update (kinda?)
you might have noticed this already, but i've been recently uploading things to AO3 staggeringly without posting about them here.
the reason? cross-platform posting everything everywhere has rly been overwhelming me as of late (especially for reaper's bouquet, since it has so many short chapters). same goes for lmtt, wrct, my oneshots, etc etc. ;;_;;
i love these stories soo soo much and i dont want to get overwhelmed by them. cus then they all just sit in my folders gathering dust. so i guess my main message here is: my AO3 has the most recent and up-to-date updates for my fics!
however: i will try my best in due time to post everything over here too! it just might be some time after it goes up on AO3! i really like the idea of posting art along with the writing, so i hope to do that soon for all my fics that are missing them!
i really hope this all made sense TwT
#writing stuff#updates#lmtt#wrct#trb#the art train has also been crashed for a hot minute#but sometimes i get a cog or two from the wreckage#i rly want to organize all my things#organization makes me so happy but it is also so much ajdfkldj#at least rn!!!#college and work and art balance is hard to find#if u have tips i am all ears

Here's a DJ Set from me from 15 years ago today. This was recorded February 19th, 2009. I played some Techno and Tech House on WRCT 88.3FM in Pittsburgh on my show "We Have Explosive". Finally finished the tracklist after not being able to identify 2 tracks in this (had to play bin cuts for the first 30 minutes). Still sounds good 15 years later. ENjoy.

Polygon Rainbow - Approaching Eternity (Harmonious Discord)
8DPromo · Polygon Rainbow - Approaching Eternity (Harmonious Discord)
On the heels of radiantly hot remixes of Patchen and KiloWatts for Harmonious Discord comes the episodic journey into the vibrant color palette of the multi-format artist and creative Polygon Rainbow. Hailing high from the pacific northwest, Christopher Bourland’s Polygon Rainbow project fuses an extra-dimensional visual world with the same rich textures baked into an audio selection that resides somewhere between electronica homages and futuristic synth/vaporwave excursions. This five-track project shows the broad mastery of melodic spaces this symmetrical, angular-visioned hero has under his control. "Approaching Eternity" sweeps the listener away with rich pad textures and dulcet melodics. Transforming and evolving with manipulated vocoder trills and rising arpeggiations, the selection forges right to the steps of eternity. "Inner Workings of External Processes" is a Commodore computer concerto wrapped in a lovely blanket of lo-fi texture. Late 80’s bass lines and tightly programmed drums deliver a nostalgic warmth worth consuming. "Reconstructing Corrupt Memories" retains these warm feelings with fun excursions into stringed and bowed instruments, all with a cascading polyphony of synth layers. "Unraveling the Code" amps up the energy with a rinsed-out, melody-forward selection that grows into a precisely crafted drum and bass banger with dancing bass tones. Lastly is the disenchanted lullaby, "Conversations with the Void." Laden with seductive synth pillars and progressive pitch and frequency excursion, this closer implants in your brain for the long stay, whispering: “can you hear me.”
Sunshine Jones (Dubtribe) – “I really love this. Very refreshing and connecting.” Hector Rodriguez (Underscore Recordings) – “Really interesting release! Enjoyed the variety of tracks and sound palettes for each.” DJ Firefly (WRCT 88.3 FM Pittsburgh) – “Infused with plenty of synths and amazing creativity!” Simon Kirk (Stag Beetle Radio Show) – “Futuristic, fabulous deep electronica.. Approaching Eternity stands out for me. Magic!” Jon Fugler (XLNT radio show) – “Some real gems here - Reconstructing Corrupt Memories just edging it in a strong field of wonky delights.” DJ Nova (Rodon FM 95) – “It all builds to a contemporary electronic blend where electronica, synthwave and chillwave which transmits a beautiful today's future soundscape.”

No Glory by @obsidianpen
The Dark Lord didn’t move at all when he finally did speak. He kept Harry’s eyes locked under his, pinned down with little more than a stare. His next words, spoken loudly enough for all of his followers to hear, would be the declaration that ripped Harry Potter’s world to shreds.
“A change of plans.”

It’s Friday Night Horror Host Marathon on WRCT
Yay! It’s Friday night, and that means criminally overgrown children like me get to stay up late and watch WRCT’s Horror Host Marathon.
They never print a schedule, but they’ll be showing a monster mish-mash of old movies from 9pm til 8am Central. You never see all the shows every week, but you often see Midnight Monster Hop, The Late Dr. Lady, Saturday Night Fright, Midnight Mausoleum, Penny Dreadful’s Shilling Shockers, The Dungeon of Dr. Dreck, and The Basement Sublet of Horror, with Gunther Dedmund (pictured above). White Rose Community Television (WRCT) is a free Roku channel you can add from the Roku Channel Store. Install it, make sure you click on Channel 18 in the app, and there they are, streaming for your guilty pleasure.

Damian Higgins was honing his craft as a young man while attending the University of Pittsburgh and spinning records on air at WRCT Radio station using the handle “Diesel “ there was a local graffiti artist that tagged his work Diesboy. I know Damian must have loved going to the (Dirty O ) The Original Hotdog 🌭 ship and being Italian loving Parmanis brothers (fries & slaw) on the sangwhich as well. After leaving Pittsburgh in the late 90s both Damian & Jason would move to Philadelphia. Jason would take the executive chef position at a prestigious Jewish country club known as white manor while continuing to produce dnb music. Jason would then start taking extensive time off and headed to Bristol England. Attending dnb & jungle raves in warehouses in London and Bristol. There were four particular record stores that Jason would buy as much vinyl as possible to mix for his drum and bass sets. At the same time Damian A.k.a. dieselboy was finishing his time as a DJ on air at WRCT Jasons legendary punk band (Thin WhiteLine)of Pittsburgh was being interviewed and featured multiple times on WRCT and performing at the University. Afterward we would go the Chiefs cafe on Center & Craig to drink. It was the alternative punk rock bar that was very close to the electric banana which was Pittsburgh‘s answer to New York CBGB’s.To this day it’s a head scratcher that I can’t remember meeting Damian back then. There’s even been moments when talking to others who worked at WRCT and The University of Pittsburg’s radio station WPTS where Jason had been interviewed and had Dj’ed that I have found out we had mutual friends.Thin White Line also played several years for the University of Pittsburgh’s back to school party outside the student union. One of Thin white lines later bass players (Toby Houser) aka (DJ Farmer Tea) had a DnB show on WPTS and we threw DnB raves in warehouses in East liberty.Jason Bakes aka @bc9dnb was with The Pittsburgh Punk band (Thin White Line)from 86-96. In the 90’s Jason headed for London to work with Chef Marco Pier White in 99. Finally here’s a pic of @dieselboy & @bc9dnb in 2018 👊 #dnb #neurofunkdnb #pghdnb #usdnb #wrctradio #universityofpittsburgh https://www.instagram.com/p/B3uVfwQJfNE/?igshid=jb1f5xji61m0

Fair Play Meeting at Tuff Sound Recording | September 17, 2017
Summary Notes | Moderators: Heather Kropf (pictured), Christiane Leach & Shay (not pictured). This event had no panelists.
PLUS +
What Works About the Current Scene?
Culture of support - you don’t hear about it much until you leave
Everyone knows someone who knows someone - feels connected
Not competitive or less competitive, depending on genre
Not competitive so that you can experiment and find your own voice
Cost of living is reasonable to build a life in the music business
Many collaborators available — wide variety of musicians
Everyone is in everyone else’s band — musicians are shared
Easier networking than some places
Venues and the scene are built on the skill of the person running it
People can come together to build something
Many opportunities to play regionally
Musical variety
Heritage puts a flavor on all the sounds coming from the city, especially from not having certain opportunities
Artsburgh as a hub
WRCT - accesible
Music in the parks — love the programming
Solar powered shows
Producer meet-up at Tuff Sound
Studio scene cross pollinates a lot
Chill studio scene, not too cut throat
A variety of studios have good pianos
Variety of studio sizes and engineers
Foodie scene has begun to collaborate with live music
MINUS -
What’s Not Working About the Current Scene?
Music is so connected to the bar industry and drinking alcohol culture is stronger than culture to listen to the music
Audience enthusiasm is lacking
Culture not changing quickly enough
Market is oversaturated and people aren’t excited to see/hear music
Responsibility of the artist to put on better shows
Pittsburgh artists are too complacent — exception doesn’t match performance
Not checking for good sound
Live performance vs. a SHOW
Missing industry piece: performance coaching
People need to see other acts
Not enough jamming
Flip side of non-competitive is complacency
Are venues supportive?
Shadowlounge is gone and no replacement
Venues are perceived to take advantage of artists, promotions are reliant upon artists only, live music makes the bar money
No venues that are ladder up and out of city
Soundperson competence
Lack of commitment except by unique venues to commit to build a live music scene
Awesome bass for an electronica show
How to hire a sound person ?
Shows feel random
Low pay for sound people
Where does the money come from to support the musicians?
Bad parking
Bad public transportation — Uber/Lyft works but not for larger instruments
Studios that force you to book a block of time vs hourly rate
The feeling that the less you invest the less the studio/engineer will put in the effort
Blurry producer/engineer lines
People don’t speak the same language of creating in the studio
Writing as a live performance vs writing as a recording — how you record it makes it good
Dude culture in some studios that don’t believe women know things, especially technical things
No depth of bench to find session players for the nuances of performance and production styles
No awareness of all the session players available who CAN do it quickly and professionally
Trouble with budgeting for recordings
Players maybe don’t get enough work/practice/experience in a particular genre to be good enough for session work
Engineers could do better to respect women - don’t mansplain, don’t be a dick, don’t be a creep, and listen better
Leaking of players with ambition/talent to other cities
NEEDS & IDEAS
How Can We Make it Better or Easier?
Tax credits for musicians and artists, subsidies
Hosting all ages venues not relying on alcohol
Get state/county to invest in music (ex. Georgia/Atlanta)
10% of legislation of marijuana to the arts
Grant for monthly event, or weekly events
PDP - partnering with organization and being at the table
Reversing “Enticement” law from city code
School to Pro musician pipeline - music education, broadly
Busking - a pro-busking government
Hire a consultant for performance coaching — open up to musicians to participate, help elevate the craft and expectation
Social media, performance, paid to write songs. See CMOAA Event for example
Cohesive organization for Music. See Pittsburgh Film Office as example
Food truck style! A mobile sound truck. Subsidized rental truck for musicians.
Pop up concerts on city lots, purchase lots
Rate your club/venue - survey monkey survey
Database of musicians and artists interested
Start a new musicians union
