5 Herbal Ayurvedic Remedies for Thinning Hair
Hair thinning can be a serious concern for many people, and traditional pharmaceutical treatments are often expensive and not very effective. Ayurvedic Clinics in Prayagraj offers natural solutions that can help to restore the health of your scalp and hair follicles. Learn here how to treat hair thinning with five simple herbal remedies based in Ayurvedic science!
Bhringraj: The King of Herbs for Hair Care:
Bhringraj is an herb often used in Ayurveda to promote healthy hair growth. It is known as the “King of Herbs” for its ability to provide deep nourishment and stimulation to the scalp. Therefore, it helps to revitalise the follicles and restore their strength and vitality. To use this remedy, mix two teaspoonfuls of powdered Bhringraj with a tablespoonful of coconut oil or sesame oil. Massage this mixture into your scalp and leave it overnight covered with a shower cap. The next morning, shampoo as usual. Repeat regularly for best results.
According to the experts in many Ayurvedic treatment centres in Prayagraj, Bhringraj is a potent herb for addressing hair thinning. It has cooling and strengthening properties that help to reduce inflammation and strengthen the scalp. The herb also helps to promote blood circulation which is necessary for overall healthy hair growth. Furthermore, it helps to detoxify the scalp and encourages strong, thick hair growth. You can also combine Bhringraj powder with other herbs such as amla, shikakai and brahmi to create a powerful tonic that can be used to promote strong and healthy hair. To use this tonic simply mix together equal parts of each powdered herb with a carrier oil like jojoba or coconut oil and massage into your scalp. Let it sit for 30 minutes before washing out as usual. Use this remedy regularly for best results!
Amla (Gooseberry): A Highly Nutritious Herb That Supports Hair Growth:
Amla is a highly nutritious herb that has been used in some of the best Ayurvedic Clinics of Prayagraj to help improve hair growth and health. It contains essential fatty acids, minerals, antioxidants, and Vitamins C, E, A and K which all contribute to healthier hair. To use this remedy mix two teaspoonfuls of amla powder with a tablespoonful of warm coconut oil or sesame oil. Massage the blended mixture into your scalp before bedtime and cover with a shower cap. Leave overnight and then shampoo as usual in the morning. Repeat this process at least once or twice a week for best results.
Amla helps to nourish the hair follicles, stimulate blood circulation in the scalp, and promote thicker and healthier strands. Additionally, it acts as a natural conditioner that helps to strengthen, detangle and reduce frizz. Add amla powder to your weekly hair treatments for an added boost in hair growth. For best results you can mix two teaspoonfuls of amla powder with one cup of full fat yoghurt or curd and leave it on your hair for an hour before washing off. This will burst moisture into your strands while providing deep conditioning benefits.
Shikakai: A Traditional Indian Herbal Remedy for Healthy Hair
Shikakai (Acacia Concinna) is a traditional Indian herb that has been used for centuries to promote healthy and strong hair growth. It contains saponins, vitamins, and minerals which help to keep the scalp and hair clean, soothe irritation, improve circulation, retain moisture, and strengthen follicles. To use this remedy, blend 1/4 cup of shikakai powder with 2 tablespoons of fenugreek or amla powder. Add enough water to make a paste then massage onto dry or damp scalp. Leave it on overnight then rinse it off in the morning. Repeat at least once or twice a week for best results.
Shikakai is also known to reduce hair loss by promoting circulation and stimulating the scalp. It helps reduce dandruff, soothes irritated scalps, and can even lighten natural hair colour over time. Additionally, this herb contains protein and vitamins which nourish and strengthen the hair follicles while providing extra shine and volume. Plus, its calming effects make it beneficial for those who suffer from anxiety or stress-related hair thinning or breakage. As an Ayurvedic remedy, shikakai has been used for centuries to promote healthy hair growth, however it’s best to consult with a doctor if you suffer from a medical condition that affects the scalp or hair.
Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri): Rejuvenating and Beneficial for Anchoring Hair Follicles in the Scalp
Brahmi is a high-performance, Ayurvedic herb that is known for its ability to rejuvenate and stimulate hair growth. With its unique combination of natural bioactives such as triterpenoid saponins and polyphenols, it helps to nourish the scalp and can even help to anchor the follicles in place. To use this remedy mix 2 tablespoons of brahmi powder with enough coconut oil or sesame oil to make a paste. Massage on your scalp and leave it overnight. Wash off in the morning with a mild shampoo. Repeat twice per week for best results.
Moreover, brahmi has cooling and anti-inflammatory properties which may help to reduce any irritation or redness on your scalp while nourishing it with its antioxidant components. As an added bonus, this herb is also known to strengthen your hair shafts along with the roots of each hair strand, making them stronger and less prone to breakage. The natural bioactives present in brahmi helps to support healthy blood circulation in the scalp which can encourage healthy hair growth and prevent further thinning of your tresses.
Ginseng Roots: Increases Blood Flow to the Scalp, Stimulating Hair Growth
Ginseng has been used to improve overall health and is now becoming increasingly popular as a hair treatment by the experts of many Ayurvedic Treatment Centres in Prayagraj. It helps to stimulate blood circulation, which aids in transportation of essential nutrients to the scalp, resulting in healthier hair growth. To use, mix 1 teaspoon of ginseng powder with enough warm water to form a paste. Apply this paste onto the scalp and leave it on for up to 15 minutes before washing off thoroughly. Use 2-3 times per week for desired results.
Further, ginseng helps with promoting new hair growth and thickening existing follicles. It can also be used to reduce thinning of the hair and even reverse or slow down any premature greying. The calming effects of this root help to bring balance to the scalp and hair region, aiding in both nourishing and reinvigorating them for a fuller appearance. Another Ayurvedic remedy involves using rice water as a natural conditioner to strengthen thinning hair. To do this, rinse rice in warm water until the liquid turns cloudy. Massage it into your scalp and let sit for about 20 minutes before washing out. This will gradually improve circulation which promotes improved growth and thickness in one’s locks over time.
Conclusion:
According to many Ayurvedic doctors in Prayagraj, as with any hair care routine, it’s important to remember that these herbal remedies are not a one-time fix and will require ongoing commitment. It’s essential to start seeing visible results within the first few weeks of following the above remedies. Good nutrition, regular sleep and stress management can also help in giving your scalp the nourishment it needs for stronger, thicker strands.
Ayurveda is a time-tested traditional healing practice that can help individuals naturally strengthen, nourish, and restore their scalp and hair health. With herbs such as Amla, Bhringaraj, Ginseng Roots, Brahmi, and Shikakai along with other natural remedies like head massages and steam treatments, users can treat hair thinning issues without any side effects or toxicity. Plus these herbs work to rebuild the scalp’s oil production which helps to make the strands more resilient in order to prevent future breakage.

How Ayurveda Can Help Optimize Your Child's Growth and Development
As parents, we want to ensure our children get the best care and nutrition for healthy physical and emotional development. Ayurveda is a science of life that offers holistic health solutions and simple ways to nurture your child's growth. Discover how Ayurvedic approaches can support and sustain their natural immune system, provide nourishing foods, and implement lifestyle measures to protect their health in the long term.
Identifying Nutrients Needed for Optimal Growth & Development
Ayurvedic nutrition emphasizes a balanced, nourishing diet for health. While each child's individual dietary needs may vary depending on age and constitution, some essential nutrients are required for them to grow, develop and thrive. These include proteins, carbohydrates, fats and oils, vitamins, and minerals. Eating a nutrient-rich diet made up of whole foods provides an array of benefits for physical well-being, as well as emotional intelligence and psychological health.
To ensure that your child is receiving all the essential nutrients needed for growth and brain development, it is important to understand which foods provide them with the most nourishment. Eating an ayurvedic diet is all about balance, so you should prioritize home-cooked meals, in which they should include fresh vegetables and fruits, organically balanced grains, nuts and seeds, spices such as turmeric and ginger, healthy fats like ghee or coconut oil and a variety of proteins like organic meat or dairy products. Serve food in smaller portions throughout the day to maximize digestion. Finally, make sure that regular exercise is a part of your child’s lifestyle: outdoor activities and playing sports can not only improve health but enhance mental ability too.
Utilizing Herbs and Natural Remedies to Address Health Conditions
Ayurvedic Clinic in Prayagraj uses natural herbs, plants and minerals to effectively address common childhood health conditions such as allergies, colds and flus, digestive issues and skin problems. Some of the best known remedies include the use of turmeric to boost immunity and clear up infections, ginger to reduce inflammation and nausea, ghee to aid digestion, lemon balm for tension relief and neem oil to treat skin conditions. Incorporating these methods into your child’s healthcare regimen is a natural way to promote gentle healing without causing any harsh side effects.
In addition, Ayurvedic Doctors at Prayagraj provides guidance for healthy eating practices for the whole family. It recommends using organic, simply prepared, seasonal ingredients to nourish the body and keep the digestive system functioning at an optimal level. Having regular herbal treatments such as Shirodhara or Abhyanga can help to find and maintain balance in your child’s growth pattern and give their immune system a much needed boost. Taking a holistic approach to nutrition allows your little one's body to naturally thrive while they grow up happy and healthy.
Learning Ayurvedic Massage Techniques for Baby Care
Ayurvedic wellness centre in Prayagraj includes massage in their wellness package as a way of promoting health and well-being in newborns, infants, toddlers, and children. Massage can help relax your child and provide physical and emotional comfort. Furthermore, it helps to improve circulation, lymphatic drainage, and elimination of toxins in the body. For babies, the use of repetitive strokes with warm oil is encouraged to promote growth and development. Additionally, these massage techniques help stimulate the digestive system, facilitate muscle relaxation, and bring balance between body systems.
The most commonly used oils for massage are almond oil and sunflower oil used by the ayurvedic doctors in Prayagraj. To make the massage more effective, herbs like triphala, Shatavari, ashwagandha, and licorice can be added to the oil. Depending upon your baby or child's constitution, you can pick a proportionately heated oil suitable for their body type. Warm massage therapy helps with sleep quality and stimulates cognitive growth in children by promoting improved concentration. Follow up these Ayurveda-guided massage techniques with nourishing dietary practices like using ghee and herbal supplements according to the child’s age and health needs.
Incorporating Healthy Lifestyle Practices (e.g., Meditation, Yoga)
Incorporating a daily practice of yoga and meditation at the Best Meditation Centre in Allahabad in your child’s routine can help them with many physical, mental, and emotional benefits. Yoga encourages body awareness and helps with strengthening, stretching, and balancing. Meditation calms the mind and helps children learn the power of concentration. Combining yoga and meditation creates an overall sense of well-being in both adults and children alike. In Ayurveda, these practices can be especially beneficial for stimulating growth hormones and supporting development.
Because children are growing, their bodies need more energy than adults and therefore require careful nutrition in order to build strong bones and healthy organs. Incorporating Ayurvedic principles into your child’s diet can help provide additional nutrients they may not be getting from their existing diet – such as herbs, vitamins, minerals, and specific foods that support the needs of a growing body. Adding these beneficial ingredients to recipes along with focusing on mostly organic and non-GMO products should become part of your weekly menu plan in order to ensure your children are getting all the nutrition they need.
Conclusion
Integrating ancient Ayurvedic principles into your child’s lifestyle can promote optimal physical, mental and emotional growth. From foods to sleep habits to the practice of yoga and meditation, each habit is an important part of achieving a balanced life. Small changes done consistently over time can add up to a healthy, happy life for your little one.

This unique therapeutic approach offers a myriad of benefits that cater to both physical and mental well-being. In this article, we delve into the depths of Udvartana therapy, exploring its various types and shedding light on the remarkable advantages it brings.
What is Udvartana Therapy?
Udvartana, derived from the Sanskrit words "ud" meaning upward and "vartana" signifying to rub, is a rejuvenating and invigorating Ayurvedic therapy practiced at many wellness centre in Prayagraj. This ancient practice involves a specialized massage technique using a combination of dry herbal powders, oils, and vigorous strokes to stimulate circulation, exfoliate the skin, and promote lymphatic drainage.
The Types of Udvartana Therapy
Snigadh Udvartana
In Snigadh Udvartana, a medicated paste is prepared by blending various herbs, grains, and oils. This paste is then applied to the body, and skilled therapists of some of the best Ayurvedic clinics perform the massage using gentle, upward strokes. This type of Udvartana therapy is particularly beneficial for individuals with sensitive or dry skin, as it nourishes and moisturizes the skin while promoting detoxification.
Ruksha Udvartana
Ruksha Udvartana involves the use of dry, coarse herbal powders to create friction and heat during the massage. This technique is perfect for individuals with a tendency towards oily skin and excess adipose tissue. The vigorous strokes help break down fat deposits, improve blood circulation, and revitalize the skin's appearance.
Snigadh-Ruksha Udvartana
As the name suggests, Snigadh-Ruksha Udvartana combines elements of both Snigadh and Ruksha techniques. Therapists customize the herbal paste composition based on the individual's constitution and specific needs. This versatile approach provides a balanced experience by catering to varying skin types and concerns.
The Remarkable Benefits

Udvartana therapy acts as a natural exfoliator, removing dead skin cells and promoting skin cell turnover. This leads to a radiant and glowing complexion, leaving the skin looking revitalized and youthful.
Stress Relief
The massage technique used in Udvartana therapy induces relaxation by calming the nervous system. The aromatic herbal powders also contribute to a sense of tranquility, making it an excellent stress-relief therapy.
Lymphatic Support

Nestled along the riverbank with stunning views, Rishikul Kumbh Cottage is a heritage resort that perfectly blends tradition and modern comfort. This exclusive accommodation provides visitors with a serene, authentic stay, making it ideal for those seeking a peaceful retreat amidst the energy of the Mela. Shahi Snan: The Royal Bathing Ritual
One of the most significant rituals during Kumbh Mela is the Shahi Snan, or Royal Bath. This ceremonial bath is considered the most auspicious event of the festival, where saints, sadhus, and devotees take a dip in the holy waters of the Sangam. The Shahi Snan dates are regarded as highly sacred, and many believe that bathing in the river during this time washes away sins and leads to salvation.
In 2025, the Shahi Snan will be observed on specific dates, attracting an even larger crowd than usual. Whether you’re a first-time attendee or a returning devotee, participating in or witnessing the Shahi Snan is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Staying near the Sangam ensures that you’re well-positioned to observe this grand spectacle.
Places to Stay Near Sangam
For those looking to stay near the Sangam to easily access the holy site, there are several accommodation options available. From riverside tents to hotels and ashrams, the key is to book early as spaces fill up quickly during Kumbh Mela. Some of the best options include:
Riverside Tents: These temporary accommodations provide an immersive experience right by the river. Ideal for those who want to be close to nature and the main bathing area.

DAY 4155
HytReg, Lko July 23, 2019 Tue 9:17 PM
Birthday - Ef Indrajeet Chavan, ABEf, Advocate .. Wednesday, July 24 .. and our wishes for your special day .. from the Ef
What spurs an individual to fight .. for his Country, for its integrity, for its relevance and Independence, for its place in the Universe ..
What elements make these men and women who sacrifice first, think of themselves later .. or not at all ..
What is that drive that separates them from us all .. yes we have pride and the strength of our spirit as a National, a citizen .. but they that fight are of some other more potent produce ..
Today we have mentioned in celebration of the birth of two stalwarts, who epitomise that spirit we talk of .. Chandra Shekhar Azad, and Bal Gangadhar Tilak .. what an immense will and power of their conviction and dedicated ultimate vision in their search for what they fought for ..
Chandra Shekhar Azad, the dynamic freedom fighter, who fought for the Independence of the Country from the British .. singularly or in combined surreptitious modules to rid the usurper and free his Motherland ..
While fighting his cause he was surrounded by the British forces at the Alfred Park in Allahabad, my birth place, now renamed PrayagRaj .. he battled on courageously single handed, until he was overcome and gave up his life for the country .. the Alfred Park, presumably named after Queen Elizabeth 1 , husband was a huge landscaped Park in the middle of the city , kept in pristine condition .. held all the flower shows of the city within it each year - my Mother winning many of her awards for the best roses and best kept garden at this location on many an occasion .. a place where we would often go as a retreat to relax and play about in its lush green surroundings .. listen to the Band each Sunday at the specially created podium in the middle of this vast area .. witness International tennis stars play at the tennis courts at one end of the Park - giants from Australia and Europe in festive competition .. and ..
.. often shown that tree .. that tree where the great freedom fighter gave up his life fighting off the British oppressors .. taking cover with his revolver against an entire battery of armaments that he was being attacked with ..
.. we would listen to the elders talk about it .. often my Father would give details of the Independence struggle and the men and women that were fighting for the nation .. it is rumoured that Chandra Shekhar Azad, had hid in our home - my Father’s home in Muthiganj, in the city while planning armed revolts .. it is believed, and so I was told that he had rolled himself up in an ‘holdall’ at night to escape notice and left early morning ..
.. i am not sure if many of you are aware of the ‘holdall’ .. it was semi canvas material luggage contraption, length wise the size of an average man in sleep mode, envelope openings at each end of this bedding to store the pillows and other belongings .. the main layout has a soft light mattress or a duvet, or ‘razaae’ .. and this when all the stuff was in place would be rolled up and belted to look like an enlarged ‘roti roll’ , if you know what I mean ..
.. it was the staple mandatory luggage essential when travelling .. in the train on the birth, you just unbelted it and ‘voila’ , there .. you had your personal bed .. ready to be slept on .. in .. whatever .. all my travels were thus .. right up to school and even beyond, when searching in Calcutta for a job .. on School camp expeditions, as Boy Scouts this was our main luggage weapon .. in fact right till the entry into films .. used it for Saat Hindustani as we moved inside the forests of Goa during the monsoons when we shot the film .. and in Reshma Shera when living in tents on location, there it was .. my best companion .. actually many a times we never entirely removed all the material inside .. the mattress was already laid flat at the base as you unfolded the ‘holdall’ .. the pillow was in place at he head envelope .. and we just jumped on it .. a well made laid bed .. never ever opened any of the compartments ..
.. ITS ANOTHER MATTER THAT WHEN THE SCHEDULE FOR RESHMA SHERA WAS OVER AND I WAS PACKING MY HOLDALL TO LEAVE, I HAPPENED TO CHECK MY PILLOW IN THE SLEEVE .. TO DISCOVER ..
3 SCORPIONS .. !!
... so for the entire shooting schedule which lasted almost a month .. I was ‘sleeping with the scorpions’ ( could have been that famous GodFather mafia term ‘he sleeps with the fishes’ !! ) .. unknown to me .. unknown to them - fortunately ! .. desert scorpions are almost invisible .. they acquire the colour of the sand and look transparent !! .. even a greater danger , for their sting can be fatal .. !
SO THERE ..
... and then Bal Gangadhar Tilak .. who fought for Independence with great ideology and will .. at some point of the Independence struggle, the British had, seeing the many episodes of gathered revolt marches, banned the collection of more than 4 people at a time in the open .. it was this diktat of the British that was responsible for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, in Punjab, Amritsar .. when Gen Dwyer, and his Company had opened fire on innocent men women and children inside this closed park area and ruthlessly massacred hundreds ..
.. but Bal Gangadhar Tilak came out with a brilliant and unique concept .. he introduced the present day Ganapati festival .. where he said that due to this religious custom, people must be given permission to celebrate .. he defied the Raj and got hundreds out on the streets to celebrate Ganapati .. yes the celebrations were granted permission under the garb of religion, but I am certain the occasion was also used to gather information, plan revolt acts through the workings of the ‘underground’ Indian agencies ..
.. what times our elders lived through .. on many an occasion I have often desired to have been a part of that struggle .. to take part in the revolt .. to work as underground agents against the oppressor ..
.. my Father narrates another story of my Grand Father during those times .. but of that some other day ..
Fathers, children, progeny, blood similar veins .. they have such a strong presence in our emotions ..
.. when the child does you proud there is little that one can give back except the tears of happiness that flow out uncontrollably .. just their achievements in whatever field brings that lump in the throat , that swell of tears in the eyes .. its with all parents all over the World ..
.. so yes .. I had a swell last night ..
.. and the day today went in happiness and good cheer ..
.. not quite what this expression says .. but pretty close .. 🤣
.. this one is looking and reading for corrections of the DAY that I have just finished writing .. err .. punching ..
Good night all and my love ..

13 Important Indian Places Every Yogi Should Visit | India + Yoga
Rishikesh
Chandresh Bhardwaj
Trying to come up with the perfect itinerary to fit your time frame—and not sure where to start, given India’s vastness? Here, Chandresh Bhardwaj, author of Break the Norms, and a seventh-generation spiritual teacher in New York and Los Angeles who leads multiple retreats in his homeland of India each year, shares his top picks for the holy cities, historical sites, and spiritual pilgrimages every student of yoga should consider.

Holy Cities
Prayagraj
This lesser-known holy city, formerly called Allahabad and renamed in late 2018 by a new government trying to build a more spiritual India, is located at the confluence of the Ganges, the Yamuna, and the mythical Sarasvati Saraswati rivers. When the Kumbh Mela festival happens here (most recently in January 2019), it’s the largest: Up to 150 million pilgrims will travel from across the country and the world, and wait for days to bathe in the holy river.

Haridwar
The Ganges—or Ganga, considered a living goddess—descends from its source in the Himalayas, called Gomukh, to the north Indian plains in Haridwar before making its way across the country and pouring into the Bay of Bengal. That’s why this city’s name means “gateway to god” and has been a center of Hindu religion and mysticism since ancient times. In Hindu mythology, Haridwar is also one of the four sites where drops of amrit, the elixir of immortality, accidentally spilled over from the celestial bird Garuda’s pitcher. This manifested in the Kumbh Mela, a religious festival that’s celebrated four times over the course of 12 years at four different pilgrimage sites, including Haridwar. Even when this famous festival isn’t happening, you can experience nightly Ganga Aarti ceremonies here.

Varanasi
Varanasi
One of the oldest inhabited cities on Earth, Varanasi is also one of India’s holiest. Walk on the river’s banks, and you’ll hear the near-constant clanging of puja ceremonial bells and see the flicker of lamps illuminating the holy river at night. You’ll also see pilgrims bathing—and a maze of funeral pyres, where bodies burn along Varanasi’s cremation ghat, or river bank. “This is a city where death is honored, welcomed, and celebrated in a sacred way,” Bhardwaj says. “Many Indians believe that if the right rituals are done at the time of their death, they’ll achieve the ultimate goal—liberation of the constant cycle of being born, suffering, and going through the drama of living—if their body is burned or their ashes are scattered in Varanasi.”

Rishikesh
Want to practice in the footsteps of the ancient yogis? Rishikesh, considered by many to be the yoga capital of India—of the world, really—is where yoga, tantra, and mantras were created, Bhardwaj says. “There’s such powerful energy here that even if you don’t practice asana or meditation and just keep yourself receptive and open, big things can happen,” he says. On the banks of the holy river Ganges you’ll find ashrams, temples, and shops, as well as a diverse, international group of spiritual seekers. When you’re there, don’t miss Ganga Aarti, a fire ceremony at the sacred bank called Triveni Ghat.

Pilgrimages
Gomukh
The Ganges, also known as Ma Ganga, is the most revered, sacred river in Hindu lore. When Ma Ganga was asked to descend to Earth from the heavens, she was insulted, so she decided to sweep away everything in her path with her waters once she reached the terrestrial plain. In order to protect the Earth from Ma Ganga’s force, Lord Shiva sat in the Himalayan mountain town of Gangotri and caught the powerful river in his hair, saving the Earth from cracking open. Thanks to Shiva, Ma Ganga’s celestial, purifying waters then flowed through India, and the devout travel to her banks to wash away sins and find salvation. A multi-day trek to Gomukh—the Gangotri Glacier that is the site of Ma Ganga’s headwaters—is the ultimate pilgrimage, Bhardwaj says.

Kedarnath
This north Indian town nestled in the Himalayas is where Lord Shiva is believed to have meditated. Pilgrims make the 11-mile uphill trek to the Kedarnath Temple—which, due to extreme weather conditions, is open only from the end of April to early November—to worship him. “Passionate yogis who meditate there for a while often experience intense energies,” Bhardwaj says.
Himachal Pradesh
Chandresh Bhardwaj
Himachal Pradesh
This northern Indian state in the foothills of the Himalayas is home to countless goddess temples and monasteries, Bhardwaj says, as well as the 14th Dalai Lama’s monastery, where he currently lives and gives public discourses. “It’s an especially interesting place because of the combination of Hindu and Buddhist traditions,” Bhardwaj says.

Badrinath
Badrinath Temple, dedicated to Vishnu, one of the Hindu triad of gods along with Shiva and Brahma, is also one of the four Char Dham pilgrimage sites. Visiting the char dhams, which means “four abodes”—Badrinath, Dwarka, Puri, and Rameswaram—is something every Hindu must do during his or her lifetime, Bhardwaj says. “I think of Badrinath as the little brother of Kedarnath,” he says. “While Kedarnath is the homeland of Shiva, and has this intense energy as a result, Badrinath radiates a more holy, more Hindu energy.”

Historical Sites
Taj Mahal
Taj Mahal
One of the most recognized monuments in existence, this mausoleum is also one of the seven wonders of the world—and a must-see when making the trek to India. Located in Agra (part of India’s popular Golden Triangle circuit, which also includes Delhi and Jaipur), the marble monument was commissioned by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan to house the tomb of his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It took 22 years and 20,000 workers to complete—and cost the equivalent of approximately $800 million today. While this UNESCO World Heritage Site will undoubtedly be crowded when you go (a whopping 7 to 8 million tourists visit each year), it’s well worth seeing.

Pushkar
This town, located in the northeastern state of Rajasthan, is set on Pushkar Lake, a sacred Hindu site where pilgrims bathe along its ghats. It’s also home to the only temple of Brahma, the Hindu god known as the creator of the world, Bhardwaj says. “This is one of my all-time favorite places in India,” he says.

Hampi, Karnataka
The remains of more than 1,600 monuments are scattered over the 16-square-mile area of this UNESCO World Heritage site, which is the former capital of the Vijayanagar empire (in power from the 14th to 16th centuries). Amid the elegant ruins of medieval Indian culture, you’ll also find humbler shrines expressing the local villagers’ heartfelt devotion to Rama, Sita, and Hanuman. This area is the legendary Kishkinda, realm of the monkey gods, where Rama, one of the most widely worshipped Hindu deities, is said to have met the monkey god Hanuman on his quest to rescue his kidnapped wife, the goddess Sita.
