Talking to @the-insouciant-scientist about commission today (and their beautiful art!! go look at it if you haven't already and also go commission them!!!), and it got me thinking more about the creature again and I was overwhelmed with my love for her and had to sit down and doodle again

Sketch commission for @neathbound-fiends of their character Warren and @wildergrimm's Cerine! The posing was a lot of fun to figure out, hugs are always lovely to draw.

Elliott is not a man built for the cold. He's skinny, it makes his joint pain worse, he gets so lethargic and ouchie and needs to be bundled up and held close to warm him up. He tries to avoid being out in it, but he can only do so much to actually do that. He has to work, he has errands to run, etc. Most of what you see of him during the winter is things he absolutely can't put off, and you'll find him pitiful and sick as a dog

Warren is not a fan of the cold, nor is Arthur. She doesn't like when things gets icy or when it's snowy or cold out, and she also doesn't like being bundled up like would be required to actually stay warm and cozy. Arthur is a cat and does not want any clothes and likes to stay cozy and lay down by the fire

Florence is indifferent to the cold. She'll just steal something warm from clients and be dripped tf out in whatever nice coats they had, and then she's on the move. Best way to brave a cold day is to warm it up with someone else

The Surgeon hates the cold. He will bundle up and avoids any extracurricular activities he can get away with. (my personal headcanon is that devils want to hibernate in the winter, and the Embassy is host to a lot of events that gather them all together for parties or to snuggle)

Bolormaa couldn't care less about the cold. The Zee is frigid in some spots, who gives a shit. Throw on the deel and maybe another layer or two depending on how nasty it is, but he's pretty indifferent to it. He's definitely a brave the weather sort of woman

Rhoda is not a fan of the cold, but she believes in practicality. She will brave the weather, because it's what she must, but not because she likes it or wants to

Convo on discord made me think; how well does your fallen london OC react to the cold? Do they bundle up or try to brave it?

I think Warren should borrow somebody's walking stick to use as her cane. It is absolutely useless for two point touch bc it's not designed for that whatsoever but it's pretty sweet when it comes to using that to smash the shins of people who won't get out of her way. send Tweet

I can't remember if I've posted about this before but important to me that Warren found out Arthur was trans, and had herself a long think, that mostly consisted of "if Artie is a boy that used to be a girl.... maybe I'M a boy that used to be a girl" and promptly went to Elliott and announced he was transing his gender (to which Elliott said "neat c: do you want a haircut or a new name or to change clothes?")

And he had a second long think and decided he would be called Cecil, and would like some trousers and a nice shirt, and tested it out for like a couple weeks and decided actually she is NOT a boy and had changed her mind (to which Elliott said "okiedokie then c: ")

And like. that's fine. I think it's important for kids to get to test things out and decide who they are (adults also). She likes being a girl, she just doesn't really like being girly, and is pleased to discover that you can very easily do that (and is very googly eyed about Bolormaa because wow...a woman who's like a boy but also a woman and also strong and smells weird but can pick her up and gives her little gifts and [explodes and dies]. It's a hard knock life having a crush on your father's coworker who is happily married and also more than twice your age)

Important to me that people know that Warren's reflection is a tigress. She's a human, she has absolutely no business being a big cat in Parabola, but sheer force of will has made this happen. She was highly disappointed to find out that when she got older she would not magically become a cat like she was hoping, but in Parabola it's still an option

8. Would you trust them to look after: A small child? A houseplant? Your sandwich?

I would not trust Warren with my sanwich (she would eat it), a houseplant (she would forget to water it and can't see it dying unless she's touching the leaves), but a small child perhaps (she would corrupt it but would love to babysit and have a little henchman for an afternoon)

I would trust Rhoda with a sandwich and a houseplant, but I wouldn't trust her with a child (she wouldn't harm it or allow harm to come to it, but she has no desire to raise a child or be responsible for one)

I would trust the Surgeon with my sandwich (he would be mad, but would dutifully guard it like a drink at a bar), but would not trust him with a houseplant (time is a very slippery thing to Devils and I think he would let it get crispy, but he would be very diligent about it if there were no temporal slips), or a child (he isn't even raising his own, and wouldn't physically harm it, but there are significantly worse things that can happen to a child than to be harmed physically)

Florence: Fucked (up). Fiery. Furious. Forceful. Ferocious. Flippant. Feral. Flagrant.

Is your character's favorite color a color they wear often?

Elliott: no! His favorite color is yellow, but he mostly dresses in shades of green or navy, because he thinks they're the most flattering on him

Warren: yes! (kinda!) Her favorite color is pink and she wears that a decent amount of the time, but her other favorite color is orange (for Arthur 😌), but she doesn't wear that too much

Arthur: no! On account of that he doesn't really have a favorite color, and also he is naked

Florence: yes! Her favorite color is teal, and she wears that a ton of the time in her favorite suit

Surgeon: no! He will swear he doesn't have a favorite color, and he's mostly right, but if you put a gun to his temple and made him pick one, it would probably be cosmogone, which he does not wear ever

Bolormaa: yes! His favorite color is gold, and that's the color of his boots and trimming his vest, and some of his shirts and pants because he thinks it pops

Rhoda: yes! Her favorite color is a sort of pinkish red color, and she has that in a lot of her dresses, and coordinates it with her jewelry

Extremely brief descriptions of the sillies:

Elliott Marsh (the Ailing Zailor): a transplant from the Surface, who came searching for a man that shouldn't have been found. When he isn't at Zee, he is often found roaming the Fifth City, in search of friends and family and good company. He is currently the guardian of Warren and Arthur

Warren Penbrook (the Blind Urchin): a former urchin who never aligned with any gang, but while she's no longer on the streets, she still very much retains the mindset of "do what it takes the survive". She's rarely seen without Arthur, and is deeply protective over the idea of her independence

Arthur the Cat (the Pessimistic Feline/the Banded Baronet): a rotund orange tabby who considers himself the guardian of Warren, fulfilling a promise to someone from long ago. He is often found menacing the people around him, but in Parabola he's something significantly more grand

Florence Penbrook (the Scarlet-Clad Widow): an employee of Wines, and a notorious scourge upon both society and Society alike. She is a ruthless businesswoman in many avenues that are less than legal, and can often be found in places she doesn't belong. She is Warren's birth mother, but the two have no contact

Dr. Joseph Valentine (the Infernal Surgeon): a time worn devil who spends his days engaged as a surgeon to the elite, and a professor of medicine at Benthic College. He is known both for his brusque and sardonic manner, and his nigh prodigious talent. Rumors abound that he steals souls, but those who voice them are rarely seen again

Bolormaa Otgonbayar (the Scar-Striped Cannoneer): a zailor in charge of the munitions on deck, who is one half of a notorious brawling duo in foreign parts. Rumors exist that he's a spy for the Khanate, but it's difficult to determine whether these are fabrications or a passing of vital intelligence

Rhoda Westing (the Mycological Milliner): a milliner whose works are enjoyed by the upper echelons of Society, known for her use of the Neath's abundant fungal life in her creations. She is fiercely defensive of her reputation, and will protect it by any means necessary

I'm going to presuppose for the sake of this question that they are all being held at gunpoint and forced to play Minecraft if they wouldn't otherwise

What would their Minecraft house look like?

Elliott: a simple little house in a village, made out of cherry blossom wood because he likes the pink! Garden attached

Warren: cheats enabled, she's got the pimped out house built out of solid gold and diamonds and emeralds. The classic "I just learned about Creative Mode and am using every difficult to find/obtain item to build the ultimate home". It has burned down several times

Arthur: homeless

Florence: dirt hut, because who give a shit

Surgeon: his house is a veritable fortress, redstoned out the wazoo and a one stop hub for everything you could need. He has carefully crafted it to be the Objectively Perfect house (in his opinion)

Bolormaa: dirt hut, because he's busy exploring

Rhoda: one of those houses that use the sitting dogs to make cool roof tiles. She likes the patterns on the clay tiles, and would work them into the design for sure

Thinking about Warren and Florence and their relationship, and was talking to Amber about it last night and like. waugh. Warren getting older is weird for everybody, but I think in addition to the regular flavors of teen angst, she also has some added layers. She's disabled and queer, but also, and very specifically what I was thinking about, she is SO much like her parents in a way that's haunting

She's got her dad's blond hair and crooked smile, and people that knew him know that she's his kid just looking at her. She carries the ghost of him in her features, whether she wants to or not

But she is also so, SO Florence. The freckles, and the nose shape, and the attitude, and the bold recklessness, and the headstrong nature. She is the spitting image of her mother, and she can't stand it. She doesn't want to remind people of her father, but at least he's dead and most people don't really know or remember him. But Florence is still running around getting arrested and causing mayhem and whatever else she's doing. And people know. People know that she's Flo's kid. She can't see it, but she's been informed that being blind is the only reason a person wouldn't be able to know that they're related

And she hates it!! She's haunted by both her parents and one of them isn't even dead!! They live on through her against her will. She's chased by the spectre of a family she doesn't consider herself a part of and wants no association with (not even because she wants to distance herself from the association of everything Florence has got going on, but because she hates her)

There's a million more posts about their relationship but I'm stopping it here but rest assured that I'm thinking really hard about them

🌕 - If this oc was an animal, what kind would they be? Elliott: a rat, or a dog

Warren: a kitty cat :3

Arthur: n/a since he IS an animal. He does have a humansona floating around somewhere, though

Florence: maybe a weasel or a spider, though she fancies herself a fox

Doc: a bee is too obvious, as is a goat, so I'd say potentially a

Bolormaa: a bear, or a shark

Rhoda: a peacock

🐰 - How huggable is this oc? Elliott: 10/10. Far and away the most huggable of my characters. He isn't necessarily the most comfortable to hug, he's so thin and lanky and usually kind of layered because he's chilly but that doesn't soften his frame much, but he radiates such personal warmth and love and is so tender and excited to be touching someone else. If he coulf live pancaked to a loved one 24/7 you would find no one happier on earth

Warren: 4/10. She doesn't really like being touched by people, or feeling like she's being smothered or restrained like huge often do. When she's in a gracious enough mood to allow one, it's more that you're hugging her, she doesn't really hug back. She's in that kinda scrawny weird teen phase

Arthur: 8/10. He will not allow hugs very often (looking over a cat and wrapping your arms around it is not often a favored activity), but if you're somebody whom he's fond of, he is happy to sit in your lap and purr while you pet him, and will happily sit there until you're done and convince him to move. He's a big fat tabby that purrs like a freight train and is exceptionally soft when he's actually been washed and brushed out recently

Florence: already answered!

Doc: 1/10. No <3

Bolormaa: 7/10. He's not really much of a hugger, aside from the like amiable sort of gentleman's half hug around the shoulders that threatens to take you off your feet, but can be coaxed into a proper one during tender moments. He's warm and strong, and you can feel the muscle beneath his clothes when he envelops you in the embrace

Rhoda: 8/10. She doesn't hug often, mostly because there are always eyes on her, but in more private moments, she enjoys the contact and company of being embraced. She's soft and warm and always smells nice and her hair is so silky

Elliott is actually my only Surface born! He misses it terribly. He misses where he grew up in Virginia, and often finds himself wishing he could have just one day to sit under the Sun again. He didn't appreciate it enough while he had it. He misses gardening. He misses the rain, the stars, the clouds. He supposes you never know what you have until you've lost it. Granted, his life up there sucked. His family was dirt poor in a little speck of a farming town, and he was orphaned pretty young, so it was mostly just him and his brother. He rarely talks much about his childhood
