This one's a Skeb/Omakase/Surprise Me Style Commission ^^

I was really excited to see XanLena in Akiko's style! Akiko really delivered~ 🥺

I included the original version that Akiko initially drew as the 2nd image. Akiko's VGen Portfolio showcase has the version with the OG colours when the files were first submitted on VGen.

Since Selena is my KHR OC and my wife, XanLena is my go-to ship to commission (also because they have refs that are readily available, which makes things easier for the artists I commission)

I would love to commission Akiko for my other ships in the future 🙏

Colours of Love

Summary: You try to show your support to the Fukurodani Volleyball Club. However, you find the present to be imperfect so your tries boyfriend to help you.

Pairings: Akaashi Keiji x Fem! Reader

A/N: So I’m moving this and some of the other Haikyuu Fics from Wattpad cause this will be my main writing platform so ya. Anyways, having art classes with Akaashi Keiji would be a dream come true. Just saying, he's like literal bae ƪ(˘⌣˘)ʃ

Hands fast at work upon the blank canvas. The brush treated as part of you as you expertly paint, your right hand slaughtering the canvas while your left held the rest of the unused brushes. The repetition of dipping the brush in the pallet before slapping it on the paper became a blur of colours. As colours were splattered one after the other, the image began to develop like a polaroid.

Your head tilted to one side as you scrutinized the painting. Eyebrows furrowed and your bottom lip bitten as you tried concentrating on finding what was wrong with the painting. Grasping the edge of the table, you leaned closer to said item. Eyes darting from left to right, top to bottom with the mission to find the criminal. When you could not pinpoint the missing pieces, a click of your tongue proved your dissatisfaction. You held up the painting at arm's length as your nimble fingers traced the texture of the masterpiece. A permanent scowl depicted on your usually serene face as you could not figure out the puzzle.

Too engrossed in searching for the important detail, you failed to realise the quiet footsteps of your boyfriend nearing. Nor did you know when said person was admiring your work of art a meter behind you. Unfortunately, you missed the view of awe lighting up his eyes and decorating his usually stoic face but that would not go unnoticed for long. Sensing a presence behind you, you voiced out your distress without looking over your shoulders as you assumed it was your sensei. Oh, how wrong you were.

"I think it's a beautiful painting (y/n)-san."

Your eyes widened as you rigidly turned around. The painting now pressed tightly against your chest as your mind went into overdrive, trying to form a coherent sentence.

"Keiji! Wha-what are you doing h-here? Don't your prac-practice end later?" You squeaked.

He chuckled, "We ended earlier. Coach has an emergency back at home. Did I ruin a surprise?"

"You think? Tell me earlier next time!" a pout formed on your face as you glanced sideways, providing Akaashi a perfect view of your flaming cheeks.

He placed his bag on the ground before embracing his adorable girlfriend. "I can help you before you show it to the team."

"But it's a surprise! You're not supposed to see it before I actually show it to all of you!"

"I've seen it and I love it. Now, let's get started before you start having wrinkles."

The painting was delicately removed from your hands as you slapped his arm in mock hurt, "Akaashi Keiji!"

He just sent you a smirk before placing the painting on the table. Picking up the strewn brushes, he dipped it in the blob of colours to beautify the already amazing painting. You stood by his side, a soft smile tugging at your lips as you admire his concentrated face.

A light bulb appeared above your head when your (e/c) eyes reached the curve of his nose. A devilish smirk replaced your previously innocent facade. Your index finger inched towards the pallet while your eyes were glued to him, looking for signs that he took notice of your motive.

Within a blink of an eye, Akaashi's nose sported a white blob of paint. He blinked owlishly before his eyes zoned in on the white patch. A smile tugged at his lips when he made eye contact with you.

"Oh no no no! You stay away from me mister!" You said as both your hands were held up in front of you.

"Come on (y/n), it's just paint," he retorted, a full-blown smirk on his pretty little lips as he stepped towards you.

Knowing that he would not give up, you quickly turned around and tried running away from him. Keyword: tried. Due to Akaashi's lightning reflexes, he caught you in an embrace.

"Keiji! Let go!" You squealed as you tried wriggling free.

"It won't be fair now would it if you escape after what you did to me."

Your squeals increased tenfold when the wet brush caressed your cheek. Carefree laughs and giggles resonated around the room as the both of you engage in a paint war, splattering some on your uniforms along the way. The painting on the table long forgotten as you chased each other around the room with promises of catching the other escaping both of your lips.

After running out of ammo, you both declared peace in an embrace. The twinkle of joy in your eyes spoke of the words you dare not to say out loud for fear of ruining the moment.

"We should clean up," you mumbled half-heartedly. He hummed in response as you snuggled closer together in utter silence.

"Goodness me, what happened?" An all too familiar voice screeched.

You detached yourself from Akaashi and was faced with a not too happy art teacher.

"Sensei! Ano... Akaashi was just helping me!"

"Help you in what? Painting the whole room? Clean this place up now!"

She huffed in annoyance and briskly walked away, "When I come back, this place better be pristine."

You looked over at Akaashi who was making his way back to the table with the painting. "Want to start now?"

"Let me just do the final touches."

You skipped over to him, hugging him by the waist from behind. Your hands drew delicate shapes on his lower abs while you hummed a tune muffled by his jacket while his scent almost lulls you to sleep. Moments like these are the ones you truly appreciate, especially when the volleyball team is conducting more and more training with inter-high dawning on them. You truly hoped that your little present will motivate the team despite how mundane it was.

"(y/n)-san, I'm done. Do you want to start cleaning up?"

The only response Akaashi received was a low whisper of incoherent strings of words. He chuckled before prying your arms from his waist. When he turned himself around, he was greeted by your droopy eyes and adorable pout. Your puppy-like demeanor tugged at his heartstrings causing him to plant pecks of love all over your face despite the dried paints.

"Thank you. For everything," his breath tickled your lips as he pressed his forehead to yours. "Let's go home (y/n)-san. We'll clean up tomorrow."

Bonus:

"Wahhhh! (y/l/n) your painting is so cool! Is that me? Oyaoya! You got my hair colour right! That pose is so cool! You're so cool (y/l/n)!" The owl-like captain then proceeded to entrap you in a deathly hug.

You could only laugh in amusement and return the hug to the childlike senpai. Without a warning, he picked you up and spun you in circles screaming all the compliments you've heard beforehand.

"Bokuto-san please put (y/n)-san down."

"Akaashi! Did you see her painting? She drew us on the court! It's so cool! (y/l/n) can you draw me next? I can pose for you if you want!"

You covered a hand over your mouth trying to stop your giggles from escaping. Akaashi was trying to calm down his all too enthusiastic captain while he was hard at work posing for you. The rest of the team snickered in amusement in the background. Little did you know that the painting not only encouraged them to do better but perform their best in every one of their training in hopes to thank you for your endless support. Besides, they could not disappoint their fans.

Her name is Nguyễn Selena, and her Vietnamese name is Nguyễn Nguyệt Vân Liên. Her Viet name, Liên, means "lotus" in Sino-Viet 🪷

She is a Viet NB assassin with a calm and aloof personality, who's reserved and mainly keeps to herself, but cheerful around people she's close to. Her design is NB flag colours 💜🖤🤍💛

She has an interest in gardening (collecting flowers, plants, learning about different types of poisons), and fashion (collecting clothes, including traditional clothes) 💐👗

The round lines and shapes... OMGGG ✨ I love the colours too!

I love how Hika drew Selena's eyelashes and underlashes with the dots...

I asked Hika to draw TYL Xanxus' design since I felt like his TYL (Ten Years Later) design would be easier to draw.

Hika originally chose a dark blue BG colour for the both of them, but changed it to yellow and red respectively to make them stand out more!

The blue ones were nice, but omg the final versions Hika went with, do reflect their actual colours better. These fit them better! Matching eye colors (plus it makes their hair stand out from the BG more)

Since Selena and Xanxus are toned with blue/purple in Hika's colours, the new BGs have more visual contrast!

Hika was very accommodating with minor colour edits and revisions as well! 🙏

I wanna commission Hika to draw JuAli and IdaTatsu with my headcanon designs of them in the future 🥰💘✨

I feel like the KHR ani style goes for a much more generic art style, compared to Amano's unique art style.

For Xanxus' late manga design (Rainbow arc Xanxus), Amano improves the shape of his hair and makes it more wavy and easier to draw.

Amano has an amazing art style, and really detailed lineart and inking. She's one of the biggest inspirations for me. Her style was honestly very inspirational for me...

I started drawing everyday as a kid (at 11) BECAUSE of KHR, so KHR is very important and personal to me. I first watched KHR and read the manga at 11.

Amano's style is honestly defining to my style - It shows in the way I draw faces and eyes.

I'm not big on the KHR ani's art style, but I do appreciate what it gave us with the chibi interviews, character songs, etc. It's also cuz of the KHR ani that we (somehow) get endless KHR merch.

I prefer the manga designs, but I prefer the ani's colours for the charas because the KHR ani generally gave the KHR cast more skintone variety (when everyone was pasty in the original manga)

The KHR ani did such a great job by giving the KHR charas more skintone variety... Even pale charas in the KHR ani have different skin tones from each other.

Original vs. My Edit

I headcanon Xanxus to have tanner/warmer skin.

Xanxus with darker skin (olive skin in the KHR ani, and either olive or tan skin in certain KHR ani merch arts), literally just looks better from a character design perspective, imo. That's just facts 📠

His design has much better colour contrast with the ani colours. Like the black and red colours in his design contrast better with darker skin. Also against his blood/wine red eyes. It has more colour harmony and cohesiveness in terms of the colours

Xanxus with pale skin has less cohesiveness in terms of the colours

Xanxus, Yamamoto, and Ryouhei's designs just look so much more boring, pale, imo.

For KHR, I go manga design + ani colours + my own take on the ani colours.

Since I have a tendency to saturate colours with my own arts.

As a personal HC, I think Xanxus has a very mixed ethnicity.

My Italian American friend Feuri said Southern Italy and namely Sicily has a more mixed population.

The ani colours provide a good base for me to work off of for me to improve the colours :3

I do colour edits for fun. I like playing around with colours (editing official arts to see how the colours work together) to help guide my arts. I either do colour edits first or just immediately start picking colours for my arts

I usually hand artists a Drive folder filled with XanLena's art refs (including my own doodles) and write some notes on their design details since this makes things easier for the artists I'm commissioning.

Selena is Vietnamese/SEAsian with light tanned skin. She has black hair with a long ponytail that goes down to around the same length as her long front hair strands, and wears a white blouse with frills and a black seam with white buttons. She wears a black pleated skirt with a white line near the ends, and black thigh highs with horizontal white diamonds, and black doll-like shoes.

Since Xanxus wears a brown fluffy accessory, red feathers (that may be dyed red -> orange -> yellow), green strings with red beads, I don't mind if the artists I comm simplify these details.

So, whenever I commission artists, I ask for them to draw my HC versions! I'm very glad that all the artists I've commissioned have been very accommodating! 🙏💖

The modern remakes of old 90s - 2000s animes have such boring and bland dull colours to me.

I seriously fear that if they ever do a KHR remake or reboot, that they're gonna take away the OG KHR ani's better colours and make everyone look pasty pale (just like in the manga) just for "manga authenticity" and "loyalty to the source material" even though everyone looks so much more boring pasty pale!!! 🧍
