Something I love about Symmetra's short story "Rebuilding Ruins" is that it shows the subtle shittyness of Vishkar and how performative they really are. We know they're a bad organization, their whole thing is gentrification.

But the way it's detailed that the Vishkar academy and Vishkar themselves make little to no effort to accommodate neurodivergent students and company members but also "other" those students in many ways. Satya states both in "Rebuilding Ruins" and "Stone by Stone" that her being autistic, her being different, was constantly brought up around her in a very demeaning way, she mentions being overstimulated by the lights, finding certain clothing she's forced to wear uncomfortable. To me it also seems like it was used as a manipulation tactic to make Satya reliant on Vishkar, to increase her loyalty.

A lot of the details in this short story were very surprising to me and very well done, this just cause my attention specifically.

So I'm guessing it's safe to assume that all Vishkar recruits or Hard Light prospects must undergo some cybernetic augmentation to use their abilities and tech. I'm also wondering what Niran's alignment is since he's alumni. Is he part of Vishkar's gentrification tactics or a deserter but remains a neutral party

Well according to his origin story, Junkrat mentioning his having a bounty on his head, and his "Time to go disappointing my mother again" line, he's left Vishkar! (Also he's a middle child!! Yaaaayy he's like me!!!) I think his alignment is neutral to chaotic good. He's definitely not an ecoterrorist type, but he does want to help the world survive, which pits him against corporations that harm the environment--as we saw with those big deforestation machines in the origin story.

Edit: The origin story also further confirmed that cybernetics are uniformly used across vishkar--you can see in the "Uniformity is strength" slide that all (what I assume to be architechs) have prosthetic arms.

But also in Symmetra's "Architech/Vishkar" skins, you can see she still has her organic arm and hand, just in a kind of power glove sleeve thing:

I think from here we can assume that *The most advanced* architechs get their full arms replaced after years of training with hard light in order to fully optimize their abilities.

Also, I wonder if the organization Venture is a part of is connected to Vishkar in some way? Their logos are kind of similar, and both have global operations (which I suppose isn't saying much in Overwatch but still)

i’ve been put into an overwatch era so here’s my oc that i’m revamping! please feel free to ask any questions or critique anything :) backstory and story coming next!

overwatch name: sehr

backstory: a paleontologist that discovered a warehouse hidden beneath a mile of dirt. upon finding a way in through a long cave system, she found a left behind armory, covered floor to ceiling with scattered blueprints and weaponry. she picked up one of the blueprints- there was no port for gas or any oil. multiple solar panels were on all of the artillery- could they really be powered by the sun?

how is she a support? how does her attack work?

-her weapon, a simple light blaster, is filled with mirrors and lenses, able to amplify any form of light, especially the sun, into a deadly beam. her healing does not work through her weapon, though she can still use it at the time of healing (with slowed attack speed).

her healing can either be a close range ability that can heal up to two nearby allies, and its intensity increases due to the number of Light Particles she currently holds. Light Particles are obtained through her standard attack. the maximum number is three, which will fully heal one ally and heal another for half of their hp, regardless of character. her ultimate is a burst heal, much like zenyatta’s, with beams similar to mercy’s ultimate, but for a shorter duration and with more limited movement. a beam of light flows from her to each of her teammates and progressively heals them, decreasing with distance. during this period of time, zarifa’s attack is slightly increased, and the generation speed of Light Particles increases, though they cannot be used until her ultimate is over.

how does this all work?

through her repeated experimentation with vishkar’s tech and assistance from a friend, zarifa implanted a number of altered solar chips in her skin. said chips would react with the weapons, and solar power gathered from one could charge the other further (see: Light Particles). the implants are in her left cheekbone, right wrist, and at the top of both of her shoulders. due to the process used for putting them in and the occasional overheating, all areas are scarred and marked by a small raised pink square. due to the chips absorbing and transmitting solar energy, those areas tend to be warmer, and overheating of any for any duration of time could be lethal. small chips, along with a larger, central command implant in her chest, allow for zarifa to conduct solar energy and power, and thus power her healing and blaster.

what about her demeanor?

zarifa prides herself strongly on her work, but also on the saying to ‘love life, because what else is there?’. though she may seem off putting at first, especially when absorbed into a project for days on end, zarifa enjoys simpler things such as tinkering with a broken remote, or befriending a cat on the base. though she holds herself strongly in battle and training, she does not like to think that she is intimidating.

how does she fare with others?

she believes that respect should be earned, and not freely given. though she respects all members of overwatch, should they do anything to break it, she isn’t above failing to repair a personal belonging or triggering the fire alarm in their quarters only. her trust is not easy to earn- given her line of work, that is to be expected, but after she was nearly manipulated into imprisonment, zarifa rarely works outside of her quarters. unless special equipment is required, she refuses to let anyone see her working out of fear that they’ll take it back from her again—

and after the threat that had been made- that they’d rip her command chip straight out of her chest. she has protected her work with her life, and refuses to let it be taken from her, whether it be by physical means or by making her reveal how she makes it work.

I'm too lazy to draw Don's story for now, but I'll tell you a few facts:

he lost his parents at a young age during a car uprising in Mexico, on the same day he lost his hand under the rubble of their house.

After a while, Olivia (aka Sobra) helped him and placed him in Los Muertos, where he was given a hand from some omnic.

Having become an adult, the guy got a job in Vishkar and made friends with Niran (Lifeweaver) there, since both loved plants, even if Hector just collected them, and Niran wanted to change the world.

A couple of years later, Vishkar sent the Don to Junkertown to offer them restoration, but the Queen drove him in the neck, but the culture of the locals with their crazy fur fights sunk into his soul. As well as a couple of mercenaries who sheltered him when the guy was robbed in Junkertown.

After the failure, the guy did not want to return to Vishkar and simply opened his own flower shop in his homeland, but he did not manage to live in peace, because travel is expensive, and he still wanted to collect a collection of different plants - he got it from his mother. Therefore, he accepted Sombra's offer to join the Talon, which became his family.

He received a wooden hand precisely in the Talon- the basis was a gift from his mother on the day she died, namely a sprout of delonix, whose name he reworked into his nickname. By that time it was already a full-fledged tree and only a branch was needed. Moira made his hand, albeit unsuccessfully, and at first the tree almost completely swallowed Hector, since he escaped with only scars on his face, neck and part of his chest.

His abilities will be associated with all stages of his life, as he borrowed a lot while working for different factions

Although because of the omnics, Hector lost his parents, and his entourage constantly spoke of hatred for them, he considers them charming and tries to become more human by adding sense organs

He is pansexual, but no one has seen him have a relationship, even though he flirts with everyone, but this is more of a distraction. Although Sombra has long been rumored that he feels something for his boss Maximilien

He calls all members of the Talon as family members: Sombra - sister, Doomfist - brother, Moira - mother, Sigma - father, Reaper - uncle, Widow - aunt

LUMÉRICO REVELATIONS: CEO GUILLERMO PORTERO UNDER FIRE

DORADO, MEXICO—LumériCo has been engulfed in scandal by documents brought to light by the hacker collective known as "Sombra." The documents are alleged to have been obtained during recent security breaches of the energy company's internal networks. While LumériCo and Mexican law enforcement have categorized these break-ins as criminal actions, the Sombra collective claims that it is "only acting in the public interest."

At this time, the massive file dump is still being analyzed and dissected, but a number of allegations have already been made, many of them focusing on the office of LumériCo CEO Guillermo Portero. Documents indicate that Mr. Portero used the company's funds as his own piggy bank, that he was personally involved in bribing public officials and creating a system of kickbacks and payoffs beneficial to LumériCo, and finally, that he proposed a plan to seize privately held land via government expropriation to expand LumériCo's facilities throughout Mexico.

In addition, emails revealed conversations with Indian megacorporation Vishkar to explore the exporting of LumériCo's proprietary energy systems to Vishkar's developments worldwide. Vishkar itself has recently been the subject of inquiries regarding its business dealings, particularly in the wake of its newest projects in Rio de Janeiro. Given the amount of investment Mexico has put into LumériCo, a partially state-sponsored energy company, its cozy relationship with Vishkar should be a cause for concern.

Mr. Portero has forcefully denied the accusations. "It is preposterous to place any faith in records purported to have been obtained by thieves. They are complete fabrications and have no basis in reality. I have dedicated my life to my home—my country—and I have only operated with the highest levels of integrity. I am confident that my name and the reputation of LumériCo will be cleared, that these baseless claims will be shown to be without merit, and that these criminals who have repeatedly broken the laws of our civil society will be brought to justice."

Meanwhile, Los Muertos, which has come out as a strong supporter of Sombra in recent days, has responded to the collective's revelations, calling for the immediate resignation and arrest of Mr. Portero and his co-conspirators, the deactivation of LumériCo's power plants pending an independent investigation into the company's governance, and reparations to citizens affected by LumériCo's policies. Los Muertos is organizing a protest to coincide with LumériCo's unveiling of the Dorado nuclear plant on November 1st.

Thinking about the Vishkar cybernetic “upgrade” happening as soon as a student turns a certain age (thinking something like 16 to give them time to get used to it before graduation/starting work with the company, though it could even be as young as 13). Thinking about Niran having to go through the procedure first since he’s 6 months older, and then Satya trying to swallow her growing fear as the months pass and she watches Niran suffer through the phantom pains and the emotional trauma of having a perfectly healthy part of your body cut off. While Niran wears his feelings loudly, Satya retreats into herself, plugging her ears while Niran cries in the night
