I feel like here is the only social media I can post about this on without having fear of getting harassment because I feel sad that a famous person I cared about has died. I started watching Jonas Mekas’ films over the last two years and he’s become one of my favourite filmmakers since. The sensual and sublime simplicity of his avant-garde and non-narrative style touched me so much just from the types of feelings his images and music/narrations were able to resonate. It’s not a style for everyone, but fuck me, I just feel such a blow now that he’s gone. He had a very prosperous and seemingly fulfilling life, as he died at the age of 96 and has a very full filmography, regardless I just feel really sad about his passing, but perhaps I’m just far too sentimental about these types of things. This film called ‘WTC Haikus’ brought me to tears when I seen it first, it’s one of the most beautiful pieces of cinema I’ve ever seen, and it means the world to me as do some of his other films, rest in peace Jonas Mekas.
