hard to explain my preferred technological aesthetic but its like...

elements of 90s visual design in gaming machines and electronics in general, with a focus on somewhat user-unfriendly interaces, very tough casings. everytihng being big and bulky but also somewhat brightly colored, heavy use of cartridges in most things. buttons are on/off switches that make a satisfying CLACK noise when you move them

emphasis on wires; no wireless, or they're rare. antennae, landlines and so on; button interfaces for phones might be rotary. In general, big bit for user interfaces to be clicky, make noises and not be discreet at all

some visual themes similar to this:

the style draws a lot of influence from Casette Futurism in a lot of ways, but its not QUITE that; some elements of it are a bit too less advanced than what I'm thinking of; not colorful enough, not quite late 90s/early 2000s at the point where the eras blur into each other

technological visuals that are big and clanky; if there's cybernetics, they are always bulky, even ugly and weird looking

i THINK there's a specific aesthetic for this but i have no idea what it is, if anyone can identify it please let me know!

The Aesthetic Compass

Hey guys! This right here is my idea for a tool similar to the political compass but for aesthetics. As you can see, the vertical axis measures aesthetics from traditional to modern, and the horizontal axis measures aesthetics from serious to playful. The compass is divided into four quadrants: - Traditional-serious (Stately): e.g.: Academia - Traditional-playful (Whimsical): e.g.: Cottagecore - Modern-serious (Contemporary): e.g.: Minimalism - Modern-playful (Funky): e.g.: Memphis I hope you liked my idea!
