One of my favorite things about Pride and Prejudice is the Bennet family’s complete cluelessness about Darcy and Elizabeth. Like, if this were a tv show about the Bennets, Darcy and Elizabeth are like, the D storyline. The whole family is trying to get Jane and Bingley together, the regiment is stationed in Meryton, Mr. Collins is taking the house, Lydia and Wickham are obviously the climax, these people have a lot going on. And then, once the regiment has left and Jane and Lydia and Mr. Collins are married and everything seems resolved: plot twist! They’ve got random nobility at the door in the middle of the night telling the know-it-all sister who has been home on and off through the year not to marry the rando rich guy they all hate simply because they’re family and loyal to each other damnit and he called the know-it-all sister ugly once. 

And then, of course, they all find out Lizzy and Darcy are actually very in love and literally all of the good things that have happened to them this year are a direct consequence of Darcy loving Lizzy lolol.

Because it's just like. Darcy did everything Lizzy ever told him to, yknow? He asked how she thought people should kindle affection and she said dancing, so then he asked her to dance. She asked what he qualifies as an accomplished woman, he looked at her and the book she was reading, and said a well read woman. She said he should talk while they're dancing, so he asked about her and her sisters going to Merryton. She told him he should practice talking to people he's not already familiar with, so he came over and visited her the very next day. You know??? Do you see???? He has been shouting from the very start that he cares for her, in his own way, just as Jane shouted her love to Bingley, in her own way. And then when she was visiting Rosings and Lady Catherine de Bourgh, his own aunt, was being obnoxious and rude to her, he felt the shame of having undesirable connections just as she had in the beginning. Do you see it!!!! Mr Darcy has been ardently in love with her from the very beginning, and he's been missing the parallels between their lives the whole time!!! He's so pathetic and sopping wet it hurts!!!

i will never understand people who don't like jay ferin because she's truly the best character in riptide. i don't say that lightly, either. (chip's exactly the sort of character i always love, and bizly plays him so well, with so many nuances. gillion's that perfect mixture of comedy and tragedy that charlie always manages. so many of grizzly's npcs are so well-rounded and developed you'd think *they* were the main characters - mainly talking about people like lizzie, caspian, ollie, the ferins, etc.) but jay ferin is a wonder to behold

for the first half of the campaign - literally the first half - she's hiding who she really is. she's still brilliantly funny and interesting, but she seems not quite fleshed out - but that's because condi's doing an absolutely incredible job at playing a character who's not being herself. and then once she comes into herself and feels more confident, oh my goodness condi's so great at showing her self-doubt but also her silliness. she's such a good female character (and others in riptide don't achieve this so easily, so again i'm not saying it lightly) and it's down to how well condi writes and plays her story

as much as chip is my favourite due to personal preferences when it comes to tropes and archetypes for my blorbos, i really mean it when i say jay ferin is the *best* character in riptide. i could talk about her forever, and i do often, but i really wanted to talk about this cause it baffles me when people say she's underdeveloped or boring. she's the best one, you sillies, you just might've missed when the extent of her brilliance was revealed (aka episode 53)

the universal experience of beginning 'pride and prejudice' (2005) with the opinion that matthew macfadyen as mr darcy is perfectly tolerable, but not handsome enough to tempt you and ending it bewitched, body and soul.

My family's been watching Pride and Prejudice (1995) on repeat since I was born. Yesterday I watched it with a friend for the first time in several years. She had never seen it before. It was fascinating to see her reactions and hear her prediction because it finally struck me that, to someone who hasn't known the plot since birth, not everything is predictable. You don't immediately know that Wickham is scum or that Lydia is foolish enough to run off with him. You don't know how Darcy will redeem himself. You don't know everything.

The other thing that struck me is just how good Darcy's redemption arc is. I've always liked Darcy, but I fell in love with Literary analysis only in the past few years. Actually paying attention to his flaws and then how he systematically corrects each one is so much fun. There's a reason why this book is one of the most well known classics, and it's not just because of the romance

not to always be like this but. maybe i do need a queer korean remake of pride and prejudice directed by yang kyung hee and starring won taemin as mr darcy and han dowoo as elizabeth
