🏳️‍🌈Pride Month Day 14: George Michael 🏳️‍🌈
Tumblr media
George Michael was an English singer-songwriter and record producer known for his solo career and for being a member of the pop duo Wham! He is considered one of the best selling artists of all time, with hits from Wham! like "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" and "Everything She Wants" and solo release "Careless Whisper." He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2023 posthumously.
When he was 19, Michael came out as bisexual to Wham! bandmate Andrew Ridgeley. However, in 1998, he was outed for his sexuality and said that he realized he was gay after falling in love with a man. In a 1999 interview with The Advocate, he said that his conflict with being gay wasn't based on morals, but instead that it took falling in love with a man to realize that he hadn't experienced love in his relationships with women. He was also an avid philanthropist. He was featured on the charity single "Do They Know It's Christmas?," which was No. 1 in the UK and left "Last Christmas" at No. 2. He donated the royalties from "Last Christmas" to Band Aid for famine relief in Ethiopia. Michael also campaigned for LGBT rights and fundraised for AIDS/HIV, as was seen when he donated the proceeds from "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me" to charities for children, AIDS and education.

Still thinking about the Wham! documentary.
The way Andrew Ridgely gave George a model of confidence and extroversion to mirror so that he could fully emerge into the star he would become. & the way he was proud of him and knew he had to go on and be something bigger.
What a friendship

I only caught pieces and parts of the Wham documentary when my mom was watching it, but the funniest part has got to be the fact that George Michael was just REALLY gay, but no one noticed because the other guy was busy whoring it up and getting into scandal after scandal.
