So... Masters and Men, eh? There are several different perspectives at play in this chapter:
Mrs. Thornton
"[Workers strike] For the mastership and ownership of other people’s property [...] they are a pack of ungrateful hounds [...] they want to be masters, and make the masters into slaves on their own ground. They are always trying at it; they always have it in their minds".
Mrs. Thornton speaks very harshly of the workers, and she seems to explicitly view the situation as opposing sides, with the 'lesser' one being the aggressor. Part of the pride she takes in her lifestyle is linked to being brave enough to face them and 'fight' against them. In fact, the quote about that is really interesting to me, because she claims they're "a people who are always owing their betters a grudge, and only waiting for an opportunity to pay it off," but in some ways, she could be seen that way as well. At least in the sense of family history/social status, the Hales are supposedly the Thornton's superiors, right? And Mrs. Thornton is very prickly about being seen as inferior herself. A lot of it seems to be genuine pride and dislike of their (Southern) priorities, but some is definitely defensive. And I could see some nasty high society person using similar wording about Mrs. Thornton herself having a grudge against her betters. Certainly, as someone who herself had to struggle tremendously to climb to the point she's at now, I find it easier to see her believing others will want to do the same (though she attributes more malevolence to their actions).
Mr. Hale
"I should say that the masses were already passing rapidly into the troublesome stage which intervenes between childhood and manhood, in the life of the multitude as well as that of the individual. Now, the error which many parents commit in the treatment of the individual at this time is, insisting on the same unreasoning obedience as when all he had to do in the way of duty was, to obey the simple laws of ‘Come when you’re called,’ and ‘Do as you’re bid!’ But a wise parent humours the desire for independent action, so as to become the friend and adviser when his absolute rule shall cease."
Mr. Hale doesn't attempt to dispute the idea that the workers are inferiors, and he's clearly not willing to go too far because he wants to keep the peace. But he tries to suggest that Mr. Thornton look upon them as growing and learning, and be indulged of their 'mistakes' or 'outbursts', so to speak. When talk again turns to the two sides as being opposed to one another, Mr. Hale says, "is not that because there has been none of the equality of friendship between the adviser and advised classes?" He's certainly in favor of mending relations, and he doesn't believe that opposition is inherent/necessary, but his approach is sort of benevolently condescending. This too fits well with his background and the kind of thing Margaret was used to before they move here.
Nicholas Higgins
...it were the interest of the employers to keep them from acquiring money—that it would make them too independent if they had a sum in the savings’ bank. [...] I heard, moreover, that it was considered to the advantage of the masters to have ignorant workmen... [...] But he—that is my informant—spoke as if the masters would like their hands to be merely tall, large children—living in the present moment—with a blind unreasoning kind of obedience.
Higgins (who isn't here and whose words are being relayed second-hand) is the one who first brought up the workers-to-children comparison, but he did so in a distinctly scathing way. He's very bitter about the 'masters' and is definitely displeased at being looked down on. But it's not just resentment. He recognizes the balance of power that is at least in many cases being deliberately maintained. The workers aren't allowed to be too independent because then they can't as easily be used however the masters want. His views are sort of a reverse of Mrs. Thornton's... the employers are the aggressors constantly shoving the workers back down. Wanting them to be ignorant, never to think for themselves, to be dependent and unquestioning. As someone who has very few options even when it comes to helping his daughter dying due to a factory-related illness, his bitterness is fully understandable.
John Thornton
"But because we don’t explain our reasons, they won’t believe we’re acting reasonably. We must give them line and letter for the way we choose to spend or save our money." [...] "I agree with Miss Hale so far as to consider our people in the condition of children, while I deny that we, the masters, have anything to do with the making or keeping them so. I maintain that despotism is the best kind of government for them; so that in the hours in which I come in contact with them I must necessarily be an autocrat." [...] "And I say, that the masters would be trenching on the independence of their hands, in a way that I, for one, should not feel justified in doing, if we interfered too much with the life they lead out of the mills. Because they labour ten hours a-day for us, I do not see that we have any right to impose leading-strings upon them for the rest of their time. I value my own independence so highly that I can fancy no degradation greater than that of having another man perpetually directing and advising and lecturing me, or even planning too closely in any way about my actions."
Mr. Thornton has quite an interesting mix of views here. He claims that it is necessary for him to be a despot; but he feels he has no right to interfere with their personal lives. He talks scornfully of their strikes and says if they knew why he's taken his stance, then they would act differently, but he refuses to tell them why. He agrees that they're like children, but then says he respects their independence and is treating them like he'd want to be treated. Thornton does seem to have a better understanding of the independent nature of the people here, but he uses that reasoning to justify remaining completely uninvolved in bettering the situation. He asks if he has any right to impose his own views on them just because he's their boss - and that's a fair point, but also, he's kind of doing that regardless? It's his belief that an honest and straightforward, if demanding 'master' is both more respectable and incurs loyalty/becomes an example to follow. It's his belief that the workers should blindly obey him because he's in charge, and that this is better for them. And as someone with so much power over their livelihoods, he can operate based on these views. If they feel otherwise, they don't have the power to change that. When they try with strikes, he's willing to get into a power struggle that he admits will hurt him as well as them, rather than let them 'win' even just enough to make him admit his reasons why. Even though he claims their interests align with his, he seems to feel that they don't or can't understand this, and thus conflict is inevitable. In fact, I think he was the first one to call it a "battle of the classes." Thornton's backstory is very much a "pulled myself up by my own bootstraps" success story, and because he did it by working really hard and practicing lots of self-discipline, he seems to think anyone else who fails to succeed is at fault for not working hard enough. He didn't question his bosses, he just put the work in! And so on. Of course, pretty sure he was always of a higher class, and that's going to be a factor for all of these people regardless, but still, I can easily see him thinking that it's their fault for not knowing how to save their money carefully enough. And thus dismissing their complaints.
Margaret Hale
All I meant to say is, that there is no human law to prevent the employers from utterly wasting or throwing away all their money, if they choose; but that there are passages in the Bible which would rather imply—to me at least—that they neglected their duties as stewards if they did so. [...] ...I see two classes dependent on each other in every possible way, yet each evidently regarding the interests of the other as opposed to their own: I never lived in a place before where there were two sets of people always running each other down. [...] ...you are a man, dealing with a set of men over whom you have, whether you reject the use of it or not, immense power, just because your lives and your welfare are so constantly and intimately interwoven. God has made us so that we must be mutually dependent. We may ignore our own dependence, or refuse to acknowledge that others depend upon us in more respects than the payment of weekly wages; but the thing must be, nevertheless.
Margaret relays Higgins' words, and speaks on his behalf. She seems to have a position closest to her father, in the sense that she feels it is Mr. Thornton's duty to aid the people under his rulership. She seems guided ultimately by religious ideals of the relationship between people, but also recognizes that the situation involves an inherent power imbalance and thus responsibility on the part of the one who is at the top. As much as Thornton might deny it, he does have incredible power over the people. But he is also dependent upon them. Her talk about dependence is really interesting because she's the first person to portray it as extending in both directions. They are dependent upon him to employ them; but he is equally dependent upon them to work for him. In this way, she goes a step further than Mr. Hale seemed to, and recognizes both sides as at least closer to equals. She clearly isn't suggesting that every worker should be seen as having the same rights and roles as Thornton, but neither does she view them as either entirely isolated in their independence, or entirely subservient in their dependence. It's a complicated web in which everyone plays a valuable part. Fighting against one another is by necessity acting against your own interests, in a way. Once again, I think her having these beliefs fits very well with her background as someone who did operate in a more noblesse oblige way and clearly felt she was better than certain other classes, but also experienced being the social lesser/supported one when taken in by her Aunt.

Orm began to dive into the water; he felt a tug in his heart, a strong pull, making his brain calculate how to get back to the shore. He continued swimming. He felt the way of unhappiness as he swam against the moving currents and wave strokes. 
His heartbreak was nothing he could describe or even perceive with words. A feeling he knew was going to last.
Y/n was standing there, crying, pleading to the sky, the sea, and the land for him to return. Her hands shoveled and held the sand as if she was holding a lifeline and was trying to pull him back into her arms where she felt safe and protected. 
But now gone, descending deeper into the water, he felt his eyes gaze upon his kingdom, Atlantis. He meant to rule and guard, although it wasn't something he wanted to be anymore, his heart holding back, and yet his lineage, his bloodline, called him back, and now he doesn't want to go. 
The father's wrath was felt at the castle's entrance, and the defining silence was the only positive presence between the father and son.
'What are you doing?!' His father roared from the throne, 
'I was in love; I love someone. Someone loves me.' the young prince admitted with a broken, delicate tone trying to get a better sense of everything.
'You don't love! A ruler, a future king, doesn't have sentiments. He has his mastership and education to stand behind and not something nonsensical and breakable like love...' he spoke with disgust polluting each word. 
'Are you going to go on an identical path like your mother?!' His father banged his fisted hand on the throne handles, the brute force shaking the throne, the wrathful aftershock slithering around and towards Orm, bringing him to his knees, his face pulled down. The sheer bubbling anger Orm felt, he suppressed it, knowing how wrathful his father was, still feeling the snaps and punches on his body from years prior.
Orvax swam down to his son's level, witnessing his son, a future ruler usually full of dignity, brilliance, and regal venom dripping from his mouth and now spending a couple of months with a surface dweller transforming him. Orvax presumed Orm was just having enjoyment; he did not expect his son to come disfigured as a... disgrace.
Orvax touched his son's shoulder, feeling the quick pull back from Orm, Orm's eyes shooting up in pure fear and shock. Orm never saw his father so close. His father wasn't that type of person, the type of person he was...
'Since you are back, I do hope you won't be going back up. Unless you intend to rain upon waves of hurt to...surface dwellers.'
With the intentional pause on the last two words, Orm saw a mischief gleam in his father's eyes, a gleam he also had, a gleam of revenge.
After all, he was this type of person, vengeful and spiteful.
Orm felt his weight shift back from his feet and entirely on the floor. His future he didn't know he deserved with Y/n, was now gone completely. Replaced by ruling the kingdom, only having a feeling of fear of his father. His thoughts ran with the memories he made with Y/n locking them in the safest place, so nothing could tarnish them, not even his father and his cruel ways. Orm looks up at his blood and asks, knowing very well the answer. 
'So I don't even deserve to be happy, father?'
His father began to walk away as he answered, 'No.'
Y/n looked at the waves still crashing and moving, the scenery shades with a dark blue sky, the full moon, and starts being the only bright thing in Y/n view. Her eyes, red and swollen from crying, were fixed onto the waves, her ears picking up the soft footsteps near her.
'Y/n.' a soft tone spoke, the tone she had heard numerous times. 
'Arthur, what should I do? I thought that he was happy.'
Arthur takes a small letter handing it to her, offering a missing piece of the puzzle.
'Unfortunately, it is power beyond our measures.'
Opening the letter Y/n, she gazed upon the rich handwriting.
'Dearest,
I love you. I do not wish to think this is our last communication, but it is. I hope to Gods that it is not. You gave me something no one ever did: to live happily. To enjoy. And my heart breaks over the thought of you crying, wasting your tears on someone like me. Therefore, I will continue to live as a future ruler, and you should continue your life without me. I will always cherish our moments in my cold heart.

Y/n glimpses at Arthur and speaks, 'What should I do, Art?'
'Take one day at a time. Let's get you into the house.'
Standing up after hours of sitting, Y/n ambled back home, turning around, trying to see one last time if Orm was there, waiting for her. 
There wasn't much on the sea, only rocks and waves and a heartbroken king looking from the far distance, his love walking away.

I don't go there but I was interest to do it because they are characters I never draw. (I may have doodled Kaiba once before and first time for Otogi)
Whenever I change a character's gender I don't like to change too much their outfit because I don't see why their personality should be any different (fuck gender norm, you know). But I definitely feel like Otogi as a girl would show as much skin as possible. Kaiba however would be the opposite. Covering as much as she possibily can (like in canon). But I see her with long hair. I imagine that Gozaburo being abusive, he would also be strict about gender norm and wouldn't allow Seto to cut her hair short (I think Mokuba was allowed to have them long because Gozaburo just didn't care about him). Not sure if Seto keeps her hair long because that's just how it had always been and doesn't question it or if because she is actually liking it.
I think Otogi would use they/them as well as she/her. Kaiba goes by she/her.
Otogi is 100% playing the trophy wife whenever they make a public apparition.

Just what was that? That “nna nna” there. Don’t make any stupid noises like that.
Mika: It’s just, Oshi-sa~n… I had a buncha plans fer when you finally got back, y’know~?
So it was just disappointin’ to see ya immediately go into work-mode.
Shu: Plans…? Like what?
Mika: Ermm, like how there’s a limited-time lunch currently at the cafe. It looks real delicious, so I was wanting t’go eat it with ya, Oshi-san.
After that, there’s this handicrafts store I think you’d like that opened on Saison Avenue~! And so I wanted to take ya there!
And after that—
Shu: Sigh, that’s enough… Have you forgotten about the reason I’ve returned to Japan in the first place?
Mika: I remember~… It was for our new song, right?
It’s just been a while since ya returned to Japan, so I thought it’d be okay to go sightseein’ a bit…
Shu: I’d rather not waste my precious time on things like that.
Instead of spending your time on such things, you should spend your time on improving the quality of our new song as much as possible.
Mika: I know that~… But isn’t jus’ a little bit okay?
Shu: Goodness gracious…
(Come to think of it… I haven’t given Kagehira his souvenir yet.)
(I had thought to give it to him after our meeting. However, it might be better to give it to him now to help ease his mood.)
(There’s not much else I can do, so I suppose I should fetch it from my room.)

It's far from Mademoiselle, but it's far less lonely than having nothing.

Shu: And there’s nothing “no good” about that. Eternity and solitude…
Well, every artist, to a greater or lesser extent, all possesses the inquisitive mind for beauty. And it fits Valkyrie’s image as well.
Mika: I’m relieved, then! The image is still too vague, though, I’m not sure how to proceed from here.
Shu: I see… I understand the situation now.
Well, it’s not bad for a first attempt. Let’s expand that image a big more, shall we?

Mika: Yer amazin’ as always, Oshi-san…! I can’t believe we were able to settle so much in the span of just an hour. I can see the image so clearly now!
Shu: I had been doing absolutely everything by myself up until this. There’s a gap of experience here.
For the title—Yes… How about we call it “Acanthe”?
Mika: Akan… tou?[1] That’s a strange word. It reminds me of the Kansai dialect.
Shu: Kagehira… You need to broaden your knowledge further.
It’s a-kon-t. Acanthe. It is the name of a flower named acanthus in English.
Mika: Hmm? But why name the new song Acanthe? I feel like it’s completely unrelated, ain’t it?

Mika: I see, so it’s flower language! You really are amazin’, Oshi-san!
Shu: Rather than praising me, learn how to do this much, Kagehira.

HAND JOB Artworks by Emanuele Taglietti, Maestro of erotic covers
This exhibition presents the work of Emanuele Taglietti and looks back at his career as a church decorator, set-painter for Federico Fellini or Ettore Scola and, of course, at the most provocative phase of his 70-year career: the years between 1973 and 1988, when Taglietti painted over 800 colourful covers - somewhere between erotic, dark and kinky. Maestro Emanuele Taglietti is one of the most important representatives of a generation that shaped a genre that in retrospect is called “Sex & Horror" or “Fumetto Sexy".
In a time before there was photographed and filmed porn, a large industry served a worldwide market for adult comics. Especially in Italy, with its long tradition of painting and craftsmanship, many thousands "Fumetti" were painted, printed and distributed by clever publishers like Renzo Barbieri . Of course always with the warning: "Solo Per Adulti" - "No children please".
The demand for adult comics boomed, hundreds of painters, authors, graphic designers or printing technicians produced on an industrial scale what today's customers find somewhere between HBO and Youporn.
Most artists who worked in this industry were often quite young and the workflows were not ideally planned, everything also took place in semi-darkness - because these comics were taboo. This created a space - and a need - for improvisation and free working. And so a unique visual-aesthetic language emerged.
Talents like Milo Manara, Alessandro Biffignandi, Averardo Ciriello and Emanuele Taglietti mastered the centuries-old technique of tempera painting from an early age, working as art teachers or for cinema before dominating the sexy comics market worldwide for more than a decade. After about 15 years, the boom was over and the industry changed. With the rise of VHS cassettes at the latest, painted sex no longer attracted anyone.
Over the years, Emanuele Taglietti has experienced several phases of public opinion about his work. Years when Barbieri's comics were at the front of the shop window and the more prudish years when the Fumetti could only be sold in opaque bags. Perhaps again, somewhere in the country a local state prosecutor felt provoked, reported a complaint and the comics had to be scrapped. Individual covers were sold freely for years when suddenly a church representative from somewhere reported to his superior and again there was trouble. Again and again, Taglietti picked up finished panels in Milano to edit them for the reprint. Maybe put on a bra? Would that do? Didn't the church's indictment decidedly address the frivolous attitude, the dirty disposition of the protagonist? What would a bra change?
In addition to the question of censorship, Taglietti fits very well into our times: if it succeeds in provoking, it can be a step towards a debate about the representation of sex, feminism and the image of women, the question of male-gaze. Topics to which Taglietti - and we as recipients - may contribute a little. Is it actually eroticism, seduction, the game between lovers, that plays on an ideology-free ground?
Those who do not feel provoked by the works can hopefully enjoy the technical mastership - and Taglietti sees himself as nothing else: an artist - but also a diligent craftsman who can paint things that many people like to see. He does not shy away from debate and he emphasises his firm feminist position. The female attributes, no matter by whom they are represented, should take a much more important position in our world!

Hello, I would be so grateful if any of you or your followers knew of a fic where Hermione is still at Hogwarts and is transported to his time through a library book. She can get back out and ends up using this as a mode to transport between her time and his (I believe she was the only one able to transport thru the book). Tom eventually graduates and leaves Hogwarts.
I distinctly remember a few scenes:
1. They buy each other books as gifts that they think the other will enjoy, for a Christmas I think.
2. Hermione is nervous that Tom steals the book from the library when he graduates (he says that he will eventually bring it back).
3. One time, after Tom has graduated, his flat neighbor peeks in and sees Hermione, so they have to pretend they are engaged and that Tom is sleeping on the couch while Hermione stays there until the wedding (because, so scandalous to be sleeping together before marriage).
This was definitely a fic around in 2013ish on FF.net, I swear it was called "The Journal" or similar (not "The Diary" by littlemulattokitten and weestarmeggie)

The Finnish tailed state flag and The flag of the President of the Republic of Finland
The swallow-tailed national flag, which is also the naval ensign, is flown by the Finnish Defence Forces.
The presidential standard and the command signs of the Minister of Defence, Chief of Defence, and Commander of the Finnish Navy are flown only by the respective persons. The flag has a Cross of Liberty, 3rd Class on its upper left corner.
The President of Finland is the Grand Master of the Order of the White Rose of Finland and of the Order of the Lion of Finland, and usually of the Order of the Cross of Liberty as well, Grand Mastership of which is attached to the position of Commander-in-chief.
The Order of the Cross of Liberty was founded on March 4, 1918, upon the initiative of Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim. The Finnish artist Akseli Gallen-Kallela was commissioned to design the Order's insignia with the Old-Scandinavian Fylfot.

What a dangerous assumption to make

To think that y'all encountered the same God. Or that it was just the same God we're dealing with and the only one.

Vaguely same looking? Yea.
Exact same thing? Doubt. They're even seen in different places.
Split personality or split consciousness/soul is what I'd honestly theorize. Same person, intrinsically linked, but different line of thinking and different goals. And different ways of manifesting. Where OPM God we know and hate manifests in divine cosmic power and stars and steals people's identities, this one manifests in wisps of wind and specks of blood. It's form seems to be that of human cardiovascular system.

He represented time because he could see into the past with one face and into the future with the other.[43] Hence, Janus was worshipped at the beginnings of the harvest and planting times, as well as at marriages, deaths and other beginnings. He represented the middle ground between barbarism and civilization, rural and urban space, youth and adulthood. Having jurisdiction over beginnings Janus had an intrinsic association with omens and auspices

Maybe Saitama punching Garou had more causality reverse than we realized and everyone is suddenly losing memory of monsterization ever existing because Saitama punched the reality and Garou's monster form so hard he forgot all the mysteries of monsterization and everyone alongside it are becoming the same. That would be fucking wild. We're putting the car on reverse mode.

Here's to wondering whether Blast and buddies even KNOW about the god in the moon/heavens and if they're only ever talking about the God inside the dimensional plane... still fairly mysterious, as it should be.
Interesting times ahead when people figure out the mysteries of God(ly) beings.

"at least you didn't singe my hair again. try again." eventually, cecilia would get it. she would come into her powers and likely be quite powerful in her mastership of fire. unfortunately, that day didn't seem to be this one...tomorrow was also looking grim. deciding there had been enough destruction for one day, she quickly called on her own power, encapsulating the others and shrinking it to a small, nearly harmless flame before she used a touch of water to extinguish it. Beware of the Mind

The mind plays a thousand tricks to justify and becomes habitually beset by its own thought creation.
It is at time most unreliable and becomes harassment for its own desire that is dominated by its own passion.
It takes the vigilance of mastership to keep an eye open upon ones own mental processes. To remember always, that the mind is the worst enemy and as well the most powerful instrument.
The mind is a useful servant, but a bad master.
This makes it, to no wonder that the world is filled with peoples conflicting mental issues, based on notions of fears, to face reality.
The mastering of the mind is the virtue that cannot be deceived.
Even all meditative visions are another lure; one has to become beware of.
The Master is in control with the audible life stream, the divine order, the Holy Spirit and establishes unity towards higher ground.
The power of abundance falls into place, because the worst enemy of desire that overwhelm the mind and enslaves the soul, does not exist.
Ignorance will darken the intelligence to make space for desires to creep up and demand. The master get rid of desires by placing before the mind something that has a far greater attraction.
The music of the audible life stream or the living word of God is the deliverance from bondage.
Desires simply disappear in the great stream of life and the Holy Spirit as soon as a person becomes one with that luminous reality.
When the attraction for that eternal reality becomes dominant in one’s life, then all lover attraction cease.
It is the spirit of discipleship and its necessary attainment that opens the vision and journey along the spiritual path.
Wisdom and its emotional intelligence prove itself according to the importance one attracts in life, to the greater or smaller things.
There are limits to the precaution on can take in the affairs of one’s life; and the horizon of that limit is the trust in the divine order.
