Putin’s Days in Office Numbered After Kremlin Insider Warned: ‘It’s the Beginning of End!'
EXPRESS | 8/11/2022 — VLADIMIR PUTIN may have condemned himself to an early political departure with his invasion of Ukraine after a Kremlin insider previously warned that the move was the "beginning of the end" for his time in power. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has tried to rally his soldiers after he said he aims to end the war with Russia "quickly".
Speaking yesterday, Mr Zelensky urged the West to continue supplying weapons so that his men can "inflict maximum damage" on Russian forces. He added: "The more losses the occupiers suffer, the sooner we will be able to liberate our land and ensure the security of Ukraine. "This is what everyone who defends our state and helps Ukraine should think about how to inflict the greatest possible losses on the occupiers in order to shorten the war."
Despite Russia's military superiority, Ukraine has managed to prevent the invading force from achieving many of its objectives throughout the course of the conflict. It is now thought that Russian President Vladimir Putin will be feeling the weight of the pressure from within his own political circle.
Jack Barsky, a former sleeper agent of the KGB who spied on the US from 1978 to 1988, and later switched sides to provide intelligence for Washington, believes Putin’s days in power are now numbered. Speaking to CBS News in March, just a month after the invasion began, Mr Barsky shed light on how the Kremlin operates under the authoritarian rule of Putin.
He warned that the Russian despot's failings in Ukraine could be the "beginning of the end" for his time in power.
Mr Barsky said: "Assuming that he can survive this, assuming there isn't a sort of coup against him — so long term, he'll be in trouble if this keeps going like this, if more soldiers keep dying. He'll have an Afghanistan on his hands,” referring to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979.
He continued: "And as you know, Afghanistan was the beginning of the end of the Soviet Union — and Ukraine may become the beginning of the end of Putin as a dictator."
Mr Barsky also discussed what is motivating Putin's imperialistic ambitions, citing the collapse of the Soviet Union as a pivotal moment in the life of the Russian President. Putin was serving in the KGB at the time, and was stationed in East Germany when the Berlin Wall collapsed in 1989.
Mr Barsky said that, at this point, Putin "went from being a member of the most powerful organization, living the good life in East Germany, to somebody who was completely helpless, defending that position." He added: "I think that left a deep impression on him and it motivated him to rebuild — not necessarily the Soviet Union, but greater Russia. This is what he is after." Familiar with the inner-workings of the Kremlin, Mr Barsky believes that Putin will show no regard for the "suffering of the Russian people".
Noting Putin’s "tight grip on power", he added: "As long as he satisfies his inner circle — the folks that are directly supporting him — he doesn't have much to fear. He is very well protected." 4-Fighting in Ukraine has reached a crucial phase, as after months of Russian offensives, Kyiv is now launching a counteroffensive aimed at pushing their adversaries out of key regions in the south and the east of the country.

Battleship Potemkin [Bronenosets Potyomkin] ***** (1925, Aleksandr Antonov, Vladimir Barsky, Grigori Aleksandrov) – Classic Movie Review 4919
Co-writer/director Sergei M Eisenstein’s 1925 Soviet silent movie classic recreates the successful sailors’ revolt against their officers aboard the Russian battleship Potemkin in Odessa harbour in 1905 when faced with eating maggot-ridden food. Eisenstein’s dramatised account continues with the street demonstration that brought on a massacre of a crowd of unarmed civilians including women and…

Are Trump's Republican defenders Russian assets—or just useful idiots? Veteran intelligence officials weigh in.
(…)
Fast forward to today. We see a vastly transformed environment in which the digital age has become a multiplying force for disinformation. And too many Americans, I’m sad to say, really are falling for it.
The most gullible, ironically, are those on the right—traditionally hardline opponents of Moscow. From 2014 to 2018, Russia’s favorable rating among Republicans soared 22 points, according to a Gallup poll, forty percent of whom said Russia was an ally or friendly. By contrast, 25 percent of Democrats viewed Russia favorably.
Most worrisome, however are Republican politicians who wittingly, or not, put our national security at risk by falling for the obvious tricks of Vladimir Putin and his minions. (…)
Politicians who slavishly parrot Russian propaganda fall into three categories: the Cynical (those who know better but peddle the lies anyway); Useful Idiots (those who are easily manipulated); and the Compromised (those who are actual Russian assets who do Moscow’s bidding because they were recruited one way or another).
The third category—being compromised by a foreign power—is the most sensitive. I therefore asked three intelligence veterans their views on the chances of some members of Congress being under direct Russian control.
First, I spoke with Jack Barsky, an East German recruited and trained by the KGB to serve as a “sleeper agent” in the U.S. for a decade. Eventually, Barsky turned on his masters and helped the FBI. He is now a U.S. citizen. He told me, “I do believe that politicians as a class are some of the most vulnerable targets for foreign intelligence. I believe that the damage done by the ‘useful idiots’ is far greater than that done by one or two active assets.” The chances of there being Russian controlled actors among members of Congress, he said, are “low but not zero.”
Second, I reached out to a former CIA senior officer with nearly three decades working primarily on Russia operations. The ex-official said, “I‘ve long worried about the existence of ‘controlled sources.’ Russian intelligence doctrine on active measures makes clear that the most important part of any campaign is recruited and controlled sources. I have no way of knowing if there are people in the Republican Party or Congress who are controlled sources but I’d bet my home that there are some high-level sources that have helped the Russians. If there aren’t any, it would be the first time ever.” (…)
The sad truth may be that changing the warped mindset of Republicans regarding Trump is a more urgent national security need than taking on Russian propaganda.
Until that happens, you can count on American democracy to keep unraveling.
