taking y/n out to drink on his birthday was definitely a mistake.

it has been thirty minutes and hanbin has now lost him. he's been looking everywhere for him, fucking hell why did hanbin #1 have to go all out for y/n's birthday and rent this huge ass house!?

i mean— of course y/n deserved to have an all out birthday but hanbin might as well be stuck in a circus with how many people are around and how none of them look like y/n.

after thirty minutes of walking, asking, searching, and smelling the horrible breath of drunk college students, hanbin considers giving up, until he hears the familiar voice.

"hanbinie! my lovely!" a drunk y/n giggles as he stumbles towards him. hanbin catches him as he looks like he's about to fall. "i missed you, i was looking for you with the puppy looking boy".

"you mean gyuvin?"

"pfft—!" y/n breaks into a boisterous amount of laughter. hanbin stares at him like he's crazy, a small smile coming to his face as he notices how different y/n looks compared to when he first arrived no more than four hours ago. "yeah, that's what i said! the puppy boy!"

"y/n your drunk".

"no i'm not" he slurs his words, he giggles again as he sees hanbin's face. "you can ask my husband, lee seunghwan".

"lee seunghwan?" hanbin chuckles, raising an eyebrow. "your married to lee seunghwan?"

"yep!" y/n nods like it's common knowledge. "we live on a farm and we have seventeen cats!"

"is one of them named after hoshi?"

"yeah!"

y/n sighs dreamily, humming and doing a victory dance as if he's actually married to seunghwan. "we raised all of them together too, true story".

"that's nice, who were you with before again?"

y/n hums. "uh.. hanbin numéro uno, my biggest hater hao, woohyun oppa, puppy boy, and um uhh… edward cullen?"

hanbin laughs at those words, already being able to identify whose who with those descriptions. "also man in love! i don't know who he's in love with but he was there for a moment!"

"um.. okay, let me call your brother, he'll know what to do—"

"you don't have to!" y/n whines, a pout coming to his face. "i'm 21! i'm practically an adult! you can't call my brother!"

y/n pushes hanbin away and crosses his arms, stomping his feet for a moment. "y/n—"

"i don't wanna go home!" he shouts, pouting like a little kid who just got told they had to leave the playground. "take me to my husband!"

"your husband is probably trying to dive off the roof right now.."

hanbin jumps, immediately being met with the sight of kim taerae beside him. taerae does not look that drunk, which makes sense, because he has to drive junhyeon, jeonghyeon, and junghyun home after all of this is over.

"what happened to him?"

"i don't know, he spent like- a whole hour attached to seunghwan, i think he was actually convinced that they have seventeen cats together and live on a farm together".

"and i'm pretty sure he named one of them after his seventeen bias".

"i wanna kiss someone" y/n randomly states, and hanbin takes in a deep breath. "we should go find my husband, his name is lee seunghwan, we have seventeen children together".

"i thought you said cats".

"cats are children".

y/n states that like it's a fact. hanbin quickly grabs onto him before he decides to run away. "okay, your not gonna kiss anyone, y/n, you're way too drunk for this".

"what?" he pouts like he's sad once again. "your jealous i won't kiss you, hanbin numéro dos?" he asks, grabbing onto both of his arms and staring up into his eyes like he's so enamored by him.

"y/n—"

"will you turn into a frog if i kiss you?"

taerae snorts, covering his mouth with his hand as the words are so funny yet are asked in such a serious manner. "i'm sorry, hanbin" he says in a giggle. "i have to— i have to go find junhyeon, i have to take him home but, uh.. have fun".

"can i kiss you hanbin numéro dos?"

"no, you're too drunk to know what your saying".

"so if i was less drunk would you kiss me?"

y/n is now staring at him like he's the love of his life, and though hanbin would like to kiss him, he doesn't want to kiss y/n while he's like this. he knows y/n isn't being honest, for fucks sake he thinks he's married to lee seunghwan and living on a farm with seventeen cats, hanbin won't kiss him like this.

"y/n, your not getting kissed right now".

"aww" y/n whines, surprisingly pulling hanbin into a hug. "i'm 21, i need to have my cinderella moment".

"maybe later y/n".

y/n pulls away from the hug, staring at hanbin for a moment before he starts tearing up. the older immediately panics, watching as y/n now has tears running down his face.

"i— what.. why are you crying?"

"you don't like me?" he asks in tears, a small pout coming to his face as he stares at hanbin again. "i thought you liked me.."

"hey! don't cry!" hanbin exclaims, wiping y/n's tears with his thumb. "i— i do like you! i just can't kiss you while your this drunk, y/n, your mind isn't in the right place!"

y/n giggles, though still emotional. "i can't believe you decided to break my heart on my own birthday" he pulls hanbin into another hug.

"i didn't break your heart".

"you did! hanbin numéro uno would never do that!"

"what about the seventeen cats?"

"they're still my kids, don't be mistaken".

"okay y/n, let me take you home" hanbin states, and y/n does something between a nod and a shake of the head. he simply lets hanbin take his hand as he stumbles with every step.

"can i say goodbye to my husband first?"

"your husband who you just tried to cheat on with me".

"shut up i just wanted to see if you would turn into a frog!"

plus junhyeon went down so low ⁉️😨

no more haruto seowon and woongi to light up the mood as well☹️☹️ they were honestly so talented its sad that they dont at least get to perform the final round.

Boys Planet - 1

Honestly, what a shit show. Were they competing to see who is the worst? Because this can’t be possible. One of the Masters said that the production team did a really good job at finding trainees, like where?

I’ll mention the battles and pick a favorite, then I’ll say my current top 9. This is not in order of preference, it’s just the order I remember them.

Burn it up – Wanna One

No one really stood out to me, the vocals where bad at some points. I can’t really choose one for this.

Danger – BTS

I really like how no one really knew this sing. No one knows dark era bts and I feel so especial because I do and that’s my second favorite album by them. Moving on... Both were kind of bad too. The i-land boy, I Chan (I think), he messed up baaaad, I was cringing while watching. Don’t remember much of G-Group tho be honest, so I would say that K-Group was better because SeungHwan did a great job with the little he had.

Aju Nice – Seventeen

I’m sad again, I didn’t like either performance, I feel like K-Group was slightly better because of their main vocalist was really good but the other boys was really not it, I do know that he was in bad condition but still… idk

Hot Sauce – NCT Dream

Let’s start with the fact that I hate this song, with passion, so I’m biased into hating the performances. So I say neither, tending a little bit to K-Group because Hanbini was sooo good

Love Me Right – Exo

This might seem impossible, but I really thought that Hui was gonna fuck this up for his team. He was trying too hard, too much. What he wanted to do didn’t match the song, at all. Though as whole K-Group was more consistent the performance, both vocally and dance wise, Jay’s high note was better, it fit the song better.

Kill This Love – Blackpink

This fight was unfair, K-Group didn’t stand a chance. They did a great job, Gun Wook worked them to be really powerful, with big movements but it was a lost battle. Keita really did a good job of putting this team together, he chose them for this song in specific. K-Group did their best but the result of obvious. I feel like this team should have won the Studio Choom and M!Countdown stage but it is what it is.

Back Door – Stray Kids

ha…. I am basic ass bitch sometimes... Ji Woong had one line and a dream, minimum effort, maximum achievement. The struggles Yujin went through also touched my heart. Tae Re is such a good vocalist. And the guy who was center, he did a good job too. I think it was funny how everyone was sort of trying to mimic Hyunjin’s facial expressions, both in K and G groups.

And here's my top time (against you're about to see how basic I am) .

This is my last vote. It had some changes since I started to vote because I didn't have a good top 9 in head. So yeah. I like how this looks, I feel like this could be a great group. Some of you may argue that it doesn't have many global trainees but if we have to be honest, once the final gets here, Koreans will vote for the Korean trainees only so we will get lucky to see even 3 global kids here.

And here's a not so popular opinion:

I WANT and HOPE mnet will manipulate the final group. Koreans vote with their ass and global fans vote for the meme kid.

Koreans made Lee Da Eul, who might have a sweet voice when singing in his tone but is terrible in every other way, 6th in the ranking (he dropped to 13th in the announcement that was made today and honestly that's still too high for him). And because of what? Cause he looked cute in his profile photo, one of the few who looked okay.

And global fans? Are even worse because they dont even vote for someone whos cute, they vote because "ah, hes funny". Their voting for Do Ha, a really nice boy if you ask me, but, much like Da Eul, can't really sing and can't really dance. And the other My House boy, the one in red, he also isn't good but keeps getting votes because he seem funny.

And we can argue that the industry needs to change, people have to sing in their key and so on, however for most boy groups, their main vocalist sings very high. Chen, Jungkook, Eunkwang, Jay B, Jongho, Sungmin, Taehyun, DK, Heesung they all sing very high. I can't even think of a main vocalist who couldn't reach those high notes. And the dancing, although I am the first to admit that 4th gen is too focused in dancing, needs to be good, it's one of the essences of kpop.

So mnet, manipulate away. Make me hate someone, make me love someone. Actually manipulate the results (in a way that people can't tell that it was manipulated, still having X1 war flashbacks). I don't care, I want a good group, whatever it takes

Am I the only one that doesn't really like S.Hanbin... Like, he's super talented ngl but idk, there's just something about him that just makes me not care for him. I'm gonna be honest I kinda want him to drop in the rankings. Even to just 3rd. I'm just tired of seeing him in P01. I don't want to seem like I despise the man but if he debuts (which I think we all know he probably will) I don't think I'll be able to stan the group. 😭 Haruto Kuanjui and Seunghwan getting eliminated though has to be a crime. The people I really care enough about to stan the debut group if they make it are Taerae Junhyeon and Ricky. And even then I have a lingering feeling that they won't debut. I've lost nearly all my motivation to watch the show anymore but I gotta keep supporting my boys JunRae ಥ_ಥ

prompt: “i dreamt about you last night”

he was just a stranger passing by you on the street. both of you were heading in the opposite directions - yet as your eyes connected for a brief moment, you felt the feeling of longing settling inside of you.

his eyes felt familiar to you - as if you saw him from somewhere before. as you walked throughout the city as your paths had crossed this stranger, you couldn’t help but stop in your tracks as you passed each other.

“y/n? are you in there?” your friend walking beside you asked. you shake your head out of the trance you were in a gave them a tight smile “yeah sorry, you were saying?”

later that night as you lay in bed - you couldn’t help but think of the eyes of the stranger that you passed by earlier. although there was barely an encounter and it was in total just a couple of seconds of eye contact - you were unable to get them out of your mind.

“what did they look like again?” you try to recall as you think back to their face. as you recalled the brief encounter, you think back to what his eyes looked like as they were the only thing you remembered.

rubbing your hands over your face out of frustration, you let out a loud groan. you continued to toss and turn in your bed as the thought of this man just wouldn’t leave your mind.

“this is so irritating! why am i thinking of some stranger i made eye contact with for probably a total of what - five seconds?!” say to no one. flipping over to lay on your side, you read the numbers blinking on your alarm clock.

“shit… it’s already one …” you mumble underneath your breath.

flipping back onto your back, you drape your arm over your eyes as the moonlight shone through your window.

“maybe i can just sleep it off…” you say aloud as you let out a yawn. you felt your eyes get heavier by the second before finally drifting off to sleep.

your eyebrows furrow together in confusion as you looked around at the unknown area. trees surrounded you along with an assortment of plants and flowers. as you looked forward, your eyes are drifted towards the pathway underneath your feet which was covered in moss and grass.

“i swore i was just in my bed”

unable to make sense of the situation, you don’t even notice that your feet began to move on their own. as you continue being deep in thought, you unconsciously follow the path that was laid out in front of you.

it wasn’t until you noticed that there weren’t as many trees around that you finally looked up, now standing by an empty lake. you then realized that you were most likely in a garden somewhere - but where? and why?

“am i dreaming right now… is this a lucid dream or something… why does it feel like i’m actually in a garden though…” you wonder aloud as you continued to walk throughout the quiet garden. “might as well enjoy the scenery” right as the words left your mouth though, you felt a raindrop gently fall on your head.

soon enough, rain started pouring down from the skies as if the clouds had been holding it in for years. covering your head with your hands as you run through the garden, you tried to look for a place where you’d be able to take shelter. spotting a roofed pergola in the distance, you quickly make your way over.

“of course it starts raining when i actually want to take a walk around this place” an annoyed huff leaving your lips following your comment. squeezing your shirt to get the water out of it in order to relieve the heavy weight it brought on your clothes, you didn’t take notice of the footsteps approaching the small pergola you were under.

“it’s raining pretty bad - don’t you think?” an unknown voice comments with a laugh amidst the loud patter of the heavy rain. a jolt ran through your body as the sound of a deep voice surprised your ears. your eyes widen as you turn your head towards the owner of the voice.

you were shocked to see a boy around his early twenties, standing at a distance from you. round glasses that were now covered in rain droplets, sat on his nose as he stood wearing casual clothes and a thick jacket. a book bag was draped across his chest and you watched as he squinted up at the grey sky.

you felt your breath hitch as he turns to look at you, a small smile on his face. as his eyes locked with yours - you felt that familiar feeling that you had earlier today. he raises an eyebrow as you continue to stare at him in confusion “don’t tell me - you forgot again, didn’t you?”

as you continued to stare at him with that confused look on your face, he lets out sigh of defeat as his shoulders slumped down “i’m not surprised - it has been a while since our dreams intertwined like this.”

tilting your head to the side, he just laughs at your expression much to your dismay “guess i’ll reintroduce myself then - i’m wonwoo” he extends his hand out towards you which you hesitantly take. nodding your head slowly, you still were unable to grasp the situation at hand.

“nice to meet you wonwoo… i’m -”

“y/n. i know.”

a gasp leaves your lips as he finishes your sentence “wait! how did you know my name? do you know where we are? how did we get here? what do you mean intertwining dreams?”

wonwoo holds up his free hand as a signal for you to slow down which automatically causes you to halt your flood of questions. puling his hand away from yours, you couldn’t help but miss the warmth that contact gave you.

“let’s just say - this isn’t really our first time meeting.” wonwoo tells you, but that still didn’t help answer any of your questions.

“have we met before?” you ask quietly, to which he nods his head. placing his hands in the pockets of his jacket, he turns back towards the rain “many times actually. but it seems like you keep forgetting we do each time.”

as you try to make sense of his words, you didn’t even notice you were shivering. wonwoo takes notice of this from the corner of his eye though, and lets out a sigh. you don’t realize he’s taking off his jacket until you felt its weight against your shoulders.

the action snaps you out of the thought you were having as you looked up at him with wide eyes. he averts his gaze from yours though as he continued to wrap the jacket around your shoulders “listen, i know this is just a dream and whatever - but i can’t just watch you stand there shivering like a lost puppy”

you felt your cheeks heat up slightly and you quickly turn to look towards the ground. you perk up though once you take in his comment “wait! so this is a dream?”

he hums in confirmation in response to your question “mhm, everything here is a dream.”

“wait so if this is my dream - why are you here?”

“ouch, you trying to kick me out?”

“sorry! i didn’t mean it like that i just -”

wonwoo cuts you off with a laugh and you continued to stare up at him filled with wonder and curiosity.

“i’ll sum it up like i do each time we meet again. our dreams somehow intertwine with each others from time to time and we end up being in the other’s dreams. they always seem to take place in this garden also. but for some reason, you keep on forgetting these dreams we have together, meaning -”

“i keep forgetting that we’ve met?” you finish, to which wonwoo nods. a pout forms on your lips at this realization “what the hell! that sucks why do i keep forgetting you?!”

wonwoo shrugs at your question though “beats me. seems like you’re the type of person to forget their dreams immediately when they wake up.”

your eyebrows furrow together as another question leaves your lips “then why is it you always remember me?”

his features soften at your question and a small smile spreads across his face “that’s because i could never forget you, no matter how hard i’d try”

a blush spreads across your cheeks at the comment, and you feel yourself fill with embarrassment. you hear a light chuckle come from him as he watches your reaction “don’t just say stuff like that to someone you just met!”

“i wouldn’t typically say that to a stranger - but then again, this isn’t our first time meeting, remember?”

for what felt like the next couple hours, the two of you talked and got to know each other all over again. you felt at ease with him around, and you never once felt uncomfortable with his presence.

“why do you think our dreams keep connecting back here?” you suddenly asked him. he was unable to answer your question though.

“i’m not sure actually. it sure does look like a park around where i live though.” he tells you as you nod slowly. as you think over all the different possibilities, you suddenly raise up a finger as the sound of ‘aha!’ escapes your lips.

“i know! maybe it’s a sign that we’re meant to be!” as soon as you say that, wonwoo’s face turns bright red. he covers his face quickly with his hands as you continued to look at him excitedly “who’s the one saying corny stuff now”

you wave him off though as you continue on with what you were saying “maybe - just maybe if we go to this park when we’re awake then we’ll finally meet in person and not just in this dream garden!”

he gives you a soft smile at your suggestion, and you hear the rain slowly quiet down. “that sure does sound ideal - but don’t you remember? you always forget these dreams”

shaking your head at his response, you look up at him with a determined look on your face - not realizing that the garden around you two was now slowly fading away.

“i won’t forget you this time, i promise! and if i do - i’ll still find a way for us to meet!” were the last words you told him before things finally faded away.

rubbing your eyes as you wake up, you held your head in your hands as you hazily tried to recall your dream.

“wait… what was i dreaming about again?” you mumble groggily as you tried to remember. getting up for the day, you felt agitated at the fact that you were unable to recall the dream you had from the night before.

“i feel as if i’m forgetting something important…” you tell yourself as you got ready for your plans for the day. your friend had asked you to come check out a new cafe that was a whiles away from where you lived.

for the rest of the morning, you did your best to get an idea as to what you were forgetting. yet no matter how much you tried - nothing came to mind.

once you got down to the place you two planned to meet up at, your friend informed you that they were going to take a while.

“way to tell me once i got here” you huff. though the feeling of irritation soon left once you spot something in the distance. as your eyes wandered toward the park not too far off from where you were at, your feet began moving on their own, and that feeling of familiarity washed over you once again.

as you finally got to the park, you took in the scenery and looked at the plants growing. the feeling of deja vu hits you as you walked past a large, blue lake.

“i swear i haven’t been here before… so why does it feel as if…”

your train of thought is cut off once you felt a drop of rain land on you, more quickly falling down from the sky. running towards the closest place to take shelter, you stared up at the dark clouds up above. running footsteps make your way towards you, causing you to turn your head at the young man who stood besides you.

“it’s raining pretty bad - don’t you think?” he asks with a laugh, the rain nearly drowning out his voice as it continued to pour down harshly. once he turns his head to look at you, your eyes finally meet, and everything that you were trying so hard to remember suddenly came flooding back to you.

the smile on his face is quickly replaced with a shocked look as he realizes who you were. as the rain begins to calm down, the two of you continued to stare at each other with mirrored expressions.

a gasp leaves your lips and you raised your hand to point a finger towards him in surprise.

“i dreamt about you last night!” 

wonwoo’s eyes widened at your loud revelation and a small laugh leaves your lips as you saw his expression. you coughed loudly as you extend your hand out towards him. a smile spreading across your lips once he takes it.

“guess i’ll reintroduce myself then - i’m y/n”

he shakes his head with a laugh at your introduction. 

“nice to meet you y/n... i’m -”

A staff member leads you down Royal’s winding hallways to So Jiseob’s office, then opens the door and leads you inside, where the CEO awaits, sitting at his desk. He doesn’t look up as you enter; he’s too preoccupied with paperwork in front of him. Seated across from his desk, next to an empty chair, is a company lawyer whom you recognize from before; she’d been present when you signed your initial company contract. The staff member directs you to take the empty chair next to the lawyer and then leaves. You hear the door close and the latch click back into place just as your CEO finally looks up and offers the tiniest hint of a smile.

He folds his hands on the desk in front of him, eyes settling on yours. “When trainees first sign a contract with a company, they are devoting themselves to at least two years of training. They usually don’t expect the time to pass so quickly, but it does,” he ruminates mildly.  “Years of training and hopes leads to one dream usually: debut.”

“But, you’re no ordinary trainee. Since our pre-debut project started in August, you’ve been groomed to be a member of DE:CODE, a debut group I have incredibly high hopes for. Since then, I’ve seen you grow a lot in your training. You’ve had your ups and downs, plenty of both good and bad.” He pauses, and diverts his attention back to his desk, where he shuffles paperwork until he sets one singular sheet of paper in front of him. “You are the oldest member and with a powerful charm of your own. I’ve been proud of your growth here, and I trust you to do your best to continue to improve, even after debut. This, here,” he says, motioning towards the document, “is a contract exclusive to DE:CODE and will tie you to this group, and to Royal Entertainment, for the next six years.”

He finally becomes a little less stoic, and shows the glimpse of a real smile as he slides the contract toward you and hands you a pen. “If we share the same vision of making DE:CODE one of the top boy groups in all of Korea, and you wish to be a part of this journey, you know what to do.”

this was what he had waited for over the course of the last weeks, and this moment had been one to making him anxious the most. kang joon still couldn’t quite believe to be promised a spot within de:code as long as he wasn’t handed the contract. too big was the big was the fear of being kicked out and left behind last minute. even the sight of the lawyer who had been present during his initial contract and the renewal one, wasn’t assuring him of a positive outcome, until his ceo, so jisub, offers a small smile. silently, he listened what his boss had to say, listened to the words of his journey so far. kang joon nodded, agreed to the ceo’s summary about the ups and downs he had been through. he was still struggling with improving his dance every day.

his eyes followed the movements of the older man, wandering to the single sheet of paper he in the end set in front of him. his heart made a little jump. so this was the last step, his last stage before finally becoming a fullfledged member of the royal garden, a flower that was worthy to be kept and raised. he couldn’t contain a smile anymore, beaming brightly, excited at his boss, when the last bits of speech fell and his sincere smile almost slips.

“you are the oldest member and with a powerful charm of your own.”

a powerful charm? that was the only thing so jisub saw in him? it wasn’t the most suprising praise he had received from the ceo, kang joon was aware of his charismatic presence and had never failed to grow it and make it his trademark. so the wave of disappointment that washed away all the prior excitement and happiness over receiving the idol contract for real, was more than confusing to him. he did his best to not have it show on his face, hid his feelings yet again behind a mask. of course it was no praise, no compliment to upset him, yet the feeling of putting the focus on his charm only, was preying on his mind. there was so much more than he wanted to prove to himself and to the company. he didn’t wanted to be known for his charms, his looks only. to him it sounded like there was nothing else he was good for, that he wasn't needed for anything else.

so jisub’s next words shoke him awake: de:code was definitely the group he wanted to have this journey with, and he wanted to make it big with them. was giving away, signing away six of his years, six years of freedom the right decision though? for a moment his amber coloured eyes gazed at the sheet of paper in front of him. if he were to pull back now, what would happen? would he regret to have given up because of thoughts of insecurity clouding his mind? would he be called a coward?

kang joon picked up the pen, pausing for a moment, as he read through every single line, before lowering the pen to sign. all these years of training would be lost, if he was to give away this chance now. for now the ceo seemed to only see his charms, but soon he would shake in kang joon's presence. the show wasn't over yet, it had only started.

Should Seunghwan choose to SIGN the DE:CODE contract, he will be employed by Royal Entertainment without a need to renew a contract until the duration of this one has concluded. As a reward for making it this far, he will receive THREE WEEKENDS unpaid vacation time to use any time between now and the end of April, so long as it doesn’t clash with any special debut activities (such as music show appearances, meaning he can’t actually use his vacation time until after his music show performances have finished.)

Should he choose to REJECT this contract with Royal and DE:CODE, he will leave the company, effective immediately upon rejection. He will be able to keep all of his debut points, but will not be able to take any trainee workshops or earn any more debut points/workshop points until he becomes a trainee again. He will not have any special advantage over newer characters when he auditions for other companies in the future, and should he become a trainee at a new company he will be considered a junior trainee all over again, even though he will still have her debut points and would be eligible for debut right away. at this point, only sheer willpower and an iced americano from around an hour ago is keeping his hand upright and writing, because he has to get this done as soon as possible. even when he’s resorted to switching from his laptop to hand just for the sake of keeping him aware, his mind is slowly starting to become more and more fixated on sleeping and the lovely feeling of his cheek against the soft pillows of his bed. 

even with everything piling up onto his shoulders until he couldn’t take it anymore, the texts still put a smile on hyojin’s face, lighting up his eyes despite the bags that were starting to form under them. his eyelids are heavy under his circle-rimmed glasses, the summer heat blasting in through the slightly ajar window of his bedroom making it harder and harder to stay awake due to the drowsiness it’s carried with it.

with all that’s been going on, he’s almost forgotten about the festival.

he’s fairly sure that there’s some kind of saying that the thing that fuels your passion when you’re young will never burn out no matter how much distance you put between yourself and it, but it can’t quite come to mind. instead, he basks in the content feeling of singing with a purpose, even if he’s just on stage for fun and to help others enjoy. he’s even seen some idols once or twice performing at his school for these kinds of festivals, but there was always a special one held towards the end of every semester before summer break; this one, created by the student government, was meant to be more of a pr event for raising money to donate to charities, and thus only featured performances from students in the school.

the focus rotates from every year depending on the urgency of current events, as well as particularly high demand areas of help across all kinds of demographics, so even without the incentive of being able to have the stage to himself, hyojin found himself gravitating towards signups in his freshman year. he’s fortunate to have slowly gotten to know the event runners over the years, the current head of which was a beloved dongsaeng and fan of his. that, along with his presumed popularity for performing rearrangements of popular songs and doing them well, gained him a reputation across campus for having honey-like vocals, a title which his friends take pleasure in teasing him to death about. 

it’s all in good fun, however; he doesn’t quite mind the attention -- he likes it, actually, because it reminds him of home, how everyone back then had known him for something similar, anyang’s sweet vocal prince, always spotted with some kind of instrument, singing some kind of song.

he quickly decides on a song to perform the moment the confirmation comes through and he’s placed on the roster, a classic that wasn’t too difficult to practice or prepare for, and one that suited the vibes of a cool, summer night well. from his experience, most of the acts were spent hyping up the crowd and keeping their energy high for the acts deeper into the night, meaning that there was plentiful opportunity for him to provide a well-needed break from all of the bright, poppy songs. some nice, comfortable acoustic, accompanied by the sweet melody of the ed sheeran song, would certainly be an enjoyable choice.

perhaps that’s what dug this hole for him in the end, though, because hyojin can barely believe his eyes when he gets another text from the event head, this time with an announcement he’s not sure how to register.

“ah, what should i do...?” setting down his phone in disbelief, he rubs his forehead in frustration, sighing loudly to offset the slowly growing blush painting his cheeks. 

he’s never been one to back out of things like this, whether it’s because he’s weak at heart or simply because he doesn’t mind that much -- at the same time, though, he’s mildly terrified as to what was to come. the names were familiar enough, and considering the fact that he knew the rest of the members apart from him were part of the same dance team under the school, hyojin wonders if the real reason why he’s there, too, is more of a personal conflict of interest than random selection. 

regardless, he shakes his head, imagining yonghwa’s excited grin while sending the text, undoubtedly awaiting his confirmation eagerly. looks like he was in it for real this time.

the screams are loud, so loud that they make his ears ring, even though they’re already burning up quite enough. self-consciously, he tugs the newsboy cap on his head down to try and cover his ears, the accessory bringing an unfamiliar weight onto his hair from before. the singing solo had gone well, still fresh in his mind from around half an hour ago.

it was nervewracking performing in front of so many people, especially with such a minimal backing except for his voice, his guitar and some guiding vocals, but if he was being honest, there was nothing better than the soothing silence of the crowd as they swayed along to the song, turning the lights on their phones to lift them in the air and wave them, a crowd of white stars listening to his performance. he’s completed the stage with no worries, a warmth filling every corner of his heart at the cheers, even some screams of his name. it’s only once in a blue moon that things like this get to happen, meaning that both the audience and the performers can feel the excitement. it’s a mix of that and seeing someone you know and see on a daily basis get to perform in a way you’ve never seen them do before.

his heart only starts picking up and thrashing around when he has to do the special stage. it had been mortifying the first few days of practice; hyojin had felt like he had walked into the dance studio in the middle of an advanced learners’ class after getting lost as a novice. they were friendly enough, though -- they guided him warmly and well, even despite the fact that he was around their age or older. 

it takes a numerous amount of awkward movements and well timed advice for him to finally get down the dance, another tiring week or two to finally have fun with it. his moves aren’t the most accurate or clean in comparison, but he blends in well enough to not stand out poorly. at the same time, though, he’s sure it really doesn’t matter, because at the end of the day, it was about knowing the dance and seeing them do it, not necessarily execute it well. 

he finds that this is especially true when they finally get on the stage, bowing and doing an entire introduction to mimic an idol group, going down the line and performing a quick aegyo set ( much to hyojin’s initial chagrin, but he’s learned to accept it ). as the music starts and his nerves reach their peak, he decides to just let go and have fun, feeling the grin reach from one cheek to another at how loud the cheers and screams were, almost as loud as the girls’ psy stage. admittedly, the tooice song probably had something to do with it -- they were always hot nowadays, especially with their latest song being so upbeat and fitting of summer. 

as the two minutes of their performance reaches its end, hyojin finds himself laughing, eyes wrinkling and forming pretty crescents. at the very least, once they hold their ending poses and then get off the stage, he thinks that this was probably his favorite iteration of the festival.

now that he thought about it, actually, he’d be willing to do something like this again. he hopes he can do it again. but, of course, that was just another silly daydream.

How much you love him and that just because he can’t fit a relationship in doesn’t mean he’s not the best boyfriend you could have possibly dreamed for.

Happy Birthday or A Moment Where Moon Looks Back

Right now, his big brother is probably snuggled up in bed with someone pretty and peacefully sleeping. For this twin, he’s not. He’s sitting in his bookstore, watching the clock. He’s got all the time in the world, doesn’t he? Immortality has been good to him. Watching a clock isn’t going to put a huge dent in the space of time he has left on the earth. Not that he’s looking forward to it.

Another year older. Really, he’s lost track at this point. Is he 300? 250? The array of knowledge that he has is learned but how many wars has he seen? How many times did he worry about having to fight? How many times did he think about his mom? The number is much too large. But still, he stares. What was it that people found so great about getting one year older? He’d watched his mother grow old, he watched himself grow and then stop. He’s been like this for heaven knows how long. Just subtly changing his hair. Red, purple, blonde. This time he’s changed it to a brown-ginger. He’ll probably go back to black one day when he’s run out of options before starting again with his ridiculous cycle of hair changes.

While he still loves his brother, while he still would do anything for him, deep in his heart he feels weak. Leaning back against the desk, Moon lifts his hand and a small ball of light hovers over his skin. There was a time where he couldn’t do this. For a long time he thought he was actually human. That maybe he wasn’t going to have to worry about these Beckingridges who scared him to no end. However, he hasn’t gotten what he wanted ever.

When he was a child, he was soft spoken. He still is now, but there’s a chill there as well. Something has hardened over time that he can’t pinpoint but it started the day of his birthday. The day his mother passed from this world. The day these powers manifested and the most miserable day of his life all those years ago. He doesn’t care about the powers at this point, or that his father was too busy grieving to see his son who needed support, who had just shot a light beam through a wall. So when he thinks of his birthday, he thinks of that wall. Of the day that his life changed.

And that he’s never really fit in. Seunghwan is darker, tougher. He knows everything in the whole world effortlessly. Everything his brother does, Moon is always in awe. How strong must his brother be! And he envies his ties to his Aunt and the others. Even if Moon is the guardian of the Beckingridge’s most prized artifacts and books, it’s not like he feels like he totally belongs.

Some would argue that Moon could defend them all. Using his light, shaking the world and destroying galaxies. He could do all of these things. But still, there’s hatred there from the people that are supposed to be family. He still feels as though his father sees his mother in him. As much as Moon hid behind her skirts because of Enzo, he was still always scared of everything. And when his mother died, he lost that protection from her, a mother’s love. And maybe that’s what’s hardened him.

And maybe, just maybe, Seunghwan needs to know that his brother is thinking of him today. So he leaves a voicemail.

“Hi Big Brother, happy birthday. Don’t be sad on this day, mom would be looking down on us happily, knowing we still care. I love you Seunghwan. Please smile today.”

Rockies fall to Dodgers 8-2, fall to 2nd in West

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Joc Pederson let his fist bump with a fan in the front row show just how good he was feeling Monday night.

The outfielder launched two home runs and tracked down a pair of potential extra-base hits on defense as Hyun-Jin Ryu and the Los Angeles Dodgers jumped back into first place in the NL West with an 8-2 victory over the Colorado Rockies.

"We're playing well right now," said Pederson, who exchanged pleasantries with a fan after running down Drew Butera's drive in the left-field corner. "It's just a good day I guess, you know? We're back in first place. Ryu threw unbelievable and we scored a lot of runs."

It was a rough night all-around for the Rockies, who lost slugger Trevor Story to a right elbow injury. The All-Star shortstop tweaked his elbow on a throw in the first inning and aggravated it on a swing in the fourth. He will have tests Tuesday to determine the severity.

Colorado not only dropped a half-game behind the Dodgers in the division, the Rockies also fell a half-game behind the Cardinals for the second NL wild card.

Story was checked by manager Bud Black and a trainer before leaving the game. Already this season, Story has become the first shortstop in major league history with at least 40 doubles, 30 home runs and 25 steals.

"We haven't learned anything yet," Story said. "I just kind of felt something on a throw when I dove for the ball and then my elbow was a little tight. I just tried to play through it and when I swung through that pitch, kind of extended my arm, I felt it a little more. Just being cautious and we'll find out more (Tuesday)."

Max Muncy added a three-run homer and Ryu (5-3) pitched seven scoreless innings for the Dodgers, throwing 93 pitches to match a season high. He struck out five and didn't walk a batter as he lowered his ERA to 2.21 over seven starts since returning from a strained left groin.

"He's always been a big-game pitcher," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. "For him to be healthy and set the tone for this series, he was in complete command tonight. His stuff was really good and we fed off of him."

The Rockies entered this showdown series with a half-game lead on Los Angeles, but the teams switched places as the Dodgers unleashed the high-powered offense that helped them win three of four last weekend in St. Louis.

Pederson gave a sign of what was ahead when he led off the game for the Dodgers with a home run to the opposite field in left. It was his sixth leadoff homer this season and the ninth of his career. Muncy also scored in the first inning on a wild pitch by Jon Gray (11-8).

The Dodgers chased Gray in the third as the first five hitters reached base against the right-hander. Manny Machado had an RBI single that was followed by Muncy's three-run drive, his 33rd homer of the season. Yasiel Puig's single ended Gray's night.

Gray went two-plus innings, giving up six runs, seven hits and two walks. He hasn't pitched more than four innings in three consecutive starts.

"I think most of it is mechanical adjustments, but the thing for me is not thinking about the mechanical stuff when I'm competing," Gray said. "That can get in the way. It got in the way a lot tonight. That happened to me too many times already and I'm just sick of it right now."

Pederson hit his second homer of the night in the fourth. His two-run shot into the seats in right field off reliever Harrison Musgrave was his 23rd of the season, and moved him within three of matching his career best set in his rookie year of 2015.

The Rockies broke through for their first run in the eighth against left-hander Alex Wood on an RBI single from DJ LeMahieu. Wood, charged with two runs in the inning, was removed from the rotation last week.

PUIG ROLLS ON

Puig had two more hits to give him 25 multihit games this season. Just selected the National League player of the week, primarily for his exploits last weekend in St. Louis, Puig has been a major catalyst for the Dodgers' seven victories in their past 11 games.

Going back to the start of the team's recent 10-game road trip on Sept. 7, Puig is batting .433 (13 for 30) with a 1.067 OPS. He has six home runs and 11 RBIs in that stretch.

TRAINER'S ROOM

Rockies: RHP Seunghwan Oh (tight left hamstring) was available out of the bullpen after not pitching since Sept. 9.

Dodgers: 3B Justin Turner was in the starting lineup, with Roberts saying "he remains sore in the wrist" after Turner was hit by a pitch Saturday at St. Louis. ... RHP John Axford (broken right leg) was activated from the disabled list along with LHP Tony Cingrani (left shoulder strain). ... RHP Daniel Hudson (right forearm tightness) was transferred to the 60-day DL.

UP NEXT

The Rockies will send LHP Kyle Freeland (15-7, 2.96 ERA) to the mound Tuesday. He is 6-0 with a 2.96 ERA over his last eight starts. The Dodgers will have LHP Clayton Kershaw (8-5, 2.51) on the mound. The longtime ace is 5-1 with a 2.26 ERA in 10 second-half starts.
