Crown and Chrome - Chapter 1
Synopsis: How you meet Kihyun for the first time, in the past and in the present when he comes back to you
Word count: 3.9k
Triggers: none
Author’s notes: MX members are all different ages, assume seasons occur like in the southern hemisphere
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Present
You glanced at the photo frames on Hyungwon’s desk as he looked over the papers you just handed him. Cherub cheeked smiling faces looked back at you, much like the round cheeks Hyungwon had. Hyungwon’s children, whom you had met several times and even bought Christmas presents for.
“Miss y/n, are you busy this weekend?” Hyungwon asked, without looking up from his papers.
“Aside from your party, no. Was there anything you needed?”
“Yes, actually,” he said, finally looking up at you. “Go on a date.”
You looked back at him, confused. “Oh um I wasn’t aware you were…”
“Of course it’s not for me,” he groaned. “It's for you. I want you to go on a date this weekend.”
You had a similar conversation with the two Mr Lees on the executive team. Currently, you three were milling about in the break room.
“Y/n, when are we getting invitations for your wedding?” Lee Minhyuk asked.
“I don’t know, how much notice do you require?”
Minhyuk groaned and Lee Hoseok laughed at your reply.
“Y/n, the only notice we’ve been getting is how badly your dates fail,” Hoseok said.
“Yeah, y/n, live life a little bit,” Minhyuk said while he raised his coffee mug in a toast.
Minhyuk and Hoseok had recently become architectural directors after being at your company for as long as you can remember. But in the time they climbed the corporate ladder, you jumped up several rungs when you inherited a majority share holding in MX Property Development. Prior to that, you were the head of legal affairs, but now you dealt with all the executive jobs your mother left you after she jetted off to the Seychelles or French Curacao or somewhere.
Mr Son, another member of the MX executive team, drifted into the break room.
“Hi there y/n,” he said as he reached for some protein powder in a nearby cabinet.
“Damn, Hyunwoo, you’re hitting the gym that early today?” You asked as you pointed at the microwave clock.
Hyunwoo shrugged. “Yeah why not? Plus, if you join me, I could introduce you to someone who could be your date this weekend.”
You groaned. “Did Hyungwon tell everyone about that?”
Hoseok, the older of the two Mr Lees, laughed. “The entire executive team knows the only time you got close to marriage was looking at my son’s prenup.”
Minhyuk smirked and added, “And the time you hit on that fashion designer shamelessly after a meeting is probably the second closest you’ve ever been to marriage.”
“YAH!!!” You cried and smacked him. “I’ve been in long term relationships before, okay?”
Another voice floated to the break room as Hyungwon walked in. “With all due respect y/n, six months sleeping with some biker when you were nineteen is not a long term relationship.”
The others in the room chortled loudly at that.
“You’re lucky my mother hired you, and not me,” you growled, even though you knew Hyungwon meant no harm.
“You can’t fire me anyways, when I’ve already handed in my retirement notice,” Hyungwon chuckled. “You better bring a date this weekend okay?”
“50 bucks says she doesn’t,” Minhyuk giggled and Hoseok muttered “deal” in response.
You rolled your eyes. “Sometimes I wonder if I should do some restructuring at this firm.”
As you rode home that night, on your motorcycle, your mind wandered to thoughts about the biker Hyungwon mentioned. That biker was the man who ruined all other men for you. You first met him while walking through some of the outer piers at the harbour, lined with abandoned, rusting warehouses. He had refurbished one to use as his garage and tinker on bikes with. It had been several years since then, and the warehouses had been replaced by restaurants and a bustling marina which you (or rather your mum’s firm) owned after redeveloping it. The marina and some remnants of the old harbour could be seen from the windows in your office at MX Property Development. You’d be lying if you said you never stared out of the windows for extended periods of time.
Today, you stopped by your favourite restaurant at the marina. The business had changed owners a few times, but each owner and their staff got to know you quickly. They knew your usual order (hot chips with aioli, and keep it coming), and your favourite seat (by the window, in the westernmost corner). So naturally, you were ushered there, your food was brought out within minutes, and you began pondering what Hyungwon said today.
The Past
It was the summer after graduating high school, and you accompanied your mother on a site visit to an area she was considering redeveloping. You were tired of staying home doing nothing, and your university classes wouldn’t begin for another 3 months. While your mum spoke with surveyors, analysts and other stakeholders, you wandered off on your own, headphones in. You barely heard the sound of engines and wheels skidding somewhere in front of you, until you saw a boy with orange hair on a bike, with smoke coming from the tires.
“Kihyun, we told you not to go so fast!” Someone called, and you saw two more boys running towards the orange haired Kihyun from inside one of the warehouses.
Kihyun let out some heavy breaths, then his gaze fell on you. “We got company,” he said towards the warehouse entrance.
Two heads popped out, one with black hair and one with red hair in spacebuns.
You stared back at Kihyun, your head cocked to the side, studying him as he studied you. He wore black leather pants and some sort of faux leather jacket with various patches attached.
Kihyun looked at you in your pale pink sheath dress. Clearly, you didn't belong anywhere near here.
“Hi, can I help you?” He asked as he got off his bike and approached you.
You removed your headphones and stood still.
“I promise I won’t hurt you,” Kihyun said.
“I was just uhh walking around. I came here with some people, but then we got separated so uh yeah, here I am I guess?” You replied.
You were smiling so sweetly and innocently that Kihyun almost forgot what he wanted to say next. But once he gathered himself, he asked, “Do you need directions back or anything?”
You continued smiling and shook your head. “Nope, I am completely okay. My mum is probably busy with the investors anyways.”
Kihyun nodded, not quite processing what any investors had to do with you visiting an abandoned warehouse.
“Were you also supposed to be at that meeting today? You don’t exactly look like you’re dressed for work in these warehouses,” Kihyun asked, gesturing at you dress.
“Oh right,” you said while absentmindedly smoothing the sides of your dress.
Kihyun’s eyes followed the movements of your hands and he couldn’t help but notice the way the dress hugged your hips.
“I’m just on vacation now before uni begins, and my mum thought it would be nice to take me to work with her since we all know I’ll end up working at her company in the end,” you explained.
Kihyun slowly shook his head as he processed your words. “So your mum is the one who’s been buying up parts of this harbour?”
“Yeah,” you replied.
Kihyun watched as you lifted your hair from your neck and fanned yourself. Of course, it’s summer, the UV index is through the roof, and you’re standing in the sun.
“Hey uh, would you like to come in? The sun’s kinda warm,” Kihyun said, and gestured towards the warehouse.
“Wow really? Thank you, that would be lovely,” you replied and walked past Kihyun to move inside.
Kihyun watched you with some confusion as he followed you in, your gait being strangely sure and confident. “I assure you we won’t hurt you. There’s some drinks in the fridge, feel free to sit by the fan.”
“That’s very kind of you, thanks,” you replied as you looked around the warehouse.
Several bikes littered the space, some with their parts removed and lying on the ground. There was a faint smell of grease, and shelves filled with toolboxes and spare parts.
“So you’re a mechanic,” you said, with a hint of awe in your voice.
Kihyun came and stood beside you. “Yes. And you’re MX Development’s CEO’s daughter.”
You hummed in agreement.
“Did you ever think its a bad idea revealing information like that to someone you just met?” Kihyun asked.
When you turned to face him, Kihyun wondered if your doe eyes could possibly look more innocent.
“Well uhh, I can see why it would be bad but, everybody at school knew, and many people figure it out pretty quickly,” you replied.
“Are you sure that’s not because you mention your mum’s job in the first few seconds of meeting someone?” Kihyun teased.
Your gaze turned sharper as you turned to face him. “Actually, it’s because I can provide decent property investment advice myself. I know how real estate markets work, and how property prices change with mining booms, migration, government policy and other things.”
Kihyun smirked. “That’s impressive. Is that all on your resume then?”
You shook your head and a small pout formed on your lips. “No, I just have my school marks and the degree I’ll be studying.”
“Which is?” Kihyun asked.
“Law,” you replied.
Kihyun didn’t ask anything more. He motioned for you to take a seat on a couch and headed to a fridge at the back of the studio. He returned a few seconds later with two chilled water bottles. He loosened the cap of one and gave it to you. You both silently took several sips as Kihyun sat on the opposite side of the couch to you.
“What about you then? I feel like motorcycle rider isn’t really a job,” you said.
“Do you think a job is all there is in life?” Kihyun asked.
You glanced up at the ceiling as if in thought. “Well, no, but you do spend a great deal of your life working, so it definitely contributes to a person’s character.”
Kihyun chuckled and replied, “Well you’re right about that. I am a motorcycle mechanic actually, and this is where I modify my bikes for races and things.”
“I thought that type of thing only happened in movies,” you mused more to yourself than him.
“Something tells me there’s a lot of things you’ve only experienced in movies,” Kihyun smirked.
You narrowed your eyes at him. “What are you implying there?”
“I wasn’t implying anything. I just think its funny that someone like you would be getting comfortable on my ratty couch.”
The Present
The event you promised to bring a date to was Hyungwon’s retirement party. Held at the Four Seasons, your admin staff had invited the whole firm as well as some big names and allies in the industry. You wore a long sleeved pink dress that reached just above your knees, with your regular diamond hoop earrings that you wore daily since you were 20.
“So who’s replacing Hyungwon as your head of investments?” Somin from Kard Investments asked while you both served yourselves food from the buffet.
“Why? Tired of being just an associate?” You joked.
“Well, from what I gather, head of investment at MX pays just as much with less hours. It’s a good position,” Somin shrugged.
“So apply,” you replied. “I’m not joking, Somin. The position won’t necessarily be filled internally so you have a shot.”
Somin placed a hand on your arm, silently telling you to be quiet. She moved you to sit down at a table, and only spoke once you had both started nibbling at your food.
“The reason I asked is because a buddy of mine applied,” Somin said in a low voice. “He’s been making waves recently for bagging some good deals, but he’s always said he will end up at MX someday.”
“Huh, wonder what his story is,” you said as you started eating.
Somin glanced around the room as if checking whether someone was listening. “He said there was someone he knew at MX. And that he wanted to find her before it was too late.”
The Past
The second time you saw Kihyun was about a week after the first time. You were back at the harbour, though you didn’t come with your mother’s entourage. This time, you were mindful of any fast moving motorcycles as you made your way to the warehouse where you first met Kihyun. The door was partly open when you arrived, so you slipped inside.
“Ki-kihyun? You in here?” You called as you walked in side. You dropped your bag on the ratty couch you had sat on last week. The lights were on, and tools were scattered around like someone left in a hurry. You walked further in, until you saw a ladder leading to a loft. Perhaps against your best judgement, you climbed up to it, and found a neatly made bed and a table full of skincare products, including many of the brands you used.
You heard the door to the warehouse being pushed open so you climbed down from the loft. A tall boy with yellow and orange hair was standing at the entrance. Did all of Kihyun’s friends have unnatural hair colours?
“Oh I haven’t seen you before,” the boy said. “Where did Kihyun go?”
“I don’t know, I was hoping you knew,” you replied, still not sure who this boy was.
“I don’t know, I’m not the one coming down from his loft,” the boy said with a shrug.
“Well you’re welcome to wait for him with me,” you said, and gestured to the couch. While he got comfortable, you went to the fridge to get a bottle of water for him like Kihyun did for you.
When you returned with the water bottle and stood in front of the boy, he looked you up and down. “You don’t look like Kihyun’s type… you’re too pretty.”
You rolled your eyes and shoved the bottle towards him. The boy smirked, nestling further into the couch and sitting with his legs spread wide. After a good gulp of water and a resounding gasp, he asked, “So how did you get involved with Kihyun?”
“We uh crossed paths?” You offered. It was true in a literal sense.
“And now you’re so close he lets you up to his loft huh?” The boy smirked.
“No, we’re just acquaintances, it’s not like we do anything together,” you replied. “Honestly, I’m not even sure he likes me.”
The boy’s jaw dropped open. “Wow I never thought he was that kind of guy.”
“Why? What’s Kihyun like?”
The boy scratched his hair, looking a little confused. “He doesn’t really bring girls here. But he also isn’t the type to lead someone around like this.”
You stared at the boy for a few seconds before exclaiming, “Wait you thought we were dating?”
The boy made an annoyed face. “Well it’s never just fucking where Kihyun is considered.”
“Uh wow okay, good to hear,” you said, taking a step away from the boy, slightly taken aback by his language. You turned around, wondering whether you should pretend you needed to go to the fridge or something, but then you caught site of a motorcycle helmet clad figure in a familiar jacket covered in patches emerging from somewhere at the back of the warehouse.
“Princess, is everything okay?” Kihyun asked as he took off his helmet.
Your breath hitched at the pet name. You didn’t think it would have an effect on you, but you liked it. Still, why would Kihyun say that when he’d met you once?
Behind you, the fire haired boy was laughing. “I knew you could never just hook up, man. You’re already calling her princess.”
Kihyun walked past you to the boy, and said through gritted teeth, “I meant you, Princess Mingi. What are you doing in my garage? Were you hoping to find out what I’ve prepared for this weekend?”
Mingi placed the water bottle down and smirked. “Your girl doesn’t like being called princess? Why not? She’s very pretty.”
Kihyun followed Mingi’s gaze to where you stood, fidgeting with your watch. Today, you were wearing denim shorts that were hidden beneath an oversized sweater, creating the illusion you had no pants on. It was hot, and Kihyun suddenly wondered if you’d look like that wearing his oversized clothes too.
Kihyun returned his attention to Mingi. “You should leave. I’ll see you this weekend.”
Mingi chuckled and got up. When he reached the door, he turned around and winked at you, then left.
Kihyun fluffed his hair and turned to face you, asking, “What can I help you with?”
“Oh I was just in the area and wanted to say hello. I didn’t mean to intrude or anything, but then your friend came in and I talked to him for a bit,” you stuttered out, then added, “I will leave if this is a bad time.”
Kihyun sighed. “No, don’t, you can stay a bit, I’ll order us some pizza or something.”
Kihyun joined you on the couch and handed his phone to you, indicating for you to pick what pizza you wanted.
“So what did Mingi ask you?”
“How we met, our relationship status, things like that,” you said while scrolling Kihyun’s phone.
“He’s not my friend, just so you know,” Kihyun said.
“Oh,” you let out. “Well I didn’t tell him anything sensitive. I just said we crossed paths, if that makes you feel better.”
“No, don’t worry about it,” Kihyun said again with a sigh.
You looked up from the phone at him. His shoulders were slumped, his head hung down.
“Is something bothering you? Is it me? I can leave if you want to be alone. I really just wanted to say hi while I was in the area,” you rambled.
Kihyun lifted his head up quickly. “What? No, nonono, it’s not that. It’s just that Mingi is my rival, and we’re racing this weekend.”
“Ah so you’re stressed. That’s okay, happens to the best of us,” you replied, handing the phone to Kihyun with your pizza choices inputted.
Kihyun hummed in agreement as he finished making the payment. After a beat, he said, “Next time you’re here, be careful okay?”
“Be careful of what?”
“Of who,” Kihyun corrected. “Not everybody who comes to this warehouse will treat you well. I know Mingi wouldn’t do something as disgusting as hurting you to get to me, but some bikers might. I don’t want you to run into someone like that.”
“Oh,” you let out meekly. “I never really thought about it that way.”
“Honestly y/n, in the two times I’ve met you, I learned you never think about safety,” Kihyun said, and you couldn’t tell if he was disappointed in your behaviour or just concerned.
“Well, nothing has ever happened to me, so I just assumed what I am already doing keeps me safe,” you replied, a small pout forming on your lips.
“Mingi was right about you,” Kihyun said as he took in your adorable pout. “You really are a princess.”
That word again. It made something clench inside you. You swallowed and asked, “Why am I a princess, Kihyun?”
“Your life is peaceful. Your family own some of the most lucrative real estate in this state. You go to good schools, get good grades and buy nice things. People don’t have a reason to hurt you.”
“Wow.” You said in shock. “Just wow.”
“Was I wrong, princess?” Kihyun asked, emphasising the last word.
“Don’t call me that, it does something to me,” you said with a scowl.
“I know. That’s why I said it,” Kihyun grinned.
“Fuck you,” you muttered. “I am not a princess. You just shoved me into strain and opportunity theories on crime occurrence.”
Kihyun blinked. “Crime? I didn’t say that.”
“You didn’t have to. You literally just explained why my life lacks strains conducive to criminality then linked it to the idea that crime is highly opportunistic,” you replied.
“Y/n, I’m still lost. Unlike you, I didn’t learn these things at school,” Kihyun said, his jaw tight.
“Don’t worry, most people don’t. I learned this stuff myself,” you said with a proud smile. Kihyun thought it was cute.
“Ah, so the princess has a library?” He teased.
“Stahp!! I am not a princess, I do crazy things too,” you whined as you gently shoved his shoulder and laughed.
“Really? Like what?” Kihyun asked intrigued. “What’s the craziest, wildest thing you’ve done?” He caught your hand on his shoulder and place it down on your thigh, holding it slightly longer than necessary.
You took a deep breath before answering. “What I have planned to do this weekend.”
The Present
You and Somin finished eating quickly before going to mingle around. You approached your executive team who were all huddled up drinking. Minhyuk handed you his half finished bottle of beer when you joined. You briefly flashed him a look of annoyance but took it anyways. It wasn’t like you to pull rank to remind him you were his superior and weren’t going to drink his leftover beer. As the night went on, different figures approached Hyungwon to congratulate him and wish him well. A select few approached you to congratulate you on inheriting the CEO position, though it was something you had always expected your mother to do eventually.
And even though you did not agree with most of the decisions your mother made for you, you weren’t stupid enough to pass up on decisions that would unilaterally benefit you.
“What are you staring at?” Hoseok asked.
You didn’t realised you had been zoning out.
“Did someone catch your eye?” He asked while taking a sip from a soft drink can.
When you didn’t reply, Hoseok followed your gaze to find a man with orange hair in a suit. The man’s back was to you, and he was talking quite animatedly with a group of investment bankers. Or so you assumed since the whole group was Kard Investments’ trading floor.
“Do you know him?” Hoseok asked you.
“No, but the hair…” you said, more to yourself than him.
“Oh for sure, he needs to get rid of that before he comes into work on Monday.”
“Monday?” You asked, eyes widening.
“Yeah, didn’t Hyungwon tell you? That’s the guy that’ll take over for him,” Hoseok replied.
“When did HR confirm that? Who did the hiring? Why wasn’t I notified?” You thought aloud.
“Now those are all valid questions and best left to Hyunwoo. He met with the guy last week to finalise things so he knows him best,” Hoseok said.
“So our new hire is from Kard?” You asked, nudging your chin towards the congregation of Kard traders.
“Yes, but you know what’s funny is that he’s always said he wants to work at MX,” Hoseok mused.
You and Hoseok stared after the orange haired man some more.
“I don’t suppose you happen to know his name?” You asked Hoseok.
“It’s Yoo Kihyun.”

Hello, can I request Hades, Poseidon and Thor marrying reader and their honeymoon scenarios?
Pictures belong to their rightful owners.
Hades
-The wedding- stunning!
-The reception- beautiful!!
-The party- out of this world!!!
-Hades couldn’t believe that he was finally married to you, he had been stealing glances at you ever since you walked down the aisle in your back wedding dress, which made you stand out as the two of you had told guests to show up in white.
-His stares looked like a love sick puppy, something Zeus was not afraid to tease him about for basically the whole reception party.
-Once the guests had left, Hades whisked you away, after you changed, and went off on your honeymoon together, to the Seychelles, where nobody knew that you were going except for the staff who were waiting for your arrival.
-It was dark out by the time you arrived, the waves on the white sandy beaches looked stunning even at night.
-You were both exhausted, from the wedding to the reception to the long flight to your honeymoon, you promised to have your wedding night in the morning, before breakfast, as you were both dead tired.
Poseidon
-You beauty entranced everyone when you walked down the aisle, but no one more so than your husband Poseidon. Your dress was beautiful, white until your caves, then it was an ombre of blues and greens, like the ocean itself.
-His heart swelled that he feared that it was going to pop as you reached him.
-The ceremony was fine until Zeus, to be a gremlin, shouted, “I object!” Poseidon didn’t even hesitate to pull out his trident, which he had to be restrained by several other gods while you were giggling, finding it humorous.
-Poseidon spared no expense to the reception, your compromise, agreeing on a simple ceremony but a big party, one that was talked about for weeks, even months afterwards.
-That night, you spent the night at home, planning on going to your honeymoon destination, Hawaii, tomorrow.
-He couldn’t help but wait like a child that was told he couldn’t peek at his most amazing present on Christmas day, while you were changing into something more ‘comfortable’.
-When you walked out, his icy façade broke, smiling brightly at you, making grabby hands which made you grin.
-You made it to him, but instead of stepping into his awaiting arms, you grinned playfully, holding out your hand, “You owe me ten bucks. I told you Zeus was going to pull something!”
-He snorted, his hands coming to his face as he broke down laughing for once which got you laughing as well, enough that you weren’t able to start your private celebration for twenty more minutes, as you both kept laughing.
Thor
-Loki had so much fun, he told you, at the reception, on how Thor was going to run away, terrified to see you, which Thor sent him a glare over, and Loki, being always prepared, was able to get the perfect shot of Thor’s face when you walked down the aisle in your dress.
-Your dress was beautiful, snow white with flowing features of gold.
-The wedding was simple, but beautiful, you gave Thor a sword you had designed for him, even though he didn’t use a sword, and he presented you with a pure black kitten, traditional Norse wedding gifts for each other.
-The reception was definitely more modern, a massive party with all of the gods and humans in attendance, with lots of drinking, drinking shenanigans, and photos what would haunt many of the gods for years to come.
-For your honeymoon, the two of you had a hard time deciding, wanting somewhere completely different, so you were going to spend the next two weeks exploring Japan.
-You were unable to leave until the next morning, as Thor had been pulled into a drinking contest, something you were pouting at him for the most of the day, as he was hungover, but you also couldn’t help but tease him that he had to make up your wedding night to you.
-His eyes blazed with power, hearing this, which made you grin, as he tried to sober up more, to make good on your request once you were in your hotel for the night.

Loveless Marriage (FrUK) Chapter 12
Loveless Marriage
Chapter 12
Word Count: 4,281 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After a sleepless night of tossing and turning, well, just for Arthur, the Englishman and the Frenchman were able to get home the next morning. Arthur might’ve broken a law or two and let Francis drive because he was so tired. Although he did end up waking up a few times on the way back when the Frenchman decided that driving on the left side of the road was a silly rule and he wouldn’t be following it…
A few days passed since then and Arthur couldn’t quite put his finger on it, but Francis had seemed rather… off. He wanted to say that the Frenchman’s strange behavior started the day they took the trip to London, but they hadn’t spoken for a week prior to that, so he could only conclude that Francis was still upset about what happened in Seychelles. He couldn’t blame him for still thinking about it. It was haunting him every night, too, after all… But he needed to get over it at some point.
That was why when Arthur received an invitation to a business party in London, which was addressed to him and his newly wed, he decided to keep it to himself. Francis was clearly still in a weird mood, and the whole thing was just a weird situation in general. If the two of them went to the party together, they wouldn’t be able to deny being in a relationship, and people were sure to ask about it because they hadn’t attended any events together since their marriage was announced. Arthur concluded that it was best if he just never mentioned that it was a party and Francis was invited, too. That way, he could simply say that it was a business meeting, go to the party for a few hours, and return home before dark.
However, things could never work out that easily. Arthur had carelessly hidden the invitation under a stack of magazines on the coffee table in the living room. When Francis was cleaning, naturally, he moved the items on the table and came across the invitation. What Arthur couldn’t have expected was…
“Arthur, did you see that we were invited to a party? It sounds like it’s a big one, too,” Francis said, peering around the corner to look at the Englishman who was washing dishes in the kitchen sink.
Arthur turned around, even more than he was to see that Francis found the invitation, he was surprised to hear the Frenchman starting a conversation with him. Not to mention that he had an excited expression on his face. The last time he had seen him remotely close to being that interested in something was when they found that bakery in London a few days ago. That was probably why he…
“No– What? Where did you find that?” Arthur lied, shaking the water off his hands over the sink and drying them on a nearby towel before he walked over to the other man, pretending he had never seen the invitation before in his life.
“It was on the coffee table. You must’ve put it there. Don’t you remember?” Francis asked, suspicious of how Arthur would have forgotten something that, in his opinion, sounded like a lot of fun.
“Oh… It, um, must’ve been something that I meant to read, but forgot about,” Arthur muttered, taking the paper from Francis.
“Well, it says that the party is tomorrow, so you probably missed your chance to RSVP for it…” Francis replied, the ever slight change in his tone somehow made him seem dejected.
“No, no, they don’t actually care about that sort of thing..! I’ll, uh, send them an email, and I’m sure they’ll say it’s alright if we come!” Arthur replied hastily, surprising even himself with how quickly he jumped to try to prevent the other man from returning to his previous gloomy mood. He should’ve been grateful that Francis was in such a mood, because when he wasn’t energetic and peppy, he also wasn’t teasing the other man, or trying to prove that his taste was superior, but… something about Francis being in a bad mood, especially a sad, depressing one, put Arthur in a bad mood, too.
“Oh, is that so?” Francis asked, seeming to lighten up as soon as he heard Arthur’s response. “Well, send them an email and find out! We’ll need some time to think about what to wear and, of course, what to tell them about you and me.”
“R-Right, I’ll get right on that,” Arthur replied with nervous laughter as he walked over to his computer. Fortunately, Francis didn’t follow him, so he simply replied to another business email and hoped that the sounds of clicking keys were convincing enough.
Some time passed and Arthur awkwardly said, “It’s just as I said– they quickly responded and told me it’s not a problem that I didn’t RSVP on time,” which was once again followed by nervous laughter.
The Englishman couldn’t quite pinpoint why he felt nervous about lying about a stupid business party, but it was probably because… more than feeling nervous, he felt… guilty. The one thing that clearly cheered Francis up was also something that Arthurt had lied about and kept a secret from him… If Francis found out, they would surely get into a fight, and Arthur wasn’t sure what he would even be able to say if that happened.
“Vraiment? They replied so quickly,” Francis mused. “Well, why don’t we go look at your closet then? I should hope that you’re not planning on wearing that tacky, I mean– unique coat that you bought in London the other day.”
Francis had definitely cheered up, that was for sure.
“You can’t say that something suits me and then call it tacky!” Arthur retorted, unable to just let that one slide.
“Non, non, I said unique!”
“After you realized that you slipped up!”
The following day, Arthur and Francis showed up to the party in sleek, black suits. Admittedly, Arthur did feel rather confident when the other man helped him select an outfit and style his hair. He wasn’t always the best at choosing outfits for things, but Francis always looked stylish, so he figured that if they were wearing the same thing, then he must be fashionable, too.
Upon entering the venue, Arthur was delighted to hear compliments, thinking that Francis’s fashion advice had really worked, but then he realized that all of the compliments were aimed at the Frenchman. Well, so much for that.
“Aren’t you Mr. Kirkland– or should I say, Mr. Bonnefoy-Kirkland?” A woman asked, approaching Arthur.
“Ah… yes, and you are?” Arthur asked, deflating some when he heard the Frenchman’s last name tacked onto his.
The woman introduced herself as the CEO of an up and coming clothing company. Then, before Arthur could get another word in, she proceeded to start what sounded like a sales pitch. It sort of caught Arthur off guard and an annoyed expression crept onto his face as he waited for her to finish talking.
She went on and on about how she already partnered with some other businesses whose representatives were at the party. Then, of course, the question came out.
“Would you be interested in partnering with us? I know your watch company is already well established, but I promise you that there would be something in it for you, too.”
Before Arthur could flat out reject her and tell her that she had wasted too much of his time, Francis swooped in and saved the Kirkland family name.
“Ah, mademoiselle, that’s a lovely offer, but we weren’t anticipating starting any new business partnerships this evening, so I’m afraid we’ll have to pass for tonight. Please take our business card and reach out again in the future,” Francis said in a charming tone as he held the woman’s hand while slipping Arthur’s business card into it.
Once the woman got past the giggles she let out after Francis held her hand, she replied, “Of course, of course. That makes sense. You’ll be hearing from me again soon!”
Finally, the woman left, causing Arthur to let out a sigh of relief.
“Thanks, I wasn’t sure how much longer I could listen to that…” Arthur muttered, glancing over at the slightly taller blonde beside him, the thought that he looked rather good in a suit crossing his mind.
“Oui, I could tell, but it’s not good for your business if you’re rude to potential business partners.”
“Since when do you care about my business? And actually, how did you get my business card?”
“I took it out of your back pocket,” Francis replied innocently with a small shrug before he reached out for an hors d'oeuvre on a tray that was passing by him.
“What were you doing in my back pocket..?”
As the night progressed, similar situations continued to occur. Whether it was other people nonchalantly pitching business deals or people who just wanted to socialize, Francis continued to charm everyone he spoke to and Arthur took the back seat. The Englishman didn’t particularly mind because it took the immense social pressure that he felt off of himself, but it also left him impressed by the Frenchman.
Arthur would’ve been lying if he said that he wasn’t a bit worried Francis might end up saying something out of line. He thought that he might make some kind of joke or jab at him in front of business connections that had a good impression of him, but on the contrary, he seemed to take Arthur’s business seriously. In fact, Arthur thought that they might even have a better impression of him after talking to Francis. Everything was going well. A bit too well…
“Mr Kirkland! Or should I say Bonnefoy-Kirkland? I’m so glad you were able to make it tonight!” A man exclaimed, enthusiastically approaching Arthur. Francis hadn’t met that man yet, but he was on a social high and was more than willing to introduce himself.
“Francis, this is Mr. Lukasiewicz, the host of this party. Mr. Lukasiewicz, this is Francis, my… husband,” Arthur mumbled the last word so badly that Francis couldn’t help but glare at him.
“He’s your what?” The host repeated loudly. He probably knew what he said, but he was making him repeat it anyway.
“Husband,” Arthur replied, his cheeks suddenly pink as he looked away.
“Your husband? You said he wouldn’t be able to make it because he was so sick! I’m really glad that changed. It’s nice to meet you,” The man replied, shaking Francis’s hand.
“I was sick?” Francis repeated, his gaze falling on Arthur, who wouldn’t look at him.
There was silence as the host stared at them both, his expression going from expectant to confused. Eventually the tension became too much for even the host to bear, so he repeated that he was happy to meet Francis again, and then he walked away to greet other guests.
“Arthur?” Francis urged, as Arthur still wouldn’t look at him, overwhelmed with guilt.
Arthur knew that Francis loved parties and anything social, but he was embarrassed by the whole arranged marriage fiasco, and he thought it would be a burden to go to London with him again. Thinking back on his own reasoning, his heart sank and he felt so guilty he didn’t know what to do. He couldn’t look at the Frenchman.
“You didn’t really forget about that invitation, did you?”
Francis had a terrible feeling in his stomach then, too, as he realized that the Englishman considered him a nuisance, that he was telling his business acquaintances lies so that he didn’t have to be the bad guy when he excluded him. Francis had been fantasizing about someone who thought so lowly of him?
“Enjoy your party,” Francis said, his voice so quiet it was almost a whisper. He then left immediately, not waiting for any sort of reply or objection… mostly because he feared that there wouldn’t be one.
Arthur swallowed the lump in his throat, still not turning around to face where Francis had been standing. He was paralyzed, the world around him stopped as he stood there wondering how he could’ve been so rude to the other man. If he was in his situation… he would’ve been hurt.
Despite the terrible feeling Arthur had, he continued to fake a smile and engage in small talk as he slowly made his way towards the exit. He had hoped that by the time he made it outside he would’ve come up with something good to say, some sort of apology or way that he could make it up to him, but nothing came to mind.
The Englishman expected to see Francis outside the venue somewhere, pacing around or maybe even talking to a cute girl, but… he was nowhere to be found.
Arthur pulled out his phone and looked at a map, trying to see if there were any convenience stores nearby. Maybe Francis had gone to get a drink or something, he thought. However, after walking to all of the nearby stores, he concluded that he must not have done that.
It had been at least an hour, so he started to panic. Once again, Arthur must’ve made a poor decision– he should’ve ran after him as soon as he went to leave. He should’ve known that all the time in the world wouldn’t have been enough for him to come up with a good apology– he was terrible at that sort of thing. He would just have to be honest with him, to tell him that he did care about him, wanted him to come, and even enjoyed spending time with him at the party. He knew that they quarreled frequently, but that wasn’t indicative of how he felt about him. He wanted to tell him all of those things, but… where was he?
Arthur had avoided calling or texting the other man because he assumed he wouldn’t answer, and he was right. Forteen calls and twenty text messages. They were going through, but he wasn’t answering or reading them.
Feeling defeated, Arthur walked aimlessly around London. Just as he wanted to avoid, day had turned to night and it would be difficult to drive home. If he got to drive home that was. He couldn’t just return home without him.
After wandering for another thirty minutes or so, Arthur found himself in front of the famous London Eye. It was a massive, brightly lit ferris wheel, so he wasn’t sure how he hadn’t noticed himself walking towards it until then, but there it was.
The line for the ferris wheel was rather long, and he had been walking alongside it for quite a bit until he saw familiar blonde locks and a fancy black suit.
“Francis!”
At first Arthur thought that maybe he got the wrong guy, but as he got closer and closer he realized that it was indeed him, but he was just that good at ignoring him.
“Francis, we need to talk..! I know that lying about the invitation was wrong. I wish I hadn’t done it, but I did..! I didn’t mean to make you feel bad or–”
The line started to move up and Francis still hadn’t even flinched when Arthur spoke to him. It made the Englishman look like some sort of crazy person who had just cut the line that Francis had clearly been waiting in for quite some time. That seemed to be what everyone was thinking as they all glared at him and whispered amongst themselves while staring at him.
“If someone did that to me, I would be really hurt, so I… I understand if you don’t want to talk to me,” Arthur continued, his voice softer as he continued to follow after the other man as the line kept moving up. Francis seemed to be a bit more receptive when the Englishman’s voice softened like that, although he still wouldn’t look directly at him or say anything.
“I should’ve stopped you from leaving as soon as you started to walk away, but I was trying to think of a good apology, one that really… you know, made you feel better… But I… I couldn’t think of anything. I’m not good at that sort of thing,” Arthur continued, his voice growing so quiet it was almost a whisper. He wasn’t sure if the Frenchman was even listening to him.
“But it’s no excuse, Francis, I… I’m really sorry,” Arthur eventually said, causing Francis to look over at him for the first time since he approached him. “I saw how excited you looked when you saw the invitation and I’ve felt guilty ever since. You… you were great at the party, a lot better than anything I could’ve said, and…” Arthur trailed off.
The two of them remained silent for another minute or so as Arthur wondered what Francis was thinking and the line continued to grow shorter. Eventually, it was time to get on the ferris wheel and Arthur was left contemplating whether he should keep following the Frenchman or if it would be cutting the line because he seemed more like someone who was harassing him rather than his, well, husband.
Francis went to step onto the ferris wheel pod, but then he stopped and slowly turned around to look at the Englishman, who seemed to have decided to wait behind.
As Francis’s eyes locked with Arthur’s, his long, golden locks seemed to perfectly frame his face which was illuminated by the moonlight. It was then that Arthur noticed that the Frenchman had also unbuttoned the first few buttons on his shirt at some point after he left the party. Something about him looked picturesque when the moonlight shone on him in such a way.
Francis always looked good, but… suddenly, Arthur thought that Francis looked kind of… handsome. He almost felt… attracted to him.
Although it was just a thought and not something that he would dare speak out loud, it was enough to make Arthur blush and stop dead in his tracks. It seemed that Francis was saying something to him, but he had no clue what it was. He had finally said something, but he couldn't hear him. Great.
The worker urged people to continue loading onto the ferris wheel pod, but Arthur was still frozen, his eyes locked with the periwinkle ones in front of him.
“Are you coming or not?” Francis said, his voice soft despite the bad mood he was in. It was more so soft in an exhausted sort of way.
Arthur cursed himself for still not being able to get a word out, but he somehow managed to get his legs to move and followed the Frenchman onto the ferris wheel, an annoyed crowd of people pouring into the pod behind them.
Since the London Eye was such a big ferris wheel, it wasn’t just the two of them in the pod alone together. There were about twenty other people in there with them, but the quiet chatter amongst the others was kind of nice– it made up for the fact that the two of them were struggling to talk to one another.
Francis was standing by one of the walls, which was a window, gazing out of it, an expression on his face as if he was in deep thought. Arthur was standing beside him, but instead of just looking out the window, he kept looking back and forth between the view outside and Francis, trying to gauge if it would be okay to try and talk to him again.
“It’s a nice view, isn’t it? Arguably the best one in London,” Arthur said quietly, glancing over at the Frenchman again.
“I was hurt that you lied, but I understand,” Francis abruptly started, his voice calm. “The arranged marriage bothers you, and you wouldn’t want to be forced to discuss something that frustrates you with business acquaintances.”
“That’s true, but… I still shouldn’t have excluded you from something that you were invited to. I know how much you like–” “Arthur. It’s okay,” Francis interrupted, his voice still calm as he glanced towards the Englishman beside him. A small smile was on his face, but it bothered Arthur. He couldn’t tell what he was thinking.
“Well… good then,” Was all Arthur managed to say, still confused about the other man’s calmness after what was understandably an upsetting situation.
The two of them were silent for a moment again, and Arthur felt so strange. He was sort of anxious because he couldn’t tell what Francis was thinking, but contradictingly he also felt relieved because he was standing beside the other man after searching for him for so long.
In reality, Francis hadn’t been thinking about anything too profound. He was tired from waking up early to get ready for the party and walking around London for hours. His calmness was really just the result of him being sleepy and wanting to enjoy the view from the ferris wheel before they headed back to their rather boring rural home. Similar to how Arthur felt, since he knew the other man was there beside him, it relieved any anxiety he might’ve had about what he would do next.
“Arthur?”
“What?” The Englishman replied instantly, eager at the thought that the other man was going to talk to him. It was a reaction that left him feeling a little embarrassed.
“That over there… it’s Buckingham Palace, right?” Francis asked, pointing to a large, cream colored building in the distance.
“Oh… yes,” Arthur replied after he leaned over to get a closer look at what Francis was pointing at. Even though the Frenchman insisted that everything was okay, he was sort of surprised that they went from having a serious conversation to one about attractions.
Speaking of attractions, he… he suddenly had that same thought again. Something about the way Francis was standing beside him, quietly taking in the scenery and asking questions every once and awhile… something about it was… cute.
Arthur’s heart started to race as he considered every other possibility. Surely Francis wasn’t cute. No, he was definitely ugly. He probably only thought he was cute because he wasn’t talking non stop, making fun of this and that, or bragging about how he could do something better. But was that really enough to make him think that he was cute? And wasn’t everyone in the ferris wheel pod with them technically falling into that same category then..?
“Oh, and there’s Big Ben… But its real name is something else, isn’t it? What was it again..?” Francis murmured, putting his hand up to his chin as he tried to remember the name of it.
“The Great Clock of Westminster…” Arthur replied softly, his gaze resting on Francis instead of the clock.
“Oh? I thought that it had the name Elizabeth in it..?”
“Technically you’re right– it was renamed Elizabeth Tower to honor the queen about a decade ago… You know, you say you dislike things about England all the time, but you sure seem to know a lot about here…”
“Well, you know what they say…” Francis started, locking eyes with the emerald ones beside him, which were rather close because the Englishman had leaned in to see what he had been pointing at.
“What..?” Arthur asked, swallowing the lump in his throat as he backed away from the other man, his heart pounding in his chest when he became hyper aware of how close they had gotten.
“Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer,” Francis smirked.
Arthur scoffed and broke eye contact with the other man, looking back out the window. He felt like his heart was going to burst, he couldn’t bear to look into his eyes any longer.
“Arthur, what about –”
Suddenly, Francis’s sentence was interrupted by a warm hand which quickly went from the back of his neck and up into the underneath of his hair, working as a solid foundation to support the warm, soft lips that were pressed against his immediately after. At first, he was shocked, assuming that he must’ve been dreaming because… Arthur was kissing him.
The kiss was gentle and simple, just the two of their lips pressed against each other’s. But it lasted a few seconds– long enough for Francis to feel the heat that was radiating off of Arthur. He must’ve been so nervous, which only added to how cute it was.
As Arthur pulled away, due to his hand being on the other man’s head, Francis could feel the way his hand was shaking. He refused to make eye contact then, too. Instinctively, Francis reached out and took his hand in his, holding it close to him. Arthur’s eyes widened in surprise and he glanced back over at the other man when he felt his hand suddenly being pulled on. He didn’t know what to say, but… it seemed that was okay. Francis wasn’t saying anything either, but as he gazed out the window, a firm grasp on Arthur’s hand, he had a soft smile on his face.
They were silent for the remaining duration of the ferris wheel, but it wasn’t awkward and there wasn’t tension. They were comfortable in the silence.
On the way home, Arthur drove since Francis illegally took the wheel last time, and it was his fault they were going home so late again anyway…
The next day, Francis would talk to Arthur about the kiss, ask him what it meant, but… in the meantime… he wanted to fall asleep with the memory of Arthur's lips against his own fresh in his mind.

A AN Z OF QUEEN ELIZABETH II
By Charlotte Hodgman | Published 12 May 2022
A is for... ANNUS HORRIBILIS
“1992 is not a year on which I shall look back with undiluted pleasure... it has turned out to be an ‘Annus Horribilis’,” said the Queen, now famously, in a speech marking her 40th year on the throne. Indeed, 1992 had proved difficult for the royal family, with the breakdown of Prince Charles’ and Prince Andrew’s marriages, Princess Anne’s divorce, and a fire at Windsor Castle high on the list of unfortunate events.
B is for... BIRTHDAYS
Thanks to the unpredictability of the British weather, the Queen celebrates two birthdays every year: the day she was born (21 April) and the second Saturday in June. The two-birthday tradition began with George II in 1748 – his November birthday was deemed to be too cold for al fresco celebrations, so he decided to attach his birthday celebrations to the Trooping the Colour ceremonial parade held in the summer.
C is for... CORONATION CHICKEN
‘Poulet Reine Elizabeth’ – better known as coronation chicken – was dreamt up in 1953 by florist Constance Spry and cordon bleu chef Rosemary Hume. The dish is said to have been inspired by the ‘Jubilee Chicken’ recipe that was created in 1935 for George V’s Silver Jubilee, but, in an era of postwar rationing, coronation chicken is unlikely to have been on the menu of many street parties in 1953.
D is for... DOGS
The Queen’s love of dogs, specifically the corgi breed, is well-known; she has owned more than 30 corgis since her accession. Perhaps her closest canine friend, though, was Susan, the Pembroke Welsh corgi who was given to the-then Princess Elizabeth on her 18th birthday. The pup even took part in her wedding to Prince Philip – riding in the state coach (hidden under a blanket) and travelling with the royal couple on their honeymoon.
E is for... EMAIL
In March 1976, the Queen made history when she became the author of the first royal email. Distributed using ARPANET – a forerunner of the internet – from the Royal Signals and Radar Establishment in Malvern, Worcestershire, the message announced the development of a new programming language. It was sent from the Queen’s – rather predictably named – personal email account: HME2.
F is for... FATHER
When Princess Elizabeth was born in 1926, her father was still Prince Albert, Duke of York, but in 1936, life changed dramatically when Albert took the throne as George VI, meaning that Elizabeth was now heir apparent. Elizabeth’s preparation for queenship began almost immediately and father and daughter developed a close bond as he trained his eldest child for her future role as monarch.
G is for... GIFTS
Queen Elizabeth II has received countless gifts throughout her reign – some precious, others... more unusual. Several live animals have been presented to the Queen, including a young Nile crocodile from the People of Berending on the Gambia River and two Aldabra giant tortoises from the Government and People of the Seychelles.
H is for... HATS
The Queen is known for her vibrantly coloured coats with matching headgear, but just how many hats does the royal wardrobe contain? While the exact number is not confirmed, Her Majesty is rumoured to have donned more than 5,000 hats over the duration of her reign.
I is for... INTRUDER
Several intruders have been apprehended in the grounds of royal residences over the years, but none have made it as far as Michael Fagan, who, in 1982, broke into Buckingham Palace and found his way to the Queen’s bedroom. Since trespass was then a civil offence, Fagan was only tried for burglary (having helped himself to half a bottle of wine), and spent several months at a psychiatric hospital.
J is for... JUBILEE
This year, the Queen marks her Platinum Jubilee, becoming the first British monarch to celebrate 70 years on the throne. She will follow in the footsteps of other famous monarchs who have celebrated milestones in their reigns, including Edward III (r1327–77), who is said to have celebrated his Golden Jubilee with a magnificent procession from the Tower of London.
K is for... KENYA
It was during a stay at Treetops Hotel in Nyeri, Kenya, on 6 February 1952, that Princess Elizabeth learned that her father, George VI, had died. She and Prince Philip had been enjoying a short break in the African country during the first leg of a Commonwealth tour, but flew home immediately, landing in London the next day.
L is for... LYNDON B JOHNSON
Fourteen US presidents have come and gone over the past 70 years, but only one failed to meet the Queen face to face. Despite corresponding by letter between March 1964 and July 1967, neither Queen Elizabeth II nor President Lyndon B Johnson issued invitations for the other to visit.
M is for... MOTHERHOOD
Assuming the throne with two small children – Prince Charles (3) and Princess Anne (18 months) – meant juggling monarchy with motherhood from the off, and long periods of time away from family while touring. Two more children (Prince Andrew and Prince Edward) followed in 1960 and 1964 respectively, ensuring the continuity of the Windsor line.
N is for... NICKNAMES
Despite her dignified demeanour, the Queen is said to have a number of nicknames within the royal family, including ‘Gary’ (bestowed by a young Prince William who had confused the word with ‘Granny’). Princess Charlotte is said to use ‘Gan-Gan’, while the late Prince Philip often called his wife ‘Cabbage’ – perhaps from the French term of endearment, mon petit chou (my little cabbage).
O is for... OBEY
When the future Elizabeth II married Philip Mountbatten in 1947, eyebrows were raised over the choice of wedding vows. The word ‘obey’ had been removed from the Church of England service in 1928, two years after women were permitted to own property on the same terms as men, but Princess Elizabeth chose to include the word in her vows, promising to “love, cherish, and to obey” her new husband.
P is for... PRINCE PHILIP
The Queen and Prince Philip enjoyed a 73-year marriage before his death in April 2021. The pair were introduced in 1934, and met again five years later at the Royal Naval College in Dartmouth when Elizabeth was 13 and Philip was 18. It was here, reportedly, that Elizabeth fell in love with her future husband, a man she described on their golden wedding anniversary as being her “strength and stay”.
Q is for... QUALIFICATIONS
Conventional schooling is a fairly recent choice for the British royal family, with Prince Charles the first heir to the throne to have received a formal education and attain a university degree. Both the Queen and her younger sister, Princess Margaret, were home-schooled by a governess, with the young Elizabeth also receiving lessons in constitutional history after she became heir to the throne.
R is for... RADIO BROADCAST
The future Queen made her first public address on 13 October 1940, aged 14. Joined by Princess Margaret, the speech was broadcast at the start of Children’s Hour on the BBC World Service, and was aimed at children who had been evacuated from Britain to America, Canada and elsewhere.
You can listen to the recording via the BBC Archive: bbc.co.uk/archive/childrens-hour--princess-elizabeth/z7wm92p
S is for... SWANS
The Crown has claimed ownership of mute swans (a particular species of swan) since the 12th century, when monarchs liked to tuck into the white waterbird at feasts. A ‘Swan Upping’ ceremony, led by the Queen’s Swan Marker, takes place in the third week of July each year on a particular stretch of the River Thames, and any swans found are checked over – for health reasons, rather than as a potential meal.
T is for... TOURS
During her long reign, Elizabeth II has travelled more than a million miles (1,032,513 to be precise) and visited 117 different countries, despite never owning a passport. In 2015, having flown the equivalent of 42 times around the globe since her accession, the Queen finally hung up her boarding pass and retired from overseas travel, making a trip to Malta her last foreign tour.
U is for... UNCLE EDWARD
At her birth in 1926, baby Elizabeth was third in line to the throne, behind her uncle Edward (later Edward VIII) and her father (later George VI), and seemingly destined to be pushed down the line of succession by the births of brothers and male cousins. But on Edward VIII’s abdication in 1936 her future took a new direction and her path to queenship began.
V is for... VE DAY
In 1985, the Queen confessed in a BBC interview that, on 8 May 1945, she had secretly joined in the public celebrations that had followed the announcement that the war in Europe had ended. Dressed in her Auxiliary Territorial Service uniform ( see next box ), she and Princess Margaret snuck out of the palace and joined the celebrating crowds on London’s streets, all without being recognised.
W is for... WORLD WAR II
Aged 13 when WWII broke out, Princess Elizabeth was evacuated to Windsor Castle with her nine-year-old sister, Princess Margaret. As the conflict progressed, Elizabeth joined in with the war effort, tending her allotments as part of the Dig for Victory campaign and eventually joining the Auxiliary Territorial Service. She is the first female royal to have joined the armed services as a full-time active member.
X is for... X-RAYS
From tea towels to teapots, royal memorabilia is a massive business, but not all collectibles have received the royal seal of approval. In 2011, 18 dental X-rays of Elizabeth II’s teeth, together with those of her mother and father – taken between 1942 and 1946 – were withdrawn from an auction in Gloucestershire. Lawyers for the royal family cited a right of privacy for medical records and the lot was pulled from sale.
Y is for... YACHT
Now a popular visitor attraction and events venue in Edinburgh’s Port of Leith, HMY Britannia served the royal family for 44 years, travelling more than a million nautical miles. But in December 1997, the yacht was deemed too expensive to maintain and run, and the huge vessel was decommissioned. The Queen is said to have shed a tear at the ship’s decommissioning ceremony in Portsmouth.
Z is for... ZAMBIA
The Queen is expected to remain politically neutral, but she has, on occasion, been a target for the decisions of her governments. In 1979, during a visit to Zambia, some Zambians waved banners in protest against the UK government’s plans to recognise the controversial political regime of neighbouring Zimbabwe Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), led by Abel Muzorewa.

so saw some of those scans in the anti mutant post you made, and re the one with emma frost and tony stark (soon to be wedded?) , i know out of universe "story reasons", but in universe why didn't anyone like the avengers step in during genosha / others? do they even attempt to justify their inaction, or do they admit in their failure?
There are different Watsonian explanations for each incident.
In the case of Genosha (which is roughly where the Seychelles are in our world), it happened so fast that no one had time to react - not the X-Men, not Magneto, not Emma, and not the Avengers. Emma's not being particularly fair in that instance, but she's traumatized and isn't much inclined to offer the benefit of the doubt.
The case of the Decimation is a bit more complicated and fraught, because that was instantaneously committed by an Avenger - Wanda Maximoff - after House of M. Since those events followed a debate between Emma Frost and the Avengers over whether Wanda should be euthanized so that a reality warp event like that couldn't happen, Emma has something of a grudge over that one that I'm not sure got entirely resolved by the events of the Trial of Magneto.

I bet. Tell me about it.

► BIOGRAPHY
TW; Religion mention, funeral mention
It was raining when Adrienne was born. Maybe that was the first tell of the path she would be walking. Or, maybe it was the intention of her given name; Adrienne: dark woman or dark waters. There was some odd fascination with the darker things in life. Growing up attending more funerals than weddings, can anyone really blame her on that impact? Though, her nickname was Jynx due to the chaos that would spiral in her presence. For instance, her grandmother's ashes going missing when they were addressed to her apartment, or traveling all the way to California just for a once in a lifetime storm to be passing through and the festival being cancelled, or every color she calls for Roulette being the wrong one and her friend then going into the negatives with funds. Though she was labeled as an outcast and was seen as the black sheep in the family because of this, she still had something about her that drew people in. She had a great group of friends, and her fair share of experimental relationships. In short: she didn't miss anything, but she wouldn't have cared if she did. Her aunt was the one who taught her about spirituality after Adrienne had a paranormal experience at the age of 5. Whilst being in a Catholic household, Adrienne and her aunt would often sneak in order to practice their own eclectic belief. Magic, tarot cards, seances, you name it - Adrienne has dabbled in it. What no one was expecting was for her to make a career move out of it. It started in high school, she helped assist her teacher in their paranormal investigation group. It was through this teacher that she learned about anomalies and the role of the paranormal in anthropology. Her job as an investigator was just the groundwork for her BA in Parapsychology with a minor in Religious Studies at Stockton Univeristy, where she studied the connections of the paranormal and demons with the human psyche. She then went on to gain her MA in Magick and Occult Science with a specialization in Women and Minority Studies where she learned more about the occult across various religions and cultures as well as witchcraft and the impact and power women have within interaction, at Salem State University. At this point in her career, she can be seen as an expert in the occult as well as a demonologist. She actually works alongside various religious institutions, is still a researcher for a paranormal investigation team, and is also hosts a podcast about horror movies, the paranormal and the occult.
► PERSONALITY (DEEP DIVE)
Adrienne is one of those people who can attract and attract and attract, but still feel alone underneath the surface. She can be sarcastic and condescending if someone asks a question she deems as 'stupid'. She's known to bully as her type of flirting. She's actually not online, and prefers it that way. She's clever and witty and goes on passion-dump sprees about her line of work and conspiracies pretty often, or about her research or podcast. She loves people who have a sense of humor and can dish it back out to her. Adrienne used to not like being seen as a Jynx, but now she is sorta indifferent. She just knows something bad or weird is bound to happen when she's around, and it's just within her chaotic state of being. She used to be deathly afraid of the dark, mostly because she didn't know what was in it. It's still a fear, but she works through it due to her career. Adrienne comes across as intimidating and mean cause of her resting bitch face. This is partly true; seeing that she does bring hell to people and her wrath can be intense. But, if you're on her good side you have a very loyal and fun friend in your corner.

Jack, Hercules, and Hermes marrying reader and their honeymoon scenarios?
The pictures belong to their rightful owners.
Jack
-It felt wrong to Jack to marry in a church, he felt like he didn’t deserve to, but you weren’t bothered, opting for a wedding at a botanical garden instead, still beautiful and very unique
-He was nervous, straightening his tie for the fourth time in five minutes, ignoring the teasing grin of Hercules as Jack paced back and forth, worrying if you were going to have second thoughts.
-When he saw you walking down the aisle in a dress that made you look like an angel… Jack.exe stopped working.
-His mind blanked out, only seeing you, seeing your beauty as you smiled up at him as you reached him and he took your hand instantly, pecking the back of it, as if it was your first meeting again.
-The wedding was beautiful but simple, but the party was so much fun, there was so much dancing and fun, Jack could only stare fondly at you, seeing your smiling face.
-The two of you traveled right after the reception to the Swiss Alps, going to spend a week in the beautiful snowy mountains in a private cabin.
-By the time you reached the cabin, you were both half frozen and exhausted.
-Jack started a fire and you cuddled together on the couch under the blanket, agreeing to celebrate tomorrow.
Hermes
-The ceremony was immaculate, flowers everywhere, musicians playing softly in the background, and Hermes at the alter threatening Zeus to not do anything during the ceremony.
-Zeus was offended, “You think I would do something on your wedding day? Hermes I’m hurt!” Hermes looked at Hades who was seated next to Zeus and the eldest brother just chuckled softly, giving Hermes a small nod to keep Zeus in check.
-When you started down the aisle, wearing a gorgeous gown that made you look like a fairy, so ethereal, draped in white with gold appliques, he felt his knees start to shake.
-The ceremony went without any interruptions, which you both were surprised about, but you weren’t complaining.
-The reception was another story, the photos and blackmail that had been collected on the guests would be used for years to come. You had a picture you were quite fond of, Ares hugging Hermes while ugly crying, celebrating the wedding.
-Hermes was exasperated by the end, as Zeus ended up starting a cake fight, once everyone had their slices of cake, but you found it funny, laughing which made Hermes relax.
-Your honeymoon was a secret to everyone but Aphrodite, who had assisted in finding you a private resort in the Seychelles, as her gift for the two of you.
-The resort was stunning, even more beautiful than the beach he proposed to you on, and you both spent the whole time relaxing and getting pampered, among ‘other things’~
Hercules
-A beach wedding was a wonderful idea, Hercules had to make a mental reminder to thank Aphrodite for her advice, as the weather was beautiful, warm but not hot, just perfect.
-Ares couldn’t help but grin at his friend who was wringing his hands together, insisting that he wasn’t nervous.
-He stood when it was time and groaned as the top button of his suit popped again, flying across the room. Ares patted his back comfortingly before they headed out to the beach, both of them barefoot.
-Your dress was so beautiful, it wasn’t white, mostly a pale pink with flowers all over it, you looked so delicate, so beautiful.
-Hercules felt a slight growl rising in his throat, feeling a bit jealous of the other men present who were gawking at you, at your beauty.
-However, you only saw him, smiling up at him as you reached him, letting him take one of your hands in his, he sighed in relief, feeling your hand trembling as well, silently telling him you were nervous as well.
-The reception was beautiful and fun, ending with Thor throwing Loki into the ocean after getting pranked, those photos were quite enjoyable and made for good memories.
-You and Hercules had debated on where to go for your honeymoon, wanting to go somewhere unique but also quiet and relaxing.
-Kojiro was the one to give you the idea of going to a hot springs village in Japan, as they had luxury ryokan, so you could enjoy the snow, hot springs, and the beautiful scenery.
-You spent most of your honeymoon in your room, cuddling and enjoying the break away from home, relaxing to your heart’s content.
