Well this is like half a lifetime late. BUT I finally found the inspo to write this. Thanks to yourself!!!! and your tags on this post. I love Smitten and Deeply Unsmooth Nico, and Hot Captain Roman Josi. Smallest feature by Tired Of This Jonas Sieganthaler (poor guy has to watch Nico in so many situations).

"It's good to be back, no?" Roman glides to a stop next to Nico.

"Hmm? What do you mean?" Nico feels the smile tug at the corner of his lips; he's always been so bad at playing things cool when it comes to Roman.

He smiles in return, so easy, so bright, so wide it crinkles the edges of his eyes. Seeing it always makes something ache in Nico's chest; he's sure it can be seen for miles, but it still feels like it's just for him, private. It's a lot for something like that to be pointed in his direction. It would make him sweat under his collar if he weren't already so sweaty from the game.

"Oh, you know. Hockey, Europe, this..." He taps a gloved hand on Nico's chest; it makes his heart beat a little faster. "Nice to not have half a continent between us. So much you can do with all this proximity."

Nico sucks in a breath and lets it out with a shaky laugh. "Oh, come on, you didn't even score. I'm not going to blow you for an assist," he says, like the liar he is.

Roman laughs, shaking his head; Nico's eyes catch on his suddenly heated gaze. Roman leans in and murmurs more quietly, "What if it's just for fun?"

Nico hears a sound escape his lips that sounds embarrassingly like a giggle. He usually has so much game; he wonders where all that has gone. He swallows, hoping his confidence is convincing. "Well, Captain, if it's just for fun—"

There's a sharp tap on the back of his thigh, snapping him out of this mortifying trance he's in. "Can you not do this on the fucking ice in front of God and everyone, Jesus Christ," Nico hears Siegs grumble as he skates past behind them.

Roman has the audacity to just laugh and wink before skating away. It is nice to be back, he thinks.
