Fighting Chance

INVOLVED: Mia Carter, Tyler Carter, and Asia Adams TIME FRAME: Thursday, March 5th, 2020 LOCATION: University of Houston; Houston, Texas SUMMARY: Asia confronts Mia, Mia lashes out, and it almost cost Tyler his marriage.

Asia walked across the campus, holding onto the strap of her backpack with one hand, a few of her books in the other as she moved swiftly through the crowded courtyard. She had been pissed for weeks now, ever since she had found out on Instagram that not only had Tyler knocked Mia up, but he married her too. How sway? When he knocked her up all she got was a trip to the clinic. It was utter bullshit and she had been fuming since. She knew other girls had been pregnant by Tyler too and had suffered the same fate as her, so why in the hell was Mia so special?

Mia moved through the courtyard typing away on her phone, them getting married and announcing their pregnancy via social media had only caused a huge storm since arriving back to the states. Her mother was on edge about her being pregnant and not telling her right away, and her mother was also on edge because she was now a very married woman. Not to mention they had upset her mother-in-law as well with their little stunt. Mia texted her mother back quickly about what their doctor’s appointment entailed and then she slid it into her pocket, moving about her business. She slid the phone in her Gucci sweatpants before she shifted the new Gucci backpack she had gotten across seas onto her shoulder. Shuffling on her Gucci sneakers she bypassed a few people as she headed to her next class, she had so much to catch up on personally.

Silently fuming to herself, Asia moved about the courtyard, trying to get to her next class when she spotted Mia, wearing Gucci from head to toe. “What the fuck,” she mumbled to herself as she found herself making a beeline for the woman. She was literally living her life, she had Tyler first, before any of these other hoes on campus. “Mia,” she said as she approached the girl, eyeing her up and down slowly. “Can I talk to you?” she asked her, sucking her teeth as she blocked Mia’s path.

Mia adjusted the white Gucci shirt against her, and she combed her hand through her freshly washed and blown out hair. She sported a middle park and she wore it down, letting it cascade past her butt as she moved. As the other woman approached her, she stopped in her tracks, the girl blocking her path. She couldn’t believe the nerve of the bitch that stayed under her husband’s comments, stayed in some shit, and was the very whore he used to fuck was standing before her asking her for her damn time. She looked at the girl up and down her hands in her pockets as she stood there, she didn’t say anything because honestly in her mind, the bitch couldn’t be serious.

Asia looked Mia up and down as she stood taller than her by quite a bit, even in her sneakers. She popped her lips as Mia didn’t respond to her and she wrapped her hand around the girl’s forearm, pulling her off to the side, into the grass and out of the main walkway. “You need to know the truth about this nigga you call yourself being married to,” Asia said with a roll of her eyes as she eyed the rock Mia sported. Her jaw locked slightly and brown skin tinted red at the sight of it.

Mia continued to stare at the woman quietly as she shifted her weight on her feet tilting her head to the side. As she grabbed her forearm and pulled her over into the grass, Mia looked down at her arm and the girl’s hands. As she then went on to explain that she needed to tell Mia about who Tyler really was she looked back up at her and she raised a brow. However, despite her silence Mia rolled her shoulders and she pulled her backpack down and rested it against the grass beneath her feet before she stuck her hands back into her sweats.

Asia blinked slowly, trying to calm herself down as she looked at Mia, watching as the girl took off her backpack. Eying her, Asia did the same as well, setting her books down as well, she knew what Mia was gearing up to do and she had another thing coming. “You not the only one that’s been knocked up by that trifilin’ ass nigga,” she began, rolling her neck slightly. “Freshman year and last year, that nigga made me get abortions,” she said sucking her teeth. “Not just me though, other bitches too,” she huffed. “Rumor has it that one girl got his baby on campus, but she never told him,” she said to Mia.

As Asia continued to speak, Mia looked down as the girl sat her backpack and books down. Hm, she looked back up at her as her fist balled up within her sweatpants. Wow this bitch was really pathetic and in her honest opinion Tyler and Aaron both should have put her little ugly ass in her place weeks back, but niggas weren’t shit. This she knew, even her own husband, clearly. As she told her everything, she already had a twinge of expectation for her, she smirked at her. “Fuck are you telling me this for?” she said finally speaking up.

“Cause you really think, this nigga ain’t out here still making bitches get abortions?” Asia asked Mia, her jaw tight as she shifted on her feet. Was Mia really do down for this nigga that she just didn’t care? “Me, Riley, Shauna, Bree,” she listed off, neck rolling as she did. “And you married this bum-ass nigga?” she asked Mia, huffing.

As the girl went on to reply, insulting her, insulting him, calling out the names of women which one in particular stood out a lot for her considering the bitch was her friend. Mia tried to ignore the anger bubbling to the surface at the mention of Riley. Wow. Mia swayed on her feet she wanted to put her hands on the girl, but she wouldn’t she needed to walk away. Yes, that was right. Walk away before she murdered the stank ass bitch, she’d been waiting to run into her leading up to this day anyway. Mia reached for her backpack and smirked “he didn’t want you bitch, get over it” she said with a sly chuckle. “You not cute, you bald headed, he likes my ass, my titties, my pussy. That ain’t my fault” she shrugged. “Close your legs and maybe you could get you a ring” she said “it just won’t be from my baby daddy” she told her as she backed up slowly eyeing her up and down again.

Asia watched Mia closely, eyeing the girl up and down once more as she picked up her things and began to walk away from her. She smacked her lips, flipping her braids over her shoulder. “Dumb bitch,” she said shaking her head as she moved to grab her things from the grass.

Mia told herself she wasn’t worth it however, when the girl called her out of her name a nerve was struck. She dropped her bag again and Mia teleported from her spot to the next shoving Asia down in the grass “I am about sick of your dumb ass” she barked as tugged the girl’s head to the side by her braids and she punched her in her mouth the bigger girl straddled her using her weight to her advantage. She’d watched Nova bully people enough to pick up a few things in her day.

Asia picked up her backpack before Mia shoved her to the ground and she gasped, shocked trying to scramble to her feet but she wasn’t quick enough before Mia was sitting on top of her, weighing her down. “Fuck!” she yelled as Mia punched her. She placed her hands on Mia’s thighs, trying to knock the girl off of her to no use and she looked at her stomach, thinking about punching her there, but deciding against it. “Get off me, you big bitch!”

Mia gripped the girl’s hair tighter and she punched her again even as she scrambled to find a way to get her off of her. “Fucking slut” she spat out in the midst of her anger and she cupped her head with both hands banging it against the grass covered ground. “Keep my name and his name out of your mouth” she ordered as she shifted getting up off of her on her own accord. Never mind the few people that were pooling in their direction.

Grunting and groaning, Asia huffed as Mia punched her and slammed her head into the grass. “Shit!” she grunted out, still trying to push Mia off of her and she pressed her hands into Mia’s stomach, trying to get the girl off. When Mia finally relented standing up, Asia laid there, eyes closed as her head spun.

Tyler was standing in the cafeteria when he got word of Mia fighting in the courtyard. He dropped his tray immediately, running full speed out of the cafeteria, his backpack jingling on his back as he sprinted towards the fight. Pushing through the crowd of people, Tyler got there as Mia was getting off of Asia and he looked at Asia lying there before he approached Mia, “are you okay? What happened?” she asked her shocked.

Mia looked down at the girl, she relented from kicking the fuck out of the dumb girl in her wake. “Bitch ass” she muttered as she rolled her eyes leaning down tiredly to get her backpack up off the ground and she slung it on before Tyler approached her. She looked up slowly eyeing him and she said “I’m fine” she moved around him sticking her hands in her pockets as she moved to walk away pushing passed the crowd slowly.

Tyler looked Mia over, looking for any sign of a bruise or scarring. As she told him, she was fine, Tyler tried to reach for her, but she pushed past him. He followed behind her, not giving a damn about Asia lying in the grass. “Mia, what happened?” he asked her, walking behind her, a few steps to the right. “Are you sure you’re okay?” he asked her, “the baby?” he questioned, still just right behind her.

Mia headed for the direction of the lecture hall her class was being held in, it was so like Tyler not to tell her everything about him. And allow some random bitch to do so, exposing all his dirty secrets in public settings and making her look like an idiot. As he asked her a few more questions she continued to walk steadily, her pace the same as it was when she left the girl on the grass. She licked her lips slowly as her fingers toyed with her wedding ring and bands within her pocket.

“Mia!” Tyler finally barked grabbing her arm and pulling her to his chest. He looked down at her, taking in the anger in her eyes and he asked her once more, his tone softer now. “What. Happened?” He needed to know what the girl had done or said to cause Mia to come out of character in such a way.

Mia heard Tyler and she looked at him as he grabbed her arm pulling her closer. She looked up at him as he asked her again and she took the time to set his ass straight. “First off” she said starting “DON'T grab me and pull me in any fucking direction in front of all of these fucking people. You will respect me!” She commanded. “I am your wife, and you will not handle me like I am some random bitch on the street. You got me?” She asked speaking to him harshly through her teeth. Once she got that out of the way she told him “I have a class to get to right now and you nor your side bitches are going to stop me. From getting my bag. And securing a degree for me and my baby” she told him. “She enlightened me on all your little side bitches their pregnancies and abortions and so forth” she said gazing at him. “You are just-“ she gritted her teeth, balling her fist. “My parents… have never been so right. God. You amuse me” she told him as she walked away. “Dumb enough to marry your ass and get pregnant. Wow Mia” she said aloud.

Tyler gazed at Mia as he gripped her arm, holding her close. As she spewed off, telling him about himself for grabbing her the way that he had, he rolled his jaw. His hand still gripping her arm. He let out a harsh breath through his nose, finally dropping his hand from her arm. “Mia,” he grumbled through clenched teeth. “I asked you a question and you fucking ignoring me, Mia,” he grunted out, his strong chest heaving with irritation. As Mia revealed what Asia had told her, Tyler smacked his lips, rubbing his hand down his face. “What?” He asked her. “I told you, you the only one that’s going to have my baby,” said to her now rubbing the back of his neck. “I’m just what?” He asked her now, his eyes narrowing at her. At the mention of her parents, Tyler felt a pang in his chest, and he looked away from Mia before he nodded. “Bet,” he told her as his jaw clenched and he backed away from her. “All that, is old shit,” he said pointing in Asia’s direction,” as he sucked his teeth, “but it’s cool, I’m a fuck nigga,” he said throwing his hands up. “I can show you better than I can tell you Mia,” he huffed as he pointed in her face before he brushed past her.

She waited patiently for him to get some common sense about himself and let her arm go. As he went on to talk to her, pissed off on all accords as if she’d done something wrong her eyebrows rose to her hairline instantly. As he went to repeat the same bullshit, he had weeks back she just looked at his disgustingly, he was never going to outright admit the truth. So, no he wasn’t a man like he proclaimed he was a damn child. As he went on repeating her and saying bet, as if he had something for her down the line Mia let her bookbag slid to the ground again. At this point she was sick, and she was tired. She was so open with him, so honest, she told him everything in her mind he was her best friend and her confidant. What was she to him? “Rather old or knew I had the right to know!” She barked back at him bitterly. “You are a fuck boy” she agreed nodding her head “because you to pussy to tell people the fucking truth. You fucked my friend Tyler and you have the nerve to stand before me like I’m doing something wrong. While bitches like her are walking up to me, grabbing me just like you fucking do” she added “and telling me all types of crazy shit” she spat back. “Show me?” She repeated, as he tried to breeze past her and Mia grabbed him, yanking him back, “show me?” She said aggressively as she shoved his strong ass. “What the fuck you gone show me huh?” She asked him, standing toe to toe. “Show me right now” she commanded, he’d gone and unleashed a side of her he hadn’t seen yet. Yeah, she confronted him, cursed him out before, cried and everything else but this raging bull full of hormones was anticipating whooping his ass at the moment. She was done talking.

Tyler looked at Mia as she grabbed his arm, pulling him back to her and he looked down at her, his eyes wide and his chest heaving. “Mia… chill,” he told her, licking his lips slowly. He didn't understand her need to want to be hurt. He didn’t tell her about old shit to protect her and when she found out the truth, she was all in her feelings. As he knew she would be. Was he wrong?! It was old shit for a reason hell. She was his one and only now. As she egged him on and pushed him, Tyler grunted. “Mia!” He barked. “Chill the fuck out,” he growled. “I’m not about to do this shit with you man…” he grunted at her, breaking away again. “You need to chill, and we can talk about it later,” he told her, trying to diffuse the situation now as he noticed all the cameras pointed at them.

Mia sized the man up “nawl talk your fucking shit” she commanded of him again. “Fuck ass” she barked as she looked him up and down as he broke away from her. “Won’t be a later” she told him snatching her backpack up. “You can miss me fuck nigga” she said as she placed her backpack on her shoulder. “Ain’t never seen a bigger pussy in my life” she breathed as she walked towards her class. “You gone show me huh? Nah I’ma show you” she told him.

Tyler turned around quickly, his forehead pressed to Mia’s, his hands on her arms, holding her steady. He gazed into her eyes, his own burning. “Won’t be a later?” He questioned her, a deep rumble coming from the back of his throat. “Mia…” he let out low from his gut. He licked his lips slowly before he pulled away, letting her go. Oh, he was pissed, but god he loved her, and he would never hurt her. He threw his hands into the air as he stormed off now. He shoved and pushed people out of his way as he did.

Mia gazed at him with fiery eyes as he reproached her only to press her more. As he pulled away again, she moved in the opposite direction, now she was late for class and she was annoyed about that too. Mia scurried past a few people even taking it so far as to smack someone’s phone out of their hands as she brushed past people forcefully, now her business would be out there for the World to see. She would be a force to reckon with later and Tyler had no clue just how nasty she was about to get.

Tyler stood in the kitchen, leaning against the counter, eating a bowl of microwave pasta. He had cooled down tremendously since his spat with Mia earlier and was now his usual cool, calm, and collected self as he watched cartoons from his phone, set up in the counter.

Mia moved down the hallway, she asked her mother to make room for her and surprisedly her mother had without even questioning her why. Mia licked her lips as she moved to unlock the front door, she stepped inside locking it back and she moved for their bedroom. Texting her mother back again, she could see his silhouette in her peripheral, but she ignored him, she had nothing to say to him. And again, she was past talking, Mia wasn't a fighter, she didn’t argue, and she didn’t come out of character. That just wasn’t her. However, she noticed when it came to him, that seemed to be all she did, and she hated it. She wasn’t going to do it anymore. She dropped her backpack down on the floor before she entered their room and she located her suitcase placing it on the bed.

Tyler ate his pasta hungrily before Mia came into the penthouse. He watched her, as she text away on her phone, making her way up to the stairs. He quickly finished his pasta, leaving the bowl there with his phone as he moved up the stairs. As he entered the room, he saw Mia with her suitcase and his entire face dropped. “Mia…” he said softly as he moved to stand behind her, gently placing his hands on her shoulders. “Mia… don’t leave me…”

Mia went to their drawers and she pulled some clothing out resting it in her suitcase. When she heard heavy footsteps coming towards her she didn’t stop her task. She grabbed her clothes placing them in the bag, he approached her from behind. Begging her not to leave him and it made her heart sink; there was love, confusion, and fright laced in there and she felt bad but only for a moment. She pulled away from his grasp, standing her ground for the very first time in her life, she hated that it had to be with him. She pulled more stuff out the drawers and she placed them into her bag before her phone buzzed and she picked it up answering the call. “I’ll just be a couple minutes; I am going to grab a few things so that I can go back and forth to school” she told Nova as she rested her hand on her full hip. “I know…” she breathed with a sigh “it’s not that simple or that easy” she told her friend who had been trying to convince her to stay with the man all day. “I need you on my side” she said under her breath as she grabbed undergarments. “Let me call you back” she told the girl, who she had no intentions of calling back as she sat her phone down.

Tyler frowned as Mia pulled away from him and continued to gather her things. He was silent as he sat down on the bed beside her suitcase, watching her with tears in his eyes. “Mia I’m sorry,” he said with a sniffle, a tear rolling down his cheek and he wiped it quickly. “I’ve never been with a real woman before and … and I’m trying…” he said in a soft tone, dropping his head low. “I… you… Mia please…” he said as another tear fell and hit his lap. He was never good with words or handling his raw emotions, especially the sad, broken hearted ones.

As he spoke, she packed, she grabbed enough undergarments in her opinion to last her before she moved to bend down, opening the last drawer in the dresser. She picked up some night clothes and placed them in the bag as she finally stopped and looked at him. Aw, the poor baby he was hurting yet she was the one made the fool in all of this. How sad. She folded a few things neater before she placed her hands on the bed leaning over it “you think that’s enough?” she asked him seriously. “A sorry ass apology and I sit here to endure your bullshit for the rest of my life and my baby's life?” she asked him. Mia rolled her eyes at him as she stood upright exhaling slowly as she moved for their closet, coincidentally she grabbed nothing he bought her, in this moment she wanted nothing from him, including his hand in marriage. She shrugged her shoulders “there is no reason to stay, you are who you are. A drug dealer, womanizer, liar” she listed off shrugging each time “you’ve shown me your true colors I don’t need more” she chuckled to herself. “You don’t respect me…. You don't respect our union or even our child at this point of time. People should know the truth about their partners, so that they aren’t bombarded with anything that can harm the relationship you dumb motherfucker” she spat bitterly as she gazed at him through the mirror. She wasn’t upset about the women and their antics; she was upset that he was withholding facts about him that other people knew and used to tear them down publicly.

Sitting there, head hung low, Tyler sniffled hard, letting his tears fall, his shoulders slumped. “I’m sorry Mia…” he whispered once more even as she fussed at him. He looked up at her slowly, looking at her as she stood there, speaking to him. When she moved to the closet, Tyler began to take Mia’s things out of the bag and place them back in their respective drawers as he cried. As she returned going on, Tyler sat down once more, biting his lip hard. “I do,” Tyler pleaded. “I respect everything about you,” he breathed out. “I am trying to be a better person,” he admitted, “but… I… I mess up sometimes,” he breathed out sadly, sniffling once more, his cheeks wet with tears, his eyes red as Mia looked at him through the mirror.

She didn’t want to hear his I’m sorry’s they only went through one ear and out the other. He had taken things out of her suitcase and put them back where they belonged which ignited her as well. “No, you don’t” she barked angrily as she snatched her things back out of the drawers and placed them into the suitcase. “I don’t even know you; I don’t understand why I was stupid enough to marry you” she said. “To accept your proposal, thinking I had won,” Mia said, shaking her head to herself. “Those fucking groupie bitches can have you, I’m done. I’m not doing this. And with a whole baby?” she asked as she shoved him, she could kick his ass. “You managed to just get that bitch pregnant not too long ago, twice” she yelled gazing at him. “You don’t think I don’t see her on your social media Tyler?” she asked. “Why does that bitch even still have access to you?” she asked him seriously. “I could beat your fucking ass right now; you make me sick….” she told him towering over him in his seated position.

Dropping his head once more, Tyler listened to her as she chewed him out and told him that she was a fool to be with him. That really hurt his heart and fresh tears pooled in his eyes as his chest tightened. As she shoved him, his head stayed low and he rocked slightly on the bed from the push. She screamed and yelled and more of his tears spilled over. As she stood before him, he wrapped his arms around her, pressing a kiss to her stomach before he looked up at her, blinking slow as several more tears fell. He gazed at her towering over him before he dropped his head once more in shame.

Mia looked at him as he continued to cry, she would’ve been moved by this days ago but right now she wasn’t feeling it. She was tired of Asia, she just wanted to bask in him and their child and as always something and someone tied to him ruined happy moments and good times. She pushed him away from her as he kissed her stomach delicately and hugged her close. Forcefully shoving her luggage, she watched it fly to the floor and the contents spill out before she sat down on the bed, she couldn’t leave him. She’d forsaken people for him, turned her back on her family and cornered herself into a marriage and motherhood. Fuck men. Someway somehow, they always came up on top while women were left with their defeat and disgust.

Tyler flinched as Mia jerked away from him and he thought her suitcase had slid off the bed in the process. He hadn’t noticed that she had shoved it. Seeing all of her things on the floor, Tyler swallowed his pride and slid to his knees as he began to place her things back into the suitcase for her, not looking at her as she sat on the bed.

Mia looked at Tyler as he moved onto his knees picking her things up off the floor and placing them back into her bag. She watched him; he was so damn dumb she couldn’t leave his ass now. Even he had to know that shit. Mia shook her head at him, Riley, she and Nova treated that girl as a damn sister and the whole time he and she knew what they had done and hadn’t told anyone. She licked her lips slowly and looked away from him as she toyed with her wedding ring and bands.

Tyler placed all of the items back into the bag for Mia before he picked up her suitcase and sat it on the bed for her. He plopped down on the bed now, his head still low as he asked her. “Are you going to be at your parents?” he asked her quietly, sniffling a little; at the least he had to know where she was going.

As he finished and sat her bag aside, he sat down next to her and posed a question that she had no choice but to answer. Though just a pea sized bundle of both him and her, Mia found her hand resting against her stomach protectively now. She needs to calm down. She'd been on 100 all day and it wasn’t good for the baby, this she knew. “I’m not going anywhere” she said harshly as she continued to sit there, calming herself down and staring at the wall before her.

“You're not?” Tyler asked Mia quietly, looking at her as he continued to sniffle and attempt to suck up his tears.

“No, I’m stuck with you” Mia said with a bitter resolve to the issue at hand right now, she licked her lips slowly and shifted her hand still resting on her stomach.

Tyler dropped his head at her response, she was glad that she was staying but he didn’t want her to feel like she had to. “I… don’t want for you to feel like you have to stay…” he told her sadly. “I would always take care of you and our baby rather you’re with me or not,” he said, dropping his head even lower.

Mia removed her hand from her stomach sighting on the bed, she was so disappointed in him, in herself. “I said I’m not going, don’t keep talking about it” she commanded shutting him up.

Tyler clamped his lips shut at Mia’s words, he rubbed the back of his neck before he sniffled hard, wiping away some of his tears now, even as they continued to fall. He leaned over, wrapping Mia up in his arms, holding her close as he dropped his head to her shoulder, his own shaking from emotion.

Mia continued to rest with each passing moment calming her more and more with time. As he leaned in over towards her, wrapping her up again she sat there for a very long time unmoving. Before she moved and placed her hand on his lower back, she wanted to hate him, but she didn’t. She was just tired, upset, and disappointed.

Tyler just rested there, holding Mia close for as long as she would allow. He slowly lifted his head as she placed her hand on his back. He gazed at her, his eyes bloodshot red as he said, “teach me how to be the man you need me to be.”

At his words Mia looked at him, she didn’t have anything to say to that. “It doesn’t matter she's going to continue to do what she wants and she’s going to win every time… whatever” Mia said defeatedly. She guessed she’d just play Tyler’s fool, for the rest of her life, she was already too far invested.

“I’ll handle her,” Tyler said gently, sniffling softly. “I’ll handle all of them,” he told her. “They won’t be a problem anymore,” he told her, and he meant it. He didn’t want to lose Mia over a hoe running her mouth about stupid, old things just to get a rise.

At this threat she took it with a grain of salt, she didn’t believe him at all not one bit. She knew women, and she had given her too much power from the start. Mia would be toyed and played with until they all graduated and parted, and hopefully it didn’t move past that point of time. She shrugged lightly at him; Nova begged her to stay with him and had given her the same idle threats, that she would take care of Riley. But none of that mattered Mia already had the egg on her face now.

Tyler dropped his head to Mia’s shoulder once more and sighed out deeply. He loved her so much, from the bottom of his heart he did. He had to start telling her the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

“Do you know that I love you? And that I would do anything for you?” Mia asked him. “Why leave me in the dark?” She asked him. “What else don’t I know Tyler? Who is the girl they say has your child? Since you claim it’s so impossible!” She growled out.

Looking at Mia as she asked her questions, Tyler bit his lips softly. “I know,” he muttered. “I do,” he said next, blinking slow. He dropped his head once more. As she asked about a girl having his baby, he lifted his head, his eyebrows furrowing. “Who?” he questioned her, his neck jerking slightly. “Nobody has my baby but you and that's on God,” he told her truthfully. To his knowledge, no other woman had his baby. He had made sure of that.

“That’s not what I hear,” Mia said to him in response. “You better figure it out and make sure this girl isn’t parading around with your child” she commanded of him. “Tyler so help me God if you don’t handle that and Asia. I won’t stay. This marriage will be a thing of the past. Do you hear me?” She asked him seriously as she gazed into his eyes. “I want it handled and you only have this week to do it” she breathed.

“I’ll tell you the truth,” Tyler said honestly. He flinched as she raised her voice again and threatened him. “I’ll tell you the truth,” he told her once more. Nodding slowly, he said, “As soon as I know you’ll know,” he told her. He thought it over, speaking out loud as he shook his head, “you know about my job,” he said using air-quotes, “you know about the previous abortions,” he said dropping his head now, “you know about all the girls,” he said licking his lips. “That’s it,” he told her truthfully as he looked up at her.

As he cycled through it all, she watched him, yet again hoping he was telling the truth. When he was done, she looked at him for a moment before she looked away nodding her head. “Keep your hands off me too” Mia added as she cut her eyes at him. “The next time you do it, I won’t hesitate to send someone to fuck you up” she said thinking of all her crazy ass Haitian cousins as she did.

Tyler looked at Mia as she spoke once more, and he nodded slowly. “I’m so sorry Mia,” he told her gently, leaning down to kiss her arm where he grabbed her. “Never again,” he told her softly.

Mia watched him as he kissed her arm and she said nothing before she concluded with. “I want you in the other room until you handle your business” she said, it was the last little wish in all of this because she definitely wanted her space after having to come out of character thanks to Asia out of all people.

“Baby,” Tyler said, pouting now. “The guest room?” he asked her softly, rubbing his hand up and down her back now. “I can’t get up with you and hold your hair and rub your back if I’m in the other room,” he said trying to state his case.

Mia looked to him as he tried to use their baby as a pun in his game. Though yes, her morning sickness was bad, and she didn’t often get sick until late at night but it was worth risking it. To teach him a lesson and to prove a point with him. So, she gave him a knowing look that read it wasn’t up for discussion with her, because it wasn’t.

Tyler looked at her expression and he dropped his head once more as he nodded. “Guest room is it,” he mumbled sadly before he lifted his head and asked her, his lip still stuck out in a pout. “Can I have just one kiss?”

As he answered his own question, she looked away from him, yep, he was in the doghouse. And dogs got no love from her. As he asked for a kiss, she obliged and nodded her head looking at him “one” Mia said sternly though she was only kidding behind her hardened face. She had to keep up her act, she had come this far.

Tyler smiled softly as she obliged him and he kissed her lips tenderly, savoring the feeling and the taste of her, since he only got one. He rubbed his fingers through her hair as he devoured her mouth slowly. After a minute, he pulled away, and let out a breath. “I really do love you Mia.”

As he kissed her, she closed her eyes tenderly, it was a feeling she’d always cherish from the very first time they’d done it. As he pulled away, she looked at him, looking down at his words. “Show me, make me believe that” Mia breathed as she looked at him again before she moved to stand to her feet, walking away from their bed and out of their room. She had schoolwork to do and that was what was important to her right now.

Tyler gazed at Mia at her words and he nodded slowly. “I will,” he whispered before she stood up and walked out and Tyler sighed out before he grabbed his phone and text Nova.

The Mexican Madonna

Another star gone too soon. In the prime of her career, one woman paved the way for all future women of the Tejano music scene. She single handedly broke down multiple barriers of racial discrimination on her quest to leave a legacy. Texas born Selena Quintanilla was the youngest of three children born to Marcella and Abraham Quintanilla. Her father was a singer/song writer himself, performing with his band Los Dinos throughout much of the 1960s. His keen ear and musical background helped him to realize his daughter’s talents. At only six years old, Selena had the perfect timing and her pitch was impeccable. This inspired Quintanilla to make the decision to have the family start a band, with Selena center stage. They called their band Selena y los Dinos after Abraham’s former group. They would perform at fairs, festivals, and the family restaurant Papa Gayo’s, until they unfortunately had to close the establishment in 1981, due to major recession. The family was bankrupt. Abraham made the conscious decision to remove Selena from her school in Corpus Christi to go on tour. The band, managed by their father, saw older brother A.B on Bass and older sister Suzette on the drums. [A.B. would later serve as the brains behind some of Selena’s most distinguished songs] They would perform at weddings and on street corners in an effort to make a few quick bucks. The family initially struggled to get gigs, being Mexican in a predominately Caucasian atmosphere. Another catalyst hindering the bands success was that Selena did not speak Spanish, English was her first language. Her father taught her how to sing in Spanish phonetically, and soon, the bands popularity began to rise within the Hispanic community, singing Tejano music (or Tex-Mex). In 1984, Selena y los Dinos recorded their first LP, or long-play, record on vinyl which was conveniently titled Selena y los Dinos; they never looked back. Selena had arrived on scene. Right away she began abolishing barriers as the group was chastised for fronting a female, singing male dominated Tejano music. The bad was met with criticism from people saying that they would never be successful with Selena as their lead vocalist. It further hurt the bands chances with booking. While promoting the 1995 album, she was discovered by Rick Trevino who is the founder of the Tejano Music Awards (Tejano equivalent to the Grammy’s). She would win female vocalist of the year and performer of the year in 1987, and would continue to win it in the nine years after. Her success had only just begun. Selena would then sign with Capital EMI and release her album Ven Conmigo in 1990, which would become the first Tejano album ever to reach gold status selling more than five hundred-thousand copies, silencing all of her doubters. Selena was on an unprecedented role, which she sustained with a marriage to her band’s lead guitarist Chris Perez in 1992. In the year after, she would release Selena Live, which would win best Mexican American album at the thirty-sixth Grammy awards, making her the first ever Tejano artist to win a Grammy, she was only twenty-three years old. This album gave rise to the notable song Como la Flor, or like the flower, which was written by her brother A. B. The song gave Selena her first number one single and garnered her acceptance within the Mexican community, one more barrier for Selena to abolish. America was put on notice by the young and beautiful Latina music star. She followed up her record breaking album the only way that she could, by making another record breaking album. Her 1994 album Amor Prohibido would once again receive gold honors and six other awards by Billboard EMI. The band sought help from Ricky Vela and Pete Astudillo to follow up Como la Flor with something greater. This would prove to be the perfect marriage for the group. This landmark album coupled a multitude of music style from ranchera to hip hop music. It incorporates cumbia beats and mild synthesizers. The overall premise of the album was to work toward abolishing unstable relationships and social dichotomies speaking once again to the societal boundaries that Selena, herself, destroyed. Her most successful album to this point also had four number one hits on the Billboard Hot Latin songs, including the title song Amor Prohibido and its most recognized Bidi Bidi Bom Bom. It also holds the record for most consecutive weeks at number one on the US Billboard Regional Mexican Albums chart at ninety-seven, and was the first Tejano album ever to reach number one status on Billboard Top Latin Albums chart. Lastly, the album won the Tejano equivalent to album of the year through the Tejano Music Awards, and was nominated for Best Mexican-American album at the thirty sixth Grammy awards. There would no longer be any doubt that a woman could succeed in the Tejano music scene. Tragically, this would be the last of her album success that Selena would live to see. After selling out and breaking attendance records at the Houston Astrodome, Selena set out to create her first English album. Upon its completion, she never got to see the album’s release as she was savagely gunned down by the president of her fan club, Yolanda Saldivar in March of 1995. She was only twenty-three years old. A young, beautiful, charming soul gone entirely too soon. Her posthumous album Dreaming of You naturally debuted at number one and received triple platinum honors. Her story is one of triumph after tribulation. A story that saw racial hurdles within the Hispanic and Caucasian communities, being broken down, bringing people together in unity. Selena was a trailblazer, paving the way and opening doors for future Tejano superstars, such as Jennifer Lopez, who’s fame exploded after her lead role in the inspirational movie, Selena. Her music revolutionized the Tejano music scene, gaining it recognition in America, bringing it into the mainstream. She truly was the “Queen of Tejano Music” and the “Mexican Madonna”.

Welcome to Music Monday when we bring you great songs with jewelry, gemstones or precious metals in the title or lyrics. Today, a modest second-hand wedding band is the focus of "Golden Ring," a chart-topping duet by country legends George Jones and Tammy Wynette.

In the song, we follow a golden band through a cycle of young love, marriage and eventual heartbreak. Jones and Wynette were a married couple for six years, but divorced in 1975. They continued to perform after the breakup and scored a #1 hit in 1976 with a song that seemed to mirror the story of their tumultuous relationship.

The beginning of the song introduces the listener to a glittering ring that symbolizes all the promise of a young love. The second verse sees the couple exchanging vows and making a home for themselves. In the last verse, however, the relationship has gone sour and the ring reverts to the display case in a second-hand store where it was originally purchased.

The chorus punctuates the prevailing theme: "By itself it's just a cold metallic thing / Only love can make a golden wedding ring."

Written by Bobby Braddock and Rafe Vanhoy, "Golden Ring" was the title track to the Jones/Wynette duet album released in 1976 and the second of three #1 hits sung by the duo. The first was "We're Gonna Hold On" (1973) and the last was "Near You" (1977).

Even though their marriage didn't end well, in her autobiography, Wynette wrote, "The most fun, the most wonderful part of my career was working with George."

Born in a log cabin in the small town of Saratoga, Texas, Jones got his first guitar at the age of nine. By 1955, at the age of 24, Jones had already served in the Marines, was married twice and recorded his first hit song, “Why Baby Why.” In 1969, he married Wynette.

Over a career that spanned seven decades, Jones is credited with charting 168 country songs. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1992. Jones passed away in 2013 at the age of 81.

Wynette, who was born in Tremont, Miss., in 1942, is considered to be one of the most influential singers in country music history. She scored 20 #1 hits on the U.S. country singles charts (16 solo, three with Jones, and one with David Houston). She was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame and was ranked #2 in Country Music Television's "40 Greatest Women of Country Music."

Plagued by medical problems, which required 15 major operations, Wynette passed away in 1998 at the age of 55.
