WAUGH FINISHED S3 😭😭😭

Season 2 remains best season of MASH to me but two things stood out to me about S3 esp... the Mutual Delight, it seemed like Trapper was constantly looking over at Hawkeye and giggling/Wayne breaking, and there were several episodes that were Thinkers to me...

House Arrest not even your extremely good TrapHawk moments can atone for your sins ❤️ IDK I have a high tolerance for bad 70s sex comedy but this one was just weird tonally, it was supposed to end on comeuppance for Frank but it just felt really weird, especially since Hawkeye was under arrest for sucker punching Frank and Frank was falsely accused... Did make me think about Margaret and her deeply fucky wucky relationships with men in power and wonder if Col Reese's seduction/assault of him is meant to parallel those relationships

God I have so many thoughts on The Consultant I need to marinate on them another day or two but really interesting ep

There was also more conflict between TrapHawk this season albeit p subtle... Little jabs, little bickerings, makes you wonder where the relationship could've gone if they'd had more time *pops on my fic writer hat*

I've long had the vibe that Trapper is one of those guys who doesn't know how to relate to women outside of a sexual context and there were two contrasting moments this season that v much validated that vibe... When he and Margaret get stuck in the supply shed together under shelling and have a charged moment and he makes a move on her, and then in Aid Station Hawkeye has sort of similar moment and Trapper asks "How was she" and Hawkeye is like "C'mon a man and a woman can have completely professional respect for each other" and Trapper goes "Pull the other one" basically... Like seeing those two episodes in close succession definitely contrasted for me

Baby me thought Adam's Ribs was stupid so I was vaguely dreading that episode but it was actually really funny and good so that was a delightful surprise lol

So many good "nasty streak of morality" Trapper moments this season ❤️ his unhesitating support for the prisoner exchange in Rainbow Bridge and his disgust over Iron Guts Kelly's fake death esp stand out to me

Final thought but Henry being praised for his humanity not his command was interesting... He's not necessarily moral but he's very humane, and that did give me Potter comparison thoughts I need to unlock and better articulate kfkfk

As far as deranged timeline endeavor this season had a lot of eps that take place over 1-2 days so only ~2 months pass on screen so insane timeline project is officially viable

it starts transactional and manipulative (exploitative, even! She Is Not Nice!). he entertains her, and she keeps him alive. she entertains him, and he keeps her alive. they clue in to each other's evil nearly instantly and go (handshake emoji) tactical alliance sex

and then he helps her kill the lolthites...

and she's like. okay. maybe this is a little bit more than just a tactical alliance. i kind of respect his prettyboy grind. maybe we're like, pals. maybe even... friends? ew. disgusting. i need to walk this back

she tries to walk it back and he's like. what the fuck is wrong with you. amma says "i need to chill" and astarion is like "why are you chill? you've never been chill. i didn't fall for you [lying] because you are chill." and he still meets her halfway in the dynamic-- tries to proactively make sure she's happy/safe, instead of just being sexy and distracting-- because in his mind, she's losing interest, and he has to dig his claws in and cling to her for dear life. and there definitely isn't any deeper meaning to that impulse. sure, gale helps him get better at magic, and lae'zel hasn't killed him for being annoying, and shadowheart heals him, but that could mean anything. those other three aren't as important as her. she's the most advantageous one to have a tactical alliance with, because she doesn't care about anyone, and he doesn't need to dwell on why that makes him uncomfortable.

while on the other end, amma is like. yeah, i don't care about anyone. except i care about you. and i care about shadowheart. doesn't everyone care about shadowheart? she's the most care-about-able girl in the universe. but also, i care about you more than i care about shadowheart. that is not a good thing. i only know how to care about killing. if i care about you, i will end up killing one of us.

but he's already dead. :^)

SO SHE STARTS TO LET HIM IN*... she decides that if they're both pretending so hard to be in a relationship, then maybe they're just in a relationship. she starts trying to meet him halfway, too. and she uses the communication avenues that they're used to. she kills people, she feeds him, she sleeps with him. and he freaks out!!! because if SHE (moral vacuum whose ability to survive is a negative character trait) is in love with him (alive) and HE (guy who was degraded past the point of wanting anything to survive, including himself) in love (finally reminded what it was like to enjoy being alive) with her (still alive) then WHO'S DRIVING THE "I'LL DIE FOR YOU" PLANE

they both panic! they start trying to give chances out! astarion sees the weird attraction amma and shadowheart have (is it romantic? is it platonic? is it motherly/daughterly? is it damned4savior?) and tries to prick that open and make it bleed. he tries to kiss shadowheart. he tells amma that shadowheart is in love with her. and he likes them both!!! he can barely handle caring about one person with whom he is actively fucking (in every sense of the word!), let alone a little goth nunlet from downtown who won't even feed him if he is starving!!!**

I really really miss her she's always been a favorite of mine, even before I knew she was the Crimson Witch (in fact before that was revealed, I loved the Crimson Witch and Signora both very dearly and then her identity reveal came out and I was so sosososooooo exited and then ei killed her. Colmbina I think is one of the few remaining Seelie with human form left (judging by how she's extremely angel themed and a lot of her design motifs line up with Seelie Courts), and also I. Am very lesbian about her. I'm like shaking her around and giggling and bouncing she's soooo silly (I hope she kills a god <3). I love her to bits

Childe. Um. I am so very sorry I have tried very hard to get into him, and as much as his character intrigues me and I find parts of him relatable, I hate his design so much. IT'S. Entirely irrational of me. LIKE. HES A GOOD CHARACTER AND THERES SO MUCH OF HIM THAT INTRIGUES ME but also he looks like someone left a tangerine on a marble countertop for like a week, and I just can't get past it no matter how hard I try :') I rlly wish I could like him tho bc so many of my friends like him and he's really popular, and I DO like his character!! (Like I REALLY like that he's a kid who fell into the Abyss and had so very many things to deal with at a very young age that he scared people so they sent him away, and he's extremely young and has so many aspirations and his government and family have not been fair to him!!!) However, his sense of style,,, bothers me. And I have always been a huge sucker for character design (grew up on graphic novels and comics, lol) it's a major player in how I choose favorites, and I can't stand his goofy little outfit. His boots are cool tho. I do adore his boots. And I like his scarf, and his shirt collar? But I just. Wish he leaned more into the reds and they gave him a more sedimentary rock-type color palette. It would suit his hair much better, and sedimentary rocks are formed by settling in water, and are often carved through BY water, so they could have used blues as an accent color (which would easily bring out his eyes) and I just. RAGH. THERES SO MUCH MISSED POTENTIAL IN HIS DESIGN IT MAKES ME SO SAD

SCARAMOUCHE THO. I love him. My little guy. My bestie boy. I have two friends who've cosplayed him at cons before (If I remember correctly?? It might just be one, but hey). I love his story, I love his character, I was a little sad when they took away his purple and made him Anemo (I really really wanted there to be a narrative about reclaiming the element of Electro as his own, not something of Ei's, (Plus Elctro grant trigger being feelings of loneliness or isolation or stark Difference from society) but the Anemo vision suits him just as well and I feel really punctuated him standing up for the Traveler in that cutscene in his quest because him choosing to defend us was him essentially choosing his freedom from the past, which I find IMMENSELY cool). Also I'm a sucker for inhuman characters. I love how he's a doll. A puppet. I love how he seeks humanity. I love his passion. i love him to bits he's so silly I'm gonna shake him around :3

Is he a horrible abusive scientist with awful morals, a vile opinion of almost everyone around him, and also tortures children/sends them into a gladiator ring against God remnant/lies to their parents/takes advantage of the nation's initial kindness/actively defies protocol and will not obey the law if it suits his own needs/leaves extremely dangerous technology around because he just doesn't need it anymore and doesn't care about who stumbled across it/etc?

I hope he never succeeds in anything again and is forced to tag along with the traveler so I can dissect his character like a lab experiment. He knows things I know. If you put me and him in a room together I will not make him better or worse, in fact, we will have a rabid discussion about Khaenri'ah bc boy oh boy do I just KNOW he's got a history up in that morally corrupt head of his. (Also I live in the USA and Sumeru's academia reminds me a LOT of the US university system (overworking overwhelming ridiculous requirements questionable morals corrupt upper board etc) so. Guy who quit school bc they were like "Ur fucking insane"(he is) kinda resonates with me!!) (also I love mad scientists I love them sosososoososoooooooo much they're SO dear to me) (Mainly because I have an interest in mortuary and forensic sciences)

(Also btw you are incredibly real for hating the vile villain side fo Dottore I completely understand!! He's like genuinely a horrible person <3)

The Fatui as an organization just makes me sad. You ever talk to Fatui npcs? Some of their quests have brought me to tears. They get treated so horribly by the Harbingers and yet they believe with all their soul and heart in the Tasritsa and I just. :'( they deserve a lot better and they make me sosad and there are side quests you do for some of them in the Chasm that make me so so emotional bc it's so clear how little the Harbingers actually care about them :(
