it's interesting to me to compare taeil and doyoung because when it comes to solo music they had been promoted in a very similar way for a long time. taeil got his predebut osts, they both got similar amount of osts (i didn't check the exact number, doyoung probably has more, but he also sung osts for his own dramas), they both got similar number of collabs, they both participated in smtown special stages (recently it was even taeil who got more exposure this way) and year end stages (once again, similar number for both). they both went on KOMS. they both released nct labs with other members in 2021 (connexion was a performance song though). biggest differences are the number of covers released (dy has done so many of them over the years, taeil doesn't seem too interested in doing them), the musical, and maybe lee mujiin service, but that's very recent. for a long time it was taeil who got highlighted as the main vocal in 127 songs, it's been more balanced since 2021 i would say (and neither of them gets much screentime or center time in 127, lol). doyoung got the main vocal role in all nct u main units and was the center of the from home unit. taeil went solo on music shows in 2020 thanks to his collab with dj raiden. so personally i don't understand why taeil fans act like he never got a chance to show off his vocals and that's why he's unpopular. he's had plenty of them. he doesn't suit variety and has no interest in acting or fashion. i guess it's just convenient to blame the company.

yangyang: first nct member who passed the vibe check. cultural ambassador among idols, german cringe culture icon, best rapper in nct and sm without a doubt stay pressed about it i guess. also i never wanted to be someone's best friend so badly!

ten: before i really knew him as an nct/wayv member i watched a video essay about his dancing which i still think about to this day. his talent is unreal and he is one of the few who can even begin to touch upon taemin's greatness but all with his own style. also just a cool guy.

haechan: fellow gemini nuisance and my favorite voice in nct 127. i think he's hilarious on camera and has a stage personality that is made for that but even more he's a standout vocalist who puts in the time and work and dedication. love listening to his parts on nct songs he always has the kill parts for me.

taeil: king of nct i said what i said. passed the vibe check when i saw him lay down his vocal take for gimme gimme and then for kick it. has all the kill parts on the universe album. him and yuta are the best roommate duo in kpop ever. i simply see and respect the vibes.

yuta: he is legit an unreal person. second person in nct whose name i knew and could put a face to. one of the best voices in nct, great and interesting vocal tone there, and someone with super strong stage charisma. also he's a bigeast which seals the deal.

doyoung: first of all he starred in marie antoinette and i respect an employed EMK musical actor, a fellow sufferer of the craft. i just think he's hard-working and pretty fun to boot and then his gq stuff video revealed a fellow .... clean freak and the vibe check was passed once and for all.

jaehyun: BARITONES OF KPOP AGENDA. it is no secret i will always fight for my baritones in kpop and jae is no different. adore his voice and the approach he has to his work. respect him a lot for really putting his heart where his boundaries are as he should. people who don't like him or only care for his looks can bite me and fuck off. he's cool.

bro. these talented humans did not disappoint. 10 out of 10 recommend giving this killer album a listen. there are various types of beats on this album. i love it. seriously.

make a wish (birthday song). this set is crazy. i cannot with the visuals. the editing is stellar. this was a great debut for shotaro. xiaojun this boy’s vocals! taeyong and jaehyun going back and forth is too much to handle. lucas killed it. im seriously not okay with jaemin (or anyone from dream) doing these concepts, still messes with me. THE BREAK DOWN, and our new nugget having center formation. doyoung whistling, i’m not okay. 

misfit. this track. literally. i cannot with the vibes and track itself. i cannot with all of their flows. it’s killer. i love this nctU formation. and another new nugget, sungchan. he fits perfectly. he didn’t hold back. not okay with hendery rapping, he did soooo good. mark killin’ it per usual. (this hair though...unsure how i feel). JOHNNY MY MAN, GET YO LINES. GET IT HONEY. this look. (wondering why some have more outfits and sets than others...sm honey why you do this?) LA LA LA LA LA LA. literally my favorite part, and i love this part in the track video.

volcano. i missed lucas and taeyong’s vocals together. i feel it should have been renamed, ‘bounce’ hahaha more straightforward. get your lines WINWIN. JUNGWOO MY BOO. GET YOUR ISH HONEY. doyoung did not come to play, his vocals slay. jungwoo those honey vocals are too much. that harmony with jaehyun. 

light bulb. oh my goodness this group is small but mighty. kun and doyoung’s vocals in the same space are killer. sungchan i love what he brings to the rapping element of nct. major ‘yestoday’ vibes. 

dancing in the rain. love this one. johnny and jaehyun together. vocalist in nct don’t play. JAEHYUN RAPPING. GET IT YUTA! seriously one of my faves, it is so cute. drip drop we’re walking down the street together. 

interlude: past to present. their interludes. seriously i love these tracks.

deja vu. nct dream did not come to play. the iconic ‘la la la la la’ comes back. this was a precious track video. dream is precious and they will forever be my children. 

nectar. wayv did not hold back on this one. is this a ‘love talk’ 2.0 i cannot with this group. seriously yangyang’s rapping slays, and i cannot with their honey vocals. and kun, my honey bun sugar plum did a fantastic job. and i would die for more solo covers/tracks from him because his voice is sooooo good. i love how wayv’s vocals meld so well together. and i love ten’s, ‘dancing in the moon light alone alone’. ICONIC. (me being a spicy nctzen, would have loved to see a track video for this one, praying it will happen one day)

music, dance. jaehyun. this man. i cannot. the opening gets me every time. i could have had more jungwoo vocals, but seriously i love nct127. DOYOUNG vocals slay my existence, and taeil. DROP THE BEAT! this is a great work out jam. SO FANCY. AND I LIVE WITH HAPPY JOHNNY WITH LINES. also jaehyun is perfect in all languages, like his tone of voice is butter. HAECHAN’s vocals!!! the bridge, our vocalist SLAY. the ad libs. and the beat. the juxtaposition of the two is too much to handle.  

faded in my last song. oh my goodness, i love it the piano. JOHNNY AND JAEHYUN. the melding of vocals. i love this combination. ten’s vocals, i missed ten and jaehyun in a track. i don’t know if i have said it yet, but lucas tone just adds so much to the track. RENJUN this child’s vocals are no joke. the keys coming back to the focal point at the end!

from home. we stan vocal kings. AHHHHHHHHHHH. no words. just filled with the honey butter vocals. they’re so smooth. seriously get that mandarin in there boys. our multilingual kings. i cannot with this, the melding of all the groups, is just making my heart burst from joy. ‘you are not alone anymore’ that ad lib get it taeil. ‘and we start from here, our home’ ahhhh just leave me in a puddle of my tears.

honestly ‘make a wish’ not my pick for title track, but it slayed and broke our records for views in 24 hours, so i’m proud! 

but where is winwin, yuta, and my boo jungwoo...also i need more visual tracks for all my men. i am definetly excited for the next music video!

hala hala - really fun, i like the mood switches throughout the song. like it starts with this rather mellow electric keyboard esque intro then the rap comes in then boom the beat, really sick build up! and that same pattern of slowing down then building up with interesting beat drops continues which i really loved! also, this is NOT the title track? madness luv …

pirate king - i love any song that has a GRRRRAHH!! (taeyong in tiger inside mwah) so this already started off great. i love the chorus!!! catch me going mmmmhhhh ohhhh ehhh ohhhhh at any given time of the day. the voice of the member who does that (sorry i dont know any names) reminds me a little of felix from stray kids and i’m obsessed with his voice lol

wonderland - the near complete silence before the chorus is so sick, it really makes you anticipate what is about to happen! also love the orchestra bits sprinkled in throughout the song, strings and winds in kpop songs era i miss you (sixth sense by brown eyed girls the blueprint)

thanxx - i like the vocal only chorus in this…. as i write this i realize i seem to be liking the chorus parts of their songs a lot jhdjfdjhf i wish the high notes before the last chorus would have been a bit longer to add more drama, maybe i’m just spoiled by taeil though

fireworks - this seems to have a similar pattern as hala hala with the slow start and build up to the beat but i found hala hala a bit more interesting in the execution. AGAIN, the chorus is really good lmfao do they put crack in those or…

wave - i’m a bit over the tropical house thing so this wasn’t as interesting to me tbh, not bad but i just feel like i heard the same beat drop in 20 other songs before

say my name - this was okay? i didn’t have any particular feelings for this when i listened to it, like nothing really stood out to me 😭 the chorus (lol) is cool but i feel like they had better ones with cooler build ups too!

answer - same as say my name, not bad but no particular part really caught my interest

inception - very sexy slow intro i feel like the build up happened a bit too quickly, wish there were two more lines in between the intro and the first time the beat comes in. still like this though!

utopia - love the dramatic ass piano pre-chorus that introduces the chorus with the same lyrics. this is only a b-side right? same as hala hala man, that’s insane lol this is title track material for many groups

all in all i really enjoyed their songs like nothing that i genuinely disliked! my favorites would be hala hala, pirate king and utopia
