Malaysia Trip (4 Nights 5 Days Trip)
A summarized blog post about my first time at Kuala Lumpur.
It was the last few chances to go for an overseas trip in my final year of school so why the heck not despite not knowing anyone in the trip.
DAY 1 (26TH SEPTEMBER 2023):
Heading off to Malaysia via Bus~
Didn't expect to see so many trees in the next few hours. Would have thought I spend the few hours in the bus drawing or doing something productive but no I just knocked out half of the ride, I guess this is what happens when you hit the adult age
Once we arrived to our hotel rooms -> A view from my room! ( Happy to say I had a real sweet roommate during this trip☺)
Dinner time aka Group of introverts battling their way through salespeople challenge
also lizard 🦎 I was hoping to see more lizards but this was the only one I saw through this trip
"hallo"
DAY 2: (27TH SEPTEMBER 2023)
Little do my legs know we are gonna have a leg day in the next two days.
On our way to Lemonsky Studio & Inspidea Studio vrrr ( Saw my fellow schoolmates interning at Inspidea as well! glad they recognized me haha covid has cause us to not know our class well)
Studio 1: Lemonsky Studio
Such a humongous studio with so many colleagues wowza and they had a cool lounge area with arcade games and gachas! It was cute how they named each room or door based on the big projects they worked with. My fellow colleagues lets meet at the final fantasy room
Also the number of projects they worked with, W o w
Brought home two of their postcards of the projects they worked with, Ratchet & Clank and Diavolo! ( I don't play these two games ! :D <- not a gamer ) I just thought the monster in the Diavolo postcard looks cute
Quick stop to the mall after that: (The speedrun of a quick bite so we can check out the anime store goal - My team's objective)
Spoiler: The anime store was boring but the arcade store next door wasn't! but it sure took some of our money like this darn clown claw machine which was bloody BROKEN and my coins are gone with it Damn cute clowns.... But is okay I got the highlight of this whole trip, my wittle lizard guy in a gacha machine. I luv him <3
Studio 2: Inspidea Studio
Their office was smaller than Lemonsky Studio but it was very cozy and welcoming. Their "head animator boss" was real cool -> image below
Oh to work there and have feline colleagues~
Was real neat to see my schoolmates currently interning there and hearing how their time was in an overseas internship. A studio that is still doing 2D Work and illustration was nice to see in this trip as it has mostly been 3D targeted sighhh
Next Stop: Batu Cave ( RIP My legs)
Off with 200 Steps up to the cave with monkeys eyeing you for food.
I came back down with having beef with these monkeys for trying to steal my drink. One of them stole one of our mountain dew and down it like a true gamer.
The view at the top was very worth it in the end also BIG chickens
and cat
With sore legs, we return to Pavillion Mall for dinner and shortly after I got lost 💞 (Is okay I was found)
Back to the hotel room, sore
DAY 3 (28TH SEPTEMBER 2023):
The actual reason why this overseas trip was a thing, a convention at KLCC with various animation/games studio and talks coming in to talk.
Drew DJ Subatomic Supernova and my guy at Inspidea Studio Booth's
SNUFKIN FROM FINNISH ANIMATION MOOMIN?!
also twin tower
Talked to Tenten Studio and listened into a talk about working in concept art for games. Got an interesting advice that they would be interested to see process of how you design the character/prop/environment from research in your portfolio. Though I don't know if I have the interest to grind my skills up to the level of a Games Concept Artist
Alright cutting this off as Part 1 of the blog | PART 2

An outlook to some Malaysian history
The surroundings seen from the skybridge between the two Petronas Towers, 42 floors up/170 meter above ground, contains some architectural landmarks as well.
In front is the Menara Public Bank (Tower Public Bank, the Malaysian name of the Petronas tower is Menara Petronas). Public Bank group of Malaysia is the largest bank in shareholder value in the country. It spreads its operations into several branches all over ASEAN, targeting retail and SME customers. The MPB is 170 meter tall, as high as the skybridge, but placed on a lower level slope.
W Hotel Kuala Lumpur to the left is like what you expect of a W hotel anywhere in the world.
Business and professional services all around
Wisma Golden Eagle Realty is the four blocks between W and MPB. They are office blocks rented to different businesses and organisations.
Australian High Commission is the lower building to the right of Menara Tower. Malaysia is still part of the British Commonwealth, as is Australia. Embassy-level diplomatic posts are called High Commissions within commonwealth nations, Embassy when situated in sovereign and fully independent nations. They provide consular assistance for Australians in Malaysia.
AmBank Jalan Yap Kwan Seng is the tall Tower to the right. Ambank provides a wide range of bank and financial services within its different branches, including banking styled by islamic rules. Its largest owner is the Austrialan ANZ Banking group. The Tower is the 29th tallest in KL.
The 19 floor tall Bangunan Getah Asli (Menara) to the lower right is one of the oldest office buildings in the area, built in the 1980s. The green roof smaller building is mostly carparking, with some smaller service outlets outside.
A view to the park
The view on the other side is mainly to the KLCC garden and leisure area. And northern Kuala Lumpur.

Malaysia. Pobiegałem trochę z całym dobytkiem po ulicach, aby w końcu odnaleźć Coral Hostel w Little India. Zapachy, kolorowe sari, niesamowita kuchnia, hinduski pop i przeboje z Bollywood. Tutaj wszystko w jednej małej dzielnicy. Po paru dniach w Georgetown wskakuję w tani, nowoczesny autobus i piękną autostradą zbudowaną w środku dżungli śmigam do Kuala Lumpur. #malaysia #kualalumpur #penang #melaka https://www.instagram.com/p/CAxNQZFnCO9/?igshid=1iaketlxamdku

By Barry Grey
17 September 2019
Last week, it was revealed that the Trump administration has taken extraordinary steps to continue the 18-year cover-up of Saudi government involvement in the September 11, 2001 terror attacks.
On Thursday, September 12, one day after the 18th anniversary of the attacks on New York and Washington that killed nearly 3,000 people, a federal court filing revealed that Attorney General William Barr has asserted the "state secrets" privilege to block the release of an FBI report detailing extensive relations between some of the 19 hijackers and Saudi government officials. Victims of the attacks and their families are pushing for access to the 2007 report as part of a lawsuit against the Saudi government launched in 2003 charging the despotic monarchy with coordinating the mass killings.
Barr declared there was a “reasonable danger” that releasing the report would “risk significant harm to national security.”
The court filing also revealed that the FBI has agreed to turn over to the families’ lawyers the name of a Saudi individual that is redacted in a four-page summary of the FBI report released in 2012. The summary lays out evidence concerning three Saudis who provided money and otherwise assisted two of the hijackers in California in finding housing, obtaining driver’s licenses and other matters.
Government investigations have established that the two people who are named in the FBI summary, Fahad al-Thumairy, a former Saudi consulate official, and Omar al-Bayoumi, suspected by the FBI of being a Saudi intelligence officer, were working in coordination with the Saudi regime. The third person, whose name is redacted, is described in the FBI summary as having assigned the other two to assist the hijackers.
Lawyers for the families last year subpoenaed the FBI for an unredacted copy of the summary based on the contention that the third person was a senior Saudi official. But as part of the court filing, citing the “exceptional nature of the case,” the FBI issued a protective seal to prevent the name of the third Saudi from becoming public. The agency also refused to provide any of the other information requested by the families.
An FBI official said the agency was shielding the name to protect classified information related to “ongoing investigations” and to protect its “sources and methods.”
In fact, the extraordinary measures taken to conceal the role of the Saudi regime in the 9/11 attacks are driven by the need of US imperialism to maintain its reactionary alliance with the Saudi sheiks and continue the false cover story on 9/11 that has served as an ideological pillar for aggression in the Middle East and the buildup of a police-state infrastructure within the US, carried out in the name of fighting a “war on terror.”
The Saudi monarchy has been a key ally of the United States in the Middle East for 70 years, and since 9/11 it has become, alongside Israel, Washington’s most important partner in the region. It has played a central role in the bloody wars for regime change in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria and Yemen, which have killed more than a million people and destroyed entire societies. It is also the world’s biggest purchaser of US arms.
Its intelligence agencies have long worked in the closest collaboration with the CIA and the FBI. The exposure of Saudi complicity in 9/11 immediately implicates sections of the US intelligence establishment in facilitating, it not actively aiding, the terror attacks, and sheds light on the multiple unanswered questions about how 19 men, 15 of whom were Saudi nationals, could carry out such a complex operation.
The 9/11 attacks were eagerly seized upon by the George W. Bush administration, with the support of the Democratic Party and media allies such as the New York Times, to implement longstanding plans to wage aggressive war in the Middle East.
The cover-up of Saudi involvement has been carried out over three administrations, Democratic and Republican alike. It began within hours of the attacks themselves. Eight days after the attacks, at least 13 relatives of Osama bin Laden, accompanied by bodyguards and associates, were allowed to secretly leave the US on a chartered flight. One of the passengers, a nephew of the supposed number one on Washington’s “most wanted” list, had been linked by the FBI to a suspected terrorist organization.
The US association with bin Laden went back decades. Under the CIA’s Operation Cyclone, conducted between 1979 and 1989, the US and Saudi Arabia provided $40 billion worth of financial aid and weapons to the mujahedeen “freedom fighters” waging war against Soviet forces in Afghanistan, an operation in which then-US ally bin Laden played a key role. The proxy war in Afghanistan was pivotal in the later creation of Al Qaeda.
In July of 2016, the US government released to the public a 28-page section, suppressed for 14 years, of a joint congressional inquiry into 9/11. The 28-page chapter dealt with the role of the Saudi government and contained abundant and damning evidence of extensive Saudi support for the 9/11 hijackers in the period leading up to the attacks.
Among its revelations were:
▪ Two of the Saudi hijackers, Khalid al-Mihdhar and Nawaf al-Hazmi, lived for a time in Los Angeles and San Diego in 2000, where they obtained pilot training. They were given money and lodgings by Omar al-Bayoumi, who worked closely with an emir at the Saudi Defense Ministry. Both were under CIA surveillance while attending an Al Qaeda planning meeting in 2000 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and placed on a “watch list” for FBI monitoring if they came to the United States. Nonetheless they were allowed to enter the US on January 15, 2000.
▪ Al-Bayoumi “received support from a Saudi company affiliated with the Saudi Ministry of Defense,” drawing a paycheck for a no-show job. The company also had ties to Osama bin Laden. His allowances jumped almost tenfold after the arrival of al-Hazmi and al-Mihdhar. Al-Bayoumi had found an apartment for the two, which they shared with an informant for the San Diego FBI, advancing them a deposit on the first month’s rent.
▪ Al-Bayoumi’s wife received a $1,200 a month stipend from the wife of Prince Bandar, then the Saudi ambassador to the US and later head of Saudi intelligence. The wife of his associate, Osama Bassnan, identified by the FBI as a supporter of bin Laden, received $2,000 a month from Bandar’s wife.
▪ Three of the hijackers stayed at the same Virginia hotel as Saleh al-Hussayen, a Saudi Interior Ministry official, the night before the attacks.
Despite such evidence, and much more, the bipartisan 9/11 Commission appointed by George W. Bush concluded that there was no conclusive evidence that “senior” Saudi officials played a role in the 9/11 attacks. When the 28-page section of the congressional report was released in 2016, Obama’s CIA director, John Brennan, denounced all suggestions of Saudi involvement as baseless.
However, former Secretary of the Navy John Lehman, a member of the 9/11 Commission, said, “There was an awful lot of participation by Saudi individuals in supporting the hijackers, and some of those people worked in the Saudi government.”
Former Democratic Senator Robert Graham, cochair of the Joint Congressional Inquiry into the 9/11 attacks, said that there was “a pervasive pattern of covering up the role of Saudi Arabia in 9/11 by all of the agencies of the federal government, which have access to information that might illuminate Saudi Arabia’s role in 9/11.”
In the lawsuit filed by the families of the victims, he filed an affidavit that stated, “I am convinced that there was a direct line between at least some of the terrorists who carried out the Sept. 11 attacks and the government of Saudi Arabia.”
It is significant, but not surprising, that the corporate media has given only the most perfunctory and muted coverage to the moves by the Trump administration to once again suppress the role of the Saudi regime in 9/11, and the Democrats have been completely silent.
One should compare this response to damning evidence of Saudi culpability and US cover-up in relation to an event that took nearly 3,000 lives to the hysteria of the anti-Russia witch hunt led by the Democratic Party, the New York Times and the bulk of the media, based on completely unsubstantiated charges.

2. These towers - It's late on a a Friday night after a really long week, and this is always the comforting view, at 3 am with old or new friends. And when I think that I can move to a different country and be happy, I realize that no matter where I go to, I'll never be able to see this. Not at 3 am, not at a different city or country, no matter where I go to. And that's when I know how special this place is. Happy Merdeka, Malaysia. I don't wanna keep celebrating our Independence from the Brits after 62 years, but I am genuinely thankful that you are what you are to me. WHY?
We have often been asked about the judging process for KLPA and since many people are interested to know the decision-making process, perhaps this could be educational to them in evaluating their own photography. Logistically, we are unable to record the entire process, unfortunately.
At KLPA, we are selective of our judges and over the 10 years, we try to cast a fairly wide net, although, they are by and large in the arts industries, and mainly photographers, curators, educators, artists and editors.
[Read last year’s report by Raja Indra Putra - observer here ]
Many contests hold online judging, where jurors from across the world make their selections on their own, online, but for KLPA, we truly value the face-to-face live discussions and interactions, where ideas and thoughts are often exchanged, sometimes heated (but always for the sake of the art form, and calmed by gallons of coffee).
When judging photography contests, objectivity matters a lot, and the visual knowledge and depth of a juror is therefore important, in being able to defend one’s selection. However, it is also important to lend credence and value to a wide range of subjective emotive responses and broad audiences, so as not to be ‘industry blinkered’. Ultimately, a good portrait will always be valued and acknowledged.
This is a fantastic opportunity and an invaluable experience for one lucky person from the general public to participate as an observer in the selection process, and to listen in on the discussions and exchanges that the public isn’t so often privy to, since most if not all judgings events are closed sessions.
KLPA would like to thank all our past jurors for 10 years from 2009 :
