@allthingsglittergoldâ asked:
Examine: Your team!
These monsters saved your life.Â
They are your best friends. They have all been through so much, and you grow with them to make sure that their lives and your own are being lived to the fullest. Charizard you remember holding in your lap and spinning until he threw up and then he wanted to do it again. Pikachu? You feel like you have known Pikachu your entire life. It feels like you should have been sharing a cradle but you havenât. Pikachu knows you better than anyone in the entire world. The same can be said in reverse.
You think Venusaur was born old. She was ancient when there was a rescue attempt to get the oldest Bulbasaur heâd ever seen out of a hole under Nugget Bridge. You picked her up, and she grinned at you and kissed you on the cheek like you was her grandson. Youâve been best friends and confidants since. Sheâs old enough to remember when Viridian was just a bunch of sprouts in the ground.
Which is insane. And not surprising. At one point she says there were legends about lost children in the forest, who were escorted by a kindly old woman-witch. Itâs her. She used to eat fairies, she says. Now she settles on swallowing the life out of anyone he fights.
They donât need all of it, she reasons.
You think that she might have been human once. Youâve never had other family besides your mom, so she fits with you like a missing piece.
Blastoise killed someone. A pokĂ©mon trafficker. You showed up just in time to claim that it was just an accident (which you knew was incorrect), to spare the little squirtle punitive action. He became your responsibility with his spirit broken. Heâs your best friend. You healed together, fought like mad together, and he taught you cunning and courage you didnât know you had before meeting him. Blastoise makes sure you are safe, and you make sure that he is safe. Absolutely nothing can separate you.
Charizard? Your big softy and hardest fighter. His heartâs solid gold and his fire burns like the sun. You picked him because your names matched. Red like a flame. Heâs the biggest member of your usual rotation by twice as much, and everyone busts his chops constantly because he has a sense of humor and can take it. Heâs your best friend, and you almost died together at Silph Co. Without him? You donât know what would have happened.
Snorlax is such a sweetheart that itâs hard to be unhappy around him. He loves food, he loves traveling, and he loves you so much. He hugs you all the time (despite the fact that your bones may pop one day), and likes to keep offering you new berries to try. Heâs the guy everyone goes to for comfort and support. Every single member of the team likes curling up with him. Heâs strong as hell and doesnât mind setting the record straight either when he has to fight. Fightingâs his hidden passion. Heâs your best friend. You like playing the flute for him in the morning.
Lapras is one of the kindest and most beautiful pokĂ©mon youâve met in your life. She entranced the team. She can sing like sheâs pulling her voice straight from the divine realm. She shocked Blastoise into tears the first time she met him. She was young, injured, and scared when you collect her, and now sheâs one of the most ethereal members of the team. She loves you and loves your entourage so much that itâs almost painful. Sometimes, sheâll gum at your hair to âfixâ it fondly. Blastoise always is sweet on her when sheâs out. This is your best friend.
Espeon is your rotator in battles. Sheâs always around you. You got her from a woman in Celadon who bred pedigree eevee and this one? Absolute runt. You named her âBabyâ and she likes riding in your hood when Pikachuâs not in it. You can tell her anything without words, and she likes pressing her cheek against you and sleeping at the back of your neck to keep you warm. You kiss her tiny head a lot and sheâs the one that surprises everyone the most in battle. Sheâs so tiny but youâve seen her crack cement foundations. She is your best friend.

Smell of Plum Blossom Tea Ch 15
Summary:Â Just like a butterfly wing, a single act of kindness can change the course of the future, it certainly did for MK as a black furred monkey put out a hand towards him
Rating: Teen and up
Chapter 15: Plotting Revenge is a Good Bonding Activity
âAnd then you showed up and, well you know the rest,â Red Son exhaled as the three of them sat down on the swings at the park. It had taken a week before he eventually had the courage, and while making sure his father was rested, to face his friends once more.
âSo you're the one who took the skeleton key,â MK said.
âYeah,â the prince nodded and braced himself for the accusations.
âOh thank god, I really thought I lost it on accident,â MK sighed in relief as he sagged on the swings.
âStill kinda lost it,â she pointed out.
âBut at least it wasnât through me just forgetting it somewhere!â He pumped his fists in the air, promptly forgetting he was on a swing and was now flailing his arms trying to not fall off.
ââŠokay you're both taking this a little too easily,â the prince deadpanned as he stopped himself from tugging on his hair, âwhy arenât you both mad at me?â
âFor?â They both turned to him with a raised eyebrow.
âFor? For?!? I stole from you and didnât say a word until everything blew up in all of our faces and had a crisis that almost destroyed the city-AGAIN!â He had to jump off the swing as he paced in front of them. âWhy arenât you both pissed off at me?!â
âWell for one, the key was cool and all, but it didnât have, like, any real sentimental value,â MK shrugged, âI mean I had it for like a day.â
âTwo, it just opens locks, which is pretty bad with certain things like banks and homes, but at least itâs not a weapon of mass destruction,â Mei finger gunned him.
âAnd three, most importantly, itâs you,â MK finished.
Red Son looked at him with the most dumbfounded look.
âWhat is that supposed to mean?â
âWell you like to call yourself a villain, but I have never actually seen you do any hardcore villainy stuff,â he pointed out.
âI once saw you make fire animals to a group of children because they complimented you on your flame head,â she grinned.
âThey have good taste,â he averted his eyes away from the both of them as a small flush appeared on his cheeks.
âBut my point is,â MK stepped off the swing and put a hand on his shoulder, âyou have been with us to know long enough that what you say isnât what you do. You have a very soft and squishy heart underneath all those flames.â
âNo! I do not!â He instantly denied, ignoring how his face brightened.
âYes you do,â both humans said as MK confined, âand I like to think that while it has only been a few months, I know you wouldnât steal something of ours unless you were forced to.â
Red Son said nothing as he clenched his fists, but that was all the confirmation that the two needed.
âExactly my point, so I was hurt at first, but it turned out alright in the end, so donât be too upset about it okay. I have already forgiven you,â he gave a big hug to the demon.
âItâs in the past nightlight, all is already good between us,â Mei joined in on the hug and grinned, âbut I wouldnât mind some ice cream after this.â
The demon Prince froze in their warm embrace as he slowly relaxed and lifted both his arms around his friends. âWeâre going to the good one, not the rip off that tries to scam up for a mint chocolate chip, only for it to be vanilla and fucking peppermint candy inside.â
âAgreed,â both humans instantly said, that was the most disappointing Iâve cream joint they have ever been to and they saw ones where they can even mess up vanilla ice cream.
âWe so need to catch up,â Mei said as she laid her head on Red shoulder, âthere have been so much that you missed, and learning that the Monkey King and pops have a thing for each other is a whole nother ball game that needs to be discussed.â
âIâm sorry WHAT?!â He held them both out as his hair slightly flicker in shock at that abrupt news.
âOhh boy,â MK sighed as he slumped down. âI need some mind numbing ice cream before we even go into this.â
âIce cream,â Mei echoed.
ââŠfucking ice cream,â the demon eye twitched. This was going to be one hell of a conversation.
âThey like each other?!â He slammed his spoon down.
âNot so loud,â MK groaned as he put his head to the table.
âBut yeah,â Mei continued with a spoon in her mouth, âthey have a total thing for each and the real kicker is that both sides are dense enough to not realize that.â
âYour fucking with me,â he deadpans.
âThere is no fucks to be seen.â
âUnless they do it with each other.â
âMei!/Whyâd you put that image in my head,â Red yelled as MK groaned.
âWhat?â She shrugged her shoulders. âIâm just saying, besides I still donât like the half priced knock off Monkey god trying to hook up with pops,â she narrowed her eyes.
âOh,â the prince was a bit surprised by this, âI thought you idolized him, what changed?â
âWell first, never really idolized him, thatâs all on MK.â
âI feel no shame,â he crossed his arms.
âGot really disillusioned by him with all of Makkieâs stories. And secondly, I hands down donât believe that the great almighty Monkey King is good enough for him,â she bluntly stated.
âI mean you're not wrong, but explain,â the bull demon leaned in. He has known the Six Eared Macaque for a very long time, the monkey healer has taught and shown him many things throughout their lives, and has saved it just as many, if not more. So itâs needless to say that he sees the monkey as an uncle for a very long time.
âI mean other than fighting pops and almost trying to kill him over his fuck up-â
âWHAT!/He wasnât trying to kill him!â
âHe canât just expect to walk in and pretend everything is all fine and good between them after he made pops blind and severed their friendship for five hundred years. Pops had mourned for him and self deprecated himself during his bad days, he feels the guilt and shame that had overcome him and he emotionally understood his wrongdoings but has been trying-no he has turned over a new leaf. He had changed and has learned better from the immature monkey he once was, but the same canât be said for the Monkey King. Cause instead of talking about it, what does he do? He fucking yells and attacks him!â She slammed her fist on the table. âHe attacked him and when MK stepped in between the two, which is still so very fucking stupid by the way.â
âYou did what?â Red looked towards the sheepish human.
âI had to stop them somehow!â
âNot with your life!â
âWell, now I know for next time.â
âThere better not be a next time!â
âIt was still MK who had to stop the dumbass from fighting,â Mei growled out. âAnd he still had the audacity to question pops about trying to use MK like the fuck?! Who the fuck does he think he is to think that he has any parental right over him other than Pops. None! Zilch! Fucking zero! He has nothing except that pretty little staff that MK somehow is able to lift, which by the way we really need to figure out how that is possible.â
âOh believe me, Iâve been trying so hard to figure that part out as well,â MK sighed.
âBut my point to all of this is, I know he is a good monkey, him saving the city and mentoring MK and all that, but he is absolute garbage when it comes to actually acknowledging the fact that things donât stay the same, everything has changed.â She let out a huff and proceeded to finish her melting ice cream.
âWowâŠyou really have thought about this,â the demon said as he watched her.
âWell I had some time to think and I still stand by Monkey King not being good enough for pops.â
âNo one is good enough for dad,â MK muttered, making his two friends a bit surprised.
âIâm a bit shocked, I would have thought you would have been all for letting the Monkey King and Macaque court each other,â he tilted his head. âWhy the change of heart?â
âNo change, itâs just that-wellâ he began to fiddle with the ends of his violet headband, âI know the Monkey King and I know he is an amazing mentor, always includes me when the tribe comes around, loves to feed me, and he is just a good person. I grew up on the stories about him and what he has accomplished. I canât help but idolize him and want to stay by his side through thick and thin. Itâs just that-thatâŠâ he trailed off and hesitated with his next words.
âBut not as much as pops,â Mei saw what he was getting at.
ââŠyeah, not as much as pops. As much as that seems mean, he has been with me for so long that I canât imagine my life without himâŠHave I ever told you guys how I met dad?â He suddenly said as both human and demon shook their heads.
âAll I know is that he found you in an alley one day and youâve been with him since then,â the pigtail girl stated. âBut I have a feeling thereâs a lot more to it than that.â
âYes and no,â MK pushed away his bowl, âhe did find me in an alley and took me in for the night, fed me, treated my injuries, and comforted me, but that was supposed to be my only stay there.â
âSo what changed?â Red softly asked.
âMy former parents werenât good people,â he breathed out. It took a long time before he could finally admit to himself that his sperm donors were selfish, good for nothing, assholes that only cared about two things, their nonexistent reputation and money. That night might have set a world record on how long he hugged his pops as he just wouldnât let go even when the morning came.
Both human and demon knew exactly what he meant without any unneeded details as both their eyes glowed an ominous scarlet and viridian.
âWhere are they?â The Bull and Dragon successor echoed as a small burst of energy flickered off them.
âShould really be glad that today is a Monday and no one is around,â MK winced as he took a glance around outdoors. âGuys, calm down. Iâm fine, itâs been over ten years since I last saw them and I doubt I will ever see them again.â
The two begrudgingly settled down like a petulant child and slouched in their seats.
âLook dork, all I need is an address and I can promise you that I can make their lives a living hell,â Mei leaned in with a malicious smile. âThey will regret even wanting to breathe by the time Iâm done with them.â
âA name would suffice as well, itâs always prudent to know who the enemy might be in case there are no longer using the same location,â Red added as well.
âI am not giving you a name nor an address,â he sternly told them, âItâs been a long time since I saw them and I havenât thought about them since,â which may be a teensy lie as they do pop up from time to time in his head during his not so good days, but itâs best not to tell them that.
âBesides, while I donât exactly remember what happened that night I last saw them, I do know that they were terrified of Dad, whatever he said to them thoroughly shook them to their core.â He let a bit of vicious delight show on his face, he may not be a cruel person, but even he will happily admit that it was a bit cathartic to think back on that night and watch the emotional journey they went through that night as the life drain out their face the longer Dad spoke to them. Itâs a bit messed up yes, but can you really blame him, he had to put up with their shit.
âLike he would do anything less for his child,â Mei smirked, âI guess Iâll let them off this time.â
âGood,â MK smiled as he got up to throw away all of their trash.
âWeâre so getting it off of Mac,â Mei whispered to Red.
âUndoubtedly,â he subtly nodded, âthey will feel pain.â
âWhen Iâm done with them not even the morticians would want to come near them,â both shared a devilish smile, but quickly widened it when MK came back.
âAnyways,â he sat down with a huff, âbefore I got into all of that, what I was trying to say is that yes I respect the Monkey King, but I will always hold Dad to my heart first before anyone else.â
âHear hear,â she pointed in the air, âso, does that mean you donât want the great and powerful Monkey King to date pops.â
âNot really,â he winced at how bad that sounded. âI mean donât get me wrong, but they just got back to being friends and I donât think that it would be a good idea to jump into any type of romantic relationship so soon.â
âSounds like an excuse but I donât care, preach it!â She laughed and threw a fist in the air.
âItâs not an excuse,â well maybe a little, âitâs just that Dad said that he swore off dating for a long time after his last partner.â
âBy the gods, we donât talk about his previous partners, especially lemur bitch,â Red groaned as he knocked his head on the table, hoping that this would be the blow that would finally free his mind of those atrocious memories.
âYeah Iâve been hearing that a lot, but what exactly did he do?!â Mei turned to look at the groaning prince.
âYou really donât want to know.â
âHeard that a lot as well and I still say, yes I really do,â the monkey successor added.
âIâm not-â
âPleassseee!â Both humans begged with a puppy dog look in their eyes.
âAll Iâm willing to say is do not eat anything that he gives you and donât show signs of high intelligence,â he pushed their faces back.
âWell I donât have to worry about the second one,â MK grinned.
âSame!â Mei high fived him.
Red Son just looked at the two humans, one who was trying to earn his doctoral degree in Medicine and the other who almost finished with her bachelorâs in Mechanical Engineering. He blinked once, then twice, opened his mouth, then promptly closed it and instead pinched his nose.
âBut about that first thing,â Mei turned her attention back to the demon, âis his cooking really that bad or is there a little extra something he puts in there.â
âThe second one, I donât know exactly what happened, and I thank everyone for that, but I do know that Macaque was unconscious for a few days and when he awoke he felt an underlying desire to grovel at Shunâs feet and adore him and only him.â
âHe made a love potion?!â
âMore like a love poison,â he shuddered. While he had never ingested one before, there have been times where he was sent food laced with these poisons. Luckily he had never taken a bite of it before, but the first time it had happened, he swore that he had never seen both his parents so furious before. âThey make the user attracted to the designated target and they will forever obey their every whim and command while under this spell, or at least until the spell wears off. The more potent and permanent ones have either been destroyed or kept under a watchful eye of a higher deity or demon.â
âThat sounds fucking horrible,â MK grimaced.
âYeah, like a 50/10 of no fucking thank you,â Mei scrunched up her nose.
âExactly, so this is one of the reasons why Macaque decided best to get the fuck out of that and break up with him.â
âOne of the reasons?â
âOne of the reasons,â Red didnât exactly know how to tell him that Shun had an unhealthy obsession with the simian, always stalking him, getting overly possessive, and those were just the blatant things. Yeah, itâs best to just let it be and forget that creepy ass fucker, itâs not like heâll ever show his face again after his beat down courtesy of Macaque.
âAnd that just further emphasized my point!â The teen said, âhe wants nothing to do with a romantic relationship of any kind, so he and Monkey King getting together would just be bad all around.â
âAnd I totally agree, so if Monkey ass tries to hurt Pops at any time, I already have Operation Sticky Surprise all bundled up and ready to go,â the dragon successor gave an evil looking grin.
âSticky Surprise?â
âMei has been making plans on plans on how to make the Monkey King life a living hell aside from outright killing him,â MK deadpanned.
âKilling is boring, humiliation is a lot more fun and it comes with the added bonus of there being so many different ways to do it! I also have Operation Inkblot, Stink Butt, Bug Devastation, Hangman Riot, Gossip Thrill, Paranoia Pandemonium, Faeries Laughters-â
âYou got the Faeries involved in this?â Both boys looked horrified. âWhy?!â
âI asked and they were more than happy to agree. In fact, I got a lot more creatures to help me out as well, I have an entire file just for the forest!â She eagerly held out her phone and showed them the numerous folders in the file that was labeled âDragon Revenge: Forest Edition.â âWant to hear about it?â
ââŠyes,â he leaned in closer. He had to admit that he is morbidly curious on what exactly some of the plans may entail.
âWell, I have Operation NĂ Chorus, Qilin Stampede, BaBa Appetite, Macaque Monkeys Mania, Kappa War, and so much more. I even have another file that contains the one Daiyu and the rest of them made.â
âEven Ahmed?â
âEven Ahmed,â MK nodded. He should know as he was there that day when they were coming up with all of these elaborate plans. He felt he shouldnât have been so surprised when the lion demon came up with some gruesome one, involving a bag of blood and some nasty curses, but that has nothing on Minsheng and their ideas. Who knew glitter can be used that way.
âYou're just trying to humiliate him and possibly injure him in the process?â The demon asked.
âHeâs an immortal monkey that has been through a lot of shit, he can take whatever we throw at him,â she bluntly stated.
âHave you thought of using a vast amount of flour then igniting it? I know from experience that using the two would make an unexpected explosion,â the first time he cooked he burned down the whole kitchen while holding the bag of flour in his hands.
âNo, I did not,â Mei raised her phone and opened a new document, âtell me more.â
âNail polish is another flammable object, which is why I have never worn it until you forced it upon me, powdered sugar, Ping Pong balls, oranges-â
âWhy do you know this,â MK asked with a bit of horror in his tone.
âWell after I set my Pomelo on fire inside a safe house that we donât use often, I decided it would be best to look up what else in a regular home is fucking flammable and not so surprising, a lot of things are. But on the upside,â he matched Meiâs sinister grin, âitâs not common knowledge and I donât think the impulsive Monkey King would look up something like this if you know what I mean.â
âOh I know exactly what youâre getting at,â she grinned even wider, âit would be a damn shame if someone were to perhaps spill some sugar on him, and there just happens to be a flame.â
âOr maybe if someone wanted to try something daring with a Ping Pong ball only to âaccidentallyâ hit it in the wrong direction,â he ominously said.
âOh that would be bad.â
âVery bad.â
âAnnoyingly bad,â Mei leaned in, âTell me more.â
âWith pleasure.â
âI feel like I should stop them,â he pondered to himself as he watched his two friends plot his mentor not-demise. ââŠnahh, Iâm sure it will be fine.â
âWe can dump sodium medals in the water to really make an explosion!â
âYeah Iâm good,â MK deadpanned as he leaned back, âMonkey King can handle it himself.â
âWhat are you bozos doing here,â Mei huffed as she saw Yin and Gin at the arcade.
âWe may be elite demons with awesome powers and the everlasting hunger for a worthy fight,â Jin dramatically said.
âBut even we can get bored sometimes and MK mentioned this place before,â Yin finished as he concentrated on shooting the zombies. âSpeaking of, where is he? I usually see the two of you together.â
âI will mention the creepy stalking if I didnât do that myself,â she muttered, âbut couldnât make it, heâs currently doing his online courses right now.â
âOh right he did mention something about wanting to be aâŠhealer I think was the word.â
âNo dumbass, he is trying to be a physician. Healer is so Ming Dynasty bro,â Jin corrected his blue twin.
âHey Iâm the social one, you're the one who has their nose all up in the books,â he shrugged then pumped his fist in the air. âHell yeah, new level!â
âIâm still pissed off at the both of you for the stunt you did at the race track,â she said as she leaned on the racing game next to theirs.
âTo be fair, we knew we wouldnât win,â the orange demon said.
âYeah, it was mostly for fun.â
âWell that âfunâ almost cost me the medal and you really pissed off a lot of racers that day,â she stretched and hopped onto the bike. âSide note, if you ever meet a girl with purple hair, bright green eyes, and utterly jacked, you might want to scram. She was one of the competitors and sheâs the least bit happy with either one of you.â
âIs that so?â Jin hummed as he hopped on the bike next to her.
âYeah she wants to use your corpses as a gaudy rug for her front porch.â
âIt be like that sometimes,â both twins said.
âYou both seem way too chill about that,â she raised her eyebrow.
âWe have seen people, demons, deities, and creatures alike much scarier,â Yin started as he continued to shoot the zombies down.
âWe had masters who threaten to crush our bones, people using scrolls to torture our minds, deities making us relieve the worst days of our life over and over, demons stabbing us in the heart over and over, and the sheer presence of Macaque bearing down on the both of us,â Jin casually said.
Mei blinked a few times, âOkay that seems like a lot, but understandable. You met pops before?â
âYou know the Six Eared Macaque,â the blue demon turned his head to her, âof course you do, cause why not.â
âWe met him a few times after the whole Calabash incident and he is much scarier than the rumors made him out to be.â
âBut demon knows how to put on a good play.â
âYeah, his shadow play is a real banger,â Jin gave a toothy grin.
âSo you guys met him at the theater,â she deadpanned.
âYup,â both said.
âWhy am I not surprised,â she sighed and began the game, âwell Iâm gonna smoke your ass on this.â
âIâd like to see you try,â Jin grinned as he revved his engine.
âChildren, both of them,â Yin rolled his eyes, but he gave a loud shout as he noticed he finished the level. âHell Yeah! Thatâs what Iâm talking about!â
âI refuse to believe that you managed to make peaches taste sour,â Wukong scrunched up his nose as he disdainfully eyed the peach dried chips. âThis has to be some mockery or imitation, cause ainât no way in hell are those actual peaches.â
âHate to break it to ya,â Mac smirked as he took a chip in his mouth, âbut they are.â
âYou heathen,â he hissed out.
âPayback for the tainted Mango,â he smirked.
âOh come on! That was centuries ago!â
âAnd I hated every last bite of that disgusting piece of fruit that dared touch my tongue!â He barked back.
The sage threw up his arms and marched to the kitchen, âI am raiding your kitchen! I need to wash put that nasty taste and hope that it doesnât taste like a cup of lemon juice has just been freshly squeezed into my mouth.â
âYou big baby, itâs not even that sour,â he snorted as he took another handful of chips. He knew that Wukong hated the taste of anything sour, revenge never tasted so good.
âNo, no, no, why do you even have this,â he asked as he held up a bottle of Olive juice.
âBlame MK, last time he brought home an Aloe Vera milk which I didnât realize was even a thing,â and the sad thing was that it didnât taste bad, just extremely weird.
âCourse he did,â was all he said as he continued to scrimmage through the kitchen. âAha! Here weâŠgo?â He paused as he moved over the soda and spotted a large jug. âWhat are you?â He opened it up and the familiar smell hit his nose as he never forgets that smell. âYou mangy monkey!â
âHmm?â Mac raised his brow as Wukong leaped over him with a familiar jar in hand, âNo, you are not about to drink wine right now. I canât deal with your alcohol self, you are too fucking clingy and a hundred times more impulsive.â
âI wonât, but how did you manage to sneak this away,â he grinned and swished the half full jug in hand.
âHuh? What are you babbling on about?â
âHow did you get the Immortality wine, I know they have it locked up nice and tight after my little fiasco,â he held it up for further emphasis.
âThe what wine?!â He stalked over to him and snatched the jug out of his hands, âIs that what this is?!â
âYou drank it without even knowing what it is?â He shot the black simian an incredulous look, he knows that he is the one who is the most suspicious of getting anything from anyone, let alone something he doesnât know.
âDonât look at me like that!â He barked, âItâs from a friend who stops by once and a while. When-how-what the fuck Shen?â
âYou know someone who can just give you immortality wine,â he couldnât help but find a bit of amusement from his friend's expression.
âApparently, he comes by every once in a while and that fucker never told me what this shit is,â he growled that last part.
âHow do you know him?â
âHe was a friend of Ping!â He threw his hands in the air and marched back to the kitchen and put back the jug of very rare and sought after wineâŠon second thought it would probably be better if he found a better spot to put this.
âPing? The same Ping who taught you medicine and helped grow the forest Ping,â he stated as his tail swished behind him. He really wanted to just shake him and ask what the human was to him, but (for once) he kept down his impulsive thoughts and gently prodded him.
âYess,â he rubbed his neck out of a bout of nerves, âbut technically I made the forest, he said it would be a good way to plant a seed and take care of it to vent my frustration. Which is weird, but oh well and the next thing I know there is a forest.â
âSo you just forgot that seeds grow and made an entire ass forest without you even noticing,â Wukong smirked.
âIâm not that fucking blind that I didnât see an entire damn forest, it just didnâtâŠoccur to me that I made it,â he winced at how dumb that sounded. He rolled his eyes when he heard the first snort then a full blown laughter coming from the brown furred monkey. âYeah yeah, laugh it up.
âDonât worry,â he said in between breaths, âI will! Pffftttt! HAHAHAHAHAHA!â
He gave a petulant huff and went back to his warm tea with a laughing monkey following close behind. Eventually, the laughter subsided and all that was left was a smirking monkey leaning on a simian dead set on ignoring him.
âOnly you moonshine,â he smirked as he watched his friend turn his face away with a faint red blush. He knows that calling him cutesy nicknames doesnât get on his nerves no matter how many times he says so, but he secretly likes them. Itâs how he got away with some of the things he did, but now he has a new goal in mind as he casually stretched his arms behind Mac and gently let his fingers rest on his long fur.
âSoft. So soft. I donât think I ever felt his fur ever be this soft before,â he eyed the tantalizing fur curled in between his fingers. Just taunting him and begging him to please thread your fingers throughout the fluffy locks. âI really want to groom his fur,â his hands twitched as he watched to see if Macaque would stop him, but he saw his eyes closed and leaning back. He almost let out a purr at the sight of his friend's trust and really wanted to just put his whole body on him for cuddles, but managed to keep it down in time and instead readied himself to put his other hand to his fur, a door slamming open stopped him.
BOOM!
âGuess who's back and is hearing an obnoxious ringing noise in their ears!â A loud voice shouted out which made the two separate from each other, much to the ire of a brown furred simian.
âWho the-â he began to mutter.
âAnd what have I told you about keeping your voice down inside?â Macaque yelled back.
âToo many times to count,â Bohai sighed.
Minsheng chuckled as they walked in and noticed that his friend wasnât quite alone. âWell what do we have here?â
âHey there, you might know me, Iâm the-â he was cut off by the lion demon.
âThe Monkey King, I have seen images of you before,â Ahmed then gave a slight nod, âIâm Ahmed, itâs a pleasure to meet you.â
âRight back at you.â
âThe name is Daiyu chimp,â she gave a very harsh slap on his shoulder and sat on the edge of the couch.
âI mean not really a chimp-â
âIâm Bohai,â the jellyfish demon said with a glow, âweâve heard many things about you.â
âWhat kind? I mean there are a lot of stories-â he was cut off once more.
âAnd Iâm Minsheng,â they said as he sat in between the two monkeys, âand I would introduce you to Yanyu, but sheâs at work right now.â
âYanyu?â
âHis student,â Bohai commented as he watched the monkey demon sit the vulture down and is currently examining her ears.
âYou had a student?â
âWhat can I say, I have that charm,â he deadpanned then shot Daiyu a glare, âhow many times have I told you not to fuck with strange magical plants unless you know what it is!â
âAgain, too many times to count,â the jellyfish reiterated.
âShe heard the rumors about him and just went to the forest and forced him to teach her. But secretly, we all know Mac attack has a soft spot for the kiddos,â the bunny grinned as he saw that Mac was now purposefully tuning them out.
âYeah, I can tell,â he gave a sweet smile as he remembered all his interactions with both of his children.
All the demons not preoccupied silently blinked at Wukongâs words and expressions and it was all at once did it click for them. And they all shared a knowing look to one another.
âItâs nothing too bad,â Macaque concluded after he checked both her ears, medians, and body. âYou should be fine after some rest and water, which you will do even if I have to strap you down to that damn bed.â
âYou got it doc!â She saluted him and walked off.
He rolled her eyes at her antics and didnât even flinch when Ahmed sat down beside him. âPlease donât tell me you got injured in some way as well.â
âDonât worry, I did not,â he gave a deep chuckle.
âThank fuck,â he sighed and felt the lion began to come closer to him and began to nuzzle the top of his head. He knew exactly what was happening, âGoing through one of those moods again?â
âYeah, sorry bout thisâ he murmured.
âEh, itâs fine. Just do what you want,â he flippantly said and felt a purr of appreciation as he felt his fur getting licked.
And if the nuzzles didnât catch Wukongâs attention then the lion demon currently licking his longtime crush did as he had to hold back a screech of displeasure at the sight, but that didnât stop his whole body from twitching.
âYeah, Ahmed does that sometimes,â Min smirked as they watched the brown monkey's eyes twitch. âApparently lions do this for some social bonding and whatnot, but he especially likes to do this with Mac.â
âOh does he,â Wukong let a small hiss out.
âMmmhmm, sometimes hours would go by and he would still be at it,â Daiyu added and watched as his fingers dug into the cushion. Ohohoho she knows that look, it is the same look her sister gave to another male when he was trying to court the same chick as her, needless to say he can never land the same again, especially since heâs missing a foot and all.
âHours then they're ratherâŠclose then,â he had to put on a wide grin, but he couldnât help but bare a few teeth.
âOh yeah, we might have known Doc and Med first before they met each other, but when the two met, it was like a perfect match.â Bohai drew out. He knows exactly what his friends were trying to do and he finds no shame in joining in. Even without the stories of the two monkeys' relations, it was too easy to see the fondness that was coming off from the both of them.
âLike a puzzle piece fit together,â Sheng emphasized. They know that the Monkey Pleb had quite the temper on him, not even counting his impulsiveness, and they couldnât help but taunt the ever-loving fuck out of him. Life threatening, perhaps with all the killing he does, but fun, it is starting to look so much fun. Besides they already had their fun teasing Mac about this, now itâs the dumbass monkey's turn for his time in the spotlight.
He said nothing as he watched the two demons curl closer together.
âA perfect match? Fit together?! Like hell they are! Iâll show you-no calm down and breathe,â he took a deep breath and relaxed. âItâs okay. Moonshine trusts him and is okay with theâŠgrooming the lion is doing. They have known each other for quite some time, so of course he wouldnât mind.â He glanced back at the scene, watched Mac's content face and he further relaxed. âIâm really glad that he had people watching out for him and besides itâs not like there is any bigger reason behind this than bonding.â
Then Wukongâs eyes caught Ahmed and as the monkey was about to smile wider in his direction the lion gave a little smirk and nuzzled his face a little bit harder into the long black fur and let out a content purr. Ahmed may not have any romantic feelings towards the smaller demon, but that doesnât mean that he will willingly let go of him that easily. Macaque is a part of his pack and he is known for beingâŠviolently protective over each and every member of his small pack.
The Sage Monkey froze and barely stopped the growl coming out of his throat as he gritted his teeth while his eyes glinted a faint golden glow. âIâm gonna skin that overgrown cat!â
The rest of the demons subtly gave a thumbs up to the lion as they held back their laughter. Oh yes, they were all going to have so much fun with this.
A pack of fossa laid still in the grass as they quietly stalked their prey from behind. They followed the figure for some time waiting for the opportunity to strike as the prey continued a steady walk. The leader could almost feel the tender meat upon his teeth as he gazed upon their oversized prey. They have been only getting the small rabbits and birds and that wasnât enough, itâs never enough to fill them so they're quiteâŠhungry.
Then the prey stopped and so did they.
âI know you're there,â they all stilled as a soft voice called out. âI know youâve been following me for quite some time.â
They all glanced towards the leader for guidance on their next approach, so he hunched down low and began to crawl closer in preparation to pounce on him.
âAh ah ah,â the voice tutted, âI wouldnât do that if I were you. Though I am talking to mindless beasts, so perhaps I should speak in their language.â
Before any even had the chance to feel offended by the words, they all smell a strange odor before-
EYES. THEY WATCH WATCH WATCH WATCH ALL

TEETH TEETH SO MANY TEETH WHY WHY WHYWHYWHYWHYWH
Theyâre brought back to the field, their back with their bodies, back with their heads with no teeth about to snap it right off-
âIâm in a good mood, so Iâll let you off easy okay,â they all flinched at the soft voice. âWell, what are you waiting for? Run.â
And they did, they ran and ran and ran so far that not even the growl in their stomach bothered them. They just needed to run away fast, it was no wonder they didnât spot any other prey on the way here, they all must have sensed the predator. The terrifying predator with the teeth, why teeth, why so many teeth.
And they kept running.
âWell thatâs enough excitement for one night,â the voice sighed as he continued back on his path and threw out in the distance the illuminating sight of a city. âI am almost there, Iâll see you soon my love.â
While there was a moon high in the sky there was still vast darkness upon the path as not a single critter chirped nor a single rustle of leaves as he walked upon the path. The animals all cowered away from the frightening presence and hoped that the predator wouldnât look at them. But there were a few that were brave enough to slightly peek out from under their leaf or quietly look a smidge over their hole and get a glance at the predator retreating figure. All that they could see as it got farther and farther away was a black and white striped tail swishing softly behind him.

The Viridian Vanguard (Part 22)
Appropriately enough for an air weaver, Sayuriâs fury was like a raging storm, electricity violently discharging and sparking from her fur and her claws as she shouted at such a high volume and speed, it looked like even someone as normally calm, collected, and professional as Bee was quickly looking overwhelmed.
She quickly shot Weiss a look and gestured for her to back off, a stray jolt of electricity giving her some extra encouragement. Sayuri was still going as Bee tapped her staff on the ground, and a bubble formed around them, dulling the sound of her rage significantly, her ever intensifying discharges exploding, crackling, and fading all over the inner surface.
Pennyâs eyes suddenly brightened up, the pieces of her tail rapidly floating off of Weissâ shoulders as she shot up into the air. She quickly spun around once, before slowing down and stopping at Sayuri and Bee.
âIdentity, and source of your elevated stress levels both confirmed,â Penny said as she hovered down by Weissâ head. âAre you alright, Weiss?â
Weiss nodded slowly. âYeah, yeah Iâm good⊠should we⊠should we step in or something?â she asked, watching as Bee seemed to be trying to talk to Sayuri, keeping the warm, friendly expression on her face even as Sayuri was still seething, violently discharging electricity everywhere.
âDefinitely not,â Penny said firmly. âIf your mere presence alone could incite this level of extreme, violent emotions in Sayuri, youâre best off avoiding her, especially if you donât have a mediating figure such as Bee, or alternatively, some cause or crisis that will cause her to temporarily put her personal grudge aside.
âI advise you and I both leave until Sayuri calms down completely. In line with that, Iâm detecting Winterâs comm-crystal signal nearby; would you like to go to her?â
Weiss nodded, and the two of them made a discrete exit, pushing back into the crowds once more.
They came out of the crush and to a mana water fountain, which seemed to be built out of a still living tree. Winter was loitering by a small pool near the roots, her summonsâs soul stones deep inside the water. âDid something happen?â she asked as they came up.
âJust the usual,â Weiss muttered, before Penny perched herself on a nearby branch, and replayed the earlier events.
âSeriously?!â Winter asked. âI could understand her coming for you specifically from the whole team name business, but what are the odds, even, that sheâd join up in the same class as Weiss, just in time to save it from being dissolvedâŠ?!â
âIâm afraid I donât have enough information nor similar events on record to make an estimate, let alone an accurate one,â Penny replied. âThat asideâand full disclosure, this is speaking purely through basic pattern recognition without any further experimentation, research, or theory testing on my or anyone elseâs partâthe most extremely improbable events just seem to keep consistently happening to Weiss specifically, against most laws of probability, so long as it inconveniences, threatens, or harms her in some way, shape, or form.â
âSeems Grandpa really WAS onto something when he talked about our family probably being cursed...â Weiss muttered, before she sighed heavily, and leaned into Winterâs side. âIâm really glad youâre here with me now, Winter, and staying for the long-term; it makes me feel more confident about whatever impending shit storm Iâll be facing, knowing youâre back here with me.â
âThink nothing of it,â Winter said, wrapping her arm around Weissâ side. âIâve got about a decadeâs worth of big sister-ing to catch up to, anyway.â
âExcuse me, donât mean to interrupt your sisterly bonding moment, but I feel I should really talk to you three before you get to class,â Bee said as she stepped up.
Weiss turned to her and looked around warily. âWhereâs Sayuri?â she asked.
âSheâs already on her way to class, and Iâm happy to report, I managed to talk her down without incident,â Bee said, smiling, before her expression turned serious. âAnd speaking of Sayuri: I really have to please ask you that you donât let her be a deal breaker; it took a LOT of time and effort to shift about and reschedule your eight other classmates from your original arrangements, and itâs a serious decision for any teacher to let go of their students to a special class like this, however short-term.
âA lot of the latter are working towards their Masterâs Rites, and often are doing this as their full-time jobs; one less student under their tutelage could mean the difference between getting the opportunity to even be considered for the Rites within the next couple of years, or a serious blow to their income.
âNot to mention, if you back out of this now, itâll be a lot harder for you to argue for special considerations and classes in the future...â
âAlright, alright, I get it! I wonât quit because of Sayuri, you can stop now,â Weiss said, before she shook her head. âPiper, are all you teachers this fond of guilt-tripping?â
âWe Fae prefer to think of it more as, âpolitely reminding you of the consequences your actions can have on others,ââ Penny chimed in, before she and Bee chuckled.
Weiss scowled, unamused.
âAnyway, you should probably be getting to class now, and meeting your teacher for today,â Bee said. âMost of them tend to be extremely lenient on the first day, but others are pretty strict about punctuality.â
Weiss nodded. âDo you happen to know anything about who they are?â
Bee shrugged. âIâm sorry, I was too busy with the begging and looking for recruits for the class in the first place. I do know that theyâre going to be a representative of Primal Wenua, but thereâs several of them that could fit the bill.
âNow if youâll excuse me, I really need to go, too.â
âDonât let us keep you, Bee,â Weiss said. âThanks for all the help.â
âAny time!â she said, before she hurried on over to a nearby âskyway,â launched herself up into the air via a sudden gust of wind.
âYou ready to go, sis?â Weiss asked.
âOf course,â Winter said, smiling before she held her hand out over the basin. âEveryone out of the water!â she said.
There was disgruntled burbling and bubbling coming up from beneath the surface, before five of the six soul stones shot out of the water, arcing into Winterâs palm. She glared at the sixth. âYou donât get special treatment because youâre my main summon, Idun.â
Splash!
Idun joined the others, Winter smiled as she picked her up and slotted her back into her belt. âGood girl.â
With Penny having already calculated the most efficient route, the Schnee sisters followed her to their destination.
Their class was being held at the ground level, at a tent city set up at a long, flat, open field that Penny explained was for a Fae sport, âHuracan.â Other classes, work, and training sessions had already clearly begun, the sounds of shouting, exercising, casting, fighting, chanting, and swearing flooding the air, the Schnees and Penny having to maneuver very carefully through the too thin walkways allotted between tents and sectioned-off areas.
If it was any small comfort, the numerous shields put up everywhere were doing a damn fine job at keeping any potential disasters and mishaps contained.
Boom!
Weiss winced as pieces of a rock target smashed and disintegrated on the translucent barrier just beside her.
<Sorry!> called the air weaver whoâd blasted it to pieces.
Weiss shook her head, and they turned a corner down a line of tents.
Fwoosh!
Winter instinctively pulled Weiss to her chest and wrapped her arms around her as a giant jet of fire erupted not inches away from them, the flames licking and raging violently, fighting against a flashing barrier.
Idun flew off from her belt, âfurâ bristling and magic lines roiling as she eyed the flames.
<Weâve got it under control, itâs fine!> a fire weaver yelled. <Just keep going!>
Winter and Weiss looked unconvinced, they carefully inched forward, Idun reluctantly jumping back onto Winterâs belt.
WHAM!
The sisters and Penny all jumped as a massive, bulky weaver slammed into the side of a shield, all his limbs splayed out, his face squished up against the enchanted wall as if it were made of glass. He peeled off of it, and collapsed onto a heap on the ground below.
<Are you alright, Weaver?> Winter asked.
He raised a claw, and made a thumbs up. <Mmm aâright!> he said as he picked himself up, and walked back to his fellows
Winter shook her head as they started walking again. âPiper, itâs like Iâm right back in the Applied Sciences department at R&D...â she muttered.
âWhat was it like down there, anyway?â Weiss asked.
Winter sighed, and said, âLetâs just say the Queensguardâs emphasis on âyou only need to be functional, talented, and capable of taking ordersâ was never more obvious than it was down there...â
Eventually, they made it to the opposite end of the field, where most of the space had been converted into a running track, exercise equipment and machines spread out, with a handful of dueling pits in the center, most of them small enough only for 2-3 Fae to fight comfortably. Already, almost all of them were in use, weavers heaving and puffing, sweat pouring down their bodies as the lines of magic on their skin gradually pulsed harder and brighter.
<Heh, about time you three got here...> said a male Fae as he walked up to them.
He was a gazelle Fae, looking to be in his mid-twenties, neatly cut and dramatically shortened horns on his head, what little hair he had tied in a single braid that ran down the back of his head, a pleasant smile on his face and the squint of his eyes so pronounced it was almost like they were constantly closed.
<My name is Rokuro Tygan, one of Primal Wenuaâs personal students!> he said opening his arms out wide in welcome, before offering them to Weiss and Winter both. <No need for introductions from either of you, we all know who the both of you areâhard not to, really.>
<It is a pleasure to meet you, Weaver, thank you for taking me under your tutelage,> Weiss said politely, before they each took a hand and shook.
His grip was incredibly strong and firm, the muscles of his bare, lean, and chiseled arms already tightening from just that motion alone. Weiss quietly wondered how the bejeweled metal bands running up from his wrist onward didnât snap or seem to bend.
<And I have to thank you, for the honour of training the Keeperâs Mate, and her kin, at that,> Â Tygan said as he took his hands back, and clasped them. <Come, come, weâve all just been waiting for you before we startâand before you get any ideas, this is the first and last special privilege any of us will be affording you for your status.>
<Thatâs just fine with us, Weaver Tygan,> Weiss said.
Tygan lead them to one of the few tents in the area, where Sayuri and seven other weavers were sitting around on the benches, tree branches, and rocks, waiting. They all seemed to be teenagers, just entering puberty, or already looking like young adults whoâd clearly been through some shit. Temperaments ranged from meek and nervous, tensed up and warily eyeing the others, to bold and restless, clearly itching for the fighting to start already, or debating starting something themselves.
About the only thing that seemed to unite them all was that all of their gear had been clearly modified for combat, reinforced with armour plating; had slings, belts, and packs for extra weapons and/or ammo; or even decorated with the remains of their past kills, bones especially.
Weiss and Winter found a free spot together, Penny readied herself for a live translation as Tygan stepped up in front of all of them. He scanned the faces in front of him, took in a deep breath, and calmly said, <I will be completely honest: I really want to see all of your faces gone from this class as soon as possible.>
Many in the class clearly did not appreciate that, and didnât hesitate to make it known, through scowls, disappointed sighs, and the odd minor spell thrown at him. Tygan stood in the center of it all, casually dodging or blowing away any projectiles, still smiling.
<This is because as long as youâre in this class, there is something keeping you from regular training with the rest of your peers; working on your apprenticeship to graduate to Adept level; or gaining the much more valuable experience and education that only being on the field, or working an actual job can give you, where the failures for consequences are much higher than a simple failing mark, and your instructor telling you to try and do better next time.
<In short: the longer youâre here, the more precious time youâre taking away from better things.>
<Then why donât you just get to the fucking point already?!> a gorilla Fae shouted from somewhere in the front.
Still smiling, Tygan casually held out his finger; electricity arced from the tip, striking the gorilla Fae and him alone.
<OW! SON OF A BITCH!>
Tygan ignored him and continued, <My job is simple: I will teach you all how to fight, and fight well.
<I will not be encouraging you to read up on the philosophy of elemental weaving, write essays and give speeches, and spend long hours in meditation, pondering on the nature of magic and the realm. I will not be testing you on how well you can remember past events, significant weavers and their accomplishments, understand how they led to certain milestones, or the present state of magical theory. I will not be tasking you with internships, and forcing you to contribute your talents and powers to certain ongoing public projects.
<Your job is equally as simple: hit me with your magic.
<Specifically, you will have to do it within five minutes, in a fair duel 1-1, or however many of you you think youâll need, successfully hit me once with any spell, or magically charged technique. This can be anything from something that knocks me out completely and leaves me absolutely devastated, to a drop of water hitting my cheek.
<Basically, so long as there is clear, undeniable evidence that you have successfully struck me, you will pass, and are free to return to regular training or whatever else you please>
The same gorilla Fae from earlier snorted. <Shit, thatâs all? Youâre not fucking with us?>
Tygan nodded. <Yes, that is all. Do you wish to tryâGoro Aneyama, is it?>
<Yeah, and thatâs my name, Teach,> Goro said, getting up from his seat and walking up to Tygan. <Not that youâre gonna need to remember it, âcause Iâm gonna be out of here soon enough.>
<Are you certain about this, Aneyama?> Tygan asked calmly.
<Did I fucking stutter?!> Goro snapped, throwing his bulky arms out.
Tygan nodded. <Very well then. Mender Polendina, if you will please bear witness and officiate, and if someone else would please help set up our duel, that would be much appreciated.>
Penny and two other weavers came up to draw a circle and barrier just outside of the tent, Tygan and Goro inside of it.
âThis probably isnât going to end well for him, isnât it?â Weiss asked.
âDefinitely not!â Winter said, before she smiled. âIf itâs anything like Queensguard screening, though, itâs going to be extremely entertaining, at the least...â
The rest of the class seemed to agree, excited chatter and what sounded like talk about bets already starting, especially among those who knew either Goro or Tygan already. Weiss looked around and shook her head, declining when someone asked if she wanted to throw some money in the growing pot.
The barrier went up, at the barest minimum regulation would allow for two combatants. There was barely any place to move around in, close quarters engagement all but inevitable, little to no time to dodge any projectiles thrown, and absolutely no space to outrun all but the smallest of explosions or area-of-effect spells.
The two combatants put their masks on, pulled their hoods up, and had their respective spotters search and remove any accessories or weapons that werenât allowed, or would prove a hindrance. As they hauled out of the barrier, Weiss and Winter looked at the combatants in turn:
Tygan, lean but muscular, his âcoatâ really more just a loose hooded vest, and equally loose pants. There were metallic threads and intricate designs on the fabric, and his rope belt had pulsing, enchanted fibers woven into it, but otherwise, there wasnât much that would protect him from a direct hit, physical or magical.
Goro, stocky, his muscles thick and bulging, his coat covering his whole body, and adorned with numerous armour plates on non-flexible sections, most prominently his breastplate. Silvery lines covered the ceramic-like material, repaired cracks from battles and incidents long ago.
<Last chance if you want to back out, Aneyama!> Tygan called out, loud enough for all to hear. <No shame in passing on a fight when you know thereâs nothing worth fighting for.>
<Oh, shut up, and letâs do the stupid ritual!> Goro yelled, punching his palm.
Unfazed, Tygan shrugged, and said, <Alright!>
Penny lead the pre-duel rites and projected a timer from her tail: 5:00. The audience started to cheer and howl as the two fighters got into their stances: Goro roared and slammed a foot on the ground as he threw his arms out, hands and the blood red âeyesâ of his mask exploding in flames; and Tygan calmly spread his hooves apart, moved his open palms up to his chest.
One of the spotters blew the dueling horn, and Goro figuratively and literally exploded into action.
Fwoosh! Fwoosh!
He swung his arms wide through the air, throwing out five fireballs each time!
Tygan barely moved his hands, every single one of the projectiles suddenly violently veering off-course, exploding harmlessly on the barrier.
Goro roared as he charged Tygan with his fists swinging, flames raging from his knuckles to his shoulders, fiery explosions filling the barrier as he punched, lunged, smashed, and grappled with him. Tygan dodged and weaved around each and every single strike, ducking and bending his body at dramatic angles and elaborate poses, seemingly disappearing into thin air as he escaped Goroâs grasp and circled around and behind him.
<Hahaha! Teach is just straight fucking with him!> one student cried.
<Go Goro!> another one cried mockingly. <Flail harder, youâll get him eventually!>
Goro howled in rage, exploding into white-hot flames; he cocked his arm, a brilliant flash erupting from his fist as he threw a flaming haymaker at Tygan!
Boom.
The students shielded their eyes, or cried out as they were temporarily blinded. A section of the barrier broke, thick white smoke pouring out of the breach before it quickly healed. Inside, Goro waved an arm in front of him as he shook his punching hand, his whole body glowing with faint red, magical residue.
The air suddenly cleared, the blinding smoke exploding out from the top of the barrier like a volcano; at its base, Tygan, calmly whisking his glowing hands up in turn, completely, absolutely untouched.
Goro stared at him, slack-jawed, before he glanced at the timer:
0:37
He turned back to Tygan, looking straight at him with his âsmilingâ mask, his arms spread wide as he made a âCome at meâ gesture with his palms.
Goro roared, pounding his fists on his chest, the lines of red magic all over his body glowing painfully bright, fire shooting out from the silver seams in his armour, his whole figure enveloped in brilliant white flames.
He jumped up and raised his fists, slammed them both into the ground and sent a giant wall of fire and molten earth exploding out around him!
Tygan swept his foot in front of him, the burning shockwave blown away just before it reached him, the molten rocks flying to the side and breaking harmlessly on the shield. Then, he threw his glowing arms out, a ball of yellow, crackling magic spreading out around him, going past Goro, and sticking to the edges of the barrier, the inside now tinted in Tyganâs topaz yellow magic.
Goro snarled as he pulled himself out of the new crater in the ground, angrily pounding his fists on the dirt, before he suddenly gasped, clutched at his neck. His flames died out quickly as they burned through what little oxygen was left in the bubble, the red lines of mana all over his body rapidly faded. He frantically raised a violently trembling hand, the tip of his finger glowing in ever intenser red...
Pew!
Tygan didnât even need to move as the feeble laser Goro shot at him missed completely.
The timer hit 0:00, one of the spotters blew the horn. The arena was filled with a loud, rushing sound as Tygan dispelled his magic completely, Goro gasped, coughed, and violently trembled, curling up into a ball as he hyperventilated.
Tygan stepped out of the dirt circle and left Goro to the spotters and Penny, taking his mask off to reveal the same pleasant expression as always. <Does anyone else want to try today?> he asked, holding his arms out. <You get a single chance every session, whenever you please!>
No one took him up on it.
<No takers?> Tygan shrugged, before casually thumbing behind him to the track. <Then all of you, except the spotters, Polendina, and Aneyama on the track, now, please.>
Note: A Vacuum Field is rarely, if ever used in real combat situations, as it can be easily escaped if used without the help of other physical/magical barriers, and the spell itself requires constant, intensely focused channeling by an air weaver to prevent new air coming in, much more for the time it would take for all the oxygen levels to deplete so dramatically that living beings aside from the weaver start to suffocate.
Unless they were being completely protected or unseen, the channeling can be disrupted very easily, and the spell will fail nigh instantly.
Air weavers are able to control their breathing extensively, to very dramatic effect at higher levels of skill. This is what allows them to completely hold their breath without ill-effects for stealth, survive poisoning by gas if they are unable to simply vent it or sustain a field of clean air around them, or stuff extremely, ill-advisedly large portions/servings of food in their mouths in one go.
Bee is still at Initiate level, but at the cusp of graduating to Adept, likely within the next few years after continued apprenticeship under Aeilana. The rest of the class still have a decade or so to go, excluding Weiss and Winter who are exceptional cases.
Tygan is already at Adept level, and remains under Primal Wenua as a post-graduate, assistant teacher. He is 25, and currently has no solid plans for trying to qualify for Masterâs Rites.
There is no set minimum age for graduating to Adept, but the average age is 20, standard deviation of 3 or so years.
Only a very small percentage of Weavers ever graduate to the level of Master. Alongside having exceptional skill that far exceeds your peers', you need to have proved that you can apply said powers to the betterment of Fae society in a significant manner, and earn an endorsement from an unbiased source.
This can involve training the newer generations of weavers and pass on your expertise (which can take decades of work, but is considered one of the two surest paths), but it can also be earned through exceptional combat records on the field or even just in the Pits (controversial and easily contested, but relatively faster and easier); through inventions, innovations, and advances in magitech and/or arcane theory (the second surest); outstanding service during a time of crisis (heavily reliant on luck and preparation); or a combination of any of the above.
The endorsement generally comes from a current, retired, or only recently deceased (within five years from their officially recorded date of death) Master Weaver, but non-weaver Fae of sufficiently high standing and influence in the society can endorse someone for the Masterâs Rites all the same. In either case, however, there is still a screening board made of Adepts, Masters, and chosen individuals from the other Orders, though an endorsement from a Master Weaver tends to go much smoother.
The actual Rites tend to be a heavily guarded secret, mostly known only to Masterâs, the most senior Chroniclers, and the Council, though there are allegedly several variations and ancient temples used for the ritual all over the Valley and the Cradle. There is no stigma to having failed a Masterâs Rite, and it is generally considered an honorable distinction all on its own.
Once the title is earned, a Weaver can never be stripped of it, regardless of what they do afterward. The folks who endorsed them are rarely, if ever blamed or stigmatized if a weaverâs career tanks, or they go Rogue after achieving Master status.
As far as everyoneâs concerned, as soon as you begin the Rites proper, everything you do from then on is entirely your responsibility, and no one elseâs. Â
Glynda earned the privilege to go through her Rite through her teaching work, and her experience with the Watchers, as a field soldier and as an administrator/officer. Aeilanaâs was through a lifetime of Watcher service as both a warrior and trainer, along with several successful high risk missions/expeditions over the years, generally during the Flood.

The Alphabet Game
Lilian Moros. Kiara Scuro. Mercenary AU.
Alexa never thought she would be working for the government again.
Not since Eisman had been murdered. Not since his office had gone up in flames. Not since his encrypted records of his operatives had been lost.
SPSRA had no idea who A was. They knew who Alexa Myers was. And Lilian Moros. And Eliza Davis. And several other identities she worked under, since she no longer worked as A.
And unlike the last government operative, Morpheus genuinely thought they could help her.
So sheâd signed her name on the dotted line and let herself down the rabbit hole of teamwork.
âWeâre looking for a powered mercenary.â Morpheus handed them dossiers and the way her teammates processed the information said a lot about them.
Skye devoured it. Memorized details and looked for patterns in the scant details they had. Viewed it as coding waiting to be cracked.
Ren analyzed it. Skipped over the details about the suspect â which was as thin as the dossier in their hands â and focused on the details of the murder. She was formulating a plan to counter another attack. To protect the target.
And Ryan focused on the victim.
âWeâre the team selected to find Beauford Buttonâs killer?â he asked sharply.
The technopathâs eyes widened. âCouncilman Button was killed? We were just told he passed â I mean, the dude was ancient, so itâs not a surprise.â
âThere were rumors, among the veterans,â Ryan informed her. âHe may have been ancient, but he was still hale and hearty.â
âAnd an ass,â Lilian murmured, recalling the few times sheâd interacted with the councilman. Who was biased against both women and telepaths and made no effort to hide it.
âBut the Council trusts us to find his killer?â Ren interrupted, a tingle of pride radiating from her.
âNo, thatâs not our objective,â Morpheus clarified as he sat behind his desk. âSPSRA does not want to incite a panic and lead the heroes to believe they are being targeted, but they have suspicions that other members of the Council are at risk. So youâre a protection detail.â
âFor who?â
âViolet insisted on using our team and itâs not without itâs advantages â We suspect the mercenary is a teleporter or invisible,â the redhead informed them.
âThey finally admit a telepath has a use,â Lily said sardonically.
âViolet has always supported my judgment, Lilian.â
âWhen do we start?â Ren questioned, eager to be doing something other than just crowd control.
~*~
Lilian frowned.
SPSRA was wrong about the suspect. Teleporters had a certain ⊠mental wavelength that reached their destination before they did. Mind before body. A thought that grew louder until it was just as present as their body.
âGreen,â she snapped, tense and stiff. The word sent a radiant green globe around the table they were seated at, cards forgotten in the new prickling feeling of a threat.
Eyes were on her. Viridianâs and Violet-Vivianâs and someone elseâs.
Calculating. Correcting. Deciding how best to kill a 70-year-old woman when there were complications they hadnât anticipated.
They were familiar.
The process. The voice. Everything tripped alarm bells in her memory.
Viridian scanned the room, his eyes used to seeing past the green glowing barriers.
There was a shift as she â the intruder. A woman. Smooth. Deadly. â found a weakness.
âTab-â Lilian started as she knocked Violet away from the table and the pool of darkness that grew and stretched toward the councilwoman.
âStop.â
The telepath froze instantaneously, Violetâs command echoing in her mind. Her body felt numb. As if she didnât occupy it anymore.
StopStopStopStopStopStopStop â
A thought stuck on loop.
The councilwoman was out of practice. Her suggestion was rusty, unable to target one person so all were affected. Skye. Ren. Ryan. Intruder. And Lilian.
Violetâs brow furrowed as she focused.
Skye. Ren. Ryan. Lilian. Move. Â
âIâm fine,â the shapeshifer assured them over the comms, prowling around the outside Violetâs townhouse. âTech?â
âAll good,â the teenager supplied from the van, watching the security feeds.
âDitto,â Ryan answered as the green pulsated and expanded into the corner. âItâs a shadow walker, Meta.â
âReader?â Ren questioned.
Violetâs sharp gaze fell upon the immobilized telepath.
StopStopStopStop -
Lilian. Move.
StopStopStopStop â
âItâs because of the shadow walker. Reader canât not hear the command,â Violet supplied, her lips tight. âIâm out of practice. If I put too much power behind it, I risk freeing both of them.â
âDo something then, anything to get Reader out,â Ryan pushed.
Identify yourself.
âLilian Moros.â
âK.â
The syllable was husky. Sharp.
K
AKA
CIA
Eisman
A
Alexa
K. Surrender.
Lilian. Move.
Her heart raced as she tensed, searching for K. For confirmation.
For steel grey eyes and blonde locks.
For Kiara.
The teen-turned-woman (spy-turned-killer) stepped out of the shadows and was practically a shadow herself. No skin showed beneath the hood or the suit or the full-face mask that covered her (once? still? golden hair) and the dark goggles that hid her stormy-grey eyes.
Her hands were in front of her as the green shield vanished.
âMeta, we need a collar,â Ryan urged. âHurry.â
âIâm coming,â the shapeshifter confirmed. They could hear Skye and Ren scramble through the equipment to find the restraints.
Lilian could feel the intruder fight the command. Trying to override it. K-Kiara had always been stubborn. Determined to escape Eisman. To get out.
The telepath knew the instant it broke. When Ryan was reaching out to circle her wrist with a metal bracelet.
âViridian, move!â Lilian warned too late.
Ryan recoiled as the blonde struck his throat and then fled into the darkness before Violet could form a thought.
Eismanâs weapons never surrendered. Or they wouldnât have survived.
