All I wanted to do was read some love letters between Vita Sackville-West (left) and Violet Trefusis née Keppel (right) and then I went into a rabbit hole of all the connections between the British aristocracy. The family tree is a circle.

One of Vita’s many suitors married Mary, Princess Royal, daughter of George V & Mary Teck. (left)

Violet’s mother Alicia Keppel (right) was a descendant of Charles II. She was also a longtime mistress of King Edward VII.

And is also the great grandmother of Camilla through her other daughter Sonia, whose daughter Rosalind is Camilla’s mother.

David, Duke of Windsor with his longtime friend Violet Keppel in the late 1950s. Violet was the daughter of Alice Keppel, mistress of King Edward VII, and she and David met as children in his grandfather’s court. She was also the great-aunt of Queen Camilla.

Violet was the daughter of Alice Keppel, famously the longtime mistress of Edward VII, also making her the great-aunt of Camilla Parker-Bowles. She is most well-known for her affair with childhood friend and fellow writer Vita Sackville-West, later the lover of Virginia Woolf.

Violet Keppel
