Wimbledon MD F: Wesley Koolhof/Neal Skupski [1] def. Marcel Granollers/Horacio Zeballos [15] 6-4, 6-4 Match Stats
Tumblr media
📸 Wimbledon official site
The flow in the final was on Koolski's racquets. They almost left less to no room for M. Granollers/H. Zeballos to convert their chances thanks to their clutch serving. Here was how the stats conveyed it.
Even if M. Granollers/H. Zeballos scored 2 more aces than Koolski, as well as landing 68% of their first serves, Koolski stood out by winning 82% of their points from their first serves. Somehow, M. Granollers/H. Zeballos' second serves appeared more vulnerable by only winning 45% of their second serves, where double faulting four times did not help anything (including down a break point in the first set).
On the other hand, anticipation and point construction always became the key for Koolski to drive the flow in their favor. Not only their swift returns paved their way to break, but they came up with some other shots from the baseline (despite their smashes did not count for their net point), including a lob to secure an initial break point somewhere in the second set, thus accounted to their 3 winners.
Koolski hence won their maiden Grand Slam title together after becoming the US Open 2022 runner-up (to Rajeev Ram/Joe Salisbury a.k.a. Ramsbury). Furthermore, Neal became the first British to win the Men's Doubles title since Jonathan Marray won it in 2012 (with Danish Frederik Nielsen as wild card pairs). On the other hand, this is still a good week for M. Granollers/H. Zeballos, especially knowing their frequent Grand Slam deep runs.

Tumblr media
Canadians Félix Auger-Aliassime and Gabriela Dabrowski won earlier today the bronze medal in the mixed doubles event with a 6-3, 7-6(2) victory over the Dutch team of Demi Schuurs and Wesley Koolhof. This is Canada's second medal in the history of the Olympics in tennis, the other one being a gold medal won by Daniel Nestor and Sébastien Lareau at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney. Auger-Aliassime will have a chance to win a second bronze medal tomorrow against Lorenzo Musetti in the singles event.

Koolski carried their first set moment in the second set, where they always came up with decisive winners to stand out in this match. After Neal's swift forehand return, Koolhof came up with another one to M. Granollers' volley side for their initial break point, before they converted it several points later thanks to Neal's intuitive smash (3-2).
Somehow, they almost doubled the break thanks to Koolhof's forehand lob return, but M. Granollers/H. Zeballos saved them and win a few more points to hold 4-3. It took two consecutive holds until Koolski served for the match, eventually sealing it on Neal's unreturned serve to seal the championship, taking the second set 6-4 as well to clinch their maiden Grand Slam together.
