“Got you in my sights.”
Last but certainly not least, Boone 🐺. It was a bit of a struggle trying to decide how I wanted to make Boone look more werewolf like without getting rid of his recognizable appearance 😵💫.

Good morning! This is just a warm up, not canon to the series.
Anyway — bark, woof, awoo
It’s a cool fall day when you nearly die.
Johnny’s run off into the woods barking - not his scary bark but his excited bark. You’re worried that he’s gonna get his teeth in some poor local wildlife and go hurrying after him, boots unlaced.
Of course it’s hopeless to go chasing after a wolf-dog even running at half speed, but you cant stand the thought of him coming home with a dead bunny or something. So off you go, clomping through the trees, calling for your big dumb fluffy butt to come home.
But it’s not your Johnny that comes trotting out of the trees. No, it’s an even bigger, wolfier looking dog. Creamy white fur, honey gold eyes, and odd black markings around the face like a skull. You instantly know he’s not like your goofball, a little less human-friendly, perhaps more feral. Looks at you like he’s trying to decide if you’d make a decent meal.
Is someone breeding them and just.., letting them out?? Some weird poorly thought out attempt to reintroduce wolves to the UK? The thought makes you frown, praying that you won’t come out here one day to find some poor pups struggling in the wilderness.
For now though, you’ve got yet another gorgeous animal in front of you.
“Well, hello,” you coo, softening and smoothing your voice. His ears tick forward. “Look at you, handsome thing. Have you seen my Johnny boy?”
The dog tilts his head - your first indication that he is familiar with humans, recognizes the tone of a question. You hum.
“Alright big guy, would you like to come with me to find him or are you doing your own thing?”
He doesn’t respond (of course) except to make a little “ruff” noise. You consider him for another moment, then decide he’s not being aggressive and it’s safe to continue your search.
You turn and continue on the path, calling for Johnny. Don’t get far before your new friend sweeps in front of you, blocking the way forward. You make a noise as you stop quick, nearly losing your balance to avoid stepping on his paws.
“Oh you big jerk,” you huff. He instantly starts pushing at you, big shoulders pressing against your stomach as he shoves a big, wet nose into your neck and face, focusing on your mouth. You roll your eyes and gently push his nose away.
“Knock it off,” you grumble, trying not to laugh. “You wolves are so rude. You don’t need to do that to smell me.”
He moves on to your clothes, all the way down to your crotch. You’re ready this time though, taking a big step back and guiding his face up by the chin.
“No.”
He snorts and shakes off, looking almost annoyed.
“Oh, yeah, how dare I not let you sniff my junk?” you scoff, rolling your eyes. “Grow up, you big baby.”
A deep, raspy grumble starts up in his chest. You ignore him, patting at the thick muscle of his shoulder.
“Yeah yeah, you’re a big scary boy,” you joke. “Ya gonna bite me? Show me your big pretty teeth?”
When you reach for his face he takes a step back, ears flicking. Looks almost shellshocked. You finally break, giggling as you croon baby noises at him.
“Oh, poor boy, did I spook you? I’m sorry, baby. No, no you’re very scary. Very intimidating.” You start scooting around him, amused how curves around you almost like he’s afraid you’re going to touch him. “It’s okay, buddy, I just need to find my boy. I’m not out to get you.”
As if on cue, Johnny comes bursting from the trees. He barks when he sees you, then almost comes up short when he realizes the other dog is there.
You become acutely aware that you’re not all too sure how Johnny will respond to another dog - especially one so close to you given his protectiveness. You instantly move between them, calling his attention.
“There you are, Bonnie Johnny! Where have you been?! Naughty boy, you better not have eaten anything fluffy.” His ears go back, a little whine starting up. He ducks his head to let you grab at his muzzle, inspecting him for anything gross. “I do not feel like wrangling you to brush your teeth.”
Luckily, he seems clean. Whatever had him so excited, he must not have caught.
Movement behind you catches your attention, the other dog loping closer. Your eyes bounce between them, watching body language for any aggression or hostility. To your relief, Johnny seems almost excited by this new friend - the other one… well, he seems a bit more subdued, but lets Johnny lick at his chin and bump into his side.
“Okay, ready to head home, baby boy?” you ask, giving Johnny’s collar a gentle tug. “I have to start making dinner.”
He whines, turning those big blue eyes on you and positioning himself behind the other dog. You groan.
“Johnny, really… I don’t know if I can handle two of you. I don’t even think he likes me very much.”
As if to spite you, the other dog sits and leans in, licking at your hand. And damn it, it’s cute.
“Alright, hold on, let’s just see if…”
This time, the other dog lets you touch, feels around his neck for a collar that unsurprisingly isn’t there. You feel around his shoulders too, hoping for that tiny bump that means he has a microchip, but nope.
“If I have a nickel for every time I found a wolf-dog in the woods…” you sigh, turning back for home. “It would be two nickels but it’s weird that it happened twice.”
When you notice both pups stalling, you whistle sharply.
“Come. It’s getting cold.”
Johnny instantly bounds ahead with excitement while your new companion is slightly slower, staying just a bit behind and to the side of you so that you can see him from the corner of your eye.
Back at home, Johnny leads the way inside. The strange dog looks around curiously, sniffs at a few spots. It’s then that you remember Johnny marking the house his first couple days and notice that Mystery Dog is also unaltered.
“Hey.” Both dogs turn to you. You point at the new one sternly. “If you pee on anything in here - anything - I’m dying you pink. By god I’ll do it, there are dog safe hair dyes.”
You get a sneeze for that and he walks away with disinterest, but at least he keeps his leg down. You’ll take it.
Dinner is interesting, no fussing or fighting over food from either of them. When they’re done, you retire to the couch, Johnny happy to follow up until he sees that his new friend isn’t coming as well.
He starts yipping, bouncing, bowing, trying to get the new one to follow. You’re amused up until Johnny nips and the bigger dog growls, showing teeth. You plant yourself instantly between them.
“Hey.” You look the new dog in the eye, get into his space and back him away from Johnny. “No the hell you’re not.”
The new dog stares, eyes locked on yours, ears swiveling. You don’t back down, watching and looking waiting, still bodily between him and Johnny. Until finally his ears go back and he sneezes, laying down.
“Good.” You soften your voice, sigh. “Good boy.”
You offer your hand. Get a sniff and a resigned lick, then scratch at your new boy’s ears.
“You be nice, big boy. Everyone in this house is mine. I take care of everyone.”
His eyes do a weird thing then. You’re not sure how to describe it, combined with the way his head tilts. But you just chalk it up to Weird Dog Things and finally return to the couch, an oddly subdued Johnny clambering up with you.
“You can join us, honey,” you call to the other dog. “You’re welcome up here if you behave.”
He doesn’t take you up on it for awhile. You and Johnny settle in for your usual nightly shows. And then, about an hour later, movement draws your eye. The Mystery Dog, standing at the edge of the couch with his tail down, ears neutral.
Earlier drama forgotten, you smile at him.
“Hi there,” you chirp, “you want up? C’mon, bud. Up.”
He hops up with surprisingly gentleness, picking his way around your limbs and Johnny’s. He ends up crawling over your dog and settling half on top of him, and half on top of you, his chin settled between Johnny’s stupid perky ears. Johnny seems thrilled so you laugh a bit.
“What good boys,” you coo, giving them each a scratch and receiving a kiss in return. “Alright, this isn’t so bad.”
You fall asleep there, already trying to come up with name for your new pup. Maybe Phantom.

Nico request where you let one of his teammates babysit or the new baby comes to meet the team?
A/N: Dad Nico.... *soft sigh* The sweet content we need after a rough playoff Saturday ( at least for me. Congrats if you had a better day 🤪) Here she is...Nico's daughter in What My World Spins Around AU.
Word Count: 1.1k
No warnings with this one.
The metal door bangs closed behind me as I enter the New Jersey Devil’s practice rink. I am weighted down by the carseat that holds my daughter along with a backpack stuffed to the brim with anything and everything I thought we would need. My eyes find Nico who flies along the ice with Jesper Bratt. They’re approaching the net in front of me. Nico passes, then received the puck back, tucking it into the top right corner like it’s so easy. His grin is electric as he peels into the corner by me. He glances up, doing a double take at me. He glides along the zone closer to me.
“You okay?” He asks through the glass.
“Yeah.” I respond with a big smile. I’m fine. So is our daughter, Lucie. I just needed a change of scenery that wasn’t our kitchen, living room or bedroom.
“Walk this way.” He points to my left.
I follow the boards along to the bench. I am acutely aware of how on display I am as fans and players alike watch
Coach Ruff, who I wouldn’t consider to be much of a softy, blows his whistle, skating towards the bench with the rest of the Devils following.
“Hischer, who is this?”
“My baby!” Nico exclaims. The guys cheer loudly, sticks tapping against the ice, hoops and hollers making my cheeks spread wide. “And her hot mama.” I accept a kiss from my husband then put Lucie’s car seat on the boards for the guys to see her. She’s the real star of today’s show.
“Hi sweetheart.” Nico murmurs, reaching down to unsnap her seatbelt straps. She startles in her sleep, hands swaying in the air, a soft puff of a noise coming from between her little lips. The group of sweaty, tough hockey players literally swoons in front of me. They all skate closer until the whole team and coaching staff is surrounding us.
“Um, sorry I didn’t mean to distract you.” I chuckle, scanning their faces. No one, including the gruff head coach, seems to mind.
“We were about done.” Nico tells me, tossing a wink as he works Lucie’s arm out of the straps.
“Damn. Now I want another.” Brendan Smith moans. “Never got a daughter…” He trails off, looking at her decked out in lavender. Her head has a light pink headband that accents the thick, dark hair she was born with.
“Look at her face.” Erik Haula groans as her little lips pucker while she starts to awaken again from the commotion. “We probably stink.” He jokes. I nod my head in agreement.
One player, Jack Hughes, peels off from the rest of the group, beginning to flick pucks down to the far net.
“Too cool for your best friend’s baby?” Jesper Bratt asks him, slapping his breezers with the blade of his stick.
“Nah. Held Sweet Lu half the night at dinner yesterday.” Jack had come over with a bottle of expensive tequila for me, beer for Nico, and demanded baby snuggles as payment. I don’t think he was even fully in the house before he took her from my arms.
“Uncle Jack is her undisputed favorite.” I tell Jesper. Jack’s eyes catch mine and I see the softness there for our daughter. He winks at me, then is off on his own.
The rest of the group takes peeks and some of them begin to peel off, letting others get a better look at their Captain’s new world.
“Hey Hisch, how is your baby so cute but you’re so ugly?” Miles Wood asks with a shit eating grin on his face, give her foot a gentle squeeze. Nico rolls his eyes, grabbing the car seat from me and skating down to the door of the bench.
“Because my wife is prächtig.” He answers, skates clacking on the mats as he walks towards me. “Gorgeous.” He murmurs a translation, leaning in to kiss me. I wrinkle my nose at the smell coming from him.
“Woof.” I cough, adjusting to breathe through my mouth. He puts Lucie’s car seat on the bench, using a BioSteel towel to wipe off his hands and face from the sweat dripping on his skin.
“Yeah, stinky.” He chuckles, reaching into her car seat and pulling her into his arms. “Wanna take a spin, Lulu?”
“Slow, Neeks.” I nervously bite my lip.
“Mhm. She’s safe with daddy.” I smile, knowing that’s the truth. Everything about her will always be protected by her dad… and his 19 teammates who still look entranced by her little face bundled against the red of Nico’s jersey.
As Nico twirls around the ice with her, the Social Media Manager, Erin, approaches.
“Hi, would it be okay if I took pictures of them for the team socials? I can avoid anything showing her face.” We haven’t shared pictures of her full face on social media and haven’t decided if we ever really will. As parents, we just want to keep her safe.
“Um, yeah that’s okay with us.” I say.
“Thank you! They are so cute out there together.”
She maneuvers around me, holding her camera up and clicking along. Nico notices, looking at me. I give him a head nod that it’s all okay with me. Lucie eventually wakes up completely, whining softly to her dad. He skates her back to me, noting her tightly closed fists.
“She’s hungry, babe.”
“Yeah, it’s time.” I nod, taking her back from him.
“Ohmygosh.” Erin murmurs, tilting her camera to show me. Nico is holding Lucie out in front of his face. Her little arms are stretched to the side as he spins her slowly. Jack is next to Nico, his cocky smile wide as the two players laugh at whatever face Lucie is making. Nico’s face is everything in that picture. It’s like Lucie is the only thing in the world that exists. I know that look well. It’s been directed at me daily since we met.
“Can you send that to me?” I ask her.
“Oh definitely. There are a ton of good ones. Let me edit them a bit and I’ll email them over. Thank you for letting me do this. Devils fans are so in love with your family… respectfully.” Nico and I laugh.
“We’re pretty great.” He grins directly at me. There’s that look again.
“Hey, do I get a turn with her now?” Jack asks, slowing to a stop in front of me.
“Um, I have to feed her then, yes?” I turn to Nico who shrugs like it’s fine with him.
“Yeah. Let Uncle Jack take her. Remind him of what happens when you’re too desperate to wait.” He tosses me a wink.
“Hischier.” I scold him, cheeks flushing red as I adjust my backpack on my shoulders. “For the record, I wasn’t the impatient one.” Nico laughs.
“Something about short, black dresses.” He snaps his teeth jokingly at me,
“Something about desperate NHL captains.” I shoot back.
“Something about married people.” Jack mumbles with slight disgust, then skates off to rip more pucks into the net.

WOOF WOOF WOOD BARK BARK RUFF GRERRR
"but I didn't shave" so what?
aot men + you happening to not have shaven. ft. eren, onya, connie, armin and reiner.
contains: smut, unprotected sex (wrap it before you tap it), cunnilingus, fingering, pet names (dollface, mami, darling, mama/ma) onya slaps you on the thigh once. if I missed anything let me know
MDNI smut below
onyakapon
onya firmly believes grown men don't care about that and well, he's a grown man.
"wait, onya I didn't shave-" you tried to tell your boyfriend. instead, you got a slap on your thigh. "move your hand mamas" he said pushing away the hand you were using to try and cover your cunt. "but-" "Move it ma, I aint gonna tell you again." as soon as your hand moved onyakapon buried his face in your cunt. you gasped as he took a deep inhale before eating you out like he had been starving. his tongue ran all over your folds before he placed a few well-placed licks on your clit. two fingers made their way into your hole as he continued to make a mess of your clit until you were cumming on his face
"acting like I ain't a grown man, now turn over so I can make her cream again"
Armin
he did not spend his life studying biology for you to think that was going to deter him
"Armin I didn't shave" you tried to explain but the blonde-haired man didn't care. armin’s fingers found your clit and rubbed small circles into it. "I didn't either, that never stopped you from trying to swallow my cum now did it darling?" he asked teasingly as he slowly fingered your sopping cunt.
"That's different," you tried to protest but his fingers grazed that spot in you that made your eyes cross. "Min!" you squealed as he continued to abuse that spot in you. "see, not shaving aint stopping you from making a mess now is it darling?" he asked as you creamed around his fingers
eren
first of all, he's the one paying for your wax appointments. second of all, you finna tell that man he can't have some of his pussy? crazy cause that's not happening
"Ma I ain't playing these games with you" Eren growled into your ear. you got him hard, and sucked him off but would not let him fuck you because you didn't get waxed last week like you were supposed to. "but it's hairy ren" you tried to argue. "Ma, I don't care, shit ill stop paying for that shit if this is how you acting," he rolled his eyes and sat you on his lap. his dick rubbed against your pussy and you whined. "you're making a mess baby," he teased angling his dick to hit your clit. "ren!" you moaned before lifting your hips so that the next thrust would send his dick straight into your cunt.
Connie
you crazy if you thought that man gave a fuck in the first place.
"mami, lemme see her," Connie said looking at you with big eyes. he lay his head on your thigh, the only thing between your pussy and his face being your already soaked through panties. "but I didn't shave con," you responded feeling embarrassed. "mama I do not care, shes pretty either way," he said pulling your panties off. you whined as he pressed a kiss on your mound. "pretty as ever mami," he whispered grabbing his phone and opening his camera. "keep your legs open so I can show you how pretty she looks mami"
Reiner
Another grown man. He actually expects it not to be shaven
“Dollface, you're gonna deny me perfectly good pussy because of something as silly as shaving?” he asked spreading your legs and pressing his hard-on right up to your clit. “I appreciate the thought but good pussy is good pussy with or without the bush,” he said grinding up against you. “But Rei, it's not pretty,” you whined. “I’m a grown man dollface, and a lil exploring never deterred a grown man before,” he said sliding your panties off. It didn't take long for him to bully his fat cock into your messy pussy. And by that time you had forgotten about the fact that you had shaven long ago, not that it would have ever mattered to Reiner.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
i stopped writing other smut to write this, its unedited and idek whats going on. whats crazy is that armin is the love of my life and his was the shortest. n e way, tell me what yall think ill be writing the shit I put off writing

just the anon ask abt more pack!steve dribbles and I’m here to give some INSPIRATION maybe some dad!pack!steve and him teaching his pups how to hunt and stuff and being all cute and other dad stuff 🥴
Panting in the warm summer evening, a trio of Pack pups tussled with one another, tangles of limbs and grabbing at one another fur, ears, tails, squealing when one grabbed a bit too hard, too sharp. Having heard enough Steve gave a sharp growling bark, all three of them pausing mid movements, and lowering to there bellies, the tips of there tails wagging for forgiveness.
The Alpha studied them for a moment, all three lined up, trying to stay stock still till a deer fly started buzzing around, and they broke formation, trying to snap at it. Steve couldn't help but rumble in laughter, pushing to a stand and with a nudge of his muzzle, he pushed the three of them down the trail, and broke off to pace along the edge of the woods, the trio lining up behind him like they were his ducklings.
Looking behind him, he whisked his tail once in encouragement, dropping his muzzle to sniff at the trail, and all three mimicked him, circling around and around till they caught the scent he was following. All three gave over the top sniffs and started to yip excitedly, barreling forward to crash into Steve. Leaping over the trio, he continued on, all three now with noses to the ground, following there targets zig-zagging pattern till they came to a sandy path leading to a hole between tree roots. Steve immediately lowered to his belly, lowering into the sunburnt grass.
The pups just about passed by him, but he snagged the lead pups scruff and pulled him into hiding, tucking the youngster between his paws, the other two crashing half on and half off the Alpha, watching intently to the hole in the ground. Minutes passed, and every now and then one of the pups would whine with impatience, which Steve gave a lap of his tongue across the ears to sush the youngster, a nibble of there fur to lull them from there boredom.
Soon enough a head poked out, long ears tilting back and forth, and a buck rabbit emerged, moving to his two legs to look around, all three pups stilled, watching intently as he gave a few tentative hops to emerge further, before lifting again to look. His nose twitching for any scent of a predator, his whiskers wriggling back and forth, changes in the breeze bringing him information.
Steve had placed them in the right spot, hidden in the dry grass, downwind, and much to the pups excitement, able to see the burrow. This buck continued onwards, and more time passed, more rabbits made there way out, spreading in the field bellow there burrow to graze. Once it seemed they were all out, Steve nudged at the pups to go for the chase. Showing them the way to slink forward, test for the scent, how to get as close to one as possible. One of the pups coiled to spring, shooting out of hiding to soon, and the other two followed suit, chasing after the flash of tails against the dying daylight, and heavy thumps of the rabbit's hind ends against the ground, warning the rest of the warren.
Steve was content to watch the three youngsters chase after the rabbits, knowing the chances were slim to none to catch one unless it was truly caught by surprise or the rabbit was ill. Rabbits were built to escape them. Their speed was much faster then there's, and more powerful hind ends enabled their bounds to cover great distances. The pups all three dove nose-first into one of the escape routes rabbits built, digging furiously, three squirming hind ends sticking up in the air, and Steve tilted his head, watching as one by one, each pup pulled out of the hole and staggered back over to him, flopping on its side to cool off in the cool dirt they dragged up.
After a short break, Steve picked up the littlest pup, who instinctively curved to be carried, woofing for the other two to follow. It was almost dark, lightning bugs were bouncing around them, and far off crickets and peepers started the twilight song. Bringing them back to the Pack compound, each pup wearily split off to go home, and Steve loped towards his own home, circling around the house and inhaling deeply to find you, having successfully worn the pups out.
You were sitting on the edge of the dock when you heard the tap of nails on the wooden boards, and the shaggy summertime coat of your Alpha. He brushed up next to you and laid down, resting his head on your lap. Your fingers trace his ears and bury into his ruff, scratching lightly. “Uncle Steve, have himself a good time?” You chuckle lightly as a light thump of his tail sounds against the deck. Your gaze lifting from your mate to watch the dying light fade off the lake, and the stars start to peep out, much like those fireflies scattered in the field earlier.

my neighbor torino
Notes: My Neighbor Totoro/Princess Mononoke AU? Fusion? It’s one of those. Loosely incorporates Shintoism. Tengu!Sorahiko, except it’s a loose interpretation of tengu (rather than a basic winged demon, I decided 天狗 should be taken literally. So. Winged wolf tengu. [I was talked down from winged puppy, a la The Last Guardian design]).
*Because Nana has no Sorahiko to help balance the work and give her perspective, Nana is swayed by Toshinori to keep Kotarou.
**Kotarou refers to Sorahiko as Puppy-san at first because he’s still babey and hasn’t determined the difference between wolf and puppy yet.
Word count: 1,440
//
The first time Shimura Kotarou runs off into Mount Torinomune’s surrounding forest, his solo expedition leads him to bump into a big fluffy tail, lazily stirring the forest floor. It is like moonlight, silver and pretty.
After a long week of tidying their new home, Toshi-nii had agreed to let Kotarou explore Mosu Village alone. Toshi-nii is very tired and wants to nap. Kotarou understands, and is generously taking himself out of the house so he doesn’t annoy Toshi-nii. Mosu Village is small and safe; it sits on the side of Mount Torinomune, just off the highway. Unlike Musutafu, the only things surrounding Mosu are the woods: giant, mossy, and inviting.
The meadow is easy to run through; the scattered boundary of the forest less so. Even though the trees at the edge are thinner, their roots breach the surface of the soil like stumbling blocks.
He doesn’t mean to move beyond sight of Mosu Village, but this makes it all worth it.
The tail is soft to the touch, and it flicks upward into Kotarou’s face when he buries his hands in it, giggling to himself.
When Kotarou looks up, in addition to more fluffy fur, he sees a mass of pale brown feathers. Wings, tucked close, not a crooked feather out of place. Kotarou considers his options and scrambles to climb in-between the wings; he’s careful not to step on the tail.
There is a space for him. He crawls to it, belly flat, and settles there, arms cushioning his chin. Kotarou rises and falls in a steady fashion. The sleeping animal radiates warmth, like it’s been absorbing sunlight all day. Abruptly, Kotarou yawns.
Two things move. Upon squinting, Kotarou understands that they are triangular ears.
“Cat?” he wonders out loud, still sleepy.
The ears prick upright. Slowly, with great care, there is movement at the front. And Kotarou sees the pointed muzzle, the square black nose, the piercing pale brown eye of a—
“Dog!” Kotarou squeaks, propping himself up on his elbows. “Puppy!”
Kaa-chan always said they couldn’t have a puppy. The apartment was too small, and Kotarou was too big. Where would the puppy play, she had asked Kotarou lightly. Puppies needed big outdoor spaces.
This was a big outdoor space. Toshi-nii said it himself!
The puppy’s shoulders roll as it stands; Kotarou clings to handfuls of fur, gleeful. The ears flatten back, and the puppy keeps trying to turn its head to look at him. Oh, but he has to be polite! Whenever kaa-chan took him to the dog park, he had to be very quiet and politely introduce himself to the dogs.
“Oh no,” he says, almost to himself. Then, a little louder, Kotarou says, meekly, “Puppy-san, I am very sorry to bother you. May I please come down?”
The puppy freezes. But it actually lowers itself down and rolls its shoulders again, and Kotarou slides to the ground.
Then the puppy turns, wicked fast, and Kotarou is staring at the biggest puppy in his life. He wants so badly to play with it.
“Hello!” he yells, too excited at first. Seeing the ears flick back again, Kotarou winces and tries in a softer tone, “Hi! My name is Shimura Kotarou, and I would like to play with you!”
Kotarou sticks out his hands, palms up, and he stares beseechingly up.
“Please play,” he begs under his breath.
The pause is enough to worry Kotarou; the puppy is unblinking, staring at his outstretched hands like it doesn’t know what to do with them. Usually, the dogs sniffed his hands and maybe even licked them. He wonders how big this dog’s tongue would be.
Then there is a soft rumble, like the mountain’s pebbles vibrate in harmony. Very delicately, the puppy bends its head and presses a cold damp nose against Kotarou’s shirt. It pushes him back a step, then pulls away, watching.
He thinks that means yes. The other dogs barked and showed their teeth at him if they didn’t like him. But Kotarou doesn’t know if he can play fetch with a giant puppy; he doesn’t have super-strength.
Some dogs liked to keep walking. Maybe he could talk and walk with the puppy all the way back home.
The puppy rumbles again. Kotarou realizes he’s just said his thoughts aloud, and beams at this success in communication.
“Let’s go then!” he chirps brightly. “Um, um…” Kotarou spins in a circle; all the trees look the same. Which way is home?
There is a sound like a great big sigh. He’s amazed to find the source of it from the puppy, who is gazing at the sky like he wants to howl.
“I live in Mosu Village with my Toshi-nii,” Kotarou informs the puppy. “He said that he’ll always find me if I call out. Oh! I can call out!”
He inhales deep, like Toshi-nii taught him.
Rather hurriedly, the puppy bumps his nose against Kotarou’s chest. Kotarou is startled out of the scream, and then he’s trying to keep his footing as the puppy continues to shove him in one direction.
“You know where Mosu Village is?” he asks, delighted.
The puppy grunts.
“You understand me!”
It grunts again. Kotarou gets the message, and starts walking of his volition to the way home. He also continues chattering.
“Kaa-chan said that animals have different languages, and that they don’t really understand our language, they just learn to connect sounds with actions, but I think that’s just how I learned Japanese, so why wouldn’t they know what I’m saying?”
The puppy nudges him away from a stretch of green, the leaves bundled in threes.
“Do you fly, puppy-san? I’ve never seen wings on a puppy before! Wow! They’re so pretty, puppy-san! Kaa-chan can fly too, but that’s just part of her Quirk. Are your wings part of your Quirk? A Quirk makes you very special! Toshi-nii says that Quirks have many uses, but that our hearts are the most powerful things around…”
When the puppy huffs, Kotarou frowns.
“Toshi-nii is right!” he says loyally. “He says when we believe with our whole heart, miracles happen! And I believed with my whole heart, puppy-san, and now I’m finding my way home!”
There’s another huff.
“Do I talk too much? Kaa-chan says that a fast talker like me means I’m born to be a, um,” he can’t really remember what kaa-chan had said, but she was laughing when she said it, so it must be good, “a man in a suit!”
Kotarou gets another nudge, this time urging him to climb a huge root. He gamely gives it his best, stretching his arms up to no avail, but then—Kotarou shrieks with delight as the puppy shoves him to the top of the root, a quick burst of movement that has Kotarou scrambling to his feet again.
“Wow!” he chirps. “Wow, wow, puppy-san! Thank you so much!” He claps his hands together and bows, like Toshi-nii taught him to at the local shrine.
Then Kotarou sees something skittering across the length of the root, diving for a knot in the wood, except it’s not a knot, it’s an opening. He gives chase, confident in the wideness of the surface.
“Puppy-san, a lizard!”
The puppy makes a noise, a noise that sounds awfully like Toshi-nii when he catches Kotarou doing a dangerous thing (he looks both ways on the street, okay, he knows when there are no cars coming). When Kotarou’s shoes slip on the moss, he yelps and flails his limbs—and then he’s dangling in the air, his sleeves pulling uncomfortably under his arms.
“Puppy-san?” His voice quivers.
There is a distinct rumble, and it sounds a lot like a growl. But the puppy is carefully climbing over the root and delicately moving Kotarou so he doesn’t smack into any leaves or branches. And then Kotarou is deposited on the ground, stunned into being quiet until the puppy lays down on its belly and impatiently, but most definitely, woofs.
It is a very bad woof. Like the puppy has never heard what a woof sounds like, but is trying its best to imitate it.
Kotarou gets up. He asks, “Do you want me to ride your back?”
Instead of another terrible woof, the puppy jerks its head towards its wings. Kotarou beams and scrambles to obey.
“Thank you, thank you, thank you,” he chants, finding handholds in the long silver fur. Eventually he scoots his way to the thick ruff, where the fur is heavy enough that he can bury his legs and hands in it.
The puppy rises, slow. And then it begins to move.

Fall crisped the air, leaving Evie grateful for the coat that Cora had pressed upon her when she'd announced her intention to go for a walk. It was early yet, the sun having barely crested the horizon, and the world was still but for the occasional birdsong and the sound of Woof's and her footsteps. Even he was subdued, seemingly content to pace at her side instead of ranging afield as was his wont, and she buried her fingers in his ruff, grateful for the warmth and company.
"It's been a while, boy, hasn't it? Just you and me?"
Woof looked up at her and let his tongue loll, wiggled his back end in apparent agreement before he pressed against her, close enough that her thigh ruffled his fur with every step. She scratched his shoulders fondly as they walked—ambled, really, with no destination in mind. Paths unfurled and they followed them, wound through fields and copses, just a woman and her mabari.
By the time they stumbled upon the pier, the sun had fully appeared, and Evie shaded her eyes against it as they stepped onto the wood planks and approached the pier's end. The sun glinted off the water like flakes of gold, shifting as it lapped against the bank. She crouched at the end, trailed her fingertips through the water and shivered at the biting chill. "No swimming today," she said, and behind her Woof barked his agreement. She turned with a laugh, knelt on the damp wood and patted her thighs. He didn't hesitate to crawl into her lap—as much as a mabari could fit into anyone's lap—and she wrapped her arms around his neck and pressed her face into his fur.
He smelled of outdoors and dog, soothing in its familiarity, and she closed her eyes as his tongue slobbered over her neck. Growing up, she'd never have believed it if someone had told her that some day she'd happy like this; even when she'd rebelled against her parents' expectations, she'd had no concept of what possibilities life could offer, that she didn't have to bind herself to the world of salons and paper smiles that did little to conceal fangs. The family she'd found, the family she'd built herself, was more than she could have ever expected, and it was perfect.
Woof licked her neck again, then barked and wiggled away to bound along the pier with a scrape of claws. It hadn't been a warning bark, so she didn't bother opening her eyes, instead turned her face to the sun, imagined she could feel its warmth despite the wind that chilled her cheeks. She listened to her own breath, the rippling water, the soft tread that approached to stop next to her. She leaned in as a warm body settled against her side, cuddled under the arm that wrapped around her shoulders. She only opened her eyes again when Woof attempted to wiggle back into her lap, and then only to give him a chiding look. He whimpered, ears drooped in a way that was patently crocodile tears, and squirmed closer inch by inch, until he was draped over Cullen's lap with his broad head across Evie's thighs.
"Don't worry, you're still her favorite."
Evie glanced at Cullen as he patted Woof's side, and rocked her shoulder against his. "It's not a competition. Can't I love both of my boys?"
Cullen pressed a kiss to her temple, nuzzled the hair above her ear. "Is that what we are? Your boys?"
"Of course." Evie scratched behind Woof's ear, stopped only when Woof's hind leg began thumping the wood. "Mine." She'd never had that before, and couldn't help but repeat, "Mine."
"Evie," Cullen began, only to trail off. A ragged exhale punctuated the silence, and Evie turned a concerned look on him, lips parted to ask him what was wrong, only to find a small box in front of her nose. Cullen looked everywhere but at her, even as he slowly opened the box to reveal the ring she'd suspected it would contain. It sparkled in its white satin bed, the weak sunlight caught in its facets and spun into sparkles. "I'm already yours. Will you be mine?"
Evie stared at the ring until its glimmering hurt her eyes, then moved her gaze to Cullen's face. He looked at her at last, his expression carefully neutral, but she knew him well enough now to see the hope and terror that warred beneath the façade. She touched his hand, still aloft with the small box, touched his cheek, curled her fingers around his chin and turned him to face her enough that she could press a kiss to the corner of his mouth, lingering and not enough. She kissed the side of his jaw, the corner of his mouth again, the tip of his nose, the sensitive spot in front of his ear, and it still was not enough. She sought his mouth, but paused with no more than a hairsbreadth between them, shared his breath as she stared into his eyes, caught by his amber gaze. "Yes," she breathed, then slid her hand into his hair and closed the distance between them. His lips were a brand on hers and she made a soft sound as she opened to him. Time stretched as they kissed, without end or meaning, until she pulled away just enough to murmur, "I will."
Cullen's smile, soft and somehow shy, was something she would never forget. It lingered as he pulled the ring from box and caught her hand, as he pressed a kiss to the tip of her third finger before he slid the ring over it. She didn't even pause to admire it before she caught his hand, pulled it to her mouth to nestle a kiss into his palm, then pressed it against her cheek. "Mine," she said again, and suddenly she couldn't help the smile that stretched across her face, so great that she felt she might split in two from the force of it. "We're going to have to elope."
"Elope?"
She laughed, a high, bright sound even to her own ears, giddiness that bubbled from her lips. "Unless you want a large affair. Between our friends and your family, there's not much middle ground." She laughed again at the dumbstruck look on Cullen's face, and snuggled closer to his side even as she used both hands to scratch the sides of Woof's neck. "Either way, we've already got our ringbearer."
Cullen wove his fingers through hers to join in scratching through Woof's fur. "He should be up there with us, wherever it is. He was our serendipity, after all."
Evie leaned in for another brief kiss, then bent enough to be able to blow gently against Woof's ear, smiled when it twitched. "I’ll never forget how you looked the first time I saw you.”
"Facedown and flailing in the grass?” Amusement warmed Cullen’s voice. "I never was much good at first impressions.”
"Nonsense. You were perfectly charming." Evie giggled when Cullen shot her a skeptical look, then eased Woof's head from her lap and got to her feet, reached a hand down to Cullen. "Memorable, at least."
Cullen took her hand, held it as he rose. "I'll take memorable. It got me you."
"So it did," Evie said, and tugged Cullen's hand to rest at her waist. Woof leaned against her leg and she smiled down at him as she wove her fingers through his fur again, caught by the flash of the ring there. "Thank you, Cullen. For being you."
Cullen chuckled and pressed a kiss into her hair. "You're the best part of me," he murmured, so softly it was almost lost in her hair, and then there was only the sound of lapping water, the soft scratch of Woof's fur, the thunder of her pulse. The sun continued its climb overhead and cool breezes pinked their cheeks, but the only thing that mattered was that moment, that perfectly encapsulated moment when it was her and her boys, and all was right with the world.

It’s time for another fantastic fall weekend in Memphis, including a ton of Halloween-themed events. (Read the full list of pumpkin patches, Halloween parties, and costume contests here.) Here are the five things you won’t want to miss, plus a few extras. But first, be sure you didn’t miss anything on the blog this week: – Memphis Really Likes To Celebrate Halloween (Updated) – How To Make The Most of RiverArtsFest 2019 – 365 Things To Do In Memphis #272 and #275: RiverArtsFest and India Fest – Don’t Wait Until The Day Before Thanksgiving To Decide You Want To Volunteer OK, here’s your weekend guide: 1. Celebrate this holiday a little early this Friday night at Crosstown, and be sure to check out the parade and festival at the Brooks Museum coming up on November 2. 2. Memphis Bigfoot Festival + Monster Mash, Memphis Made, Saturday, 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. + , free, all ages Celebrate our big friend in the woods with films, evidence, and more Bigfoot-themed fun at Memphis Made’s taproom in Cooper Young. This street festival rivals Cooper-Young Fest with its own selection of fine arts, local music, live artist demonstrations and hands-on activities for all ages.
