For months, maybe a little over a year, he had been hiding his feelings for his personal robot assistant. It was a bit embarrassing and he was sure it would be frowned upon even though it wasn't illegal or anything, it was just different, and different was weird and wrong in this day and age.

Cooper just didn't care anymore. He lost his career because he sided with Vault-Tec, but he got Lady in exchange for doing so and he honestly wouldn't trade her (or Janey) for the world. He was out with the two, all three had gone to the movie theater to see the latest family-friendly movie.

Cooper smiles as Janey swings her arms, holding both her father's and Lady's hands. Cooper chuckles softly, looking away from Janey and over to Lady. He swallows heavily and steps toward Lady, Janey releases his hand and watches as Cooper moves closer to Lady before kissing her as he cups one of her cheeks.

Janey wrinkles her nose playfully but smiles, not noticing that the others around them are stopping and staring at the once-famous actor who was now kissing his personal assistant.

            . . . it's something that he desperately needed to hear, truly.      his relationship with his TARDIS has been a bit rocky in this lifetime, to say the least— with his unintentional negligence and ill - thought out actions even leading to the poor ship being entirely DESTROYED at one point. it's why he never complains much when he gets burned while fiddling with her console or flung to the floor by trying to input commands, because it's absolutely warranted. he's been quite the screw - up as of late! the repercussions of which have been wholly earned on his part. he'd never fault the old girl for being moody, annoyed and fed up.     and hearing something so kind from the one that means more than ANYTHING to him in this big wide universe and across all timestreams has his hearts skipping some beats, and renders the man who has been known to have all the correct words at his disposal utterly speechless for a good moment as he just . . . stares stupidly; slightly open - mouthed as he beholds the one who's been with him through it ALL.

          ❝ . . . a— y— ahem, uhm . . . yes, you too. you . . . thank you. thank you so much. ❞    he doesn't even have it in him to be frustrated at the way his voice cracks as he speaks. it's a level of vulnerability she may not have been able to get from the incarnations of himself that came prior, or the next few that immediately follow. the doctor; looking young and hapless, somewhat embarrassed, his fair features a shade of pink as he struggles to articulate so much . . . yet manages to say so little. all he can do is give that crooked smile of his and stare down at the ground, rocking a bit on his heels.    ❝ that . . . means more to me than you know. you mean more to me than you know. ❞

     he's the happiest he's been in a while. and if it does him good to hear it— so he knows it will for her too.

Ohhh, she talks back. Of course they do. They were sentient machines after all with a mind of their own in all their complexity, and while the Master's TARDISes were no different, they were in only one regard--- they typically obeyed him.

She knew so little. She had been only a child when Gallifrey had fallen and even then the memories were vague at best. Trying to get Malekith to share about their former home was like trying to draw blood from a stone. He didn’t want to return to those memories so it was best to leave them be.

This was an opportunity that Emily was not going to waste. Any scraps of information, if insight, she would gladly take.

He got blacklisted as an actor for movies due to him promoting Vault-Tec, even though he didn't believe in it for the sole purpose they weren't going to allow his dog inside, he had to take these little jobs as an entertainer at birthday parties.

He loves Roosevelt; his dog. But he also loves his daughter and his ex promised they'd both have a spot in the Vault, he just hoped since they were divorced Barb would keep her end of the deal at least for Janey.

He falls face-first onto the ground and groans into the carpet under him. "You think I can quit? Retire early?"

He'd been in that space for what felt like ages, feeling like he was going insane, feeling touch-staved, hungry, grumpy, and just wanting out, but he had no way to get out so he was stuck.

Sighing as he sat down again, he shook his head, missing his ship which had become home even now, wanting to go back there, and sleep in his bunk, crank his music, and just be alright again, but that wasn't possible, was it?

Currently, no. But then a sound caught his attention, and he looked around. Standing up, he saw something flickering in the endless, stretching darkness before him

"What the hell?"

"You should be," he said quietly, and then he sighed. Always the ambitious optimist. He used to rely so heavily on that, cling to it when he couldn't find his way out of the dark. Now, those darkened corners of his brain lived openly, and her long-standing outlook felt as alien as his pointed ears.

"My apologies for disturbing you," the Dark Elf said finally. He stood then, shoulders rolling back as if to physically push away the darkness that followed him so frequently. A pause followed as he headed past her, out into the sweeping hallway she'd constructed in their shared space. Before doing so, he paused and looked at her again, in her eyes, filled with age and her unwavering determination. May she never lose it, he thought, but aloud, said only: "As you were."

The Master and the Doctor's TARDIS---ohhh, the possibilities are hilarious and endless! Obviously, she has MANY reasons to be angry with the Master, one of which involves turning her into a Paradox machine thanks to Simm!Master. They have an enemy relationship for sure, but I also think he would listen to her. At least a little because they do care about the Doctor in their own ways.

I think the incarnations of the Master who would show more respect, or at least not anger her as much as Simm, would be Delgado!Master, Missy & of course Academy!Era Koschei and Adult!Koschei. Okay, but AU what if--- what if the Doctor ended up stealing a different TARDIS and Koschei steals this one instead?

That whole entire time with Dhawan!Master stealing 13's body and then trying to take the TARDIS for himself. The TARDIS probably has a lot to say about it.

She had got back to this world. Her world. The world that she had grown up in. This is what she had been trying to do for a while. And she had reasons to. Things had been going well for a while. Her and the human Doctor, John had been very happy. At that point, they were trying to come up with a way to be able to come here but in a way that it wouldn’t cause the problems that had before when she first managed to get back.  They weren’t rushing it because they were happy. It wasn’t like she was rushing to get back to The Doctor. But then one day, things didn’t go as planned. John and Pete were working on it. Jackie and Rose’s brother Tony had gone in to visit them. And Rose had been away from Torchwood for an hour or so because she had to go somewhere. What she arrived back to was people stopping her heading to the part of Torchwood she would go to everyday. Managing to get passed them, she found it in a right state. And another of the people that worked there giving her one of those looks that said I am so sorry. So now it was just her. She had got the area sorted out and back to how it once was. As well as working on the device to get back. She had nothing left for her here now. She handed over the responsibilities to someone she could trust and now with the device working, she found herself home. Rose stared at her and nodded. "You can say that again." She said.

OpenAI’s GPT-4o Realtime API: Low-Latency Voice Interface

Presenting the Real-time Application Programming Interface

Fast speech-to-speech experiences can now be incorporated into applications by developers.

OpenAI is launching the Realtime API public beta today, allowing all developers who have paid to create low-latency, multimodal experiences for their applications. The Realtime API allows natural speech-to-speech discussions utilizing the six preset voices that are already supported by the API, much to ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Mode.

OpenAI Chat Completions API

In the Chat Completions API, OpenAI also added audio input and output to accommodate use cases that don’t require the low-latency advantages of the Realtime API. With this version, developers can instruct GPT-4o to respond to any text or audio input by giving it either text, audio, or both.

Developers have been using speech experiences to engage consumers in a variety of software applications, such as language apps, educational programs, and customer service interfaces. The integration of several models to enable these experiences is no longer necessary for developers with the Realtime API and the upcoming audio feature in the Chat Completions API. Alternatively, a single API call can be used to create natural conversational interactions.

How it functions

Developers have to use an automatic speech recognition model like Whisper to transcribe audio, then feed the text to a text model for reasoning or inference, and finally use a text-to-speech model to play the model’s output in order to produce a similar voice assistant experience. This method frequently produced audible lag along with a loss of emphasis, accent, and feeling.

Although it is still slower than a human chat, developers may manage the complete process with a single API call with the Chat Completions API. By directly streaming audio inputs and outputs, the Realtime API enhances this and makes for more lifelike conversational experiences. Moreover, it has automatic interruption handling capabilities, much as ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Mode.

In order to communicate with GPT-4o, you can establish a persistent WebSocket connection using the Realtime API. Voice assistants can reply to user queries by initiating operations or bringing up new context with the API’s capability for function calling. For instance, a voice assistant may order something for the user or get pertinent client data to customize its responses.

Pricing and Availability

All paid developers will be able to access the Realtime API starting today in public beta. The new GPT-4o model {gpt-4o-realtime-preview} powers the Realtime API’s audio features.

In the upcoming weeks, a new model called gpt-4o-audio-preview} will be published with audio capabilities in the Chat Completions API. Developers can usegpt-4o-audio-preview` to enter text or audio into GPT-4o and receive text, audio, or both as replies.

Audio tokens and text tokens are both used by the Realtime API. $5 for 1 million text input tokens and $20 for 1 million output tokens are the prices. One million tokens of audio input cost $100, whereas one million tokens of output cost $200. This translates to an approximate audio intake of $0.06 and an approximate audio output of $0.24 per minute. The Chat Completions API’s audio will cost the same.

Security and seclusion

The Realtime API employs several safety measures, such as automated monitoring and human evaluation of flagged model inputs and outputs, to reduce the possibility of API misuse. The GPT-4o version that underpins ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Mode, which OpenAI thoroughly evaluated using both automatic and human assessments including assessments conducted in accordance with its Preparedness Framework, which is described in detail in the GPT-4o System Card is the foundation upon which the Realtime API is based. Its testing indicates that the audio safety infrastructure it developed for Advanced Voice Mode, which helps to lower the risk for injury, is also utilized by the Realtime API.

Repurposing or distributing content from its services to propagate spam, deceive, or cause harm to others is prohibited by its usage terms, and OpenAI keep a close eye out for any possible misuse. In accordance with its principles, developers must also explicitly inform consumers that they are dealing with AI, unless the context makes this clear.

OpenAI tested the Realtime API before launch using its external red teaming network, and it discovered that there were no high-risk gaps that the Realtime API introduced that weren’t already mitigated. The Realtime API is governed by its Enterprise privacy pledges, just like all other API services. Without your express consent, it do not use the inputs or outputs utilized in this service to train its models.

Getting Started

Over the next several days, developers can begin constructing using the Realtime API in the Playground, or by utilizing its documentation and the reference client.

Along with integrating the Realtime API with Twilio’s Voice APIs, which allow developers to easily build, deploy, and connect AI virtual agents to customers via voice calls, OpenAI also worked with LiveKit and Agora to create client libraries of audio components like echo cancellation, reconnection, and sound isolation.

Next up

In order to enhance the Realtime API, OpenAI is actively gathering input as it get closer to wide release. Among the features it intend to include are:

Additional modalities: The Realtime API will initially handle voice, and OpenAI intend to gradually add more modalities including vision and video.

Increased rate limits: As of right now, Tier 5 developers can only use the API for up to 100 simultaneous sessions, while Tiers 1-4 are subject to lesser rate limits. In order to accommodate larger deployments, OpenAI will gradually raise these limitations.

Official SDK support: The OpenAI Python and Node.js SDKs will include Realtime API functionality.

Prompt Caching: In order to allow for the discounted processing of earlier discussion turns, OpenAI will incorporate support for Prompt Caching.

Increased model compatibility: Future iterations of the GPT-4o mini will also be supported by the Realtime API.

OpenAI is excited to see how developers use these new powers to craft engaging new audio experiences for consumers in a range of contexts, including education, customer support, translation, accessibility, and more.
