Some Tom/Greg prompts I’ve been thinking about but don’t have the skill or time to actually write. Enjoy!

Based on my assumption that Tom totally planned his and Shiv's entire wedding himself:

Tom drags Greg to England for a week to finalize with the wedding planner and, under the guise of privacy (not writing "Roy" on any of the contracts for fear of press intervention), the vendors all assume they're the two getting married. After seeing how Greg is too awkward to correct anyone, Tom plays it up and realizes he wishes it was real.

I'm just in love with the idea that Greg was raised Jewish:

During their first holiday season as a married couple, Tom really wants to visit his family back in Minnesota for Christmas. Shiv refuses to go with him, saying it might do Tom some good to get away from her family (also, they're still not doing well on the whole 'open marriage' front). On the last day in the office before break, Tom brings up his plans to Greg in the breakroom. Greg wishes him well and Tom asks where he's planning to go and Greg just shrugs. He was planning on maybe having a meetup with any other friends staying in the city, but other than that, not much of anything. His mom was on a cruise with her friends, and his dad would be celebrating Hanukkah with his partner in California. Greg grew up Jewish and this time of year was never a big deal in his household. Tom, a true midwestern American, is aghast and demands Greg come with him to Minnesota. His parents have been consistently mentioning him when Tom makes his weekly call back home. "How's Greg from the wedding? He was such a polite boy!" He knows they won't mind if he brings him along. And hey, maybe they have to share a bed??

I mostly love imagining a domestic scene in which Greg and Tom have breakfast together early in the morning, Greg's hair super ruffled, sticking up everywhere and his super long legs exposed, wearing only boxers and a long sleeved sweater, grumbling into his cereal. Tom across from him drinking coffee and reading the news. Anyways.......

A slow, domestic AU in which Tom stays with Greg after the events on the yacht to avoid Shiv. They easily get into a routine and one day Tom accidentally calls Greg "honey" and kisses the top of his head when he's heading out for his morning run. He didn't realize he had done anything out of the ordinary until he gets back and Greg's still in the same place he left him, on the couch, just staring at the door. Tom asks what's up, and Greg surges up, grabs Tom's face, and pulls him up into a kiss.

Madness Inducement. Kelly does not like her power and finds it quite manipulative. She worked hard all of her teen years and young adulthood to have control over it.

BIOGRAPHY

Being the daughter of Morgana Cromwell was not easy no matter how hard the woman attempted to keep up appearances. Kelly’s childhood started off fine. While Millie was the much quieter of the two siblings, Kelly was a very exuberant child. She had a lot of energy and loved being the life of any party. The young girl didn’t know that this had everything to do with her father being Dionysus, but Morgana encouraged it all the same. When young, there weren’t too many visible problems with her mother. Sure, the woman could be overbearing, but that could just be chalked up to wanting the best for her children.

It wasn’t until the truth came out that things got screwed up. Neither she, Millicent, or Isobel were children of Henry. In fact, none of them shared a father at all. Her father was the Greek God Dionysus she eventually found out, but even though all of her daughters were products of infidelity, the only child that got the brunt of the blame was Millie. Kelly hated how their mother would treat their older sister who turned out to be more of a mother than Morgana ever could be. It was Millie who would check on them and help with homework, while their mother couldn’t be bothered unless it was to try and get them to do something that benefited her.

High school was when Kelly learned the extent of her powers. When she’d gotten angry at one of her friends in school for saying something about her older sister, her anger seemed to boil over in a way that made the girl act strangely. She became paranoid, hallucinated, and started yelling obscenities. It wasn’t until Kelly calmed down due to the shock of the situation that the young girl stopped. Curious about the connection, she googled what was known of her father’s abilities and discovered madness inducement. Of all the powers she could possess, she had to be gifted one that was utterly horrible. With fierce determination she worked towards controlling her emotions to ensure she never used it on anyone. Kelly couldn’t imagine anything worse than someone not being in control of their own mind.

Junior year of high school was easily the worst for Kelly. Isobel was shipped off to boarding school due to their mother’s raging paranoia, and Millicent left right at the end of her senior year. While Kelly understood Morgana wasn’t giving her oldest sister much of a choice, she still had tears streaming down her face as she hugged her sister goodbye. She made Millie promise to go off and figure herself out without having to live under their mother’s constant abuse anymore. All she wanted was for them all to have a chance of happiness instead of being constantly stifled.

That very summer, Kelly convinced her mother to let her get a job at Saks Fifth Avenue in the mall by dangling the family discount in front of her mother’s face. Every check she got, she’d pay the small fee to have it cashed as a Western Union, and then stash the money. At school she’d constantly try to email both of her sisters. Since she used her school email account, and Morgana couldn’t care less about her education, their mother had no idea about how close her daughters remained despite her attempts to keep them apart.

Morgana refused to let Kelly leave for college, so she went to the local university. Throughout the years, she kept her job and continued to save whatever she could for the day she and Bel could use it to escape. Patience was something Kelly had limitless amounts of, so she didn’t mind waiting out the perfect opportunity. She continued exchanging emails with Millie and enjoying learning about the woman she was finally able to turn into. Kelly focused on her classes and decided to major in hospitality management. Planning parties or being the life of them came naturally to Kelly. It only made sense for her to make money off of those skills, and the event that made the most money in any country was a wedding.

Life dragged by. Kelly graduated college, worked with an event planning company planning weddings, and tried to make sure she and Isobel were as happy as possible once her younger sibling moved back in the house. Although, Kelly’s heart stopped the moment Millicent stopped sending emails. No matter how crazy her older sister’s life got, she never went more than a day without replying, and when Kelly heard that Isobel hadn’t received their journal back either, panic set in. The news from Wyatt only confirmed that something terrible had happened.

Both she and Isobel had pleaded with Morgana to let them go. Kelly had been tempted for the first time in her life to use her powers because she couldn’t believe she was related to such a cold person. Her own daughter was missing and possible hurt, but she didn’t give a damn. All Morgana cared about was still blaming her child for her own adult mistakes. When news arrived that Millicent had returned, Kelly worked with Isobel to escape. Luckily Bel’s father was willing to help, and together they had more than enough money to make it in Icaria. Kelly left St. Paul in her review mirror, and she was all too happy to never look back

Frierson and three colleagues pulled the simple game together in a single weekend at a hackathon — an event where people work together to build solutions to problems. “A lot of educational games are not very good because they’re a little bit boring,” he says. “It’s most important to make it fun first.”

Scientists often state that the planet has warmed by 1 degree Celsius (1.8 degrees Fahrenheit) since 1850. But the weather from year to year varies. It’s hard to grasp just what one degree of overall warming is like.

That’s why Daniel Crawford picked up his cello.

Crawford studies climate at the University of Minnesota in St. Paul. When he was a college student, he worked with Scott St. George, a scientist who studies climate by looking at ancient tree rings. “He had been interested in using music to convey trends in climate change data,” Crawford says.

Crawford and St. George started with a dataset of surface temperatures beginning in 1880. By matching each yearly temperature change with a musical note, Crawford composed a “song for our warming planet.” As the temperature gets warmer, the notes get higher. The result is a creepy tune. “The maps, the graphs and the numbers are not conveying the message,” Crawford says. He and St. George hope that music might make a difference.

Artist Michele Banks frequently uses science in her work. “I use science as a way to approach ideas about life in general,” she says. “I find it really fascinating … it helps us get closer to answers about big questions.” Banks is based in Washington, D.C., and usually paints with watercolor.

But when she decided to create a piece about climate change for an art show, Banks started with a wedding dress. “I called it the marriage of ice and carbon, the Arctic bride,” she says. The dress is the usual wedding white on the top. That represents the Arctic’s ice. But as the climate warms, the frosty Arctic melts. Banks’ dress dissolves into a weedy mass of green. “It doesn’t give you a feeling of growth. It’s that icky dull brown and green that you see when the snow melts,” she says. “That’s a lot of what’s up in the Arctic right now. It’s not a happy green.”

By using a wedding dress — something that everyone will know — Banks hopes that her project will bring climate change home. “I want people to think about the effects that their decisions and their ways of life are having on places that are far away from them.”

History presents 'Fight the Power'; 'Us' on 'Masterpiece' | Arts & Entertainment

NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar hosts and co-produced “Fight the Power: The Movements That Changed America” (7 p.m. Saturday, History, TV-PG). This one-hour survey offers a brisk glance at protest movements, from the Labor Rights struggled between the 1880s and the 1930s; the battle to give women the vote; the modern Civil Rights movement that emerged from the Montgomery, Ala., bus protests and the murder of Emmett Till; the fight for gay recognition and rights in the post-Stonewall era; and the recent uprisings protesting police violence against men and women of color. Each of these historical currents could fill a documentary of its own, if not miniseries treatment.

A fascinating figure who defies category, Jabbar was a perennial All-Star during his playing days with the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Lakers. At the same time, he studied martial arts with Bruce Lee. In his retirement, he has emerged as what used to be known as a “public intellectual,” a writer and spokesperson unaffiliated with academia who has been vocal in his support of social justice movements. He’s also a widely published author. Similar to many famous people, he has written his memoirs but also has co-written several ruminations on Sherlock Holmes and World War II.

“Fight the Power” is one among many commemorations of Juneteenth, recalling June 19, 1865, when Black residents of Galveston, Texas, were informed of the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863. History will repeat “Tulsa Burning: The 1921 Race Massacre” (8 p.m., Saturday, TV-14). Other notable cable offerings include “12 Years a Slave” (6 p.m. Saturday, Sundance, TV-14) and “Selma” (7 p.m., FXM, TV-14). CBS will air “Selma” (7 p.m., Sunday) as well, its network broadcast debut.

• Nothing quite announces a couple’s comfortable semi-retirement like a European tour. Unless, of course, you’re on the verge of splitting up and have a miserable teenage son tagging along.

That’s the gist of “Us,” a “Masterpiece” (8 p.m., Sunday, PBS, TV-14) presentation based on a novel by David Nicholls.

Douglas (Tom Hollander, “The Night Manager”) awakens one morning to his wife, Connie’s (Saskia Reeve, “Luther”), announcement she wants a change. Not a divorce as much as a separation. With their moody son, Albie (Tom Taylor), about to enter university, she thinks “their work is done” and can’t face the prospect of empty nesting with a man who can’t communicate.

Or so she says. This bombshell coincides with their long-planned grand tour of continental capitals, an expensive one at that. Douglas insists they call it off, but Connie persuades him it might offer one last chance for him to bond with his sullen offspring.

So, don’t go expecting an amusing travelogue similar to “The Trip” franchise with Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon. The spirit here is more akin to “Two for the Road,” the wistful 1967 anti-romance starring Audrey Hepburn and Albert Finney.

Happily, it’s about this time “Us” offers prolonged flashbacks to the first encounters of young Douglas and Connie (Iain De Caestecker and Gina Bramhill), when he was a socially awkward biochemist and she a budding artist surrounded by a gaggle of pretentious friends.

Both the grand tour and the misty reminiscences unfold with a great deal of walking and talking, not unlike the charming and highly chatty 1995 Richard Linklater romance “Before Sunrise,” starring Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy. At its best, and perhaps its most obvious, “Us,” suggests this long wander is about to enter a new juncture.

It’s a bit of a shame “Masterpiece” should offer this series during two Sundays in two-hour dollops. Sixty minutes of this talky and often heartbreaking story is more than enough in one sitting. Who tunes in to British TV to listen to characters talk about their feelings?

— OK, that was weird. The least expected story of the week was the scandal involving Felicity Huffman (“Desperate Housewives”) and Lori Loughlin, star of “When Calls the Heart” (7 p.m. Sunday, Hallmark, TV-G), in a bribery/cheating plot to get their respective daughters into elite universities.

This is obviously an ongoing case, and all sides must have their say, or day, in court. But the motivation at the center of this story is worth discussing. It involves some overwhelming need to do anything to get children into elite schools. As if anything “lesser” were unthinkable.

Television plays no small role in this insecurity. I can’t remember how many times I’ve had to describe an ABC legal drama where every single character hails from only the most exclusive Ivy and spends most of the pilot bragging about it.

There was a time, not that long ago, when John Grisham wrote best-selling books about young, barely accredited lawyers from no-name institutions who took on impossible cases against massive corporations and eventually won. And got the girl, to boot.

So, our current era’s neurotic obsession with elitism and inequality is hardly hard-wired.

If anything comes of this sordid affair, it’s an appreciation that shoddy efforts at snobbery are always essentially pathetic. Or on classic TV, comedic. Watching “Gilligan’s Island,” we identified with Mary Ann and the Skipper, and pitied the millionaire and his wife.

— CNN launches the four-hour documentary “Tricky Dick” (8 p.m., Sunday), profiling the life and times of Richard Nixon’s public career, which spanned the decades from the dawn of the Cold War to the Clinton years.

For the past five years, the residents of Bravo's Summer House have invaded the easternmost tip of Long Island, NY to escape the hustle and bustle of work-week Manhattan. In season 5, filmed during the pandemic, they're sequestering together for the whole summer, amping up the tension and heightening the outbursts.

Since the reality show premiered in 2017, the cast has changed some, but the drama has remained the same. Of course, a number of these up-and-coming professionals stand out from the rest, if only to prove that even with youth and beauty, the struggle can still be real.

10 Luke Gulbranson

He may be the worst of the best, but Luke brought inter-house dating/two-timing into the mix as well as an argument that was one tequila shot away from turning into a brawl. OG cast member Kyle Cooke took umbrage with the Northern Minnesota native's treatment of women, as he'd been playing both Hannah Berner and newbie Ciara Miller. (Ciara didn't take the bait, but Hannah fell hook, line, and sinker.)

The thing is though, Luke is a working actor, most recently appearing alongside Kaley Cuoco in HBO Max's The Flight Attendant, so it's hard to know if his cad-like behavior is genuine or if he's "auditioning."

9 Lauren Wirkus

The now married (since June of 2020 as well as expecting) identical twin of Ashley, brought the confidence of a person who knew someone always had her back. Housemate Carl Radke had no chance when he was in a relationship with Lauren because when they'd have a fight, he'd end up being double-teamed by the Wirkus Circus.

She left the series after season 2, but while Lauren was in the house, she made her presence known, such as when she smashed a cake in Carl's face, or in season 2 when Lauren stepped back and gave the floor to Ashley who smashed a watermelon on it to make known their twin anger at Carl.

8 Stephen McGee

Thus far the only representative of the LGBTQ community, he brought attention to the struggle of trying to balance living his life as an openly gay man (dating Travis) and getting along with his conservative southern family.

In seasons 1 & 2, the event planner was a bit of a pot-stirrer. Giving off a very nice and almost innocent vibe, Stephen appeared to be someone to whom people felt safe in confiding. However, he'd turn around and expose those secrets the minute he felt left out or angered, such as when Stephen got fed up with Carl's treatment of BFF Lauren and revealed Carl's little-known same-sex romantic encounter.

7 Ciara Miller

As with The Real Housewives of New York, Bravo rightly decided it was time to add a POC to the all-white cast. The Atlanta native was introduced as a friend of Luke's, but because of her confidence, broke free of the association and created her own identity and friendships.

Ciara, although a part-time model, brings a bit of gravitas to the show via her profession as an ICU nurse who was on the frontline of the COVID-19 relief efforts. Because she likely saw real-life drama in her professional life, she doesn't need it in her personal life, keeping her head while those around her are losing theirs.

6 Paige DeSorbo

The native New Yorker and fashion influencer (her bedroom at the summer house looks like a giant walk-in closet) has emerged from the crowd as the voice of reason, and like Ciara has managed to stay above the fray, presumably because she has a non-cast member boyfriend, Perry, hence no on-premises entanglements.

Paige has also evolved into the role of in-house counsel/therapist, intervening to advise, negotiate and point out when there's enough blame to go around. Because no one is perfect, she's been known to stir the pot when someone gets on her bad side.

5 Amanda Batula

When we first met Amanda she was Kyle's beleaguered girlfriend. Even though they were in a committed relationship, he saw no reason to stop seeing other women--especially after drinking too much, which seemed to be every waking moment of the weekend.

Because of that, the guest-cum-cast member had chronic Resting Cry Face, as she often screamed at him. But there's nothing like a long-awaited engagement ring to say all's forgiven. Amanda is very self-assured in her relationship, coming to Kyle's defense against anyone who "comes after my man," and recently left her full-time position as a graphic designer to become the Creative, Branding and Marketing head of Loverboy, a hard teas and craft cocktails venture started by Kyle. Their wedding has been postponed more than once.

4 Hannah Berner

No one can take a conversation from zero to 60 like this roommate. The podcast host (Berning in Hell and the new Giggly Squad with pal Paige) is the epitome of free-spiritedness and has made no secret that she's not just looking for love but looking to be loved. Perhaps now that, on season 5, Hannah has gotten over Luke by getting under new guy (now fiance) Des Bishop, she will calm down.

Unfortunately, this co-host of Bravo's Chat Room is often hard to like because she constantly starts fights--especially with Kyle. The phrase "hurt people, hurt people" comes to mind when it comes to this young woman who, even when smiling, seems rather sad.

3 Carl Radke

They say life doesn't give you more than you can handle. If this is true, then Carl can handle a lot. His brother passed away, his parents' marriage failed and left his mother devastated and using her son as her sounding board, and the sales professional lost his job. On top of all that he had to come to terms with his escalated drinking. Those who recall his earlier season relationship with Lauren, and more recently with current housemates Paige and Lindsay Hubbard, know that as a boyfriend, it'll be awhile before he's ready to settle down.

Although Carl seems determined to get his life under control, beginning with his position working for Kyle running Sales and Business Development for Loverboy, there is a deep emotion that could be construed as anger under the surface, evidenced by the fight between Kyle and Luke, which had bystander Carl the first to lunge at Luke fist raised.

2 Lindsay Hubbard

Piece of work is a phrase that comes to mind when talking about this blonde bombshell with brains to match. Lindsay is ambitious and business-savvy, and not one to hold back when something's on her mind. She's at once an older sister/advisor to the house's younger female squad, yet when it comes to romance needs a mentor of her own.

Over the seasons we've seen this alpha female have the same confrontation with former cast member/lover Everett, current cast mate/former lover Carl, and current boyfriend Stephen that goes something like: "You should kiss the ground I walk on; You should only focus on me; You should make 'me' a sandwich." There's a fine line between having high standards as to how you want to be treated and wanting to be treated like a Disney Princess. Lindsay seems to be standing on it.

1 Kyle Cooke

This guy is the gift that keeps on giving. The hard-partying entrepreneur has kept it interesting from the pilot by always finding a way to make it all about him. The quintessential Peter Pan, the 38-year-old is everybody's big brother, yet can be the most immature person in the room, unaware that his frat boy days are behind him.

Kyle seems to be one of those people who cannot be confined, hence he chooses to accept the risk of being an entrepreneur rather than work a 9-to-5, and why it took awhile to remain loyal to Amanda, whom he proposed to in season 3 (2019). The couple has yet to marry, citing the global health pandemic as the reason. Although this was probably a factor, Amanda might secretly suspect what viewers have known all along: she might want to wait until Kyle grows up.

The Ghost of Rituals Past

So far in 2017 I feel that I haven’t posted much new content. I enjoy sharing my experiences and my practice in druidry, and I’ve also been engaging in more community involvement. Aside from being the curator of Oakdale Grove: a fellowship of the Reformed Druids of North America, I am also a supporting member of Northern Roots Grove: a local eclectic and unaffiliated druid group. This year I also became a member of Dancing Waters Protogrove: the only active ADF grove in Minnesota, and I’ve attended a handful of ceremonies from Druids of the Mists of Stone Forest Grove. I think they win for the longest grove name I’ve ever seen. Their tradition has its origins in the Henge of Keltria though they are no longer affiliated. In addition to being my grove’s cat herder, I am also the primary planner, treasurer, liturgist, chauffeur, spiritual advisor, life coach, communications officer, and social media spokesperson. This is a labor of love and is my way of answering a call to service in accordance with the vows I swore when I became a Third Order Reformed Druid Priest in 2013. So what happens when things get busy? The social media takes a hit. This post is for those rituals that never made it to social media.

I hate to admit this, but I actually don’t really remember Oakdale Grove’s Vernal Equinox ritual. I think I ended up using the same ritual outline I had put together for Northern Roots Grove’s druid ritual at Paganicon. Ironically, that ritual was one I reverse engineered from various RDNA rituals to give it a more universalist approach. When I used it again for Oakdale Grove, I put all the RDNA stuff back into it. Seeing the ritual chalice above, it really looks like I used an ale, but alcohol is not to be used between Samhain and Beltane except in emergencies according to RDNA tradition. I truly do not remember what is in that chalice, though the red ones next to the pewter appear to contain water as is customary. Whiskey is typically used between Beltane and Samhain. This was the only photo from the spring equinox.

Wow. I have zero pictures from Beltane. We had three grove members enter the First Order of the Reformed Druids of North America. I did post two pictures of Lake Mille Lacs after the Beltane ritual for Dancing Waters Protogrove, but that was long after the ritual, when we were picking wild wormwood. In retrospect, I think that wormwood patch might have been planted by members of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe, but I have no reason to be certain.

Oakdale Grove had quite the eventful Midsummer Solstice. As usual, it coincided with the annual alumni reunion at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. For those who may not be aware, Carleton College is the birthplace of the Reformed Druids of North America.

We were joined by three Carleton alumni, David Frangquist: one of the founders of the RDNA, was the third Arch-Druid of Carleton Grove and author of many of the early writings, his wife Deborah: the first woman to complete the ordeal of the All-Night Vigil to enter the priesthood of the druids, and there was one more recent Arch-Druid alumnus present who preferred to remain anonymous.

We had a visitor who traveled from Rochester, Minnesota for the celebration, and she entered the First Order. Another regular attendee of Oakdale Grove entered the Second Order. And David Frangquist ordained yours truly to the Seventh Order, which was the first time anyone had entered the Seventh Order in 51 years. More on that later.

For the Midsummer Solstice I again traveled to Kathio Mille Lacs State Park to attend Dancing Waters Protogrove’s ADF ritual. I really am torn about taking pictures during rituals. It feels tacky, even when I am encouraged or granted permission. I know this is flawed logic, but if cameras are allowed at weddings, why not druid rituals? Yes, I rolled my eyes at my own comment.

For Lughnasadh, I got zero photos while at Dancing Water’s Protogrove’s ritual, and only one photo of the altar setup for Oakdale Grove. My second edition of A Reformed Druid Anthology does not fit on my altar very well. Come to think of it, I don’t have a post about my modular altar boxes yet. Stay tuned for that.
