday this year. Let it go."
Leo stares at her, struggling to find the words. "If... If we'd met sooner, I would've thrown huge parties for you. A whole week of 'em."
Ara wants to cry at his words, but she thinks this is a worthy trade at the very least. She saves the world, therefore she only gets shitty birthdays. Whatever. She got to have three birthday parties throughout her entire life, it's not like she's suffering a major loss.
Leo was supposed to find her last December, it had to happen that way, otherwise, she wouldn't've taken the role of daughter of Olympus, and her prophecy is their only hope to break the curse...
Mike wouldn't've died. Janus whispers mockingly. Is one life worthier than the other?
She cups his face. "Having you around is enough. Besides, your birthday is also in two days, we can celebrate then if you want."
Tumblr media
"I communed with the dead last night. I was able to learn more about what we'll face," Nico says as they eat breakfast. "In ancient times, the House of Hades was a major site for Greek pilgrims. They would come to speak with the dead and honor their ancestors."
"Sounds like Día de los Muertos," Leo mentions. "My Aunt Rosa took that stuff seriously."
"Chinese have that, too," Frank adds. "Ancestor worship, sweeping the graves in the springtime. Your Aunt Rosa would've gotten along with my grandmother."
"Yeah," Leo mutters. "I'm sure they would've been best buds."
"A lot of cultures have seasonal traditions to honor the dead," Nico agrees. "But the House of Hades was open year-round. Pilgrims could actually speak to the ghosts. In Greek, the place was called the Necromanteion, the Oracle of Death. You'd work your way through different levels of tunnels, leaving offerings and drinking special potions—"
"Special potions," Leo mumbles. "Yum."
Jason flashes a warning look at him, he doesn't want him to upset Nico because then he will tease Ara in turn. "Nico, go on," the boy says politely.
"The pilgrims believed that each level of the temple brought you closer to the Underworld, until the dead would appear before you. If they were pleased with your offerings, they would answer your questions, maybe even tell you the future."
"And if the spirits weren't pleased?" Frank asks.
"Some pilgrims found nothing," Nico shrugs. "Some went insane, or died after leaving the temple. Others lost their way in the tunnels and were never seen again."
"You always know the hottest spots to visit," Ara jokes.
"Right up your alley, desperate sacrifices just to get crumbs. Anyway, the ghost I spoke to last night, he was a former priest of Hecate. He confirmed what the goddess told Hazel yesterday at the crossroads. In the first war with the giants, Hecate fought for the gods. She slew one of the giants—one who'd been designed as the anti-Hecate. A guy named Clytius."
"Dark dude," Leo says. "Wrapped in shadows."
"Leo, how did you know that?" Hazel questions.
"Kind of had a dream," Leo explains his nightmares to the group and Ara leans forward on the table rubbing her forehead.
"So the giant is Clytius," Jason concludes. "I suppose he'll be waiting for us, guarding the Doors of Death."
"And the woman in Leo's dream?" Frank inquires.
"She's my problem." Hazel says. "Hecate mentioned a formidable enemy in the House of Hades —a witch who couldn't be defeated except by me, using magic."
"Do you know magic?" Leo asks
"Not yet."
"Ah. Any idea who she is?"
"Only that..." There is a brief pause and Ara looks up to see Nico and Hazel sharing a look, then the girl speaks. "Only that she won't be easy to defeat."
Ara remembers what Leo told her: Maze. Magic. A woman. It's not that hard to connect the dots, and she hates how quickly she understands what they'll be facing, part of her hopes to be dead wrong, but it's unlikely.
"But there is some good news," Nico says. "The ghost I talked to explained how Hecate defeated Clytius in the first war. She used her torches to set his hair on fire. He burned to death. In other words, fire is his weakness."
"Oh," Leo sits up. "Okay."
Ara shifts uncomfortably in her seat, nothing is as easy as it sounds, but she doesn't want to say it. Athena's blessing is working within her, she knows at last how it feels to be Annabeth and Lily, her brain constantly seeking info to make plans.
"Leo's fire isn't the same kind of magical as Hecate's. But I could try and teach you to control the mist," she offers to Hazel, and the girl blushes at Ara's offer. They haven't interacted a lot, so it's still a bit awkward between them. "I'm not a sorceress, but it's got to be worth something, right?"
"It's worth a try," Jason agrees. "At least we know how to kill the giant. And this sorceress... well, if Hecate believes Hazel can defeat her, then so do I."
Hazel sighs. "Now we just have to reach the House of Hades, battle our way through Gaea's forces—"
"Plus a bunch of ghosts," Nico adds. "The spirits in that temple may not be friendly."
"—and find the Doors of Death. Assuming we can somehow arrive at the same time as Percy and Annabeth and rescue them."
"We can do it," Frank tries to encourage them. "We have to."
"Well, that depends on how long it'll take us to get there," Ara turns to Leo.
"So, with this detour," he voices, "I'm estimating four or five days to arrive at Epirus, assuming no delays for, you know, monster attacks and stuff."
"Yeah. Those never happen." Jason says sarcastically.
"Hecate told you that Gaea was planning her big Wake Up party on August first, right?" Leo turns to Hazel. "The Feast of Whatever?"
"Spes. The goddess of hope."
"Theoretically, this leaves us enough time," Jason interjects. "It's only July fifth."
As expected, Nico's gaze locks with hers and he opens his mouth slightly, tilting his head as if about to ask something. Ara's eyes widen and she shakes her head discretely but making it clear that he has to stay quiet.
"...We should be able to close the Doors of Death, then find the giants' HQ and stop them from waking Gaea before August first," Jason finishes.
"Theoretically," Hazel nods. "But I'd still like to know how we make our way through the House of Hades without going insane or dying."
"Well, that's Nico's job," Ara points out. "You're the Ghost King, right?"
Nico scowls, but Frank pushes his plate away with a look of discomfort and speaks before the younger boy can. "It's July fifth. Oh, jeez, I hadn't even thought of that...."
"Hey, man, it's cool," Leo replies. "You're Canadian, right? I didn't expect you to get me an Independence Day present or anything... unless you wanted to."
"It's not that. My grandmother... she always told me that seven was an unlucky number. It was a ghost number. She didn't like it when I told her there would be seven demigods on our quest. And July is the seventh month."
"Yeah, but..." Leo taps his fingers on the table anxiously, the morse code for I love you on repeat. He doesn't seem to notice. "But that's just coincidence, right?"
"Back in China," Frank continues, "in the old days, people called the seventh month the ghost month. That's when the spirit world and the human world were closest. The living and the dead could go back and forth. Tell me it's a coincidence we're searching for the Doors of Death during the ghost month."
"Man, shut up," Ara doesn't like the idea of her birth month being an unlucky one, especially because Leo's birthday is on the seventh day, and Jason's...
Ara looks at him. Jason's birthday! It was the same day they lost Percy and Annabeth... Jason doesn't even flinch at Frank's speech, he keeps it together like a true Roman, but still, Ara feels guilty.
"Let's focus on the things we can deal with. We're getting close to Bologna. Maybe we'll get more answers once we find these dwarfs that Hecate—"
The Argo II stops violently and they get tossed in different directions. Ara hits her ribs on the edge of the table and looks around not understanding what's happening.
"Nico!" Hazel gasps when he collapses against a wall.
"Look!" Jason pointed at the images of Camp Half-Blood.
Except it is no longer Camp Half-Blood. In its place, all she sees is chubby messed-up faces standing too close to the cameras. They flicker again and show the deck, where Piper and Hedge are gagged and unable to move.
Ara holds onto the wall and seizes Almighty. "What are those?"
As they watch the two little creatures bounce around stealing stuff, one of them snatches the Archimedes sphere out of its place, which sets Leo off. "No!"
"Piper!" Jason exclaims as he gets out from under the table.
"Monkey!" Frank shouts in alarm.
"Not monkeys," Hazel helps Nico up. "I think those are dwarfs—"
"Stealing my stuff!" Leo rushes out of the room.
Tumblr media
Ara Jackson is a girl with a short fuse.
It's carefully hidden, though, which means not many things can trigger it. But Dwarfs breaking the things she's been looking after since they left home? That's definitely a way to get her murderous mode on.
She watches them jump from one place to another and realizes she can't beat them with brute force. These beings are faster than she ever was, and by the looks of it, are professional bandits. Even Connor and Travis wouldn't stand a chance.
"Duck!" Leo tackles her by the waist before a grenade hits her.
Ara groans and tries to push Leo off, but she can't. "You left those on deck?!"
"Sorry I didn't think of the possibility of dwarfs setting them off!" Leo complains, unable to move.
Ara can't function properly, the dwarfs used the grenades Leo made for her (he was trying to cheer her up after what had happened at the Fort). They were filled with Apollo's magic, some liquid booming melodies that were meant to disorient and stun.
Ara crawls to a sitting position just in time to see a dwarf run away with Leo's belt... and Almighty. They reach a ballista and one of the dwarves shoots the other out of the ship, then the one left walks towards the rail, hits Coach Hedge, and jumps out of sight mockingly waving goodbye to Ara and Leo.
"Those horrid sons of—"
"Come on," Leo stumbles to his feet, his eyes red and glossy.
Leo and Jason pick her off the ground and Ara stays still trying to get rid of the dizziness. Gorilla!Frank is out-cold, tongue out.
"Piper!" Jason stumbles over to his girlfriend.
"Don't waste your time on me!" The girl complains when he pulls out the gag from her mouth. "Go after them!"
Ara makes her way to the control board and discovers with horror that the dwarves also took her Octopi. She turns to Leo, understanding in their gazes as they fall to the same conclusion: Those dipshits have to pay.
Leo turns to Jason. "You feeling good enough to control the winds? Ara and I need a lift."
"Sure, but—"
"Good," Leo interrupts him. "We've got some monkey dudes to catch."
Ara's fingertips are burning with the need to strangle the living garden gnomes. "My plushie bags are off-limits," she says gravely. "They're going down."
Tumblr media
"Where to?" Jason asks once they are in the middle of the small town.
Leo frowns. "Well, I dunno. Let me pull my dwarf-tracking GPS out of my tool belt... Oh, wait! I don't have a dwarf-tracking GPS—or my tool belt!"
"Be nice," Ara palms her pocket and with relief finds Almighty has come back to her. "Jason's trying to help."
"Thank you," says the boy, though also looking angry. Piper being mistreated isn't something that he lets slide. "The ballista fired the first dwarf in that direction, I think. Come on."
Ara thinks about Lily again. Her family was from Italy, and she'd always dreamed about coming here, to get acquainted with her roots, demigod and mortal. But Lily is stuck at camp fighting a war she didn't start and Ara's here, and if she fails, there might not be an Italy to visit in the future.
Now that she's as old as Mike was when he died, Ara wonders which friend is going to die this time, the one who's been forced to stay behind and grow older, or the one that's running forward and still playing pretend.

an incomplete list of things fukimono barely fucking touched on that NEED AND DESERVE additional depth:
- abeno being "strangely cruel" to humans/disconnected from humanity/more youkai than human culturally speaking
- also his FAMILY?? WHERE ARE THEY ????
- the three powers. give me more underworld laws and politics. i want to know wtf ashiya and them were stamping when rippou called for help. i want to know how you have a whole court system and yet cutting ppls arms off in the streets as an example to whoever happens to be shopping that day is the way to deal with thievery. what are the laws here exactly run me the documents
- the three powers and aoi and whatever wholesomely fucked up youkai coparenting situation they had going on with baby abeno. we only got a few panels and i need MORE
- the mononokean + the princess + yahiko/their whole tri-power underworld/human world balance connection thing. i get it in the vaguest sense but whats going on there
- THE MONONOKEAN. THE FUCKING MONONOKEAN. BRO YOU CANNOT HAVE SUCH A COOL FUN INTERESTING YOUKAI BE SO INTEGRAL TO THE STORY AND ONLY GIVE US THE BAREST INFORMATION ABOUT IT PLEASE THE LORE DROP THE FUCKING LORE
- influence
- influence taking on the will/spirit (?) of the person it once resided in post-mortem (??) (is influence itself a demon that possesses humans??? like wtf why does my mc power gain consciousness when i die wtf wtf wtfff)
- nah im sayin it again what the FUCK is influence and how does it work. Yeah Uh The Thing That Lets Me See Youkai And Also Suppress Their Will With My Own And Also Kills Them If I Want And Also Forms An Identity/Steals Mine (During The Time I Used It) When I Die If It Doesn't Die With Me. You Know. Influence. like huh what huh ?????
- parasite shrubs and the sea of trees. they were both explained well enough but the fact that all of youkai society is contained within the bubble of the princess's power and everything outside of it is a lawless death sentence is SO COOL. conceptually. like how many square miles can she cover? what does the youkai population number even look like? the three powers all have "bases" in different locations but what about the regular citizens? are there multiple towns? cities? how would living near the border of the sea of trees be handled? is the sea of trees ever used as a means of capital punishment? do they have any kind of guard or patrol ? im not gonna edit it sorry but this is bled into my next point, which was
- youkai society
- sakae and nara
- sakae and aoi
- sakae in general. we know bros family got squadwiped by youkai, he killed them indiscriminately with his influence as revenge up until he met aoi who (SOMEHOW we dont fucking KNOW because we dont know shit about aoi EITHER) changed his heart enough to have him secretly working for the mononokean, at some point he started a family, and he died trying to save aoi. and thats it. how did he fall in love with nara?? why was his hair gold the first time they met and then black after that even though he could still see youkai?? how did he meet aoi?? what was his personality like beyond traumatized and exhausted??? we will never fucking know :D
- aoi in general. all we know about them is they were the previous master of the mononokean, if you bully haruitsuki they will kill you <3, they saved him from youkai as a itty bitty kid and probably kidnapped (????) him to the underworld for child employment training, theyre the coolest strongest cat ever and everybody thought they were dead, and theyre probably gonna be the next underworld princess (#nongendered). what does their human form look like? whats their personality like beyond "loves abeno"? why did they become the master of the mononokean? how did they and sakae become friends/partners? what made them risk everything by letting sakae work for the mononokean in secret rather than just killing the walking youkai murder machine? WE WILL NEVER. FUCKING. KNOW. :D
- that one youkai who was studying their school to implement some kind of standardized education in the youkai world. we shoulda checked back in on them fr
- KINAKO. WE SHOULDA CHECKED BACK IN ON HER FR

Tumblr media
In reality, the fortress && the upper world , are somewhat similar to a two different kind of nations, furina , the current hydro archon may be the ruler of whole fontaine, but when it comes to the underworld, her voice is not as iron clad as someone expected , whatever may happen below the seawater the hydro archon's rule is exempted && any secrets made there won't be known --- after all nothing slip past outside the iron walls that secludes any kind of rumors && secret, the duke had really made a nation for himself but that doesn't mean she doesn't have an intel or two.
After all , the melusines aren't the brightest kind of creature when it comes to human secrecy & privacy - whatever they hear or know they are glad to share the bits of information -- especially to the hydro archon of the said nation. A little persuasion && then - TA DA!! furina had all the information she needed. So it was no wonder why she found herself inside the iron walls of the said prison.
❝ Now , Now !! I know my appearance here is nothing but a surprise, but i couldn't help but be amused , with how you, my dearest people of fontaine -- reacts to see me here --- to be expected , of course -- it was me, they hydro archon ; after alll~ she had set her foot in this place. hmhh ~ haha.❞ She giggled quite proudly -- as she basked under the gaze of her people. Some was surprised, meanwhile others was unbothered && most are glaring daggers , understandable since some of the prisoners here was sent here with her watching their trial as entertainment.
Tumblr media
--- ❝ But my people the meet && greet , have to wait -- i have a very special appointment, && perfect timing , Duke of the Fortress of Meropide , just the right man i've been looking for. ❞ Furina then turned to face the taller man , she skipped between her steps before stopping right in front of him. ❝ Why don't we share a cup of tea or two ? hmm?❞

Hi guys so I made a fake cover for one of my oc stories. I'm just now realizing that it doesn't quite fit the vibes of this current excerpt but I promise it makes sense with more context 💀 I thought I'd post something to go along with it and so here's the prolog chapter!
Any feedback or comments are appreciated 🫶
PROLOG
Every star in the sky is that of an ancestor looking down from the land beyond mortals. The names of those still residing in the memories of generations to come are the names belonging to the brightest stars.
As time goes on and memories twist and turn through each person's account, the people behind those names slowly turn to ash, leaving behind hollow gods — mere figures in legends and prayers. A long time ago, one such star existed. The founder of the kingdom high upon the mountains, Hua Xinyang, shone with splendor never seen before in the northern sky. Never obscured by clouds, he was Yujun's symbol even long after his physical body had been devoured by dirt and worms. But he too, would disappear one day. When a dark void appeared in the spot where his star would have shone, Hua Xinyang, although still remaining in the hearts of his people, was truly pronounced dead.
Ever since then, the two other gods who watched over Yujun alongside him, were rarely ever seen again. They said that one secluded himself in his realm in the depths of The Abyss, while the other, crushed by grief, hid away in his garden and never dared to cross any form of life again. Even though their stars still existed in the night sky, their absence made it no different from the death the people of Yujun had experienced just moments before.
That was 500 years ago. Yujun has moved on from their grief and the kingdom has learned to live on without their Tri-Deity. Today, their names are only uttered in respect; for the small fragment of history that people are still able to remember. However, whatever happened before, in between, and after that brief moment in time was a mystery, one that would never reach their descendants because nobody who lived through it was around to tell those stories anymore.
But there was somebody who lived, unbeknownst to anyone besides himself and the gods who had disappeared long ago.
One day when the descendant of Hua Xinyang took in a boy from the south of Yujun, Xiang Yulan, who'd laid dormant in his Silk Pavilion for years, felt that something was out of place within the mortal world. After a distanced observation of the child, the link between them only became clearer. However, he wasn't the only one who felt that way. Bai Ming who'd disappeared from the eyes of all beings — living and dead — suddenly returned to check on this "disturbance." Something wasn't as it should be with Hua Beifang's boy, and as time went on, Bai Ming's suspicions, although believed to be illogical even by himself, seemed to be proven true. The child had memories of the past; the deities' past. He wasn't sure whose memories they were, but they were certainly more accurate than the myths being passed around as the trio's history in the current day.
As a god of the underworld, truth be told, Bai Ming was unnerved by the occurrence. The boy was an anomaly to the cycle of life and death. His duty should have lead to him killling the boy to restore all that is natural, but due to his own personal desire, he could not bring himself to do so.
By the time Hua Xinyang perished, he, Bai Ming, and Xiang Yulan each had their own skeletons in the closet. However, whatever the latter two were hiding was an open secret compared to the events that Hua Xinyang hid away, even from Xiang Yulan.
Despite the shining image of brotherhood that the people of Yujun saw Bai Ming and Hua Xinyang as, Bai Ming couldn't care less about the secrets that the founder had. For what it's worth, if they were to disappear just like their owner, he still would not have felt as if he'd lost something important. On the other side of that spectrum, there was Xiang Yulan. The death of the founder was a secret that he was hiding in itself, one that he was hiding from Xiang Yulan specifically. At least that's what the moon god believes. He didn't know why his companion would do that, but he knew that he must've been keeping something from him, something big, something... awful.
When the boy entered the picture, Xiang Yulan thought that he could be the key to the puzzle. So, he sought after him. He waited for the moment he'd be able to take him as his contract disciple. He always watched him, but never interfered. Without realizing it, he'd watched him grow up.
Bai Ming was aware of this. The revivification of the moon god was a surprise, but, at the start, it was a welcome one. He and Xiang Yulan's relationship had strained after the founder's death, so all he could do was look after him from afar. It was once he'd grasped the other god's true intentions that he finally stepped in. The moon god had no obligation to listen to him, as the death god had no obligation to stop him. But Bai Ming wanted something too, and he was willing to destroy whatever legacy they'd left behind as a trio in order to achieve it.
When the two couldn't reach an agreement, it was settled that from then on, the moon and the waters below were enemies. How people would remember them now was unimportant, because at that point, neither of them had anything to lose.

Happy STS! 💜💌 What role does symbolism play in your WIPs, if any? What symbols relate to certain characters, events, or emotions? How do you decide what symbols to use, or what these symbols mean? Are they intentional, or do you notice them after they've appeared in the story? :) - @liv-is
fhdsafd thank you for asking. i have noooooo idea. i think that i can confidently say that symbolism's role in most of my work is very small, really just used to convey ideas in the moment rather than doing that cool thing where they haunt the entire story and can be tied to multiple themes.
100% i would say that the symbols are unintentional because i don't really think about elements of my stories that way while i'm writing them. i think that the meat of the idea is present while i'm plotting and writing, but the concept doesn't really have a name. like, i'll decide that a character feels some way about an object or color or whatever for a particular reason, and it's only much later that i make the connection that what i've written is a symbol. for example lovise's books are a symbol of responsibility; kirby loathes them and brionna wants them desperately, and i, the author, didn't realize this was a symbol until you asked me this question. other wolf's tooth hits include loneliness being directly correlated to wrongness (werewolves need companionship like they need air); small animals to unease (as they can pass freely between our world and the underworld + hold lycans' lives in their hands like fragile baby birds); and, of course, the color red to anything from the body (positive) to danger.
meanwhile in fiasco 'doors' (scare quotes because any shape that closes can be a door in this universe) represent the unknown, becoming more dangerous as the story progresses. i know this on some level but i don't really think about it while i'm writing, like, at all. it just happens and i don't even notice until i'm revising or whatever.
because it's almost thoughtless, not a lot of thought actually goes into what should be used to represent which idea. lovise has her books because she needs to keep track of what happens to her hundreds of packmates somehow, just like fiasco's doorways are initially wonderful and warp into something horrific because the negative matter also needs to make its way into the first dimension somehow.
while i've got you here, the dead man's clothes that ramsey borrows in devil dogs are a way to keep his shame very visible to others, clinging to his body uncomfortably because he really shouldn't be wearing them, should he?

Ok as someone who's actually writing a fic about Bianca. Fandom really ignores any nuance here? Either she is the devil or she did nothing wrong. But at the end of the day Bianca suffers from one simple problem: she's barely a character outside of her role in Nico's narrative. Like it or not, her entire character exists to die and give Nico issues down the road but Riordan's writing decisions didn't do her any favours either.
I feel like this is a huge issue when it comes to the pjo fandom they often try to come up with Watsonian solutions to problems that are Doylist in nature.
Case in point: Riordan's shit math when it comes to the Di Angelo siblings and how it messes up with bianca's character.
So when we meet them they're 10 and 12. We learn that their memories of their past is kinda hazy and that they don't remember their parents but that they were in a boarding school, then they moved to the lotus hotel, then they were taken out of the hotel and put into Westover's. And at the end we learn that they're Hades's children born before the oath of the big 3.
Said oath happened after WW2 btw. So 1945 probably since Bianca remembers FDR's presidency.
Now in TLO we get an update on this backstory. Hades is speaking to Maria about moving his children to the underworld or the lotus hotel since Maria doesn't like the former option because the war has put Hades in a bad situation with his brothers and also the prophecy is out, the oath has been taken and they're running out of time to hide the kids. So logic says that it's 1945. And then Zeus immediately kills Maria and Hades tells Alecto to erase the children's memories and put them in the lotus hotel, and honestly? I like this version much better? Because why in the world would Hades Put his children in a boarding school for a few years and THEN hide them in the hotel after they were nearly assassinated? Why not immediately put them in the hotel?
And so we get to our main dillema. Bianca having to raise Nico. This was already strange to me because it's not as if this is a Jason and Thalia situation where Jason was a toddler and Thalia had to take care of him. Nico is not a baby they have a two year age difference. But of course these kinds of things might matter more if you're young. Even then, in what situation would Bianca be Nico's main caretaker? They were put into a magic hotel that mind you, makes time go faster so for them it was a month or two at best and they would have been given whatever they needed by the staff? Same type of issue with Westover's and the boarding school if you want consider that canon. They would have been taken care of by the facility. They probably wouldn't even have shared classes or dorms? Or am I misunderstanding American boarding schools?
And then, Riordan's bad math strikes again and this time with the characters' ages. Because Nico's age in HoO becomes 14 which would have made him 11/almost 12 in TTC but that's not the big problem, no no no. The problem comes from his official birthday which is 1932.
1932... Which would have made him 13 and Bianca 15 by the time Maria dies. Which is hilarious because with the way the kids are written during her death scene as absolute non players with nary a reaction, you would think they were written to be toddlers who didn't understand anything that was going on.
That royally screws over Bianca as a character (and me as someone who's trying to write a story centered around her). Because her main thing. The one time she's allowed to have complexity is the moment where she talks about how she wants to be more than Nico's caretaker, and she's barely Nico's caretaker at all. The best in universe explanation I can come up for this is that this is how Bianca perceives things because that's all that she literally remembers. Those months in the hotel and Westovers.
Another time the plot kinda messes her up is at the beginning of TTC. One complaint that I often see in regards to her Is how quick she makes her decision. She does not even hesitate. She does not even wait to see the camp. You know the place that would have taken care of her and Nico which would have meant she wasn't going to be his supposed primary caretaker anymore? She doesn't even wait to see if it was an actual good place for her brother? Spoiler alert: it's not camp half-blood at the time was no good place for either of them really.
But once again, this is a Doylist problem at its core. We need to turn Bianca into a hunter but we also need Artemis to leave so that she can be kidnapped for the main conflict, so she leaves before the hunters even reach camp. Half-blood. So Bianca as a character doesn't even get to make a proper choice between the camp and the hunters. To people who only look at characters on an in universe level, it comes off as very rash and not well thought out (to be fair, on an in universe level, she's a kid so it's okay if she's stupid, but Riordan wasn't trying to make her come off as that way? He treats Bianca's decision as a legit serious choice and not the rash decision of a desperate child)
And once again, Bianca is here for Nico's sake more than anything. She needs to die. So she takes the statue for Nico. Which is so ironic and tragic if you decide to play it that way. That Bianca wanted to be more than Nico's sister, but her literal death revolves around being his sister. Normally I'd enjoy this level of angsty irony but unfortunately that's how the very narrative treats her as well. Even her post mortem decisions are there to maximize Nico's angst more than that they're there to say anything about Bianca herself. We need Bianca to only appear at the end of Botl so that Nico and Percy can have a conflict but it once again comes at the cost of Bianca herself coming off as callous. What's the in universe reason for this behavior? It's so stupid because in universe, Nico doesn't even take that much convincing? One conversation. One conversation and Nico was convinced to stop his efforts in reviving her. Does she just not know her brother enough? Maybe since they technically know each other for a year max. Does she genuinely think she's that easy to give up on? Is she that conflict avoidant? I actually like this interpretation and plan to use it. There's much to be done with a character who's rash and bold but an absolute emotional coward who'd try to avoid an emotionally charged conversation until they absolutely can't.
Hell even after Botl, it's the same song and dance. Hades makes an absolute vile remark at Nico's expense. TSATS makes it into a joke moment and has you believe that Hades simple said that Bianca would have been a better demigod. No ladies and gentlemen. Hades literally tells Nico that he wished Bianca had survived instead.(The fact that I still think that hades is the best godly parent just shows you how low the bar is more than anything.)
I swear to God I spent so much time racking my brain trying to understand what this could mean for Bianca's character.
Tumblr media
This is how I basically look like trying to milk every scene where Bianca is there as a character or is mentioned for every drop of characterization.
At the end of the day, I can't blame most of the fandom for being ambivalent towards her at best. The story by design is about Nico. It's designed for you to sympathize with him and yeah if I'm to look at it from Nico's perspective. He DID get abandoned, regardless of Bianca's intentions. From his Perspective , which is the one most people would take, his sister took the very first chance she could to ditch him for people she barely knew hoping people either of them barely knew would take care of him even though they haven't even seen the place yet, and then ignored him for months while he was desperate for a single conversation with her. Honestly had Nico outright resented his sister for leaving, I think the reaction towards her would have even been worse.
(Another sidenote, my very hot tea Is that I like to believe that had Bianca lived her and Nico's relationship would have become worse as time went on and as the camp's anti hades sentiments really started taking their toll on Nico. But I'm just an angst lover)
Worse is that this story is told from Percy's perspective and these two only have like 3 actual conversations together. One of them is her dying, one is about her making her first main decision and that's at the expense of Nico who's probably the fandom favorite behind Percy and Annabeth and the other is her trying to explain her aforementioned decision to Percy and even then, she talks about it in such broad strokes. "I want to be more than X" tells us about who you one day wish to be not about who you are at the current moment. And even when we have Nico as a POV character, Bianca is only there for "dead family member" trope. There's barely any moment where Nico remembers anything important about her to give her any depth. The cards are just stacked against her. Even the people who are at the "Bianca did nothing wrong camp" are barely interested in her. I swear to god whenever an AU comes up where she's alive, the focus is STILL on Nico. Oh Nico would have been such a happy person had she lived! And Bianca? Uhhhhh she would have fucked off with the hunters I guess?
Can we talk about the hunters while we're here?
If we WERE to talk about in universe scapegoats, I'd honestly choose the hunters. Honestly I could make a separate post about how much I hate how Riordan handled them. But oh dear God the way they're presented just comes off as creepy. The way they initially (up until TOA) only go for young girls because apparently older girls aren't useful once they hit puberty and start developing feelings for people and lose themselves(TTC and Percy Jackson's Greek gods oh dear lord are they terrible in Percy Jackson's Greek gods). How they're basically the heroine dumping ground for when Riordan doesn't know what to do with a female character. How ultimately in universe, Zoe more than anyone is to blame to for Bianca's death by taking an untrained girl to a mission where she KNOWS two people would die at the very least. And she doesn't even watch her properly during the mission. Honestly I could barely feel anything about Zoe's death upon rereads as an adult for this very reason. Or how stupid it is to basically put a child in front of a candy store and expect them to make a responsible decision. Who in their right mind would have young girls as young as nine take a celibacy vow? Oh but you'll be safe with us (never mind that we're not just normal hunters here like the actual myths but actual monster hunters) and you'll totally be able to see your brother when you want (actually we barely visit camp half-blood) oh but you'll be a FAMILY with us! Except you know if you catch feelings or get assaulted(holy hell how Riordan depicts the myth of Callisto makes me want to tear my hair out of my scalp)
"oh, i hate bianca!! she left nico!!"
no. nonononono. you don't get it. how would YOU feel if all your life, you've been nothing but an older sibling?? nothing but a caretaker?? bianca yearned to feel part of something, to be needed and wanted. she didn't 'abandon' nico, she abandoned herself just to take care of him for so many years and when they finally found shelter (camp half-blood) she made the decision to finally do something for herself. let my baby rest, she didn't do anything wrong and i will go through hell defending her!!!!

~ Bitten Blue - Chapter 1 ~
☆ (Disney) Hades x Reader
★ CW: just some good flirting.
☆ Reader's Perspective !!
As time ticks on by, Hades' days are spent either sulking in sorrow over his awful loneliness as he gazes upon the River Styx and all the poor unfortunate souls within it or plotting to overthrow Zeus and rule Mount Olympus himself.
This time, as he's in the midst of plotting (as per usual), he happens to catch a flash of light in his peripheral vision. As if it couldn't be guessed, that flash of light sent your own self—unknowingly—into the Underworld. Yet, as you gaze down at the flesh of your hands, you find that you're...still alive?
"Hey; kid," I hear a voice call out to me. "Wha'dya doin' 'ere, eh?" He doesn't seem too happy about my presence. His hair is flaring up pretty wildy, too. "You tryna botha me er what? I got things to do, I got a whole PLACE to run, ya got all that? Whatever it is, make it snappy; I don't have all day." He is DEFinitely pissed, and dealing with a gods temper is NOT what I signed up for or planned on getting myself into.
"Ironically, I'm...not dead? Aren't souls supPOSED to not be alive when they come here?" He definitely didn't take that lightly. Not in a good way, at least. His fiery hair and face shift to a deep orange with frustration. His fist slams onto the table, causing the energy to travel through its legs and make the ground quake for a good moment.
"Just what kinda joke are ya tryna play around here, huh?! I am HADES! LORD of the DEAD! If you're not DEAD, then what in the underworld are you doin' 'ere?" As if I'm even close to capable of having the answer to such a question.
"Don't ask ME, fireball, I just appeared here from thin air!" I snap. Hades crosses his arms, glaring at me as though I'm suspicious of something. His anger slowly settles down, all the while still simmering beneath the surface.
"Oy vey." He facepalms, brows furrowing in minor distress. "I got no one else to blame but myself for hiring Pain and Panic rather than investing in a halfway decent security system." He pinches at the bridge of his nose in agitation, his flames burning a shallow yellow.
"Hey, it's not like I asked to be here in the first place." I walk at a rhythmic pace, approaching Hades—still remaining at a reasonable distance from him. He conjures a skull in the palm of his hand and studies it for a moment.
"Well, since you're here, do me a favor and make yourself useful. Better yet: enlighten me, would ya?" I take note of a smirk crept upon his face and raise a brow in suspicion at his words.
"Just what are you implying?" I narrow my gaze at his own, crossing my arms and tapping my fingers against my upper arm.
"Oh—I don't know—that I could use some company? Even if it's a mere mortal like yourself, I mean. It's not like you can die twice, anyway..." He chuckles at his own words, as if I came here dead to begin with.
"Not like I could—oh, I don't know—chain your arms to your sides and torture you myself, either." I shrug, mockingly.
"Looks like I mighta met my match after all, eh?"
"Yeah? And in what way?"
"Well, I'm not entirely sure how to react to someone, or a mortal for that matter, who can match my wit and humor... and isn't afraid of a bit of torture." He smirks deviously.
"I, myself, could torture you in the best ways possible—don't you worry your pretty little flaming head about it." I wink, schmoozing my way somewhere I know I shouldn't, for my own best interests.
"Hm... Perhaps we could strike a deal. You entertain me and make this place a little less dreary, and I might just let you live long enough to see the light of day again."
"Remind me why I would ever even wish to see the light of day when I would have you around to quite physically and fiery light up the entire world that surrounds me?"
Hades tilts his head, studying me. "Well now, aren't you a smooth talker? I gotta admit, I didn't expect this kind of a response from someone who just appeared out of thin air."
"More than that can happen from thin air, sweetcheeks, just you wait and see." I give Hades another wink, taking note that he seems to be enjoying it.
He chuckles, a smirk forming on his lips. "I gotta say, it has been ages since anyone's managed to ruffle my feathers in such a delightful manner. And I do love a good challenge."
"Well, you could return the favor." I shrug, making a mere suggestion.
"And just what kind of favor do you have in mind?"
"Ruffling said feathers, perchance?"
"I think I could handle that, my little firecracker." With a smirk, he steps closer to me, his expression flashing with mischief. In one swift motion, he reaches out and playfully ruffles my hair.
"I will be sure to crackle your fire, don't you worry."
"Just remember, I might be the Lord of the Dead, but I can still feel a spark or two when they're thrown my way."
"Whatever you need, and no matter the extent, I'll be here for you. Physically, for the most part, if you catch my drift."
"Oh really?" There's a hint of lust in his voice as he makes his way closer to me. "And just how far are you willing to go for me?"
"How far do you want me to go?" I lift my chin to try to regain a little more confidence.
"Why don't you show me?" He places his hand upon my chest, pretty much all of him burning with desire, flames even flaring up across his shoulders—though still blue.
I keep my composure. "Or...you could take the initiative in that matter." Feeling the warmth of his flames, my face can't help but flush in response (it's totally a blood thing).
With a smirk, he steps back and spreads his black robe wide open, revealing the flames that dance beneath it. "Consider this your invitation," he says with a sultry tone.

having played more of kh2 again i think i can articulate more of why i don't like it as much as the other games in the series i've played. as it does extend past things like the fact that the levels are mostly all flat bland hallways with literally nothing in them to do beyond fight.
there's also the like events? i suppose we can call them? the things that aren't combat that the game locks you into. things like doing the missions for shang or the hades escape sequence. these happen damned near constantly in kh2 and i just don't like them terribly much. since they all tend to be combat gauntlets with some sort of annoying gimmick attached. bbs has these things too. jaq's sequence stands out in this regard. but it doesn't have them to the same constant degree that kh2 has them.
the game also has a very bad case of doing the movie-itis in many of the worlds but in a way that just hasn't aged well. i may have problems with the frozen and tangled worlds but at least those worlds have the production values. the land of dragons meanwhile is just very sad. it also feels hideously stop and go because dear god i keep being stopped to be told by text in the window to go protect the doors or make sure my morale gauge doesn't deplete or whatever the hell else.
the levels are also extremely straight forward. there is never a question as to where i go in these levels as i just go forward. and as much as i occasionally bitch about deep jungle i do genuinely like that deep jungle is something i have to explore. i like that i have to try to find progress and what problems i have with the world would be fixed if the plot triggers weren't as wonky as they are. bbs has this problem too but at least in bbs i often have little platform-y bits or things like the horrible maze in maleficent's castle to deal with. in kh2 i have fuck all but walking forward into the next thing that occurs.
kh2's combat also kind of isn't much fun at early levels, i feel. kh1's is a bit awkward too but at least you get dodge roll after traverse town. i kind of really hate that the underworld removes your ability to use drive so early in too. so i am left waiting for when i get to actually do cool shit. and speaking of that.
i am left feeling that way about the worlds in general too? wonderland isn't the most exciting thing in the world but i do like exploring to gather the evidence. and trying to navigate the bizarre room is really fun! but land of dragons isn't really fun. the underworld is just kind of ok too. it's better because it has auron but i'm not like jazzed to be here. i am instead wanting to get to "the good parts" again. kh2 has such a good opening and then it just drops you in the land of dragons.

Iruma is going to return to the human world because of the misfit class
Ok listen to me, I just read the whole manga in two days so I may be missing things and maybe I'm a little sleep deprived, but I have a theory that at some point Iruma is going to return to the human world and with his parents , maybe it is kirio who reveals to everyone that he is a human or the poor devil messes up and says it in the middle of a very large crowd of people or I don't know, the point is that sullyvan has him hidden for a while in which he manages to discover how to erase everyone's memory or make them believe that it was a prank and during that period of time Iruma cannot talk to anyone, not even his friends and classmates.
In that time, his friends don't know what to think or how to feel. Are they angry? Sad? Betrayed? none of them can accommodate their feelings well because they don't know if all their friendship and good times with Iruma has been an act that he has done in order to survive in his world. They can't really blame him, they would have done the same if they were in his shoes, but that doesn't lessen the confusion for either.
Clara and Asmodeus insist that iruma's friendships and feelings are real since you can't pretend to like a person so much, but someone (I'll go for Agares) tells them that if he managed to pretend to be a demon of great level and wisdom he can fake whatever he wants, and this puts the duo in doubt.
Then the information comes out that Iruma was taken by sullyban by force (it is not known yet that his parents sold him) and everyone is convinced that Iruma really doesn't want to be there and has just done everything he could to survive and they are convinced that it is better to return him to the human world. The whole class convinces Ameri that they have to let Iruma go and after a big argument with screaming and crying she believes it too so she contacts her father to make all the preparations.
Everything is done quickly and without goodbyes (Sullyban and Opera are under arrest for the kidnapping of a human), nobody wants to go because they know they will try to stop the process, and they prefer to know that their friend is safe and sound in his original world than here where everything can hurt him. Time passes (I'll give him a few weeks or a month, I don't think they can stand being away from him that long) and everyone feels more dead than alive and without reason to continue being the class they are, because all those merits were earned with the Iruma's help, he was the one who insisted that they were more than just demons that didn't fit the standards and made them stand out like they do now.
Everything is broken when Sabro, Jazz and Lied get into a fight with a demon of a lower rank, who was not only insulting the entire class but also insulting Iruma, then everyone realizes that they miss him to death and that they don't care if Iruma doesn't feel safe in the demon world, they will make it safe for him.
God knows how, but they get the whole group to enter the human world and after a few days of searching they finally find their friend, living with his parents, that makes them doubt for a moment whether they can really take Iruma so freely until they see that he is being treated more like a servant than a son and they all decide to hell with everything, they go in and steal Iruma like he was a sack of potatoes.
From there a scene is made in which they reveal their doubts and Iruma tells them that he is completely unhappy in the human world and that he feels happier and loved with all of them in the underworld and that he wishes to return at any cost, they all pay attention to him and they return as the family they became.
This is more or less my theory that it will happen in a future arc, but it will most likely never happen because I have a history of theories that I don't believe in being the ones that become canon, it has happened to me 3 times already. I also wrote this because I wish to death more interactions with everyone in the misfit class, I know it may take time on the manga but I feel like I lack knowing a lot about the whole class and I want to see how they put friendship above all else things they have been taught about humans.
