[ad_1] Priyanka Chopra and Parineeti Chopra were among the many celebrities who observed the Karwa Chauth fast last night. The cousins shared pictures from the celebrations on Instagram. While Priyanka captioned her post, “To all those celebrating…Happy Karwa Chauth and yes I’m filmy,” Parineeti’s caption read, “My moon and my stars…Happy Karwa Chauth, love of my life.” Priyanka Chopra and Parineeti Chopra’s simple mehndi Priyanka’s post featured special moments from her and Nick Jonas’s Karwa Chauth celebrations. In the first click, Priyanka breaks her fast by drinking water from Nick’s hands as they video call her mom. Meanwhile, the second photo shows her reading a note from Nick, and the third is a selfie of the couple as the actor shows her off her mehndi, featuring Nick’s initials and birth date (9.16.92). As for Parineeti’s post, she shared several photos capturing her and Raghav performing Karwa Chauth rituals. In the first click, Raghav fixes Parineeti’s sindoor. In one picture, the politician can be seen playfully pulling his wife’s hair. The actor also shared pictures of her performing rituals with other married women and showing her mehndi to Raghav. Like her elder cousin, Parineeti also chose a simple design which included two hearts connected with a curved line. Decoding Priyanka’s minimal look Priyanka chose a laidback ensemble for her Karwa Chauth celebrations. She wore a vibrant pink velvet tracksuit. She styled the ensemble with colourful bangles, dainty gold bracelets, jhumkis, rings, and mangalsutra. She tied her hair in a side-parted messy updo, and for the glam, she kept her face bare. Pink lips, feathered brows, and sindoor rounded off the look. What did Parineeti wear for Karwa Chauth? Parineeti chose a bright pink kurta and sharara set for Karwa Chauth. The short kurta has an embroidered neckline, sleeves, and hem. The quarter-length sleeves, side slits and short hem round off the design elements. She draped the dupatta on her shoulders to complete the ethnic look. Parineeti styled the ensemble with rings, earrings, a braided hairdo, sindoor, winged eyeliner, pink lips, matching eye shadow, rouge on the cheeks, and glowing skin. [ad_2] Source link

FUCKED UP!!
GOVIND comes home at 2 AM on Karwa chauth night from his work, opes the door and finds GEETA sleeping on the chair in the hall there in her red saree waiting for him. He wakes her up after which she looks at him, smiles and says,
GEETA: BABY FINALLY YOU ARE HOME. COME LET'S GO!
GOVIND: GEETA! ACTUALLY I WANT TO TELL YOU SOMETHING.
She without listening to him, holds his hand, takes him to the balcony saying,
GEETA: I AM DOING THIS FOR THE FIRST TIME ONLY FOR YOU BABY!
And takes the channi, looks at the moon, then back at him after which she gives him a glass of water which he makes her drink and breaks her fast. She makes him drink the water saying,
GOVIND: I KNOW YOU HAVE ALSO KEPT FAST FOR ME. LET'S HAVE DINNER NOW COME!
Both of them go to the dining area where she starts serving food. As she was about to serve him the briyani he holding her hand says,
GOVIND: GEETA I CHEATED ON YOU TODAY!
She gives him a confusing look asks,
GEETA: WHAT DO YOU MEAN BABY?
GOVIND: I MADE OUT WITH CATHERINE, THE RECEPTIONIST IN MY OFFICE TODAY EVENING.
GEETA: YOU MADE LOVE TO HER?

There are numerous, varieties of fasts in the religious traditions of India, not possible to calculate the exact number, how many there are? Fasting refers to the denial of food and drink for a specified time while keeping the mind in a particular emotional state. Fasting is based on human desires, which are related to their belief that they are devoted to God, demi-God, or the one they worship and want to achieve divine favor through their ability to fast. There are numerous rituals centering on the worship of multiple gods and goddesses in the Puranic ideology, where devotees practice certain methods to please individual Gods. Some of these include Navratri, Shivaratri, Janmashtami, Karva Chauth, Ahoi, and Ekadashi. Karwa Chauth Vrata Hindu married women fast on the fourth day of the waning moon in the month of Kartik, known as Karva Chauth. They have a happy procession in the early morning just before sunrise. A pre-dawn meal known as 'Sargi' is also sent by their parents where they consume food items before sunrise. In this meal, fennel seeds and fruits are offered, and the moon is worshiped. Secondly, fasting women do not take in any food or drink for the entire day. They worship the moon using a clay pot and break the fast by looking at their husband’s faces at night. The keeping of a clay pot represents the wife’s loyalty to her husband, which is a representation of how she was malleable and unformed like a clay pot at the time of the wedding and has remained true to her chosen mate. The tradition puts a lot of importance on morality and yet, why don’t men also have a tradition to show their morality? This tradition keeps gender unbalanced and may create an impression that women are servants of men though this does not necessarily say anything about the woman’s husband’s moral character. Traditions of Karwa Chauth Suhagans (married women) have plates of honey, almonds, dates, and money (Beya) before breaking their fast in the evening. This ritual is done after the sunset. These women dressed in red attires with makeup, sit in the circle. Later on, they share the 'Beya' from their plates with each other. The image of the moon is placed in the middle of the moon-like circular formation. All the women pay their homage from their place of seat and offer prasad from their plates. Eventually, they pass the plates around the circle. In Punjab's folk tradition, they keep singing in Punjabi like; During singing this particular song, Brahmin performs a ritual of worship and takes something from each plate. Story of Karwa Chauth The story associated with Karva Chauth goes as follows: A long time ago there was a king with a queen named Veero. She loved her sister Vero who was the daughter of their stepmother. Once, during a Karva Chauth fast, Veero saw that the moon was hidden for a long time. Veero’s brothers couldn’t bear their sister’s hunger, therefore, they made a fire in the forest, and spread their cloth sheet, so that Veero could see the moon through a sieve. Veero thought she was right and Veero broke her fast. However, the king had left the palace earlier to go hunting, and thorns from the forest pierced him 365 times, making him unconscious. Sad indeed, the queen picked up the body of her husband and started plucking the thorns one at a time. A year passed before the king regained consciousness. In the end, the queen finally pulled out 364 thorns from the king’s body. This is how the origin of Karva Chauth took place. At this point, a bangle seller came around and caused a fuss outside. The queen went shopping for bangles, leaving the last thorn on the king’s body to be removed by the maid. Therefore, the king assumed that the maid was his queen. Unfortunately, this meant that the real queen had to serve as a servant. She made dolls out of a piece of cloth, and played with it, repeatedly saying, ‘Rani Si So Golli Hoi, Golli Si So Rani Hoi’ ਰਾਣੀ ਸੀ ਸੋ ਗੋਲੀ ਹੋਈ, ਗੋਲੀ ਸੀ ਸੋ ਰਾਣੀ ਹੋਈ which means the queen became maid, and the maid became queen. Later on, the lie was discovered and the real queen was reinstated.' Examination of this story and the Karva Chauth rituals brings about many questions. Which king was mentioned in the story? What country was his kingdom and when did these things happen? On what basis were there 365 pricking thorns on him and why was no doctor invited to remove these thorns? Why were 364 thorns plucked off while only one remained, and why did the king regain consciousness after the last thorn was removed? After removing the first 364 thorns why couldn’t he wake? Is a husband allowed to marry another wife if his wife fails to take care of him for one day, as shown in the story of the king? Spiritual Significance These questions are never fully addressed by the story and the Karva Chauth rituals, which have no element of fact or religion. There are a number of notable issues that must be considered in this whole process. Firstly, fasting and abstaining from food and water in order to fulfill a desire or wish is not in accordance with Gurbani. It also discourages obstinate actions because the Lord cannot be pleased in this manner. These acts are often imagined products and are not truly religious. (ਪੰਨਾ-66) The second idea revolves around the belief that fasting with demands and wishes causes a long life for one’s husband. On the other hand, this goes against the normal way of affairs. Is it really possible to achieve a longer lifespan by fasting? Would it not be as if one was trying to please God with starvation against nature’s will? Can anyone imagine a benevolent God known as a mother, father, and guardian, taking pleasure in witnessing a person’s hunger? If fasting was truly related to longevity, there would be so many people in this nation whose lives should be exceedingly long owing to the lack of food. However, this is not true. The teachings of Gurbani highlight the need for understanding, accepting, and living in line with nature. The truth is that every person is born to die. This is an indisputable fact, and no one can avoid this unavoidable fate. As many spiritual traditions suggest, fasting or observing Vratas can have physical health benefits. Nevertheless, when fasting is purely motivated by desires and the hope of being rewarded by God, it ceases to be a genuine spiritual practice. 'ਜੋ ਆਇਆ ਸੋ ਚਲਸੀ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ਆਈ ਵਾਰੀਐ॥' (ਪੰਨਾ-474) 'ਬਾਦਿਸਾਹ ਸਾਹ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਮਰਨਾ॥ ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਸੋ ਕਾਲਹਿ ਖਰਨਾ॥' (ਪੰਨਾ-740) Is it possible for one's actions to extend another person's life? Can our efforts truly alter the fundamental laws of nature? 'ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਮੇਟਿ ਨ ਸਕੀਐ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ॥' (ਪੰਨਾ-789) Read the full article

What are the origins of Gond Art?
Gond Art is a folk tribal art form practiced by arguably the largest tribe in Central India. The art form today is expanding many new horizons and has acquired a cult following in Indian art connoisseurs. The tribes involved in this art form predominantly hail from Madhya Pradesh and parts of Chattisgarh, Odisha, Andhra, Telangana Maharashtra. Although we mainly associate it with these pockets this art form with time has acquired a pan-Indian appeal and enhances the rich heritage India takes pride in. Let us discuss how this rich tradition grew. From where it all started The recorded history of Gond Art goes back to as many as 1400 years. The areas where we find its traces have also been identified with rock paintings from the Mesolithic age. Since there is a very evident stylistic and thematic influence of Mesolithic paintings in Gond Art, who knows probably their legacy dates back even further? The Gonds trace their roots back to the Pre-Aryan age and anthropological sources identify them as Dravidians. The dialect they speak is also heavily influenced by Telegu and other Dravidian languages. Why Gond? The word Gond comes from Kond in the Dravidian idiom which means green mountains No wonder why nature is such an integral thematic stylistic element in Gond Art with the recurrent depiction of motifs like trees, leaves, animals, birds, fishes, fish scales, drops of water and primitive human figurines. Gond Art's existence is so much intertwined with nature that paintings for them are an offering to the worship of nature and a divine medium for seeking protection and warding off evil. Values beliefs: The Koi or Koiture what the Gonds call themselves, traditionally hold the belief that a good image begets good luck. This explains why Gond Art for the Kois wasn't just a recreational pastime but a part of their lifestyle. They decorated the walls and floors of their houses with traditional motifs and tattoos. The paintings were influenced by Mahari Devi, Phalvari Devi (Goddess Kali), local flora fauna and were made on festive occasions like Karwa Chauth, Ashtami Nag Panchami. Colors painting style: The Gond painting uses bright vivid colors like yellow, red, blue, and white. These days due to the paucity of natural colors the Gond paintings we see are made by poster colors on the canvas, however, traditionally the colors were derived from charcoal, colored soil, plant sap, mud, flowers, leaves, and cow dung. The extensive use of straight lines that we see in Gond Art is used to convey a sense of movement and add motion to the still paintings. The use of dots dashes enhances the illusion of motion and increases the scope for depicting things in detail. Gond Art in form and the range of subjects it derives its art out of celebrates the rich heritage of India. It is important that we promote it and reinvent it in our aesthetic choices and preferences. Artists like Suresh Kumar Dhurve, Kalam Patua, and Balua Devi through their paintings are taking this art form to a global platform. We have gained enough that the world has had to offer us, it's high time that we now look within our rich and vibrant cultural heritage. “Karwa chauth is regressive/mysogynist.” So
Women fasting (which is a sure shot way to get a boon in Hinduism in general aswell, fyi. We fast for a lot of different things, both men and women.) in order to please a Goddess (the one who governs a woman’s married life) so that she would protect her husband, something she is doing on her accord is actually against them.
Something that they themselves invented back when men’s lives were under a lot of mortality risk (which is why ancient scriptures don’t speak of it) is invented to oppress them
Something that when you practice, you’re most likely to hear “iski kya zaroorat hai? Jee to rha hu main.” (“Whats even the need? I’m fine am I not?”) from the guy you’re doing it for is actually patriarchal.
Something that women genuinely enjoy because of how (as I’ve heard women around me say) they get to play dress up, don’t have to do any housework, get to meet up with friends and have fun, get treated to a great dinner at night, are pampered by their husbands, is regressive to them.
Something they have been doing since ages for their own peace of mind is oppressing them
Maybe you guys come from different regions and have experienced stuff that makes you think its regressive, of course coupled with whatever social evils exist where you come from ( tbh, even I don’t believe that one should fast for the long life of someone whose an ass to you or won’t do the same for you when need arises. Heck, I don’t even believe in fasting if u don’t want to, which many women do.), but the truth is, the practice itself has nothing to do with misogyny all the way to its origin. Women who still observe despite coming from open minded households do it on their own accord after all.
Don’t even get me started on how fasting is not observed just by women. There’s millions of hindu men out there who have fasted for their wives’ well being in times of sickness and peril (including my own grandfather) , on regular weekday or lunar calender oriented dates. Western India even has the Ashunya Shayan fast where Husbands fast for their wives and marital bliss. The difference is while there’s a specified day for women to do the same annually, it has been labelled poorly by those who don’t even realise its roots.
Let Hindu Women be. You guys made your own choice and opinion, but forcing it down other people’s throat isn’t making you a feminist, its making you an asshole.

Five Unique Karwa Chauth Gift Ideas For The Important Women In Your Life
Karwa Chauth has an essential significance in astrology and the Hindu religion. Every year Indian wives follow fast for the long life of their husbands. Karwa Chauth 2021 is just four months away, so we at Astrolozer made a list of 5 unique gifts for your wife this year. Along with the list, we will tell you some more exciting things related to Karwa Chauth. So read on and enjoy.
All about Karwa Chauth
Karwa Chauth means offering water to the moon in an earthen pot called Karwa on the 4th day or Chaturthi from the full moon day of the Karthika month. On this day, your wife will keep fast for your long life and only eat when the moon rises. The fast is usually broken when you lovingly give water to your wife.
Tales behind Karwa Chauth
There is no specific significance in astrology related to this festival, but Astrolozer presents to you two tales from our mythology. If you want to know more interesting stories about other festivals, feel free to Chat With Astrologer Online Free. Our experts know the stories behind some of the grandest festivals.
Queen Veeravati’s story: Once upon a time, a lovely queen named Veeravati was the only sister among seven loving and caring brothers. During one of the Karwa Chauth at the parents’ house, the queen commenced a strict fast after sunrise.
The empress waited for hours for the moonrise because of suffering from hunger and thirst. Veeravati’s brothers couldn’t see that, so the men created a mirror in a peepal tree that created an illusion that the moon was in the sky. Looking at that illusion, Veeravati broke the fast, and at that moment, the queen’s husband died. Upon seeing the queen weep, a goddess appeared and revealed the truth.
Next, the queen took another fast with true dedication, seeing that Yama, the Lord of death, gave life to Veeravati’s husband.
Draupadi’s story: - Hindus believe that Draupadi also held the Karwa Chauth. Once, Arjuna, whom Draupadi loved the most, went to the Nilgiri Mountains for self-punishment and the remaining 4 Pandavas started having issues without Arjuna. Now in such a situation, Pandavas’ wife remembered and asked Lord Krishna what to do.
Krishna told Draupadi the tale of Goddess Parvati, who, in a similar situation, followed the rules of Karwa Chauth. So now Draupadi also kept a strict fast, and the Pandavas’ problems were solved.

5 Unique Karwa-Chauth Gift Ideas by the Famous Astrologer in India
In Indian culture, the Karwa Chauth is a very important festival for married and girls of marriageable age, said by the famous astrologer in kolkata. On this day, right since the Sunrise till the Moonrise, the woman will fast for the safety of her husband. In the case of women yet to be married, they would keep it fast for his or her future husband who should be loving and caring towards them.
Thus, they would Keep a fast without even drinking water and intake any food all throughout the day according to the famous astrologers of kolkata. This seems to be a tough one but the doting wives or women looking for a good life partner would perform all these with much love and respect in their mind and heart for their husbands.
What is Karwa Chauth?
The meaning of Karwa Chauth is giving Arghya (water) to the moon using an earthen pot called Karwa on the Chaturthi (4th day from Poornima or full moon day) of the Karthika month. The origin of this festival is still terribly hazy but there are definitely some anecdotes related to this festival. some of the estimated stories are narrated below that shows the reason behind this celebration:
Tale of the Queen Veervati:
Once upon a time there was a beautiful queen named Veervati WHO was the only sister among seven loving and caring brothers. In one of the Karwa Chauth she was at her parent’s place and started a strict fast after sunrise. within the evening she was waiting eagerly for the moonrise as she was suffering from hunger and thirst. The brothers were offended by seeing their sister in suffering.
So, they created a mirror in a pipal tree that made it look as if the Moon is up within the sky. Now, the instant Veervati broke her fast, the news that her husband was dead arrived. She kept on weeping and that is when a goddess arrived in front and revealed that she was tricked by her brothers. Now, she kept the Karwa Chauth fast with full devotion and seeing the dedication, Yama, the lord of death restored life to her husband.
Another mythological story from the Pages of the Mahabharata:
It is said that Draupathi also observed this Karwa Chauth. Once Arjuna, the one whom Draupathi loved the most, went to the Nilgiri mountains for self-penalty and so the rest of the brothers were facing challenges without him. Now, Draupathi remembered Lord Krishna in this situation to raise what should be done to resolve the challenges. Lord krishna narrated a story of goddess parvati where in a very similar situation she performed the Karwa Chauth rituals. So, Draupathi then followed the strict rituals of Karwa Chauth and Pandavas resolved their problems.
Usually it's been a practise that the husband would reward the wife for the penance that she should keep on the day of Karwa Chauth. Some would take their wife for an evening Dinner or outing, others would even Gift their wife. These girls aren't a mere exchange of fabric items; but, it'd be to respect the emotions of one’s wife.

Celebrating Karwa Chauth - Long Distance - Multicultural Couple
I fasted for the first time in my life for this year's Karwa Chauth, although I have been dating my boyfriend for almost 5 years now. Last year I was thinking about fasting but Karwa Chauth landed exactly on my birthday and I really want to eat my cake alright? Haha, well that is not the only reason why I didn't fast. Since me and my boyfriend are in a long distance relationship, I happened to travel on that day also to meet him in Georgia, and the last thing I want on a busy day full of traveling, schedules, and changing planes is feeling hungry and thirsty.
This year I decided to fast. I hadn't really prepared in any way for the fasting, for the previous night I was still googling and trying to see everything I have to do. Turns out there are as many ways to celebrate Karwa Chauth as there are people celebrating it so I just had to pick the steps suitable for me. Also my boyfriend had said that I can have water and fruits throughout the day but the internet didn't mention so, so I decided to go with nothing just in case. Before going to sleep I prepared my sargi for the early morning which was vegetable curry. I woke up at around 6.30 am to take a shower, dress up and do a morning prayer. I wasn't quite sure how to do a puja for I have never done one, but I did it outside since I don't have any idols in my home. After completing the prayer I ate the sargi and drank some water, and after the sun rose I continued my day in a very peaceful manner. I was mostly napping and killing time. I'm sure Karwa Chauth is easier to celebrate with people to celebrate it with and the time would go much faster, so my day was quite dull actually. My boyfriend and I try to have an hour-long video call each day, and he ended up calling me a bit too early. We had initially planned to break my fast together and I was surprised why he called me an hour before moonrise. Turns out he had forgotten our daylight saving so he was expecting me to be an hour ahead Well, we managed to kill time together. I never had any issue with hunger, but I was thirsty however. And the nearer we got to the moonrise, the more I started having a headache. The last 30 minutes of my and my boyfriend's video call was just me being emotional. My headache was getting so bad that I even teared up, and I teared up even more every time I went outside to check if the moon was visible. The sky was so cloudy that nothing could be seen. I started to lose my hope and we ended up googling what to do and turned out we can break the fast too as long as we know that the moon is out there. We took a break from our call and I had now sent a message also to my mother-in-law in India to ask her what I should do. She sent me a message that I should break the fast but she ended up calling me as well. We talked for about 15 minutes on the phone, I was now crying my eyes out from the pain and my Mummiji was telling me how proud she is of me.
Me and my boyfriend called eachother again to break the fast together. Although I couldn’t see the moon, I went outside and placed my phone so that my boyfriend could see me. I performed the puja, prayed for my boyfriend’s health and prosperity and offered water to the moon. After that we broke out fast together. I must say that I love the idea of worshipping the moon. It is such a distant yet evident form of beauty.
Although the day didn't end up nicely for me, for encountering the worst headache in a long time, it still brought me and my boyfriend and Mummiji closer together. I didn't expect my Mummiji to be so supportive. She mentioned that she and her family don't expect me to follow these traditions, yet they are touched that I even try. And honestly speaking, I do want to do these traditions and rituals just out of pure respect for them and my boyfriend, even if I don't understand everything. Mummiji and I had such a wholesome conversation through messages until the late night. The night made me realize how lucky I am to have such a supportive and loving mother-in-law, and how much my boyfriend appreciates me also, for surprisingly he had fasted for me too, which he brought up only during our call together. This Karwa Chauth was a roller coaster of emotions, during the late night I was crying out of pain, and the morning after I was still having a headache, but soon after that I was feeling very good and proud of myself that I had fasted for the wellness and prosperity of my partner. I learned that in the morning I should probably drink a bucket of water and if I'm feeling really unwell, I can grant myself some water and fruits. What matters the most is that you try and pray for the wellness of your partner. I feel truly blessed to have a partner from another culture and for being able to learn so much through these occasions. I cannot wait for next year when we can hopefully celebrate Karwa Chauth and other festivities from both of our cultures in person!

5 ABSOLUTELY PRACTICAL REASONS TO LEARN CALLIGRAPHY
Gond Art is a folk tribal art form practiced by arguably the largest tribe in Central India. The art form today is expanding many new horizons and has acquired a cult following in Indian art conoisseurs. The tribes involved in this art form predominantly hail from Madhya Pradesh and parts of Chattisgarh, Odisha, Andhra, Telengana Maharashtra. Although we mainly associate it with these pockets but this art form with time has acquired a pan-Indian appeal and enhances the rich heritage India takes pride in. Why Gond? The word Gond comes from Kond in the Dravidian idiom which means green mountains No wonder why nature is such an integral thematic stylistic element in Gond Art with recurrent depiction of motifs like trees, leaves, animals, birds, fishes, fish scales, drops of water and primitive human figurines. Gond Arts existence is so much intertwined with nature that paintings for them are an offering to the worship of nature and a divine medium for seeking protection and warding off evil. Values beliefs: The Koi or Koiture what the Gonds call themselves, traditionally hold the belief that good image begets good luck. This explains why Gond Art for the Kois wasn't just a recreational pastime but a part of their lifestyle. They decorated walls and floors of their houses with traditional motifs and tattoos. These days due to paucity of natural colors the Gond paintings we see are made by poster colors on the canvas, however, traditionally the colors were derived from charcoal, colored soil, plant sap, mud, flowers, leaves, and cow dung. Artists like Suresh Kumar Dhurve, Kalam Patua and Balua Devi through their paintings are taking this art form to a global platform. We have gained enough that the world has had to offer us, it's high time that we now look within our rich and vibrant cultural heritage.
