something i love is making characters be other characters . like keith and tim. he grew up as tim but after his mom died and his dad was in a wheelchair, and steph was robin becus his dad found out, his dad sent him to his biological father (that tim disnt knkw about cus he didnt know he was adopted) only for that father to die a month after captain boomerang or whatever killed jack drake in a fire, then him meeting shiro and getting adopted by him for a lil bit and changing his name (apparently) back to keith (the drakes changed it because Keith didnt sound as rich as timothy did). Noe bruce has been looking for keith for ages, but since he changed his name back bruce hasnt found him. Then shiro gets captured in space, cannon voltron ensues, ‘n then sometime after they defeat zarkon but brfore they defeat lotor when keith is with the BOM he meets Hal Jourdan. And he wants to ask how batman is but it wiuld seem weird so he refrains and theres a bunch of scenes where you can see Hal talking to a blade member and Keith glancing at him every now and then, and then he’s sent to meet his mom.

while on the weblum, i think it was, maybe, he and krolia bond so he ends up telling her evrrything about robin, his young justicd team, what hapoened with the past robins, and vatman. of course krolia understands nothing because when she was on earth it was in the desert with no internet but she makes sure to rememver everything because it’s her baby boys life that she’s learning about because she wasnt able tk be there for him. when they get back on eartth, keiths only worry is looking up brice wayne and seeing if he’s okay, only to find iut that the entire family was captured regardless of their fighting skills, and that jason todd was actually alive, and that bruce had a bio kid. Pulling a proper keith move, he only tells his mom and they both disappear so that they can go save his family.

they do save them, eveyone lf them. And they’re all wondering who this random guy with a good galra is only for either steph or bruce to look into his eyes and recognize him and whisler “..Tim?” and him to go “its keith actually, i was adopted by the drakes and they changed my name.”

actually thinking about the galra prince keith AU and just. listen. Kyor doesn't send Acxa into the Weblum. He is in fact, not trying to build an inter-reality gate like Lotor did in canon because he thinks the best way to deal with the Galra Empire's quintessence dependence is to ween the Empire off of it.

But Acxa still ends up in the Weblum anyways.

Keith did not expect to see her there. He lands on the ship and they just give each other a dumbfounded look for an awkward length of time before he rescues her. Prince Kyor also did not brief Acxa that he would be going inside a Weblum as part of his paladin work either. So it's a very mutual. what the hell are you doing here kind of feeling for the both of them.

And then Keith remembers Hunk is with him.

So they just kind of. Have to pretend to not know each other. It's very awkward. Acxa is at least able to convince Hunk to drop her off somewhere instead of taking her back to the Castle. Please. It is fine. She'll be able to get a ride back to her ship. But thank you, paladin. You are very kind.

Hunk: I think we made a really good impression on that nice Galra lady. I guess it's not only the Blade of Marmora that's friendly! :)

Keith: ...yeah. sure. that's definitely it.

Keith's relationships with the paladins, in alphabetical order.

This is both an analysis and a reference for my voltron rewrite.

Allura,

Allura and Keith's relationship interests me a lot because they're both very emotional. They both think with their emotions, but have very valid reasons and upbringing as to why. Their race is also an integral part of their story.

Their dynamic is really interesting to me. Alluras disliking of Keiths Galra heritage plays exactly on Keith's insecurities. While many criticize Allura for her behavior (and her racism) she did put her biases aside.

In season 7, Keith and Alluras role shift briefly (very briefly) where Keith plays on Alluras insecurities regarding her father. Which oddly, is the exact same way Lotor felt about Alluras father.

Is it because Keith was going space mad that he called Alluras father a coward? Or is there some truth to it that we aren't aware of?

In my AU Keith and Allura are a lot more involved because of their relationship to Lotor. (I will not elaborate)

Hunk,

A perfect depiction of introverted/extroverted relationship. While they don't mave many interactions alone, they do have episodes dedicated with the two.

I find their friendship the most entertaining certainly because I relate to it. I think they both find each other odd based off some interactions, (mostly in s1 and s2) which makes sense. They're polar opposites, but they still retain a well amount of respect of each other.

As said by Tyler Labine (in the Weblum episode) that was when Hunk realized he liked Keith as a person. I don't think this means Hunk is a judgemental person afterall he defended Keith's Galra heritage, he wants Keith to open up to him. (Even if he does tease him a little)

I think Hunk makes Keith grow more as a person too, aside from Shiro. Hunk called out Keith's indifference towards Allura kidnapping. He attempts to keep Keith grounded when they're all collectively going space.

How does Keith feel about Hunk? He admitted in season 7, he finds Hunk to be the bravest (same) and its clear that Keith would rather suffer than admit he's scared, making him the easiest to fall apart mentally. I really find the episode in s7 where they're lost in space a perfect representation of their relationship.

In my AU not much would change except Hunk becomes a stand in for what Shiro was for Keith.

Lance,

Controversial opinion, I find Hunk and Keith's relationship to have more weight but one thing I like about these two is how their rivalry helps Lance develop. It was really Lance who was always jealous of Keith, and on purposely antagonized him.

The red paladins is a perfect example of their relationship. Lance, again antagonizes Keith for something he doesn't even want to do, but until Lance actually sees that Keith is hurting from the decision he puts aside his ego.

Personally, I find Lance becoming Keith's right hand man the most interesting, but I want to see more episodes where they're working together as a team.

While I think Lance sees Keith as a role model, Keith doesn't always reciprocate friendly feelings back to Lance. By season 8 though they actually bond (parallel to season 1) without it being done jokingly.

In my AU, there's a love triangle between Keith, Lance and Allura evoking more of Lance's jealously, until Lotor comes along. Lance's bitterness on Keith's leadership doesn't last an episode. Nah, I need more drama.

Pidge,

Their only interactions was in season 1, kinda disappointing for characters who are the MOST similar. They could've almost been foils to each other. Both Pidge and Keith are stubborn, asocial (in their own ways) Pidge has a family to care about, and Keith doesn't (yet) which drives their conflict for an episode.

In my AU there's actually a lot different with Pidge, but her and Keith do get the chance to bond over family.

Shiro,

There's so much to say about their relationship, but I can also summarize it in a sentence. They love each other. Whether you see it as romantic or platonic, it's whatever.

There isn't much from Shiros side of the relationship, but I can assume he sees himself in Keith (as the black lion does), and he puts a lot of faith in Keith. It isn't said, but I assume Shiro is greatful for Keith. In the same way Keith is clearly greatful for Shiro

I think the episode in season 2 where they were stranded perfectly depicts their relationship.

However, for two characters who are supposedly vulnerable around each other, there isn't much showing that. At least some of it isn't addressed. In some instances I feel like they hold each other back (mostly from Keith's end)

I would add more but, I want to make a separate post about the flaws in their relationship.

In my AU love isn't enough to keep their relationship alive. (I will not elaborate, just know it's Shiros fault)

I really love how Acxa looks after the season 7 time skip. She looks so much more mature and relaxed, she didn't change to the point where she was unrecognizable, it was a subtle change, but definitely one I appreciate. Do you like Acxa before or after?

I love Acxa in all her appearances but have a soft spot for how she looked like in act 1-2. I was an OG Acxa fan from the start from back when she was simply Weblum Galra (I have a thing for masked characters and Acxa in Belly of the Weblum scratched that Itch). Her general design is nostalgic for me in a way. The fact that her design is actually relatively rare nowadays in Western media certainly helps too.

And as much as I love her character development in s7-8 (I will forever be surprised and stoked that she got a whole episode dedicated to her. If you told me in November 2018 that the Grudge existed and was her episode I would not have believed you) I absolutely adored Little Shit Acxa who would derail the other generals' conversations to correct them or how annoyed she was about Keith (she always so angry that she needed to save him. Bruh you're the one doing this to yourself) or how she would betray Lotor and everyone a thousand times again. My friend calls her a "Noble Demon" and honestly yeah. I love her in her Rancid era. Definitely nostalgia playing into that but still.

And I do like her look in act 3 don't get me wrong. Unpopular opinion but it's not meant to be more ~ femme ~ so much as she simply did not care anymore about maintaining her appearance. Hence the extraordinarily dry and frizzy hair still somewhat carelessly brushed back in her old style. Her room is the most barebones utilitarian hole in the wall and I'm pretty sure everyone dragged the boxes around to to get seats. She is also canonically a manspreader. We have to accept that even post character development, she is still very ratty.

so im currently working on the personality section of acxa's bio . some feedback would be much appreciated !

Before she, Zethrid, and Ezor turned their lives around to join the Coalition, Acxa was more or less the co-leader to Lotor. Loyal to the ex-emperor pro tem to a tee, she was quick to lose her temper toward anyone who tried to take a stand against him. While she was more serious when with her generals, she did show mercy towards the Paladins more often than not, particularly with Keith, not wanting to kill him when they crossed paths and fought each other and even teaming up with him in order to escape the Weblum.

Acxa’s loyalty to Lotor faltered significantly when he killed Narti, another of her fellow generals, and she became a bit cold toward him, though she still trusted him. Even when she, Ezor, and Zethrid were recruited by Haggar, Acxa still felt like Lotor was their true leader. This was proven when she tried to shoot Honerva and rescue him from her and when she told him she’d never doubted him when he revealed the Quintessence rift to them.

During the fight with Voltron, after Lotor’s declaration of “wiping the universe of all his enemies”, including the Galra, Acxa decided that she would no longer fight by his side and ordered Zethrid and Ezor to dsengage from the battle. She still tried pleading with him before being jettisoned out of the Sincline ship, which showed that, as fucked up as it was, she had a shrivel of loyalty to him left in her.

keith stands there as she says her peace , speechless . he . . . didn't know he meant that much to acxa , and honestly , he feels the same . he wouldn't be here if he hadn't met her in the weblum all those years ago , which feels like a lifetime now . finally , after her words have sunk in , he reaches out and takes her hand . ❝ acxa , i . . . i feel the same . if we hadn't met , i feel like my life would have been different than what it is now . you are one of the ones who allowed me to accept the fact that i'm galra , and without you , i most likely wouldn't be standing here right now . . . so . . . thank you . ❞

Ubicación: Segunda temporada, capítulo 9

Tenían varias horas viajando por el espacio profundo, manteniendo un silencio casi sacrosanto entre ellos dos. Tenían un recorrido largo que recorrer, en su nuevo plan para derrotar al ejercito de Zarkon era necesario encontrar un Weblum, un extraño y gigantesco gusano espacial devorador de planetas muertos.  Por desgracia, ese ambiente entre ambos no era tan pacifica como se esperaba Keith durante la mayor parte de su viaje, en especial cuando Hunk lo observaba constantemente de reojo.

–¿Qué? –le soltó el paladín rojo finalmente hartándose de la situación.

–No, nada –dijo efusivamente Hunk sacudiendo una de sus manos, mientras la otra la mantuvo en los controles de su león –. No iba a decir nada.

A pesar de que el paladín amarillo negó efusivamente con la cabeza, Keith no pudo evitar arquear una ceja ante su peculiar forma de actuar. Sabía que había más.

–Aunque…

Y… ahí venía…

–Sientes… –preguntó Hunk nervioso – alguna extraña necesidad de conquistar el universo.

–¿Qué? ¡No!

–Lo siento –insistió de nuevo Hunk negando efusivamente la cabeza –, solo preguntaba.

–Enfoquémonos en la misión –le pidió Keith a pesar de un leve sonrojo en sus mejillas.

–Sí, definitivamente. Pero…

–¿Qué?

Hunk gruñó unos sonidos indescifrables en lo que luchaba consigo mismo para no decir precisamente lo que tenía en mente.

–Los glara tienen capacidades animales –dijo éste finalmente apretando los ojos, como si la necesidad de preguntar fuera más fuerte que él –. Acaso… ¿Puedes ver en la oscuridad? ¿Super olfato? ¿Oído agudo?

–Hunk basta – ordenó Keith apretando su puño contra la cabecera de su asiento.

–Lo siento, lo siento, lo siento – se disculpó el paladín enérgicamente completamente apenado –. Solo tenía un poco de curiosidad y quería saber…

Keith volvió a contemplar a Hunk de reojo y sus reacciones exageradas. Conocía suficiente de su compañero para saber que no había malicia en sus palabras, y después del descubrimiento de su origen galra, todos los miembros del equipo Voltron habían tenido reacciones variadas y diferentes ante la noticia, por lo que no le era mucha sorpresa la reacción de Hunk.

Pero tampoco era un tema que Keith estaba muy listo para hablar, por lo que el paladín rojo soltó un suspiro y agregó tajantemente:

–Pero es suficiente, Hunk.

–Sí, lo entiendo… –aceptó Hunk tratando de enfocarse en pilotear su león, pero la consternación continuaba reflejada en su rostro. Y después de tres miseros segundos de silenciosa paz, agregó –: ¿Tienes pelaje azul en alguna parte de cuerpo que no está a la vista?

–¡Hunk! –bramó Keith tan rojo como su león.

El paladín amarillo se retorció en su asiento en lo que hacía todo lo posible para desaparecer.

A pesar de toda la frustración que le generaba a Keith, éste no podía permanecer enojado con él, más con su comportamiento nervioso y sumiso que resultaba hasta adorable viniendo de alguien de sus dimensiones.

–Mira, los siento –dijo Keith conservando un poco más la calma –. Pero esto es nuevo para mí como lo es para ustedes. Ni siquiera entiendo cómo es posible –agregó poniéndose también nervioso –. Esto me resulta confundo, por lo que apreciaría que no tocáramos más el tema. Ya por si Allura me odia –agregó tratando de no sonar patético.

Por desgracia, así se sentía.

–Ella no te odia –soltó entonces Hunk leyendo a la perfección las expresiones de su compañero paladín –. Odia a los galra… que ahora formas parte –agregó confundido y dando una sonrisa nerviosa –. Tal vez si te odia un poquito… pero estoy seguro que no es por ti.

El comentario de Hunk fue acompañado de una sonrisa tan sincera que hizo sentir a Keith extrañamente cómodo.

–Y ¿Por qué preguntas todo esto?

–Es que… bueno –dijo Hunk nervioso de nuevo –, me gusta entender porque suceden las cosas o porque son como son… es parte de mi curiosidad nata.

–Y a escuchado eso antes… –comentó Keith sonriendo y recordando a cierta personita.

–Además se trata de ti –agregó el paladín amarillo sorprendiendo a Keith.

Éste lo contempló incrédulo en lo que Hunk le dirigía una de sus cálidas sonrisas que lo hacían sentir en un lugar seguro. Algo que no había experimentado desde su visita a la base secreta de los miembros de la espada de Marmora.

Keith soltó de nuevo un suspiro y trató de sonreír por igual.

–Gracias –dijo el paladín rojo en casi un susurro, en lo que juntaba su frente con la Hunk, haciendo que sus cascos chocaran suavemente –. Te prometo que cuanto entienda más de esto serás el primero a que se lo diré. Pero por ahora…

–De mis labios no saldrá otra pregunta –respondió el otro por igual aceptando la leve muestra de afecto.

–Gracias.

–Y no te preocupes por Allura –aseguró Hunk una vez que se apartaron el uno del otro –, tal vez ella también solo necesita tiempo.

Another piece of criticism is how Acxa never talked in the Weblum. Back when I thought the Weblum Galra was Lotor, I thought that the Weblum Galra was a mute. Acxa never even bothered talking inside of it, despite the fact that communicating with them would make things far easier for her. Later on, she has no issues or hang ups talking with others, so why do that? p1

“P2: I'm not sure if they didn't pick out a VA for her or what the deal was, but that whole thing was just strange. It would've been more interesting with Lotor or Acxa were actually mute. They also treated the actual mute and blind female horribly as well, making her more of a plot device to be killed off more so then a fleshed out character. Narti could've easily been scrapped and made little impact on the story.”

Weblum Galra was so lithe, with a bit of booty, that I was certain they were female. The choice to not have them speak told me that the story was intentionally keeping the identity secret, and usually that’s done for female characters. SuRpRIse! SaMUs iS A GirL!

You’re totally right, that it doesn’t make sense. There’s no reason why Acxa wouldn’t speak...although...which Acxa are we talking about? OOC S7-S8 Acxa that was written by new writers in a rush without a show bible, or the terse by-the-book Acxa from S3-S5? It’s plausible that Acxa would have kept quiet if she felt it would be good conduct. Still, you’d think they could have had weblum Galra use a voice modulator to conceal identity while speaking. It really was too much time to remain silent.

There’s something else though, her uniform in the weblum had the Galra symbol on it, and we never see that again. It felt a little slapped on to me, and it could be that they didn’t know what they were going to do with weblum Galra yet. There’s no reason why Acxa would have worn the Galra symbol instead of the one designed for Lotor’s faction. I kind of get the sense that weblum Galra was an ambiguous plot hook pulling double duty for Keith’s post-Galra reveal character development. This isn’t inherently a bad thing, “window dressing” NPCs show up all the time when playing/running tabletop RPGs, and sometimes the PCs notice a little much and then the NPC works their way into the story on the fly.

As for Narti, yeah, that’s a critique for another day if I ever have the time. They had gold in their hands with Lotor and the Generals and they threw it away, casting narrative pearls before DaRk AnD EdgY swine.

So now that it’s all but confirmed that Weblum Galra is one of Lotor’s generals, this moment becomes all the more significant because she now has crucial information to report to Lotor. Just from these few lines she knows that they’re paladins of Voltron, that one of them is at least part Galra (very crucial given Lotor’s apparent interest in “half-breeds”), and that they have a soft spot for rescuing people in need (something that could potentially be exploited and used against them). In the scene (second image), Weblum Galra’s head turns toward them when Keith and Hunk are talking, so i think it’s safe to assume she was listening closely to what they said. Given how Voltron does foreshadowing I would bet money that Team Voltron is going to pay dearly for Hunk and Keith’s slip-up with this info

assorted fun facts for the twin AU:

Akira was trained from a young age to mimic voices, since it's a talent that might come in handy even though he can't do deep cover missions. This means he can do pitch perfect impressions of all of the paladins and roughly 95% of the Blades.

Heath and Krolia did not know they were having twins until she was actually giving birth. Nothing puts the fear of god into a man like your alien wife gripping your arm and telling you there's another one.

Multiple births are exceedingly rare amongst the Galra, and identical twins are even rarer! Multiple births are just. flat out not a thing for Alteans, so Keith and Akira are extremely novel for both Allura and Coran.

Krolia taught Akira English. Akira teaches Keith Galran.

Keith can't fool Kolivan into thinking he's Akira, but he can pull it off with other Blades.

Akira only has a faint familiarity with the concept of civilian clothing, since it's not something he has cause to wear often in the Blade. His largest exposure to it is borrowing Keith's Earth wear when he's posing as him. It's no wonder then, that his style ends up being similar to his twin's- though he leans more to purple, blacks, and blues as opposed to Keith's red, white, and yellow.

You know who gets just as blindsided by the the fact that there are two red paladins as the paladins do? Lotor. For once he did not see this coming.

Actually. They kind of forget to tell Lotor. Well. The paladins do. Keith and Akira have realized the paladins did not brief Lotor on the fact that there were two of them and decide to use this to their advantage.

They manage to keep it up for awhile until Lotor walks in on the two of them in the same room together. It is the only time they get to see him looking truly surprised.

Keith and Akira determine who has to go to the Weblum by playing rock paper scissors. Keith loses.

They also do rock paper scissors whenever they have to do one of Coran's stupid ice shows. Any task they both hate, they decide with rock paper scissors.

The paladins trying to piece together which of the twins was actually Keith on which day. Neither Keith nor Akira are helping.

Pidge: So let me get this straight. You two were raised apart for eighteen years, on opposite sides of the universe. You'd never met before this.

Keith: Pretty much.

Pidge: HOW are you two so in sync?

(Keith and Akira just shrug. Paladin shit? Twin shit? Twin paladin shit?)

They may or may not eventually establish a psychic link with each other. Their power is now off the charts.
