Hey I'm watching the new defunctland on kid cities and he mentions that in wannado city there was a pretend vet with realistic animatronic pets that kids could roleplay with
I was wondering if you possibly have more info, pictures or videos of these animatronics? I know it's a long shot but still I'm curious
I actually went to Wannado several times as a kid, but I don't remember the vet; it might have been added after I stopped going, though.
It was sponsored by Frontline and Heartgard, possibly others as well, and the animatronics were likely professional training dummies. The hospital and dentist sections had actual medical dummies, so I'd assume the same for the vet.
Here's a brief clip of a dog animatronic breathing!

Me, watching the new Defunctland video: it is insane that there was a lawsuit about who owned the intellectual rights to kid city attractions, because at least two or three years before Ciudad De Los Niños existed, we had KidsTown in Plano, Texas, an idea so similar, that when I recently saw that KidZania (which I believe is the same company as Ciudad De Los Niños) existed in Frisco, Texas (literally one city over from Plano), I was kind of confused because their website acts as if they originated the idea.
Me, getting to part three of the video: oh, so they’re just straight-up wrong about owning the idea. Got it.

So, apparently there was a theme park in florida at one point called Wannado City, essentially it was a kids sized city where kids could do “jobs” (aka fun semi-educational experiences) and earn play money, which they could spend to go on rides, get snacks, all sorts of stuff, you could even save your money and spend it on your next visit, but, the thing is, they had over 100 jobs, including, jury member, anesthesiologist, pathologist, clown, and what I’m most interested in, fucking BAIL BONDSMAN, if you don’t know, a Bail Bondsman, is a the legal term for a BOUNTY HUNTER, banks will hire Bail Bondsman to go and track down people who skip on loans and bring them into the police, AND YOU COULD BE ONE IN A FAKE CITY DESIGNED FOR FOUR TO TWELVE YEAR OLDS! Holy Shit, I wish I had this place near me as a kid

Still thinking about the new Defunctland video and I am happy that this time, Defunctland managed to UNITE Latin Americans, Southeast Asians, AND older Americans through ONE video.
The Kid City video felt like Defunctland saw that some of his non-US audiences noticed that his content, while amazing, are very US-centric (though not his fault), and decided to cover a theme park trend that came from outside of the US (and is big outside of the US) this time.
I know that it's probably coincidental. He probably intended the new video to be ABOUT the American theme park chain Wannado but during his research, discovered that the concept of Wannado originated in Mexico and through that, found out about La Ciudad De Los Niños (part of the origin story of Wannado -- which came from Mexico, and is big in Latin America) and Kidzania (which took off in Asia), then....well, the video now is about something that non-US audiences can reminisce for once!
That's MAGIC and now i feel glad that now I can follow Tumblr's Defunctland reaction posts without feeling left out for not being American, for once.
It's also interesting how some Southeast Asians latched onto discussions about La Ciudad De Los Niños with Latin Americans in the wake of this video too. Truly, Kevin Perjurer has ignited a small Latin American-Southeast Asian solidarity moment.
On a more humorous note I see a number of Americans going "wait we do not have this in the US" (since Wannado closed in 2011) and I'm here like "THE TABLES HAVE TURNED, AMERICANS. WE SOUTHEAST ASIANS CAN HAVE OUR DEFUNCTLAND MOMENT NOW"

wait, i have a better question: can a city be false? not in the sense of a potemkin village, since those weren't even fake and even if they were it was for a fleeting trickery.
can a city be false?
I think so, it would depend on your definition of false. If you're saying a city is built on false values or a lie, then I would argue most North American cities are ideal candidates.
If you're saying a city is false in that it's ingenuine, then I would point to the specific example of Niagara Falls, Ontario, which as far as I can tell only exists to cash in on the spectacle of it's namesake landmark.
Maybe Wannado City? The indoor playground where kids can roleplay being adults? It's a fake city, but it's also not claiming to be a real city. Does a false city have to claim it's a real city to count for your question?
Cop City is the closest I can think to something that is called a city but is not functionally a city. If you ask me, Cop City is Wannado City for people who wannado fascism.
I guess you could also say a city is false if it's called a city but is functionally a town (big shrug).
But if you're talking about literally false, that the city is not real, then I can only point to fictional cities like Wakanda or New Donk City.
Fun question tho.

an incomplete list of literal fever dreams i have had based off the media i consume:
got first COVID vaccine, binged shadow and bone, dreamed about dying in the queen’s lady plague
got one of the boosters, started house of the dragon, dreamed about getting anon hate via raven for supporting the wrong war criminals
caught a cold, started the new season of house of the dragon and watched the latest defunctland video, dreamed i had to go hide helaena’s children from assassins in the ruins of wannado city
