@fasciinating | for a new adventure
Tumblr media
Space was an equally beautiful companion and a terrifying one not to be underestimated. Whenever comfort was found in the mundanity, a wrench was thrown in it.
It had been two weeks since their last mission, and the USS Enterprise was drifting in uncharted space at a pace that set everyone on edge.
Jim had already stopped Gaila from snapping at a younger ensign she was supposed to be training while they tweak and fixed one of their commlinks. He was now watching them carefully as they interacted and noticed the moment something shifted in the air between them. The set of their shoulders stiffened, and the Orion's fingers danced across the console as she caught Uhura's gaze, nodding to her. He watched the Lieutenant press the tips of her fingers to her earpiece, and close her eyes for a moment in concentration.
"It's a distress beacon. I think." She finally shared, once she was ready. There was something hesitant in her voice, lacking all the surety it normally did. "It's being picked up on an old channel though. I think we're only catching it because of the repairs."
"Can you tell where it's coming from?" Jim asked, but his tone is subdued - something in her expression when she turned to face him made him regret the question. It settled like a stone in his gut in an inexplainable way. It was the way the color had drained from her cheeks, and the solemn press to her lips. The way her eyes sought Spock's over Jim's shoulder versus keeping his gaze. "Lieutenant." He prompted, again.
"Captain...It's saying it's the USS Kelvin."
Tumblr media
If she keeps speaking, Jim catches none of it, struck suddenly as if he's been tossed into a void. There is no sound but the ringing of his own ears. He's vaguely aware of the activities on the bridge, of the crew going through their usual protocols when it comes to picking up a distress signal, but ultimately, they all look to the captain for a decision. The captain who hasn't moved since the source was potentially identified and is currently white knuckling the arm rests of his seat.
Finally, he manages one word, barely audible. "Impossible." Then, he too looks to the one person who always grounds him. Spock. "It's impossible, right?"

She followed his gaze around the things that she's collected in her years here. She's attuned to the way each individual item pulls his calculative attention. Eliot gets the idea that if they had time, he would find himself lost here in the dusty shelves; and she at his side, equally asking and answering questions. The thought is curious and it makes her dark eyes light, and her own lips curve into a smile. Have we met? She wants to ask, wants to explain the swirling sense of Deja Vu swirling in her veins. But instead she stretches out her long legs to slip off her stool, moving instead to shuffle things into her bag. It was battered and worn, but she'd had it through all of her adventures. To ditch it now would be like ditching the trust stuffed animal a child clung to in the middle of the night when the darkness was at its most terrifying. It was absolutely a safety net - and she would be damned if she left it behind. The last thing to slip into the depths is the box holding the tiny bauble. There's a hesitance until it's out of sight, out of mind. Eliot blinks, then turns back towards the Vulcan emissary.
Tumblr media
"Shall we, Mr. Spock?"
Unlike others, Spock is not perturbed by the notion of silence. He watches and waits through Eliot’s deliberation, following the touch of her fingers to her neck. It discerns his invitation was a difficult concept to digest. Of his knowledge of human history, in their behavior, he thinks he understands.                         It is no small request. Vulcan’s mere existence on this planet has been cause for discord enough. Earth had not been prepared for much of the universe, too young for the stars beyond their immediate orbit. But as he might have estimated, curiosity is a formidable opponent for any intelligent mind. Spock does not fault her for this either. Should their positions be reversed, Spock is certain that he would have elected similarly.                         “ As I understand, your work is incumbent of your people’s history through self-expression or artifact. ” A museum is a timepiece of any species’ identity, he could say, showcasing snippets of culture and their very selves for both better and worse. When Spock thinks to the various possessions that Eliot has worked to keep safe in his awareness, he sees war portrayed through abstract painting. Marbled biology through sculpture. Occasionally, there are examples of human discovery, too. And right now, that, looks to be an entire galaxy inside diminutive jewelry. “ Boredom is idealistically impossible in this environment. ” Spock takes one tall step to stand beside her. He looks at the box, “ As risk is inherent in all things, Miss Finch. ”
Tumblr media
Glancing up at her, a small curl takes residence at one corner of Spock’s mouth, “ Negative. This, will suffice well enough. ”

Warnings: implied past starvation
The masters rode at a walk, and Plaything was grateful for the pace. He could keep up well enough, but as the morning turned to afternoon his feet became sore. He had no shoes, not even footwraps, and the stone streets were not forgiving.
They moved gradually out of the city, into the fields. The masters chatted with each other, and Plaything could pick out a few words he recognized. Maybe their home was close by? Plaything had seen maps before, but couldn’t read the words. He only knew the sea was to the east, and that his old master lived far from it.
They were headed west, judging by the sun.
They were taking him out of the country.
By sundown, they were well past the fields and had entered the woods. The masters turned off to the side of the road, to a well worn campsite. They tied their horses to a weathered post and they began to graze. Plaything sat down heavily and examined his feet. They were raw, small cuts littering the tops, and they felt so so sore.
The weather was cooling now, and one of his masters started a fire in the crumbling stone circle. The other began to unload the horses. He grabbed what must be their bedrolls and three sizable satchels. He sat them near the fire, and came back over, towards Plaything.
He looked him up and down. The master tutted at the state of his feet, and reached down to untie him.
He led him closer towards the fire, the warmth finally reaching Plaything’s skin.
“Sit.”
He sat.
The master called to the other, and they spoke for a minute. One of them pulled some cloth and a knife from his bag. Plaything was handed one of the satchels and a flask.
“Eat.”
Plaything peered into the bag. It held several apples, a smaller bag of jerky, and a whole small loaf of bread. The flask had water.
“You will carry these until we reach home.”
Plaything was no stranger to stretching out food.
“Yes, master.”
The man's lips stretched into a thin line. What did he do wrong?
“No,” he said. “We bought you for someone else. Do not call us ‘Master’ again.”
Cryptic and weird and bad.
“Yes, sir.”
Plaything began to eat an apple. He watched as the men continued to set up for the night.
One of the handed Plaything some strips of fabric and a blanket.
“Wrap your feet.” Thank the gods.
The men cooked and ate their dinner, which looked much more interesting than Plaything’s. They tied his ankles together and one wrist to a nearby post, with enough length to lie down and stay warm.
The men fell asleep quickly, but Plaything’s mind kept him awake.
Who did they buy him for?

@corvidamned continued from HERE
“Luckily for us, those ‘gods and angels’ can be killed with a little green rock then, no?” A joke. Perhaps not the most opportune of times to allow such a cavalier thing to slip from the lips, but it was a bit of the old ‘River normalcy’. Familiarity, even in the smallest of doses, keeps things from becoming awkward or worse: undesired.
Tumblr media
“I’d drink to that though, if I had one on hand, of course... The whole demons thing. They’re real, but sometimes the most foul of them tend to wear human skins, rather than horns and forked-tails, and-...” Stop. Realization pauses her hand mid-raise, before it can ghost against savaged skin. Instead, River grasps the clasp at her throat; and soon she’s covering the sulky spud in a caul of frayed red. If only a little green stone could slay all demons too.
“Your deal. Did it spell the end for the monster who tried to tie you down?”

- Anis Rusli: We're Going on A Trip -
In our favorite rocket ship! Zooming through the sky~
My parents often wonder why I like to take pictures of blank places. That's because its my backlog of images to use for my little edits. You see it with the main trio, you see it with [the Hoodlites] Its my favorite thing to do when I know the perfect image for the job.
This peculiar sofa was placed on a cruise ship that I went to some time ago. It was a cool experience and what better way to make it a cool experience than to let snake girl join us by the ship's reception zone.
Whatever the snakes are talking about, its all Greek to me. Only Anis knows what those other voices are saying and judging from how she looked. Its definitely some inside joke.
