After frustrating the Brazilians for 90 minutes, the Costa Ricans finally conceded twice in stoppage time and slumped to a second loss that ended their chances of advancing to the knockout stage. Coutinho poked the ball through the legs of goalkeeper Keylor Navas and into the net after Gabriel Jesus controlled the ball in front, for his second goal of the tournament.
Neymar sent his nation’s yellow-shirted fans wild when he volleyed the ball in with virtually the last kick of the game. The Spanish coach had a difficult relationship with the Roma midfielder. ___ 4:15 p.m. A Russian soccer fan who has groped a journalist during a live broadcast in Moscow has offered her an apology . The man groped DW reporter Julieth Gonzalez Theran and kissed her on the cheek as she was reporting on the World Cup last week, drawing international attention.
The German outlet said Friday the man who identified himself by his first name, Ruslan, has visited its office to offer his “most profound apologies.” It posted a video of his Skype conversation with Theran, in which he said he made a bet with a friend that he would kiss a reporter on air.

Brazil striker Gabriel Jesus had a goal disallowed for offside, while Costa Rica’s best chance saw Celso Borges drag a shot wide following a cut-back.
The half ended with Neymar, surrounded by his teammates, remonstrating with referee Bjorn Kuipers. Costa Rica, a World Cup quarterfinalist in 2014, lost 1-0 to Serbia in its opening game. ____ 3:43 p.m.
Croatia’s players have stoked ethnic tensions by celebrating their 3-0 victory against Argentina by singing a nationalist song that glorifies the Balkan country’s wartime struggle against the Serbs. A brief clip shows defender Dejan Lovren singing the song with other players in the dressing room after Thursday’s match. The song by a popular Croatian singer known as Thompson starts with a chant that was used by Croatia’s pro-Nazis during World War II. It also mentions chasing Serb “bandits” will be chased out of Croatia — a reference to the war between the two former Yugoslav republics in the 1990s.
Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic says Friday he doesn’t understand why the Croatian players would celebrate in such a way. He says, “If I was in their place, I would be happy with the victory. For some people, their hatred for their neighbors is more important.” Croatia and Serbia could meet in later rounds at the World Cup. ___ 2:40 p.m.
Brazil star Neymar caused a stir with his “spaghetti” hairstyle for his opening match at the World Cup. Five days later, it appears to have gone. Warming up for the game against Costa Rica in St. Petersburg, the Brazil forward had a more routine haircut with his fringe swept back and those long, curly pasta-style locks nowhere to be seen. What will he come up with for Serbia on Tuesday? ___ 1:30 p.m.
This World Cup is right on pace to be the lowest scoring ever despite no goalless games so far.
Just 51 goals have been scored in 23 games going into Friday’s play, at a rate of 2.217 per game. The rate was 2.212 at the 1990 World Cup in Italy — a tournament seen as a low point for exciting games.
In 1990, the 24-nation format rewarded cautious play in the group stage by sending some third-place teams into the Round of 16. The most prolific World Cup in terms of scoring was 5.38 per game in 1954 hosted by Switzerland.
In the 32-team tournament era, the record goals tally was 171 — a rate of 2.67 per game — in 1998 in France and four years ago in Brazil. The all-time average goals per game since 1930 was 2.85 before the tournament kicked off play in Russia. ___ 1:20 p.m.
PSV Eindhoven says coach Phillip Cocu is moving to Fenerbahce and will be replaced by Australia’s assistant coach Mark van Bommel. The Dutch club announced Cocu’s departure Friday and said Van Bommel, who is Bert van Marwijk’s assistant at the World Cup, has a three-year contract to replace him.
Van Bommel, a tough tackling midfielder, played at PSV for six seasons before moving overseas to play at Barcelona, Bayern Munich and AC Milan. Before the World Cup, the 41-year-old Van Bommel had been coaching PSV’s youth players as the club groomed him to succeed Cocu. PSV General Manager Toon Gerbrands says, “He’s ready.” PSV says Van Bommel will return to Eindhoven after Australia’s last match in Russia.
Cocu led PSV to three Eredivisie titles in his five years in Eindhoven. Australia is third in World Cup Group C, after losing 2-1 to France and a 1-1 draw with Denmark ___ 12:30 p.m. Egypt is set to lodge a complaint to FIFA about what its federation chairman describes as the “injustice” of the match officials during the team’s World Cup loss to Russia.
Egyptian Football Association chairman Hany Abo Rida says the match officials “did not achieve justice” in the game. Egypt’s 3-1 loss to Russia, combined with Saudi Arabia’s loss to Uruguay, ended its changes of progressing beyond the group stage at its first World Cup in 28 years. Egypt and Saudi Arabia meet Monday in Volgograd in their last Group A match.
Abo Rida, speaking from the Egyptian squad’s World Cup base in Grozny, Chechnya, did not specify which incident would form the basis of the complaint.
The Egyptians contend that defender Ahmed Fathi was pushed before the ball deflected off him for an own goal that gave the Russians a 1-0 lead. The players also thought forward Mohsen Marwan should have been awarded a penalty when he was brought down inside the box. Both incidents took place in the second half.

Video games Rating Lawro’s prediction Monday, 25 June Iran v Portugal x-x 0-1 Monday, 25 June Spain v Morocco x-x 2-0
Iran v Portugal (Monday, 25 June at Mordovia Enviornment, Saransk. 19:00 BST)
Iran have performed OK thus far and, regardless of dropping narrowly to Spain, they nonetheless have an opportunity of getting out of this group.
I do not see it taking place, although, though their Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz will know all about Portugal after managing them twice.
I believed Portugal’s passing was poor of their final recreation, a win over Morocco, however they all the time appear to discover a means, helped by Cristiano Ronaldo after all.
Spain v Morocco (Monday, 25 June at Kaliningrad Stadium, Kalingrad. 19:00 BST)
Spain are one of the best group I’ve seen thus far at this World Cup. I do know they solely beat Iran 1-Zero however they have been so dominant and so they seem like a category act.
Morocco already know they’re going dwelling, however they no less than had a go towards Portugal of their final recreation.
I’m anticipating them to do the identical right here however, in that case, it’s going to most likely be a type of wonderful failure, as a result of I’d nonetheless again Spain to win.
Lawro’s pre-tournament picks to undergo: Spain (winners) and Portugal (runners-up)
GROUP C
Video games Rating Lawro’s prediction Tuesday, 26 June Australia v Peru x-x 1-1 Tuesday, 26 June Denmark v France x-x 0-2
Australia v Peru (Tuesday, 26 June at Fisht Olympic Stadium, Sochi. 15:00 BST)
I’ve seen each of Australia’s video games and I simply fear that they may run of of steam, as a result of the best way they play is so demanding.
Their coach Bert van Marwijk took them to a coaching camp in Turkey for about three weeks within the run-up to the match, and he has clearly labored them solidly there.
So you possibly can perceive if they’re drained now, and I additionally assume they are going to wrestle to interchange Andrew Nabbout, who seems like he will likely be lacking with a shoulder harm.
Peru are one other group who’re out, after two defeats, however they’ve gained a whole lot of followers with their fashion of play.
Australia have to win to have any likelihood of progressing however I truly fancy Peru to get their first level of this World Cup.
Denmark v France (Tuesday, 26 June at Luzhniki Stadium, Moscow. 15:00 BST)
France seemed higher towards Peru with Olivier Giroud main their assault than they did towards Australia once they used a unique formation with two holding midfield gamers.
You solely want a type of when you’ve got N’Golo Kante in your group anyway.
Denmark will look to Christian Eriksen to supply their inspiration, however I feel France will make it three wins out of three.
Lawro’s pre-tournament picks to undergo: France (winners) and Denmark (runners-up)
GROUP D
Video games Rating Lawro’s prediction Tuesday, 26 June Iceland v Croatia x-x 0-0 Tuesday, 26 June Nigeria v Argentina x-x 0-2
Iceland v Croatia (Tuesday, 26 June at Rostov Enviornment, Rostov-on-Don. 19:00 BST)
Iceland completed above Croatia in qualifying, and they should beat them right here to have an opportunity of becoming a member of them within the final 16.
Croatia are more likely to make adjustments, however I simply have a sense Iceland will miss out by some means. It is not going to be for a scarcity of effort, although.
Nigeria v Argentina (Tuesday, 26 June at Krestovsky Stadium, Saint Petersburg. 19:00 BST)
I nonetheless assume Argentina will make it out of Group D, regardless of their disastrous consequence towards Croatia.
I’m not shocked on the stories the Argentina gamers have had a gathering and known as for supervisor Jorge Sampaoli to be sacked – they have been everywhere in the present tactically in that recreation.
So, one thing may very well be brewing there, and it’d simply carry one of the best out of Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero.
I feel Argentina will win, however whether or not that will likely be sufficient for them is out of their fingers.
Nigeria’s destiny is beneath their very own management, and so they might really feel they solely want a degree to progress.
I’m not positive that may assist them right here. They’re at their finest in the event that they go on the assault, however they appear unwilling to take action.
Lawro’s pre-tournament picks to undergo: Argentina (winners) and Croatia (runners-up)
GROUP E
Video games Rating Lawro’s prediction Wednesday, 27 June Serbia v Brazil x-x 0-2 Wednesday, 27 June Switzerland v Costa Rica x-x 1-0
Serbia v Brazil (Wednesday, 27 June at Otkrytie Enviornment, Moscow. 19:00 BST)
Brazil left it late to make the breakthrough towards Costa Rica, however they’d performed very well within the second half of that recreation – and the targets have been positively coming.
They need to discover it simpler going ahead on this recreation, as a result of Serbia have to win or they’re out. That’s precisely the type of situation that Brazil need.
Switzerland v Costa Rica (Wednesday, 27 June at Nizhny Novgorod Stadium, Nizhny Novgorod. 19:00 BST)
Switzerland have impressed me thus far, with the best way they saved Brazil quiet after which fought again to beat Serbia, however I’m not shocked that they’re doing effectively.
They’re a group that’s larger than the sum of its components, they’re extraordinarily well-coached and so they all the time have an actual go too. They are going to be too sturdy for Costa Rica.
Lawro’s pre-tournament picks to undergo: Brazil (winners) and Switzerland (runners-up)
GROUP F
Video games Rating Lawro’s prediction Wednesday, 27 June South Korea v Germany x-x 0-2 Wednesday, 27 June Mexico v Sweden x-x 1-0
South Korea v Germany (Wednesday, 27 June at Kazan Enviornment, Kazan. 15:00 BST)
I couldn’t consider how unhealthy Germany have been towards Mexico however they confirmed why they’re world champions with the best way they rescued themselves so late with their win over Sweden.
They certainly will not have any extra slip-ups this time, towards a South Korea facet who’ve been crushed in each their video games thus far.
Mexico v Sweden (Wednesday, 27 June at Central Stadium, Yekaterinburg. 15:00 BST)
Sweden are most likely nonetheless questioning how they misplaced to Germany – a draw would have been sufficient for them right here if they’d held on for a couple of seconds longer.
Now they should beat a Mexico facet who look deadly on the break. I’m positive Sweden is not going to simply go gung-ho from the beginning, as a result of they’re much more measured than that, however this can be a tough process for them.
Lawro’s pre-tournament picks to undergo: Germany (winners) and Mexico (runners-up)
GROUP G
Video games Rating Lawro’s prediction Thursday, 28 June England v Belgium x-x 1-0 Thursday, 28 June Panama v Tunisia x-x 0-1
England v Belgium (Thursday, 28 June at Kaliningrad Stadium, Kaliningrad. 19:00 BST)
I believed England would beat Panama, however they did it in some fashion. It was a really spectacular efficiency.
Belgium additionally scored some targets as they put Tunisia away, however they nonetheless look a bit disjointed to me, particularly in comparison with how England are taking part in collectively, and one of the best 11 gamers don’t all the time make one of the best group.
I feel England have gotten extra stability to their strongest line-up, and I additionally assume they are going to win – though an enormous issue will likely be what number of adjustments each managers make.
Panama v Tunisia (Thursday, 28 June at Mordovia Enviornment, Saransk. 19:00 BST)
It is a useless rubber, and a remaining likelihood for each groups to get off the mark. Tunisia have supplied way over Panama going ahead, however that’s not precisely tough.
Lawro’s pre-tournament picks to undergo: Belgium (winners) and England (runners-up)
GROUP H
Video games Rating Lawro’s prediction Thursday, 28 June Japan v Poland x-x 0-2 Thursday, 28 June Senegal v Colombia x-x 1-1
Japan v Poland (Thursday, 28 June at Volgograd Enviornment, Volgograd. 15:00 BST)
This group has proved essentially the most tough to name thus far, and Japan have shocked me essentially the most.
They solely want a degree to make sure of going by means of – but when Poland play the best way they will, then they need to win.
Senegal v Colombia (Thursday, 28 June at Samara Enviornment, Samara. 19:00 BST)
Senegal additionally solely want a degree to undergo and, though Japan precipitated them extra issues than I anticipated of their draw on Sunday, I feel they are going to get it.
What I’d say it that, whoever England find yourself taking part in within the final 16, I’d be assured they are going to win.

Iceland’s attempts to contain Nigeria on Friday were shattered in the second half when they struggled to cope with the Africans’ pace and went down 2-0 in their Group D game.
The World Cup debutants, who stunned twice champions Argentina last Saturday with a 1-1 draw, had gone into the interval feeling they were on track at 0-0, with Nigeria failing to register a single shot.
A point would have kept Iceland in the second qualifying spot ahead of their final group match against Croatia.
But Nigeria carved open Iceland after the break. Two well-taken goals by Ahmed Musa mean “Our Boys” must beat group leaders Croatia and hope the result of Argentina against Nigeria goes their way too.
A win for Nigeria, and possibly even a draw depending on goal difference, would put the Africans in the knockout round and send Iceland, and their massive army of supporters, back to Reykjavik. Argentina would also be eliminated.
Iceland coach Heimir Hallgrimsson said the soaring temperatures of Volgograd — which are likely to be a factor on Tuesday too in Rostov-on-Don — had sapped his players.
He rued his team’s lack of bite, something he must address before Tuesday.
“The tactics, the strategy was not wrong. We were perhaps a little unlike ourselves, a little toothless, but we didn’t have the wrong tactics,” he said.
The loss before the game of injured winger Johann Berg Gudmundsson didn’t help. His pace is central to Iceland’s counter-attacking game.
But even more rests on Sigurdsson, the most gifted Icelandic player of his generation. He recovered from injury just in time for the World Cup but has looked off the pace in Russia, despite his coach saying that was 100 percent fit.
Against Nigeria, Sigurdsson had only two first-half shots, both in the opening minutes, and missed a penalty that cost Iceland their chance of getting back into the game with 10 minutes to go.
Iceland must find a way to provide him with more support in attack, something that rests in large part on the chances of Gudmundsson recovering from injury, as they focus on Croatia.
The Croats ended Iceland’s hopes of qualifying for the 2014 World Cup in a playoff and they will be seeking to ensure they finish top of the group, something they can do with a draw on Tuesday.
“We only need to win (over) Croatia, but that might be easier said than done,” Hallgrimsson said.

Soccer: Iceland must turn defense into attack to keep World Cup…
VOLGOGRAD, Russia (Reuters) – World Cup upstarts Iceland will need a new, attack-minded game-plan, and a lot more from their creative star Gylfi Sigurdsson, when they battle against the odds to keep their Russia 2018 dreams alive on Tuesday by beating in-form Croatia.

MOSCOW | The Latest: Germany, Mexico, Belgium headline Saturday games
MOSCOW (AP) — The Latest on Friday at the World Cup (all times local):
1:13 a.m.
Will Germany follow Brazil’s lead in righting the ship after a rocky World Cup start, or will the defending champ find itself keeping company with Argentina, needing help if it hopes to advance? The World Cup could take another twist when Germany faces Sweden in Saturday’s late game.
Giant-slayer Mexico looks to stay on a roll after knocking off Germany to start the tournament, taking on South Korea in the second game. Belgium, one of the few top teams with an emphatic win under its belt, turns its attention to handling Tunisia in Saturday’s first game. ___
1:07 a.m.
Serbian football association Vice President Savo Milosevic is angry after his team’s 2-1 World Cup defeat by Switzerland that the video assistant referee was not consulted on a second-half penalty appeal by Serbia.
Midway through the second half, Switzerland defenders Stephan Lichtsteiner and Fabian Schaer held onto Serbia striker Aleksandar Mitrovic and all three players fell to the ground in the penalty area.
Serbian players appealed to German referee Felix Brych for a penalty but he waved them off.
Milosevic said the VAR should have been consulted and felt his team had missed a penalty for a foul on Mitrovic for the second straight match after an appeal was also turned down in Serbia’s 1-0 defeat of Costa Rica in their first Group E match in Russia.
Milosevic says, “I understand maybe the referee didn’t see it, but that’s why we put VAR on. What are (those) guys doing up there?” He adds, “Two decisions in two games is too much. This is a World Cup.” ___
12:44 a.m.
Colombian authorities are investigating a death threat made on social media against Colombia midfielder Carlos Sanchez, who was sent off early on in the team’s 2-1 defeat to Japan at the World Cup.
Police say the threat was made from a Twitter account, which was immediately shut down. Authorities are now looking for the IP address of the machine from which the message was sent.
The message appeared with an image of Sanchez and Colombia defender Andres Escobar, who was shot dead on the outskirts of Medellin days after returning from the United States after competing at the 1994 World Cup. Escobar scored an own-goal against the United States and Colombia, a pre-tournament favorite, failed to get out of its group. ___
11:02 p.m.
Switzerland has come back to beat Serbia in the World Cup but may have some political controversy to go with its 2-1 win.
The Swiss goals were scored by Granit Xhaka and Xherdan Shaqiri, both of whom are of Kosovo Albanian descent, and both celebrated by putting their hands together to make the symbol for Albania’s double-headed eagle.
Kosovo, a former Serbian province, declared independence in 2008. Serbia doesn’t recognize Kosovo’s independence and relations between the two countries remain tense.
Xhaka, whose brother plays for Albania, ran to the touchline and locked his thumbs together with fingers outstretched to make what looks like the double-headed eagle on Albania’s flag. Shaqiri ripped off his shirt and made the same gesture with his hands on his chest after scoring the winner on a breakaway in the 90th minute.
The goals came after an Aleksandar Mitrovic header had given Serbia the lead in the first half.
— Associated Press writer Mike Corder reported from Kaliningrad. ___
10:15 p.m.
Midfielder Granit Xhaka’s powerful left-footed shot through a crowded penalty area has brought Switzerland level with Serbia at 1-1 in their World Cup match.
Xhaka fired his team level in the 52nd minute of the Group E match at Kaliningrad Stadium after a shot by Xherdan Shaqiri was blocked on the edge of the box. Shaqiri nearly put the Swiss ahead moments later with a left-footed shot off the post.
Aleksandar Mitrovic had given Serbia an early lead with a powerful header.
— Associated Press writer Mike Corder reported from Kaliningrad. ___
9:47 p.m.
Aleksandar Mitrovic’s 13th goal in his last 15 internationals has given Serbia a 1-0 lead at half time of its World Cup match against Switzerland.
Fulham striker Mitrovic rose above Fabian Schaer to head in a cross from the right by Dusan Tadic in just the fifth minute.
The goal came just seconds after Yann Sommer made a good save to block another Mitrovic header as Serbia poured forward in the opening minutes.
The match is being played amid tensions back in Serbia between some Serbs and ethnic Albanians from Kosovo because a number of Swiss players, including winger Xherdan Shaqiri and midfielder Valon Behrami, come from Kosovo, whose declaration of independence Serbia does not recognize.
Earlier Friday, late goals by Philippe Coutinho and Neymar brought Brazil back into contention in the group after its opening draw with Switzerland. If Serbia holds onto its lead it will progress to the round of 16. ___
9:06 p.m.
A header by Aleksandar Mitrovic has given Serbia an early lead against Switzerland in their Group E match in Kaliningrad.
Mitrovic rose above Fabian Schaer to head in Dusan Tadic’s cross from the right in the fifth minute.
Serbia beat Costa Rica 1-0 in its opening match, while Switzerland ground out a 1-1 draw with Brazil. ___
8:30 p.m.
Soccer’s international governing body says it is helping Russian authorities identify people filmed attacking a fan in the stadium during Croatia’s 3-0 win over Argentina at Nizhny Novgorod.
Footage posted on Twitter showed Argentina fans kicking and punching a man wearing a Croatia shirt on Thursday evening. One kicked the head of the Croatia supporter who was lying on a concrete walkway leading from the grandstand.
The Interfax news agency cites Russian World Cup organizers as saying seven Argentina fans were charged with minor offenses. They could have their Fan ID cards canceled. The credential acts as a visa for visitors to Russia and is needed to get into a stadium.
“The organizing committee of Russia 2018 is shocked and disappointed … We condemn the appearance of violence in football in any form,” the committee is quoted as saying.
FIFA says it is cooperating with Russian police and is “absolutely shocked by the images” of the fight posted on Twitter, and “condemns the behavior of these so-called fans.” ___
8:21 p.m.
Serbia coach Mladen Krstajic has made one change to his lineup for his team’s World Cup match against Switzerland. Hamburg midfielder Filip Kostic comes replaces Adem Ljajic on the left.
Switzerland’s team for the match at Kaliningrad Stadium is unchanged from the starting lineup that secured a 1-1 draw against Brazil in their opening match. Switzerland midfielder Valon Behrami had missed a training session this week after being substituted 70 minutes into the match against Brazil.
Lineups:
Serbia: Vladimir Stojkovic, Dusko Tosic, Luka Milivojevic, Branislav Ivanovic, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Dusan Tadic, Aleksandar Kolarov, Nikola Milenkovic, Filip Kostic, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Nemanja Matic.
Switzerland: Yann Sommer, Stephan Lichtsteiner, Manuel Akanji, Haris Seferovic, Granit Xhaka, Valon Behrami, Ricardo Rodriguez, Steven Zuber, Blerim Dzemaili, Fabian Schaer, Xherdan Shaqiri.
— Associated Press writer Michael Corder reported from Kaliningrad. ___
7:57 p.m.
Ahmed Musa has made a spectacular entrance into the World Cup by scoring twice in Nigeria’s 2-0 victory over Iceland.
The result in Volgograd means Nigeria, Iceland and Argentina are all still in contention to advance from Group D. Croatia leads the group after two wins and has already ensured a spot in the round of 16.
Musa opened the scoring in the 49th when he finished off a long-range counterattack with a composed, second-touch half-volley. He doubled Nigeria’s lead in the 75th minute after a swerving run into the area and a shot from close range.
Iceland had a real chance to get one back but Gylfi Sigurdsson fired a penalty kick way over the Nigeria bar in the 83rd minute.
The result lifts Nigeria into second spot in the group with three points. Iceland and Argentina each have one point. ___
7:43 p.m.
Ahmed Musa has scored again to give Nigeria a 2-0 lead against Iceland late in the second half in Volgograd.
Picking up the ball on the left hand side of the Iceland penalty area in the 75th minute, Musa outran his defender, mazed his way past goalkeeper Hannes Halldorsson and picked his spot in the Iceland goal. That came moments after he hit the crossbar with another shot and less than half an hour after he put Nigeria in front with his first strike.
Musa was brought into the starting line-up by coach Gernot Rohr in order to inject pace into Nigeria’s attack.
Iceland missed a chance to pull one back in the 82nd when Gylfi Sigurdsson sent a penalty kick soaring over the bar. The spot kick was awarded after a video-reviewed foul on Tyronne Ebuehi for clumsily bringing down Alfred Finnbogason in the area. ___
7:08 p.m.
Ahmed Musa has scored in the 49th minute to give Nigeria a 1-0 lead against Iceland at the World Cup.
Musa’s half-volley came after a quick Nigeria counter attack which started in its own area.
Victor Moses crossed from the right, and Musa’s brilliant first touch saw him kick the ball in the air in front of him. He let it bounce and then lashed it into the net. ___
6:48 p.m.
Nigeria and Iceland are locked 0-0 at halftime in a World Cup Group D game in Volgograd.
Iceland had its best chance in the last minute after Gylfi Sigurdsson whipped a free kick into the Nigeria penalty box but none of his teammates could stretch out enough to tap the ball into the net.
The tactical changes from the coaches appear to have cancelled each other out. For Nigeria, captain John Obi Mikel is playing in a more defensive role in midfield, his presence helping to shore up the defense against Iceland’s two-man forward line. In the 1-1 draw against Argentina, Iceland played with a lone striker.
Whatever the result, Iceland will still have a chance to progress in the World Cup. Defeat for Nigeria would mean it is eliminated. ___
6:30 p.m.
Brazil coach Tite says he pulled a muscle during his wild celebrations after Philippe Coutinho’s late goal in the 2-0 win over Costa Rica. Tite was unintentionally pushed to the ground by substitute goalkeeper Ederson Moraes as the coach ran onto the field from the dugout after the goal in the first minute of injury time.
Tite says “I was going to celebrate with them but I had to limp back.” ____
6:15 p.m.
England defender Kyle Walker has urged the media covering the team not to revel team secrets, after a photographer tweeted an image of the planned lineup for the next match against Panama.
Walker says “try to keep it to yourself and don’t bring it out to the world, because it’s not going to help us come the later stages of the tournament.”
He adds: “You guys have to do your little bit. So if you could just please help us with that, it would be polite.”
London’s Evening Standard photographer Jeremy Selywn photographed a piece of paper in the hands of assistance coach Steve Holland showing players in formation.
Other journalists defended the right to publish Holland’s handwritten notes.
“Let’s just be clear on one thing,” Matt Law, a football writer for the Daily Telegraph newspaper, posted on Twitter. “The pic of the England team was taken in an OPEN training session in which photographers and cameramen are invited to take pictures. You may not agree with it being published, but there was certainly no hiding in bushes.” ___
5:59 p.m.
Germany could be without starting central defender Mats Hummels for Saturday’s match against Sweden due to a neck injury suffered in training.
Coach Joachim Loew said Friday that Hummels aggravated a vertebra in his neck during Thursday’s training and he would not be practicing Friday. Loew did not say who might replace Hummels in the lineup but said Germany would need to be strong in the air if the 6-foot-2 defender is unavailable.
Hummels has anchored of Germany’s defense since the 2012 European Championship and scored two goals during their run to the World Cup title in 2014, including the game-winner in the quarterfinals against France.
Germany sits at the bottom of the group with South Korea after losing its opening match 1-0 to Mexico. ___
4:56 p.m.
Philippe Coutinho and Neymar have scored in injury time to give Brazil a 2-0 win over Costa Rica at the World Cup.
It had appeared as if Brazil, after a 1-1 draw with Switzerland in its opening game, was heading for another stalemate.
Brazil attacked relentlessly in the second half and was awarded a penalty in the 78th minute when Neymar was impeded as he cut inside defender Giancarlo Gonzalez.
But referee Bjorn Kuipers went over to look at the sideline TV monitor, then reversed the decision.
Billed as one of the tournament favorites in Russia, Brazil has four points heading into its last group game against Serbia next Wednesday. Serbia won its opener and was looking to move top of Group E with victory against Switzerland later Friday. ___
4:38 p.m.
Referee Bjorn Kuipers has reversed a decision to award a penalty to Brazil for an apparent foul on Neymar in the 78th minute.
Costa Rica’s Giancarlo Gonzalez put his hand across Neymar on the left of the penalty area and the Brazil forward went down. Kuipers pointed the spot.
Moments later, the Dutch referee went over to look at the sideline monitor, then returned to the field and reversed the decision The score was 0-0. ___
4:27 p.m.
Being boring is working well for Belgium coach Roberto Martinez. Asked why this squad seemed much calmer than at previous tournaments, Martinez says they’re avoiding making headlines for off-field issues.
Martinez says: “We do want to be boring. We’re a football team, we’re not here to fulfill stories or fill pages.”
Belgium made a no-fuss start at its World Cup, beating overmatched Panama 3-0 and now plays Tunisia on Saturday in Moscow. England is also in Group G.
Martinez cut out one potential problem by not picking Radja Nainggolan. The Spanish coach had a difficult relationship with the Roma midfielder. ___
4:15 p.m.
He said “I acted carelessly” and was sorry for “an unsuccessful joke with a kiss on the cheek turned into sexual harassment.”
Theran accepted his apologies during their conversation. ___
3:55 p.m.
Sweden has arrived in Sochi short-handed for Saturday’s match against Germany at the World Cup.
Three players remained in Gelendzhik after becoming ill. Swedish coach Janne Andersson says the expectation is defenders Pontus Jansson and Filip Helander, and midfielder Marcus Rohden will fly to Sochi on Saturday and join the team. Andersson did not indicate whether any of the three will be included in the final 18-man squad.
Jannson started in central defense for the Swedes in the opening victory over South Korea. Helander and Rohden were not used.
Sweden forward Isaac Kiese Thelin suffered an ankle injury in practice and was not training Friday. Thelin came on as a sub late in the second half of the opener. ___
3:48 p.m.
Brazil and Costa Rica were locked at 0-0 at halftime in their second group game at the World Cup.
The Brazilians were having problems breaking down Costa Rica’s packed defense, with Neymar also getting frustrated at some strong tackling — he was fouled three times in a five-minute span. Neymar was fouled 10 times in Brazil’s opening 1-1 draw with Switzerland.
3:43 p.m.
For some people, their hatred for their neighbors is more important.”
Croatia and Serbia could meet in later rounds at the World Cup.
1:30 p.m.
1:20 p.m.
PSV General Manager Toon Gerbrands says, “He’s ready.”
PSV says Van Bommel will return to Eindhoven after Australia’s last match in Russia.
Cocu led PSV to three Eredivisie titles in his five years in Eindhoven.
Australia is third in World Cup Group C, after losing 2-1 to France and a 1-1 draw with Denmark ___
12:30 p.m.

World Cup draw throws up Spain, Portugal showdown
Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal will come up against Spain in the standout fixture of the 2018 World Cup group stage, while England were handed an encounter with a dangerous Belgium side in Friday's draw.

Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal will come up against Spain in the standout fixture of the 2018 World Cup group stage, while England were handed an encounter with a dangerous Belgium side in Friday's draw.Spain, the 2010 World Cup winners, have been revitalised under Julen Lopetegui after underperforming in recent years and were seen as the team to avoid after missing out on a place among the top seeds. It was Portugal, the reigning European champions, who were handed an Iberian derby in a glitzy ceremony held at the Moscow Kremlin and featuring an appearance from Russian President Vladimir Putin alongside FIFA president Gianni Infantino. The draw also laid out all sides' potential routes to the final, and revealed such tantalising prospects as a quarter-final between Spain and Argentina, and possible semi-finals of Spain against Germany or France versus Brazil.Spain's match against Portugal is a mouthwatering early clash, though, with the fixture set for the Black Sea resort of Sochi on Friday, June 15."They are the champions of Europe, they have fantastic players and we are talking about the highest level," coach Lopetegui told Spanish TV station Cuatro.Real Madrid star Ronaldo will be 33 come next year's finals, meaning this will probably be his last shot at World Cup glory.
Messi v Iceland

Meanwhile, reigning world champions Germany, the much-fancied Brazil of Neymar, and France will all be pleased with their draws, but the prospects appear tougher for Argentina. They will come up against Croatia, Nigeria and tournament debutants Iceland as Lionel Messi looks to make up for losing the 2014 final to Germany. The Barcelona man turns 31 during the tournament, meaning this is also probably his last chance to win the World Cup.Germany were paired with Mexico, Sweden and South Korea in Group F as Joachim Loew's men try to become the first nation to retain the title since Brazil in 1962."I am certainly not scared," Loew told ZDF television.Five-time winners Brazil, eager to exorcise the demons of 2014 and their 7-1 semi-final humiliation against Germany, drew Switzerland, Costa Rica and Serbia in Group E.It has been said before that France coach Didier Deschamps has a lucky star over his head when it comes to these draws, and his side will be confident of emerging from Group C ahead of Australia, Peru and Denmark."Whatever the group, the French team have to qualify for the knockout round and have to finish first in the group," the 1998 World Cup-winning captain Deschamps told BeIN Sport.
England wary
England's coach Gareth Southgate stands with other coaches at the end of the 2018 FIFA World Cup football tournament final draw at the State Kremlin Palace in Moscow on December 1, 2017(AFP)
Former England striker-turned television presenter Gary Lineker oversaw the draw and his nation will be pleased after Diego Maradona, who knocked Lineker's England out of the 1986 World Cup with his infamous 'Hand of God' goal, drew Gareth Southgate's men in Group G with Belgium, Tunisia and debutants Panama.England manager Southgate was wary, however, after all his country's recent disappointments at major tournaments."We've been good at writing teams off and then getting beat. We've got to be prepared for every game," said Southgate, and England could in theory find themselves on a collision course with Germany and Spain later on if they do not win the group.England begin against Tunisia in Volgograd -- in a stadium built on one of the main sites of the Battle of Stalingrad, one of the bloodiest episodes of the Second World War -- on Monday, June 18.Japan will face a tough task to finish in the top two of Group H that features Robert Lewandowski's Poland, Sadio Mane's Senegal and Colombia. The tournament that spans 11 cities and 12 stadiums kicks off when host nation Russia take on Saudi Arabia on June 14 in Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium, which will also host the final on July 15.
Putin address
Russian President Vladimir Putin, Brazilian football legend Pele and Argentina's former midfielder Diego Maradona pose for pictures ahead of the Final Draw for the 2018 FIFA World Cup football tournament at the State Kremlin Palace in Moscow on December 1, 2017(SPUTNIK/AFP)
The ceremony was staged inside the State Kremlin Palace, where Communist Party Congresses were held during the Soviet era.President Putin said Russia had a "strong affection" for football."Our country is looking forward to the championship and intends to hold it at the highest level," Putin said. The build-up to the tournament has been somewhat overshadowed by the controversy that surrounded the awarding of the tournament to Russia, and by fears of terrorism and hooliganism, as well as of Putin's relations with the West. The draw also came just as Russia is dealing with allegations of widespread doping in other sports, including when it hosted the 2014 Winter Olympics. But Infantino denied that doping was a problem in football."If you would have a serious doping issue in football this would be known by now, whether in Russia or any other country of the world," he said at a press conference.
