Imagine planning your wedding for you and your f/o. You decide on color schemes together, the invite list, the day, the venue without much disagreements. But, the wedding cake is another story.. The two of you have gone to multiple bakeries, sampled multiple flavors. One of you wants a grand and gigantic one while the other wants a simpler cake. And you both are going back and forth on the flavors. When one day, when you're both feeling frustrated, you go to a new place and look at the cakes. The two of you talk to owner of this small bakery, he's an older man with a gentle smile. The two of you bicker some in front of him, no real malice in your voices, when his eyes twinkle and he suggests the cake have different flavors in the different cake layers. And just like that you both feel quite silly, why hadn't either of you thought of that. By the end of it the two of you have decided on a design and flavors of the cake, and it's absolutely perfect.

!!!WEDDING CAKE DESIGNS!!!
Not gonna outright trigger warning, but please take care when reading this, it delves softly into disturbing and upsetting topics
1.) Flowered Veil
2.) Golden Gal
3.) Purple Haze
4.) I Saw the TV Glow (I haven't actually seen the movie yet, so plz no spolierzzz)
5.) Secret Garden
I never had the phaze as a biokid where I like designed wedding cakes planned my marrigage etc bc i was a black kid in a 98% white area where no one wanted to date let alone marry me lol
so im doin it now! bc im actually gonna get married, eventually lol. i call my Nonnie my hubby already, but like we arent married x3 and dont really super consider ourselves so x3
now i'll TRY and explain the cakes a bit and where my head was at when creating them
1.) This cake is inspired by mine and my nonnie's favorite colours, pink and green. i wanted something cutesy and simple and straightfoward, while still indicating commiment and deterimation to love each other as long as the other deserves such love. The veil, which is decorated with flowers symbolises our growth and how we've both blossomed since being with the other. The way that we both nurture and water the other. The veil is also flowly and river like, a calm river that one might rest beside to regain strength. A river that one might safely wade and swim in, there's no nasty surprises, byt by virtue of it being a river, it demands a sense of respect and awe. It's a river you find after a hard, tiring hike. Which makes sense for our relationship, bc we kissed a lot of toads and dealt with a lot of abuse before finding each other and falling into the love with have with each other. To the other we are a peacefully flowing river at which we can rest and mediate and find ourselves.
2.) this cake is definetly much more elegant that the other cakes, with is sleek black coloration and extravagant gold detailings. For me its a celebration of a culture that I never got to know, its a love for Africa and my African roots. The gold repersents not just the resource, but the RICH history of my people. It's ab how we have value as a people, we are precious. we are not a commodity, but a priceless people, without us the world as we know it would not exist. Not only does is represent that, but also mine and my Hub's native heritage, a heritage that neither of us know very well. But we still celebrate and try and learn ab. The gold also represents one of the Four sisters, Corn. An invaluable part of mine and many indigenous people's history. Not only is this cake the most elegant, it means the most to me as a person. (it can't be seen but there are three blue jewels on the cake as well, I intend for them to be FAKE sapphires. A somewhat bitter reminder of the lives lost to the cruel practices that afford us many of the Luxuries that those STILL in bondage will never get to indulge in) The inside of this cake will likely be red velvet. iykyk
3.) This is just a shameless reference and appreication for not on Jimi Hendrix, but Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Nina Simone, Bessie Smith, Ma Rainey, Billie Holiday, those early WOMEN pioneers of rock music. I have such a huge love for them. And yes, i don actually listen to them with some regularity. I'm not going to go very deep into this cake, bc i'm alrady tearing up, these women, they deserve their flowers. Which is why the purple detailing is flowers.
4.) I haven't actually seen "I Saw the TV Glow" I really want to, but I've heard it has some reality bending moments, and I have SZA and struggle with things of that nature, so I'm trying to make sure I'm stable compeletly before watching. This is a very ambitious cake. I plan to have it be both a projection cake, as well as have the details in green frosting infused with Glow in the Dark Luster dust!
5.) This cake is undeniably gaudy and busy. And I hate and love it in near equal amounts. "The Secret Garden" is a a book that is DEEPLY personal to me in ways that i will not get into fully here, maybe I'll go into detail on another blog. But long story short I know how it feels to have "dead" parents (My father was incarcerated and my mother abandoned/never loved me) and being left to be raised by seemingly cold and uncaring relatives. (I know really do love and appriacte the woman who raised me, she wasn't perfect, but she did what she knew and raised a damn good person) i also know ab having a special and secret place shared with only a cousin. I know this cake looks somewhat ugly, somewhat clumsily made. I wanted it to look that way. To have a sort of clumsy whimsy, a... childishness wonder and impracticability. The vaguly steeple shaped cake tacked on, almost as an afterthought, was very intentional. It's a representation of my tainted innocent. The whole cake has an eerie sense of dream-like innocence, something that never existed for me. I didn't feel safe my entire childhood... i know, that weddings are for joy, and this cake doesn't sound very joyful. But I think weddings can also be a time to mourn, to let go, to open a new chapter. I have been in the process of mourning the girl who never existed, the girl I pretended to be. The girl who was bubbly an bright and happy happy happy. I am letting go of the girl who was so bitterly and violently angry, the girl who lashed out and hurt people, bc she had been so deeply hurt. The sad scared child who would bite and scratch, kick and claw. The girl who screamed her throat hoarse and bloody. I am no longer her, so it's time... its time to let her go. I'm ready... but I'm scared...
WOAH that got WAAAAYYYYYY deeper than i expected lol, but yea, these are the wedding ckaes I designed, which is ur fave??
(I'm also going to be trying to draw up the inside of the cakes + describe the flavors laters ::33)

The Art of Wedding Cakes: Creating the Perfect Confection for Your Special Day
In the intricate tapestry of wedding planning, few elements carry the sweet anticipation and celebratory charm of the wedding cake. More than just a dessert, wedding cakes are a symbol of the couple's journey, a centerpiece that reflects their unique style and taste. In this article, we delve into the world of wedding cakes, exploring the artistry and significance behind these delightful creations and guiding you on how to select the perfect cake for your special day.
The Significance of Wedding Cakes
Wedding cakes have long been a symbol of joy and prosperity, marking the culmination of the couple's love story. The tradition of cutting the cake represents the couple's first task together, a shared experience that symbolizes their commitment to support and nourish each other. In modern weddings, the cake continues to be a focal point, combining taste and aesthetics to create a memorable highlight of the celebration.
Choosing the Perfect Wedding Cake
Selecting the right wedding cake involves more than picking flavors and designs. It’s about creating a piece that resonates with your wedding theme, pleases the palate, and reflects your personality. Here’s how you can ensure you get the perfect confection:
Theme and Design
Your wedding cake should harmonize with the overall theme of your wedding. Whether you prefer a vintage-inspired cake with intricate lace designs or a sleek, modern creation with geometric patterns, wedding cakes can translate your vision into a stunning reality. Work with your baker to incorporate elements that echo your wedding's style, ensuring the cake is a true visual centerpiece.
Flavor Profiles
Beyond its appearance, the taste of your wedding cake is paramount. While classic flavors like vanilla, chocolate, and red velvet remain popular, many couples are exploring unique tastes such as lemon lavender, matcha, or salted caramel. Wedding cakes offer a plethora of flavor combinations and fillings that can satisfy diverse palates. Schedule a tasting session with your baker to discover the perfect blend of flavors that will delight your guests.
Size and Portions
The size of your wedding cake should be tailored to the number of guests. A multi-tiered cake not only makes a grand visual statement but also ensures there’s enough to go around. Whether you’re planning an intimate gathering or a lavish celebration, wedding cakes can be customized to fit your guest list, providing the right amount of deliciousness for everyone.
Personalization
A personalized wedding cake adds a special touch to your celebration. Incorporate elements that reflect your love story, such as your wedding colors, monograms, or even specific motifs that are meaningful to you as a couple. Wedding cakes can be tailored with endless customization options, from the type of icing to detailed decorations that make your cake a unique piece of art.
Current Trends in Wedding Cakes
Wedding cakes evolve with trends, continually offering fresh ideas to inspire couples. Here are some of the latest trends in wedding cakes:
Naked Cakes
Naked cakes, with their minimalist aesthetic and rustic appeal, are gaining popularity. These cakes feature minimal frosting, highlighting the layers and fillings inside, often adorned with fresh fruits and flowers. Wedding cakes can perfect this trend, balancing simplicity with elegance.
Metallic Touches
Metallic accents in gold, silver, or rose gold add a touch of luxury and sophistication to wedding cakes. Whether through edible foil, paint, or shimmering decorations, these touches can elevate the overall look of your cake, making it a dazzling centerpiece.
Floral Decorations
Flowers, both real and sugar-crafted, remain a favorite for wedding cake decoration. They bring color, texture, and a romantic flair to the cake. Wedding cakes can seamlessly incorporate floral elements, ensuring they complement your wedding’s floral arrangements.
Geometric Patterns
For a contemporary twist, geometric patterns like hexagons and chevrons are becoming popular. These designs offer a chic and modern look. Wedding cakes can execute these intricate patterns with precision, making your cake a standout piece.
Tips for a Flawless Wedding Cake Experience
To ensure your wedding cake is everything you’ve dreamed of, consider these tips:
Book Early
Renowned bakers often have busy schedules, especially during peak wedding seasons. Booking your baker early ensures you have ample time to plan and perfect your cake.
Clear Communication
Communicate your ideas, inspirations, and any dietary requirements clearly with your baker. Wedding cakes can accommodate various needs, including gluten-free or vegan options.
Consider the Venue
Choose a cake that suits your venue and climate. For outdoor weddings in warm climates, select a cake that can withstand higher temperatures. Discuss these considerations with your baker to ensure your cake remains perfect throughout the event.
Plan the Display
The way your cake is displayed can enhance its visual impact. Coordinate with your wedding planner to place the cake in a prominent location with appropriate lighting and decoration.
Conclusion
Wedding cakes are more than just a sweet treat; they are a symbol of love, creativity, and celebration. By choosing wedding cakes, you ensure that this centerpiece is as memorable as the vows you exchange. From selecting the ideal flavor to designing a cake that wows your guests, the right wedding cake can add a touch of magic to your special day. Embrace the journey of crafting a cake that is uniquely yours and savor every moment of your wedding celebration.

A few months ago I casually said that the @gallacrafts Cinnamon Stargazer Lilies must be in my Top 10 Most Ridiculous Bakes I’ve ever done, which led to @tsuga-of-mars asking what else is on that list… oooooh, dangerous request my dude! hahahaha
It’s taken a while because I had to get together the photographs and make decision (wow am I bad at making decisions!!! haha) but here you are…
My Top 10 Most Ridiculous/Favourite Bakes
So when I first started baking in like… 2010? I figured that if I bake cake batter directly in the mixing bowl I could make ball cakes… so that led to some exciting ball shaped fun. This was also at the same time as I realised that if you bring people ridiculously over the top cakes for their birthday, it makes them really happy… who knew?
Ball cakes led on to foot and a half tall cakes consisting of stacked round cakes, ball cakes, and half ball cakes. For that is how you assemble a droid…. This is all very early in my cake making journey, before I’d really learnt about how important it is to fully cool cakes before stacking and decorating them. y’know, that stuff that keeps them from melting and sliding lol
And then for a minute I got really into chocolate, and clearly developed a dislike for crockery, deciding to make chocolate doilies and chocolate bowls, to serve my chocolate mousse in and on. Fuck plates! LOL This was also when I made Ruth the most indulgent chocolate cake covered in all manners of chocolate decorations, including spelling her name in chocolate lol
And then our friends got married and asked me whether I would make their wedding cake, because they loved my baking. Hell, yeah! Both their sets of parents are quite traditional, so while they did come to the wedding and the party afterwards, they said from the start they would only stick around for about an hour. So I thought it would be fun to have a traditional looking three tier wedding cake, for when the parents were at the party. And then when they left and it got cut, each tier turned out to be rainbow coloured! Oh, and the cake toppers are the brides made out of FIMO, in their wedding outfits, which I sourced for them, so I had the inside knowledge on that. Those little FIMO ladies have lived on their mantel piece for 11 years, which is how long they’ve been married <3
Most of my cakes have been inspired by Ruth’s birthday, and wanting to create something new and exciting every year! Ruth loves Afternoon Tea, and I thought it would be fun to create a traditional tea… entirely out of cake! Think this was the first time where the baking started with a full page of notes beforehand. Always a good sign… lol those cucumber sandwiches are cake, by the way. The clotted cream, jam, and sugar bowl, lid, and spoon are made of icing. The jam cookies… are just cookies haha
Then for about a minute and a half I got into mirror glaze. I watched too many YouTube video and thought it looked really cool. However I veeery quickly got over it due to a) it not actually being very difficult at all, so the challenge went out of it pretty quick, and b) how insanely wasteful it is. Not a big fan. What I was a big fan of was that 30th birthday surprise I did for my work colleague. Got into work at 6am to set it all up. Those balloons are sewn to her chair, by the way. And I’m pretty sure she still found confetti in her desk phone and drawers a week later hahaha
And then the farm tradition of Sorry You’re Leaving cakes started, two of which will be on every Top Mys Baking list, always. I learned how to make sugar glass so we could have a greenhouse in the middle of the vegetable beds with a cat on it, a sugar glass pond with ducks, and a sugar glass “stone” path. I free hand made a goat out of icing (with sugar glass horns) and an alpaca, a pig in mud, some bees to go on some flowers, a ton of vegetables, a growing frame… there was a LOT of stuff on this cake, and it was all awesome!
And then a year later another dear friend left the farm and I wasn’t sure how to top the previous cake… But hey! What’s better than one cake? Yes! TWO cakes lol So we have the large animal yard on one cake and the duck pond with its double fenced vegetation boarder on the other cake. This time a lot of work went into finding shop bought candy that would have the right look and texture, such as waver biscuits for animal stables, Daim bars for bark planks (for goat mountain), mikado for pond fences, twirls for wooden sleepers for raised beds, fudge for brick walls and so on, and so forth. I also free hand made cats, ducks, a turkey, goats, and marshmallow sheep FROM HELL!!! Sorry, those didn’t come out right… hahaha
In 2017 I was diagnosed with MS, like four days before my birthday party. And I didn’t really want to celebrate, I didn’t want to spend an entire day having to tell people about my diagnosis and answering questions about MS and listening to platitudes. And then Ruth asked me if there was anything I would like? We were both massively into All the Other Ghosts at the time (a Glee AU and one of the best stories I’ve ever read) and I said that what I wanted as a AtoG party and to not tell anyone about my diagnosis until after. So that’s what happened. And it was amazing! Which then started the annual tradition of over the top themed birthday parties I threw for myself and all my friends. We had a Shadowhunters one. We had a BBC Merlin one. However the Dragon one is still one of my favourites, as it was the first time I managed to make even the sandwiches themed!!! Hahaha Also those brownies are well up there with the best stuff I’ve ever come up with. Look how cute they are!!!! And my darling friend Sonja couldn’t make it to the party, but send me the Toothless cardboard pop up in her absence <3
And then, as I think many of you know, I got really into cookie decorating and sending decorated parcels of cookies to my friends and family during the pandemic. And that has definitely continued. Every birthday now has decorated cookies. I sent a huge bunch to my friend when she got engaged. I sent a box to my niece in Switzerland for her birthday. @f-f-podcast sent cookies out to our patrons for Christmas last year. Below is just a small selection of a truly insane number of cookies I have iced over the years!!
Wow. If you made it all the way to the bottom of this post… congrats! Hope you enjoyed the baking madness. If you’ve not had enough yet you can see more by hitting the ‘Mys in the Kitchen’ tag. Enjoy!
