CONNOR and CAITLIN — My Headcanons

Since American steam locomotives are a thing in Thomas and Friends, I am quite weirded out with Connor and Caitlin's in-television designs since they are based on American streamliners. The production didn't even look up different streamliners from the United Kingdom and missed out on a handful of interesting trains such as the LNER W1 Hush-Hush, LMS Streamlined Coronation Scot, the P2's and many more. For my headcanons for the two Streamliners of Sir Robert Norramby, I made Connor and Caitlin an LNER P2 (fictional) Prototype and an LMS Coronation class to fit the series' theme of British Steam Locomotives.

Headcanons for Connor

Connor is now an LNER P2, specifically a fictional prototype just like Gordon.

He is now painted Blue to match the color scheme of the A4's and their Coronation liveries. However, Connor's wheels are black instead of red.

Prior to being painted Blue, he was once Green like many of the LNER's engines.

His personality is rather snarky and would often tease anyone as well as rolling stock and humans.

He is numbered 2000 and is named "Lord Connor".

He used to pull the Coronation, a train service from London to Edinburgh.

Connor was the first to be purchased and saved from scrap by Sir Robert Norramby. He would be heartbroken to find that Caitlin wasn't rescued until 1971.

Headcanons for Caitlin

Caitlin is now an LMS Coronation class locomotive.

Her streamlining works as follows: A spare firebox door was specially built for Caitlin and the other Coronations to cover up the smokebox. Whenever their casings are removed, their original smokebox doors are placed back. The face that you see in Caitlin's illustration IS her original smokebox door, while the one inside the casing is the spare one.

Her number is 6249 and is named "City of Sheffield", a real-life locomotive. Caitlin hated that name and would often get called as "Sheff" from many of her colleagues, especially Connor. She would call herself "Caitlin" since it suited her better.

She is quite friendly to everybody, but gets easily irritated whenever someone teases her or hears an annoying sound like screeching.

She once pulled the Coronation Scot, a train service from London to Edinburgh.

Caitlin was rescued from the scrapyard in 1968, months after Connor. She was purchased by Sir Robert Norramby with financial support from Sir Charles Topham Hatt.

She was restored to working order in 1971 where she surprised Connor.

Headcanons in General

Connor and Caitlin's character dynamic in the show is similar to Hercules and Lillie Lightship from Tugs. Both are portrayed as lovers.

Connor first met Caitlin in the 1930's. He tried racing her to Scotland but ran out of water after refusing to scoop up water from a trough along the way. He was scolded by the Stationmaster and was reported to the LNER's head office for his reckless and irresponsible behavior.

During World War II, both engines shared a close relationship. They would often help one another until they became very close like star-crossed lovers.

Both engines were out of service by the 1960's. Connor was the only engine in his class to have never been streamlined, while Caitlin continued her British Railways career without her casing.

Connor fell into a deep depression after he was restored to working order, but he was informed by Sir Topham Hatt and Sir Robert Norramby that they will raise money to save Caitlin from the cutter's torch. His depression ended in 1971 when Caitlin arrived at Tidmouth Station with a passenger train.

Prior to Caitlin's restoration, she was transferred from the scrapyard to Crovan's Gate late at night so that Connor wouldn't see her. Sir Robert wanted to surprise him once Caitlin was restored to working order, but rumors by some engines say that a Coronation Class is in the Island being restored. The crew tried their best in hiding Caitlin by putting her in the shed so that her partner wouldn't see her, and tried their best in hushing up rumors.

The two engines pull special coaches with observation cars, or "Beavertails" as they are called. The TV show did not acknowledge their presence in real life, so I added them to stay true to railway history.

Connor: I'll race ya to Edinburgh, Sheff. See ya in the blink of an eye!

Caitlin: Do NOT call me that, you green goblin! Call me by my preferred name, CAITLIN!

Connor: Alright then, darling. If I reach Edinburgh, I still get to call you 'Sheff'. But if you reach there first, then I shall call you 'Caitlin'. Is it a deal?

Caitlin: It's a big fat damn deal. I'll race ya to Edinburgh!

Character 256: She took care of her class pets with her childhood bestie until she had to move away. As an adult, she hyperfixated on occult pseudoscience and started a business with her brother. She helped raise a clone of a coworker as her pseudo-son. She’s very flighty; it’s hard to know if she’ll really show up or not. She’s not really a fan of warm temperatures. She reunites with her best friend a few times; what happens next will shock you!

Another drama I like is hometown chachacha! :3 it’s soooo fluffy and cute and ughh god I wish that was me.

Hospital playlist is also really good! I’m pretty sure the female lead is the same as in hometown chachacha so that’s fun. It’s a really funny show! It definitely has its serious moments (cus it’s a hospital and like niggas be dying and shit so 😭) but they are so well done and it had me crying and throwing up bad. But overall it’s very wholesome and the osts are good :3

Prison playbook is also made by the ppl who made hospital playlist and features a lot of the same actors and actresses. Prison playbook actually came first so apparently there’s a lot of references to it in hospital playlist, but I watched hospital playlist first so I have no idea and I kinda don’t gaf regardless 😭😭😭😭

Ok the last one is castaway diva. That one is so quirky and weird and honestly a plot that istg only Korean ppl could come up with 😭😭 I actually haven’t finished watching it yet but so far I love it and I love the female lead’s satoori it’s so endearing to me

Okay I lied while I was writing the last one another one popped in my head. D.P. is highkey dark asf cus it’s basically about these two dudes who are in the Korean military and their job is to catch draft evaders and it explores how complex the reasons can be as to why some Korean men would take such a huge risk. It shows how some people abuse others in the military because of their highsr ranks. I think it’s based off of actual events that have happened but not completely

Yet another one popped into my head while writing the previous one 😭 it’s a movie though. It’s called 1987: when the day comes. It’s about the gwangju uprisings/june uprisings and the events that led to Korea becoming a democratic country. It definitely takes creative liberties and the story is not completely accurate but that’s not the point it’s such s beautiful story 💔💔

Okay only 2 more I swear cus I jsut keep thinking of other ones while writing each one 😭😭😭😭 if u haven’t seen it already plsplsplsplspls watch the handmaiden (also a movie). One of the best pieces of sapphic cinema of all time it’s definitely a must like it’s beautiful (it also has the same female lead as the previous one! But this was I think her first major role (which is a crazy way to debut if u think abt it😭))

Okay the last one fr is juvenile justice. Omg. It’s about this judge lady who is oversees cases for juveniles cus she fawking hates children bad (she has trauma) and it explores what leads some kids to act bad asf and how some kids actually are super deranged 😭 but it shows her journey of realizing not all the kids who come through her court are bad kids they just have shit circumstances that led them to doing the things they do

A lot more stories that Grant can make up with his model trains when he rebuilds his model railway layout.

Paxton’s package. Paxton the diesel engine received a special package at the harbor. Sir Topham Hatt said it’s a gift for Salty to celebrate the anniversary of when he first came to the island. And the gift was an antique anchor from one of the very first cargo ships to ever come to Sodor. Will Paxton be able to keep it hidden from Salty before his party at the docks?

Ulli and Oliver. Oliver the great western engine was going to work with Ulli, one of the diesel shunters from the mainland. He really hopes the diesel can handle Dulcie & Isabel the way he does.

Samantha’s Santa special. Samantha the purple saddle tank engine is very excited. She was going to pull the presents train, as well as pick a coach for Santa to ride in so he can go to his grotto and give out presents for the children.

Rosie and Hector. Rosie was requested to collect an extra large load of stone from the blue mountain quarry. Paxton would normally do it, but he was feeling sick. But Rosie was nervous because she had to carry the crushed stone in Hector. Rosie was still a little bit nervous about Hector because she still remembered that he frightened her on his first day on Sodor. Will Rosie be able to forgive Hector for scaring her?

Double Timothy trouble. It was almost Halloween, and Timothy the oil burning engine heard a story from Thomas that there’s a ghost engine who shares the same name as him. The oil burning engine was rather nervous, but he had to do something because there can be only one Timothy on Sodor.

Amanda’s ghost hunt. Amanda was requested to take some passengers to go trick or treating from station to station when she heard a story from Fizzy. It’s a story about another E2 tank engine. He’s not as scary as Timothy aka engine number zero. He is known as engine 17.

Engines in space. Jupiter and 119 were visiting Sodor from their American railroad because they were to help Thomas with a brand new place on the railway. It’s a long tunnel with cardboard models of the planets. It was to make them feel like they were in outer space.

Mixed traffic trains. Sir Topham Hatt is trying out a new railway experiment, mixed traffic trains, which are trains that have coaches and freight cars together. Gordon thought the idea was ridiculous because he says passengers and freight don’t mix. He wouldn’t want smelly freight too close to his passengers.

Fizzy fizzles out. Fizzy the red tank engine was shunting freight cars when the ballast trucks began making him very upset. He gave them such a bump that he and the trucks came off the rails. To make matters worse, his fire bars collapsed. So he couldn’t deliver Coca-Cola to the stations. So he was sent to be repaired and Poy had to deliver his freight cars for him.

Robin’s race. The engines on the Island of Sodor were being visited by some of the famous engines from the mainland. Jimmy the Jinty and some of his friends, Simon, Robin and Terry. Sir Topham Hatt had requested Shedmaster Jimmy to bring them to visit and lend a wheel or three for the summer holidays on Sodor. Robin explained he’s as quick as the robins that nested on him years ago and Thomas challenged him to a race after telling him that he can go faster than the wind. Who will win the race from the quarry and back to Knapford station?

Engine ten thousand. Gordon was feeling very excited because a very grand looking engine is coming to visit from the mainland. It was a class W1 engine who has the number 10000 on his cab. He was known as Hush-Hush. He had come to fill in for Rebecca when she was sent to the works to be fitted with new boiler tubes.

Stephen’s great race. Stephen was feeling very excited because it was the anniversary of when he won the Rainhill Trials many years ago. He wanted to find a way to celebrate his anniversary. So, the engines decided that Stephen should race a horse pulling a single wagon from Ulfstead Castle to Brendam Docks. Will Stephen show everyone, especially Diesel that he’s more than just an antique, but a reliable engine with the heart of a champion?

Tiger’s roaring whistle. One day, an old fashioned steam locomotive named Tiger was visiting the Island of Sodor. He used to work on the Liverpool and Manchester railway. After his long journey, he was given a new whistle that sounded a bit like a tiger roaring. Will he be able to put it to good use?

Henry and the holograms. Henry the green engine saw Ronnie the Amtrak engine was given a gift from Kenji in Japan. It was a hologram projector that will be fitted to the computer in his cab. A hologram is a three dimensional reproduction of an image. That way, Ronnie can download pictures from the web and make them look real. But Henry was a little bit worried that Ronnie might have trouble getting the hang of his new hologram projector.

Flash dashes in. A new high speed train has come to visit the Island of Sodor. His name is Flash. He’s 4 years old and he is eager to impress the other engines. But will he be able to fit in with Thomas and the other engines?

Diesels and Daleks. The engines were having an anniversary party for the show known as Dr. Who. Diesel, Timmy, Splatter and Dodge teased Percy and Poy about the Daleks coming to send the steam engines to the scrap heap by blasting their boilers to bits. The two little green engines felt rather nervous. But then Thomas had a naughty idea on how to teach Diesel and his pals a lesson. He spoke to Ruth the inventor, who had created remote control replicas of the Daleks for the party to help prank the diesel engines. And that night, just before the party began, they used them to scare the four diesels into thinking they were going to exterminate them.

They made a GTEL of their own, which was meant to run on coal, to see if it’d be better than gas.

They use a modified ALCO PA-1 as the cab…

The chassis of a GNR W1 class electric locomotive, which was bought for scrap from the Great Northern Railway, for the B unit (which carried the main power plant for the turbine) (and this unit carried the turbine prime mover from either a 1st or 2nd gen GTEL)…

And the tender of 4-6-6-4 Challenger #3990…

all this ended up with a wheel arrangement of A1A-A1A+2-D+D-2, which translated to 18 axels (which 12 were powered)

Once put together, the set up had 7000 horsepower and was originally numbered 80, but was changed to 8080 later, in order to avoid confusion with EMD DD35 booster units that were being introduced.

But this thing didn’t work well at all. The blade erosion and soot buildup, which was already kinda an issue with the earlier with the gas-burning GTELs, was WAY worse when using coal. If that wasn’t enough, grinding coal into particles (to avoid as much erosion as possible) was a pain. As a result, this experiment was declared a failure, and 8080 was scrapped after 20 months of service.

But fun fact; during that time, 8080 was the heaviest locomotive ever, weighing at 661 TONS.

My workspace is literally all over the place because I just work wherever I get the chance but, this week's reading was really interesting to me. My favorite section of the reading would be "Enlightenment and Abstraction"; I loved learning that eighteenth-century typography was influenced by hand writing and penmanship. I love typography, it's one of my favorite things I get to learn to become a better artist. I also loved getting to learn about Gothic type, which was made in the nineteenth-century. I like typefaces that are in your face and bold. When it comes to being in class, I was very nervous, I'm not really an "art" major like the rest of the students, I'm a communications major so I'm pretty behind in artistic abilities. I really haven't taken any art classes, just digital design courses in High School/last semester. The gridlines were and still are difficult for me to do because my hands are super shaky when it comes to writing and the load of stress to make it perfect often gets to me but I think I'll do a good job at completing this project without having any background in art.

I’ve seen you mention a post talking about the Hogwarts’ class schedules and how Hermione didn’t actually need a time turner, so I was wondering if you knew how I can find it off the top your head? I want to check it out, but I’ve never seen it and I’m not sure the key words to search

There are several schedule examples/options out there, the only one I could find right now is this one:

If you dig around Reddit (google "did hermione need a time turner"/"hogwarts schedule examples") you will find more.

But pretty much just looking at the number of subjects they have, even if she was studying stuff like alchemy that's only possible since 6th year, there is just... not enough subjects to overbook your schedule to a point you will need a time-turner.

This isn't rocket science. They aren't studying anything. They don't even have a separate dueling class. The canon Hogwarts schedule is laughable.

Character 298: She's a snarky, morally questionable AI lady who hates her job and has little to no regard for human life in general. She often threatens to kill her employees, she killed her programmers, she adores the movie Cats(2019) to an upsetting degree, she likes to make up nicknames for people, she just wants a holiday and frequently takes simulated spa breaks. She's even bisexual!

Character 145: A genius in every field possible - one would think their life would be handed on a silver platter, but you'd be wrong. Having a parent that just ruins every aspect of your hard work with useless talk about strength is a reason enough. But that doesn't stop them from trying to finally learn of a proper way to "lead" in every field, especially in their class. Not only cool design-wise, but also how the series manages to flesh out this minor villain in only a couple of scenes they are in is baffling.
