Day 23 of Black History Month challenge: One black history post everyday for the entire month. . . On March 31, 1870, one day after the ratification of the 15th Amendment, which allowed him the right to vote, Thomas Peterson became the first African American to cast a ballot in a U.S. election under the provisions of the 15th Amendment. The citizens of Perth Amboy, N.J. were voting to settle a disagreement over whether to revise the town charter or abandon it in favor of a township form of government. . . Peterson cast his historic vote on March 31, 1870. The iconic vote was cast in a local election in Perth Amboy, New Jersey for the town’s charter. Gary Sullivan of the News Tribune stated, “Exercising his right to vote in a local election on March 31, 1870. Peterson became the first black man in the United States to cast a ballot. The amendment had been ratified on February 3, 1870, and within just two months the Fifteenth Amendment was put to use. . . The citizens of Perth Amboy, New Jersey later awarded Thomas Mundy Peterson a medallion in 1884. The medallion had the face of Abraham Lincoln engraved on one side. While the side opposite to that the medallion reads “presented by citizens of Perth Amboy N.J. to Thomas Peterson the first colored voter in the U.S. under the provisions of the 15th Amendment at an election held in that city March 13, 1870.” These Reconstruction Amendments and The Emancipation Proclamation freed all African Americans in the Confederate States while the Fourteenth Amendment granted citizenship of the United States. TEA Stumping time . . . . .

It’s TEA Time and while I’m not that confident that I have anything that will WIN in this race (competition looks VERY tight this year!), I’d still like to put up my nominations for your consideration. I will be doing individual posts for each, so if you’re not interested in that, please block the tag #2019 teas or #tea awards because I will use those tags when posting everything that has to do with the TEA Awards.

Doppelgänger: Set in Hyperion Heights: A patient comes into Hyperion Heights County Hospital, where Dr. Belle Weaver works as an attending physician in the emergency room. The man is badly beaten and unconscious – and he looks exactly like her husband, Detective Finlay Weaver – who has been dead for eight years.

Star-Crossed: This story takes place in the “Catch a Falling Star” verse. Nick and Belle Gold are nearing their 13th anniversary. Their idyllic, blissfully happy life is about to take a sharp turn into difficult times, between dealing with a pre-teen daughter’s sudden shift in attitude, a film role that brings out Nick’s insecurities, the fallout from the strained marriage of Bae and Emma, and a dangerous threat in the form of one of Nick’s new students that neither of them sees coming.

Warmth and Desire: Rumpelstiltskin meets with Dumbledore to make a deal, and Belle listens in on their conversation. Both Belle and Rumple are surprised at what they find. Set in the Dark Castle.

A Life Unexpected: In order to avoid her annoying ex-boyfriend, Belle French tells him she is dating someone. When she enters Mr. Gold’s shop, an unexpected deal occurs.

S.O.S.: Mr. Gold and his assistant, Belle French, are traveling via Mr. Gold’s private boat to a meeting when a wind storm hits. Belle has been secretly in love with her employer for some time. What will transpire between them as they wait to be rescued?
