called both of my parents today and was like hey I think my cat is dying and in their least helpful moment ever my mom told me “this is why I don’t take the dogs to the vet unless they’re acting really sick” so I should just let it happen until she’s in pain/can’t eat/etc and then my dad just went “well you have too many cats anyway” and in his defense he does not know the living arrangements out here anymore because I haven’t told him but I had to be like she’s like. My Cat. she’s like my child. and emotionally I cannot handle even the idea of cutting her life short from illness let alone me making that choice. so anyways I guess in a few weeks I’ll find out how much time I have left with one of the most important living beings in my life and I’m just preparing for worst case scenario given the entire situation. I’m so emotionally and physically stressed rn I had labs drawn today and all my wbc tests were dramatically high like it’s already bad for me just thinking about it. anyways.

Bad year just got worse.

The pathologist said that the most likely cause for Chester's high WBC counts is leukemia. It can sometimes be genetic and only present later in life. The other option would be a bad reaction to a flea or tick bite, but he hasn't had fleas in ages and he's never been bitten by a tick to our knowledge. He's an indoor cat.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's somehow a flea or tick bite, but the pathologist said that was very unlikely.

Chemo is an option, but it's hard on cats, has low success rates, and is quite pricey. Steroids might help him feel better, but they'd just prolong the inevitable. We're taking him in Saturday to discuss with his vet and get a confirmed leukemia diagnosis.

It's likely that this will be my last week with my special little boy. He'll be with his brother soon, and I know they'll be happy to see each other again. I don't know what's beyond the Rainbow Bridge, but I have to believe it's wonderful.

He's given me nearly 14 amazing years. I've never loved a pair of cats the way I love Chester and Walter. I'll mourn them until the day I die, but maybe, if we get lucky, I won't have to mourn Chester just yet. Still, I'm preparing for the worst.
