The Animation Guild Announces Unionization Efforts At Warner Bros. And Cartoon Network
EDIT: Because people are misreading this, please note: it is animation production workers specifically who are joining the pre-existing TAG (The Animation Guild) union.
Animators and animation writers are already covered under TAG. This news story is specifically about WB animation production workers.
News story text:
"Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network production workers are attempting to unionize with The Animation Guild (TAG).
A petition was filed with the National Labor Relations Board today requesting a union election. The petition includes 66 staffers at Warner Bros. Animation and 22 at Cartoon Network, including roles like production manager, digital production assistant, IT technician, production coordinator, production assistant, design production coordinator, assistant production manager and senior assistant production manager.
They are involved in such Warner Bros. projects as Batman: The Caped Crusader, Harley Quinn and Teen Titans Go! and Cartoon Network’s Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake, We Baby Bears and Craig of the Creek.
The workers also requested voluntary recognition from management at the Warner Bros. Discovery subsidiaries.
A tweet was issued confirming the move, which was officially announced earlier on a joint Zoom call.
“Although many might not think it, production is a specialized skill; we might not be artists or writers, but what we bring to the table goes beyond traditional creativity and gets content on the air,” Warner Bros. Animation production manager Hannah Ferenc said in a statement about the organization effort. “Having lived through the existing state of the animation industry for the past seven years, I want to make sure that not only our current workers, but all those who choose to join us in the future, can feel secure in following their passion by earning livable wages and being treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.”
The Animation Guild has already established bargaining units on shows like Rick and Morty, Solar Opposites, The Simpsons, Family Guy and American Dad!  It also is active at studios like Titmouse New York and L.A. and ShadowMachine. Establishment at Walt Disney Animation Studios is currently in progress."

Note
sorry if this is a dumb question and i understand if you don't want to answer but do you have links to posts explaining why israel isn't an apartheid state? i swear i read posts like that on your blog before but i don't know how to refind them
Israeli Arabs have legal equality with Jews. Same restaurants, same pools, same seats on the bus, same voting rights. I would favorably compare the treatment of Israeli Arabs with that of any minority group in any country on Earth.
The West Bank has a military occupation, with (pretty fast) checkpoints and no right to vote about the government running that military. Military occupations are bad and some of us have been against this particular one for decades. The anti-occupation movement hasn't gotten anywhere, they've just been stuck. Being stuck in a military occupation for X more years doesn't make it apartheid, just like being stuck in a bad marriage for X more years doesn't make you divorced. Meanwhile, the 2020 Abraham Accords showed that multiple Arab states were willing to accept this unchanging status quo and deal with Israel as it is. Those two factors - the stagnant, unchanging nature of the occupation, and the clear loss of interest in the Palestinian cause - combined to have the latest crop of awareness-raising college interns at some shifty NGOs try to force change by abracadabra'ing together a new concept of "apartheid" that exists solely for Israel. And it is working, just like "Christ-killer" and "stabbed Germany in the back" worked.
In 2010, Human Rights Watch published an extremely critical report on Israel's occupation of the West Bank. Dragged them up one wall and down the other. Yet there was no accusation of "apartheid" there. In the report, page 33, they cited a lawsuit by the Association for Civil Rights in Israel that had said it was apartheid for the West Bank military occupation authorities to ban Palestinians from driving on Highway 443 after repeated firebombings / shootings against Israelis. The Israeli High Court ruled that it was inappropriate to ban Palestinians from the road, and it re-established their equal driving access - they have had it ever since. The court also said that the accusation of apartheid behind that now-ended ban was dishonest, because the security concerns were not based on race; there were and are no "Jewish-only" roads anywhere, even when WB Palestinians were denied road access, Israeli Arabs could and did drive there. The HRW 2010 report included a long summary of that finding, without challenge. As bad as they saw Israel, they agreed it wasn't apartheid.
Then in 2020 came the Abraham Accords, so while nothing at all had changed in the administration of the West Bank, in 2021 HRW said it actually was apartheid. It really is that simple. The most famous legal convention banning apartheid specifies that it is race-based. HRW instead went with a different legal convention on apartheid, one that says it could be based on national origin if it involves discrimination among citizens of the same country.... and then they up and added their own twist to that, saying they will consider it apartheid if there is discrimination based on national origin AMONG PEOPLE WHO AREN'T CITIZENS OF THE SAME COUNTRY. In a very real sense, HRW declared Mexico is an apartheid state because Americans can't vote in its elections.
In 2022, Amnesty International followed with their own report, saying that not only was the military occupation now "apartheid," but that Israel itself had been an apartheid state ever since it was established in 1948. This moral perversion had the effect of saying Israel literally INVENTED apartheid since in May 1948 it didn't even exist in South Africa yet. It also said that Amnesty International - founded 1961 - had been looking at an apartheid the whole time but never recognized it. To make things even more dishonest, Amnesty said they "are not claiming Israeli conditions are analogous to South Africa," meaning anything that shows how Israel is different from South Africa doesn't count. They're using the South African word for the South African policy but it's actually not like South Africa at all so be quiet, neener neener no backsies.
I shouldn't have to take that seriously. Neither should anyone. Palestinians and their advocates should be ashamed to have to lean on such an obvious bad-faith lie.
Nelson Mandela, who died in 2013, never once accused Israel of apartheid, and instead repeatedly said he supported Zionism and a 2-state solution. Mandela's lawyer, still alive, says the accusation is a lie. Mansour Abbas, leader of the Arab Islamist party that joined Israel's governing coalition in 2021, says the accusation is a lie. And if people want to bandy around NGO business cards, here is the International Committee of the Red Cross in 2017:
“The Red Cross was very familiar with the regime that prevailed in South Africa during the apartheid period, and we are responding to all those who raise their claim of apartheid against Israel: No, there is no apartheid here, no regime of superiority of race, of denial of basic human rights to a group of people because of their alleged racial inferiority. There is a bloody national conflict, whose most prominent and tragic characteristic is its continuation over the years, decades-long, and there is a state of occupation. Not apartheid.”
There's a lot more you can see about the shifty terminology, unreliable sourcing, and longstanding culture of antisemitism and racism within Amnesty International. People who can cite chapter and verse of why the Salvation Army, Autism Speaks, Chik-Fil-A and Harry Potter are problematic should not be shocked.

Mari… my god work has been killing me 😭 sometimes I’m so tempted to just set the place on fire…( I work in a pharmacy and tis the season for shots n stuff ) anyway it just got me thinking about how the WB boys would comfort you on a bad/stressful day and vis versa? Do you just collapse in his embrace when you come home close to tears? Are you the first one he thinks about when he needs a safe place to hide for a while from the world? Is it just me or has the work place become crazier? When you want a break but that break costs money 🙃
Tumblr media
Emi darling I too wanna set work on fire (and that’s coming from a part time firefighter) Next time I get my covid/flu shot combo I’ll think of you 😭 I hope you get a break soon. As for craziness…yeah it’s definitely crazier i think but on my end my work is affected by election season as well.
Let’s see…
I think Sakura’s a listener first. Sure he’ll get the urge to fix whatever’s exhausted and/or distressed you, but what he can do right now is listen. Doesn’t matter the topic, he’s got this patient face on that only changes when he hears about how shitty your boss is or if your coworker shoves their work on you. Seeing him get upset on your behalf as you vent makes you feel better, having been able to get out all those feelings you’ve bottled up. He’ll take the lead after unless you have an idea of what you wanna do. Otherwise he’s dragging you on the couch to watch your favorite comfort show.
You would absolutely be his first thought when he’s on the reverse of this. Staring at your picture on his phone if he’s not with you and once he gets home he’s curled up next to you. Loves when you let him lay on your chest when he’s feeling bad, letting your hands card through his hair. He turns his phone off and everything. He does NOT want anyone interrupting that time with you.
Togame was the first one I thought of when I read this. He just exudes comfort to me but maybe I'm biased? He brings you to curl up with him in bed most of the time, though I think he'd be fantastic at massages! Tired, sore, just so tightly wound you could cry? Just let him straddle the backs of your thighs and his hands will physically pull your soul from your body, twist and wring it out, and put it right back in shiny and clean.
Even on a good day, I think he can't wait to get back to you. On a rough day? He's ready to start running home tbh. If he comes in to you cooking/reading/etc. He's behind you in an instant drawing you up in his arms. He will follow you around the house like that if you let him. Just a big koala soaking up the comfort you bring him. Asks if you'll go for a night walk with him after dinner if you both aren't too tired.
Umemiya...you know how he is. He can tell right away from your face and posture, even if you hadn't called him earlier asking if he could take care of some things for you. Of course he did it right away, lightening your load as much as he can, but he still brings you up on his lap on the couch to talk about it later when you see him. Asks if you two can plan a small day trip or vacation somewhere to de-stress because if so, he's all over it. If you really can't, he'll send lunches with you to work/school, little flowers and a motivational sticky note telling you how proud he is of you and home much he loves you.
You can also tell immediately when he's having a bad day. Clingy is an understatement. He can and will throw himself at you, no shame even if you're in public. Likes when you let him lay his head in your lap as he tells you about his day. He claims only 1000 kisses from you will be able to heal him from his struggles.
When you text Kiryu throughout the day he can tell you're stressed. By the time you get to his place, the lights are down, and your favorite scented candles are lit. He's down to do what you wanna do, whether it's watch a show, play a game, or just lay in the pillow and blanket nest he built earlier that's been stocked with your favorite snacks and drinks.
When he's stressed I think he really thinks of a shower first. Of course you're on his mind, but before anything else he just wants to physically wash the problems away. He really likes when you help him unwind by brushing his hair and taking his piercings out. Actually really likes if you'll take a bath with him. He's got an arsenal of bubble baths, body washes, scrubs, you name it. By the time you're both out, you smell heavenly and feel it too.

What makes this even worse is that WB recently announced a bunch of animated projects, so if he had pitched his show now, it may have gotten picked up.
I know I say this a lot, but the current state of western animation is legitimately depressing.
Executives aren't green lighting shows and even if a show is green lit, there's like a 50/50 chance it'll end up seeing the light of day.
I really, really, really hope The Animation Guild goes on strike in August, I know it's an election year and everyone is stressed out, but the industry cannot survive if the status quo doesn't change.

"Israel's war of mass destruction has not resulted in making Palestinians less likely to support Hamas or the use to arms, it has resulted in the exact opposite. Palestinians do not want to be led by the leadership Washington wants to engineer for them either."
Palestinian-American political analyst Yousef Munayyer summarizes a PCPSR poll on current Palestinian opinion in a thread of tweets on December 13, 2023.
"The latest PCPSR poll of Palestinian public opinion is out and I am going to share some of the highlights from this poll looking at Palestinian attitudes in this historic moment.
First, a couple words on this poll. PCPSR is the gold standard as far as Palestinian public opinion polling is concerned. Nothing is perfect but it is by far the best we have got for analysis.
This looks at Palestinian respondents in the West Bank, Gaza and Jerusalem (that's not all Palestinians of course) so understand what population the sample represents.
Also note that it is incredibly difficult to do polling in Gaza now. The poll notes it was conducted during the brief truce to ensure some modicum of safety for the researchers.
The majority of respondents 81%, believe Hamas' attack on 10/7 was a response to longstanding Israeli attacks on Palestinians and their holy places and aimed at releasing prisoners.
The majority of respondents 72%, believe that the decision to launch the attack on 10/7 was the right one despite the costs that followed. (82% in the WB and 57% in Gaza)
The popularity of Hamas has gone up significantly (pretty common during Israel's wars on Gaza) More respondents say they are satisfied with the role of the Hamas movement (72%) than any other Palestinian actor. Mahmoud Abbas gets 11%.
In terms of satisfaction with the role of regional actors, Yemen is the most popular with 80% support. Saudi Arabia the least 5%.
As far as international actors go, respondents are not very satisfied by any. The position of Russia (22%) and China (20%) is most popular. No surprises about the least, the US (1%)
88% of respondents want Mahmoud Abbas to resign. Reminder, this is the man Biden says he wants to put in charge of Gaza
If elections were held today, 51% of respondents say they would vote for the Hamas slate, 19% for Fatah.
65% believe the two-state solution is no longer practical. 69% support a return to armed confrontations (up 11% from September).
The number supporting armed struggle in the West Bank alone 68%, has doubled over two years.
Bottom line: Israel's war of mass destruction has not resulted in making Palestinians less likely to support Hamas or the use to arms, it has resulted in the exact opposite. Palestinians do not want to be led by the leadership Washington wants to engineer for them either.
Link to the entire poll is here: pcpsr.org/en/node/961"

do u really not see the difference btwn writing fanfic on the internet and buying a game whose storyline is actively being written by white supremacists and having the money go directly into the pocket of the most vocal & influential terf in the UK? that's not even touching all of the other racist and offensive bs in her series inc her antisemitism, appropriating first nations cultures, her asian racism, etc? i guess thats why you dont have 'antisemitics dni' on your blog
First, let me be clear – I do not give one single shit about Harry Potter. They are the best memories of my extremely shitty adolescence, I still read fanfic from time to time, but other than that, if I never hear the word "Harry Potter" again it will be too soon. I care about the fact that you clowns are
encouraging bullies and endangering mentally ill marginalized fans
leeching the air from leftist and queer discourse
fuelling a Western culture war that distracts from combating systemic transphobia
making suffering Black and brown communities, who mostly see white and Western trans people, think that trans people don't have any real problems beyond video games
Now, on to your ask:
I said never said not buying the game was the same as writing fanfic on the internet. I said that the furor over buying the game is leading to everyone who had anything to do with Harry Potter, including just writing fanfic, being bullied. I've had to unfollow so many people for reblogging posts attacking people for being in the *fandom*.
Asking people to refrain from doing something to prove that they care, especially demanding that they don't, has never in the history of activism worked. Black people have been speaking out against copaganda shows forever and STILL get harrassed. Indigenous people have been asking people to boycott Avatar and gotten nothing. Some people comply, but more do the thing simply out of contrarianism, and the entire issue becomes a culture war divided along political affiliation. People on the right go out of their way to do the thing, the people on the center and center-left won't really care, and people who identify as leftist divorce themselves even more from the rest of the left as being no better than the right, which eventually devastating results when it comes to actual elections and agitating for political change.
What works a lot better is harm reduction. Pirating is harm reduction, asking the HP fandom to offset JKR's fuckery by making their own merch, promoting indie games and donating to trans healthcare funds is harm reduction. People won't stand for being policed, but they like giving and also not paying for stuff with a clear conscience. You would have raised so much fucking money and promoted so many different things in all this time you've spent giving the game negative engagement clicks and keeping it trending on social media so long after its release.
You keep insisting that people shouldn't be fans because JKR equals her fandom with her own influence. This is called buying into the right-wing narrative. The woman is delusional (I can't think of a non-ableist word atm, and I honestly think that she's not all stable) and you're enabling her and her terf cult. We created the online HP fandom ourselves back in the aughts, before there was any merch, before movie rights were ever sold to WB, a full decade before her advertising machine ever woke up to the fact that an internet fandom existed. JKR has lost relevance for HP fans a long time ago; imagine the slap in the face for her if the fandom starts countering her bigotry by very prominently engaging in trans activism? The JKR terf cult in the HP fandom are a minority, like TERFs themselves (they're only so loud because the right-wing promotes the shit out of them). The vast majority of fans are just the kind of vaguely well-meaning cis people who don't agree with transphobes but are pretty ignorant about trans issues. And I do mean the vast majority, because literally a billion people grew up on her books and only a bare fraction is on social media at all, and even fewer even see the leftist drive to boycott the franchise.
Let's talk demographics. Because of the aforementioned vastness of consumers, the majority of HP fans are cis het, abled, neurotypical Millennials. Because of the way internet penetration works, the majority of HP fans online and even in fandom are white or Western. Leftist spaces mostly attract young and marginalized people, and transformative fandom is full of neurodivergent women and queer people. Which means the majority of people you're reaching are young queer neurodivergent people who have limited economic power themselves. And the people most vulnerable to and impacted by policing and harrassment are trans, Black and brown, Jewish, mentally ill, poor. Do you see the problem? You're policing the very bottom rungs of the socio-economic ladder on the off-chance of maybe influencing a privileged few who might give a damn.
This is literally why we say that boycotts, especially over social media, don't fucking work. Firstly because they penalize the most disenfranchised consumers, it's hard to reach enough people to even explain why they matter, it's hard to keep up with the constant discourse and changing information, and it relies entirely on performance. Someone can stay quiet or nod along furiously to whatever you're saying and then just...go out and buy the thing. Social censure doesn't work when you have the option of not having to face the consequences. Contrary to hellsite opinion, the Fantastic Beasts franchise died because it sucked, and Harry Potter is dying because it's fading from relevance and JKR is being an embarrassment. The wider market doesn't even know y'all exist.
As for the game being racist and antisemitic...you come on my blog, a South Asian who has been in fandom for twenty years, and try to tell me about racism in media???? NINETY-NINE PERCENT OF ALL MEDIA IS RACIST AND ANTISEMITIC YOU ABSOLUTE CLOWN. I'm from South Asia, our children grow up on books written by colonizers! LORD OF THE RINGS is white supremacy! NARNIA is white supremacy! Disney and Marvel is one of the biggest figures in US military industrial complex that razed the Middle East to the ground. It's so ubiquitous that we have to accept the racism and white supremacy as a matter of course to engage with any Western media! And even then fandom is so racist it's hard to even exist in it! We get run out of it when we try to talk about it. You suck on white supremacy every single day you live like it's your Mum's teat! Do you know what it's like to hear whiteys ranting that people who consume this one game they hate are being antisemitic and racist??? While still fawning??? Over cop shows???? And Disney???? And sending Black people??? Death threats??? Over a game???
I don't say "anti-Semites DNI" for the same reason I don't say "racists DNI". Nobody identifies as a racist or antisemite, that's not how systemic oppression works. Radfem and Zionist and Communist are political identities. Radical feminism is underpinned by transphobia and racism, Zionism is currently entrenched in Palestine occupation, Western communists refuse to acknowledge USSR and Global South genocides. See how that works?
Bitch, you didn't just come at me about JKR's indigenous cultural appropriation when I was among the few who were trying to discourage people from supporting Fantastic Beasts back in 2016 and literally got flamed for it. You people did not give a single shit about Natives back then, and you don't give one now. Just like you don't actually care about Jews and never did. I literally never heard about why and how openly alt-right people keep getting this kind of power and position in the gaming industry. Conversations about antisemitism in gaming and antisemitic tropes in entertainment haven't gotten this much traction. No wider revelations about how entertainment media directly funding and promoting social harms. But sure, it's about antisemitism and racism and has absolutely nothing to do with a mess of white queers realizing they can weaponize it like a cudgel against anyone they believe are against them. We know you whites. You care about excuses to take the moral high ground without having to do any self-interrogation or cost to yourself.
Finally, to give y'all one example of where the current discourse around this stupid shit is at:
Tumblr media
Fuck you.

TIL that the first female Member of Parliament in the UK was Constance Markievicz who was a countess born into an upper class family of Protestant Anglo-Irish origin but she never actually sat at Westminster because Markievicz was elected as a member of Sinn Fein and a lifelong supporter of the Irish nationalist movement and supported the anti-Treaty side during the civil war. So like, if the UK doesn’t commemorate her as much as you’d think the first woman elected to parliament would be, I think that’s why
Also
In 1908, Markievicz became actively involved in nationalist politics in Ireland. She joined Sinn Féin and Inghinidhe na hÉireann ('Daughters of Ireland'), a revolutionary women's movement founded by the actress and activist Maud Gonne, muse of WB Yeats. Markievicz came directly to her first meeting from a function at Dublin Castle, the seat of British rule in Ireland, wearing a satin ball gown and a diamond tiara. Naturally, the members looked upon her with some hostility. This refreshing change from being ‘"kowtowed" to’ as a countess only made her more eager to join, she told her friend Helena Molony.
She seems cool

Honestly I can't even imagine how our near future will look like. I just want to leave this state before terrorists (tmc politicians and memebers) starts attacking my house here in wb 😭
Exactly, people criticising bjp should know that conditions are so much bad in wb. This woman just needs to stop standing up for elections.

Mucha Lucha! Episodes 30, 31, 32...
Here's a bunch...
EPISODE 30
Tumblr media Tumblr media
WRONG! The storyboard artists have been labeled incorrectly on the document. Brat in the Hat was a joint effort I believe from Ricky Garduno and Greg Colton, whilst Election Daze was (I think) by Tina Kugler.
Again, Lili and myself were back in Sydney for a spell as these were being produced. We still made notes and suggestions, but we weren't present at WBA: we had our own animated mini-series in production (Cosmic Baby) and staff working in our Sydney studio, and so we divided our time between LA and Sydney.
Election Daze sticks out for me as I had an issue with our story editor over it. I really thought the premise was too much of a generic school story that had been done to death in countless other shows since the 1960s: Heck, Marcia even competed with Greg in The Brady Bunch in the same story back when I was a kid! But I was assured that it would be done with originality and would be different to what had come before. Was it? Let me know your thoughts :)
*edit: actually writer Ken Pontac must have been a Brady Bunch fan, as it combines ANOTHER BB story where Marcia competes with Greg's girlfriend to be head cheerleader and guess who has the deciding vote? That's right, Rikochet! Er, I mean...Greg!
EPISODE 31

Welcome back Gabe Swarr! Going through these I couldn't help being struck by the absence of Gabe. He started the season with Lone Stars, but it had been a LONG time since his last episode Chain Of Fools. Why? I remembered it was most likely due to the fact he was working on his own pilot at Disney based on his comic book 'Big Pants Mouse'. This made me realize that the board artists must not have been under any contract and worked strictly on an episode-to-episode basis - in house or remotely if they preferred. Gabe must have taken time away to work on his animated pilot.
But he came back with a bang, and completely made this episode - LATE NIGHT LUCHA - his own. This was one of the first times a board artist decided that they were going to design their own characters via their storyboard. It was a trend soon followed by Ricky and Greg. I heard some grumblings later from one of the season 2 character designers about this, but as far as Lili and I were concerned people like Gabe were all-round geniuses and we welcomed what he - and the others - came up with! In the end, the show itself was the winner!

You've heard it right? A wrestler is suspended (usually by WWE) and the reason is because they are in the process of battling 'personal demons', which was usually a euphemism for alcohol or painkillers. Well I decided to use it and came up with the story Flea's Personal Demons (again no credit).
Ah, Virtual Luchadores! All hail to the king - Ricky Garduno. Michael J. Prescott may be credited as having wrote it, but we know how writer credits work in the WB universe, so it could have been nothing more than the idea. This was ALL Ricky. I've blogged and posted about this one in a lot of detail (search #virtual luchadores or # virtual luchador to see previous posts), and I am still in awe of how great he/it was/is. We really were blessed with his brilliance.
And that's it for now...Eddie out :)

Don’t get me wrong — I’m all for settlers being removed from the WB and the occupation ending, but what is the plan to stop it from turning into Gaza 2.0 if that happens? We seen how Israel and settlers moving out of Gaza was quickly followed by Hamas being elected and then we had to deal with over a decade of their terrorism, and many people in the WB seem to be very happy with Hamas and they have a much larger population to recruit from. It’s concerning, to be quite honest.
For the record, I do not support removing the settlers. The age of declaring where Jews may not live is over. I support Israel annexing the largest settlement blocs closest to the '49 line, any impacted Palestinians gaining full citizenship and voting rights, and then denaturalizing all other settlers and withdrawing IDF jurisdiction from all other areas of the WB. It would now become a fully contiguous Palestinian state, housing about 300,000 Palestinian Jews paying their parking tickets in Arabic. If they don't like it, luckily they can make aliyah.
But that's not the problem. The problem is, as you said, the WB turning into a new Gaza, one atop a mountain range looking down on all of Israel's biggest cities. There would need to be supermassive, unprecedented cultural change within Palestinian society to have such an arrangement be trustworthy. I have no idea how they get there. And - again for the record - after Ben-Gvir gave tacit approval for settlers to rampage and pogrom through the WB with no repercussions, I can't bring myself to fully blame Palestinians for that anymore. The past 16-ish months have been so horrible. Things that had usually been lies have shifted to become usually true.

I understand why WB didn't say the PRT was essentially the government by 2011 (the American audience would've gone 100% ragemonkey mode) but it's still funny to me whenever a fic mentions government intervention somewhere because there's so many fucking Masters, Strangers and Thinkers running around. Like, you're gonna look me in the eye and tell me that BetUS has a fucking President? That people fucking vote for national elections in Bet? Are you shitting me? Literally half of the country is run by the Superpowered Mob and you gonna tell me people care about politicians above Mayor? Why?
